Aramid fiber are one of the high thermal high performance(HT-HP) modern fibers that are potentially of interest in civil, defence, automobile industries, and Technical textile fields. Being characterized by high strength, high stiffness, low creep and resistance to corrosion un-like carbon or glass fiber. However the aramid fiber are frequently used with out resin impregnation to resistance of fire.
Eg.- Kevlar, Nomex, Twaron, and Technora are commercial name of aramid fiber.

4. Aramids are generally prepared by the
reaction between an amine group and a
carboxylic acid halide group.
nNH2-Ar-COCl → -(NH-Ar-CO)n- + nHCl
5. Aromatic polyamides were first introduced in
commercial applications in the early 1960s,
with a meta-aramid fiber produced by DuPont
company of USA under the trade name
Nomex. After that Kevlar(para-aramid) has
produced. Meta-aramid has also produced in
the Netherlands and Japan by Teijin under the
trade name Teijin-conex, New Star and a
variant of meta-aramid in France by Kermel
under the trade name Kermel.

12. Although composites of other fibres have now
supplanted aramid composites as having the highest
specific strengths, aramids still offer combinations of
properties not available with any other fibre.
i.e., aramids offer high specific strength,
tough-ness and creep resistance, combined with
moderate cost. However, the applications of aramid
composites continue to be limited by their poor
compressive and off-axis properties and in some
applications, their tendency to absorb water.
Nonetheless, aramids will continue to be the fibre of
choice where properties such as outstanding impact
resistance combined with creep resistance are critical.
