This document summarizes dietary fiber, including its introduction, types, daily intake recommendations, functions, sources, and role in diseases. It discusses the two types of fiber - soluble and insoluble fiber - and their different properties. Sources of fiber are listed such as fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. The functions of fiber include preventing constipation, lowering cholesterol, and regulating blood sugar levels. Diseases fiber may help with include heart disease, diabetes, constipation, colon cancer, and weight control.
Dietary fiber or roughage is the indigestible portion of food derived from plants. It has two main components: Soluble fiber, which dissolves in water, is readily fermented in the colon into gases and physiologically active byproducts, and can be prebiotic and viscous.
The benefits and risks associated with functional foods and nutraceuticals are presented in the presentation. Also, way-forward is captured in light of the risks.

Obesity is a major problems for all aged group even maximum children are suffering from it. Peoples take wrong steps and unbalanced diet to reduce weight quickly. There, some facts and myths related to weight loss ,are shown.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder, thought to affect between 4%–8% of women of reproductive age. Due to a lack of awareness, and the dramatic variation in the signs and symptoms between individuals, a large number of women may have PCOS without being at all aware of it. Unless help is sought for common symptoms (including oily skin and recurring acne; irregular, infrequent or absent periods; excess facial and body hair growth; head hair loss or thinning; weight gain) a formal diagnosis may never be made and issues can persist unmanaged until menopause. PCOS is most commonly diagnosed in women hoping to become pregnant, but who experience fertility issues as a result of irregular ovulation or miscarriage. In this webinar, Dr Nina Bailey PhD outlines the key mechanisms in the pathophysiology of PCOS, the signs and symptoms that should trigger further investigation, and the key nutritional strategies that can be adopted to help women manage the condition.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

body.
• It has several roles to play in the body.
4. TYPES
SOLUBLE FIBRES:
•. Found mainly in plant cells.
• Soluble in water to form a gel like material.
• It help in maintaining the cholesterol level of body.
• It make you feel full for longer period of time .
• Sources : oats, bran , lentils, vegetables, fruits etc.
5. INSOLUBLE FIBRES:
• Found in plant cell walls ( Cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin).
• It prevent constipation by adding bulk to stool( increase it’s weight and size)
.• It control problems related to bowl movement .
• Sources: Whole wheate bread, brown rice , in seeds etc.
7. FUNCTIONS
• It help in preventing constipation by increasing size and weight of stool.
• It prevent cardiovascular diseases as it maintains cholesterol level and the
reduces low density lipoprotein cholesterol in the body.

ROLE OF DIETARY FIBRES IN DISEASES
10. • prevention of cardiovascular diseases by lowering blood
cholesterol
• Whole grainprotect against heart diseases
• Enhance the secretion of faecal steroids
• Soluble viscous fibres are hypocholestrolemic
CORONARYHEART DISEASE
11. • Rich fibre diets lowers insulin requirement
• Soluble fibres such as pectins ,gums increase intestinal transit
time , delay gastric emptying , slow glucose absorption
• Including legumes and grains helps in lower blood glucose
• Fenugreek contains trigonelline reduces blood sugar level
DIABETES MELLITUS
12. • Fibre prevents constipation .
• Inulin present in onion inc. stool frequency
• Diverticulitis due to chronic constipation
• Piles (haemorrhoids) , irritable bowel syndrome
CONSTIPATION
13. • The fibre dilutes bile acids or binds to it thereby preventing
its role in mutation and cell proliferation .
• Fermentation of dietary fibre results in production of
butyrate which is antiineoplastic
• Consumption of FOS increase beneficial bifido bacteria .
• Lignin act as a free radical scavenger ,thus reducing the
risk of cancer
COLON CANCER
14. • High fibre diet promote weight loss
• Fibre increase satiety ,feeling of fullness
• Fibre reduces the absorption efficiency of small intestine .
WEIGHT CONTROL
15. • Temporary bouts of abdominal discomfort
• Gas, flatulence
• Hinders the absorption of nutrients inside the body
•Diarrhea , obstruct GI tract
EFFECTS OF EXCESSIVE FIBRE INTAKE
16. •Dietary fibre increases the weight and size of your stool and
softens it.
• We have discussed the importance , types of dietary fibre ,
sources of dietary fibre , their functions , roles in diseases
