Power Corrupts The Ring
After reading the novel, The Fellowship of the Ring, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, one message that
J.R.R. Tolkien has shown to the readers throughout the novel is that, power corrupts all who seek it. I
found that throughout the novel, the audience is shown what power can do to a person. How it turns
their greed for more power, into a need for their very existence. It then finally turns them into a
monster. If they don t look like a monster from the outside, then most definitely they will be a monster
on the inside. Like Gollum, a number of characters in the book want to use the ring for their own
selfish purposes. Boromir thinks he can use it to vanquish the Dark Lord and restore peace to Middle
earth. Gollum wants to keep it to himself, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It takes immense willpower to overcome temptation, especially the temptation of power. The readers
are also shown that regardless of the wearer s initial intentions, good or evil, the Ring s power always
corrupts turning the wearer evil. Even being in the possession of the Ring is shown to be dangerous
like how it becomes heavier on the chain around Frodo s neck, coaxing him to put it on. Gollum is
also a victim of the ring because he too was once a Hobbit named Sméagol. He killed his friend
Déagol for the Ring and then over time became a wretched, crouching, frog like creature who thinks
only of his desire to keep the Ring for himself. Also Boromir, (who is a part of the Fellowship),
progressively becomes corrupted by being in the proximity of the Ring. He wants to use its power to
destroy Sauron rather than destroy the Ring itself, As Gandalf tells Boromir We cannot use the Ruling
Ring. That we now know too well. It belongs to Sauron and was made by him alone, and is altogether
evil. Its strength, Boromir, is too great for anyone to wield at will, save only those who have already a
great power of their own. But for them it holds an even deadlier power. The very desire of it corrupts
the heart. Gandalf is right because ultimately, the Ring leads Boromir to desire it for himself. I believe
that Tolkien wants the readers to

Elon University Experience
College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University was not even a
thought in the back of my brain. It s funny how things work out in the end. From the very beginning of
college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything I was looking
for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that s
what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that
university out of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in order of next
choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University, Wingate University, and Campbell
University. I was also awarded scholarships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more scholarships, 2 of which
were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with encouragement from my family, I figured it was
worth the shot, although, I still had no intention of attending Campbell. On the day of the interview, I
was given a tour of the campus, had the opportunity to meet many friendly staff, and was informed of
all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that the only way I would go to
Campbell was if I was awarded an additional scholarship. When I didn t receive the scholarship, I was
still set on Wofford. It wasn t until I spent the weekend at Wofford that I began to have doubts about
attending there. A few days before the enrollment deposit deadline of May 1, I was faced with the
decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I believed I was going to for the past several months or
the school I never took a glance at. After evaluating my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be
the place for me. I found that Campbell had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and
live in a Christian community. I ve already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so many
campus ministry groups and worships to attend, something that I could not

A Dream Without My Dream
Everyone dreams at some point in their life. The world is what it is today because of a certain Martin
Luther King Jr announcing his dream to the world. Imagine what the world would be like if no one
had any dreams or ambitions. We wouldn t have any of the great inventions that are present today.
There would be no electricity, no telephone, no vaccinations, no transport! The whole of the United
States probably wouldn t have been discovered if it wasn t Christopher Columbus dream to find India,
and we d probably all be running about wearing loin clothes in the dark like shown in the Flintstones!
That is, if the human race didn t end up dying out altogether. But, what can I say? People had dreams ,
and here I am, Dan Howell, 17 years old, up at 4 o clock in the morning staring out my window
daydreaming. Although chances are that I m not really day dreaming if it s 4 in the morning right? Ok,
so I guess night dreaming but you know, without the sleeping.
A smile grew across the brown haired boy s face as the thought of his black haired best friend popped
into his head. They had known eachother since they were about 3 when Phil s family moved in across
the street from Dan s and had been best friends ever since.
He had been thinking of him all night. As he did pretty much every second of the day since they were
about, oh let s say 10? He hadn t even realised that he had feelings for Phil at that point, but it didn t
stop him from always wanting to be with him and gushing

Hodgkin Lymphoma Research Paper
The topic I decided to do my paper on is Hodgkin s Lymphoma in this paper I will talk about what
Hodgkin s Lymphoma is different kinds of Hodgkin s Lymphoma, treatment, statistics, and the
survival rate. I will also talk about the staging system, risk factors, how it can be found early, if it can
be prevented, what causes the disease, symptoms and signs of the disease, and how it is diagnosed and
treated.
Hodgkin s Lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in the lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell,
which is a part of the immune system. The cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of
control. Cells in almost any part of the body can become cancerous. There are two kinds of Hodgkin s

The Importance Of Patient Privacy And Confidentiality
Patient privacy and confidentiality is one of the most important foundations when establishing a nurse
client relationship. When providing care, it is the licensed practical nurses ethical, and legal
responsibility to uphold a clients privacy and confidentiality. Ethically, nurses are also obligated to
advocate for their patients, provide safety, establish a trusting nurse client relationship, and protect
client information. In relations to the CLPBC Professional Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical
Nurses as well as the Entry to Practice Competencies for Licensed Practical Nurses; this passage
overviews how nurses maintain and promote the privacy and confidentiality of clients and client
information, the actions to take when confidentiality is breached, and how nurses ensure that all
information is collected, used, and disclosed on pertinent information. Understanding the difference
between privacy and confidentiality is the first step for providing ethical, safe, compassionate, and
competent care. Privacy entails the clients individual right to restrict any information from being
disclosed. People tend to only share information to health care providers when they feel safe, and in
control. Confidentiality, is the health care providers responsibility to keep enclosed, and private.
Nurses should only share patient information to direct sources and when it is to be used for pertinent
data. Providing a private and confidential environment will create a trusting

Introduction
Safety and security is vital, especially for housekeeping and engineering department in hospitality
industry, because both departments comprise working physically and use of equipment which would
increase the risk of accident and injury. In hospitality operation, safety refers to the actual conditions
in a work environment. Security refers to the prevention of theft, fire and other emergencies. (Aleta
A.Nitschke, William D.frye, 2008)
Many work related accidents can lead to loss of work force contribution, hence if any employee
injured on the job may require medical care which can be far reaching and expensive. According to
Aleta A.Nitschke and William D. frye, the risky work setting cannot be cost effective from medical,
legal, and productivity perspectives. (Aleta A.Nitschke, William D.frye, 2008)

The Cardiac Cycle Is Vital For Proper Cardiovascular...
Task 1b
The Cardiac Cycle
The cardiac cycle is vital for proper cardiovascular system function. The cardiovascular system
transports nutrients and waste to and from the cells of the body the heart (and subsequently the cardiac
cycle) provides the power to this system.
The cardiac cycle is the sequence of steps that are carried out when the heart beats. There are two
main phases of the cardiac cycle; the diastolic phase and the systole phase. The diastole phase causes
the heart to fill with blood and the systole phase moves the blood from the heart to the arteries. One
cardiac cycle is completed when the heart fills with blood and then is pumped back out of the heart.
The two main phases can be broken down into four steps.
Key Definitions
Atria: The heart is divided into four chambers that are connected by heart valves, the upper two heart
chambers are called atria.
Ventricles: The heart is divided into four chambers that are connected by heart valves, the lower two
chambers of the heart are called ventricles.
Atrioventricular valves: a valve between an atrium and ventricle of the heart.
Vena cava: the two largest veins in the body, carry de oxygenated blood from various regions of the
body to the right atrium of the heart.
SA node: The sinoatrial node is a section of nodal tissue located in the upper wall of the right atrium.

General Sheridan
After the invasion of Normandy, France by the Allies in World War II, the Allies pushed the German
Army back towards Germany. For the Allies, the war looked to conclude by Christmas of that year,
1944, and to do so required a major push across Europe to Berlin. Operation Market Garden would the
largest airborne battle during the war and would be led under Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery
who was in command of the 21st Army Group. What was thought to be the final push into Berlin,
Germany by the Allies proved to be wrong during Operation Market Garden. The Allies ultimately
lost the battle and were forced to delay movement into Germany. The Battle of Arnhem was the most
famous battle during Operation Market Garden, known as a bridge too far , where the British 1st
Airborne Division, led by Major General R.E. Urquhart, and the Polish 1st Independent Parachute
Brigade were dropped in the Netherlands to secure the key bridges at Arnhem. Ultimately the mission
failed for the British due to lack of resupply and reinforcements from the British XXX Corps on the
ground. MG Urquhart did not demonstrate the steps in mission command, understand, visualize, lead
and direct during the Battle of Arnhem, which also contributed to losing the battle. Operation Market
Garden involved two plans by the Allies; Operation Market was the airborne plan and Operation
Garden was the ground plan. The Allied airborne units of the 101st Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne
Division, and 1st

The natural progression for BBE schools is to develop students that advocate for their own learning.
The only way to accomplish this goal is to develop a system that encourages student voice, utilizes

Charlie Brown Satire
I know that many people around the world know the infamous Peanuts gang and of course the lead
character, Charlie Brown. The Peanuts was an American comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz in
the 1950 s. Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown! This is the title of one of many in a film series based
of his comics. The film was released in 1977 and still has relevance today. The Peanuts not only have
incredible satirical wit and humor, but are just great stories for the heart filled with stories of a young
boy and his dog.
Charlie Brown may be good for a laugh, but also for learning life lessons. I have always enjoyed
Charlie Brown growing up and loved reading the comic strips on Sunday mornings. Let s see if we

Banding together in hard times could mean the difference between survival and starvation.

The Peanuts gang could have easily accepted defeat after all they went through. Instead they paddled
on. They saw victory in their sight and went for it full steam ahead.
You cannot just say I can t take anymore. You have to fight on. The champ is the one that can throw

The boys take charge in leading the raft when the race is nearly over. On more than one occasion, they
expected Charlie Brown to lead or save them. Instead of saying thanks, they generally mocked or
criticized him when things went wrong even when he tried his best.
There is a time and place for criticism. You should criticize softly and praise loudly. At the very least,

Taking a Look at the Parachute
The parachute is an invention that many people around the world use today. It can be used for
skydiving, military use and for safety on air planes. The idea came from the one and only Leonardo
Da Vinci about the1480 s. He came up with the idea on paper. He actually never built the idea. But he
is noted for the first person to come up with the idea of the parachute. Some people say during ancient
Chinese age; they came up with the idea. It is written in history that Leonardo Da Vinci made a sketch
of the invention with this description; If a man have a tent made of linen of which the apertures
(openings) have all been stopped up, and it be twelve braccia (about 23 feet) across and twelve in
depth, he will be able to throw himself down form any great height without suffering any injury. The
notion remained unmade until Sebastien Lenormand in 1783 walked off the top of the Montpellier
observatory then, a few seconds later, landed on the ground intact. It is said that he came up with the
word parachute. He crossed the French prefix paracete. Meaning to protect against, and chute. The
French word for fall; it all together it meant to describe the devise s purpose. The next person to make
an impact was a man named André Jacques Garnerin. He was known for taking High altitudes from a
hydrogen balloon. His wife Jeanne Genevieve; became the first female to parachute. Unfortunately in
1823 he died in a balloon accident while preparing to test a new parachute. Then it was until

Learning From Traditional Classroom And Learning
I have experience in both learning from the traditional classroom and learning from the online setting.
I can easily identify the differences between these two types of learning environments. The two main
differences can be divided by two categories which are flexibility and class discussions (Bethel
University, n.d.)
?There is far less flexibility in a traditional classroom (Bethel University, n.d.). As a formal student of
a traditional classroom learning environment, I had to physically drive to the college, carry my
textbooks everywhere, and attend class at a designated day and time each week. Since I didn t have
any children, I didn t have to be concerned with finding a babysitter (Bethel University, n.d.). At the
end of each school day, I had to pay for parking as I exited the campus parking garage. Online
learning can be conducted anytime and anywhere that has internet connection. The greater flexibility
involved with online learning can cause a lot of stress to a student. It would be easy for a student to
forget the weekly deadlines and the upcoming schedules (Bethel, University, n.d.). Students can suffer
from a perceived lack of guidance, may experience isolation, and will likely have technology issues
from time to time. (Bethel University, n.d., p. 7). In an online class discussion, words can be thought
of carefully and edited several times before it is posted permanently unlike the traditional classroom
which can t be edited after it has

The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger 1947,
It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in society: the one is utility
and the other is culture (King, 1947).
This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and
why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia
today.
Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase being
associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent of the
modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist
ideas. Secondly, post World War II expansion into the late 1970 s was influenced by social democratic
beliefs. Finally, the increased marketisation of education which has been influenced by neoliberalism
since the 1980 s (Krieken, 2013, p. 149).
In Australia, post World War II the federal government began to take an increasing role over the states
in education, as states were finding it increasingly difficult to fund higher education due in part to the
baby boom post World War II and the requirement for more university trained teachers and by the late
1950 s. Furthermore, politically, grouwing desire among politicians to enable more potential students
to enroll in higher education(Krieken, 2013, p. 150).
Moving forward in time, a series of government

A History Of The English Church And People
When Bede was writing A History of the English Church and People the conflicts between Christians
and pagans were still not long a ago and Christianity was not yet as dominant in England as it would
be in the future. Therefore, the memories of these conflicts were still fresh within some people s minds
and Bede made sure to record it. Bede wrote the history of past events of Christianity s struggles, the
great men that protected it and enforced it. He wrote so that Christians would have an example on how
to act in order to achieve greatness, how to avoid sin and how to strengthen Christianity and the
Church itself in England. Bede thought that greatness is achieved only in one way and that was being
a good, devout Christian. He used the history of King Oswald s life as an example of what it meant to
be great and what are the rewards for achieving greatness. He wished everyone who read his history to
follow in Oswald s footsteps as he continuously mention in his written work history records good
things of good men, the thoughtful hearer is encouraged to imitate what is good . He gives many
examples of Oswald s deeds as a devout Christian, but his number one achievement was bringing the
faith to the lands of Bernicia. He came to Bernicia to fight heathen kings while at the same time
showing a great trust in God, as before the battle he set up a holy cross and made everyone in his army
pray before upcoming battles. it seems that there was no evidence of the

Family Matters Character Analysis
When individuals face obstacles in life, many turn towards love as a way to motivate themselves to
get through the event. As former American President, John Quincy Adams, said, Courage and
perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into
air, ( John Quincy Adams ). Through the hardships that characters in the novel Family Matters, written
by Rohinton Mistry experience, it is evident that individuals gain motivation with the help of love in
order to remain resilient. Individuals stay motivated through their love for family, love for religion,
and love for passions. An individual can remain resilient through hardships due to one s love for
family. This resilience is obtained due to love for one s parents, love for one s spouse, and love for one
s siblings. First off, people hold the ability to prevail because of love for one s parents. In the novel,
this motivation is seen with Jehangir s love for his mother and father. After his grandfather, Vakeel
Nariman, who is bedridden and suffering from Parkinson s, moves into their flat at Pleasant Villa, his
parents face numerous financial difficulties. Jehangir is knowledgeable of their struggles and wants to

Advertising is a huge part of today s society and today, we are engulfed by a cosmetic world of

Flannery O Connor s Faith and A Good Man is Hard to Find
Research Essay
Dr. Jeff Conine

Flannery O Connor s Faith and A Good Man is Hard to Find
Flanner O Connor, author of A Good Man is Hard to Find , has an underlying theme within her
writing, which is Christianity. If a reader does not keep O Connor s Christian background in focus, it
will be impossible to fully interpret/understand O Connor s stories. In Flannery O Connor s writing,
she leans more towards the subjects of: the search for Jesus, the meaning of prophecy and the struggle
for redemption, per Nazaryn, A. Out of these three subjects, coming from Nazaryn, the most important
to Flannery would be the struggle for redemption and the search for Jesus, since these are the most
vital to a searching spiritual life. O Connor s character, for example, the grandmother, in A Good Man
is Hard to Find , follows her journey of a person in need of salvation and then the violence she endures
awakens her towards a spiritual need. O Connor creates a violence which leads to a personal crisis,
which then leads to someone waking up to spiritual salvation. Taking into consideration on how a
person goes through life, through trials and tribulations, he or she is bound to reach that point in their
life of reaching salvation. In A Good Man is Hard to Find , it is critical to understand that O Connor s
Christian values are embodied in the message that her characters tell

CalSTRS Defined Benefit Program is a conventional retirement plan calculated based on a formula
using the age, years of service/service credit, and final compensation. The coverage is on CalSTRS
2% at 60 (age 50 with at least 30 years of service credit; or age 55 with five years of service credit),
and on CalSTRS 2% at 62 (age 55 with at least five years of service. Teachers who are eligible for the
benefits are those who are teaching, vocational and guidance advising, curriculum development
related task, and a range of administrative responsibilities. The contributions for this program are
combinations of members, employers, and state. The benefit is paid in the form of lifetime monthly
annuity. In case of negative investment returns, employer bears the risk which made it a safer option
for the teachers. CalSTRS Cash Balance/Defined Benefit Supplemental Program is a mixture of
conventional defined benefit with additional savings for retirement based on the account balance.
Within this plan there are two programs, namely the Defined Benefit Supplemental Program for the
full time educators, and the Cash Balance Benefit for the part time educators. In contrast to the
conventional defined benefit, this program relies heavily on the investment returns hence the amount
of money paid at the time of retirement could be less than the total contribution if the investment
returns were negative. However, there

Relationship Between Elia Kazan And Arthur Miller
The claim of this essay is about the complicated relationship between Elia Kazan and Arthur Miller If
someone was asked to give information about the Red Scare they had to be truthful in the court.
Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, and Elia Kazan was a film director. Kazan made a film On the
Waterfront he wanted to combine the two recent films together. It was a story about a man and his
friend, Kazan wanted to take part in his own play as the leading role. It was one of the top rated film
of its time after watching it people could have changed their whole aspect of how they looked at the
film. Arthur Miller was born on October 17, 1915 in New York City. Arthur wrote several screenplays
and was noted for his work on The Misfits. Elia Kazan was born in Turkey on September 7, 1909 him
and his parents later moved to the United States.
In this moment no one was close to film director Kazan, he has filmed/produced 2 of Arthur s plays.
Miller came with the idea to write the play about The Crucible and he wanted Elia to help him on it.
(columbia.edu)
When Miller and Kazan started working on the film, they got really close. They even shared Marilyn
Monroe. They worked together on other plays as in The Hook and After the Fall. The Red Scars
started to repeat history again. Later on, Miller, the author of the Crucible, decided to write the play
after he heard what Kazan had to say. The relationship between Kazan and Miller was good at first.
(telegraph.co.uk)
Miller had a better connection with Marilyn then Kazan and all he thought was that Marilyn would
never be successful in her career in wanting to be an actress. Arthur Miller fell in love with Marilyn.
Monroe was actually the one to thank for the two s infamous decisions . All three of them were at a
party when Marilyn forced the two men to shake hands. After they got over their differences they were
once again inseparable. They could have continued working together in the future, but it would have
been hard for them to do so because they kept getting bashed for everything they did. Marilyn and
Arthur did everything together and they soon got married on July 29, 1956. Their relationship lasted
about five years, it says they got a divorce bc their

Idaho Swimming Research Paper
The Sanctioning of Swimming in Idaho My senior paper is a subject that has been a part of my life for
as long as I can remember. It is something that I ve loved from the very beginning all the way to the
very end. I m taking about competitive swimming. But I m going to be talking about something
different with swimming that s probably not expected, I m instead talking about getting it to be a
sanctioned sport in Idaho. See, swimming in Idaho is not considered a real sport, but instead a club,
and personally, I wanted to see swimming, the activity that I ve loved, become a legitimate sport for
future generations of kids to enjoy. This paper covers the main reasons why I wanted swimming to be
a sanctioned sport, the steps it took to get it sanctioned, and finally, actually making it a sanctioned
sport in Idaho this year. This paper begins with my own existing knowledge of swimming, followed
by questions that I wanted to find out in my research that were answered in my paper. It then gets into
my research and what I found out while conducting my senior paper. After that is ... Show more

I remember training the training was extensive and tough. It was honestly one of the hardest things
that I ve ever trained for in my life. And in my mind I really saw swimming in my mind and heart as a
true sport in this state. And as the years went on I realized that swimming started to become a more
popular sport in this state. I also realized that swimming followed a lot of the same regulations that
other sports in the state did that were already sanctioned. Such as, having equal opportunity
participation for both boys and girls. So, I knew personally what I had to do you make sure the friends
that I made on the team got what they deserved. And when I heard that they were going to make the
vote to sanction swimming this year, I knew that I had to pursue it so that the future generations of
swimmers could really enjoy swimming as a real sport as much as I had tried when I was

Research Paper On Naruto
Everyday millions of people will take at least one selfie and post it to a social media site. Half of the
time these people will be within eyesight of an animal, do you ever wonder what they think we are
doing? Just imagine, what if your dog or cat have ever wondered what it would be life to take a selfie.
Well one animal did, Naruto the monkey picked up the camera of a photographer and snapped a selfie.
This led to a big controversy, people were arguing that the selfie copyright belonged to Naruto, others
said it belonged to the photographer, and lastly people said it belonged in the public domain. Even
though it s said the photo should go in the public domain, the photographer should hold the monkey
selfie copyright because Naruto is an animal and Naruto will not benefit from owning the copyright.
The copyright to the monkey selfie should go to David Slater. Slater said that he spent about £2,000
on the trip where the incident, which got him the monkey selfie, happened. Photographers take
thousands of pictures hoping to capture one or more photos that will bring them some income. Seeing
as this photo became so famous, Slater lost income that could have came from him owning the
copyright. If Slater would have been given the copyright for the photo, he could have helped fund the

Human Experimentation Essay examples
Introduction: Throughout history there are many examples of humans conducting experiments on
other humans. Over the years human experimentation has greatly advanced the knowledge of human
physiology and psychology, leading to better treatments for ailments both physical and mental as well
as a better overall understanding of the human constitution. Despite all of the good which human
experimentation has done for the human race there have been times when experimenters have taken
human experimentation past the bounds of morality. This unethical human experimentation is most
often caused when the experimenters are, in some way, able to justify their experiments. What is

In 1939 an experiment now known as the Monster Study was conducted on 22 orphaned children by
Wendell Johnson, a very influential speech pathologist at the University of Iowa. In this experiment
the orphaned children were divided up into two separate groups. One group was given positive speech
therapy, in which they were praised for their fluency. The other group was given negative speech
therapy. They were belittled for every speech imperfection and told that they were stutterers. Many of
the normal speaking children who were subjected to the negative speech therapy experienced negative
psychological effects and some developed lasting speech impediments. The Tuskegee syphilis
experiment was an experiment conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service between 1932 and 197. In
this experiment, the investigators recruited 399 African American share croppers infected with
syphilis. Their purpose was to study the effects of the untreated disease. In 1932 the standard
treatments for syphilis were toxic and it was questionable whether or not they actually worked. The
goal, at the experiment s beginning, was to determine if a patient was better off without such toxic
treatments. The experimenters also hoped to develop effective methods of treating each stage of
syphilis. They also hoped to be able to justify treatment programs for blacks. However, by 1947
penicillin became the new and effective medical

Santiago s Journey
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, by Lao Tzu. While both of these journeys were
epic, Santiago s circular journey back home is less significant than Odysseus s linear journey home to
his wife and child. Santiago s purpose was to validate his personal legend in finding treasure. The old
woman wanted to know more about his dream. She then gave her interpretation: [Santiago] must go to
the Pyramids in Egypt. [She has] never heard of them, but, if it was a child who showed them to
[him], they exist. There [he] will find a treasure that will make [him] a rich man. (Coelho 14) So
begins his journey that takes him away from home. A shepherd who wants to travel, he seeks treasure
to support his life and livelihood. Along the way, he meets the alchemist who tells him that, before a
[Personal Legend] is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way.
(Coelho 132) The alchemist s teaching guides Santiago as he continues his journey. With each
continuing step, Santiago realizes that his true treasure is back where he started, at home. While his
journey was truly epic, and he overcome many obstacles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

circles with riddles such as, one dies of thirst just when the palm trees appeared on the horizon.

him where he fought valiantly to get to, to his home. They each obtained success, but Odysseus s

Similarities Between Harry Potter And The Prizoner Of Azkaban
An adaptation is the act or process of adapting or being adapted; an alteration or modification. Movie
adaptations are no different as they modify the story of the book. In Harry Potter and the Prizoner of
Azkaban by J.K. Rowling and the film adaptation by Alfonso Cuaron, the two stories have their own
unique interpretations. Rowling s and Cuaron s Prisoner of Azkaban are similar, however they differ,
and their main themes are exceedingly specialized. An adaptation of any kind should not be expected
to be a precise representation of the original. Though the movie is an adaptation of the book, there are
still a great deal of similarities between the two. And then the thing beneath the hood, whatever it was,
drew a long, slow, rattling breath, as though it were trying to suck some thing more than air from its
surrounding. An intense cold swept over them all (Rowling 83). In the film adaptation of the book, the
dementor enters the doorway, everything quickly freezes, and it causes Harry to pass out as the air
makes a sucking motion. This scene is important in the book and the movie, as it sets up one of the
conflicts of the story. The similarities shown throughout the movie that correlate with the book are
kept to keep the main story in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rowling s book was intentionally written to get points across. Rowling s main theme in her book The
Prisoner of Azkaban is friendship. J.K. Rowling illustrates in her novel that no matter how hard your
life becomes or what obstacles cross your path, friendship conquers all. Cuaron s film was also
constructed to express certain points. Cuaron s main point in his film adaptation of The Prizoner of
Azkaban is anger. Alfonso Cuaron illustrates in his film how when one s life is full of obstacles and
misfortunes that person can become angry due to the difficulty. Knowing this is apparent, the reader
and viewer realizes that their main points and themes are quite

Fantasy vs. Reality
Fantasy vs. Reality
Silently, my senses begin to abandon their rationale...who is to say then what is real? The world that
we live in, the reality, which we are a part of, is small and thus limited. That is why, in his infinite
capacity for potential improvement, man created fantasy. Fantasy is BIG! To a certain extent it is more
imaginative, more exciting, and more fun. Fantasy is like a lake where man throws all his ideas and
dreams, and then he dives on in from the springboard of imagination. So, jump in to the lake. Why
not? Just make sure that when you jump in to the lake you know how to get back from where you
came from. Because, no matter how big a fantasy is, to the point that it somehow changes our
perception of what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is fantasy mixing itself with reality, that in the process, it is now becoming hard to determine
whether that particular fantasy is still just a fantasy apart from reality or it is already mistaken to be
reality itself. Soft trick of sun and shadow conjures the fruits and foliates into tall towers and halls,
risen from the windy old streets. This would mean the sun playing tricks by producing shadows.
Shadows are kind of a pointer to something, pointing to what is real and yet in itself is not real, just
like the imagination. Just as the sun produces the shadow, the mind produces the imagination, wherein
both the shadow and the imagination point to something that is real but again, in themselves alone are
not real. And so, the sun playing tricks would mean conjuring or summoning the fruits and foliates,
which refer to little bits of reality and transforming them into tall towers and halls, which in turn are
pinpointing to grand and fantastical images. In other words, simple pieces of reality are then altered
into majestic landscapes thus creating a fantasy. And to enhance the image more, the tall towers and
halls are risen from the windy old streets. What do we usually find in windy old streets? We find
dilapidated and out of date houses and structures and yet the image of tall towers and halls are found
on those very streets. The very presence of tall towers and halls

  • 2. Power Corrupts The Ring After reading the novel, The Fellowship of the Ring, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, one message that J.R.R. Tolkien has shown to the readers throughout the novel is that, power corrupts all who seek it. I found that throughout the novel, the audience is shown what power can do to a person. How it turns their greed for more power, into a need for their very existence. It then finally turns them into a monster. If they don t look like a monster from the outside, then most definitely they will be a monster on the inside. Like Gollum, a number of characters in the book want to use the ring for their own selfish purposes. Boromir thinks he can use it to vanquish the Dark Lord and restore peace to Middle earth. Gollum wants to keep it to himself, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It takes immense willpower to overcome temptation, especially the temptation of power. The readers are also shown that regardless of the wearer s initial intentions, good or evil, the Ring s power always corrupts turning the wearer evil. Even being in the possession of the Ring is shown to be dangerous like how it becomes heavier on the chain around Frodo s neck, coaxing him to put it on. Gollum is also a victim of the ring because he too was once a Hobbit named Sméagol. He killed his friend Déagol for the Ring and then over time became a wretched, crouching, frog like creature who thinks only of his desire to keep the Ring for himself. Also Boromir, (who is a part of the Fellowship), progressively becomes corrupted by being in the proximity of the Ring. He wants to use its power to destroy Sauron rather than destroy the Ring itself, As Gandalf tells Boromir We cannot use the Ruling Ring. That we now know too well. It belongs to Sauron and was made by him alone, and is altogether evil. Its strength, Boromir, is too great for anyone to wield at will, save only those who have already a great power of their own. But for them it holds an even deadlier power. The very desire of it corrupts the heart. Gandalf is right because ultimately, the Ring leads Boromir to desire it for himself. I believe that Tolkien wants the readers to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Elon University Experience College applications were filled out, SATs were taken, and Campbell University was not even a thought in the back of my brain. It s funny how things work out in the end. From the very beginning of college searching, Elon University was my top choice. This university had everything I was looking for: great academic programs, study abroad opportunities, and a sense of community, at least that s what I believed. Long story short, I was deferred from Elon until the Spring 2017 semester, taking that university out of the picture. The other schools I applied to and was accepted at, in order of next choice to last choice, were Wofford College, Mars Hill University, Wingate University, and Campbell University. I was also awarded scholarships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In February, I received a letter from Campbell, inviting me to apply for more scholarships, 2 of which were full tuition. At first, I wasn t interested, but with encouragement from my family, I figured it was worth the shot, although, I still had no intention of attending Campbell. On the day of the interview, I was given a tour of the campus, had the opportunity to meet many friendly staff, and was informed of all the opportunities for students. Throughout the day, I decided that the only way I would go to Campbell was if I was awarded an additional scholarship. When I didn t receive the scholarship, I was still set on Wofford. It wasn t until I spent the weekend at Wofford that I began to have doubts about attending there. A few days before the enrollment deposit deadline of May 1, I was faced with the decision of Wofford or Campbell. The school I believed I was going to for the past several months or the school I never took a glance at. After evaluating my priorities, I decided that Campbell would be the place for me. I found that Campbell had many more opportunities for me to practice my faith and live in a Christian community. I ve already confirmed that I have and will continue to have so many campus ministry groups and worships to attend, something that I could not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Dream Without My Dream Everyone dreams at some point in their life. The world is what it is today because of a certain Martin Luther King Jr announcing his dream to the world. Imagine what the world would be like if no one had any dreams or ambitions. We wouldn t have any of the great inventions that are present today. There would be no electricity, no telephone, no vaccinations, no transport! The whole of the United States probably wouldn t have been discovered if it wasn t Christopher Columbus dream to find India, and we d probably all be running about wearing loin clothes in the dark like shown in the Flintstones! That is, if the human race didn t end up dying out altogether. But, what can I say? People had dreams , and here I am, Dan Howell, 17 years old, up at 4 o clock in the morning staring out my window daydreaming. Although chances are that I m not really day dreaming if it s 4 in the morning right? Ok, so I guess night dreaming but you know, without the sleeping. A smile grew across the brown haired boy s face as the thought of his black haired best friend popped into his head. They had known eachother since they were about 3 when Phil s family moved in across the street from Dan s and had been best friends ever since. He had been thinking of him all night. As he did pretty much every second of the day since they were about, oh let s say 10? • 10. General Sheridan After the invasion of Normandy, France by the Allies in World War II, the Allies pushed the German Army back towards Germany. For the Allies, the war looked to conclude by Christmas of that year, 1944, and to do so required a major push across Europe to Berlin. Operation Market Garden would the largest airborne battle during the war and would be led under Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery who was in command of the 21st Army Group. What was thought to be the final push into Berlin, Germany by the Allies proved to be wrong during Operation Market Garden. The Allies ultimately lost the battle and were forced to delay movement into Germany. The Battle of Arnhem was the most famous battle during Operation Market Garden, known as a bridge too far , where the British 1st Airborne Division, led by Major General R.E. Urquhart, and the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade were dropped in the Netherlands to secure the key bridges at Arnhem. Ultimately the mission failed for the British due to lack of resupply and reinforcements from the British XXX Corps on the ground. MG Urquhart did not demonstrate the steps in mission command, understand, visualize, lead and direct during the Battle of Arnhem, which also contributed to losing the battle. • 12. Charlie Brown Satire I know that many people around the world know the infamous Peanuts gang and of course the lead character, Charlie Brown. The Peanuts was an American comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz in the 1950 s. Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown! This is the title of one of many in a film series based of his comics. The film was released in 1977 and still has relevance today. The Peanuts not only have incredible satirical wit and humor, but are just great stories for the heart filled with stories of a young boy and his dog. • 13. Taking a Look at the Parachute The parachute is an invention that many people around the world use today. It can be used for skydiving, military use and for safety on air planes. The idea came from the one and only Leonardo Da Vinci about the1480 s. He came up with the idea on paper. He actually never built the idea. But he is noted for the first person to come up with the idea of the parachute. Some people say during ancient Chinese age; they came up with the idea. It is written in history that Leonardo Da Vinci made a sketch of the invention with this description; If a man have a tent made of linen of which the apertures (openings) have all been stopped up, and it be twelve braccia (about 23 feet) across and twelve in depth, he will be able to throw himself down form any great height without suffering any injury. The notion remained unmade until Sebastien Lenormand in 1783 walked off the top of the Montpellier observatory then, a few seconds later, landed on the ground intact. It is said that he came up with the word parachute. He crossed the French prefix paracete. Meaning to protect against, and chute. The French word for fall; it all together it meant to describe the devise s purpose. The next person to make an impact was a man named André Jacques Garnerin. • 14. Learning From Traditional Classroom And Learning I have experience in both learning from the traditional classroom and learning from the online setting. I can easily identify the differences between these two types of learning environments. The two main differences can be divided by two categories which are flexibility and class discussions (Bethel University, n.d.) ?There is far less flexibility in a traditional classroom (Bethel University, n.d.). As a formal student of a traditional classroom learning environment, I had to physically drive to the college, carry my textbooks everywhere, and attend class at a designated day and time each week. Since I didn t have any children, I didn t have to be concerned with finding a babysitter (Bethel University, n.d.). At the end of each school day, I had to pay for parking as I exited the campus parking garage. Online learning can be conducted anytime and anywhere that has internet connection. The greater flexibility involved with online learning can cause a lot of stress to a student. It would be easy for a student to forget the weekly deadlines and the upcoming schedules (Bethel, University, n.d.). Students can suffer from a perceived lack of guidance, may experience isolation, and will likely have technology issues from time to time. (Bethel University, n.d., p. 7). In an online class discussion, words can be thought of carefully and edited several times before it is posted permanently unlike the traditional classroom which can t be edited after it has ... • 16. The Sociological Imagination, By Martin Luther King Martin Luther King wrote the following in a campus newspaper, the Maroon Tiger 1947, It seems to me that education has a two fold function in the life of man and in society: the one is utility and the other is culture (King, 1947). This essay will analyse via the sociological imagination, whose interests does schooling serve and why? In addressing this question, one needs to discuss why is an education so valued in Australia today. Education has had three phases of development according, to Van Krieken, 2013. Each phase being associated with a set of beliefs about the nature and purpose of education. Firstly, the advent of the modern system from the mid 19th century to World War II, influenced chiefly by liberal humanist ideas. • 17. A History Of The English Church And People When Bede was writing A History of the English Church and People the conflicts between Christians and pagans were still not long a ago and Christianity was not yet as dominant in England as it would be in the future. Therefore, the memories of these conflicts were still fresh within some people s minds and Bede made sure to record it. Bede wrote the history of past events of Christianity s struggles, the great men that protected it and enforced it. He wrote so that Christians would have an example on how to act in order to achieve greatness, how to avoid sin and how to strengthen Christianity and the Church itself in England. Bede thought that greatness is achieved only in one way and that was being a good, devout Christian. He used the history of King Oswald s life as an example of what it meant to be great and what are the rewards for achieving greatness. He wished everyone who read his history to follow in Oswald s footsteps as he continuously mention in his written work history records good things of good men, the thoughtful hearer is encouraged to imitate what is good . He gives many examples of Oswald s deeds as a devout Christian, but his number one achievement was bringing the faith to the lands of Bernicia. He came to Bernicia to fight heathen kings while at the same time showing a great trust in God, as before the battle he set up a holy cross and made everyone in his army pray before upcoming battles. it seems that there was no evidence of the ...
