At first it seemed as relations were going well between the Soviets and America,
with both parties agreeing to let the Soviet reclaim land lost by Russia in the Russo
Japanese War, as well as a new international organization known as the United
Nations. The United Nations was the biggest thing to come out of the Yalta
Conference because of the disagreements that would precede this agreement. One of
the first disagreements was in the disagreement between the Soviets and other allied
nations about the future status of the Polish government and whether it would be
democratic or communist. However the government was already pro communist
because of the occupation of Poland by the Soviets and installed the Lublin Poles.

As stated in Ewing and Maher (2014, p.2), there are two types of approaches to
teaching phonics: synthetic and analytic. A synthetic phonics approach uses
individual letters and their sounds and gradually builds on the number introduced
until they can be formed into words. An analytical approach to phonics uses whole

For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at
the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the
talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only
concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive
to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex
as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the
concert was particularly awe inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that
much of the audience consisted of friends of the composersand/or performers. I went

This was a fairly simple and straightforward piece. It started out slow with small
building crescendos, which became more and more powerful. It had a dark,
moody sound and I think that I was played in a minor key. There were many
reverberating note to convey this eerie and sad tone. It became progressively more
dramatic and intense, constantly repeated with stronger tone color. The fifth piece
was called Epileptical Bipolarity by Chris Wheeler. The piece was written for
trumpet with a piano accompaniment. It had three movements; the first was
centered mainly on the trumpet. It started with low notes and a slow tempo and
built to a lively and quick expression of joy and energy. The second movement was
played with the trumpet muted. It was much, much slower in tempo and used
much lower notes, played within a very small range. The third movement starts out
livelier and continues with an upbeat sound. The melody seems almost
recognizable and is, therefore, comforting to listen to after the sad second
movement. Then the melody stops abruptly and the piano joins in to finish the

Design Elements: While building this bridge, the first design element, was the deck
design. We took around one horizontal length of vertical popsicle sticks and lined
them side by side, and repeated. Later we connected them together with a horizontal
popsicle stick. I then took two lines and placed them ontop of eachother to create a
flat surface. This way it will carry a lot of weight, and it will also run smoothly. After
this I created trusses to put on the side, so that the weight would be evenly distributed
amongst the bridge, instead of all the weight on one part. This would help stop the
bridge from immediately bending once weights were put into the bucket. To make
the trusses I had to take popsicle sticks and glue them into a triangle shape, and then
glue them together from the bottom. This way they wouldn t break apart. I then
doubled them up so that it would be able to sustain more weight. Under the bridge I
placed a lot of beams, so that the bridge would hold together from the bottom, instead
of immediately bending once I placed a weight. I made the beam from gluing ... Show

construction of American national identity through its symbolic representation of the
USA and of foreigners. Released a year after World War Two, the film acknowledges

anxieties at ease by portraying America as a hero figure.
The representation of characters within this film contribute to the construction of
American national identity. The film engages in archetypical characterization, and

of initiation does not refer precisely to something of terror. The protagonist of Araby
faces experiences for which his previous experiences had not prepared him. In this

childhood to adolescence. For this reason, Araby, by James Joyce, should be
considered a story of initiation.

Concentration Camps Of The Second Anglo-Boer War
One of many forms of oppression the British practiced during the Second Anglo
Boer War was the use of concentration camps. Both blacks and whites were placed in
the camps, and were required to perform unpaid labor. However, the black and white
camps were segregated, and the treatment of the inmates in the black concentration
camps was vastly different from the white camps. Less rations were given, and less
maintenance was performed on the camps, leading to starvation and poor living
conditions. Even after the war, when the white concentration camps had been
transferred to civilian control, the black concentration camps still remained under
military command (Pretorius). Though many Boers and British believed the war to
be a white man s war , blacks continued to be segregated and oppressed in order to
profit off of their labor and gain advantage in battle. Many blacks fought on the side

Coming from Missouri to California, I have experienced His magnificent creation
in new ways that I never have before. His ability and creativity are on display
everywhere you look, especially around the coast. It s unfathomable to think that
he not only has the power to create this earth, but the intricate care to control the

I recently had the privilege of spending a week with a community called Furaha
Community Center that provides education, social services, and community action
efforts within a slum community called Haruma located in Nairobi, Kenya. The
community of Haruma has roughly 500,000 people living in the equivalent of 12
square blocks. The communitysuffers from poor sanitation, rampant disease, and
violence. Furaha Community Center serves the poorest and the sickest of the
community in efforts to provide food, education, micro loans, and social services.
The community is defined by some outsiders as poor, sick, dirty, lazy, disease
ridden, gang infested, violent, sexually deviant, uneducated (education is not free
in Kenya so many families cannot afford to send their children to school) and
beyond hope. Although some of these descriptors are partially true, I found the
community to be generous, supportive, hard working, resilient, and joyful. To live
in Haruma and be a member of the community you have a difficult life. Tribal
hierarchy defines your ability to obtain opportunities to better yourself. Religion is a
source of comfort, but is also used by some religious leaders as a way gain power and
influence over the desperate. Most people work as day laborers and live day to day.
They often do not eat every day because they cannot find work. Fires, building
collapses, gang activity, and violence are a part of everyday life. Diseases spread
