Feng Shui Essay
FENG SHUI AND QUICK TIPS TO APPLY TO YOUR HOME ARRANGEMENT
Feng Shui an ancient Chinese practice that traces back to 6000 years of history has for long
played a crucial role in home improvement in Asian culture as widespread influence of Chinese
tradition in the region. In short, Feng Shui s philosophy focuses on designing the surroundings in
accordance with the flow of energy and harmony of natural elements within and outside houses,
which results in health and prosperity for house owners and their families. This article will be to
provide you with a better understanding of Feng Shui, its key principles and some quick tips on
how to apply Feng Shui in home arrangement, in order to enhance your family s overall living
quality and wellness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The easier Chi flows through houses, the wealthier families would be. Also, 2 other fundamental
principles of Feng Shui encompass the harmony of Yin Yang and rule of 5 elements. Yin and Yang
,
on one hand, represent 2 opposite but intertwined forces of nature: Feminine (passive energy) and
Masculine (active energy). A good Yin Yang application might include strong/bright colors in
mixture with calm/lighter ones in house painting, adding decoration items with soft features to
abate the intensity of Yang dominated rooms. On the other hand, 5 element rule concentrates on 5
key components of life: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth. The integration of these 5 elements in
each part of the house is encouraged but not compulsory, though it would create balance within it.
According to Carol Olmstead a professional Feng Shui practitioner, besides these 3 basic
principles, there are also 2 other rules: The Bagua and Continuity Connectedness, as we will
discuss later in next articles of how to apply them to home

Research Paper On Jerry Sandusky
Sexual Abuse is unwanted sexual behavior by an individual using force, threats or any other
violent acts. Many sexual abuse victims do not report to authorities. Children are the most
vulnerable involving sexual abuse before the age of seventeen. Sexual abuse makes many
individuals nauseous about the topic and they refuse to bring it up. In fact, it scars the people
who have suffered from it for the rest of their lives. Most sexual abusers are men that the victim is
very close with or in fact, looks up to them. Penn State University Football team coaching staff and

Honesty means to be truthful in any circumstance and all the people involved or even knew
about the scandal was not honest at all and lied when they were asked about any question
regarding the situation. Courage is the ability to do something that frightens someone to do an
action and only the grad assistant had the courage to bring the situation to the light and the
people higher up decided to keep it low and it turned out bad for them. Temperance is the
moderation of physical pleasures, especially those associated with eating, drinking, and sex.
Sandusky didn t moderate his physical pleasure and decided to get his physical pleasure from
children and not the women he was married. Justice is to be fair to all stakeholders, and it also
includes hard work, good ideas, and fair practices. Sandusky was not fair for putting his fellow co
workers and university in that situation. My opinion on the Penn State scandal I think everyone
involved keeps trying to take the easy way out and deciding to keep it low and out of the light. I
applaud the grad assistant trying to stand up for the children and bringing the situation to a person
higher up in power. If they would have brought many jobs wouldn t have been lost, the university
wouldn t have had to pay the big fine and Paterno wouldn t have lost many of his accomplishments

Analysis of a Six Year Old Attending Barstow Elementary...
Relevant Background and Demographic Information Zachary is a six year old boy who attends
Barstow Elementary School. He is currently a kindergarten student and will be moving on to
first grade in the fall. Zachary identifies with the Caucasian community and is English speaking.
He is currently attending public schooling and meets with a speech therapist twice a week. The
speech therapist works with Zachary to develop his reading, writing and spelling skills. Beyond
this service, Zachary receives no other special services from Barstow Elementary. Reason for
Referral Zachary, along with every other public school student takes Maryland School
Assessments (MSA) in order to determine whether or not his reading abilities are equivalent to
grade level standard scores. Zachary s teacher, Mrs. Mason, expressed concern about Zachary s
low achievement in a variety of subjects, specifically in English and Literature. Mrs. Mason
referred Zachary for extra assessments and requested that an intervention plan be created for him if
necessary. In addition to the MSA tests, Zachary also administered the Test of Auditory Processing
Skills, in order to rule out any potential auditory processing or cognitive problems. Zachary s ability
to perform tasks in nonsense word fluency, reading fluency and reading comprehension were
assessed through the MSA tests. Zachary s auditory processing abilities were tested through the

Victor Frankenstein Thirst for Knowledge
At the beginning of life, humans are exposed to the outside world with an open and blank mind. A
newborn has no knowledge, no concerns or worries and it only seeks to fulfill its main necessities.
Surrounded by the outside world one lives through many experiences where knowledge is accepted.
Encountering other humanbeings reflects upon one s perception and brings about ones self
decisions. Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein, written in 1816, demonstrates through characters that
an obsessive desire for more knowledgemay ruin ones life.
The desire of extensive knowledge is first seen through Victor Frankenstein. At the beginning of the
novel, a young boy named Victor grows up in Geneva deeply smitten with the thirst for knowledge

No mortal could support the horror of that countenance. A mummy again endued with animation
could not be so hideous as that wretch. I had gazed on him while unfinished; he was ugly then, but
when those muscles and joints were rendered capable of motion, it became a thing such as even
Dante could not have conceived. (37) The monster continues to follow Victor throughout his life as
he seeks revenge for abandoning him as a young child.
The idea of pursuing knowledge clouded Victor s mind and when his creature is born he is
shocked to discover that what he has created is far off his own expectations. Not only did the
monster destroy his expectations of developing a creature that went beyond human knowledge, but
it also affected his life, dignity, and fears. Victor himself admits to his own mistake when he says,
The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature...but now that I
had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless honor and disgust filled my heart
(36). Victor Frankenstein realizes what his obsession with pursuing an extensive amount of
knowledge has brought him. His destiny to achieve the impossible with no regard for anyone or
anything but himself shows that he is blinded by knowledge when creating the monster and is
incapable to foresee the outcome of his creation. Victor s goal was meant to improve and help
humanity, but instead it leads to

People get categorized by their looks. The standards of beauty have become very high. Kids

experiences. Other take it with them and it creates bigger problems. Self image issues can arise.
People are cruel, especially in school with their peers. The administration and teachers write it off

The Walt Disney Company s Yen Financing, Harvard Case Study
Suppose a bottle of French wine is priced in France at 1000 Euros. If the e = $1/€, the cost to an
American is €1000 x ($1 / €) = $1000.
Conclusion: __________________ . If the Euro appreciates ($ depreciates), will the French wine be

What can importers/exporter do about currency risk?
1. Negotiate the contract in domestic currency ($).
2. Wait and see. Take the risk of using spot market at time of delivery, and hope for a favorable ex

3. Lock in a forward ex rate today with a forward contract, either for the entire amount (full hedge)

Example: Importer needs to buy Yen in six months. He/she can buy Yen forward today at the 6

African Americans And The United States
Although African Americans make up merely fourteen percent of the U.S. population, thirty
seven percent of people who are homeless are African Americans. Forty two percent of African
American children are educated in all high poverty schools. In 2012, the mean critical reading
SAT score for college accepted students was 428 for African Americans and 527 for whites. For
mathematics, it was 428 for African Americans and 536 for whites. For writing it was 417 for
African Americans and 515 for whites (National Center for Educational Statistics). These staggering
data manage to encompass just a few of the issues that are prevalent among African Americans in
the United States. However, people may find themselves wondering how these figures came to be;
who is responsible and what can be done? Many will begin turning to stereotypes for justification of
this issue: African Americans are lazy, African Americans are criminals, African Americans are
indifferent towards education. Indeed, that shallow assumption can be made made based on sole
observation, but further research unveils an extraordinarily different conclusion. In order to
understand this, one must dig deep into the history books and study the turbulent past of African
Americans. Doing so, I was able to form a deduction that shows the origin of so many issues that
the African Americancommunity is pressed with. African Americans experience the ramifications
of their pasts everyday through the effects of denied access to

The Between Socrates And Meno
Meno was a student of Gorgias, and he has a long discussion with Socrates about what virtue is.
Socrates and Meno wonder if virtue can be taught, Meno proposes that it may be a result of practice
or an inherent trait, but before they can answer that question they first need to agree on what virtue
is. Meno makes multiple attempts at a description of virtueand Socrates points out potential
problems. A definition of virtue is not settled, which leads to the discussion about the problem of
learning. If neither or them know what virtue is then how will they know if they find it. Plato
describes this ongoing discussion between Socrates and Meno.
Meno s first attempt at the description of virtue is listing examples. The health of a man is the
same as that of a woman, is virtue the same for both as well? Meno states that there are certain
virtues for men, like managing public affairs, helping friends, harming enemies, and protecting
oneself. There are different virtues for women, managing the home, protecting possessions, and
being submissive to one s husband. There are also different virtues for children, slaves, the
elderly, and so on. The virtue of a man consists of managing his city well while the virtue of a
woman is managing her household well. It is agreed that both of these things need to be managed
moderately and justly. So both the men and women need justice and moderation in order to
achieve their virtue well. It is also decided that all men are good in the same way,

Gender Roles in Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott Essay
Gender Roles in Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott
Most people think of traditional gender roles such as those depicted in mid 1900 television
sitcoms: The father going to work every morning and the mother staying home all day cooking
dinner and cleaning the house. Gender roles are a set of social and behavioral norms that are
generally considered appropriate for either a man or a woman in a social relationship. By 2050,
women will make up 47 percent of the workforce in the United States which is up from 30 percent
in 1950. Through the use of allusion, satire, connotation, and the central metaphor of performance,
Louisa May Alcott is able to reinforce her message about nineteenth century gender roles in the

Come, the curtain is down, so I may be myself for a few hours, if actresses ever are themselves .
Jean Muir is a very mysterious woman who does not tell people of her true age, her occupation,
and her background or past. The purpose of Jean Muir being an actress is for Alcott to use that
as a metaphor for how women must act out roles in life to be able to get where they want to go
in life, such as of a higher ranking or even an occupation. Jean Muir attempts to achieve her
hidden purpose by using feminine ploys such as her beauty, charm, and seduction to mislead
men. Alcott has made Muir s hidden purpose to be receiving the Coventry family s fortune and
gaining power. Sometimes she uses coercion and lying rather than charm to have men fall in
love with her and achieve her goals. For Jean Muir to be able to become of a higher ranking, she
must marry one of the men in the Coventry family and she does this by misleading them. I wish I
was thirty, but, as I not, I do my best to look and seem old . Jean Muir lied about her age to the
men of the Coventry household because she knows that if they know of her true age, then they
will not be attracted to her. Alcott shapes Muir into a liar to show readers how men can be shallow
and only be attracted to

consumed. Lipids are basically the fats of a cell. Proteins are the building blocks of muscle in a

Essential Operations Of Information Systems
The essential operations of information systems sustained by of critical infrastructure rely on the
explicit functionality of software applications supporting complex, interdependent, information
systems. The software application provides the virtual framework for information systems to
operate efficiently in a critical infrastructure. Information systems consistently communicate with
supplementary information systems positioned throughout the network to support the infrastructure
s essential operations. The dependence of software and information systems increases, as businesses
require additional systems to automate critical operations. However, the connectivity and
complexities of information systems supporting critical infrastructure increases the critical
infrastructure s exposure rate of software vulnerabilities to advanced persistent threats.
Conventionally, software application facilitates process involved in auditing, configuring and
distributing commands to augment interdependent information system performance.
The security and safety of the nation s critical infrastructure are significantly relying on measures
implemented to ensure software resiliency and dependability. According to statistics released by the
National Security Agency (NSA) chief General Keith Alexander in 2013, about 90 percent of the
nation s critical infrastructure is owned by the private sector, and therefore is not under the control
of the U.S. government or military. (Gripas, 2013) However,

The Current Systems And Policies
In contemporary Scotland, there are a large variety of needs that people require to live
comfortable and fulfilling lives. These needs arise in lots of different areas such as healthcare,
education and housing. The concept of need is a fundamentally important aspect of social
policy because most social policies are primarily implemented with the goal of helping and
supporting people whose needs are not currently being met by society. This essay will solely
focus on the needs that come up regarding healthcare, and will look to evaluate the current
systems and policies in place that are tasked with meeting these needs. Nearly every member of
Scottish society will, at some point whether it be at birth or in old age, require some type of
health service to support them and meet their needs so it is vitally important that these services are
readily accessible and are of a satisfactory standard. Some of the specific healthcare issues explored
will include; the access to prescription medicine, the impacts of free childhood immunisation
programs, the dangers of smokingand the negative effect of alcohol abuse on the National Health
Service. This essay will also look to come to a general conclusion about whether enough is being
done to maintain the universal health and well being of the people of Scotland.
The concept of need can often be difficult to define because it can mean different things to
different people and people s needs naturally differ from one another. Needs can differ

Queen V Dudley and Stephens
There are many possibilities and options I could have taken if I were in Dudley s shoes. Murder
Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery
and then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its
outcome. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of
cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe
that murder, in any way, aside from self defense, is morally wrong.
Kant s categorical imperative refers to the supreme principle of morality whereby it is morally
essential that we adhere to this principle in all circumstances, independent of whether or ... Show

Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous
paragraph, this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a
young boy of seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was
deprived of that right to live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other
three men. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the
later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the
happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves,
the general public, and human right activists.
In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and
friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is
the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source
of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in
a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure
in the family is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not
have such consequences as he being an orphan would not

Environmental Racism
With the rapid development of the society, a large number of factories are built to meet the demand
of the market. However, the problem of factory emission and processing system has been perplexing
the residents of Flint. Flint water crisis s crucial problem is based on environmental racism.
Meanwhile, Flint is in uneven development situation and need to rebuild the infrastructure system.
Firstly, environmental racismis referring effect on industrial pollution on lower income group and

people, excludes them from the community and any exclusion is an act of racism (Pulido, 2010,

The harmfulness of environmental racism exists in the relationship between community residents
and environment. In the case of water crisisin Flint, the serious situation is caused by industry
pollution and government inaction. The emergency manager aimed to save five million, changed
the extracted water from Detroit system to Flint river (Ruth, 2017). Flint car brand general motor

affects a certain situation pertaining to which process of law development their responsibility is,
as long as each branch is separated and distinct there will be liberty and rights for people. There
has to many contributors of government that have different views and different ideas in order to

Edward Richer Essay
Gerhard Richer (1932~) is a German artist who is unique for not conforming to a particular
movement or having his own artistic style. However, his works have been influenced by many art
movements and styles, including Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, Minimalism, and
Conceptualism. He was trained to paint a traditional realist art style in early years under the
oppressive East German communist regime, banned from exposure to American Pop art and other
contemporary art (1). Thus he often explored figurative expression or representation of subjects,
until his exposure to abstract art in West Germany introduced him to an approach to art that was
much more expressive of life and its realities (1). He first started drawing landscapes in the late...

There are a couple of elements that set his painting apart from Friedrich s; that it has a surrealist
element, and that Richter values the characteristics of modern art, meaning that the artwork
does not focus on how to most imitate a subject most faithfully ( realistically ) but to capture the
essence of it. The surrealist element in particular is significant when placed side by side with
the traditional style of landscape painting, because his choice not to completely disassociate it
with the orthodox is what allows it to emphasize the surreality of the piece (4). It is also set apart
from romantic paintings by nature s indifference . The artwork has a lack of sympathy for the
viewer s search for something to relate or connect to in the painting which links to its function and
purpose. Sea Sea is are particularly significant work for being a sort of stepping stone for Richter.

painting style has influenced his photorealistic style, but on the other, his desire to move into a
more expressive form of art as the discomfiting element and the inhuman detachment of Sea Sea

United States of America, the Civic is the second longest constantly running nameplate from a
Japanese producer; just the Toyota Corolla, presented in 1968, has been underway longer. The
Honda Civic is at present in its ninth era and the present model of the Toyota Corolla is its
eleventh era. In the previous couple of years, purchasers have requested an ever increasing number
of autos that are reasonable as well as fuel proficient. This ascent popular is because of the changing
variables in the essence of the purchasers, the ascent in populace, the rising salary, the ascent in
costs of substitutes, and the drop in the costs of supplement items and administrations. Honda and

The Current Population Of Newbai Essay
The current population of Newbai is three times what it was in 2016 with 7.292 million people

bicentennial of Newbai s refunding! In what was known as Newbai. Newbai s temperature has
dropped since 2016 (when the temperature average was 113o F), as the average for the year is
now 79В° F. This temp is due to the fact that people over time have actually started caring about
their environment and have started using renewable resources more. Our Persian Gulf was
utilized properly and filtered down into drinkable water for our people. The 2016 water
situation in the UAE was poor, to say the least. What we ve done is bought 100 water filters
(come one, the UAE is rich enough to afford this). Our treasury has provided the funds to do
this. This investment will be almost instantly returned when millions of our tourists decide to
stay because of our quality funding. From there the people have a choice, to stay at our seven

population would ve been a lot larger if the UAE hadn t been as stingy. Our city is a Mecca of

Gentrification Of Gentrification And Labor Markets
Introduction The study of urban spaces, especially with respect to gentrification, has increased
dramatically in significance and relevance in the past several decades. With the resurgence of city
living s popularity, urban revitalization has occurred in neighborhoods across the United States and
brought with it significant economic and social change. Gentrification is known as a process of
moving in wealthier residents and thereby increasing property values. From this, many conclude
that it constitutes neighborhood revitalization insofar as it improves the economic value of the
area. Therefore, a major consequence of this revitalization is that it often displaces low income
residents and small businesses (Zukin, 2010). Though much research and discourse exist to
examine the plights of these residents and firms, a frequently overlooked subject is gentrification s
ability to displace labor from an economic standpoint. This review will primarily demonstrate that
the limited research on gentrification and labor markets has concluded that a relationship between
the two does seem to exist. In particular, the literature has shown that gentrification may negatively
impact the manufacturing sector of the labor market, which has negative implications for urban
economies. The review will also summarize the consensus reached by the scholars in the field, and
it will identify the trends observed in their research. Finally, it will assess the gaps in the literature,
and seek to find

The Collection That I Am A Building Essay
The collection that I am going to be building will be focusing on children s books that feature
racially diverse main characters and or themes. The focus of this collection proposal is to bring
books with diverse characters onto the shelves and make them easily accessible and visible to
young children and families. I was provided with an allocated 5,000 dollars Canadian to spend
on this special collection. My initial goal was to select books with people of colour as the main
characters exclusively. The issue with this plan is there are lots of books about African Canadian
children but not very many about Indigenous children. Due to this, I expanded my search criteria
to include books featuring diverse characters where there were also people of colour featured as
secondary characters. By expanding my search, I was able to feature more racially diverse
characters. The first step in my selectionprocess was searchingonline for lists of books published
by organizations, schools and blogs that featured racially diverse main characters. I used
Amazon extensively once I had found titles of interest. Amazon provided me with the ISBN
numbers to search as specifically as possible and offered similar title suggestions. I cross
referenced the titles through the Halifax Public Libraries Discover Catalog to see if they were
already owned. My goal was to select new titles so I was not building a collection that already
existed somewhere else. I paid particular attention to books

The Athletes Have The Opportunity For Garner Media...
SITUATION ANALYSIS Olympic athletes have the opportunity to garner media attention only
once every four years. Additionally female athletes, unlike their male counterparts, are rarely
celebrated for their athleticism, which decreases their opportunities further. However, the
national media has a strong desire to showcase Olympic hopefuls with captivating personal
stories. Media outlets seek to tell stories of individuals who triumph over adversity. Sage
Donnelly has an online presence but her website and social media platforms do not do enough to
tell the story of her path to the Olympics. Her online presence succeeds in providing general
information about her but does not allow opportunities for current and potential fans to share in
her journey by staying in touch, providing feedback, or simply offer encouragement. Generating
more engagement with her fans, sports journalists, diabetics, and devotees of the sport of
kayaking will help attract story ideas about her and her Olympic journey. Highlighting her
compelling story for a general audience, Donnelly can earn more media coverage and recognition
that would otherwise go to Olympic hopefuls who are more aggressive in promoting themselves.
CORE PROBLEM OR OPPORTUNITY Sage Donnelly s online presence fails to communicate the
struggles she has overcome to become a leading female athlete in her sport. Without a more
strategic approach to her personal branding online, Donnelly will fail to earn the national

Ancient Egyptian Civilization
The ancient Egyptian civilization is arguably the oldest civilization in the world. It is believed to
have emerged around 5,500 years ago, although some scholars have estimated an even earlier date.
During the predynastic period the Egyptians were not united, but as the Sahara desert expanded
many people began moving their settlements around the Nile River. These settlements started
coming together to form towns. As these towns progressed they developed many new ideas to help
the society run smoother. However the total unification and start of the ancient Egyptian
civilization did not happen, until Hierakonpolis expanded and conquered Naqada. The ancient
Egyptian civilization was now created. Since this civilization was one of the first in the world,
there was no structure to start with. In order to function as a thriving civilization, the Egyptians
had to accomplish agricultural, architectural, medical, and educational advancements. The ancient
Egyptian s advancements in agriculture is one of the driving forces that lead to the success of
their empire. The Egyptian civilization came together because of the need for fertile soil and a
constant supply of water. Although the Nile was a constant supply of water, the Egyptians still
needed to find a way to bring the water to their crops. Murray shows the reason why irrigation was
needed, In Egypt, 6000 years ago, when the latest rainy interlude began to wane, neolithic tribesmen
from both sides flocked into the Nile Valley

The Glass Castle Character Analysis
In The Glass Castle , pages 62 121, some of the characters have an experience that makes them
undergo a change in character. While it is not too noticeable, if you dig deep into the text you can
see how the characters are affected, and possibly make some predictions of how this is later
relevant to the story. Some of the predictions and assumptions may not be totally accurate, but are
made based on evidence from the story. Jeanette, Brian, and Lori all go through a transformation
after they each experienced some sort of distressing event. The first transformative event happens to
Jeanette in the hot pool. Jeanette s father is trying to teach her how to swim by throwing her into

The next transformative event happens to Brian. Brian was intrigued by The Green Lantern since it
was a place his parents had always warned them about. Brian was dared to go talk to the woman
on the porch, with whom he became smitten with. After this event, it can be inferred that Brian
started distrusting what his parents had to say since he didn t have a bad experience. Later on
his birthday, Brian learns the truth about the women at The Green Lantern. His dad takes him to
a hotel with Ginger where they assumingly have sex while Brian is outside. Later, when Dad and
Ginger came out, she sat down next to Brian. He didn t look up. He kept staring at the comic
book, even though he d already read it all the way through twice. I think that this is implying that
Brian knew what they were doing since he read it twice. I believe he read it multiple times to
distract him from what was going on in the other room. Afterwards, his father makes him give the
comic book to Ginger which makes Brian angry. Brian loses his only source of sanity during that
moment. I think the comic book was a symbol Brian s innocence and he was holding onto it until
his father made him give it up. The comic book was with him and helped him get through the
traumatic experience in the hotel which could be another reason he was so angry to let it go. In
addition, Jeanette hints at Brian knowing what they did since he knows that the women make

Alfred Hitchcock Manipulates the Audience to Build...
Psycho is a suspense horror film written by Joseph Stefano and directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
This film was loosely adapted from Robert Bloch s 1959 suspense novel, Psycho. A majority of
the movie was filmed in 1960 at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Psycho is about Marion Crane
(Janet Leigh), a secretary from Arizona who steals $40,000 from her employer s client. She takes
that money and drives off to California to meet her lover Sam Loomis (John Gavin) in order to
start a new life. After a long drive, she pulls off the main highway and ends up taking refuge at an
isolated motel owned and managed by a deranged Norman Bates(Anthony Perkins). In Alfred

This scene makes the viewer believe that she may be the possible psycho referred to by the title
of the film. Another instance that manifests this idea is when ever the camera is on Norman
Bates. Though he seems polite and amiable towards Crane, the shadows on his eyes represent
something more dark and sinister about him. These creative uses of birds and eyes help make
the film have more sharp twists and suspense by subtlety hinting at fear and death. The
characters of the film present another approach that shapes suspense in the film by making the
audience think that Norman Bates is a shy and caring, man who loves his mother no matter
what. Bates is first introduced to the audience when he checks in Marion Crane. He acts polite
towards her even offers her dinner. She exits to her room and this is when the opinion that he
viewers have of Norman Bates changes. He voyeurs through a peephole into her room watching
what she is doing and his actions become questionable. After the shower scene he finds Crane
dead on her bathroom floor. He hides the body because he cares for his mother that much. He
continues to conceal the truth even when a detective comes to question him. His mother kills the
detective and he has to hide another body but his countenance changes as he hides the second
body. His eyes are darkened by the shadows on his face and he doesn t seem to be who he was in
the beginning. He has a more sinister quality and this is fully revealed when he tries to

Analysis of Plato s Republic Essay
Philosophy is a Greek word meaning love of wisdom. Throughout Plato s Republic, wisdom plays
an important role. According to Plato, education is wisdom. In the passage, 518d, Plato discusses
the true meaning of education vicariously through Socrates. Some literary mechanisms can be
found in the passage and I will show how they fit in the text and how they contribute to the main
themes of Platos Republic.
In Book VII Socrates has finished listening to other opinions and is now formulating a response.
The oration is an excerpt from an intellectual conversation between Socrates and Glaucon. The goal
of the dialogue is to reach a viable explanation of education. Simile is used in the passage when
Socrates compares the instrument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the allegory Socrates gives an account of a man that breaks free from his bonds and makes his
way out of the darkness into the outside world. His story represents a man s journey to
enlightenment. To reach enlightenment a man must use education to break the bonds of ignorance
and direct his sight towards true things that originate from the Form of Good. Man already has the
capacity to see, he only needs guidance. Guidance is the job of the philosopher kings. After these
kings have reached enlightenment it is their duty to travel back into the cave and educate some of
the ignorant masses.
Socrates says that wherever sight is set is what will be seen with the most clarity. If a man doesn
t have his sight set on the right things, he can still be very clever but his sight is forced to serve
evil ends, so that the sharper it sees, the more evil it accomplishes. (519a).
Plato s Republic is a blueprint for his ideal society. In his republic education is something only
attainable to the philosopher kings. It is beneficial for the philosopher kings to be very well
educated so they will make good decisions while they are ruling the republic. The reason that no
one else should receive such an elaborate education (in Plato s opinion) is because the rest of the
people in the city only need to do what they are specialized in. This seems to be divergent from
what Socrates previously said, . ..the power to learn is present in everyone s

A Report On Mobile Technology
Mobility is no longer optional in today s world; most enterprises are adopting mobile first
strategies to provide real time information and interactivity to consumers or employees on the
go. Enterprise mobility has seen increased popularity in the last few years, bringing in with it the
growing trend of Bring your own device (BYOD). While BYOD has a host of merits like
increased productivity, better connectivity and less expenditure for enterprises, but there are
security risks involved. This is where mobile management comes into the picture. It is generally
an administrative system and service that is used to encrypt and lock the device, and enforce
miscellaneous other BYOD policies. Schneider Electric BYOD policy is implemented through
Airwatch Mobile Device Management (MDM). Although BYOD adoption is continuously
increasing, only 1 percent of Schneider Electric employees have opted for BYOD enrollment on
their personal mobile devices until now. The major factors contributing to low adoption of
BYOD are the concerns and uncertainties around user activity tracking, logging and potential
loss or leakage of personal data. Moreover, the current BYOD deployment does not support a
large variety of popular mobile devices. Due to this, the adoption and usage of mobile applications
via the Internal App Store is also quite low. However, the current BYOD program is geared
towards addressing the enterprise data security concerns, which obviously has merits, and cannot be

Functional Impairment Autistic individuals struggle daily with social impairments like the use of
non verbal behaviors , creating and keeping friendships, and lack of interest in others (Orsmond,

interact with their peers as much as typical children (Orsmond et al., 2004). Also, they rarely ever

The Cause And Effects Of The Cold War
The Cold War is a period of the history of international relations, which formally began in 1946
after the speech of Winston Churchill and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR, the
Interior Ministry and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This period, I believe, is very
dangerous for all mankind, because it put the world on the brink of a nuclear war that would entail
the disappearance of mankind.
In this essay I will try to examine what were the causes of cold war, if there any particular person
who could cause an aggravation in relations between the two powers America and the USSR
The rivalry between the two strongest countries of the world at that time gradually developed into
a fierce confrontation in all spheres economic, social, political and ideological. Both states created
military political associations (NATO and the Warsaw Pact), forced the growth of nuclear missiles
and conventional weapons, and also constantly took covert or explicit participation in virtually all
local military conflicts on the planet.
In my opinion, the explosion in the sphere of international relations was to no small extent
promoted by the rise of the power of the USSR and its transformation into the main actor of
international politics after the war, as well as the US desire to consolidate world leadership and
create a world based on American values, opponents (European states, like the USSR, lay in ruins
after the war, while other countries at that time could not even

This is done by establishing shared values between the speaker and audience and strong uses of
pathos. Despite this speech being written by William Safire, it was to be spoken by President
Nixon to establish automatic credibility due to him being the leader of the United States, one of the
most powerful countries. This use of ethos strengthens the argument of persevering through this
difficulty since the persona of the speaker is that of a compassionate, but stern figure that is meant
to serve as inspiration as to how the audience should act. In addition, the persona works in
conjunction with pathos to evoke strong emotions of sympathy and nationalism. This is seen in the
third paragraph where the phrase, They will be mourned.. is used as an anastrophe to greater
emphasize the need to remember and feel sorrow for the brave astronauts who gave their lives to

their achievements to those of ancient times and how they ll never be forgotten. Safire s speech

When sugar cane was introduced those planters who owned small plots of land either had to sell
their land, merge their land with another planter and enter into a partnership or buy more land in
order to grow sugar cane. Sugar cane could only be grown on large plots of land which ranged from
150 acres to 500 acres in Barbados and in Jamaica 300 acres to 5000 acres. The type of labour also
changed within the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat from
free labour to slave labour. Tobacco cultivation required a very small labour force, but with sugar
as the new cash crop a large labour force was needed in which the Dutch provided by bringing
African slaves. Therefore the white populations of these countries declined while the black
populations increased due to the sugar revolution. Even though the governments of these Islands
made efforts to keep the black to white ratio ten to one, according to Greenwood, Robert, Hamber,

This population change occurred during the early years of the sugar revolution up to the mid

because it was the only battle throughout World War II which was fought only in the air. The Battle

as beliefs, do not exist (or do not have referents). Instead, it claims that these mental entities are
theoretical terms for the false theory of folk psychology(common sense psychology), which can be
defined as the cognitive ability to explain and predict the behaviour and mental state of other
people. In essence, the theory aims to discredit folk psychology by claiming that people will
discover that there is no neural basis to mental entities and thus, they are non existent. I shall argue
that there are significant fundamental flaws to both the arguments for eliminativism about
propositional attitudes and eliminativism about qualia (subjective experience). For the former, I
will argue that the eliminative materialist s theory theory is flawed and show that propositions
alone can discredit the position on philosophy of mind. This will lead to identifying the position as
self refuting. Furthermore, I will show that science itself has proven simulation theory to be true so
that I can discredit eliminative materialism. For the latter, I will argue that qualia exist due to
introspection. Combined, the deconstruction of eliminative materialism with regards to
propositional attitudeand qualia will show that the materialist position is flawed and should not be
agreed with.

Social Classes In Regency England
Social Classes in Regency England Regency England was very different from the world today.
Society revolved around social classes, which typically correlated with wealth and family ties.
There were many different social classes in the era. The highest class in society was the royal
family, consisting of the king, queen, prince, and princess. The next highest class would be the
aristocracy. This would include dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts, and barons (Ray 37). Knights
and baronets were not included in this class. They were considered commoners (Ray 38). The gentry
was a very wide class. Land owning males in the gentry, like Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice,
were called gentlemen (Ray 39; Gao). Ladies were also considered gentry (Ray 12). With all of
these different classes, one might say that social classesplayed a big factor in Regency England
society. The way people lived in Regency England depended on the class they belonged in. Their
estate, their clothes, and their vehicles were all influenced by their class. In Pride and Prejudice,
Mr. Darcy, who was a gentleman, owned the Pemberley estate (Ray 219; Austen 163). It was a
beautiful, large, stone estate on high ground, surrounded by woods and nature (Austen 163). This
showed that Mr. Darcy was clearly upper class. Since he was upper class, he also dressed the part.
He wore tight breeches, ruffled shirts with neck clothes, and high collared jackets ( Pride and
Prejudice, Novels). Owning a personal carriage showed

Feng Shui Essay FENG SHUI AND QUICK TIPS TO APPLY TO YOUR HOME ARRANGEMENT Feng Shui an ancient Chinese practice that traces back to 6000 years of history has for long played a crucial role in home improvement in Asian culture as widespread influence of Chinese tradition in the region. In short, Feng Shui s philosophy focuses on designing the surroundings in accordance with the flow of energy and harmony of natural elements within and outside houses, which results in health and prosperity for house owners and their families. This article will be to provide you with a better understanding of Feng Shui, its key principles and some quick tips on how to apply Feng Shui in home arrangement, in order to enhance your family s overall living quality and wellness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The easier Chi flows through houses, the wealthier families would be. Also, 2 other fundamental principles of Feng Shui encompass the harmony of Yin Yang and rule of 5 elements. Yin and Yang , on one hand, represent 2 opposite but intertwined forces of nature: Feminine (passive energy) and Masculine (active energy). A good Yin Yang application might include strong/bright colors in mixture with calm/lighter ones in house painting, adding decoration items with soft features to abate the intensity of Yang dominated rooms. On the other hand, 5 element rule concentrates on 5 key components of life: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth. The integration of these 5 elements in each part of the house is encouraged but not compulsory, though it would create balance within it. According to Carol Olmstead a professional Feng Shui practitioner, besides these 3 basic principles, there are also 2 other rules: The Bagua and Continuity Connectedness, as we will discuss later in next articles of how to apply them to home ... Many sexual abuse victims do not report to authorities. Children are the most vulnerable involving sexual abuse before the age of seventeen. Sexual abuse makes many individuals nauseous about the topic and they refuse to bring it up. In fact, it scars the people who have suffered from it for the rest of their lives. Most sexual abusers are men that the victim is very close with or in fact, looks up to them. Honesty means to be truthful in any circumstance and all the people involved or even knew about the scandal was not honest at all and lied when they were asked about any question regarding the situation. Courage is the ability to do something that frightens someone to do an action and only the grad assistant had the courage to bring the situation to the light and the people higher up decided to keep it low and it turned out bad for them. Temperance is the moderation of physical pleasures, especially those associated with eating, drinking, and sex. Sandusky didn t moderate his physical pleasure and decided to get his physical pleasure from children and not the women he was married. Justice is to be fair to all stakeholders, and it also includes hard work, good ideas, and fair practices. Sandusky was not fair for putting his fellow co workers and university in that situation. My opinion on the Penn State scandal I think everyone involved keeps trying to take the easy way out and deciding to keep it low and out of the light. I applaud the grad assistant trying to stand up for the children and bringing the situation to a person higher up in power. If they would have brought many jobs wouldn t have been lost, the university wouldn t have had to pay the big fine and Paterno wouldn t have lost many of his accomplishments and ... He is currently a kindergarten student and will be moving on to first grade in the fall. Zachary identifies with the Caucasian community and is English speaking. He is currently attending public schooling and meets with a speech therapist twice a week. The speech therapist works with Zachary to develop his reading, writing and spelling skills. Beyond this service, Zachary receives no other special services from Barstow Elementary. Reason for Referral Zachary, along with every other public school student takes Maryland School Assessments (MSA) in order to determine whether or not his reading abilities are equivalent to grade level standard scores. Zachary s teacher, Mrs. Mason, expressed concern about Zachary s low achievement in a variety of subjects, specifically in English and Literature. Mrs. Mason referred Zachary for extra assessments and requested that an intervention plan be created for him if necessary. In addition to the MSA tests, Zachary also administered the Test of Auditory Processing Skills, in order to rule out any potential auditory processing or cognitive problems. Zachary s ability to perform tasks in nonsense word fluency, reading fluency and reading comprehension were assessed through the MSA tests. Encountering other humanbeings reflects upon one s perception and brings about ones self decisions. Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein, written in 1816, demonstrates through characters that an obsessive desire for more knowledgemay ruin ones life. No mortal could support the horror of that countenance. A mummy again endued with animation could not be so hideous as that wretch. I had gazed on him while unfinished; he was ugly then, but when those muscles and joints were rendered capable of motion, it became a thing such as even Dante could not have conceived. (37) The monster continues to follow Victor throughout his life as he seeks revenge for abandoning him as a young child. The idea of pursuing knowledge clouded Victor s mind and when his creature is born he is shocked to discover that what he has created is far off his own expectations. Not only did the monster destroy his expectations of developing a creature that went beyond human knowledge, but it also affected his life, dignity, and fears. Victor himself admits to his own mistake when he says, The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature...but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless honor and disgust filled my heart (36). Victor Frankenstein realizes what his obsession with pursuing an extensive amount of knowledge has brought him. African Americans And The United States Although African Americans make up merely fourteen percent of the U.S. population, thirty seven percent of people who are homeless are African Americans. Forty two percent of African American children are educated in all high poverty schools. In 2012, the mean critical reading SAT score for college accepted students was 428 for African Americans and 527 for whites. For mathematics, it was 428 for African Americans and 536 for whites. For writing it was 417 for African Americans and 515 for whites (National Center for Educational Statistics). These staggering data manage to encompass just a few of the issues that are prevalent among African Americans in the United States. However, people may find themselves wondering how these figures came to be; who is responsible and what can be done? Many will begin turning to stereotypes for justification of this issue: African Americans are lazy, African Americans are criminals, African Americans are indifferent towards education. Indeed, that shallow assumption can be made made based on sole observation, but further research unveils an extraordinarily different conclusion. In order to understand this, one must dig deep into the history books and study the turbulent past of African Americans. • 9. The Between Socrates And Meno Meno was a student of Gorgias, and he has a long discussion with Socrates about what virtue is. Socrates and Meno wonder if virtue can be taught, Meno proposes that it may be a result of practice or an inherent trait, but before they can answer that question they first need to agree on what virtue is. Meno makes multiple attempts at a description of virtueand Socrates points out potential problems. A definition of virtue is not settled, which leads to the discussion about the problem of learning. If neither or them know what virtue is then how will they know if they find it. Plato describes this ongoing discussion between Socrates and Meno. Meno s first attempt at the description of virtue is listing examples. The health of a man is the same as that of a woman, is virtue the same for both as well? Meno states that there are certain virtues for men, like managing public affairs, helping friends, harming enemies, and protecting oneself. There are different virtues for women, managing the home, protecting possessions, and being submissive to one s husband. There are also different virtues for children, slaves, the elderly, and so on. The virtue of a man consists of managing his city well while the virtue of a woman is managing her household well. It is agreed that both of these things need to be managed moderately and justly. So both the men and women need justice and moderation in order to achieve their virtue well. It is also decided that all men are good in the same way, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Roles in Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott Essay Gender Roles in Behind a Mask by Louisa May Alcott Most people think of traditional gender roles such as those depicted in mid 1900 television sitcoms: The father going to work every morning and the mother staying home all day cooking dinner and cleaning the house. Gender roles are a set of social and behavioral norms that are generally considered appropriate for either a man or a woman in a social relationship. By 2050, women will make up 47 percent of the workforce in the United States which is up from 30 percent in 1950. Through the use of allusion, satire, connotation, and the central metaphor of performance, Louisa May Alcott is able to reinforce her message about nineteenth century gender roles in the novella Behind a Mask. Jean Muir is a very mysterious woman who does not tell people of her true age, her occupation, and her background or past. The purpose of Jean Muir being an actress is for Alcott to use that as a metaphor for how women must act out roles in life to be able to get where they want to go in life, such as of a higher ranking or even an occupation. Jean Muir attempts to achieve her hidden purpose by using feminine ploys such as her beauty, charm, and seduction to mislead men. Alcott has made Muir s hidden purpose to be receiving the Coventry family s fortune and gaining power. Sometimes she uses coercion and lying rather than charm to have men fall in love with her and achieve her goals. For Jean Muir to be able to become of a higher ranking, she must marry one of the men in the Coventry family and she does this by misleading them. I wish I was thirty, but, as I not, I do my best to look and seem old . Essential Operations Of Information Systems The essential operations of information systems sustained by of critical infrastructure rely on the explicit functionality of software applications supporting complex, interdependent, information systems. The software application provides the virtual framework for information systems to operate efficiently in a critical infrastructure. Information systems consistently communicate with supplementary information systems positioned throughout the network to support the infrastructure s essential operations. The dependence of software and information systems increases, as businesses require additional systems to automate critical operations. However, the connectivity and complexities of information systems supporting critical infrastructure increases the critical infrastructure s exposure rate of software vulnerabilities to advanced persistent threats. Conventionally, software application facilitates process involved in auditing, configuring and distributing commands to augment interdependent information system performance. • 14. The Current Systems And Policies In contemporary Scotland, there are a large variety of needs that people require to live comfortable and fulfilling lives. These needs arise in lots of different areas such as healthcare, education and housing. The concept of need is a fundamentally important aspect of social policy because most social policies are primarily implemented with the goal of helping and supporting people whose needs are not currently being met by society. This essay will solely focus on the needs that come up regarding healthcare, and will look to evaluate the current systems and policies in place that are tasked with meeting these needs. Nearly every member of Scottish society will, at some point whether it be at birth or in old age, require some type of health service to support them and meet their needs so it is vitally important that these services are readily accessible and are of a satisfactory standard. Some of the specific healthcare issues explored will include; the access to prescription medicine, the impacts of free childhood immunisation programs, the dangers of smokingand the negative effect of alcohol abuse on the National Health Service. This essay will also look to come to a general conclusion about whether enough is being done to maintain the universal health and well being of the people of Scotland. Murder Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery and then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its outcome. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe that murder, in any way, aside from self defense, is morally wrong. Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous paragraph, this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a young boy of seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was deprived of that right to live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other three men. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves, the general public, and human right activists. In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure in the family is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not have such consequences as he being an orphan would not ... • 25. Gentrification Of Gentrification And Labor Markets Introduction The study of urban spaces, especially with respect to gentrification, has increased dramatically in significance and relevance in the past several decades. With the resurgence of city living s popularity, urban revitalization has occurred in neighborhoods across the United States and brought with it significant economic and social change. Gentrification is known as a process of moving in wealthier residents and thereby increasing property values. From this, many conclude that it constitutes neighborhood revitalization insofar as it improves the economic value of the area. Therefore, a major consequence of this revitalization is that it often displaces low income residents and small businesses (Zukin, 2010). Though much research and discourse exist to examine the plights of these residents and firms, a frequently overlooked subject is gentrification s ability to displace labor from an economic standpoint. This review will primarily demonstrate that the limited research on gentrification and labor markets has concluded that a relationship between the two does seem to exist. In particular, the literature has shown that gentrification may negatively impact the manufacturing sector of the labor market, which has negative implications for urban economies. The review will also summarize the consensus reached by the scholars in the field, and it will identify the trends observed in their research. Finally, it will assess the gaps in the literature, and seek to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To reach enlightenment a man must use education to break the bonds of ignorance and direct his sight towards true things that originate from the Form of Good. Man already has the capacity to see, he only needs guidance. Guidance is the job of the philosopher kings. After these kings have reached enlightenment it is their duty to travel back into the cave and educate some of the ignorant masses. Socrates says that wherever sight is set is what will be seen with the most clarity. The major factors contributing to low adoption of BYOD are the concerns and uncertainties around user activity tracking, logging and potential loss or leakage of personal data. Moreover, the current BYOD deployment does not support a large variety of popular mobile devices. Due to this, the adoption and usage of mobile applications via the Internal App Store is also quite low. However, the current BYOD program is geared towards addressing the enterprise data security concerns, which obviously has merits, and cannot be overlooked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Functional Impairment Analysis Functional Impairment Autistic individuals struggle daily with social impairments like the use of non verbal behaviors , creating and keeping friendships, and lack of interest in others (Orsmond, Krauss, Seltzer, 2004, pg. 245). When placed in a social setting, adolescents with autism don t interact with their peers as much as typical children (Orsmond et al., 2004). Also, they rarely ever initiate conservations, making potential friendship more problematic to maintain (Orsmond et al., 2004). A study showed that 47% of individuals had no friends that shared the same interests (Orsmond et al., 2004). • 37. The Cause And Effects Of The Cold War The Cold War is a period of the history of international relations, which formally began in 1946 after the speech of Winston Churchill and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR, the Interior Ministry and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This period, I believe, is very dangerous for all mankind, because it put the world on the brink of a nuclear war that would entail the disappearance of mankind. In this essay I will try to examine what were the causes of cold war, if there any particular person who could cause an aggravation in relations between the two powers America and the USSR The rivalry between the two strongest countries of the world at that time gradually developed into a fierce confrontation in all spheres economic, social, political and ideological. Both states created military political associations (NATO and the Warsaw Pact), forced the growth of nuclear missiles and conventional weapons, and also constantly took covert or explicit participation in virtually all local military conflicts on the planet. In my opinion, the explosion in the sphere of international relations was to no small extent promoted by the rise of the power of the USSR and its transformation into the main actor of international politics after the war, as well as the US desire to consolidate world leadership and create a world based on American values, opponents (European states, like the USSR, lay in ruins after the war, while other countries at that time could not even ... Despite this speech being written by William Safire, it was to be spoken by President Nixon to establish automatic credibility due to him being the leader of the United States, one of the most powerful countries. This use of ethos strengthens the argument of persevering through this difficulty since the persona of the speaker is that of a compassionate, but stern figure that is meant to serve as inspiration as to how the audience should act. In addition, the persona works in conjunction with pathos to evoke strong emotions of sympathy and nationalism. This is seen in the third paragraph where the phrase, They will be mourned.. is used as an anastrophe to greater emphasize the need to remember and feel sorrow for the brave astronauts who gave their lives to further humanity. Their sacrifice is later built further in the following paragraphs by comparing their achievements to those of ancient times and how they ll never be forgotten. Safire s speech utilizes the automatic credibility given by the president and emphasizes key points using rhetorical devices to establish shared values in order to further evoke sympathy and later patriotism from the audience. • 41. The Early Modern Atlantic Economy Edited by J. McCusker... On one hand a group of historian argues the notion that Brazil and the Caribbean experienced a sugar revolution while on the other hand another group argues that there was no such thing as a sugar revolution, what Brazil and Caribbean experienced was simply a sugar boom. In order to assess which group of historians is more accurate, one must first understand the concept of a sugar revolution and what factors must be present in order for a sugar revolution to occur. The concept of a sugar revolution is one that states there was a drastic change from the cultivation of tobacco to the cultivating of sugar cane, changing the country`s economy, politics and social structure within a short period of time. According to B.W. Higman there are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When sugar cane was introduced those planters who owned small plots of land either had to sell their land, merge their land with another planter and enter into a partnership or buy more land in order to grow sugar cane. Sugar cane could only be grown on large plots of land which ranged from 150 acres to 500 acres in Barbados and in Jamaica 300 acres to 5000 acres. The type of labour also changed within the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Antigua and Montserrat from free labour to slave labour. Tobacco cultivation required a very small labour force, but with sugar as the new cash crop a large labour force was needed in which the Dutch provided by bringing African slaves. Therefore the white populations of these countries declined while the black populations increased due to the sugar revolution. Even though the governments of these Islands made efforts to keep the black to white ratio ten to one, according to Greenwood, Robert, Hamber, S, Dyde, Brian the ratio became extremely difficult to maintain during the years passed . This population change occurred during the early years of the sugar revolution up to the mid 1700s. In Barbados there were 18 000 whites and 5 500 blacks in 1645 and by 1660 there were 20 000 whites and 30 000 blacks while Jamaica had 4 500 whites and 1 500 blacks in 1658 to 8 500 whites to ... • 42. Air Campaign Waged by Germany in The Battle of Britain Essay The Battle of Britain is the name given to the World War II air campaign waged by the German Air Force against the United Kingdom during the summer and autumn of 1940. The Luftwaffe or German Air Force was trying to pave the way for a sea and airborne invasion of Britain as an extension of Hitler s Blitzkrieg campaign in Western Europe. The Battle of Britainis significant because it was the only battle throughout World War II which was fought only in the air. The Battle of Britain also marked the turning point in the war. The Luftwaffewas overconfident in their ability to gain complete air superiority over the British Channel and the invasion area. The Luftwaffe intended to prevent both the RAF from striking against their attack but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Germans would make small advancements throughout the length of the battle, but they could never make a large enough dent in the RAF to change the outcome of the battle. Britain had its hand in every major component of the battle which what caused them to win the Battle of Britain and defeat the Germans in the first major campaign fought entirely by air forces. The courageous pilots of the RAF were the heroes that helped safeguard Britain which gave way to Churchill s speech about the few men who risked their lives for so many others. The popular saying is, Never...was so much owed by so many to so few. Leadership Goering and Hitler The commander in chief Reichsmarschall Hermann W. Goering was an unstable leader for the Luftwaffe. Although Goering was a pilot in WWI he had not kept up with the changes in air power since his time in WWI and had little knowledge of strategy. Goering was prone to make impulsive and erratic decisions which made it difficult for the Luftwaffe to get a jump on the RAF. Because of Goering s erratic decision making, Hitler would intervene when he thought necessary which would make the results even worse. Hitler had no clue about aerial strategies or tactics which Churchill picked up on and realized that it would give the RAF a great advantage. Goering and Hitler were never on the same page with one another and Goering would only tell Hitler what he wanted to hear. As Hitler was preparing to move along with Operation Sea ... • 43. The Theory Of Folk Psychology Eliminative materialism (eliminativism) is an ontologically radical approach that claims that a matured cognitive science will show that mental states that common sense takes for granted, such as beliefs, do not exist (or do not have referents). Instead, it claims that these mental entities are theoretical terms for the false theory of folk psychology(common sense psychology), which can be defined as the cognitive ability to explain and predict the behaviour and mental state of other people. In essence, the theory aims to discredit folk psychology by claiming that people will discover that there is no neural basis to mental entities and thus, they are non existent. I shall argue that there are significant fundamental flaws to both the arguments for eliminativism about propositional attitudes and eliminativism about qualia (subjective experience). For the former, I will argue that the eliminative materialist s theory theory is flawed and show that propositions alone can discredit the position on philosophy of mind. This will lead to identifying the position as self refuting. Furthermore, I will show that science itself has proven simulation theory to be true so that I can discredit eliminative materialism. For the latter, I will argue that qualia exist due to introspection. Combined, the deconstruction of eliminative materialism with regards to propositional attitudeand qualia will show that the materialist position is flawed and should not be agreed with. • 44. Social Classes In Regency England Social Classes in Regency England Regency England was very different from the world today. Society revolved around social classes, which typically correlated with wealth and family ties. There were many different social classes in the era. The highest class in society was the royal family, consisting of the king, queen, prince, and princess. The next highest class would be the aristocracy. This would include dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts, and barons (Ray 37). Knights and baronets were not included in this class. They were considered commoners (Ray 38). The gentry was a very wide class. Land owning males in the gentry, like Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, were called gentlemen (Ray 39; Gao). Ladies were also considered gentry (Ray 12). With all of these different classes, one might say that social classesplayed a big factor in Regency England society. The way people lived in Regency England depended on the class they belonged in. Their estate, their clothes, and their vehicles were all influenced by their class. In Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy, who was a gentleman, owned the Pemberley estate (Ray 219; Austen 163). It was a beautiful, large, stone estate on high ground, surrounded by woods and nature (Austen 163). This showed that Mr. Darcy was clearly upper class. Since he was upper class, he also dressed the part. He wore tight breeches, ruffled shirts with neck clothes, and high collared jackets ( Pride and Prejudice, Novels).
