Music And Culture Of Los Angeles
At the beginning of the twenty first century, popular music and culture became
significant influences on the lives of many individuals within the city of Los
Angeles. East Los Angeles ( East L.A. or the Eastside ), in particular, was a center of
flourishing musical, cultural, and social scenes with strong connections to the
changing Chicano/a identity. Under this environment in which the Chicano movement
(moviemiento) continued to prevail, a large number of socially aware and politically
active, Latin fusion Chicano bands were developed. One of such was the Ozomatli
band, who strived to express their activist viewpoints through popular music. The
spatial context of the band s emergence, their links to past musical movements, and
their implementation of a wide array of musical styles and genres all define their
impact on Chicano identity in Los Angeles. Through their music, the Ozomatli
band has showed much about the importance of the changing Chicano culture and
served as the framework for cultural and social dynamics of present day Los
Angeles. Ozomatli, which originated in Los Angeles, California, is a six piece (six
person), all male band that was formed in 1995. The name Ozomatli is derived
from the Nahuatl (Uto Aztecan language) word for the Aztec god of dance who is
represented as a monkey figure in the famous Aztec Sun Stone ( The Battle of Los
Angeles 725). This band plays a variety and mixture of genres, from classic to
modern Latino, urban, hip hop and
Renaissance Women And Education
During the European Renaissance, a debate arose concerning whether women should
be allowed to receive an education in the universities. This literary and philosophical
debate, known as the Querelle de Femmes, eventually evolved into a wider dispute
regarding the nature of women and their place in society. Contemporaries believed
that women were inferior to men and could be dangerous if not controlled. According
to them, a womans place was in the home playing the role of wife and mother.
However, some women began to push back against these beliefs arguing that women
deserved to receive the same education and opportunities as men.
The Querelle de Femmes gave birth to early feminist ideas from women who felt
oppressed by these misogynistic views ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As women were trying to break out of the private sphere of the home and into the
realms of politics, arts and science, there was great opposition to this. Opponents,
such as Jean Jacques Rousseau, a Swiss born philosopher and social theorist of the
18th century, thought that women should be passive, weak, and subordinate to man.
In his writing Emile: or On Education, Rousseau depicted the ideal woman to be
mindless, unintelligent creatures who existed only to serve man and to care for her
home and children. Therefore, a woman did not need a high level of education to
perform this function. Despite society s resistance to women s participation in the
arts and sciences, several women managed to make major contributions in these
fields.
Ultimately the significance of the Querelle des Femmes was that it was the vehicle
through which early feminist ideas evolved. The early feminist theorists of the
Querelle unknowingly set in motion the chain of events that would lead to
tremendous transformation in women s rights. These ideas would evolve and
reemerge later in the modern era to inspire the women s movements that took place
after the French Revolution, opening the doors for women worldwide and paving the
way for the progression of modern day
Analysis Of The Hunger Games
Let me start off by saying, DEREK AND MEREDITH WERE DESTINED TO BE
TOGETHER AND LIVE A HAPPY LIFE . If you ask the spectators of the show
what they think about Shonda Rhimes and her decisions in regards to her show,
their first response might be that Shonda Rhimes might just be the most heartless
and evil woman on this earth. Grey s Anatomy involves real life situations in which
people (in this case the actors) have to learn to trust one another and ask them for
help and support. The unity that is shown most of the time on the show is
heartwarming. From season to season the viewers are taken into an emotional
rollercoaster in which we never see what s coming next. Every episode for the most
part may be argued to follow the same sequence in which it starts normal and then
BOOM something happens and everyone or at least the ones involve put on their
gear and work together to solve it and it s those moments that grab the audience s full
attention. The bonds created between the characters make it seem for everyone to
have that happiness, loyalty, loveand more in their lives. The meaning of friendship,
love and family are constantly being questioned but until now they have been able to
overcome any obstacle put on their way.
The first three movies of the Hunger Games sequel are very captivating to the
viewers. The suspense of what will happen to Peeta and Katniss throughout the
sequel makes the audience want to 1) read the book and find out what happens since

The Importance Of Persuasive Essay On Human Life
When a person s pet gets sick or injured to the point of them dying, most often the
owner will end its suffering by putting it down. Either the owner will take the matter
into his/her hands and personally kill the animal, or the person will take it to the vet
and have the vet put the animal to sleep. Who is to say that an animal should have
the right to a peaceful, legal deathbut humans cannot? Why is it that a vet has the
right to murder an animal, but a licensed doctor doesn t have the right to do their
jobs? Doctors try their best to help their patients and if the only way to help a person
is by letting him/her end his or her life, then it should be the patient s right to do so
(Vermont).
Some say that this law should not be changed because it might pressure the patients
into wanting to take their lives, but this is false. If someone was in so much pain
that he wanted to take his life, then he would end the suffering regardless if he is
prescribed a pill or not. Suicide is not illegal, but knowing about someone planning
to commit suicide is. This leads to all of these sick people committing suicide and
not have the chance to give a proper good bye to their loved ones. By having this
law in place, families of these patients never get a proper closure (Vermont).
The decision to end one s life is completely up to that person, and the same goes for
when someone decides to take part in assisted suicide. There are several states that
have legalized assisted suicide in the
Dehumanization In Night By Elie Wiesel
Throughout our daily lives, we are consistently presented with news of fear and
death. However, these events are so numb to people because people believe there is
nothing that can be done, nor do they have room in heart to even try to make
changes. Elie Wiesel s Night demonstrates many of the horrendous conditions of the
Jews. From being burned alive in the crematories, to being shot right on the spot, the
S.S soldiers had no remorse towards the Jews. In spite of their persecution, the Jews
showed immense devotion to their religion and remained faithful to their God. It
seems as if in spite of harsh situations, the capability of our greatness can be most
exhibited in tough times. Wiesel constantly depicts the harsh and brutal conditions of
the concentration camps. The dehumanization of the Jews seemed almost unreal after
reading all of the brutal encounters of death. Night focuses on multiple themes:
silence, inhumanity to others, and father/son bonding. Wiesel struggles with his faith
throughout the story and believes that God is everywhere, and he cannot understand
how God could let this happen, especially as Wiesel faces conflict everyday in the
concentration camp. He says it is God s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He cannot understand why they do not fight back, even with the inhumanity that is
forced upon them. There is a transformation of character in the Jews as they become
animalized and start to behave inhumane. It is because of this inhumanity that he
loses faith, not only in God but also in other people. There is a drastic change from
the beginning and end story. At the beginning, Wiesel thought the Germans were
distant but friendly. However, when they reach the camps, the soldiers transformed
from men to monsters because of the cruel ways the Germans began to treat them.
This leads to moral lessons and how, Wiesel s love and bond for his father is

I Felt Like Making A Deep Breath Of Fresh Air
It is my impression that a poem is complicated, obscure, and must have deep
meaning. However, after reading William Carlos Williams poems, I felt like
making a deep breath of fresh air. It was the first time I felt that poems could be
simple like this. In his poems, everything is expressed in simple words. Even a
reader as me, an international student, could understand his words easily. Also, the
images he described are the common but neglected scenes. Nonetheless, when I
closed the book, some of the images overlapped with my memory. It seemed like
something happened before in my experience but I ignored. The fragments now
look so beautiful. I especially like his poems To a Poor Old Woman, Poem, and
Her Daughter. These three poems help me to find the beauty around me, help me
to change a direction to see the world, help me to appreciate. In the poem To a Poor
Old Woman, Williams described an old woman eating plums on the street.
Munching a plum on the street a paper bag of them in her hand. I was laughing
when I read this. Eagerly eating something on the street, I believe it happened in
many people s life. For example, I have a nice memory of eating a hot roast sweet
potato on the street in a cold winter afternoon. However, some people think eating
on the street is impolite and unsightly. In New York, eating on the street even is
illegal in some residential neighborhoods. For an poor old woman in the poem, she
might had no free time or a spacious dining room to enjoy her
Understanding The Premise Of Jesus Christ
Understanding the Premise of Jesus Christ
Belief in Jesus Christ is the basis of Christian religion, this figure is important to
study because not only is Jesus the son of God, but he serves as Priest, Prophet, and
King to humanity. These are all important attributes to have since Jesus acts as the
mediator between the Father and Humankind. Without Jesus there would be no
forgiveness of sins, knowledge of God himself, or listener of prayers. To fully
understand the importance of Jesus s role in the Christian faith there are several
aspects that need to be further discussed, including, Jesus s role in the Holy Trinity,
the atonement, eschatology and the incarnation. Once these aspects can be
comprehended a person can create their own opinion on how to understand and
worship Jesus, what is the true meaning of Jesus s humanity and how Jesus lived his
life versus how his followers live theirs.
Jesus and the Trinity The Holy Trinity is composed of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit. These three entities create the overall being of God. In this Jesus plays
the role of the Son, but that does not mean he is not also God. Jesus is sent to walk
among humankind with the body and life of a simple carpenter s son, but also to be
the physical embodiment of the divine Son. According to Zahniser, it is necessary for
Jesus to walk on earth because as the communicator he must become one with those
he wishes to communicate with (Zahniser, 1989). For the communication to be
Battered Women s Syndrome As A Legal Defense
Abstract
In this analysis, I will attempt to cover the basis of Battered Women s Syndrome
as a legal defense. This will cover the historical context of Battered Women s
Syndrome as a legal defense, which will of course require a brief review of what
battered women s syndrome is by using experts in the field, usually psychologists.
When reviewing the historical context of such a subversive topic, it is essential to
the structure that we look at actual cases involving battered women such as abuse
being reported and cases that have actually been brought to trial as well as the
ending verdicts as the factors that may have caused the outcome. We must also look
at different cases as to which the defense was used, such as situations where a
battered women s husband was sleeping, or any other relative situation as to which
there was question of the imminence of a threat.
An Empirical Political Analysis of Battered Women s Syndrome as a Legal Defense
Before looking at the use of battered women s syndrome as a legal defense, it
would help to look at the definition of who exactly a battered woman is. In Daniel
Saunders research of rates of husband and wife violence, he uses the term battered
women in the broad sense to mean female recipients of any form of physical force
that is intended to hurt. Therefore, Battered Women s Syndrome is the name given to
the measurable psychological changes that may occur after prolonged terms of abuse
and is considered a subgroup of
Hasbro International Case Study
Economic systems or organizations that are involved in the exchange of goods and
services in any economy have a common objective and that is to make profit.
Individual, corporations and enterprises of different kinds around the world are
tasked to ensure that they are continually relevant. Any business in a market must
ensure it analyses its market and the factors that affect it directly and indirectly. It is
true that every successful business in the country and worldwide today must follow

had a positive impact on the growth of the company considering the role they have in
the corporation and the input on product ideas.
The company has gone through many transitions since its inception and in seven
years time will be a century old. Through systematic planning, implementation,
controlling and motorization, Hasbro has an organization of proper management
strategies. One of the key pillars that led to the growth and expansion of the company
was the human resource element. Hasbro as an organization has had a well
established and coordinated human resource department that has had a positive
impact to its growth (Madsen Trinh, 2015). Research has shown that good relations
between the employees and the management defines the future of an organization.

The Importance Of Web Application
A single page application (SPA) as name suggest is a web application which will fit
in a single web page and acts as a source for rest of the application. Various end user
interactions are possible via HTML, CSS, JavaScript. For most of the part,
development happens on the front end in comparison to traditional web applications
which depend heavily on server side interactions to reload new web pagecontent. SPA
just keeps all the data and the associated business logic in the front end i.e. it works
with local storage of browser. Server side interactions are somewhat limited. These
interactions are performed for requesting any information via API s present in server
side of application.

Web applications use HTTP protocol in order to communicate between client and
server. It uses different methods such as GET, POST, PUT, DELETE. These request
methods are important concepts to be understood as they allow application to request
resources from client. These methods are discussed briefly below:
a.GET
In GET method application request resources using Request URI. URI is a
combination of URL i.e. Uniform Resource Locator URN i.e. Uniform Resource

b.POST
In POST method, data is enclosed in message body and server handles request based
on Request URI.
c.PUT
PUT method stores the data in the message body of Request URI.
d.DELETE
DELETE method deletes a resource from server identified by Request URI. 2. DOM
The Document Object Model (DOM) is an interface between HTML and XML
documents. It consists of nodes and objects arranged in logical sequence to form any
HTML webpage. It defines parent child relationship between various elements. It also
provides access to Javascript for manipulating the document structure and content.
3. XMLHttpRequest
It is an API which helps in communication between client and server to access
resources even after web page is completely loaded in browser. It allows to update
web page without reloading it completely.

Poverty.
In Bradford County there is a major problem with poverty. Poverty is defined as the
level of income considered extremely poor. In Bradford County the poverty rate is
20.6 percent which is significantly higher than the 13.5 percent national poverty rate.
Both immigrants and citizens who are faced with povertyhave little or no means of
support. People who live in poverty are faced with starvation, lack of healthcare,
lack of clothing and housing. Because of the poverty rate and lack of resources for
the poor, Bradford County needs a shelter. A shelter can offer a temporary home for

also offer programs for mental illness and addictions. Bathing facilities offered in
shelters are essential to better health. This helps to limit the spread of chronic
illnesses from uncleanliness and being exposed to the elements such as weather.
Shelters provide volunteer opportunities to those in the community. Volunteers from
schools or career programs help the community by placing people in administrative
jobs and service work that benefit the needy. Many schools require students to have

Beethoven Concert Symphony No 6
BEETHOVEN CONCERTS
The Pastorale Symphony and the Emperor Piano Concerto, one named by Ludwig
van Beethoven and the other by a friend, are splendid examples of Beethoven s
musical acumen. These pieces are more formally known as Beethoven s Symphony
No. 6 and Piano Concerto No. 5. This concert report will cover both pieces and will
contain my impressions of each piece. Symphony No. 6 Pastorale was performed by
the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and was conducted by Paavo Jarvi

Murray Perahia (Piano) accompanied by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields,

The five movements of Beethoven s Symphony No. 6 Pastorale draw listeners in
with a quick, but leisurely tempo and rich developed movements. The symphony
seemingly flows and fits the titles beautifully. It is easy to paint a picture of a noble
countryside, nature, and all the activities it entails.
Beethoven s Piano Concerto No.5 Emperor is a three part traditional concerto, an
Allegro, Adagio, and the Rondo. This concerto was named Emperor because of the
powerful themes and heroic note of the composition (www.all about beethoven.com
/concerto5.html).
The opening of the concerto brings a main theme introduced by a solo piano with
the full orchestra providing a dramatic presence of several chords. The piano
flourishes grow in length until reaching a cadenza after the third time. The full
orchestra joins in and carries the theme into the full exposition. The theme is bold
with a pleasant interjection of a second subject that seems to tiptoe through the
movement. The orchestra stays in the tonic key as the piano modulates and reaches
a wide variety of tones as the scales are worked. The development of the movement
effectively flips the lead. The orchestra now leads and the piano accompanies. The
main theme rhythm is reinforced by a powerful bassoon. The coda is lead by horns
and joined by the rest of the orchestra to a thrilling close.
The second movement is a slow movement and begins quietly
Argumentative Essay On The Catcher In The Rye
It killed me, it really did. Remember this phrase from somewhere? It s the line
Holden Caulfield says every time in the iconic novel; The Catcher in the Rye.
Since the book was published in 1951 by J.D. Salinger, many people from all over
the world have loved it. This book was even carried by the killer of John Lennon,
and was banned in the past. The protagonist Holden Caulfieldis a 16 year old boy who
has just gotten expelled from his Prep school. And until the end, the story is has
been about Holden s journey in New York City. He s alone. He does have a family
and parents, but he hardly has any contact with them. It makes him lonelier and

Which Provides A More Accurate View of the Global
Economy
According to dependency theory, governance of the global economy has been
marked by asymmetry and skewed in favour of developed countries and
multinational corporations while developing countries survive at the margins . This
essay will seek to examine the basis for this point by extracting examples from the
real world and comparing the theory with the neoliberal theory in providing a more
accurate view of the global economy. In defining the global economy, there are a few
key ideas that one could adopt including dependency theory and neoliberal theory. In
the age of globalization, the global economy is conditioned by the innovation and
production of manufactured goods. One of the backwashes of capitalism is the birth

The NIEO aims at creating a balance and just trade system between countries in

Prebisch states that international exploitation of trade is caused by the trade

trade barriers such as tariffs and taxes should be implemented so that a certain

Uplifting Book Of Psalms
I would have to say that there are several divisions of Psalms that I like to read and
quote. To me, the Book of Psalms is an uplifting book for me. A few that I enjoy are
Psalms 23:1 6; 24:1 10; 27:1 3; 100:1 5 (Bible, KJV). My favorite is Psalms Division
46:1 11. This to me, this lets me know that Godis fighting on my behalf. He s going
to intercede between me and the problem if I seek Him.
No matter what the adversity may be, God wants you to know that He is sufficient,
that He is enough, and that He can handle it if we allow Him too. Many times as
Christians, we ask God to handle a problem or situation for us, but yet we don t
allow Him to fully have control of that situation. All He is wanting us to acknowledge

Polar Bear Arguments
The Ursus Maritimus, otherwise known as the polar bear, has walked this planet with
their massive webbed paws for hundreds of years. They have sustained many different
difficulties in life but the most recent issue, global warming, is one that these animals
just might not overcome on their own. The polar bears population is rapidly
dwindling and scientists discuss why exactly we should save these giant white sea
bears. There are two different sides to this argument. One side is referred to as the
Naturalists. These people believe we need to let nature take its course. They believe
we should not interfere, and instead let the animals and the ecosystem work on its
own. On the other hand, the Anti Naturalists believe we must step in and help
preserve the polar bearpopulation. They believe that we cannot let the Ursus
Maritimus die out for a various array of reasons.
The first reason for saving the polar bears given by the Anti Naturalists is the effect
on the food chain. In the artic, the polar bear is one of the few creatures at the very
top, it is a keystone species. Polar bear s diets consist mainly of one specific marine
mammal, the seal. Without the polar bear the entire population of the seal would rise
significantly. With no predators to lower the population there would be a skyrocket
amount of growth and a very small amount of death. This means that the diet of the
seal, which mainly consists of small fish and plankton, would also be affected
negatively. A large

U.S Bureau of Labor Statics, employment opportunities for diesel mechanics will

those who are starting or advancing in the field. This will also depend on the
mechanic s certification. The higher is it the more advancement opportunities will

Having good working ethics is a major key to have, having a good reputation can
get a mechanic far. Ethics in the automotive field can mean putting tools back in

How Did King James Impact On English
King James I and IV James Charles Stuart was King of Scotland from 1567 to 1625
and King of England from 1603 to 1625 (Mathew). James mother, Mary, queen of
Scots, was forced to abdicate in 1567, making James the King of Scotland. King
James is also known for translating the Bible into English in 1602, finishing the
process in 1611. Since the Bible was translated, it has allowed a larger variety of
people to understand religion. Although King James was not very religious, he was
a great Christian influencer because he translated the Bible into the English
language which allowed the commoners to not only read the Bible, but also have a
closer relationship to God. Ironically, King James was not that religious, but he had
a great impact on the Christian people. In addition, James famously oversaw a new
authorized English translation of the Bible, published in 1611, which became known
as the King James Version (Mathew). In 1602, King James began translating the
Bible into the English language, allowing the Christian community to be able to
completely understand the Bible. Above all, One of James s great contributions to
England was the Authorised King James s Version of the bible (1611) which was to
become the standard text for more than 250 years ( James I and VI (1566 1625 ).
Ultimately, King James had an immense impact on the Christian society due to the
translation, he also greatly impacted England at the same time. By translating the

Communism And Its Effect On Society
I was often told as a child that humans share the same thing in common as each other
and that was our future destinations. Growing up, I ended up brushing off the
thought, since I believed it was nothing but an artificial excuse to scare me into
doing well in life. Sadly after all these years, I regret not taking the matter seriously
because eventually, I understood what our destination really was the hard way.
You see, the city of Panem is a vast monotony of ancient glass and marble shaped

Science Merit And Scientific Merit
Unit 10 DB 1 Concept of Scientific Merit Introduction As future scholars, we tend
to hear a lot about Scientific Merit. But, that same old question might pop in our
mines, which is should this learner even care or worry about scientific merit? We
are told that without any scientific merit, that our research that we have worked so
hard on cannot be considered a valid research without it, and if we are at the end
part of our schooling/studies, and hope to receive an approval from the IRB for
our research proposal, that will not happen if it is missing. Therefore, within this
paper, we will discuss scientific merits, explain the dimensions of scientific merit,
discuss the aspects of the study that was chosen for the Scientific Merit, and
choose an area of scientific merit that we could have improved. Scientific merit
Scientific merit is considered as a way to examine if our research study represents
good science. Therefore, we will need to make sure that any research we are
working on, clearly states the research questions and its overall objectives. The
research should also include the contextual data that will also have peer reviewed
literature to support why the research is needed. We also should make sure that if
human beings are being used as participants, that their privacy and safety will be

benefit and risks whether indirect or direct for the partakers in the study needs to be

Architecture, Art, Literature
Initially Rome, like the neuvo riche of many societies, coveted the wealth and
trappings of it s more civilized Greek neighbors. Additionally, came Greek teachers
and ideas which helped form and influence the minds of succeeding generations. By
the time that Rome became masters of the Mediterranean, schools, Libraries,
architecture, and art began began to appear and even surpass those of Greece.
He encouraged the natives to adopt the arts of civilization. He formed a school at

The whole literature of this period was inspired with a growing spirit of patriotism,
and an appreciation of Rome as the great ruler of the world
(Morey, 1901f, Par. Patronage of Literature).
Government
Rome like Carthage traces it s founding myth back to the Phoneticians of Tyre and
shared many of the same governmental structures as Carthage with a Senate,
assemblies, etc (Duncan, 2016). Undoubtedly it was influence by the Greeks, however
it grew beyond the simple city states of Greece. It was the evolution of Roman
government which differentiated themselves and allowed them to eventually surpass
their Greek neighbors.
Military
Early Rome was a warrior people whose success was founded not just based on that
of their military but their ability to adapt and absorb the military strategies and tactics
of those they fought. The navel vessels via the Carthaginians where derived from the
Greek triremes, and even the formations hearken back to the Trojan phalanx. They
took what worked, improved it and made them their own.

History Behind Lord Stanley Cup
History Behind Lord Stanley
The Lord Stanley Cup. The oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in
North America and the greatest thing NHL hockey players dream of to hoist and
kiss after a season. Training, practicing, motivation and pushing themselves to get
better is what all these players put the hours into for that moment. After battling 82
games for a playoff spot, then continuing to win 4 playoff rounds, of best of seven
series, they finally get to have the moment they ve all been working and dreaming
for as a kid. To raise the Cup, kiss it, scream, and then pass it to your fellow

In 1927 1928, a new structure was streamlined and a vertical shape of the Cup was
used and by 1948, the Cup became to tall to hold as well as even stand up without
tipping over. This Cup was changed to what we see today with the wider rings at
the bottom standing at 35 inches tall and 17 inches wide. Since 1958, 5 new rings
were added around the base of the Cup for championship teams, which means rings
had to be removed to maintain the structure of the Cup. The rings that get removed
and preserved in Lord Stanley s Vault in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. This
ends the evolution of what the Cup is today and we can now see all the alterations
done over the years, plus see how the NHL has kept all the history of the cup either
on the cup or in Lord Stanley s Vault so none of the history is forgotten or left behind.
Next, I will talk about the history behind how the Stanley Cup was nicknamed Lord
Stanley , how the cup is engraved and what the Cup does to help others. The
original cup was bought for roughly $50 and donated from a man named Sir
Frederick Arthur Stanley. Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley was a Colonial Secretary
from 1885 1886 and the Governor General of Canada from 1888 1893, plus an avid
sportsman. In 1892, he donated the cup and said, I have for some time been
thinking that it would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup which should be
held from year to year by the champion hockey team in the Dominion of Canada.

Heroism In Jackie Robinson
He was bombarded with death threats for who he was. He was punched so hard he
was left with a bloody seven inch gash on the side of his face. Even his teammates
did not want to be associated with him anymore. Through this unbearable torture, he
still did not shed a single tear. This story belongs to Jackie Robinson, a home run
hero.Jackie Robinson, number forty two, is looked back on as a hero that was an
immense part of baseball;Robinson was known for the incredible heroism he
showed in baseball and in his community through his fifty three years of life. Using
information from, What is Heroism, and, How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball,
The reader learns that Jackie Robinson s heroism is shown from his fight against
the social norms of an era filled with discrimination, his courage when people tried
to hurt him spiritually and physically, and his personal and his professional sacrifices
to be part of baseball.
First of all, Jackie Robinson showed and proved his heroism for how he went
against the social norms to be the first African American to play in a previously all
white sport;the courage required to break this barrier is an example of social
heroism. In What is Heroism? it states, Yet social heroism is costly in its own way,
often involving loss of credibility or financial stability, lower social status, arrest,
torture, risks to family, and, in some cases, death. This statement rings true to Jackie
Robinson because, when Jackie went against the strict views of racist baseball
players and fans, he risked everything that the evidence stated! In the text, How
Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball, the hero broke the color barrier by joining Major
League Baseball, a professional sport. This hero defied discrimination at a time when
people of color were not allowed to play baseball. He did not accept the racist idea of
what a professional baseball player should look like cause he just wanted to be a part
of baseball.
Another way Jackie Robinson validates and shows his heroism is by having a
significant amount of courage when many people were against him because of
segregation. In the text, What is Heroism the author defines courage as, ...individual s
commitment to a noble purpose and the
Cell Phone Radiation May Help Alzheimer s Disease Essay
Every 71 seconds in this country, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease
and in a startling new report out today from the Alzheimer s Association, predicts that
one out of every eight baby boomers or almost 10 milllion Americans is expected to
develop this disease, (Mckenzie). The University of South Florida has led a study
along with the Alzheimer s Disease Research Center which has abandoned the idea
that cell phone radiation is detrimental to our health. The experiment studied the
effects of cell phones on Alzheimer s. Professor Arendash, started this study by
noticing that the students in the hallway of the university had cell phones plastered
to their ears. He set up the experiment with lab mice, beaming electromagnetic...

These mice kept strong memories and performed just as well as normal mice
which suggests that the radiation could have protected their memories. Mice, who
were transgenic, began the radiation treatment at five months old when memories
had begun to deteriorate. In such cases, the radiation seemed to stop further
memory loss and in some mice, the radiation may have reversed the memory loss.
According to the health physics society, radiation is an energy that comes from a
source and travels through space which may be able to penetrate various materials.
In the past few weeks of our chemistry class I have learned that atoms whom have
an unstable nuclei are radioactive, these atoms give off excess energy which are
radiation rays. Radiation varies from gamma, beta, and alpha rays. Gamma rays
have the shortest wavelengths and highest frequencies. Gamma rays are the most
energetic form of light produced by the hottest regions of the universe and emitted
by the nucleus of radioactive atoms. Because of this, gamma rays are used to
penetrate tissue property, such as in the use of CT scans, and radiation therapy.
Alpha particles are also ejected by the nuclei of unstable atoms; however, they are
large and consist of two protons and two neutrons. Although alpha particles have a
high mass, they are the most destructive form of radiation with a low penetrating
force; a single piece of paper can block alpha particles. Beta particles are much

Myoblast Fusion Research Paper
Abstract:
The formation of multinucleated muscle cells through cell cell fusion is a conserved
process from fruit flies to humans. Numerous studies have shown the importance of
Arp2/3, its regulators, and branched actin for the formation of an actin structure, the F
actin focus, at the fusion site. This F actin focus forms the core of an invasive
podosome like structure that is required for myoblast fusion. In this study, we find
that the formin Diaphanous (Dia), which nucleates and facilitates the elongation of
actin filaments, is essential for Drosophila myoblast fusion. Following cell
recognition and adhesion, Dia is enriched at the myoblast fusion site, concomitant
with, and having the same dynamics as, the F actin focus. Using different ... Show

While Arp2/3 can nucleate F actin filaments de novo, it does this slowly [32]. The
presence of pre existing filaments accelerates Arp2/3 s ability to form branched F
actin [33]. Formins, another group of actin regulators, complement the activity of
Arp2/3 by generating linear actin filaments. Studies have revealed both collaborative
and antagonistic relationships between members of the WAVE regulatory complex,
Arp2/3, and formins. As examples, Abi, a member of the WAVE complex, has been
shown to interact with the formin mDia1 to positively regulate cell cell adhesion in
tissue culture cells [34]. In contrast, mDia2, WAVE, and Arp2/3 have been shown to
form a multimeric complex, which inhibits mDia2 dependent filopodium formation
in cultured cells [35]. Arp 2/3 and formins often act together in different in vivo
contexts, including pseudocleavage furrow formation, cytokinesis, and filopodia
formation in Drosophila primary neurons [36,37]. Particularly relevant for our studies
in myoblast fusion are the findings that, in cancer cells and macrophages, Arp2/3 and
formins are required for the formation of podosomes, which resemble the invasive
structure at the myoblast fusion site [21,38,39]. How Arp2/3 and formins interact to
regulate actin dynamics in different in vivo contexts, particularly myoblast fusion,

The Pros And Cons Of The WWII
Even though the United States emerged as a clear victor of World War I, many
Americans after the war felt that their involvement in the conflict had been a mistake
(Markus Schoof, The American Experience During World War II, slide 3). This
belief, however, did not deter the country from engaging in many other international
affairs in the future, most importantly the WWII and the Cold War. Right from the
Manifest Destiny, which led to expand its empire at home and abroad, to the World
War I, the country had come a long way from being somewhat a lonely land to a
global superpower of the 20th century. Its influence in the international arena grew
unprecedently after its commitment to the World War II, and like they say, the rest is
history. If the WWII was a resounding success to the American legacy, what followed,
the Cold War, put many implications on the American diplomatic relations with the
Soviet Unionand to the world. Although the rising Fascism in Europe and the
Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor drove the U.S. to enter the WWII, historians over
the years have laid equal blames on both nations for starting the Cold War. These two
events helped in shaping up many domestic and foreign policies for the U.S.
It is interesting how the U.S. decided to fight world war for the second time despite
many oppositions. As mentioned above, the U.S. collusion in the World War I
brought mixed reactions among the citizens about the wars in general. On the other
hand, the country was
The Notion Of Lex Sportiva
The notion of Lex Sportiva in many ways mirrors the nature of the debate regarding
its subject matter. Two academic schools of thought have debated since the 1980 s
as to to the role of national legal systems within sporting contexts. More recently
however, the debate has changed to one which questions the validity of Lex Sportiva
or global sports as a genuinely distinguishable, and unique branch of law. As Gianni
Infantino has suggested both politicians and legal scholars have discussed the much
vexed question of the so called sporting exception. Academic Ken Foster has claimed
that Lex Sportiva is even more niche, arguing that legal principles applied to sporting
circumstances do not necessarily amount to the formation of Lex... Show more

As Siekmann and Soek have suggested the CAS is responsible for the development
of a new and useful jurisprudence derived from its awards . One could justifiably
argue that the CAS fills the gap between sporting governing bodies and traditional
legal systems in the sense it will hear matters of purely sporting significance.
Simply, those cases that do not fall within the remit of traditional legal judgements.
This somewhat intermediary role is illustrated in Football Association of Serbia v.
UEFA, in which the Serbian football association wished to contest the awarding of
a point sanction during qualifying for the 2016 European Championships. Clearly
in this case there is no breach of European community law. Yet, the CAS enables a
bespoke service to challenge sporting judgements regardless of the opinion of
traditional legal systems. Therefore one may justifiably argue that the CAS is a
quasi judicial body that successfully provides a reference on the unique nature of
sporting regulation and codification. However as James has suggested The UK has
no formal definition of sport and consequently no formal definition of sports law
perhaps meaning that lex Sportiva is a not as clearly defined as previously
assumed. As late as the 1980 s the laws relationship with sporting contexts was
typified by a piece meal, ad hoc approach to legislation

It s not worth considering, it ll waste precious time in a limited day to give her the

Ore-Ida Tater Tot Analysis
What is so Special about Ore Ida Tater Tots? There are many techniques that
advertisers use in the creation of advertisements in order to catch people s
attention and spark their interest in a certain product. Advertising influences
people using pictures, humor, and the psychological need for food. However,
these are not always successful tactics for initiating interest in purchasing an item.
An advertisement promoting Ore Ida tater tots is one example of a company who
incorporated those various techniques, but in my opinion was not very successful.
A young girl with a skeptical look on her face is pictured sitting at a table, holding
up a white piece of paper with one hand. There are horizontal lines drawn on the
paper half an inch apart. Sitting just in front of the paper, on a plate, are four tater

Those supporting firearm control contend that in the event that we confine weapons
then murder and wrongdoing rates will drop. Be that as it may, until we tackle the
disdain on the planet there will dependably be wrongdoing and murdering. Hoodlums
will discover different weapons or figure out how to get firearms wrongfully.
Contemplates demonstrate that in ranges with more weapon laws, wrongdoing is
higher. Until we can begin getting serious about the individuals who perpetrate
violations, firearm laws can do nothing to offer assistance. It is not the weapon that
executes, but rather the individual pulling the trigger. Samuel Jackson said, I don t
think it s about more gun control, I grew up in the south with guns everywhere and we
never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren t taught the value of life.
The individuals who advocate weapon control have contended that 66% of murders
are conferred with a gun (Zimring 1978). Be that as it may, even with weapon control,
manslaughters would assuredly proceed with in light of human instinct (Zimring
1978). Killers would simply swing to another weapon and we would see more
manslaughters conferred with blades, tomahawks, clubs, or different weapons
(Zimring 1978). In the event that somebody needs to execute sufficiently gravely for
all intents and purposes anything can be transformed into a weapon. This can be
demonstrated by insights that
Analyzing The Play The Marriage Of Figaro
Comedy comes in different genres. Certain comedy is just to make somebody look
ridiculous without a real purpose, while comedy in other cases is hiding something
that is an underlying problem. Comedy is often used as a tool to come across with a
serious point where the critique is shown in a way that emphasizes the problem in a
humoristic way. In the beginning stages of the French revolution, there remained a
critique of the French society. This critique is expressed in the comedyThe Marriage

The author is trying to put focus on the gender, class, monetary power and political
power as a critique of the French society. The author is trying to equalize the rights
between the social classes in the society, which was the general idea that the
French society was headed. The author uses different tool kits to express his ideas.
First of all, the play is taking place in Spain since the play happened to be illegal in
French due to its criticism. Another tool kit the author uses is comedy. He uses
comedy to create comedy of the differences there were in the society at that time of
the French society. The distribution of power is made humoristic in a way that
shows that the power the Count has does not always succeed to be performed

Also the comedy of the monetary power is to show that the society is corrupt, with
the example of the court case. Although a critique of a society should not be
humorous, the comedy in this play is only strengthening the play in a way that
enables the author to juggle around with the importance of each character. He plays
around with the power of people in a way that gives the greatest powerful character
the least power character and vice versa. This is an effective way of expressing his
critique by making the most significant people in the society look silly. Additionally,

The Impact Of Air Bags On The Field Of Biomechanics
Along...
Contributions with the field of biomechanics along with advancements in
technology have led to improvements in the general and public safety pertaining to
motor vehicles. Air bags have reduced mortality rates in motor vehicle accidents
significantly throughout the years. Air bags have undergone development for
many years, first being introduced in the 1960 s with the release of the first
commercial air bag in the 1980 s appearing in motor vehicles. Air bags have been a
subject of research and tests throughout the years currently still evolving. Through
studies and research collected, air bags have shown to be a beneficial innovation
to the health and safety of the public. Air bags are intended to provide maximum
protection to driver and passenger occupants during a collision. Head, neck, and
chest body regions are considered most vulnerable to severe trauma (Pintar,
Yoganandan, Gennarelli, 2000) . An air bag is rapidly inflated during the impact of
a collision. It is intended to serve as a cushion to the driver or passenger to prevent
or reduce severe injury. We know that moving objects possess a momentum. The
product of the mass and velocity of an object equals its momentum. Newton s first
law of motion states that an object will continue to move in its speed and direction
unless forces are acted upon. The vehicleitself along with the passengers inside
represents a moving object. Passengers inside, unless restrained or acted upon will
continue moving at the speed of
Analysis Of Morality s Progress Dale Jamieson
In Morality s progress essays on humans, other animals, and rest of nature,
Dale Jamieson argues that the zoos establishment and he against the zoos . The
strongest argument Jamieson gives for this argument is that taking animal from their
native environment to zoos they will lose their freedom. In this paper Provide an
assessment of Jamieson s argument.
Animal And liberty
Jamieson argue that put the animal in captivity And restrict their freedom . I agree
with him in this point, because animal like to live freely and Suddenly put them in
the zoos in captivity in limited area this make their live change and can t live as in
their nature and do their own activity freely . But we can put some of the animal we
need for use them for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have 33% people say yes we can put the animal in the zoos and 67% reject this
idea. 1)Amusement
Many people visit the zoos for entertainment, but Jamieson think that immoral to put
the animal in captivity to make the people happy and funny.
I agree with him here because animals are creature we should protect them and this
not necessary reason to them in the cages only for entertainment.
2)Education
Jamieson asked what education part they will educate , and he says If we are
supposed to learn about the physiology and behavior of the animals, then viewing
them locked up in cages is a backwards way of going about it in other word he said in
no benefit when we try to learn about animals.
I disagree with them because the education is important in our life . In addition I
think we can use some of animal for education , because they creatures in our life we
should learn about it .
3)Scientific Research
Jamieson suggests that very few zoos actually support scientific research, and for
those that actually have full time scientists and we have two type studies behavior of
animals and anatomy and
Essay On Flipped Classroom
Summary of Study: The flipped classroom is a learning model in which content
attainment is shifted forward to outside of class, then followed by instructor
facilitated concept application activities in class.
Summary of the Methodology: The first three phases (engage, explore, and explain)
are used to facilitate content attainment. The elaborate phase is the one in which
students apply the concepts they have constructed through the content attainment
stage, that is, the concept application phase. The non flipped condition was taught
such that engage, explore, and explain took place during the 50 min class period,
and elaborate and evaluate took place online as a homework assignment. The flipped
condition was taught using the same materials, but ... Show more content on

This could simply be due to the more frequent review of content demanded by the
structured approach.
In the study, attitudes toward the course did differ somewhat between treatments.
First, students in the flipped classroom had a more negative opinion of the use of
technology. While some of this sentiment may arise from the current platform used
by the university, technology acting as a barrier to student learning and/or satisfaction
is not new in the literature.
How can this study benefit the educational field in Malaysia : In Malaysia we still
follow the study pattern that our ancestors set decades ago. Rote learning is still
prominent in Malaysia. We only consider UPSR,.......... As scorecards and we relate
our performances solely based on these marks. We have to engage in active learning
and outside the classroom learning as well. Students have to learn to analyze
situations outside the classroom and then take help from their instructor in the
classroom. This constructive approach will surely motivate our students do better in
their studies.

Barack Obama Validity
Obama s Presidency May Be Invalid By: Tony Martin Obama s Presidency is
invalid. Documents of Obama s birth certificate and federal law at the time contradict
each other. His birth certificate shows that he should be a legal citizen while federal
law questions his legibility.
On October 28, 2008, in Pennsylvania Supreme Court Philip J. Bergs accused
Barrack Obama of being an illegal citizen causing him to lose the campaign. Bergs
believes and strongly questioned Obamas validity.
Barack Hussein Obama II was born on August 4, 1961, in Hawaii. His parents, who

further into this statement and when looked into this information follows, When a
male Indonesian citizen adopts or acknowledges a child as his son, that child is

The U.S. law neither allows dual citizenship nor intervention according to the l930

A Short Story On Hard Times And Tough Decisions
I want to tell you a short story about hard times and tough decisions. There was a
man and women who I knew very well that were deeply in love, young and stupid.
They were introduced to selling drugs, and at the time they thought it was a good
idea, and did not think of the consequences. But the money the two were bringing
in meant they could not afford to stop. They one day the two went out to a party to
sell the drugs. At the party they sold it to the wrong guy who just so happened to
be an undercover cop. The two got arrested and were sentenced to 90 days in jail to
think what they have done. The two were not allowed to see each other for six
months but they were so lost without each other. After the sentencing and their time
apart, they both vowed not to ever put each other in danger and harm s way again,
but because of their actions it became harder for them to find good paying jobs and
they slowly started to live in poverty. The reason why I told you this short story is
because no matter how rough life is, do not resort to crime or drugs. There is always
a better path to follow.
Crime has a capacity to create brutal sequences causing unemployment, economic
downturns and instability. Poverty and crime combined leave people with two
choices: either take part in criminal activities, or try to find legal ways of income
which is very difficult if having criminal records. After being rehabilitated in jail
more than 40 percent of ex cons commit crimes within three years of
What Is Meant by Saying That Accounting Information

The Framework states that the objective of financial statements is to provide
information about the financial position, performance and changes in financial
position of an entity that is useful to a wide range of users in making economic
decisions.
What is meant by saying that accounting information should be В‘decision useful ?
As stated in the AASB Framework, financial statements play an utmost important role
to a variety of users, which mainly consist of the investors, employees, lenders,
suppliers and other trade creditors, customers, governments and their agencies, as
well as the public, in making vital financial decisions. For accounting information to

Lenders are only willing to fund loans when they have the knowledge that there is an
ability to repay this principal debt at the end of the specific period and make interest
payments periodically as they fall due. As the lenders, such as the banks, are
concerned with earning returns and for a secured investment, they will in particularly
look at the amount of assets В– cash and those that will soon be converted to cash,
and to compare it against the liabilities falling due in the future ( Kloot et al., 1992,
p. 28). For a В‘protection buffer for the bank should there be any losses in the entity
that borrows, the bank will notice the amount of ownership capital (Kloot et al.,
1992).
Suppliers and other trade creditors use the financial information to rate the ability to
achieve their objectives of maximising the В‘rate of return on funds supplied
(Whittred et al, 2004). Thus, they will be interested in reports that show the ability to
pay for the liabilities as they fall due, just as how lenders will search for these specific
information. Governments and their agencies is another specific group of users
interested in abstracting information with a different objective of monitoring and
regulating an entity s activities, performance and profits, since this will affect the
nation s employment level and aids in determining the taxation policies they should
be implementing to best suit the given situation.

Alexzander The Great Leader
All throughout the course of history there have been many great leaders that led
their nation, city, tribe, or party to become important or powerful. Some of these
leaders were skilled speakers that led people in their eloquence and wisdom. Or
some of them where great warriors and generals. Other leaders were very intelligent
in science, economics, politics, or peace making. While some have been very
successful at uniting diverse cultures, races, and even whole countries. However,
one of the greatest leaders of all time possessed most of these qualities. His name
goes down in history as Alexzander the Great. To fully understand Alexzander the

and during the time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On June 13, 323 B.C. Alexzander died of malaria. The 31 year old general died,
never being able to fulfil his dream. Just a few months later Roxana had his only
child, a son. When Alexzander conquered countries and cities, he would often
sometimes let the citizens of the country or city to work in the local government.
He would also let them maintain a degree of self government. Moreover, he would
not make a conquered country or city pay harsh taxes to him. In fact, some of the
places he conquered were better of then before. this is what enabled him to not
worry too much about revolts. Also, Alexzander had good speaking abilities to make
clear to the nations he took over what he planned to do. This transparency was very
valuable, as it removed all doughts about what he planned to
Theme Of Guilt In The Seventh Man
Survivor guilt is when someone feels guilty for surviving a traumatic event when
somebody else didn t. The story The Seventh Man was told by a narrator whose
friend was killed by a wave from a tsunami. The narrator was at the beach with his
friend K, during the eye of a tsunami when all of a sudden, the waves resume. The
narrator attempts to get K s attention, but he fails to do so. The fear begins to take
over when he starts running to safety, K unfortunately didn t realize the wave until
it was too late and he was engulfed. Ever since that day, the narrator has lived his
whole life blaming himself for the death of his friend K.. If the narrator would have
tried any harder to save K he would have died as well, which is why he should
forgive himself for his failure in doing so.
Guilt can change people in many different and extreme ways, which makes sense,
but on the other hand doesn t if you never did anything wrong. Guilt takes a huge
toll on the narrator of The Seventh Man, to the point that he has to give up many
things he loves. I had always enjoyed swimming, but after that day I never even
went in a swimming pool. I wouldn t go near deep rivers or lakes. I avoided boats
and wouldn t take a plane to go abroad (Murakami 141). It seems strange for the
narrator to act this way when he didn t do anything, there wasn t anything he could
ve done differently so that K would be alive. That s why he should forgive himself
so that way he wouldn t have had to give up the things he loves, his life could have
been happier, more fulfilling, and definitely a lot happier.
As soon as he noticed that the storm was reappearing he alerted his friend, but knew
that K. was unable to hear him, which is one of the reasons K. didn t survive, some
say that the narrator shouldn t forgive himself for that reason. Saying something and
doing something are different things, some might say that just saying something
doesn t accomplish anything without actually doing something, which is why some
might argue that the narrator should feel bad for what happened to K. Sometimes
when you do something it can be the case of someone to get hurt. Captain Prior had
cleared vehicles to be sent out, the ones that killed Privet Meyke in freak
French Revolution Dbq Essay
During the Great Terror of the French Revolution, chaos erupted everywhere. King
Louis XVI had been overthrown and was replaced with the National Convention,
causing a large wave of mass paranoia between the people. Such paranoia included
being against the National Convention and the Revolution as a whole and the
consequence was getting guillotined. Many leaders that tried to step up and take
charge were ultimately forced off of power and an example of this was Robespierre,
where he was guillotined for being suspected as a rebel even though he was the one
the executions. This mass paranoia eventually led to the Dechristianization of France,
where Deism was picked up as Frances unofficial religion. In an attempt to completely
wipe Catholicism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest reason that many were against it was because of communication. In
Abbe Sieyes response to the Committee of Public Instruction s proposal for a new
calendar, he talked about how France s practices with neighboring countries, such
as trade or politics, would be extremely difficult to plan (Doc 2). It even made
confusion within France itself because of the way the four months were named.
Some of the month names made sense, such as the northern part of France having
snow during the snow months but the confusing part was that the southern parts of
France having none because of its slightly warmer climate. Because of this
inaccurate naming scheme, it caused mass confusion both within France and its
neighboring countries (Doc 3) Another example of why some were against the new
calendar was because it seen as an act of tyranny from the National Convention.
According to Pierre Joseph Denis, a former Girondin that was imprisoned during the
Great Terror and recalled to the National Convention, he stated that this new
calendar was an act of despotism and unfair since it was being forced upon the
people and that some of the festivals were detestable and silly. Pierre Joseph
criticizes the National Convention for discarding the religion of their fathers and
previous generations and putting Robespierre at the top of authority in Deism (Doc
5). Additionally, the new calendar forced the
Epilogue To Petunia
A flower for mummy, a flower for daddy, a little girl chanted merrily. Petunia was
collecting flowers from a garden deep within the confines of the forest. Her eyes
remained fixed on her bouquet as the wind blew madly through her brown silky
hair. Suddenly, almost like magic, an elderly lady appeared, her face filled with
warts and wrinkles. You rotten child! exclaimed the elderly lady, You dare pluck my
flowers with your filthy hands! The elderly lady angrily snatched the bouquet from
Petunia s hands and glared at her immensely. With every passing second, the wind s
strength intensified and the sounds of bristling trees grew louder. Petunia clueless of
what to do, shook her head as if to say she hadn t taken the flowers, but her relentless

residue underneath her fingernails. Unless... Agatha keenly looked Petunia in the
eyes, Unless, you find my wand and give it to me. Then and only then, I will lift
your curse. Petunia s eyes lit up at the mention of lifting the dreaded curse. Agatha
s smirk widened, It s very simple, there is a cottage near here, simply go inside,
take back the wand and give it to me. Agatha pointed west, The cottage is over
there, now shoo. After hastily walking down the never ending path, Petunia spotted
a small cottage amidst all the trees. At last! I ve found it! she joyfully cried. She
wearily gazed at her surroundings before gaining velocity and swiftly entering the
cottage. However much to her dismay, she was stopped by a bearded man in his
mid 60s. Whom grabbed and tied her ferociously near a boiling
A Country Of Illusion Chapter 1 Summary
In chapter 1: A Country of Illusion, Reisner describes the exploration and settlement
of the Western United States, more specifically California. Reisner explains that a
Spaniard by the name of Francisco Vasquez de Coronado explored out this way for
gold. Reisner then moves on and goes into detail about the Powell Expedition of
1869 and says that explorers found land that was dry and bare that showed no sign
of vegetation which than got the name of the Great American Desert. After the
discussion of the barren land, Reisner briefly discussed the Homestead Act and
how it affected people and how it granted access and ownership of land to people.
In Chapter 2: The Red Queen, Reisner began to describe the early settlement into
California and the water issue that most came to face but in the act of describing this

With the amount of dams being built it was seen that it could become a problem
from the amount of money being spent. Though there were many attempts to try
and stop the growth of the many dams going up all this was being fought by
President Carter but his many attempts were trumped due to bill and congress and
also the election of President Reagan. In Chapter 10: Chinatown, Reisner begins
by illustrating how there is a misunderstanding and how people say California is
this place with prolific land with its beaches and green grasses, in all reality it is
mainly semi desert terrain. Reisner than talks about the 1960 s State Water Project
and how it had affected the economy and ecology of the U.S. then to wrap it up in
line with this topic was the talk of the California Aqueduct, corporate farms, and the
low cost of water and how issue came to arise due to all the water projects and

Child Soldiers In The Military
A. Over 250,000 children are being used as soldiers for warfare. Many of them are
under the age of 18, the minimum age for recruitment of soldiers. Over 20,000
children were abducted from their families and communities. There are still many
groups yet to be known. As a child soldier, you are forced to torture others, be
tortured, and be sexually assaulted. Even as normal children, they are too immature
to realize the rights and wrongs of their actions; therefore they are easier to
manipulate. In these armies and conflicts, over 2 million children have died, 4 5
million are left disabled, and 12 million are left homeless and separated from their
families. Millions of these children have been abducted or have joined for the
promise of food and shelter/protection.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5 years ago, UNICEF partnered with partner groups to start the Zero Under 18
Campaign in order to abolish child recruitment by 2012, but that campaign clearly
did not succeed. Leila Zerrougui, the head of the Secretary General for Children
and Armed Conflict, joined with partner groups once again in aim to end the
recruitment of children by 2016 for the purpose of armed conflict. In the past,
NGOs such as Child Soldiers International and Invisible Children have gathered to
start a community awareness program in order to make the issue well known. The
African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (1990) was the first regional
treaty to establish a minimum work age. On February 12, children and youth paint
their hand red in order to raise awareness for child soldiers. The International Rescue
Committee has continuously provided immediate protection, health care, and critical
emotional support. When escapees are rescued, the IRC sends them to a camp are

  • 2. Music And Culture Of Los Angeles At the beginning of the twenty first century, popular music and culture became significant influences on the lives of many individuals within the city of Los Angeles. East Los Angeles ( East L.A. or the Eastside ), in particular, was a center of flourishing musical, cultural, and social scenes with strong connections to the changing Chicano/a identity. Under this environment in which the Chicano movement (moviemiento) continued to prevail, a large number of socially aware and politically active, Latin fusion Chicano bands were developed. One of such was the Ozomatli band, who strived to express their activist viewpoints through popular music. The spatial context of the band s emergence, their links to past musical movements, and their implementation of a wide array of musical styles and genres all define their impact on Chicano identity in Los Angeles. Through their music, the Ozomatli band has showed much about the importance of the changing Chicano culture and served as the framework for cultural and social dynamics of present day Los Angeles. Ozomatli, which originated in Los Angeles, California, is a six piece (six person), all male band that was formed in 1995. The name Ozomatli is derived from the Nahuatl (Uto Aztecan language) word for the Aztec god of dance who is represented as a monkey figure in the famous Aztec Sun Stone ( The Battle of Los Angeles 725). This band plays a variety and mixture of genres, from classic to modern Latino, urban, hip hop and
  • 3. Renaissance Women And Education During the European Renaissance, a debate arose concerning whether women should be allowed to receive an education in the universities. This literary and philosophical debate, known as the Querelle de Femmes, eventually evolved into a wider dispute regarding the nature of women and their place in society. Contemporaries believed that women were inferior to men and could be dangerous if not controlled. According to them, a womans place was in the home playing the role of wife and mother. However, some women began to push back against these beliefs arguing that women deserved to receive the same education and opportunities as men. The Querelle de Femmes gave birth to early feminist ideas from women who felt oppressed by these misogynistic views ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As women were trying to break out of the private sphere of the home and into the realms of politics, arts and science, there was great opposition to this. Opponents, such as Jean Jacques Rousseau, a Swiss born philosopher and social theorist of the 18th century, thought that women should be passive, weak, and subordinate to man. In his writing Emile: or On Education, Rousseau depicted the ideal woman to be mindless, unintelligent creatures who existed only to serve man and to care for her home and children. Therefore, a woman did not need a high level of education to perform this function. Despite society s resistance to women s participation in the arts and sciences, several women managed to make major contributions in these fields. Ultimately the significance of the Querelle des Femmes was that it was the vehicle through which early feminist ideas evolved. The early feminist theorists of the Querelle unknowingly set in motion the chain of events that would lead to tremendous transformation in women s rights. These ideas would evolve and reemerge later in the modern era to inspire the women s movements that took place after the French Revolution, opening the doors for women worldwide and paving the way for the progression of modern day
  • 4. Analysis Of The Hunger Games Let me start off by saying, DEREK AND MEREDITH WERE DESTINED TO BE TOGETHER AND LIVE A HAPPY LIFE . If you ask the spectators of the show what they think about Shonda Rhimes and her decisions in regards to her show, their first response might be that Shonda Rhimes might just be the most heartless and evil woman on this earth. Grey s Anatomy involves real life situations in which people (in this case the actors) have to learn to trust one another and ask them for help and support. The unity that is shown most of the time on the show is heartwarming. From season to season the viewers are taken into an emotional rollercoaster in which we never see what s coming next. Every episode for the most part may be argued to follow the same sequence in which it starts normal and then BOOM something happens and everyone or at least the ones involve put on their gear and work together to solve it and it s those moments that grab the audience s full attention. The bonds created between the characters make it seem for everyone to have that happiness, loyalty, loveand more in their lives. The meaning of friendship, love and family are constantly being questioned but until now they have been able to overcome any obstacle put on their way. The first three movies of the Hunger Games sequel are very captivating to the viewers. The suspense of what will happen to Peeta and Katniss throughout the sequel makes the audience want to 1) read the book and find out what happens since we all know
  • 5. The Importance Of Persuasive Essay On Human Life When a person s pet gets sick or injured to the point of them dying, most often the owner will end its suffering by putting it down. Either the owner will take the matter into his/her hands and personally kill the animal, or the person will take it to the vet and have the vet put the animal to sleep. Who is to say that an animal should have the right to a peaceful, legal deathbut humans cannot? Why is it that a vet has the right to murder an animal, but a licensed doctor doesn t have the right to do their jobs? Doctors try their best to help their patients and if the only way to help a person is by letting him/her end his or her life, then it should be the patient s right to do so (Vermont). Some say that this law should not be changed because it might pressure the patients into wanting to take their lives, but this is false. If someone was in so much pain that he wanted to take his life, then he would end the suffering regardless if he is prescribed a pill or not. Suicide is not illegal, but knowing about someone planning to commit suicide is. This leads to all of these sick people committing suicide and not have the chance to give a proper good bye to their loved ones. By having this law in place, families of these patients never get a proper closure (Vermont). The decision to end one s life is completely up to that person, and the same goes for when someone decides to take part in assisted suicide. There are several states that have legalized assisted suicide in the
  • 6. Dehumanization In Night By Elie Wiesel Throughout our daily lives, we are consistently presented with news of fear and death. However, these events are so numb to people because people believe there is nothing that can be done, nor do they have room in heart to even try to make changes. Elie Wiesel s Night demonstrates many of the horrendous conditions of the Jews. From being burned alive in the crematories, to being shot right on the spot, the S.S soldiers had no remorse towards the Jews. In spite of their persecution, the Jews showed immense devotion to their religion and remained faithful to their God. It seems as if in spite of harsh situations, the capability of our greatness can be most exhibited in tough times. Wiesel constantly depicts the harsh and brutal conditions of the concentration camps. The dehumanization of the Jews seemed almost unreal after reading all of the brutal encounters of death. Night focuses on multiple themes: silence, inhumanity to others, and father/son bonding. Wiesel struggles with his faith throughout the story and believes that God is everywhere, and he cannot understand how God could let this happen, especially as Wiesel faces conflict everyday in the concentration camp. He says it is God s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He cannot understand why they do not fight back, even with the inhumanity that is forced upon them. There is a transformation of character in the Jews as they become animalized and start to behave inhumane. It is because of this inhumanity that he loses faith, not only in God but also in other people. There is a drastic change from the beginning and end story. At the beginning, Wiesel thought the Germans were distant but friendly. However, when they reach the camps, the soldiers transformed from men to monsters because of the cruel ways the Germans began to treat them. This leads to moral lessons and how, Wiesel s love and bond for his father is stronger than

  • 8. I Felt Like Making A Deep Breath Of Fresh Air It is my impression that a poem is complicated, obscure, and must have deep meaning. However, after reading William Carlos Williams poems, I felt like making a deep breath of fresh air. It was the first time I felt that poems could be simple like this. In his poems, everything is expressed in simple words. Even a reader as me, an international student, could understand his words easily. Also, the images he described are the common but neglected scenes. Nonetheless, when I closed the book, some of the images overlapped with my memory. It seemed like something happened before in my experience but I ignored. The fragments now look so beautiful. I especially like his poems To a Poor Old Woman, Poem, and Her Daughter. These three poems help me to find the beauty around me, help me to change a direction to see the world, help me to appreciate. In the poem To a Poor Old Woman, Williams described an old woman eating plums on the street. Munching a plum on the street a paper bag of them in her hand. I was laughing when I read this. Eagerly eating something on the street, I believe it happened in many people s life. For example, I have a nice memory of eating a hot roast sweet potato on the street in a cold winter afternoon. However, some people think eating on the street is impolite and unsightly. In New York, eating on the street even is illegal in some residential neighborhoods. For an poor old woman in the poem, she might had no free time or a spacious dining room to enjoy her
  • 9. Understanding The Premise Of Jesus Christ Understanding the Premise of Jesus Christ Belief in Jesus Christ is the basis of Christian religion, this figure is important to study because not only is Jesus the son of God, but he serves as Priest, Prophet, and King to humanity. These are all important attributes to have since Jesus acts as the mediator between the Father and Humankind. Without Jesus there would be no forgiveness of sins, knowledge of God himself, or listener of prayers. To fully understand the importance of Jesus s role in the Christian faith there are several aspects that need to be further discussed, including, Jesus s role in the Holy Trinity, the atonement, eschatology and the incarnation. Once these aspects can be comprehended a person can create their own opinion on how to understand and worship Jesus, what is the true meaning of Jesus s humanity and how Jesus lived his life versus how his followers live theirs. Jesus and the Trinity The Holy Trinity is composed of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three entities create the overall being of God. In this Jesus plays the role of the Son, but that does not mean he is not also God. Jesus is sent to walk among humankind with the body and life of a simple carpenter s son, but also to be the physical embodiment of the divine Son. According to Zahniser, it is necessary for Jesus to walk on earth because as the communicator he must become one with those he wishes to communicate with (Zahniser, 1989). For the communication to be
  • 10. Battered Women s Syndrome As A Legal Defense Abstract In this analysis, I will attempt to cover the basis of Battered Women s Syndrome as a legal defense. This will cover the historical context of Battered Women s Syndrome as a legal defense, which will of course require a brief review of what battered women s syndrome is by using experts in the field, usually psychologists. When reviewing the historical context of such a subversive topic, it is essential to the structure that we look at actual cases involving battered women such as abuse being reported and cases that have actually been brought to trial as well as the ending verdicts as the factors that may have caused the outcome. We must also look at different cases as to which the defense was used, such as situations where a battered women s husband was sleeping, or any other relative situation as to which there was question of the imminence of a threat. An Empirical Political Analysis of Battered Women s Syndrome as a Legal Defense Before looking at the use of battered women s syndrome as a legal defense, it would help to look at the definition of who exactly a battered woman is. In Daniel Saunders research of rates of husband and wife violence, he uses the term battered women in the broad sense to mean female recipients of any form of physical force that is intended to hurt. Therefore, Battered Women s Syndrome is the name given to the measurable psychological changes that may occur after prolonged terms of abuse and is considered a subgroup of

Beethoven s Piano Concerto No.5 Emperor is a three part traditional concerto, an Allegro, Adagio, and the Rondo. This concerto was named Emperor because of the powerful themes and heroic note of the composition (www.all about beethoven.com /concerto5.html). The opening of the concerto brings a main theme introduced by a solo piano with the full orchestra providing a dramatic presence of several chords. The piano flourishes grow in length until reaching a cadenza after the third time. The full orchestra joins in and carries the theme into the full exposition. The theme is bold with a pleasant interjection of a second subject that seems to tiptoe through the movement. The orchestra stays in the tonic key as the piano modulates and reaches a wide variety of tones as the scales are worked. The development of the movement effectively flips the lead. The orchestra now leads and the piano accompanies. The main theme rhythm is reinforced by a powerful bassoon. The coda is lead by horns and joined by the rest of the orchestra to a thrilling close. Scientific merit Scientific merit is considered as a way to examine if our research study represents good science. Therefore, we will need to make sure that any research we are working on, clearly states the research questions and its overall objectives. The research should also include the contextual data that will also have peer reviewed literature to support why the research is needed. First of all, Jackie Robinson showed and proved his heroism for how he went against the social norms to be the first African American to play in a previously all white sport;the courage required to break this barrier is an example of social heroism. In What is Heroism? it states, Yet social heroism is costly in its own way, often involving loss of credibility or financial stability, lower social status, arrest, torture, risks to family, and, in some cases, death. This statement rings true to Jackie Robinson because, when Jackie went against the strict views of racist baseball players and fans, he risked everything that the evidence stated! This hero defied discrimination at a time when people of color were not allowed to play baseball. Gamma rays are the most energetic form of light produced by the hottest regions of the universe and emitted by the nucleus of radioactive atoms. Because of this, gamma rays are used to penetrate tissue property, such as in the use of CT scans, and radiation therapy. Alpha particles are also ejected by the nuclei of unstable atoms; however, they are large and consist of two protons and two neutrons. • 29. Myoblast Fusion Research Paper Abstract: The formation of multinucleated muscle cells through cell cell fusion is a conserved process from fruit flies to humans. Numerous studies have shown the importance of Arp2/3, its regulators, and branched actin for the formation of an actin structure, the F actin focus, at the fusion site. This F actin focus forms the core of an invasive podosome like structure that is required for myoblast fusion. In this study, we find that the formin Diaphanous (Dia), which nucleates and facilitates the elongation of actin filaments, is essential for Drosophila myoblast fusion. Following cell recognition and adhesion, Dia is enriched at the myoblast fusion site, concomitant with, and having the same dynamics as, the F actin focus. Using different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Arp2/3 can nucleate F actin filaments de novo, it does this slowly [32]. The presence of pre existing filaments accelerates Arp2/3 s ability to form branched F actin [33]. Formins, another group of actin regulators, complement the activity of Arp2/3 by generating linear actin filaments. Studies have revealed both collaborative and antagonistic relationships between members of the WAVE regulatory complex, Arp2/3, and formins. As examples, Abi, a member of the WAVE complex, has been shown to interact with the formin mDia1 to positively regulate cell cell adhesion in tissue culture cells [34]. In contrast, mDia2, WAVE, and Arp2/3 have been shown to form a multimeric complex, which inhibits mDia2 dependent filopodium formation in cultured cells [35]. Arp 2/3 and formins often act together in different in vivo contexts, including pseudocleavage furrow formation, cytokinesis, and filopodia formation in Drosophila primary neurons [36,37]. Particularly relevant for our studies in myoblast fusion are the findings that, in cancer cells and macrophages, Arp2/3 and formins are required for the formation of podosomes, which resemble the invasive structure at the myoblast fusion site [21,38,39]. How Arp2/3 and formins interact to regulate actin dynamics in different in vivo contexts, particularly myoblast fusion, remains to be

The Pros And Cons Of The WWII Even though the United States emerged as a clear victor of World War I, many Americans after the war felt that their involvement in the conflict had been a mistake (Markus Schoof, The American Experience During World War II, slide 3). Right from the Manifest Destiny, which led to expand its empire at home and abroad, to the World War I, the country had come a long way from being somewhat a lonely land to a global superpower of the 20th century. If the WWII was a resounding success to the American legacy, what followed, the Cold War, put many implications on the American diplomatic relations with the Soviet Unionand to the world. Although the rising Fascism in Europe and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor drove the U.S. to enter the WWII, historians over the years have laid equal blames on both nations for starting the Cold War. These two events helped in shaping up many domestic and foreign policies for the U.S. It is interesting how the U.S. decided to fight world war for the second time despite many oppositions. As mentioned above, the U.S. collusion in the World War I brought mixed reactions among the citizens about the wars in general. On the other hand, the country was

Two academic schools of thought have debated since the 1980 s as to to the role of national legal systems within sporting contexts. More recently however, the debate has changed to one which questions the validity of Lex Sportiva or global sports as a genuinely distinguishable, and unique branch of law. One could justifiably argue that the CAS fills the gap between sporting governing bodies and traditional legal systems in the sense it will hear matters of purely sporting significance. Simply, those cases that do not fall within the remit of traditional legal judgements. This somewhat intermediary role is illustrated in Football Association of Serbia v. UEFA, in which the Serbian football association wished to contest the awarding of a point sanction during qualifying for the 2016 European Championships. Clearly in this case there is no breach of European community law. Yet, the CAS enables a bespoke service to challenge sporting judgements regardless of the opinion of traditional legal systems. Therefore one may justifiably argue that the CAS is a quasi judicial body that successfully provides a reference on the unique nature of sporting regulation and codification. However as James has suggested The UK has no formal definition of sport and consequently no formal definition of sports law perhaps meaning that lex Sportiva is a not as clearly defined as previously assumed.
