CGI
Computer generated imagery is the way in which
producers such as Francis Lawrence use computer
graphics to create productions such as The
Hunger Games. Computer generated imagery has
helped ensure that the audience receive a larger
variety of products as CGI is an easy way to
differentiate between productions. CGI is the way
in which producers turn something very surreal
into something very realistic. Most productions
that require CGI are usually sci-fi related. For the
audience this is really positive as it provides
variety and additionally provides the institution
with a unique selling point as a lot of CGI is very
original.
Digital video camera
Digital video cameras have allowed film makers to
produce and exhibit their production much quicker
and with greater ease. For example the introduction
of digital video cameras has reduced the amount of
equipment needed in the production stages. Before
digital video cameras a vast amount of equipment
was needed at each set e.g. the camera, reels and
the audio equipment. The development of this has
now ensured that the only piece of equipment still
needed out of those listed above is the camera. The
production when filmed can now easily be edited on
advanced computer programmes which reduces
time and cost. For the audience this has additionally
been a good thing as it has resulted in the majority
of the footage being better quality.
The world wide web and web 2.0
The world wide web has majorly impacted
the media industry as it has provided the
audience with a variety of ways to watch
new productions (not all legally) at low
costs. It has additionally had a positive
affect on institutions as it has given them
another method of advertisement and
enables them to exhibit their production in
an increased amount of advanced
methods. The world wide web allows
anyone anywhere in the world to view of
research anything they wish published and
exhibited by anyone. It is quick and easy as
everything required can be found under
one media platform.
Video on demand
Video on demand is a relatively new
system of allowing the audience to
choose what they want to watch at
any given period of time. There are
many advantages for the audience as
it is now easier for them to view a
variety of their own filmed
entertainment. This has additionally
been positive for institutions as this
has meant it is more likely for a wider
audience to watch their production.
DVD and Blueray
The development of DVDs has allowed
a wider audience to watch the
production. For instance instead of
visiting the cinema a wide revenue for
the institution will come from DVD
sales. This is additionally a benefit for
the audience as the film has become
portable resulting in more of the
target audience being able to see it
and the audience being satisfied as
they disk can be used in cars etc.
Smart phones and tablets
The development of smart phones
and tablets has opened up additional
ways for the audience to view media
products. As these devices are
portable it means the audience are
able to view the media without being
at home. For instance films can be
watched in a restaurant or on the
train. This has been very significant to
institutions as a much wider range of
media can be shown at all times
resulting in the institution gaining
popularity.
IMAX
IMAX is a technique of widescreen
cinematography which produces an
image approximately ten times larger
than that from standard 35 mm film.
This has been an advantage for the
audience as they can now view the
production in better quality. It has
also been significant for institutions
this new technology has attracted a
lot more viewers to the cinemas as
this is an experience that can not be
had at home.
