Essay On Ancient Egypt
Crafting an essay on Ancient Egypt can be both a fascinating and challenging endeavor. While
the subject matter is rich with historical significance, cultural nuances, and archaeological
marvels, it also demands a meticulous approach to research and analysis.
One of the complexities lies in navigating through the extensive timeline of Ancient Egypt,
spanning thousands of years. Selecting relevant periods, events, and figures becomes a delicate
task, requiring a careful balance between depth and brevity. The multifaceted nature of the
civilization, from its grand pyramids and monumental structures to intricate hieroglyphics and
religious beliefs, adds layers of intricacy to the essay.
Researching primary and secondary sources is essential, but it can be overwhelming due to the
vast amount of scholarly work available. Sifting through historical accounts, deciphering ancient
texts, and interpreting archaeological findings are intellectual challenges that demand a keen eye
for detail and a discerning mind.
Furthermore, the cultural and societal aspects of Ancient Egypt necessitate an understanding of
their unique worldview and values. Attempting to capture the essence of daily life, religious
practices, and socio-political structures requires an empathetic exploration of the past,
transcending mere factual enumeration.
Constructing a coherent narrative while avoiding an overwhelming abundance of information is
a delicate art. Striking the right balance between academic rigor and engaging storytelling is a
constant struggle. Additionally, synthesizing diverse perspectives and theories on certain aspects
of Ancient Egypt can add another layer of complexity.
In conclusion, writing an essay on Ancient Egypt is no small feat. It requires a blend of historical
acumen, analytical prowess, and creative finesse. The endeavor is not just about recounting facts
but also about bringing the ancient civilization to life in a way that captivates the reader.
If you find yourself overwhelmed with the task, it's worth noting that assistance is available.

Guernica By Pablo Picasso
Guernica Guernica was painted in 1937 by Pablo Picasso. It stands at 11 6 tall and
25 6 wide and is considered one of the most powerful paintings ever created. The
work depicts the bombing of the city Guernica in Spain. The painting is a great piece
of art because of its symbolism, solemn mood, and it contains many artistic elements.
Don t change sentence structure at the end. Change contains many artistic elements
to fit in with the rest of the list.
Tensions were high in 1937 in Europe with World War Two on the rise. Spainwas
controlled by Francisco Franco, a friend of Hitler. Picasso was born in Spain and was
devastated to see it be ruled by a fascist who has taken over the country. Hitler,
preparing for a world war, was making new weapons and asked Franco if he could
test them on a spanish city. On April 26, 1937, the German Condor Legionbombed
the city of Guernica in Northern Spain, all with the permission of Franco. The
bombing killed over a thousand people and left the world shocked. Picasso s oil
painting on canvas captures both the reactions of the public and the pain of the
innocent civilians who died. Guernica was originally panned by critics in the world.
Many people criticized Picasso s style of painting the event; calling it an unrealistic
painting, and a dream of a madman. Actually, most people wouldn t have known that
the painting was about the bombing if there wasn t a title. This is because Picasso
had a very abstract style with a lot of

discussed how people who sell do it yourself legal kits and form sellers can legally
operate when conducted by nonlawyers. The case explains the procedures and the
legal practice to lawfully operate. This case liberalized the former laws by allowing
nonlawyers to sell printed material purporting to explain legal practice and

10 Things I Hate About You Essay
Compare and contrast the Minola sisters from the taming of the shrew with the strath
fords sisters from 10 things I hate about you
INTRODUCTION:
The comedy The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare is set in
Padua, Italy, where noble lady Katerina Minola is known for her difficult character
and brazen personality. The younger daughter of Baptista. The lovely Bianca proves
herself the opposite of her sister, Kate, at the beginning of the play: she is soft
spoken, sweet, and unassuming. The modern version known as 10 things I hate about
you where older sister Kat Stratford plays an opinionated and angry outcast in her
last year of high school who just wants to be her own person. Bianca is Kat s younger
sister, she is presented as a very beautiful, popular girl who wares designer clothing

The differences between Kat Stratford and Kate Minola inspire how the audience
understands the play and its causal themes. In the film, 10 Things I Hate About You,
Kat Stratford plays an opinionated and angry outcast in her last year of high school
who just wants to be her own person. Others see her as a shrew because of her strong
voice and how she constantly strives to be different from the other students. Kate
Minola in The Taming of the Shrew, however, is angry and bitter because of her
family and the low role a woman must play in society. People see Kate as a shrew
because women in Shakespeare s time were not allowed to voice their opinions
when any important decisions were made, even when they were right. When
observing both versions of the same story, it becomes clear that Kat Stratford is a
more developed character because of how she uses her stereotype as a shrew, her
relationships with the other characters, and her deeply set
Act One of Romeo and Juliet Essay
Act One immediately engages the audience. Do you agree with this statement?
How does Shakespeare achieve this? Act One of Romeo and Juliet by William
Shakespeare does indeed immediately engage the audience. Shakespeare does this
by using several language techniques to create an interesting opening scene.
Shakespeare uses humour, action and romance all in Act One and it is this variation
that keeps the audience s attention. The play begins with a prologue that is written
in the form of a sonnet. The Prologue gives a summary of the play but does not
give away too much of the plot, in order to keep the suspense. Shakespeare tells of
the great tragedy that will follow. The sonnet form is used because it is more

They are usually dressed in bright, colourful costume, they walk jauntily and they
talk jovially between themselves to create an immediate light hearted, happy air.
The two servants poke fun at each other and use sexual innuendo to create an
immediate sense of humour in the play. They begin by using wordplay to create
humour on the first four lines and then move on to boasting to one another about
their fighting skills. Sampson says, I strike quickly, being moved to mean that he is
quick to fight when he is angry. From line ten, the servants begin to use words with
two meanings, one of which is sexual. Words like thrust , stir (to have sex), stand
(have an erection) and maidenheads (virginity) are used. Sampson and Gregory
continue to use sexual innuendo to insult each other s manhood and brag about their
own virility. Sampson says that t is known I [he] is a pretty piece of flesh to mean he
is an attractive man but Gregory replies insultingly by suggesting that he is not able
to have an erection. This gives the play humour and grabs the audience s attention.
Immediately after this, an argument breaks out between Sampson and Gregory and
two servants of the Montague household. After a few insults, they begin to fight.

Characterization Of The Novel Fearless
In the novel Fearless by Eric Blehm, the main character Adam Brown starts out in
highschool being a great student but, in college he finds some difficulties in his
life. When everything does not go to smooth, he tried drugs, and it just got worse
as he used cocaine. He started stealing from his family and friends and would run
away, eventually his family had enough of him and was afraid of something
happening to him. His family and friends would always see the old Adam wishing
he was still there, but he no longer had control until he met his wife Kelly and tried
his hardest. At Arkansas Tech he was no longer the standout player on the football
field, started getting mediocre grades, and in his free time he would be at parties
or the club. One night after a party with his old friends Jeff, Heath, and Richard
they were almost driven off the road and met four guys and got in a fight. One of
the guys had a blade in his hand and hit jeff right in the side, filled with anger Jeff
quickly got back at him and started pounding his head in but was soon pulled off by
Adam. The guys then hopped back into the truck until a one of them came back out
with a shotgun and shot Jeff. Adam immediately ripped his shirt off and walked to

Building Construction
In building construction and in fire prevention there are organizations that have
created a useful system on how to determine what type of building falls under which
category. The ICC (International Code Council) and the NFPA (National Fire
Protection Association) create these building codes for the safety of firefighters. The
two most commonly known standards for buildingclassifications are the NFPA 5000
and also the International Building Code(IBC). The two are very similar, however,
they different on sub categorizing. The International Building Code uses Roman
numerals behind the type of construction. In addition to subcategories with letters for
each five classes and the amount of fire resistance provided for each building. NFPA

This type of construction took heavier beams and spaced them further apart. In
addition, it didn t use plywood or OSB board for sub flooring. Instead it used thick
tongue and grooved planks. This type of construction created a lot of open
headspace in the kitchen, living rooms, dining rooms, and family rooms. This was
an improvement in construction types for firefighters because interior fires can be
easily contained. However, because of interior finishes, flame spread would be a
serious problem. This structure design also poses another fire hazard which
claims firefighter lives every years, which is roof collapsing. Truss Frame
construction is known to be the most common and most often used type of
construction today because it is cost effective. This construction type was first
thought to be safe and durable, but under fire condition it poses a different kind of
factor. Truss frame construction is made of lightweight woods that create triangles
for support. Inside of the main triangle or parallel chords are links called Webbings
that provided extra support. These triangles, parallel chords, and links are all held
together but metal plates called gusset plates. This type of construction is a serious
problem to fire fighters because of all the materials used. The lightweight wood
material is easily ignited during fires and the metal gusset plates are nothing more
How Does Social Media Affect The Performance Of The
Music...
In the midst of the United States dot com bubble (years 1997 2000), there was a
surge in technology that brought about file sharing and digital downloads.
Threatening the survival of the music industry and introducing a unique set of
challenges for the industry to overcome. To remain relevant in the new global market
of digital music online, the music industry would have to evolve and change with the
introduction of each new facet technology had to offer. The introduction of digitally
compressed music files, so easily attainable for a small fee or downloaded legally
(pirated) for free, made the music industry reevaluate how to make a profit and
protect copyrights. Social media created a visible opportunity for both consumers and
artists to maintain digital relationships while providing a platform for consumers to
follow and discover new musicians and bands, naturally, making the internet a
promotional medium for artists. As the corner record shops closed to make way for
virtual storefronts and instant downloads; the internet, digital downloading, and
social media made an enormous impact on the music industry that has changed the
way consumers purchase, source, listen to, and produce music today.
The development of affordable technology in conjunction with the introduction of the
internet, shifted the consumer market, by way of downloads and file sharing.
Technological advancements led to the compression of music into the MP3 format,
thus allowing consumers to download
Bowel Constipation Essay
Constipation Treatment: Constipation is the term used to describe irregular bowel
actions, hard motions or difficulty in passing faces. It is twice as common in
women as it is in men and increases with age. A recent study revealed that 10% of
adults believed they had suffered from constipation during the previous fortnight.
Those results may have stemmed from the widespread belief that the bowels
should be open daily and that failure to do so will cause any umber of complaints
ranging from headaches to depression. In fact, one medical study has shown that the
average person may pass faeces as little as twice a week or as often as three times
every day. Children are often taken to a GP by a parent who id worried that their

The Music Of The World Of Music
The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart,
Chopin, and Vivaldi, but none of them have a story as amazing as the 18th century
classical composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. His life played out like one of his
beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows, victories, and defeats, (Viegas
5). Although he lost his hearing when he was 26 years old, Beethoven was famous
for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western
civilization through the legacy of his music.

His father, Johann, became an alcoholic as a result of never living up to his father
s musical achievements. His greatest hope for success in life now rested on one
individual his young son Ludwig (Viegas 12). He gave Ludwig, music lessons
from when he was very young. Many accounts believe that Ludwig s father was
abusive in his lessons. So dedicated to improving Ludwig s musicianship, he would
beat him or lock him in the cellar. Since these events took place when Beethoven
was at such an impressionable age, it is hard to tell how much of his later obsession
with music came from a love of the craft or from a drive instilled by his domineering
father (Viegas 13).
Regardless of his father s dominance, Beethoven s musical prodigy was very
natural for him. This is proven by the fact that although his father encouraged him
to play pre existing compositions, Beethoven composed his own. In 1779, German
composer Christian Gottlob Neefe took over Ludwig s father s role as a music
teacher. Mild mannered and well educated, he inspired Beethoven to pursue his
talent for composing music further, and in 1782, Neefe decided to publish
Beethoven s compositions. As Neefe began to publicize 12 year old Beethoven s
talents, they caught the attention of Maximilian Franz, the new elector of the region
who had an appreciation for music. He had Beethoven play the viola for his court
orchestra and was very
Essay about I’ve Got to Habit
I ve Got to Habit
Overcoming bad habits or creating new ones is easier than one might think.
Quality of life can be compromised by behaviors such as procrastination and
reluctance to change. There are people who believe they are set in their ways or
who resist change by denying there is any need for it. Those are simply cop outs.
Habits are broken by the same method they are created. When individuals begin
tackling a few stubborn habits and creating a few more desirable habits, life can
become more enjoyable and worthwhile. It is important to distinguish behaviors from
habits and habits from addictions. As defined in the New Oxford American

The truth is it only sent a subliminal message to the procrastinator s unconscious

thing is usually one of the things on the list could have been done in the time it took

suggested that inhibitions and good intentions can hinder or assist in the breaking of

been done on the role of inhibition in the context of pre existing habits. However,
understanding the cognitive mechanisms involved in successful implementation of
intentions is highly relevant, and particularly so in the domain of health behavior,
where people often try to change their habits by means of conscious intentions. The
present study, therefore, was designed to examine how intentions can lead to the
The Effects Of Osteoporosis On A Person Skeletal System
Osteoporosis Osteoporosis, meaning porous bone from the Greek language, is bone
disease that gradually and steadily wears down bone tissue and its living cells. This
wearing down will eventually cause the cells of bone tissue to degrade and die,
leaving their scaffolding to be the only things only bonetogether. Without living
cells to take up a home in this scaffolding, minor injuries such as falls, bumping into
objects, and pressure that would normally be completely and would not pose any
threat to bone tissue suddenly becomes a real hazard that can easily pose a threat to

Because my father was not available for most of the year, it was almost impossible
to complete my financial aid. My mom cannot speak English so that was not an
option either. I was ultimately stuck.
With this letter to you, I urge you to please hear me out and help me. I do not have
the money to attend UCONN because of my family s financial situation. The aid I
received was a blessing and gave me the opportunity to follow my dreams and
make my parents proud. It was the main driving factor for me going to UCONN as
I pay for school myself. I had worked all summer and had planned to take whatever
the difference was once financial aid was factored in and pay for it with my hard
earned money, but now I will not be able to do that because of a miscommunication
with my father and my mental illness. If I am granted financial aid, I will do
whatever it takes to overcome
Reporting Sexual Assault In The United States Military
The Navy was ranked second regarding Navy servicewomen and the second ranked
for the servicemen was the Marines. In 2014, The Marine Corps reported the highest
percentage of assaults against women, with 7.9 percent reporting having endured an
assault, while the Navy had the highest for men, 1.5 percent. The percent of troops
reporting a sexual assaultin the other services among women were 4.7 percent of
Army soldiers, 6.5 percent of Navy sailors, 2.9 percent of Air Force airmen and 3.0
percent of Coast Guardsmen. The percentage of male troops reporting a sexual assault
were 1 percent of soldiers, 0.3 percent of airmen, 1.1 percent of
Marines and 0.3 percent of Coast Guardsmen. The Rand survey further estimated that

Anonymous, United States Navy. It took a lot of courage to come forward and
report I had been sexually assaulted by my army supervisor (e 7) and his Afghan
colleague who both worked for the 3star Army command general. I thought there
would be an investigation and that I would be allowed to continue doing my job,

Statistics Is The Most Popular Score Essay
Introduction
Statistics is not only part of a required to create on coursework in schools.
Everywhere person looks, statistics is around. Too many people think statistics is
difficult though, but it is all around them in real life. Three main descriptive statistics
which make data easier to interpret, measure central tendency. They are the mean,
measured, and median. Each of these are averages, which everyone is exposed to in
everyday life (Stapel, n.d.). All three have specific uses in real life.
The Mode
The first measure, the mode, is the most popular score. To find the mode, one
tallies the frequency of each number or value. The mode becomes the group that
occurs the most frequently (Averages, n.d.). A set of numbers may have more than
one mode when an equal number of occurrences takes place at more than one value.
Of course, a mode may not occur in a set of numbers if the numbers appear with
equal frequency (Henry, 2011). Next, a few examples of the mode are explained.
First, California Homeschool Network s election occurs annually. An election is a
great example explaining the method. The election consists of trustees that members
vote for. When the election closes, the results displaying the trustee who receives the
most votes is the winner. This winner received the largest number of tallies during the
election count.
Another example of the mode is finding the average number of students in various
programs at National University determining which are the most
Are You A Mentor Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter 5: Are You a Mentor? , provides advice on how to and how not to find a
mentor. Having mentorship is important to career succession, but what is the best
way to find and maintain a mentor. Since, unfortunately, women seem to have more
difficulty than men in finding a mentor, Sandberg suggests that rather than asking
someone to be your mentor, women should Excel and you will get a mentor. She
emphasizes to do good work, ask profound questions and always be respectful of you
mentors time in order to maintain a mentor. Chapter 6: Seek and Speak the Truth
emphasizes the importance of genuine and sincere communication. Although this is
not always easy to have in the workplace, it is the foundation for having successful
relationships at home and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many ambitious and successful women in the workplace begin declining offers or
stop pursuing better positions due to fear that they may not be able to handle the
responsibility once they have a child, long before they are even close to having a
child. Sandberg suggests that women not take their foot of the gas pedal or put on
the brakes until they need to. In chapter 8: Make a Partner a Real Partner, Sandberg
stresses the importance of having a partner who is willing to split the roles at home
so that the time and workload is 50/50. She believes that just as women must be more
empowered at work, men must be more empowered at home. Admitting that this
easier said than done, it ends up being better for everyone. In chapter 9, The Myth of
Doing it All, Sandberg explains that it is impossible for anyone to do it all. Many
working mothers feel guilty when they compare themselves to stay at home mothers,
assuming that they spend more time with their children than working mothers can.
Studies show no difference in child outcome from working mothers and stay at home
The Definition of DNA
DNA:
DNA is a double stranded nucleic acid that contains the genetic information for cell
growth, division, and function. DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary
material in humans and almost all other organisms. Most DNA is located in the cell
nucleus but a small amount of DNA can also be found in the mitochondria .The
information in DNA is stored as a code made up of four nitrogen bases which are
adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T). these nitrogen bases are
bind with each other through hydrogen bond. [1]
History of DNA research
dna structure dna replication
Before a cell can divide, it must duplicate all its DNA. In eukaryotes, this occurs
during S phase of the cell cycle.
The Biochemical Reactions * DNA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identification * DNA is often referred to as a double helix because of its
appearance. DNA is made of two long strands called nucleotides that run in opposite
directions from one another. Nucleotides are made of sugars and phosphate groups
that are joined together by ester bonds. Attached to each of the sugars is a molecule
called a base. Four different types of bases encode the information that is used for
cell replication.
Evolution
* As organisms evolve, DNA sequences change to produce new qualities and weed
out qualities that are no longer needed. Sometimes this happens because of a process
of natural selection. Qualities that help people survive certain diseases and
conditions continue to be passed on to offspring; less desirable qualities are slowly
removed from the population. These DNA evolutions help species to survive and
reproduce despite changing conditions.[8]
Disease Diagnosis and Treatment
One important area of DNA research is that of genetics and medical research. Due
to our discovery of DNA, our ability to actually diagnose diseases early on has been
vastly improved. In addition, we have been able to better assess a person s genetic
susceptibility to specific diseases. In doing so, we have also paved the pathway to
formulate brand new drugs to treat these diseases. In fact, drugs can essentially be
custom made to complement a person s personal biochemistry and genetic makeup.
For those diseases that were previously considered

The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz By Frank Baum
Firstly, before examining about Alice in Wonderland , I would like to discuss about
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which was the first American fairy tale, written by
Frank Baum. Baum was very invested in the triumph posited by rationalistic notions
of Manifest Destiny and the heroism of the Frontier. He wanted to have the children
to be proud of the story of how the settlers were conquering the land of the natives at
that time and constructing the uniquely American identity. This objective of
establishing the ideal American citizens through this story was embodied by Dorothy
and her companions. There, characteristics such as intelligent, empathetic and
courageous were presented as ideal American traits and how Dorothy s bravely...

Baum was outlining the parameters of his America , and a part of that included
things like ideal Americans, deciding who belonged and who did not and who
should be excluded as others. Like this story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, most
popular texts and forms of art tend to have some kind of relationship with the
societies from which they stem. As well as reflecting the historical and cultural
character of the society, they voice the author s own beliefs about the society at that
time. To move on, I would like to discuss about the Victorian period and the
characteristics of the Victorian Literatureto analyze Carolls intentions for writing the
Alice in Wonderland during the Victorian era. One of the major characteristics of the
Victorian Period is urbanization and industrialization due to the Industrial Revolution
that initiated around 1760. Because of this atmosphere of industrialization,
urbanization and also colonization, the gap between wealth and poverty widened a
lot. Therefore, in Great Britain during the Victorian period the class structure
became rigid and women and children from the weaker laboring class suffered a big
deal from the severe labor while the upper class acted arrogantly and enjoyed a
luxurious life. On the other hand, in the Victorian period, because of the upsurge of
the religious movement called evangelism and permeation of people s thinking about
revising the society, there was an atmosphere to demand for strict morals

Essay on The Power of the Piano
What can appear to gleam and reflect such beauty and craftsmanship yet can be
handled by a three year old. It s sound so pure by a touch of a finger has been in
existence for well over a hundred years and is the foundation for creating music. It
s black and white keys produce sounds when played correctly that can bring tears to
one s eyes, touch your heart and soul, bring hope, or even joy and laughter to an
event. All of this power... lies in the piano. The piano from its creation to this very
second had transformed the world of music no matter what class, talent, and ability.
To start off, the word piano is derived from the Italian word pianoforte which means,

s range of notes and sound quality would continue to increase as time went on. So
how do we differentiate between the different types of pianos? It s not about the
outside but the inside we re always told that counts. The frame more importantly
the strings on a grand piano, are horizontal ( Piano Play It ). The strings on the
inside go away from the keyboard. The other main subcategory for pianos is
Upright pianos. These pianos strings are construed like their name, horizontally
and so is their frame. This arrangement of the strings makes this piano the most
compact of traditional pianos ( Piano Play It ). In addition to your traditional

is the electric piano, which utilized electromagnetic pickups, and these pickups
sense vibrations and magnify and modify the sound the strings when hit by
pressing any key on the keyboard. You find these pianos still used a couple

the 20th century when we see the emergence of keyboards... which I will discuss

Characteristics Of Judaism
There are many religions across the world, 4,200 to be exact. However, the most
practiced religions only come down to five, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism,
Christianity, and Islam. Some of these are very similar, but each of these religions has
unique and distinct characteristics that set them apart from one another. Judaismis an
ancient monotheistic religion that encompasses the religion and way of life of the
Jewish people. Judaism is a monotheistic religion that believes in the godnamed
HaShem. It was founded around 1800 B.C.E in Israel by Abraham. Abraham and
Moses were very important people, Abraham being the prophet of God and Moses
saving hundreds of slaves from Egypt. The symbol of Judaism is David s Star, (вњЎ)
this was used in a prayer book as a title of the god of Israel. Jewish people worship
their religions in temples and learn their religion from their sacred text, Torah. The
religion teaches the Ten Commandments, which teaches to cause no harm and to
remain peaceful. Some rules are to not eat pork and rest on Sabbath. The goal of
Judaism is to maintain a positive moral behavior. The Jewish belief is that when you
die, you are taken to the Promised land by Moses. (Continued on next page)
Some holidays that they will celebrate are Hanukkah: the festival of lights that starts
on December 13th, and Rosh Hashanah: the Jewish New Year on September 22nd.
Judaism has many different characteristics and ways of life. The second founded
religion was Hinduism.

Age Related Macular Degeneration Essays
Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of
blindness in people over the age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the
prevalence of this disease increases exponentially. Many different factors contribute
to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and metabolic functions.
Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in fruits
and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and
oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in
the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retinaand

Dry Macular Degeneration: The early and most common form of AMD is called dry
(atrophic) or nonneovascular macular degeneration. About 90% of AMD cases are
known to be in this form. This form does not involve abnormal blood vessels and
or leaking of fluid. Vision impairments are still great and potential of complete
vision loss is still possible. People affected by dry AMD experience central vision
impairments, limited area of central vision, and limited vision when in areas of
reduced light. Dry AMD is thought to be the result of the retina breaking down
because of the formation of deposits, known as drusen, under the macula. The
macula is a small area within the retina that is responsible for central vision. It s
believed that these deposits interfere with vitamin transport, oxygen transport, and
waste removal in the aged eye directly affecting the macula causing it to thin and dry
out, losing its function. Depending on how severe this thinning and degeneration of
the retina is, vision impairments will vary. Macular degeneration in its early stages
is associated with minimal vision impairments, large drusen, and other pigmentary
abnormalities in the macula. Drusen are deposits of fatty proteins that accumulate
below the basement membrane of the retinal pigment epithelium. People over the
age of 50 years have at least one small hard drusen in one or both eyes. People with
large, soft drusen are the ones at high risk for AMD. Hard
The Interaction between the American and the Samoan...
Describe the interaction between the two leadership groups. What behaviors of the
American representatives could create conflict with the Samoan leaders? Are there
similarities from this meeting and the Blue Horizon Cruise simulation meeting?
At this tense meeting with considerable distrust and suspicion evident in the faces,
speeches and body language of the Samoan chiefs, the High Chief expressed
considerable skepticism about American plans for the island, such as providing more
education in English, teaching the young marketable skills, and developing the
country. Being educated at the University of Hawaii, the High Chief would have had
very good reason to be suspicious of the intentions of the United States, even when its
representatives expressed their goodwill toward the Native peoples and desire to
bring progress; and modernization. He would have learned about the wars against
the Native Americans from the 17th to the 19th Centuries, for example, the
annexation of Hawaii in 1898, and the Philippines War of 1899 1902, if indeed he
had not known all about these before.
American Samoa was annexed only nine years before Guam, the Philippines and
Hawaii, when the U.S. was in a particularly expansionist and imperial stage. At no
time were the peoples of these consulted about whether they wished to be annexed to
the United States, although American policy did grant them a large measure of
autonomy and home rule. In addition the High Chief would have learned

Aquinas Relation Between The Body And Soul
Aquinas on the relation between the body and soul
In Summa theologiae Ia, q. 75, Aquinas combines both Platonic and Aristotelian
notions of the soul in responding to a question on the unity of the human soul and the
body. He supports Aristotelianism in describing a human being as composed of both
matter and form. Here he suggests that a human being has both the soul, which is the
essence of human existence and matter, which is the actualization of the human
existence.
However, when it comes to the status of the soul after death, he supports the
Augustinian notion of the separation of body and soul upon death and the continued
existence of the soul after death. Combining both Plato and Aristotle helps him to
describe how a human mind functions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soul is different from the body in that it is able to communicate with the divine
and see things that are beyond human senses. The soul therefore has a specific
function in connecting the body with the divine as well as running bodily functions.
Athanasius instead argues that the fall of man is a real thing that happens to a living
body, which voluntarily decides to allow its thoughts to wander away from doing
good and falls for the material world hence its punishment is to be sent away from
paradise.
Athanasius therefore argues that recreation is simply the restoration of man in the
image of God. Man sinned and lost the image of God and therefore he needs to be
restored to take this image again. Incarnation therefore finds a great meaning in man
s life since it serves this purpose. That is, to restore the relationship between God and
man.Through the incarnate Christ, man is able to come closer to God and is saved.

Marfan s Syndrome Essay
Marfan s syndrome is a rare hereditary disorder of the body s connective tissue. The
phenotypic traits include being tall, abnormally long stretched limbs and in the
most severe cases the aorta can be prone to rupture and retinal detachment can
occur [1]. Seventy five percent of cases for this multisystem disorder are genetic
and inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion (a child can inherit it from just one
parent): 25% are sporadic where neither parent has the syndrome [2]. Its prevalence
is 1/5000 and of these affected individuals each has a 50% chance of passing on the
mutated gene to their offspring [3]. Marfan s syndrome is caused by mutations in
the fibrillin 1 gene (FBN1) located on chromosome 15q21.1 [4]. Fibrillin is a large

Two thirds (approximately 66%) of Marfan s syndrome sufferers experience
problems in the cardiovascular system and have mitral valve prolapse; where blood
may flow back from the ventricles into the atrium in a process called mitral valve
regurgitation. This may require valve repair or valve replacement. If cardiac
arrhythmias occurs where the heartbeat becomes irregular there is the risk of sudden
death [2]. Thoracic aortic aneurysm is also prevalent in Marfan s syndrome sufferers.
This is a condition caused by the widening of the aorta due to weakness in the walls
of the vessel. Aneurysm can lead to rupture itself or to aortic dissection where the
aorta wall tears thus allowing blood to flow between the layers of the blood vessel
walls. It can result in rupture or in a decrease in blood flow to the organs. This
situation is very dangerous and is most likely to require heart surgery or aortic
replacement
The Pullman Palace Car Company Manufactured Railroad
Cards
The Pullman Palace Car Company manufactured railroad cards. The workers were
not part of a union and lived in the town of Pullman where the company controlled
the rent, utilities, and politics. Due to a poor economy, the Pullman Palace Car
Company laid off many employees and cut wages for those remaining by 25% and
didn t lower the costs in the town of Pullman. The ARU came on board and made
numerous attempts to negotiate with the company and none were successful. I agree
with the workers striking considering they were in a lose lose situation with their
employer controlling their entire life not only their employment but their living
conditions. The company had no reason to want to deal with them because they
controlled everything.
Role Of Divine Intervention In The Iliad
At the surface level, it s easy to assume that the heroes in Homer s The Iliad
experience change as a result of their own personal desires and lust for pride;
however, when considering the mortal affairs the gods partake in, it becomes
apparent that the changes are taking place due to divine presence rather than personal
ambitions. As a result of divine intervention, Achillesand Agamemnon undergo
changes in persona, which makes it impossible to determine if they were ever truly
living as themselves, or merely as an image of what the gods shaped them to be. The
divine meddles in and around Achilles and Agamemnon change the two men and
their personas, but consequentially reveals that those changes in persona are only a
result of the gods playing god; no change comes from the man himself.
Homer explores change through divine intervention from the first book of the epic
poem through Achilles behavior towards Agamemnon. Agamemnon sparks Apollos
rage when he disparages Chryses, a priest of Apollo, and Apollo consequentially
rains arrows down on the Achaeans as punishment. A concerned Achilles asks around
to discover why Apollo is punishing them, and when the seer Calchas explains the
reason behind Apollo s anger, Achilles becomes enraged and confronts Agamemnon,
and declares he will not return to battle. This verbal declaration signifies a change in
character as a result of divine intervention, as it becomes clear that Achilles has felt
this way for some time, but never acted

However, the death rates were getting high in most of the highest hospitals of the
regions. At the time of her first winter at Scutari, there were 4,077 soldiers died, in
which most of the soldiers died from sicknesses like dysentery, cholera, typhoid, and
typhus, instead of wounds got by battle. In March 1855, Sanitary Commission had
to be sent out by the British government to Scutari, by watching lack of ventilation
and overloading defective sewers. This step was taken after the six months of
Florence arrival. This commission improved ventilation and flushed out the sewers.
Undoubtedly, the death rates greatly declined but she never claimed hygiene as a
cause of death and the reason to reduce the rate of death. After the arrival to Britain,
Florence started gathering evidences before the health of Army. Florence also
believed that many of the soldiers were kill by poor living conditions at the hospital.
This drastic experience becomes the reason of great influence throughout her career.
Conclusion The whole historical study of Florence Nightingale is the tremendous
example for learning about human service profession. It reflects how a lady takes
different initiatives and wanted to go in the depth of the cause. She still conceived
that the reason of death rate was due to worst and poor nutrition, overworking or
soldiers and lack of supplements.

Enzyme Biological Systems By Speeding Up The Chemical...
Enzymes catalyze biological systems by speeding up the chemical reactions
included. Enzymes developed from the peroxidase that is obtained from the different
roots reacts with the hydrogen peroxide, which releases H2 and water. The extra
hydrogen is indicated by the color change of the solution that is used to measure the
rate of enzyme activity. When the rate of enzyme activity was high, the activity
always occurred in the roots in the beginning stages of their development. However,
when the rate of enzyme activity was low during the roots development, sucrose was
present. Sucrose was not present in roots when the tissues consisted of high activities
of acid invertase. Radish roots proved to have the rate of enzyme of activity remained
high until maturity and showed to not have considerable amounts of sucrose. In
addition, radish roots can be seen to have similar rate of enzyme activity when
compared to the turnip roots because these roots also maintained a high enzyme
activity until maturity and did not have considerable amounts of sucrose. Both roots,
as a result, reduced sugars being the main reserve. Through the experiment having to
do with sugar accumulation and invertase activity during the development of turnip
and radish roots, it was observed that these matured roots consumed higher amounts
of reducing sugars than sucrose (Ricardo, 1974). In addition, similar changes in sugar
content to the turnip roots, invertase activity and dry weight were also detected

Sarcasm Study
Abstract: Sarcasm is the use of irony to mean the opposite of what is being said.
Adults are able to identify sarcasm using two distinct cue; context and intonation
(change in tone of an individual s voice). However, are children able to identify these
cues and used them to determine sarcasm? And at what age do children have the
ability to distinguish sarcasm from everyday speech? Children 8 12 years of age were
put through two experiments to determine whether they are able to use context and
intonation to identify sarcasm. At the end of the experiment it was determined that
the children relied on intonation to identify sarcasm and when intonation was not
present they were unable to determine whether or not the character was being
sarcastic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pexman in the article How Do Typically Developing Children Grasp The Meaning
Of Verbal Irony? designed an experiment that allowed individuals to understand the
age range in which children are able to distinguish and understand the concept of
sarcasm. The experiment consisted of 70 participants (36 male, 34 female)
ranging from the ages of 6 10 years. In this experiment twenty four puppets, who
were dressed to resemble children, were used as characters in a puppet show.
Twelve puppet shows were presented each ending with either an ironic, literal,
ironic compliment, or literal compliment. The puppet show went as follows: This
is Sam, and this is John. They play on the same soccer team. It is the last few
minutes of a game. Outcome 1: John kicks the ball, scoring a goal. Sam says: That
was a great play! (Literal compliment) or Sam says: That was a terrible play!
(Ironic compliment) Outcome 2: John kicks the ball, missing a goal. Sam says:
That was a great play! (Ironic criticism) or Sam says: That was a terrible play!
(Literal criticism). (Pexman, 2006) These shows were set up in a way where the
main character did not participate in any of the actions (ex: playing soccer) but
always complimented/criticized the characters who did. The narratives of the puppet
show were also prerecorded in order to ensure that the criticism made were done in a
mocking/insincere tone. After watching the plays the children were asked to rate the
main character/speakers
Oaknoll Argumentative Essay
Imagine a woman with powdery, permed hair who smells of hairspray and flowery
potpourri. She is an 87 year old mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who
has found a new home at a retirement facility after her husband of 56 years passed
away, but now that home is being taken from her. In its 48 years, Oaknoll, a
retirement home and care facility located in Iowa City, has been a home for
hundreds of residents. As a nonprofit organization, Oaknoll has little to offer the city
financially. It does not pay property taxes and sits upon prime property along bustling
Benton and Oakcrest streets. With the closing of Oaknoll, Iowa City plans to sell the
land, potentially valued at over three million dollars, to private owners for the
construction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opening in 1966, Oaknoll began with the aspiration of providing a home and
living environment with guaranteed for care for all residents. Since that time,
there have been many changes to its physical appearance, but Oaknoll s mission to
serve its resident is the same (Napoli). Though the floor plan can be confusing, the
feeling of the place is warm and inviting. The opening lobby has high ceilings, a
fireplace, and inviting furniture perfect for a quick visit. Oaknoll s wide hallways
accommodate the wheelchairs and walkers some residents use to get around and the
light colored walls and well placed windows give a feeling of openness. Furthermore,
there are several family rooms with tables and couches for a meal or get together. If
a family wishes to visit longer, Oaknoll has three guest rooms available so they can
be close by ( Oaknoll ). One of the most unique traits of Oaknoll s decor is the
artwork displayed as all art found in the public spaces and hallways is either donated
or created by residents, adding a personal touch to the facility. Also, community is a
major theme throughout the building. With a large dining and activity room, a small
theater, a game room, and public cafГ©s, there are many places residents can gather.
The new additions to Oaknoll provided community value as well as estate

Have you ever wondered who invented the modern

Have you ever wondered who invented the modern computers we use today? Now, you
would probably say Microsoft or Apple; however the truth is modern computers were
invented by Alan Turing. He invented the Turing Machine, which is a computer that
could process anything. In other words he created the first programing language. Not
only did he contribute to computerscience, but also in biology, chemistry, physics, and
especially mathematics. He has countless number of achievements including his
contribution of cracking the Nazi enigma code, which seemed at that time,
unbreakable . Now lets dive into the life of Alan.
Now where is better to start than his early life. Alan was born into a wealthy family.

However on the same day of the first day of term one, a general strike occurred for
ten days (1926). He was so determined to attend the school, he biked 60 miles to the
school while staying at an inn for one night. He makes a good friend named
Christopher Morcom. however he died on February 1930 while enrolling to the same
college as Alan. Alan becomes very devastated and becomes atheist.
After attending high school at Sherborne, be enrolled at the University of
Cambridge. There he studied from 1931 till 1934, taking a masters in computer
science, and mathematics. He also proved the central limit theorem and wrote a paper
about artificial intelligence. For undergraduate work, he did plenty of lectures and
tutoring, math, biology, and physics. He also did some coaching however soon quits
because it was too time consuming. He also joined the cross country team. He won
over 6 completions in long distance running. He even competed in the AAA
Championships in Loughborough (1932). He gotten fifth place. The first three were
to go to the 1948 Olympics. He graduated at Cambridge with honors in mathematics
and elected as a Fellow (basically student representative). He also writes a famous
paper named, On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the
Entscheidungsproblem on 1936. It was a paper describing a main concept idea of the

Driving Cars Are On The Way
Self driving cars are on the way. Soon, you ll be able to purchase a fully autonomous
vehicle, jump in and leave the driving to computers. Play games, read a book or
recline your seat and nap your self driving car will transport you safely to your
journey s end.
Autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist
are already included in many new vehicles, offering motorists a harbinger of what s
to come.
By 2020, the first fully autonomous vehicles are expected to deploy on America s
roadways. Consumers, however, are not sharing the same enthusiasm owned by self
driving proponents of autonomous vehicle technology. Indeed, three out of four
Americans surveyed by AAA say that they are afraid to ride in a self driving vehicle.
Decades of Autonomous Vehicle Testing
Before we examine the AAA survey, we need to gain context based on background.
Experiments on self driving vehicles have been ongoing for decades. For example,
beginning in the 1980s, a German researcher at a Munich university, Ernst Dickmanns
, built the world s first robotic car. Those earlier models required human intervention
to control engine throttle and braking. By 1995, Dickmanns team launched the first
fully autonomous vehicle, a Mercedes Benz S Class and inaugurated it on a 1,000
mile round tripper from Munich to Denmark and back, including nearly 100 miles of
human free control.(2)
That watershed mission was accomplished without incident and led to other
Russian Revolution Causes
The Russian Revolution have many important stages that are distinct from one
another, From the Tsar to the Provisional Government to the Communist. It all
happened in 1914, World War I is booming in Europe, a perfect opportunity for
Russia s rotting society. War makes the Russian people forget about the disputes that
the Tsar failed to resolve. And so the Tsar dragged his people to war with Germany.
At first, Russiawas seemingly to be successful, but the Russian army with bad
leadership from the incompetent generals have caused them major defeats against
the German. Morale was low and to combat this, Tsar Nicholas himself went to the
battlefield and leave his wife in charge of the nation back home. People of all class
heavily reject this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Red Army are the communists that are in power and held most of the land. Most
countries of the former Russian Empire turn socialist and join Russia into a big Soviet
Union. The Allies saw that Russia pulled out of the war and the German have more
forces now that they are free from the Eastern front. And so the Allies intervened
the Russian in their civil war by supporting the White, hopefully they would
continue the war once they took over. But this is repelled when the Reds uses
nationalism to encourage the Russian to drive out foreign power, this has a crucial
outcome in the future as the Russian have a distrust in the West. The civil war uses
Terror as a strategy for both sides. Assassinations attempts and executions happened
often. The Red set up the Cheka, a Secret police force that take out political
opponents and spread fear among their own people, just like what the tsar did
when he was in power to keep the people from rebelling. The communists also set
up forced labor camps to make political prisoner work. They also adopt a policy
known as War Communism. The Government took control of almost all aspect of
economy of the people and that peasants are forced to give all their crops to the
Army and the people in the city, peasants were also forcefully drafted to the army or
forced to work in factories. Trotsky trained his army into an effective fighting force,
using terror to discipline his soldiers by shooting every tenth men in an unit if they
performed poorly in battle. The Red army with strategic location and organization are
far better than the scattered whites that have to fight from all sides with no
coordinations. By 1921, the Reds beat the whites
Disability In Pirates Of The Caribbean
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World s End is a Disney film which made its cinema
debut ten years ago as the third installment of the five movie package which
centers around Captain Jack Sparrow and his swash buckling pirate hijinks all
while being an alcoholic. This disability is common for actors whom help reprise
the role of these sinister pirates who once draped our seas but it not the type of
character that is usually focused on in a children s movie. This type of disorder is
usually not thought about in relationship to a disability but since it is listed as a
disease that is as much uncontrollable as any physical disability we have no choice
but to recognize as we see it not only in this movie but so many that have graced the
big screen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see that with Jack Sparrow as he constantly is in need of rum in order to cope
with his surroundings and also relates the drinking to functioning in his everyday
activities. This is apparent in one scene where he is in the locker and he takes a

hell and are aware of it is supposed to be a place where your greatest sins are within
reach but can never quench your thirst with them as they are just at arm s
Ge Case Analysis
, Case #1: the turbine generator industry
The default prediction that we d make using economic theory (or common sense) in
the absence of game theory is that, in the turbine generator case, General Electric
should have undercut Westinghouse because the former has lower costs.
But we start to see why it didn t when we introduce capacity constraints into the
Bertrand model. Capacity constraints can stem from two things: decreasing returns to
scale, or demand uncertainties that create expected inventory cost risks and induce
firms to produce to order and carry backlogs. The second condition certainly prevails
in the turbine generator case.
Anti trust regulators observed that both GE and Westinghouse were pricing higher

Empirical data suggests successful signaling between the firms in the Cournot aspect
of their game also.
Attempts by government to discourage tacit collusion in industries like this one are
worse than silly. They harm businesses and consumers, bring in no extra public
revenue, and may actually create monopolies instead of discouraging them! Such
perverse competition policies are nevertheless in place in both the European Union
and South Africa.
In the United States, firms can be investigated for collusion by the anti trust authority
only if there is physical evidence of communication about pricing strategies between
competing firms. In the EU and SA, by contrast, competition authorities can
investigate merely because they observe that industry prices aren t at competitive
equilibrium.
So what is supposed to happen, under the latter regime, when competitive equilibrium
and Nash equilibrium don t coincide? This implies that at least one firm must
sacrifice some profits to deter the authority from investigating. It would be
inefficient if all firms in the industry so sacrificed at all times. For maximum
industry profits, one firm at a time should price away from equilibrium and be
compensated by the others. Thus we have it that as a result of (badly theorized)
competition policy policy explicitly designed to deter collusion we get incentives to
The Icon Of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion
The Icon of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion For a movie released in 1978 it still
holds true to the drama of high school and the cliche of summer love. Grease
became a classic for the same reasons as American Graffiti, it explored the life of
teens and culture during the fifties. The film director Randal Kleiser cast a previous
academy award nominee, John Travoltaand rising Australian star Olivia Newton
John and it now is the epitome of their careers. The musical is a romantic comedy
that takes place in the late fifties with a summer fling between greaser Danny Zuko
and good girl Sandy. They parted with the conclusion of summer, but when school
resumes, they find themselves attending the same high school. It follows Danny
and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t birds and pink ladies.
Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it s lively music,
dancing, humor and simple story lines. Some would consider the casting in Grease
to be a flaw because they are meant to portray teenagers and all the main actors and
actresses were well into their twenties. Stockard Channing, who played Rizzo was
thirty three when they began filming, Olivia Newton John was twenty eight, and
John Travolta was twenty three. They cast doesn t even look like they could be high
school students, but I think it was worth it to be able to include good actors and
actresses. Furthermore, from the feminist perspective the movie is categorized as bad
because of the
Medical Differences Between The Civil War And Spanish...
Nareg D Mr. Haveron Final Essay 16 March 2015 Medical Differences between the
Civil War and Spanish American War The nineteenth century held one of the most
medically appalling wars, as well as one of the most medically innovative wars.
The Civil war is considered a terrible time period for medical equipment as well as
surgeons. Many soldiers who had been fighting in the Civil War were killed by
sicknesses including diarrhea and pneumonia. Surgeons, who had minimum medical
experience, were taking care of the wounded soldiers at the time. The idea of
sanitizing and sterilizing equipment that was used on a patient beforehand was not
known by the inexperienced surgeons. Only a few years later came the Spanish
American war, which showed a vast improvement in the medical field. During the
Spanish American War many important inventions were created. These include the
invention of the x ray, the discovery of the germ theory, and the discovery of the
antiseptic method. Both of these discoveries made it much easier for Surgeons to
operate on the wounded soldiers. Another beneficial factor that made the Spanish
American War more medically advanced then the civil war was the service of
female nurses. The Nurses provided a lot of help for the surgeons at times when
there was a lot of work, and assistance was needed. It is clear that the medicinal
techniques used during the Civil War were much less advanced than those used
during the Spanish American War. The North

  • 2. Guernica By Pablo Picasso Guernica Guernica was painted in 1937 by Pablo Picasso. It stands at 11 6 tall and 25 6 wide and is considered one of the most powerful paintings ever created. The work depicts the bombing of the city Guernica in Spain. The painting is a great piece of art because of its symbolism, solemn mood, and it contains many artistic elements. Don t change sentence structure at the end. Change contains many artistic elements to fit in with the rest of the list. Tensions were high in 1937 in Europe with World War Two on the rise. Spainwas controlled by Francisco Franco, a friend of Hitler. Picasso was born in Spain and was devastated to see it be ruled by a fascist who has taken over the country. Hitler, preparing for a world war, was making new weapons and asked Franco if he could test them on a spanish city. On April 26, 1937, the German Condor Legionbombed the city of Guernica in Northern Spain, all with the permission of Franco. The bombing killed over a thousand people and left the world shocked. Picasso s oil painting on canvas captures both the reactions of the public and the pain of the innocent civilians who died. Guernica was originally panned by critics in the world. Many people criticized Picasso s style of painting the event; calling it an unrealistic painting, and a dream of a madman. Actually, most people wouldn t have known that the painting was about the bombing if there wasn t a title. This is because Picasso had a very abstract style with a lot of

In the film, 10 Things I Hate About You, Kat Stratford plays an opinionated and angry outcast in her last year of high school who just wants to be her own person. Others see her as a shrew because of her strong voice and how she constantly strives to be different from the other students. Kate Minola in The Taming of the Shrew, however, is angry and bitter because of her family and the low role a woman must play in society. People see Kate as a shrew because women in Shakespeare s time were not allowed to voice their opinions when any important decisions were made, even when they were right. When observing both versions of the same story, it becomes clear that Kat Stratford is a more developed character because of how she uses her stereotype as a shrew, her relationships with the other characters, and her deeply set

This was an improvement in construction types for firefighters because interior fires can be easily contained. However, because of interior finishes, flame spread would be a serious problem. In the midst of the United States dot com bubble (years 1997 2000), there was a surge in technology that brought about file sharing and digital downloads. Threatening the survival of the music industry and introducing a unique set of challenges for the industry to overcome. • 12. The Music Of The World Of Music The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi, but none of them have a story as amazing as the 18th century classical composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows, victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Although he lost his hearing when he was 26 years old, Beethoven was famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western civilization through the legacy of his music. His greatest hope for success in life now rested on one individual his young son Ludwig (Viegas 12). He gave Ludwig, music lessons from when he was very young. Many accounts believe that Ludwig s father was abusive in his lessons. So dedicated to improving Ludwig s musicianship, he would beat him or lock him in the cellar. Since these events took place when Beethoven was at such an impressionable age, it is hard to tell how much of his later obsession with music came from a love of the craft or from a drive instilled by his domineering father (Viegas 13). Regardless of his father s dominance, Beethoven s musical prodigy was very natural for him. This is proven by the fact that although his father encouraged him to play pre existing compositions, Beethoven composed his own. In 1779, German composer Christian Gottlob Neefe took over Ludwig s father s role as a music teacher. Mild mannered and well educated, he inspired Beethoven to pursue his talent for composing music further, and in 1782, Neefe decided to publish Beethoven s compositions. As Neefe began to publicize 12 year old Beethoven s talents, they caught the attention of Maximilian Franz, the new elector of the region who had an appreciation for music. He had Beethoven play the viola for his court orchestra and was very

There are people who believe they are set in their ways or who resist change by denying there is any need for it. Those are simply cop outs. Habits are broken by the same method they are created. When individuals begin tackling a few stubborn habits and creating a few more desirable habits, life can become more enjoyable and worthwhile. Procrastination is a behavior that must be addressed for smooth transitioning during the process of creating healthier habits. Researchers have suggested that inhibitions and good intentions can hinder or assist in the breaking of or creating a habit. Thus, although inhibition may be crucial, no research has yet been done on the role of inhibition in the context of pre existing habits. However, understanding the cognitive mechanisms involved in successful implementation of intentions is highly relevant, and particularly so in the domain of health behavior, where people often try to change their habits by means of conscious intentions. The present study, therefore, was designed to examine how intentions can lead to the

There was anxiety about trade deficits the loss of American manufacturing jobs, so Walton launched a Made in America campaign that committed Wal Mart to buying American made products if suppliers could get within 5 percent of the price of a foreign competitor. By doing this, Walton showed customers and employees alike that the company has a conscience. Not only that, but even earlier Walton gave profit sharing rights to employees in 1971. Too many people think statistics is difficult though, but it is all around them in real life. Three main descriptive statistics which make data easier to interpret, measure central tendency. They are the mean, measured, and median. Each of these are averages, which everyone is exposed to in everyday life (Stapel, n.d.). All three have specific uses in real life. The Mode The first measure, the mode, is the most popular score. To find the mode, one tallies the frequency of each number or value. The mode becomes the group that occurs the most frequently (Averages, n.d.). A set of numbers may have more than one mode when an equal number of occurrences takes place at more than one value. The Biochemical Reactions * DNA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Identification * DNA is often referred to as a double helix because of its appearance. DNA is made of two long strands called nucleotides that run in opposite directions from one another. Nucleotides are made of sugars and phosphate groups that are joined together by ester bonds. Attached to each of the sugars is a molecule called a base. Four different types of bases encode the information that is used for cell replication. Evolution * As organisms evolve, DNA sequences change to produce new qualities and weed out qualities that are no longer needed. Sometimes this happens because of a process of natural selection. Qualities that help people survive certain diseases and conditions continue to be passed on to offspring; less desirable qualities are slowly removed from the population. These DNA evolutions help species to survive and reproduce despite changing conditions.[8] Disease Diagnosis and Treatment One important area of DNA research is that of genetics and medical research. Due to our discovery of DNA, our ability to actually diagnose diseases early on has been vastly improved. In addition, we have been able to better assess a person s genetic susceptibility to specific diseases. In doing so, we have also paved the pathway to formulate brand new drugs to treat these diseases. In fact, drugs can essentially be custom made to complement a person s personal biochemistry and genetic makeup. For those diseases that were previously considered

People affected by dry AMD experience central vision impairments, limited area of central vision, and limited vision when in areas of reduced light. Dry AMD is thought to be the result of the retina breaking down because of the formation of deposits, known as drusen, under the macula. The macula is a small area within the retina that is responsible for central vision. It s believed that these deposits interfere with vitamin transport, oxygen transport, and waste removal in the aged eye directly affecting the macula causing it to thin and dry out, losing its function. Depending on how severe this thinning and degeneration of the retina is, vision impairments will vary. Macular degeneration in its early stages is associated with minimal vision impairments, large drusen, and other pigmentary abnormalities in the macula. Drusen are deposits of fatty proteins that accumulate below the basement membrane of the retinal pigment epithelium. People over the age of 50 years have at least one small hard drusen in one or both eyes. People with large, soft drusen are the ones at high risk for AMD. Hard

Athanasius instead argues that the fall of man is a real thing that happens to a living body, which voluntarily decides to allow its thoughts to wander away from doing good and falls for the material world hence its punishment is to be sent away from paradise. Athanasius therefore argues that recreation is simply the restoration of man in the image of God. Man sinned and lost the image of God and therefore he needs to be restored to take this image again. Incarnation therefore finds a great meaning in man s life since it serves this purpose. That is, to restore the relationship between God and man.Through the incarnate Christ, man is able to come closer to God and is saved. Athanasius view on the
  • 35. Marfan s Syndrome Essay Marfan s syndrome is a rare hereditary disorder of the body s connective tissue. The phenotypic traits include being tall, abnormally long stretched limbs and in the most severe cases the aorta can be prone to rupture and retinal detachment can occur [1]. Seventy five percent of cases for this multisystem disorder are genetic and inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion (a child can inherit it from just one parent): 25% are sporadic where neither parent has the syndrome [2]. Its prevalence is 1/5000 and of these affected individuals each has a 50% chance of passing on the mutated gene to their offspring [3]. Marfan s syndrome is caused by mutations in the fibrillin 1 gene (FBN1) located on chromosome 15q21.1 [4]. Fibrillin is a large glycoprotein... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two thirds (approximately 66%) of Marfan s syndrome sufferers experience problems in the cardiovascular system and have mitral valve prolapse; where blood may flow back from the ventricles into the atrium in a process called mitral valve regurgitation. This may require valve repair or valve replacement. If cardiac arrhythmias occurs where the heartbeat becomes irregular there is the risk of sudden death [2]. Thoracic aortic aneurysm is also prevalent in Marfan s syndrome sufferers. This is a condition caused by the widening of the aorta due to weakness in the walls of the vessel. Aneurysm can lead to rupture itself or to aortic dissection where the aorta wall tears thus allowing blood to flow between the layers of the blood vessel walls. It can result in rupture or in a decrease in blood flow to the organs. This situation is very dangerous and is most likely to require heart surgery or aortic replacement

Due to a poor economy, the Pullman Palace Car Company laid off many employees and cut wages for those remaining by 25% and didn t lower the costs in the town of Pullman. The ARU came on board and made numerous attempts to negotiate with the company and none were successful. I agree with the workers striking considering they were in a lose lose situation with their employer controlling their entire life not only their employment but their living conditions. The company had no reason to want to deal with them because they controlled everything.
  • 37. Role Of Divine Intervention In The Iliad At the surface level, it s easy to assume that the heroes in Homer s The Iliad experience change as a result of their own personal desires and lust for pride; however, when considering the mortal affairs the gods partake in, it becomes apparent that the changes are taking place due to divine presence rather than personal ambitions. As a result of divine intervention, Achillesand Agamemnon undergo changes in persona, which makes it impossible to determine if they were ever truly living as themselves, or merely as an image of what the gods shaped them to be. The divine meddles in and around Achilles and Agamemnon change the two men and their personas, but consequentially reveals that those changes in persona are only a result of the gods playing god; no change comes from the man himself. Homer explores change through divine intervention from the first book of the epic poem through Achilles behavior towards Agamemnon. Agamemnon sparks Apollos rage when he disparages Chryses, a priest of Apollo, and Apollo consequentially rains arrows down on the Achaeans as punishment. A concerned Achilles asks around to discover why Apollo is punishing them, and when the seer Calchas explains the reason behind Apollo s anger, Achilles becomes enraged and confronts Agamemnon, and declares he will not return to battle. This verbal declaration signifies a change in character as a result of divine intervention, as it becomes clear that Achilles has felt this way for some time, but never acted

At the time of her first winter at Scutari, there were 4,077 soldiers died, in which most of the soldiers died from sicknesses like dysentery, cholera, typhoid, and typhus, instead of wounds got by battle. In March 1855, Sanitary Commission had to be sent out by the British government to Scutari, by watching lack of ventilation and overloading defective sewers. This step was taken after the six months of Florence arrival. This commission improved ventilation and flushed out the sewers. Undoubtedly, the death rates greatly declined but she never claimed hygiene as a cause of death and the reason to reduce the rate of death. After the arrival to Britain, Florence started gathering evidences before the health of Army. Florence also believed that many of the soldiers were kill by poor living conditions at the hospital. This drastic experience becomes the reason of great influence throughout her career. Conclusion The whole historical study of Florence Nightingale is the tremendous example for learning about human service profession. It reflects how a lady takes different initiatives and wanted to go in the depth of the cause. She still conceived that the reason of death rate was due to worst and poor nutrition, overworking or soldiers and lack of supplements. References

  • 40. Enzyme Biological Systems By Speeding Up The Chemical... Enzymes catalyze biological systems by speeding up the chemical reactions included. Enzymes developed from the peroxidase that is obtained from the different roots reacts with the hydrogen peroxide, which releases H2 and water. The extra hydrogen is indicated by the color change of the solution that is used to measure the rate of enzyme activity. When the rate of enzyme activity was high, the activity always occurred in the roots in the beginning stages of their development. However, when the rate of enzyme activity was low during the roots development, sucrose was present. Sucrose was not present in roots when the tissues consisted of high activities of acid invertase. Radish roots proved to have the rate of enzyme of activity remained high until maturity and showed to not have considerable amounts of sucrose. In addition, radish roots can be seen to have similar rate of enzyme activity when compared to the turnip roots because these roots also maintained a high enzyme activity until maturity and did not have considerable amounts of sucrose. Both roots, as a result, reduced sugars being the main reserve. Through the experiment having to do with sugar accumulation and invertase activity during the development of turnip and radish roots, it was observed that these matured roots consumed higher amounts of reducing sugars than sucrose (Ricardo, 1974). In addition, similar changes in sugar content to the turnip roots, invertase activity and dry weight were also detected

  • 42. Sarcasm Study Abstract: Sarcasm is the use of irony to mean the opposite of what is being said. Adults are able to identify sarcasm using two distinct cue; context and intonation (change in tone of an individual s voice). However, are children able to identify these cues and used them to determine sarcasm? And at what age do children have the ability to distinguish sarcasm from everyday speech? Children 8 12 years of age were put through two experiments to determine whether they are able to use context and intonation to identify sarcasm. At the end of the experiment it was determined that the children relied on intonation to identify sarcasm and when intonation was not present they were unable to determine whether or not the character was being sarcastic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pexman in the article How Do Typically Developing Children Grasp The Meaning Of Verbal Irony? designed an experiment that allowed individuals to understand the age range in which children are able to distinguish and understand the concept of sarcasm. The experiment consisted of 70 participants (36 male, 34 female) ranging from the ages of 6 10 years. In this experiment twenty four puppets, who were dressed to resemble children, were used as characters in a puppet show. Twelve puppet shows were presented each ending with either an ironic, literal, ironic compliment, or literal compliment. The puppet show went as follows: This is Sam, and this is John. They play on the same soccer team. It is the last few minutes of a game. Outcome 1: John kicks the ball, scoring a goal. Sam says: That was a great play! (Literal compliment) or Sam says: That was a terrible play! (Ironic compliment) Outcome 2: John kicks the ball, missing a goal. Sam says: That was a great play! (Ironic criticism) or Sam says: That was a terrible play! (Literal criticism). (Pexman, 2006) These shows were set up in a way where the main character did not participate in any of the actions (ex: playing soccer) but always complimented/criticized the characters who did. The narratives of the puppet show were also prerecorded in order to ensure that the criticism made were done in a mocking/insincere tone. After watching the plays the children were asked to rate the main character/speakers

Decades of Autonomous Vehicle Testing Before we examine the AAA survey, we need to gain context based on background. Experiments on self driving vehicles have been ongoing for decades. Those earlier models required human intervention to control engine throttle and braking. The civil war uses Terror as a strategy for both sides. Assassinations attempts and executions happened often. The Red set up the Cheka, a Secret police force that take out political opponents and spread fear among their own people, just like what the tsar did when he was in power to keep the people from rebelling. The communists also set up forced labor camps to make political prisoner work. They also adopt a policy known as War Communism. The Government took control of almost all aspect of economy of the people and that peasants are forced to give all their crops to the Army and the people in the city, peasants were also forcefully drafted to the army or forced to work in factories. But we start to see why it didn t when we introduce capacity constraints into the Bertrand model. Capacity constraints can stem from two things: decreasing returns to scale, or demand uncertainties that create expected inventory cost risks and induce firms to produce to order and carry backlogs. The second condition certainly prevails in the turbine generator case. Anti trust regulators observed that both GE and Westinghouse were pricing higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Empirical data suggests successful signaling between the firms in the Cournot aspect of their game also. Attempts by government to discourage tacit collusion in industries like this one are worse than silly. They harm businesses and consumers, bring in no extra public revenue, and may actually create monopolies instead of discouraging them! Such perverse competition policies are nevertheless in place in both the European Union and South Africa. In the United States, firms can be investigated for collusion by the anti trust authority only if there is physical evidence of communication about pricing strategies between competing firms. In the EU and SA, by contrast, competition authorities can investigate merely because they observe that industry prices aren t at competitive equilibrium. So what is supposed to happen, under the latter regime, when competitive equilibrium and Nash equilibrium don t coincide? This implies that at least one firm must sacrifice some profits to deter the authority from investigating. It would be inefficient if all firms in the industry so sacrificed at all times. For maximum industry profits, one firm at a time should price away from equilibrium and be compensated by the others. Thus we have it that as a result of (badly theorized) competition policy policy explicitly designed to deter collusion we get incentives to

Nareg D Mr. Haveron Final Essay 16 March 2015 Medical Differences between the Civil War and Spanish American War The nineteenth century held one of the most medically appalling wars, as well as one of the most medically innovative wars. The Civil war is considered a terrible time period for medical equipment as well as surgeons. Many soldiers who had been fighting in the Civil War were killed by sicknesses including diarrhea and pneumonia. Surgeons, who had minimum medical experience, were taking care of the wounded soldiers at the time. The idea of sanitizing and sterilizing equipment that was used on a patient beforehand was not known by the inexperienced surgeons. Only a few years later came the Spanish American war, which showed a vast improvement in the medical field. During the Spanish American War many important inventions were created. These include the invention of the x ray, the discovery of the germ theory, and the discovery of the antiseptic method. Both of these discoveries made it much easier for Surgeons to operate on the wounded soldiers. Another beneficial factor that made the Spanish American War more medically advanced then the civil war was the service of female nurses. The Nurses provided a lot of help for the surgeons at times when there was a lot of work, and assistance was needed. It is clear that the medicinal techniques used during the Civil War were much less advanced than those used during the Spanish American War. The North
