Change In Society
A great leader once said, I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin,
but by the content of their character (Martin Luther King Jr.). As society continues to expand, the
tension between differences inflates even more, causing people to conceal their true self.
Although people are able to be who they desire to be, justice continues to be ignored towards
many groups of people all over the world. In order for people to protect themselves from the
judgement of society and fit into the social norm, many people will obscure their true identity,
affecting them in ways they never imagined.
One of the most common reasons that people hide their true identity is to avoid ridicule from the
community. Even though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This act of denying their wrongs showed how changes in society could have happened, but since
social stigmas are strong, people obscured themselves. Another example of people hiding
themselves from the tension of change can be seen in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by
Harper Lee. Dolphus Raymond, a wealthy white man who lives with his black mistress and
mulatto children, portrays a type of person who uses a different personality to mask himself.
While talking to Scout, Dill, and Jem, Dolphus says, It ain t honest, but it s mighty helpful to
folks. Secretly, Miss. Finch, I m not much of a drinker, but you see, they could never, never
understand that I live like I do because that s the way I want to live (Lee 268). Pretending to be
something else in a world that is judgmental is not hard for many people and it can or cannot
affect the person. In this case, Dolphus does not mind hiding his true self because of the thoughts
people would have towards him. After Scout questions him on why he would cry if he were
younger, he replies, Cry about the simple hell people give other people without even thinking. Cry
about the hell white people give colored people, without even stopping to think they re people
too (Lee 269). Although it is ironic that Dolphus, a drunk minded person, would care about such
a serious topic since he is not any different than people in society. Many individuals are very
aware and hesitant of the judgement that could occur if they changed their morale or way of life;
in turn prohibiting the chance for changes in society. While To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the
1930s, there is still racism happening today. For example, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
people really struggle. A young male living in Charlotte, North Carolina, named Brandon, identifies
as bisexual

Passivity vs. Passion in the Perks of Being a Wallflower
Passivity Vs. Passion The Perks of Being a Wallflower is by no means a typical narrative. Taking
the form of an epistolary novel presented as a series of letters from a boy who calls himself
Charlie, but notes that he will change names and minor details so for the sake of his anonymity, the
short novel tackles themes such as pedophilia, drug use, depression, abortion and many more
complex issues. Stuck in the middle of the mix is a young boy who certainly is not the archetypal
protagonist, the novels wallflower. Subjected to witness the hardships of those around him, he
rarely goes out on a limb to achieve much gratification for himself, remaining socially dormant
instead. However, in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, author Stephen... Show more content on

This novel parallels Charlie s psyche early in the book extremely well in that he is much like the
character who is the focus of the book, Boo Radley: shy, misunderstood, and original. In the
midst of his conversation over the book, Bill encourages Charlie to stop observing others so
much and to start participating. Charlie shares this problematic social symptom with Boo
Radley, though he never before had looked at himself as an outsider. This suggestion leads to an
uncharacteristic gap of two weeks between letters , which Charlie apologizes for. However in
the next letter, Charlie is very excited to share the news that while participating he made two
new friends: Sam and Patrick. Patrick is a senior boy in Charlie s shop class, and Sam is Patrick
s stepsister whom Charlie sees as being unconventionally beautiful. For the remainder of the
novel, Patrick is not only a great friend to Charlie, but also he provides counsel that is very
necessary, as Charlie is only just beginning to participate. While in Patrick s pickup truck, the
three of them listen to Blackbird by the Beatles. The song features lyrics that say spread your
wings and fly, which is essentially what Charlie has set out to do. After having heard the song,
Charlie states that it he feels infinite, and that after hearing the song with his two new friends, he
felt as if five minutes of his

Fellowship Of The Ring And Beowulf Comparison
The representation of an epic hero is found throughout Anglo Saxon literature. The origin of
english literature comes from Beowulf, the earliest known work written in old english. Beowulf
is a renowned epic that has been around for years and is the basis of epic literature. Beowulf
closely relates to another epic film called The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the ring, there
are certain attributes in both the film and poem that reflect the epic qualities. Just like any other
epic Beowulfand The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring contain qualities such as a
grand journey or deed of some sort, larger than life hero(s), and divine intervention.
In any epic, the objective of the Hero is typically cliche, the job of the epic hero ... Show more

In the Old English Literature Beowulf, Beowulf takes on the task of protecting Herot from Grendel.
Before Beowulf showed up to Herot, Grendel took control and was wreaking havoc for twelve
years. Herot fell apart and so did the king, Hrothgar, the only hope was Beowulf. Everyone was
depending on him to restore the peace and he did just that. Not only did Beowulf defeat Grendel
he also prevented any further attacks on Herot by going after Grendel s revenge seeking mother.
When Beowulf first arrives at Herot he is greeted at the door then escorted to the king where he
states ...My people have said, the wisest, most knowing and best of them, that my duty was to go
to the Danes Great King (lines 149 150). This quote shows how it was his duty to kill Grendel,
also shows his boastful hero qualities. While in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the
Ring, Frodo and a group of friends embark on a journey to destroy a ring that hold the power to
rule all. I will take the Ring to Mordor. Though I do not know the way , this was said by Frodo
before they started their journey to Mordor. Just like in Beowulf, the deed being done in the film
is to protect the people from being controlled unwillingly. These are both heroic deeds because it
takes the courage and bravery no ordinary people

Speech Cloud In Persepolis
Persepolis Twentieth century holds many enormous changes within all sections of life, graphic
novels as a branch of literature was a part of those changes. It employs visual and verbal
terminology to shape the story. One of the popular novels among graphic novels is Persepolis
which is about the story of the writer s childhood Marjane Satrapi. The narrative graphically and
textually tells about the events including removing Reza Shah from power and replacing him by
his son, ending western power over Iran, and fighting between Iran and Iraq which happened
during 1979 1988. Throughout these years Iranian people have gone through plenty of
fluctuations and changes which are analyzed in numerous ways by foreign people as in one of
her interview Marjane states that From the time I came to France in 1994, I was always telling
stories about life in Iran to my friends. We d see pieces about Iran on television, but they didn t

because the people are talking normally. For example, on page 70 when god asks Marji what is
wrong with her, Marjane uses speech cloud, for he was talking normally. On the other hand, she
puts her answer into a scream cloud which implies that she is angrily screaming and telling god to
get out. In addition, she uses thought cloud, for example, on page 60, when her uncle tells her that
he was in prison for nine years, she immediately thinks about Laly s father. In this point, the writer

Robert Peel s Nine Principles
Sir Robert Peel is an icon in the history of policing, just as is Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Civil
Rights Movement. It is virtually impossible for one to learn police history, or study policing in
general for that matter, without gaining knowledge about Peel and his principles. Furthermore, the
same could be said for taking a political science class, and not learning the differences between the
Democratic and Republican parties. However, Sir Robert Peelis known for other contributions, or
destructions, of society s well being, depending on one s perspective. As we all are aware, the
emotions and temperaments of individuals are heightened when politics are involved. First and
foremost, Peel not only revised and organized the field of policing, he also was the blame for
destroying the conservative party in the nineteenth century (Evans, 2006). He perceived himself
as an economic reformist which lead to the creation of the Corn Laws (Evans, 2006). He had the
ideology that removing and/or reducing taxes would be in the best interest of society. Thus, he
went against his party s wishes and removed all tariffs from corn resulting in a crisis (Evans,
2006). At first, the Corn Laws protected corn farmers, then quickly caused the prices of... Show

To me, the mission of police officers is to protect and serve citizens of the community, not just
prevent crime and disorder (Dempsey Forst, 2016, p.7). Furthermore, I believe police officers

among other duties shows the public the extent to which their local and state law enforcement
officers are efficiently performing their job duties, not just crime being absent (Dempsey, 2016).

Hank Gray Family
The Conglomerate Entrepreneur A family s purpose is teach children morals as they are raised.
Entrepreneurship is often an overlooked trait that is deeply rooted in family values. An
entrepreneur is defined as a person who starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to
make money (Merriam Webster). Not everyone is meant, or is willing, to be one, but most
successful entrepreneurs have a lot of their good habits originating from their childhoods.
Therefore, parents should give opportunities and promote entrepreneurship, if their child is one of
the few people cut out to be an entrepreneur.
Both of the people I interviewed, Hank Gray and Babe Hyett, were entrepreneurs. Hank Gray
was seeking a long term career when he was offered to buyout a machine shop from an older
man. After accepting the offer, Hank expected developed the company and eventually named it
Gray Machine and Welding. The business has not only provided a great career for him, but also
for his son who now manages the company. When I asked Hank what his family contributed to
his success, he said his father taught him how to work, be responsible, and be honest. These
traits he held true to and his business has grown over the years by word of mouth. Hank is a good
example of a person who did his best at everything, and as a result, never had to look for work after
he started his business.
I personally have taken on entrepreneurial tasks. Last winter, an insurance company asked my
father if he would

The Problem Of Criminal Justice System
Since the dawn of man crime has been a problem. Even though most people have some basic
sense of what is right and what is wrong, crime still occurs. All the way back to the ancient code of
Hammurabi man has tried to understand, classify, and appropriately punish crime. The bible itself
includes a detailed set of rules, or commandments, about what was legal and what wasn t. There are
many ideas and schools of thought that surround the idea of criminal justice. Initially the main goals
of these schools of thought were to classify and punish crimes, however in the recent past we are
seeing a shift toward the deterrence and prevention of crime. Early classical, biological, and
psychological theories helped shape what is today s criminal justice system.
One of the earliest theories that attempted to explain the cause of crime is classical theory. In 1764,
Cesare Beccaria published his Essay on Crimes and Punishments. The book, which contained
Beccaria s thoughts and observations about the criminal justice system, was important because it
was the first of its time to contain thoughts about the philosophy of punishment. According to
classical theory, individuals have the ability to exercise free will and due to this should be held
responsible for their actions. Crime is a result of rational decision making where the criminal must
decide if the possible punishment for the crime is worth the potential gain. Beccaria stated that
crimes needed fitting punishments to act as a

Over two hundred years ago, the founding fathers of this great nation signed their names to the
Declaration of Independence, sending a message to Great Britain that they were tired of being
subservient to a monarch who had no respect for his people. These extraordinary men understood
the concept of liberty and embraced it with great passion. They were all too familiar with the
consequences of a government with excess power. In order to prevent America from returning to
the ways of Great Britain, they crafted one of the greatest documents ever written, the Constitution

in Hulse). On October 23, 2001, Representative F. James Sensenbrenner from the ninth district of
Wisconsin introduced the USA PATRIOT Actof 2001 to Congress ( Bill ). The bill contained
many surveillance provisions that the Justice Department had submitted to Congress in the past (
Seeking ). The Bush administration used this time to bully Congress into passing the USA
PATRIOT Act. The administration insinuated that any future attacks were going to be blamed on
members of Congress who stood against the bill ( Surveillance ).Unfortunately, many members
of Congress panicked under the pressure of the circumstances and voted in favor of this
unconstitutional bill. Despite the facts that the act had minimal discussion or debate and

With week one in the books, Penn State can hang their collective heads high with an impressive 52
0 win over the Akron Zips. This wasn t a big win that bolsters their playoff resume, but a game that
the Nittany Lion needed to have in preparation for more meaningful games, like next week vs. Pitt.
5 takeaways
1.Saquon Barkley will be a Heisman finalist o This statement isn t about the dominant running back
exposing an inferior opponent but about his mentality when he plays. Early in the 2nd half with a
35 0 lead over Akron, Barkley took a counter handoff to the right. After nothing developed for that
broken play it would be typical for the running back to just go down, especially with how lopsided
the score was at the time. But Saquon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With each year since, the program has been allotted more and more, culminating in this being the
first year with the full complement of scholarships. This allowed the Nittany Lions to add the
component of depth around the team. If you stayed around to watch the end of the game when the
outcome wasn t in doubt then you would ve seen promising play from the backups. When you
watch the fourth quarter for Penn State, there isn t a significant drop off in play, and the backups
come out running and ready to produce.
5.They ve moved passed the Rose Bowl loss o After a heartbreaking defeat, like the one the
Nittany Lions suffered in the Rose Bowl against USC, there is always reason for concern as a
loss like that can affect players mentality. Well don t tell that to Penn State, as they seemed to be
picking up where they left off (aside from McSorley s first quarter pick) and hungrier than ever to
right the wrong from last year.
This was, in all facets a perfect opening game for the Nittany Lions. They got big production from
their three headed monster of Barkley, McSorley, and Mike Gesicki on offense (two touchdowns
each), a phenomenal all around defensive performance, and even a punt return for a touchdown, the
programs first since 2008.

Neoliberal Globalization And Canadian Sweatshops

exploitation of child labor in Asian and Canadian sweatshops. In the late 20th and early 21st

sector of the world economy. Neoliberal values often argue in favor of free market practices and
globalization , which lay the economic foundations for first world transnational fashioncorporations

More so, the scaling down of production trends to make these local production facilities much
smaller, which eventually results in the formation of a sweatshop style of production. For instance,
the process of sewing a garment can be subcontracted to smaller facilities through a chain of
production methodology: Sewing is contracted out to a network of subcontractors, called jobbers,
who may use home based workers or sweatshop operations to minimize operating costs and
maximize profit margins (Ng 195). These working environments are important examples of how
child labor can be exploited in Canada, as well as in other nations that arte more exposed to the
powerful financial controllers of transitional garment corporations. These are important operational
standards in the sweatshop, which further expose the problem of transnational policies that are
supported by the free market ideology of the neoliberal

Military Recruitment In High Schools
As I m sure you know, military recruitment in high schools has been a hot topic ever since the No
Child Left Behind Act passed in 2001. According to the NCLB, all high schools that receive
government funding must provide military recruiters the same access to secondary school students
as is provided generally to post secondary educational institutions or to prospective employers of
those students (No Child Left Behind Act of 2001). And unfortunately, any schoolthat refuses this

Some people such as yourself, who do not support military recruiting in high schools, worry that
military recruiters prey on the poor students and persuade them to join by offering things such as
signing bonuses and the promise of free college. Admittedly those things might be offered,
although not specifically for those of a lower income household, but for all recruits, and they are
not intended to be used to trap those students into the Military service. In a study done by the
Center for Naval Analyses under the Department of Defense it was found that when the nation is
divided into five strata of affluence , from poorest to wealthiest areas, most recruits hail from the
three middle income brackets while the poorest (under $36,74 a year) and the wealthiest (over
$76,981 a year) brackets are under represented (CNA 2014). I understand your concerns on this
matter, and while in some cases the recruiters might actually focus on the lower income families,

Advancements in Women s Rights Over the Past 100 Years Essay
Most cultures and societies through both history, and today have viewed women as the weaker sex
. Often they labeled unfit to perform many jobs outside of child bearing and domestic chores, even
considered less intelligent than men are. In the past, this attitude translated into fewer jobs for
women, below average pay, and poor working conditions.
This continues today, despite the many great advances women have made in the past 100 years.
This is evident in the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) fields, where a man is far more
likely to get the position than a woman is. The rate of males EMTs compared to femaleEMTs was a
ration of 8 1 in 2010. During my research, I came across a website which states,

Another reason for job inequality could be the misconception that women are unable to make
rational decisions, because they are emotionally driven. Women are emotional creatures, but their
emotions do not override common sense. Typically, women have to study more, and work harder
than a man to achieve their position of power. According to the Harvard Business Review
Women, still face tougher odds not only getting into, but also staying in the C suite. (CEO). They
conducted a study in which they studied the leadership of the world s top 2000 companies; they
found that 29 (1.5%) of those CEOs were women. The Harvard Business Review also notes the
difference between men and women CEOs and suggests that women still aren t treated as equals to
men when it comes to high stakes positions. Another study by Darden Professor Erica James
reported that stock in a company drops after the announcement of a female CEO, but not after that
of a male CEO.
As time went on women continued their struggle to earn their right even today. In some areas
around the world, women are still expected to be those perfect 50 s housewives where they cook,
clean, make, and raise the children. In areas around the world like Israel, women who cannot have

Richard Linklater s Boyhood Was A Super Hit American...
Paper Two: Boyhood Director and producer, Richard Linklater s Boyhood was a super hit American
drama film that was released in the United States in July 11, 2014. Boyhood, to this date is still one
of my most favorite movies. It is taken place over a course of ten to eleven years (2002 2013). It is
about a boynamed Mason Evans Jr. who lives with his older sister Samantha Evans, and his
single mother Olivia Evans. Mason s father, Mason Evans Sr. had great impact to Mason Jr.
throughout his childhood. What s spectacular about this movie is that the same actors and
actresses were used all throughout the time span. Mason grew up how many ordinary boys do
with divorced parents. His mother would get into relationships with other men, but never choose
to go back with Mason s father. The family moves to Houston and his father would sometimes
come visit and take him and his sister out to places. It would be easier for Mason if his father
and mother got back together which unfortunately doesn t happen. You could say that Mason
struggles with life as he grows up. He goes through family problems, financial problems, peer
pressure, relationship problems, breakups, etc. Now, many teenage boys experience at least one of
these problems. That s just life. Mason doesn t have to go through too much financial problems,
just probably one main one every family goes through financial problems once in a while. Mason
has family problems because his parents are divorced and his mother

The Purchasing Power Parity ( Ppp ) And I Will Divide This...
Introduction:
A quote from Adam Smith s book shows the distinguishes between money and wealth : It would be
too ridiculous to go about seriously to prove that wealth does not consist in money, or in gold and
silver; but in what money purchases, and is valuable only for purchasing. This quote means the
money purchases seems to be more important than money itself, in other words, this view is
consistent with many economists who think the purchasing power is important. There is two type
of fundamental international financial relationships: first is the Purchasing power parity which
occurs in goods and services market, the second is the interest parity which occurs in the money
market. Both relationships state the association among interest rate, inflation rates, and change in
exchange rates.
In this paper, I will only focus on discussing the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and I will divide
this paper into four sections. In section 1, I will come up with the definition of PPP and other
theories behind it. For section 2, I will briefly introduce the absolute PPP and relative PPP and
empirical evidence on PPP. Section 3 explains empirical test of PPP in practice and the problem of
PPP. For the last section, there are conclusion and remarks.

In this section, I will define the purchasing power parity and other theories behind PPP.

History of the U.S. Health Care Delivery System
Introduction:
In order to understand current health delivery services changes and formulate predictions, one
must thoroughly comprehend the three developmental eras of the health care system. The
evolution of our current health care system began in 1850, and has metamorphosed in three time
periods, 1850 to 1900, 1900 to World War II (WW II), and WW II to 2009. Significant distinct and
overlapping trends in disease prevalence, availability of health care resources, social organizations,
and the public s knowledge and perception of health and illness and technology.

Nursing care was unscientific and consisted of assisting patients with usual body functions; and
was typically administered by women of a religious order or by women who by nature of their
lifestyle frequented hospitals. Hospital care was for the poor and destitute; since home based
medical care was better than risking additional infections in the dirty, crowded, and disease ridden
hospitals. During the typhus epidemic of 1852, hospital staff and patients suffered the greatest
morbidity and mortality. (Ranade , 199817 19)
1900 World War II: Birthing of Scientific Medicine
New discoveries spawn more medical research in medical colleges. In 1910, Abraham Flexner of
the Carnegie Foundation publishes his study on medical education, and induces major medical
education reform. Medical knowledge flourishes and specialists account for 20% of physicians in
1940. Hospitals begin to embellish new medical technology as physicians relied on the hospital as
a source of access to new technology and as a facility in which to care for their sickest patients.

Examples Of Dualism In Star Trek
In the Star Trek episode that was viewed, it turns into a question if Data should have the
authority to choose if he can be knocked down as an approach for his friends to learn more about
him. Maddox signals Data on it and has a disagreement that the technology perhaps is used to
establish a force of androids that would support their search farther. Everybody who sees this
episode realizes that Data appears and operates like a natural and ordinary human. A dualism
aspect is presented when Captain Picard mentions that he thinks that Data has the option to say no
to being disassembled. According to Hasker (1983), Dualism begins by taking quite seriously that
human beings have both physical properties and mental properties (Husker, 1983). He continues
by observing that this is opposed to other assumptions like that of idealism and behaviorism which
weaken the two together into one. (Hasker, 1983). Dualism is made clear more when Hasker
states that, physical properties are properties of the body, while mental properties are properties of
the mind, (Hasker, 1983). Picard applies dualism to illustrate that Data is... Show more content on

that Data even has a soul, he believes that Data is the property of Starfleet and can be used as

Politics As A Method Of Resolving Conflict Essay
It is important to consider that politics is a contested concept with numerous differing views and
perspectives presented to us. These different perspectives can offer similar perspectives on the
concept of politics and what it means; whilst other times the views are strongly contrasting creating
debate on the subject. The main examples of the differing views of politicsare as follows: Politics as
the art of government; which is the more traditional view of politics. Politics as public affairs; a
view which focuses on public institutions rather than civil society. Politics as compromise and
consensus; a view which sees politics as a method of resolving conflict. The final view of politics
is the view that politics is power; this more cynical view of politics focuses more on the idea of
power within the state. This essay will serve to set out these definitions; compare and contrast them
with one another to hopefully ascertain a detailed idea of the concept of politics.
To begin we should examine what is commonly seen as the traditional view of politics: politics as
the art of government. This point of view suggests that the study of politics is solely the study of
government, the administrative arm of the state, more specifically the legislature and executive
branches with a lesser focus on the judiciary wing. Government can be seen in the following way:
... institutions responsible for making collective decisions for society. More narrowly, government
refers to the top

Examples Of Tension In Spider Man
Term 1 drama There are many examples of relationship tension in the film spider man. I am
going to state some of these starting with the first example which is in the first couple of scenes
when Peter Parker is chasing the bus and everyone inside of it is laughing at him including the
bus driver. This scene shows task tension because it shows that peter is trying to catch the bus and
if he doesn t make it, the outcome will be that he will miss the excursion, this is relationship
tension because Peter has something to do, an amount of time to do it and if he doesn t complete
the task there will be consequences. This scene also shows relationship tension because everyone
in the bus is laughing at peter showing he is not liked by others and even... Show more content on

One of the first is when Peter is unknown of a spider coming down above him and he is enjoying
his time with Mary Jane. The spider comes down and peter still does not know this. This is
mystery tension and this changes into surprise tension because the spider snaps at Peter which
was unexpected to the viewers. It starts with mystery tension because threatening things are
happening to peter and he does not know and it is surprize tension because we did not expect the
spider to lash out at peter. In this scene the mystery and surprise is also emphasised through the
music used. Another example Of tension of mystery is when They are on the excursion looking
at the spider, Mary Jane says there is only fourteen spiders when the woman said that there
should be fifteen. This is tension of mystery because people are left wondering where this spider
is, that it could be anywhere. Another example of tension of mystery and surprise is when Dr
Osborne is testing the formula and nobody knows what the outcome is going to be and that is why
it is tension of mystery. This converts to tension of surprize because dr Osborne unexpectedly
grabs Norman, throwing him and killing him and this is tension of surprize because we didn t
expect it to

What Does The Poison Tree Represent
A symbol is a person, a place, a creature, an article, or an occasion inside of a bit of composing that
exists on a literal level additionally alludes to something on a figurative level. In relationship
with William Blake s the poison tree, the idea of a tree that is toxic take us back to the Tree of
Knowledge of good and evil from the book of Genesis. Likewise the title of this poem represents its
central symbol. That the speaker sustains his anger against a foe, and it develops into a tree
bearing poisonous fruit. typically, Poison reveals death, malicious; it is normally given to
somebody with a specific end goal to murder them. Tree reveals growth, nature, or an image of rot.
Evil is being embodied on a tree.

In line 13, the garden as a symbol alludes to the Garden of Eden and the Tree of Knowledge

In line 16, the speaker s anger has developed from a little plant into a tree. Here the tree spins

One of my most memorable moments was Jamaica s performance in the 2008 Olympics where
beloved Jamaican Sprinter and Ambassador Usain Bolt, set three world records and won three

in my heart because of his will, grit and tenacity. Every record they said he wouldn t break he has

Olympic 100m final. In doing this he broke his own world record, and finished well ahead of
second place finisher Richard Thompson, who finished in 9.89 s. This record is even more
remarkable because it was set without a favorable wind (+0.0 m/s), and towards the finish line he

The Erie Canal Linked Transportation and Trade in the...
The Erie canal was very important to the United States. It was designed to link our nation through
transportation and trade and was the fastest way to transport goods. It also linked many parts of the
country. The Erie Canal was a vital part of Henry Clay s plan known as the American System,
which was designed to link our nation through trade and transportation.
The canal that links the waters of Lake Erie to the west of the Hudson River in the east, is the Erie
Canal. The Erie Canal is an example of Henry Clay s vision to harmonize and balance the country
s agriculture, economy and industries. The building of this canal was first proposed in 1808
and was eventually completed in 1824. At the time, New York State Governor De Witt Clinton
envisioned a canal that would link Albany to Buffalo. The idea was criticized by some and given
the name Clinton s ditch . The idea turned out to be a critical turning point for the country since it
opened up many new possibilities. In the early 19th century the transportation of goods between
the east and west was expensive and time consuming. The normal way of transportation before
the canal, was by horse drawn carriages. Then the bold idea of the Erie Canal was proposed to
ease the tiring commute. The Erie canal was intentionally built to open the country west of the
Appalachian Mountains to settlers. The canal would also provide a safe, cheaper way for produce
to be carried to various markets. The canal then became the fastest way

Cardiovascular Disease Essay example
Cardiovascular Disease in the African American Community
Causes, Preventions, and Treatments
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to the dysfunctional conditions of the heart, arteries, and veins
that supply oxygen to vital life sustaining areas of the body like the brain, the heart itself and other
vital organs. Since the term cardiovascular disease refers to any dysfunction of the cardiovascular
system there are many different diseases in the cardiovascular category, and many of these
diseases are strongly intertwined. Ischemic Heart Disease is the medical idiom for the obstruction
of blood flow to the heart. It is usually due largely in part to excess fat or plaque deposits that

The body is often able to mask the subtle damage due to the extra work the cardiovascular system is
undergoing, but not forever, and for that reason hypertension is often referred to as the silent killer .
In fact, approximately 27% of African Americans with hypertension are unaware of their
condition. Unfortunately, many times the first warning signs of hypertension are angina attack,
stroke, or even myocardial infarction, all severe cardiovascular diseases. Dyslipidemia is defined
as a total cholesterol level greater than 200 mg/dl., LDL cholesterol above 130 mg/d, HDL
cholesterol bellows 35 mg/dl; and a lipoprotein level greater than 30 mg/dl. An elevated cholesterol
level rigorously lends itself towards conditions such as atherosclerosis, which can in turn lead to
more serious CVDs. However, cholesterol is not actually a damage mechanism but rather a risk
factor for increased risk of heart disease. In many aspects of health and disease, biological and
genetic variables are considered to be the most important in reaching a medical solution to a
problem. Nevertheless, evidence suggests that social disparities between African Americans and
the rest of the American population may have a greater influence over disease prevalence then
genetic differences. It is common knowledge, that as a race African Americans are far more likely

Lucid Dreams And Information-Processing Theory
Dreaming is defined by the Barron AP Psychology Book as the series of storylike images we
experience as we sleep (McEntarffer, 2016, p. 113). Dreams come in all shapes and sizes; some
seem random and others may seem to hold more meaning. There are a wide array of dream theories
including Freudian theory, information processing theory, and activation synthesis theory as
described in the aforementioned book. Freud s perspective emphasizes the unconscious mindand
how dreams can reveal repressed memories. Similar to Freud s theory, the information processing
theory attributes dreamcontent to daily stress as the brain uses dreams to process a day s events.
The activation synthesis theory takes on a more biological perspective, focusing on how... Show

To figure out the specific applications of lucid dreaming research, Melanie Schädlich from the
University of Heidelberg in Germany and Daniel Erlacher from the University of Bern in
Switzerland collaborated on an online survey back in 2012, in which 300 frequent lucid
dreamers were asked about possible benefits of lucid dreaming as it pertains to their daily lives.
The results are as follow: The most frequent application (81.4%) was having fun, followed by
changing a bad dream or nightmare into a pleasant one (63.8%), solving problems (29.9%),
getting creative ideas or insights (27.6%) and practicing skills (21.3%) (p. 134). For this reason,
lucid dreaming could prove to be a useful tool in combating nightmares or fears, and it may even
prove a useful tool in therapy further down the road if scientists continue to research it and figure

Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
The Hills Analyzed
Ernest Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants leaves the reader s mind to wander throughout the
piece. The story s set place in a railway restaurant involving two individuals that are, apparently
involved in a less than stable relationship. Contemplating the outcomes of an event that neither of
them is really sure that he or she wants to embark on, is the mystery Hemingway reveals. Both
individuals are leaning toward different directions, but is not sure the direction they desire is the
one they truly believe is right. The uncertainty of their interactions is the viewpoint of the story.
Hemingway is opening our eyes to the fact that relationships are uncertain, but there must be a
common ground for both parties to stand on.
The setting in which the story takes place emphasizes the relationship of the man and the woman
in the story. Hemingway writes: On this side there was no shade and no trees and the station was
between two lines of rails in the sun. Close against the side of the station there was the warm
showdown of the building and a curtain, made of strings of bamboo beads , hung across the open
door in the bar to keep flies out (HLWE 475).
The very nature of the environment brings the reader to question what the man and woman truly
share between on one another. The description of the surroundings brings to mind a secluded
relationship which is bare and rushed, being they are sitting in a train station junction awaiting the
next landmark. As

Compare And Contrast Archetypal Journey In As I Lay Dying

Archetypal Journey As I Lay Dying and Little Miss Sunshine are two stories about a family s
journey and the setback they face along the way. The type of journey the families endure follows
the path of rising and then falling that occur throughout their time together. Little Miss Sunshine is
an effective contemporary version of the archetypal journey when compared to As I Lay Dying

In As I Lay Dying, the Bundren family uses a wagon to get to Jefferson, but the wagon proves to
be a symbol of the family s dysfunction. During the wagon ride Jewel refuses to sit with the
family in the wagon and rides his horse a mile further then the rest of the family (Faulkner 108).
The wagon proves to be a symbol of dysfunction because the family can work together as a whole
or even come together as a whole. The mechanic tells the family that You get enough people you
just get behind there and push. Just push it up to ten, fifteen miles and hour, and you just go.
Everybody jump inside, and you just go! (Arndt 37). Shortly after, the family works together to
get the bus moving and their journey continues. The VW bus in Little Miss Sunshine shows to
be the family s connection to one another and allows the family to come together and work as a
whole. This bus is a symbol of the family s function as a whole, but also represent the family s
individual problems because each person in the car is going through their own battle, Olive
winning the pageant, Dwayne trying to get to flight school, Richard trying to make a business deal
and Frank trying to get over a past lover. There are many incidents in Little Miss Sunshine when
the literary device foreshadowing is used. For example, when the car breaks down early on, the
family should have used that as a sign that this is just the beginning of the problems that they will
face throughout the journey. Similarly, in As I Lay Dying the Bundrens had many signs that
foreshadowed into the horrible journey that they faced. For

The lighting in Mary Poppins is a three point sequence of lighting making the film bright and
colorful, making the story feel more lifelike. For example, the mise en scene in Mary Poppins
the scenery, like at the park, and photography is very cartoon like. The movie is basically played
off the imagination of the two child characters in the movie. The lighting technique contributed
to the film as a whole, by allowing it to be colorful and full of imagination just the way the writer
wanted the film to become on the screen. A favorite scene, towards the end of the movie, of
mine is when the Banks family goes to the park to fly their kite as a family. As the director
shows a shot of the entire family, the Banks family is in the center of the frame. As well, the
objects that are surrounding the Banks allow for a balanced frame. The audience members feel,
for once in the film, that the Banks family has finally come together and everyone can feel the
love the all have for one another which is exactly the feeling the director wanted to evoke from the
audience. Another example, that goes in the Mise en Scene of Mary Poppins, is the proxemic

Alienation By Kristen Dombek s Piece, She Details Various...
Alienation is something we find to be constantly present within our society. This idea is steadily
exemplified throughout history whether it be through class, race, or any social unjust. In
Kristen Dombek s piece, she details various accounts of social alienation. The reader follows as
Dombek reveals corruption between human relationships and the way we interact with world.
She exposes what we are all afraid to admit modern values and morals. Kristen Dombek presses
us with the question of why we do the things we do and live the way we live. Readers are forced
to question if they are slaves to the world around them. Do we succumb to the social and
economical pressure demanded from us, and if so, will we allow that to happen for the
generations after us? Although alienation is something that roots from ourselves as individuals,
recognize the factors in our lives that this originates from. Question the relationships people
have established in their own neighborhood, or if a prosaic office job is fulfilling. When we
serve our economy but it does not do the same for us, the symbiosis or harmony in which live in

Influences Of Moby Dick
The crucial effects that influenced Herman Melville to write his famous novel, The Moby Dick.
From here on, Herman Melville had many life experiences that gave him ideas to write a novel
about this tragic experience he had heard before. This tragic experience was the main influence
in his life to compose his famous novel, The Moby Dick . Speaking about this, Herman was
impressed by the fact he heard about this tragic incident that occurred on November 20, 1820. In
fact, the ship or American whaler where everything happened was named The Essex. The Essex
was Herman s main influence to write the novel due to the fact this novel is based on the real life
experiences Herman went through. Anyhow, Herman was not part of this incident even though he
was stuttered and was shocked by this. Eventually, the crew and the captain, George Pollard Jr,
were able to survive and later on return to Nantucket with the hope of finding another ship to
captain. However, all of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herman started to feel a little disappointed in himself because he realized his novel was not selling

lifetime. Melville s thought the influences he wrote this novel from where not enough to reach the
goal he had with this novel. In particular, The Essex and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Nathaniel
Hawthorne was his second influence to write the novel. Regarding this, Herman Melville dedicated
The Moby Dick to Nathaniel Hawthorne but he was happy with the fact of his literary results.
Notably, Herman had a huge inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne due to the fact he is one of the
most respected and admirable writers internationally. Herman had the opportunity to meet

that spans over 1000km including hundreds of small islands between Kyushu and Taiwan. The
climates of the islands range from humid subtropical towards the northern end to tropical
rainforest climates in the south. Of the hundreds of island, less than half are inhabited while
much of the other island are coral reefs and too small to live on. Because of the lack of land and
the difference in climate between the different islands, agriculture was a slow development from
the 8th century to the 12th century. The Okinawa islands are not suited for wet rice farming as
there are a lack of rivers and large lakes, which means it must rely on the... Show more content on

Due to Okinawa s geographical advantage, it was a launch pad for covert missions over South
East Asia. Growing tension between the people and the military highlighted the anti Vietnam war
sentiment that connected the political views for the reversion of Okinawa to Japan (Morrocco).
More controversy grew alleging the storage of Nuclear weapons on Okinawa and growing fears
over the escalating Vietnam War as people perceived this as being a potential target for
Communist China as they could feel threatened by the US military power. As more information
leaked out the local population grew fear for the potential of a retaliation by the Chinese
government (Mitchell). The Okinawa uprising, also known as the Koza riot was a violent and
spontaneous protest against the US military personnel in Okinawa. This event which occurred on
December 20, 1970 was symbolised as the Okinawan anger against the 25 years of military
occupation. This was one of the many challenges that Okinawans faced

Us Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay
The Global Economic Environment
EMBA 683 Fall 2011
Case: U.S. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Policy Reactions
1) What are the causes behind the U.S. Subprime mortgage crisis? Is one cause more responsible
than another?
The first and more important factor that lead to the subprime mortgage crisis was governments
creation of Freddie and Fannie. This move by the government to intercede the private financial
industry sector eventually lead to the US government being the largest lender of mortgages in the
US. In addition to the flawed notion that government should determine who and how a borrow
qualifies for mortgage loan is disconcerting in and of itself, but this also marked a fundamental
change in banks models of originate and hold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the innovated financial instruments mentioned above allowed individuals that would have
never been able to qualify for a mortgage in the past to enter the market. This surge of new home
buyers into the market created a spiraling effect that now leaves are market in an excess supply of
homes, and a failed mortgage system that was created and still subsidized by the tax payers as we
continue to bailout Freddie and Fannie.
2) What has the Fed done with regard to monetary policy to address the economic downturn
resulting from the subprime crisis? What is your assessment of how Ben Bernake has handled the
situation?
The Fed implemented several strategies in an attempt to stabilize the economy by first targeting the
struggling Financial Industry. The first move by Bernake was to reduce the target funds rate to 0
0.25% in an attempt to provide liquidity to the banks that needed it. Benake also increased
government spending by building up their balance sheet with the assets that were currently frozen
in the capital markets, such as mortgage backed securities. The Fed believed that by purchasing
these assets from the banks it will remove the assets from the banks but also recreate a market for
these type of financial instruments, which would ultimately help the housing industry as well. To
help illustrate Benake s monetary policy philosophy and actions are best summarized by the

An Essay On Why Should Guard Dogs Be Feded
Most dogs used as guard dogs are German Shepherds, with an occasional Doberman Pinscher,
Boxer, or Labrador Retriever. The average weight of an adult male guard dog is about 70
pounds. None should weigh less than 50 pounds. To satisfactorily provide a guard dog with
adequate amounts of energy and nutrients every day, its food should have the following three
characteristics: 1) It should contain approximately 2000 calories in each pound. 2) It should have
the nutrients balanced to be fed at about 40 available calories per pound of body weight. 3) The
overall digestibility of the food should not be less than 80 percent.
No food exists, in normal commercial food channels, that will satisfy the characteristics just listed.

But, because of the high water content of meat foods, their addition actually reduces the caloric
density of the final diet combination.
Caloric density can be increased by the addition of corn oil. This procedure works well only when
increased energy needs are minimal. With a guard dog s energy requirements, however, so much
corn oil is needed that it, too, will dilute the food and nutrient deficiencies are apt to occur.
All guard dogs should be fed by strict portion control. How each dog s weight, general condition,
and performance are affected by its diet can be much more accurately compared when feeding by
portion control. Guard dogs whom are from a self feeder are apt to become overweight, sluggish
or unresponsive. The last two are particularly fatal to a guard dog and its mission.
Guard dogs should be fed no less than three hours, before or after, their tour of duty. To feed any
closer to the tour is an invitation to bloat, torsion or other gastric distress. The danger of these
diseases is further increased if the dogs are eating low quality foods containing poorly digested

Comparing the Application of Integrated Marketing...
During the last decade of the twentieth century, the concept of integrated marketing
communications (IMC) received considerable attention from practitioners and academics alike, and
that interest has continued into the new millennium (e.g., Bearden and Madden 1996; Cornelissen
and Lock 2000; Duncan, Schultz, and Patti 2005; Garretson and Burton 2005; Nowak and Phelps
1994; Schultz and Kitchen 2000a; Schumann, Artis, and Rivera 2001). As the marketplace has
become more fragmented over the years, organizations have embraced IMC as a means to
effectively and efficiently target and attract the splintering mass market through the transmission of
a unified message across all contact points between organizations and their consumers. Whether the

For instance, an ad that contains a direct response tool (e.g., a coupon), a public relations appeal
(e.g., support of an esteemed social cause), and brand advertising (e.g., depiction and description of
the offering) would reflect the integrated communication form of IMC. A key outcome of this
approach is the acquisition of consumer information that is captured when consumers respond to
direct response tools, sales promotions, and the like (Nowak and Phelps 1994).
The one voice approach reflects a firm s focus on a single positioning strategy that emphasizes
unity among brand/ image advertising, direct response advertising, public relations, and consumer
sales promotions at the outset of a promotional campaign (Reilly 1991; Snyder 1991). In this
approach, the position, message, or theme is what ultimately guides an organization s IMC
decisions, which ostensibly could be rendered independently by the firm s advertising, public
relations, and sales promotion agencies (Nowak and Phelps 1994).
The third approach, coordinated marketing communication campaigns, stresses the need to
integrate the activities of different marketing communication disciplines (e.g., sales promotions,
advertising, and public relations) in

Insurance has been an institution of human society for thousands of years, having been by
Chinese and Babylonian traders as long ago as the second millennium BC. The Babylonian

practiced by early Mediterranean sailing merchants. If a merchant receives a loan to fund his

cancel the loan should the shipment be stolen.

Insurance in India
Life Insurance
In India, even from the days of Indus Valley civilization, the provision of taking care of the
dependents of those dying was practiced. Further, the concept of joint family system in itself is a
method of taking care of the dependents of those who die prematurely. In Manu Manav Dharma
Shasthra there are mentions about taking care of the dependents of those dying as also taking care
of people during old age. The term Yogakshema is found in Rig Veda thereby indicating the
existence of some type of joint family system even 300 years ago. In the times of Buddha, mention
about the existence of Burial System is available, thereby indicating the concept of mutual welfare,
which is nothing but the Life Insurance in action.
With the establishment of the Oriental Life Insurance Company, a British firm in Kolkata, the
business of Indian insurance started in the year 1818. Later on, Bombay Mutual Assurance Society

The Issue Of Child Marriage Essay
Child marriage is one of the hardest things a teenage child could face. It is basically a violation
of children s human rights. It is strictly prohibited by international law. Early marriage takes
away the girls right to make important decisions about their sexual health and well being.
Historically, patriarchal societies have marginalized women in various aspects across the world.
Women disenfranchisement, in this way, is not a new phenomenon. However, with the passage
of time women have been able to claim their rights and are seen at par with men in many
developed societies. But the misfortune still persists in many parts of the world. Many societies
still fail to see woman as fully human and fail to appreciate their role in the building of society. As
a result, women are still subject to grave injustice in many societies and such societies also suffer
from underdevelopment for minimal role of women in their development. Nepal is a country where
women suffer from the issue of Child or Early Marriages . This is a century s long practice in Nepal
and unfortunately nothing significant has appeared in form of tangible indicators that indicate the
improvement in this grave scenario. International community and NGOs are working on this issue
of Nepal as their priority but unfortunately with little success. Nepal government has also been

Eggers did a fantastic job of showing this. Taking the way he wrote could lead to clues that he
actually did try to incorporate the way Zeitoun treated his wife and family. Eggers really did not
fully show that Zeitoun was an unbreakable superhero. He shows how Zeitoun and Kathy
disagree on things and how they argue.(Nashe) When Zeitoun and Kathy went on that walk to
this huge rock, Kathy said multiple times how she wanted to turn back around and forget about
what they promised. Zeitoun would not let her turn around. He would say that they had come to
far to turn back. This could allude to the abuse he put Kathy under. The rock could be the goal,
and Zeitoun would want to stay together and prove that they had a strong marriage and a strong
will to grow together. Kathy turning around could act like her wanting to give up everything they
went through and for the both of them to start off brand new; but Zeitoun won. They walked to
the rock, but even though Kathy kept up the strong act for a while, it did not last. Eggers also
showed he was stubborn and that he put a lot of effort into his work. Zeitoun eventually became a
workaholic, partly because of the fact he was imprisoned. After the storm though, Eggers shows
how both of them are broken.(Nashe) Without indirectly adding these little hints, it is easy to say
that Eggers probably did not know about the abuse; but since there are the tiny hint, it is possible to
say that Eggers might have known about some of it. He might not have known all the details, but
he perhaps knew a little something. He does not have the right to come out and just say that Kathy
was abused because he used what the family gave to him. If they gave him the information, he
should have said something, but if they did not give him the information he can not just accuse
Zeitoun. The fact that Eggers and the filmmaker, Jonathan Demme, said Our primary

Although $11 billion has been spent on waste management, it has not prevented the issue from

The garbage crisis started in December 2007 when landfills closed and workers stopped collecting
trash. With nowhere else to dump garbage, streets became dumpsters. The Naples strike had
garbage piling up to an incredible height and even narrowed streets. Residents were left to deal
with the foul smell of the left over trash, but also the possibility of the trash having an effect on

The European Commission set a deadline of a month for the garbage to be picked up in Naples.
In a press release, the European Commission formally accused Italy of not adhering to EU

Ophelia Character Analysis
In the play, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Ophelia, the daughter of Polonius, is seen as a fair
maiden who wants her love with Hamlet to be eternal. Due to the many warnings from her father
Polonius and her brother Laertes, she succumbs to her father s wishes and plays the role of a good
daughter, thus betraying Hamlet. Previously in the play where Hamlet gives his soliloquy on life
and death, Ophelia has been ordered to break off her relationship with Hamlet while Polonius
eavesdrops to prove that Hamlet has truly gone mad. As a result of Hamlet s supposed madness and
Ophelia s docile character during the confrontation, both of their fragile hearts shatter and Ophelia
begins her dark descent into madness, leading to her eventual death.
Throughout acts one and two of the play, Ophelia in Hamlet s eyes is seen as one of the only
fair and trustworthy outliers in the array of deception. After his soliloquy about life and death
with its dark and apathetic tone, there is a shift when Ophelia is in his presence. As Hamlet
realizes his beloved is approaching, he commands himself, Soft you now! to make sure Ophelia
does not hear what he is saying as if not to corrupt this beauty from heaven (Shakespeare III.i.86).
His mood perks up and the tone of his words become more endearing when he calls her a Nymph
(III.i.87). Shakespeare s diction here further builds upon how the audience sees their relationship.
The positive connotation of this word puts Ophelia on a pedestal while

  • 2. Change In Society A great leader once said, I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character (Martin Luther King Jr.). As society continues to expand, the tension between differences inflates even more, causing people to conceal their true self. Although people are able to be who they desire to be, justice continues to be ignored towards many groups of people all over the world. In order for people to protect themselves from the judgement of society and fit into the social norm, many people will obscure their true identity, affecting them in ways they never imagined. One of the most common reasons that people hide their true identity is to avoid ridicule from the community. Even though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This act of denying their wrongs showed how changes in society could have happened, but since social stigmas are strong, people obscured themselves. Another example of people hiding themselves from the tension of change can be seen in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Dolphus Raymond, a wealthy white man who lives with his black mistress and mulatto children, portrays a type of person who uses a different personality to mask himself. While talking to Scout, Dill, and Jem, Dolphus says, It ain t honest, but it s mighty helpful to folks. Secretly, Miss. Finch, I m not much of a drinker, but you see, they could never, never understand that I live like I do because that s the way I want to live (Lee 268). Pretending to be something else in a world that is judgmental is not hard for many people and it can or cannot affect the person. In this case, Dolphus does not mind hiding his true self because of the thoughts people would have towards him. After Scout questions him on why he would cry if he were younger, he replies, Cry about the simple hell people give other people without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give colored people, without even stopping to think they re people too (Lee 269). Although it is ironic that Dolphus, a drunk minded person, would care about such a serious topic since he is not any different than people in society. Many individuals are very aware and hesitant of the judgement that could occur if they changed their morale or way of life; in turn prohibiting the chance for changes in society. While To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930s, there is still racism happening today. For example, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people really struggle. A young male living in Charlotte, North Carolina, named Brandon, identifies as bisexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Passivity vs. Passion in the Perks of Being a Wallflower Passivity Vs. Passion The Perks of Being a Wallflower is by no means a typical narrative. Taking the form of an epistolary novel presented as a series of letters from a boy who calls himself Charlie, but notes that he will change names and minor details so for the sake of his anonymity, the short novel tackles themes such as pedophilia, drug use, depression, abortion and many more complex issues. Stuck in the middle of the mix is a young boy who certainly is not the archetypal protagonist, the novels wallflower. Subjected to witness the hardships of those around him, he rarely goes out on a limb to achieve much gratification for himself, remaining socially dormant instead. However, in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, author Stephen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This novel parallels Charlie s psyche early in the book extremely well in that he is much like the character who is the focus of the book, Boo Radley: shy, misunderstood, and original. In the midst of his conversation over the book, Bill encourages Charlie to stop observing others so much and to start participating. Charlie shares this problematic social symptom with Boo Radley, though he never before had looked at himself as an outsider. This suggestion leads to an uncharacteristic gap of two weeks between letters , which Charlie apologizes for. However in the next letter, Charlie is very excited to share the news that while participating he made two new friends: Sam and Patrick. Patrick is a senior boy in Charlie s shop class, and Sam is Patrick s stepsister whom Charlie sees as being unconventionally beautiful. For the remainder of the novel, Patrick is not only a great friend to Charlie, but also he provides counsel that is very necessary, as Charlie is only just beginning to participate. While in Patrick s pickup truck, the three of them listen to Blackbird by the Beatles. The song features lyrics that say spread your wings and fly, which is essentially what Charlie has set out to do. After having heard the song, Charlie states that it he feels infinite, and that after hearing the song with his two new friends, he felt as if five minutes of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Robert Peel s Nine Principles Sir Robert Peel is an icon in the history of policing, just as is Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement. It is virtually impossible for one to learn police history, or study policing in general for that matter, without gaining knowledge about Peel and his principles. Furthermore, the same could be said for taking a political science class, and not learning the differences between the Democratic and Republican parties. However, Sir Robert Peelis known for other contributions, or destructions, of society s well being, depending on one s perspective. As we all are aware, the emotions and temperaments of individuals are heightened when politics are involved. First and foremost, Peel not only revised and organized the field of policing, he also was the blame for destroying the conservative party in the nineteenth century (Evans, 2006). He perceived himself as an economic reformist which lead to the creation of the Corn Laws (Evans, 2006). He had the ideology that removing and/or reducing taxes would be in the best interest of society. Thus, he went against his party s wishes and removed all tariffs from corn resulting in a crisis (Evans, 2006). At first, the Corn Laws protected corn farmers, then quickly caused the prices of... • 8. Hank Gray Family The Conglomerate Entrepreneur A family s purpose is teach children morals as they are raised. Entrepreneurship is often an overlooked trait that is deeply rooted in family values. An entrepreneur is defined as a person who starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to make money (Merriam Webster). Not everyone is meant, or is willing, to be one, but most successful entrepreneurs have a lot of their good habits originating from their childhoods. Therefore, parents should give opportunities and promote entrepreneurship, if their child is one of the few people cut out to be an entrepreneur. Both of the people I interviewed, Hank Gray and Babe Hyett, were entrepreneurs. Hank Gray was seeking a long term career when he was offered to buyout a machine shop from an older man. After accepting the offer, Hank expected developed the company and eventually named it Gray Machine and Welding. The business has not only provided a great career for him, but also for his son who now manages the company. When I asked Hank what his family contributed to his success, he said his father taught him how to work, be responsible, and be honest. These traits he held true to and his business has grown over the years by word of mouth. Hank is a good example of a person who did his best at everything, and as a result, never had to look for work after he started his business. I personally have taken on entrepreneurial tasks. • 10. The Problem Of Criminal Justice System Since the dawn of man crime has been a problem. Even though most people have some basic sense of what is right and what is wrong, crime still occurs. All the way back to the ancient code of Hammurabi man has tried to understand, classify, and appropriately punish crime. The bible itself includes a detailed set of rules, or commandments, about what was legal and what wasn t. There are many ideas and schools of thought that surround the idea of criminal justice. Initially the main goals of these schools of thought were to classify and punish crimes, however in the recent past we are seeing a shift toward the deterrence and prevention of crime. Early classical, biological, and psychological theories helped shape what is today s criminal justice system. One of the earliest theories that attempted to explain the cause of crime is classical theory. In 1764, Cesare Beccaria published his Essay on Crimes and Punishments. The book, which contained Beccaria s thoughts and observations about the criminal justice system, was important because it was the first of its time to contain thoughts about the philosophy of punishment. According to classical theory, individuals have the ability to exercise free will and due to this should be held responsible for their actions. Crime is a result of rational decision making where the criminal must decide if the possible punishment for the crime is worth the potential gain. Over two hundred years ago, the founding fathers of this great nation signed their names to the Declaration of Independence, sending a message to Great Britain that they were tired of being subservient to a monarch who had no respect for his people. These extraordinary men understood the concept of liberty and embraced it with great passion. They were all too familiar with the consequences of a government with excess power. On October 23, 2001, Representative F. James Sensenbrenner from the ninth district of Wisconsin introduced the USA PATRIOT Actof 2001 to Congress ( Bill ). The bill contained many surveillance provisions that the Justice Department had submitted to Congress in the past ( Seeking ). The Bush administration used this time to bully Congress into passing the USA PATRIOT Act. The administration insinuated that any future attacks were going to be blamed on members of Congress who stood against the bill ( Surveillance ).Unfortunately, many members of Congress panicked under the pressure of the circumstances and voted in favor of this unconstitutional bill. Despite the facts that the act had minimal discussion or debate and contained many provisions that attacked the rights of citizens, the complex, 342 page bill passed with a vote of ninety eight to one in the Senate and 356 to sixty six in the House of Representatives (Cornehls 78). On October 26, 2001, just forty five days after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 became Public Law Number 107 56 with the signature of former President George W. Early in the 2nd half with a 35 0 lead over Akron, Barkley took a counter handoff to the right. These working environments are important examples of how child labor can be exploited in Canada, as well as in other nations that arte more exposed to the powerful financial controllers of transitional garment corporations. • 14. Military Recruitment In High Schools As I m sure you know, military recruitment in high schools has been a hot topic ever since the No Child Left Behind Act passed in 2001. According to the NCLB, all high schools that receive government funding must provide military recruiters the same access to secondary school students as is provided generally to post secondary educational institutions or to prospective employers of those students (No Child Left Behind Act of 2001). And unfortunately, any schoolthat refuses this puts their funding in jeopardy. Yet many still strongly disagree with this mandate and want it revoked, begging the question: Is there a way to regulate this type of recruitment without eliminating it completely? Some people such as yourself, who do not support military recruiting in high schools, worry that military recruiters prey on the poor students and persuade them to join by offering things such as signing bonuses and the promise of free college. Admittedly those things might be offered, although not specifically for those of a lower income household, but for all recruits, and they are not intended to be used to trap those students into the Military service. In a study done by the Center for Naval Analyses under the Department of Defense it was found that when the nation is divided into five strata of affluence , from poorest to wealthiest areas, most recruits hail from the three middle income brackets while the poorest (under $36,74 a year) and the wealthiest (over $76,981 a year) brackets are under represented (CNA 2014). Often they labeled unfit to perform many jobs outside of child bearing and domestic chores, even considered less intelligent than men are. In the past, this attitude translated into fewer jobs for women, below average pay, and poor working conditions. This continues today, despite the many great advances women have made in the past 100 years. This is evident in the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) fields, where a man is far more likely to get the position than a woman is. The rate of males EMTs compared to femaleEMTs was a ration of 8 1 in 2010. During my research, I came across a website which states, Female Medics are Deadly! ... Women are emotional creatures, but their emotions do not override common sense. Typically, women have to study more, and work harder than a man to achieve their position of power. According to the Harvard Business Review Women, still face tougher odds not only getting into, but also staying in the C suite. (CEO). • 16. Richard Linklater s Boyhood Was A Super Hit American... Paper Two: Boyhood Director and producer, Richard Linklater s Boyhood was a super hit American drama film that was released in the United States in July 11, 2014. Boyhood, to this date is still one of my most favorite movies. It is taken place over a course of ten to eleven years (2002 2013). It is about a boynamed Mason Evans Jr. who lives with his older sister Samantha Evans, and his single mother Olivia Evans. Mason s father, Mason Evans Sr. had great impact to Mason Jr. throughout his childhood. What s spectacular about this movie is that the same actors and actresses were used all throughout the time span. Mason grew up how many ordinary boys do with divorced parents. His mother would get into relationships with other men, but never choose to go back with Mason s father. The family moves to Houston and his father would sometimes come visit and take him and his sister out to places. It would be easier for Mason if his father and mother got back together which unfortunately doesn t happen. You could say that Mason struggles with life as he grows up. He goes through family problems, financial problems, peer pressure, relationship problems, breakups, etc. Now, many teenage boys experience at least one of these problems. That s just life. Mason doesn t have to go through too much financial problems, just probably one main one every family goes through financial problems once in a while. • 17. The Purchasing Power Parity ( Ppp ) And I Will Divide This... Introduction: A quote from Adam Smith s book shows the distinguishes between money and wealth : It would be too ridiculous to go about seriously to prove that wealth does not consist in money, or in gold and silver; but in what money purchases, and is valuable only for purchasing. This quote means the money purchases seems to be more important than money itself, in other words, this view is consistent with many economists who think the purchasing power is important. There is two type of fundamental international financial relationships: first is the Purchasing power parity which occurs in goods and services market, the second is the interest parity which occurs in the money market. Both relationships state the association among interest rate, inflation rates, and change in exchange rates. In this paper, I will only focus on discussing the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and I will divide this paper into four sections. In section 1, I will come up with the definition of PPP and other theories behind it. For section 2, I will briefly introduce the absolute PPP and relative PPP and empirical evidence on PPP. Section 3 explains empirical test of PPP in practice and the problem of PPP. For the last section, there are conclusion and remarks. Maddox signals Data on it and has a disagreement that the technology perhaps is used to establish a force of androids that would support their search farther. Everybody who sees this episode realizes that Data appears and operates like a natural and ordinary human. A dualism aspect is presented when Captain Picard mentions that he thinks that Data has the option to say no to being disassembled. According to Hasker (1983), Dualism begins by taking quite seriously that human beings have both physical properties and mental properties (Husker, 1983). He continues by observing that this is opposed to other assumptions like that of idealism and behaviorism which weaken the two together into one. (Hasker, 1983). • 20. Politics As A Method Of Resolving Conflict Essay It is important to consider that politics is a contested concept with numerous differing views and perspectives presented to us. These different perspectives can offer similar perspectives on the concept of politics and what it means; whilst other times the views are strongly contrasting creating debate on the subject. The main examples of the differing views of politicsare as follows: Politics as the art of government; which is the more traditional view of politics. Politics as public affairs; a view which focuses on public institutions rather than civil society. Politics as compromise and consensus; a view which sees politics as a method of resolving conflict. The final view of politics is the view that politics is power; this more cynical view of politics focuses more on the idea of power within the state. This essay will serve to set out these definitions; compare and contrast them with one another to hopefully ascertain a detailed idea of the concept of politics. To begin we should examine what is commonly seen as the traditional view of politics: politics as the art of government. This point of view suggests that the study of politics is solely the study of government, the administrative arm of the state, more specifically the legislature and executive branches with a lesser focus on the judiciary wing. Government can be seen in the following way: ... institutions responsible for making collective decisions for society. More narrowly, government refers to the top ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It starts with mystery tension because threatening things are happening to peter and he does not know and it is surprize tension because we did not expect the spider to lash out at peter. In this scene the mystery and surprise is also emphasised through the music used. Another example Of tension of mystery is when They are on the excursion looking at the spider, Mary Jane says there is only fourteen spiders when the woman said that there should be fifteen. The canal that links the waters of Lake Erie to the west of the Hudson River in the east, is the Erie Canal. The Erie Canal is an example of Henry Clay s vision to harmonize and balance the country s agriculture, economy and industries. The building of this canal was first proposed in 1808 and was eventually completed in 1824. At the time, New York State Governor De Witt Clinton envisioned a canal that would link Albany to Buffalo. The idea was criticized by some and given the name Clinton s ditch . The idea turned out to be a critical turning point for the country since it opened up many new possibilities. In the early 19th century the transportation of goods between the east and west was expensive and time consuming. The normal way of transportation before the canal, was by horse drawn carriages. The story s set place in a railway restaurant involving two individuals that are, apparently involved in a less than stable relationship. Contemplating the outcomes of an event that neither of them is really sure that he or she wants to embark on, is the mystery Hemingway reveals. Both individuals are leaning toward different directions, but is not sure the direction they desire is the one they truly believe is right. The uncertainty of their interactions is the viewpoint of the story. Hemingway is opening our eyes to the fact that relationships are uncertain, but there must be a common ground for both parties to stand on. The setting in which the story takes place emphasizes the relationship of the man and the woman in the story. Hemingway writes: On this side there was no shade and no trees and the station was between two lines of rails in the sun. Close against the side of the station there was the warm showdown of the building and a curtain, made of strings of bamboo beads , hung across the open door in the bar to keep flies out (HLWE 475). The type of journey the families endure follows the path of rising and then falling that occur throughout their time together. Little Miss Sunshine is an effective contemporary version of the archetypal journey when compared to As I Lay Dying because of the similar archetypal events, characters and symbolism. The events in Little Miss Sunshine allow the story to be an effective archetypal journey because each event adds more to the plot, and the plot allows the story to unfold into the archetypal journey they endure. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In As I Lay Dying, the Bundren family uses a wagon to get to Jefferson, but the wagon proves to be a symbol of the family s dysfunction. During the wagon ride Jewel refuses to sit with the family in the wagon and rides his horse a mile further then the rest of the family (Faulkner 108). The wagon proves to be a symbol of dysfunction because the family can work together as a whole or even come together as a whole. The mechanic tells the family that You get enough people you just get behind there and push. Just push it up to ten, fifteen miles and hour, and you just go. Everybody jump inside, and you just go! (Arndt 37). Shortly after, the family works together to get the bus moving and their journey continues. The VW bus in Little Miss Sunshine shows to be the family s connection to one another and allows the family to come together and work as a whole. This bus is a symbol of the family s function as a whole, but also represent the family s individual problems because each person in the car is going through their own battle, Olive winning the pageant, Dwayne trying to get to flight school, Richard trying to make a business deal and Frank trying to get over a past lover. There are many incidents in Little Miss Sunshine when the literary device foreshadowing is used. For example, when the car breaks down early on, the family should have used that as a sign that this is just the beginning of the problems that they will face throughout the journey. Similarly, in As I Lay Dying the Bundrens had many signs that foreshadowed into the horrible journey that they faced. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie is basically played off the imagination of the two child characters in the movie. The lighting technique contributed to the film as a whole, by allowing it to be colorful and full of imagination just the way the writer wanted the film to become on the screen. A favorite scene, towards the end of the movie, of mine is when the Banks family goes to the park to fly their kite as a family. As the director shows a shot of the entire family, the Banks family is in the center of the frame. As well, the objects that are surrounding the Banks allow for a balanced frame. The audience members feel, for once in the film, that the Banks family has finally come together and everyone can feel the love the all have for one another which is exactly the feeling the director wanted to evoke from the audience. Another example, that goes in the Mise en Scene of Mary Poppins, is the proxemic patterns between Mary and Bert. The reader follows as Dombek reveals corruption between human relationships and the way we interact with world. She exposes what we are all afraid to admit modern values and morals. Kristen Dombek presses us with the question of why we do the things we do and live the way we live. Readers are forced to question if they are slaves to the world around them. Do we succumb to the social and economical pressure demanded from us, and if so, will we allow that to happen for the generations after us? Although alienation is something that roots from ourselves as individuals, recognize the factors in our lives that this originates from. Question the relationships people have established in their own neighborhood, or if a prosaic office job is fulfilling. When we serve our economy but it does not do the same for us, the symbiosis or harmony in which live in is disrupted. Will we make a change for the beauty we desire to create and the life we lead in oppression today or tomorrow? The Fed implemented several strategies in an attempt to stabilize the economy by first targeting the struggling Financial Industry.
