Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Rhymes
• Rhymes are the first learning portion every human being
come across once they step into the education.
• The rhymes are framed in such a way, that increase
number of skills among the children.
• Few rhymes tells the moral value, few tells about the
numbers and several other factors are ingrained in the
rhymes.
• The rhymes are narrated in many means in order to
make the students understand about the context
ingrained in it. Some of the narration methodologies are
explained below:
3. Action
• This is the spontaneous most attention grabbing
mode of narration.
• Doing just the actions and explaining the
rhymes to the children increases their listening
skill.
• There are several new unknown action words,
which the children should be aware of.
• While doing actions, they get to know the apt
word for certain actions.
4.
5. Video
• This is the trending technique followed in the
present trend.
• The animated video is the best choice with number
of inspiring characters in them.
• the minutes can also be extended by showcasing
different characters saying the same song in a single
video.
• This video repetition(https://youtu.be/sDKkwGo-
KRo) makes the children easily grab the poem.
6.
7. Song
• As the name suggestions, rhymes will be in the
form of tonal nature, though to add little more
spice to it, the rhyme is sung by the narrator in
different tones.
• The tones may be anything but while composing
the tone, the narrator should be care to keep the
mind of the children stay in that song track.
• Repeating the song will create the enthusiastic
circumstance and boost up the children mind.
8.
9. Audio
• Instead of making the song live with the action
accompanied with the song, the narrators can take the
different attempt of recording the song.
• Here the song can be accompanied with the light
background musical effects with clarity in the lyrics.
• This enhances the listening skill and understanding skills
among the children.
10.
11. Graphic Picture
• The children as the beginner could grab the things
written in the picture.
• Once they are familiar with the rhyme, they get
inspired with the colorful and attractive poster.
• This makes them remember about the rhyme
frequently.
12.
13. • These are some of the ways attempted to
present the video efficiently to the children.
• Whatever the type of song may be, they reach
the children only when they are presented
with high quality.
• Check the below link which tells more about
narration process
