This document describes the design and implementation of a current mirror symmetrical operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) for electrocardiogram (ECG) signal amplification. An OTA was designed using a current mirror topology in a 45nm CMOS process using Cadence. Simulation results showed the OTA has a gain of over 40dB, input noise of less than 4mV/Hz, power consumption of less than 151nW, and slew rate greater than 10V/μs, meeting specifications for amplifying low-voltage ECG signals. The OTA provides improved performance over other designs for use in biomedical applications like heart disease diagnosis.
Design and Implementation of Schmitt Trigger using Operational AmplifierIJERA Editor
A Schmitt trigger is an electronic circuit, a Comparator that is used to detect whether a voltage has crossed over a given reference level. It has two stable states and is very useful as signal conditioning device. When an input waveform in the form of sinusoidal waveform, triangular waveform, or any other periodic waveform is given, the Schmitt trigger will produce a Rectangular or square output waveform that has sharp leading and trailing edges. Such fast rise and fall times are desirable for all digital circuits. The state of the art presented in the paper is the design and implementation of Schmitt trigger using operational amplifier µA-741, generating a Rectangular waveform. Furthermore, the Schmitt trigger exhibiting hysteresis is also presented in the paper. Due to the phenomenon of hysteresis, the output transition from HIGH to LOW and LOW to HIGH will take place at various thresholds.

Design and analysis of current mirror OTA in 45 nm and 90 nm CMOS technology ...journalBEEI
This paper proposed a design and performance analysis of current mirror operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) in 45 nm and 90 nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology for bio-medical application. Both OTAs were designed and simulated using Synopsys tools and the simulation results were analysed thoroughly. The OTAs were designed to be implemented in bio-potential signals detection system where the input signals were amplified and filtered according to the specifications. From the comparative analysis of both OTAs, the 45 nm OTA managed to produce open loop gain of 45 dB, with common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of 93.2 dB. The 45 nm OTA produced only 1.113 μV√Hz of input referred noise at 1 Hz. The 45 nm OTA also consumed only 28.21 nW of power from ± 0.5 V supply. The low-power consumption aspect displayed by 45 nm OTA made it suitable to be implemented in bio-medical application such as bio-potential signals detection system where it can be used to amplify and filter the electrocardiogram (ECG) signals.

Development of Compact P-Band Vector Reflectometer IJECEIAES
A compact and low cost portable vector reflectometer is designed for a reliable measurement of reflection coefficient, S . This reflectometer focuses on return loss measurement of frequency ranges from 450 MHz to 550 MHz. The detection of magnitude and phase is based on the utilization of surface mount Analog Devices AD8302 gain/phase detector. The data acquisition is controlled by using Arduino-Nano 3.0 microcontroller, with the use of two analog to digital converter (ADC) and a digital to analog converter (DAC). One port (Open, short and matched load) calibration technique is used to eliminate systematic errors prior to data acquisition. The evaluation of the reflectometer is done by comparing the result of the measurement to that of vector network analyzer. 11

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
