Electronic Business
• The New Business Environment Domain
• The Internet and blending of Technology
• Transformation of the Business Environment
• Global Village
• Economics of Rise of the Digital Technology
The Digital Revolution & Society
• Social networks & digital devices are used by
government, businesses, society, family & friends
• Digital Transformation: rethinking what customer
value most, creating for competitive
differentiation.
• Companies focus on reshaping customer value
and creating operating models that take
advantage of whats newly possible for
competitive differentiation
Operating Model
The operating model serves as a blueprint for how
resources are organized and operated to get critical
work done. It encompasses decisions around the
shape and size of the business, where to draw the
boundaries for each line of business, how people
work together within and across these boundaries,
how the corporate center will add value to the
business units, and what norms and behaviors
should be encouraged.
• Structure involves drawing appropriate boundaries for lines of business
and defi ning shared services, centers of expertise and other
coordinating mechanisms that allow a company to leverage scale and
expertise. It also specifies the size and shape of the organization with
indicative resource levels and locations. Think of this high-level org
chart as the “hardware” of the operating model, with the next four
dimensions serving as the “software” that makes the hardware run.
• Accountabilities describe the roles and responsibilities of the main
organizational entities and a clear, value-adding role for the corporate
center. There should be clear guidelines for the roles each
organizational unit will play in critical decisions. A rewards framework
linked to these accountabilities reinforces strong execution.
• Governance refers to executive forums and management processes
that yield high-quality decisions on strategic priorities, resource
allocation and business performance management. A management
dashboard with the key metrics keeps the focus on the company’s top
priorities.
• Ways of working describe the expected cultural norms for how
people collaborate, especially across the boundaries between
functions or teams. This dimension goes beyond communicating
values such as “trust” and “respect” to being explicit about which
behaviors make for effective decisions and execution. Establishing
an appropriate decision-making style—whether through consensus,
a single point of accountability or another approach—provides an
important context for behaviors.
• Capabilities refer to how the company combines people, process
and technology in a repeatable way to deliver desired outcomes.
Where capabilities lead the design, all other aspects of the
operating model must support them. In many other situations, the
redesign looks first at structure and accountabilities that can only
operate with the appropriate talent, processes and systems in
place. In either situation, the elements are highly interdependent
The Digital Society World
• Customer are changing, Business models are
evolving
• New Organizational structures are emerging to
support new ways of working, partnership
between business and technology are
converging to become agile (quick),
innovative, social, mobile and total customer
focused.
The Digital Economy
• Digital economy is one collective term for all economic transactions
that occur on the internet. It is also known as the Web Economy or
the Internet Economy. With the advent of technology and the
process of globalization, the digital and traditional economies are
merging into one. That is because it can
have significant competitiveness and productivity-boosting
opportunities related to access to digital products and services that
help optimize processes and production, reduce transaction costs,
and transform supply chains.
• The digital economy refers to a broad range of economic activities
that use digitized information and knowledge as key factors of
production. ... The digitization of the economy creates benefits and
efficiencies as digital technologies drive innovation and
fuel job opportunities and economic growth.
The Digital Enterprise
• A digital enterprise is an organization that
uses technology as a competitive advantage in
its internal and external operations. As
information technology (IT) has reshaped the
infrastructure and operations
of enterprises, digital enterpriseis one where
all the business relationship with customers,
suppliers and employees are digitally enabled
and mediated,
Virtual Community
• A Virtual Community is a network which work within a
social network of individual by any specific media and
which have no limit about geographical area as well as
political restriction. The Vital aim of virtual community is to
achieve socialization i.e. a person may be share his feelings,
his opinion and his knowledge without any boundaries.
• As we know that the most popular communities of
exchange view, ideas and achieve socialization is virtual
community which consist of various online communities.
This Type of communities is used for a variety of social and
professional group. From this communities were promoted
as the business model in E-business or E-Commerce.
Online Community
• An online community is a group of people
with common interests who use
the Internet (web sites, email, instant
messaging, etc) to communicate, work
together and pursue their interests over time.
• Community of Sweden. One of the most beautifully designed websites with a very strong
community and a great use of game mechanics. Tommy Sollen is a community genius.
• 2. SK-Gaming. If you play games online, you’re probably a member of this near 1m strong gaming
community. It’s a hugely popular community with plenty of content about the community. Possibly
the best use of game mechanics out there.
• 3. PoliceOne. A great example of building a community for a more difficult group. Most of the
community anyone can access, but cops (once verified through their precinct) can talk in private
areas. This community appeals to cops by offering great advice and satisfies affiliation needs well.
• 4. Harringay Online. You don’t need strong technical expertise to build a community for your local
neighbourhood.
• 5. Texans Talk. You can pick almost any NFL team and find a strong online community. The usual
features are 1) It’s unofficial 2) It uses a very simple blog/forum 3) Very clear line between the top
members and everyone else.
• 6. Gamer’s Voice. An active community using a Facebook group to tackle anti-video games policies
and media. A good example of what a Facebook group can be.
• 7. Barista Exchange. The world’s top online community for Barista’s. Study the types of
conversations carefully, you can use these in almost any community of practice.
• 8. Prisoner Life. Huge boundaries between insiders and outsiders. Easy to find affiliation and
develop relationships within this community.
• 9. 4Chan. Best example of insiders entirely getting it and outsiders not having a clue. This
community has it’s own language, culture, rituals and many aspects that make a community
strong. What happens when you relax the moderation rules?
• 10. Kiva. Excellent use of sub-groups to stimulate activity, good inclusion of game mechanics and
it’s all for a good cause.
Defining E-Commerce
• E-Commerce can be defined as any form of
business transaction in which the parties
interact electronically rather than by physical
exchange of documents or direct meetings
amongst the officials.
• E- Commerce is simply doing the business
online.
• E-Commerce can be described as buying and
selling of goods and services over the internet.

DIGITAL BUSINESS MBA SEM I chapter 1

  • 2. Electronic Business • The New Business Environment Domain • The Internet and blending of Technology • Transformation of the Business Environment • Global Village • Economics of Rise of the Digital Technology
  • 3. The Digital Revolution & Society • Social networks & digital devices are used by government, businesses, society, family & friends • Digital Transformation: rethinking what customer value most, creating for competitive differentiation. • Companies focus on reshaping customer value and creating operating models that take advantage of whats newly possible for competitive differentiation
  • 4. Operating Model The operating model serves as a blueprint for how resources are organized and operated to get critical work done. It encompasses decisions around the shape and size of the business, where to draw the boundaries for each line of business, how people work together within and across these boundaries, how the corporate center will add value to the business units, and what norms and behaviors should be encouraged.
  • 5. • Structure involves drawing appropriate boundaries for lines of business and defi ning shared services, centers of expertise and other coordinating mechanisms that allow a company to leverage scale and expertise. It also specifies the size and shape of the organization with indicative resource levels and locations. Think of this high-level org chart as the “hardware” of the operating model, with the next four dimensions serving as the “software” that makes the hardware run. • Accountabilities describe the roles and responsibilities of the main organizational entities and a clear, value-adding role for the corporate center. There should be clear guidelines for the roles each organizational unit will play in critical decisions. A rewards framework linked to these accountabilities reinforces strong execution. • Governance refers to executive forums and management processes that yield high-quality decisions on strategic priorities, resource allocation and business performance management. A management dashboard with the key metrics keeps the focus on the company’s top priorities.
  • 6. • Ways of working describe the expected cultural norms for how people collaborate, especially across the boundaries between functions or teams. This dimension goes beyond communicating values such as “trust” and “respect” to being explicit about which behaviors make for effective decisions and execution. Establishing an appropriate decision-making style—whether through consensus, a single point of accountability or another approach—provides an important context for behaviors. • Capabilities refer to how the company combines people, process and technology in a repeatable way to deliver desired outcomes. Where capabilities lead the design, all other aspects of the operating model must support them. In many other situations, the redesign looks first at structure and accountabilities that can only operate with the appropriate talent, processes and systems in place. In either situation, the elements are highly interdependent
  • 7.
  • 8. The Digital Society World • Customer are changing, Business models are evolving • New Organizational structures are emerging to support new ways of working, partnership between business and technology are converging to become agile (quick), innovative, social, mobile and total customer focused.
  • 9. The Digital Economy • Digital economy is one collective term for all economic transactions that occur on the internet. It is also known as the Web Economy or the Internet Economy. With the advent of technology and the process of globalization, the digital and traditional economies are merging into one. That is because it can have significant competitiveness and productivity-boosting opportunities related to access to digital products and services that help optimize processes and production, reduce transaction costs, and transform supply chains. • The digital economy refers to a broad range of economic activities that use digitized information and knowledge as key factors of production. ... The digitization of the economy creates benefits and efficiencies as digital technologies drive innovation and fuel job opportunities and economic growth.
  • 10. The Digital Enterprise • A digital enterprise is an organization that uses technology as a competitive advantage in its internal and external operations. As information technology (IT) has reshaped the infrastructure and operations of enterprises, digital enterpriseis one where all the business relationship with customers, suppliers and employees are digitally enabled and mediated,
  • 11. Virtual Community • A Virtual Community is a network which work within a social network of individual by any specific media and which have no limit about geographical area as well as political restriction.
