Reflection On Math
Math has many different categories within itself and for this project, we had to observe and solve
problems on certain college placement tests. There were many college placement tests to chooses from
but I wanted to choose the college I want to go to and the test that I wanted to answer. I chose the
Monmouth Mathematics Placement Test and Barton College Practice
Placement Test. For each one, we had to categorize how many questions were in each type of math
whether it was algebra, geometry, or calculus. The Barton test had 64 geometry problems and 16
trigonometry problems while the Monmouth test had 50 problems which were all algebra.
I answered the Barton test because I liked the different variety of algebra problems it was consisted of.
The Monmouth test I will do at a future date because that is where I wanna go and it will help me
practice math and help me pass their placement test. I was actually surprised about both of their tests
because I thought they were gonna be a lot harder. Most of the problems seemed like Algebra 1 and I
believe I have excelled in that since freshman year. They both had problems on their tests that were
very easy and I did them fast and efficiently. A couple problems were hard since I haven t had a
refresher on that section of trigonometry, but if I studied, I would have easily gotten them right. I felt
confident with these tests because even if i had only gotten a couple wrong, I would have still easily
passed. Also, it was even easier since

Apple Stereotyping
In Steven Levy s article The new iPods: Random sampling or not?, he postulates that Apple s
mechanism for shuffling songs is not entirely random. Apple popularized its shuffle feature in 2004
with the slogan Life is Random. However, Levy finds this difficult to believe. He consistently gets
songs by Steely Dan and nothing by Aretha Franklin, despite the supposed randomized shuffling
feature. Yet, Apple maintains that its shuffling process is randomized. Ultimately, the problem is
because of Apple s coding, user error, or due to random sampling error. Apple describes its process of
shuffling like a Vegas dealer shuffles a deck of cards. The effectiveness of this process is dependant
upon the code that Apple uses. If there is any bias

Ethos And Pathos In The Achievement Habit By Bernard Roth
Ethos, Logos, and Pathos If one was told they could fly without wings or on an airplane, would they
believe it? Or if they were promised they could walk on water, would they still try? Probably not,
correct? Knowing a person s creditability is key before you make the decision to put faith in them or
to trust them or not. In the novel The Achievement Habit written by Bernard Roth, while still showing
emotion towards his audience, Roth makes sure to have reliable credentials and logic behind his
reasoning. Roth has a passionate attitude and strong morals about what he preaches in chapter two,
Reasons are Bullshit that is reassuring and fitting to the reader. His communication is established
through personal relations and stories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knows everyone in life struggles. He simply is encouraging the reader to stop finding excuses and
continue improving themselves by stop handing out excuses and reasons. A wise man once wrote You
can t do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth.
Evan Esar. Justifications in life simply set one back from becoming great; which is what Roth does a
stellar job explaining it in this chapter. Roth s appeal of pathos initially rubs the reader to be a little
angrier, seeing that he believes that every reason is just an excuse. However, it s the disciplinarian
theory he is using to do two things. One, it wakes up the reader and grabs their attention and two, to
make the reader think and question the excuses or reasons they have been dealing with in their
personal life. Everyone needs a reason to do anything, but there s no logic behind every reason. The
reason behind going to the grocery store, is to buy food so one doesn t starve in the middle of the
week. The reason behind a person going to the hair salon is to feel better about their personal image.
The reason of going to the gas station is to fuel up a car with gasoline. Roth agrees with reasons
controlling everything by saying Our society loves reasons. Perhaps the illusions that there is a single
known reason for each thing we do is comforting. (Roth 41.)

A Gaping Hole On Generations
A Gaping Hole in Generations No Dad its CRTL + ALT + Delete not Escape a hundred times. No don
t text that, Aunty. I promise you it doesn t mean what you think it does! More and more I feel I have to
teach my older family how to live today than they taught me how to live. They taught me the basics
but they just do not get how to live in the modern world. Most of this is because of the generation gap
as explained in Nancy Gibbs article Generation Next. I hugely agree that the generation gap is at an all
time high between my generation, the millennials, and that of my parents and grandparents. Young
Americans are forced to be more educated, they feel technology bridges a gap, and while still being
conventional the way they are conventional makes the gap even larger. Gibbs states Young Americans
are now more educated... and [yet] less likely to have a job than previous generations. I agree that
Millennials are certainly more educated then previous generations but as a result not having the right
education makes it difficult to find a job. My uncle, who is currently 82, was able to quite school in
eighth grade in order to find a job to help his father. When he was ready for a career he didn t need to
have a GED or high school diploma to become a pipefitter, he simply interviewed and then learned on
the job. Now not only is it required have some sort of official training in order to obtain a career, but
the job market is slightly smaller because machines are making doing

Bead Game Essay
Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was
created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further
into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the
remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning
of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color making
his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of
percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and
movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life; ... Show more content on

Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and
then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of
the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men throwing a spear
at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other. Another historical
event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700
BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then
going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is
trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity
the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t obvious; it is just something
that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this
animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics
of being

Child Labor Rights
Mother Jones, Cesar Chavez, and Malala Yousafzai all fought for the rights that they believed in. They
all were leaders part of a big picture. Although these three individuals used different methods to get
their point across, they all had courage to speak out about injustice and improve human rights. Mother
Jones was a lady who stood up for all of the children who were mistreated because of child labor.
When trying to get her point out, Mother Jones went to newspapers for public articles on what was
happening to these working children. Unfortunately, the factories owned the newspapers so they
wouldn t publish her position on the subject, so she made her own form of publicity by forming a
march of children and parents. (Josephson). She was an activist for the abolishment of child labor.
Mother Jones had a lot of courage to speak out even though not a lot of people listened. After publicly
marching to Sagamore Hills, Judith Pinkerton Josephson states, Within a few years, Pennsylvania,
New York, New Jersey, and other states did pass tougher child labor laws. The federal government
finally passed a child labor law (part of the Fair Labor Standards Act) in 1938 thirty five years after
the march of the mill children. Mother Jones was persistent on getting her message out in public
because so many people were clueless on what was happening to the children. She would most
definitely say that defending all human rights is a necessity because even though this particular issue

Commodity In Chemistry
Economic Investigation
The economic classification of a substance that is vital for the existence of humankind is an important
notion to understand in order to utilize it both efficiently and effectively. This necessary liquid
solution, comprised of a specific arrangement of hydrogen and oxygen atoms, is known as water
(What is Water Made of?). It is difficult to go through a day without the use of this liquid; whether it
be satisfying your thirst on a hot summer day, washing dirty dishes after dinner, or taking a nice long
hot bubble bath at the end of the day. A multitude of individuals can argue that the very water that has
a variety of uses should be considered a commodity. Correspondingly, there are a multitude of
individuals that can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of scarcity, various economic decisions must be made to allocate resources efficiently
(Scarcity). Water may be a renewable resource, but there is only a limited amount to satisfy an infinite
demand. Only 3% of water on earth is fresh water, with only 1% readily available. The rest lies
underground in aquifers or trapped in glaciers (The World s Water). Due to the limited supply and
growing demand, several countries such as Brazil, Iran, and India are experiencing a shortage (Reig,
Maddocks, Gassert , 2013). The law of supply and demand states that as something becomes scarce,
its value explodes. Water prices in the United States in over 30 states have experienced a 6% increase
due to a limited supply (Walton,

Predictably Irrational Analysis
This week s reading Predictably Irrational was very valuable, and informative. While coming up with
so many ways of thinking when it comes to behavior, I had no idea even existed. We talked last week
about being rational, but this week and this week s reading it discussed more about irrational, and
predictable behavior. At the end of this summary I hope to have showed and understand the difference
when it comes to irrational and predictable theories that can disrupt behavior, and decision making.
When it came down to a specific model I wasn t quite sure which one we are talking about, because in
the book Dan Ariely in my opinion has quite a few different experiment, models that are used to help

The first chapter I enjoyed was chapter 10, The Power of Price. The chapter talked about experiments
suggest that more expensive things, higher perceived value have a better placebo effect. The
experiment is where the people drank an energy drink, and those who had the more expensive version
did better in a puzzle. However, the group who had the drink whose bottle specifically said that it
helps people do better in puzzles, they actually did better than the group with the blank bottle. To me
that showed me just how pictures and the things we see really do impact our decision making. If we
see a name brand energy drink compared to a knock off brand energy drink does the name brand
energy work better? I have been in those situations where I have felt a Red Bull did better than a
monster energy drink, just because the Red Bull is more expensive. Both energy drinks in my opinion
work the same, and to be honest who is to say they aren t the same drink? I can just be different price

Exercise Independence
The Relationship Between Exercise Independence and Introjected Regulation
The reason that people exercise depends on various motives and personality traits. Specifically,
although exercise is important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Exercise dependence represents a
condition in which moderate to vigorous physical activity becomes a compulsive behavior (Edmunds
et al., 2006). The term exercise dependence refers to individuals habitual and extreme exercise routine
that eventually leads to the destruction of the social and occupational aspects of peoples lives
(Maclaren 2007). Exercise dependent individuals continue their obsession with exercise to the point in
which they see negative extremely repercussions, that can be both psychological ... Show more

The limitations to the literature found on the topic of the KIN2276F study include the sample size. For
example, the size of the groups studied in much of the found literature was as little as18, where as this
study included 185 participants both male and female. The study conducted by the KIN2276F class is
also more reliable due to the background on the participants. The participants in this study are
university students who are all expected to be relatively active compared to the general populations in
the other studies found therefore producing a more accurate result of people who exercise regularly
and why they do so.
In conclusion, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between exercise dependence
and self determined motivation. Through the use of questionnaires it with be determined which
correlation between the SDT and exercise dependence is the strongest. It is hypothesized the use of
exercise dependence will be positively related to introjected regulation.

The For The Cash Rate Unchanged At 2.0 % Essay
At its meeting today, the Board decided to leave the cash rate unchanged at 2.0%.
The Board s decision is based on the following conditions. According to the January 2016 World
Economic Outlook (WEO) , the growth rate is 3.1% in 2015, which is less than the forecast in 2016
(3.4%) and 2017(3.6%). It is apparent that the global economy is slightly dipped and the economic
recovery is predicted to be moderated in 2016. Besides, the surplus supply in the oil market possibly
be moderated and the members noticed the World Bank adjusted the predicted oil price in 2016 from
$37 per barrel to $41 per barrel , which may drive a growth of the inflation rate. The World Bank also
pointed out that in February, the reduction forecast in metals prices is 8.2%, less than the prediction in
January (10.2%)5. It is inimical to Australia, which is rich in mineral resources.
Moreover, since China is the largest export market of Australia, its slowdown of growth probably
influences the trade with Australia. At 2015, China s GDP increasing rate was 6.9% and reached the
bottom at 6.7% in the first quarter of 2016 . Some trade with Australia, such as iron ore, base metals
and coal, may be affected by this reduction. As a result, we cannot deny that the cash rate may be
influenced by the possible drop in the future. However, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed by
China and Australia entered into force on 20 December 2015 . Due to the agreement, over 86% of
Australia s goods that export to China

Military Conquest In Mesoamerica
Amplified connections resulting from explorations, military expeditions and trade among different
cultures emerge simultaneously across the globe in the early modern era. Once people move, their
ideas accompany them, and this dramatic surge of communication often relates to the role of religion.
With this intensity of collaborations, opportunities for the restructuring of religion escalates.
Undeniably, these factors shape religious practices in the regions of Mesoamerica and Europe. With
the military conquests in Mesoamerica and the struggles for and against the importance of political
and economic power in Europe, the altering of religious practices occurs.
Markedly, military conquest brings potential for religious changes. The military invasion ... Show

This reformation includes two folds, one a drive for internal reform linked to earlier reform efforts,
and the other a Counter Reformation that opposed Protestants intellectually, institutionally, politically,
and militarily. (51) Both parts of the reformation of the Catholic church result from their need for
power. The church sets their goal to stop the spread of Protestant ideas with the ambition of
reestablishing their supremacy. In the attempt to achieve this goal, the church promotes the teaching of
specific Catholic doctrine that Protestants contest such as the rule to, keep the mind ready and prompt

Let s Put an End to Parking Problems!
I would like to see the parking and traffic crunch on and around this campus eased. Unless a student
arrives before 8 o clock in the morning or in the afternoon, cruising the parking lots or streets for a
place to park is routine. Even buying a parking sticker does not mean you will have the privilege of a
space. Competition for spaces during the rush hours of 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. is cutthroat. Would be
parkers stake out sections of a parking row and sit in their cars hoping someone in their section will
leave. The other ploy is to try and catch someone who is just walking back to their car in order to
plead for that space. lf these tricks fail, the only thing left is to park far away on ... Show more content

In other words, make it convenient for car poolers. In this same vein, buses or vans could be run to
outlying areas which have large numbers of Northridge students as residents. Charge a fee which
would be less than the student is now paying in parking fees and gas. If the buses or vans were
advertised in the paper to increase student interest and if they were run at convenient times, I am sure
many students would take advantage of the opportunity.
A somewhat different tack would be to encourage bicycle riding and/or walking. Many students living
close to campus still drive when they could be bicycling. Making the roads safer for bikers is of major
concern and unsafe conditions are the reasons given by many who do not ride. Providing bicycle lanes
on all streets around the campus would be extremely beneficial. This would decrease contact with the
faster moving traffic. Adding more bicycle stands on campus which are secure would also encourage
bike riding. Perhaps courses on bike riding safety could be conducted on campus. Again, advertising
of the new bike lanes and bike facilities would encourage more people to ride. Also advertising the
health benefits of riding or walking should increase the number of students who will take advantage of
this inexpensive means of transportation.
There are several reasons why this change is both

Marketing Audit – Starbucks Stores

Marketing Management
March 13, 2006
Executive Summary Since its foundation in 1971, Starbucks has been working uncompromisingly to
achieve the company objective of becoming the world s leading coffee brand. Having gone through
various stages of growing pain, today the Company is operating with over 10,000 stores in 37
countries. Starbucks success was mostly a direct result of its aggressive expansion plan, that
consequently turned the Starbucks coffee beverages into a most familiar and popular world leading
brand. Although Starbucks has been successful over the past 34 years, there are some potential

Consequently, this group of consumers possesses the greatest growth potential. In connection with this
growth potential, Starbucks also started Hear Music Coffeehouse stores that offer in store music CD
burning services. Starbucks further started to open Media Bars where customers can create their own
mix of CDs. This is Starbucks first phase of a multi phased national rollout (Starbucks, 2006). Most
likely these creative efforts will boost growth from the younger patorns and music lovers.
On the other hand, the older generations may be reluctant to be attracted to Starbucks. Rather, they
may just visit a local coffee shop instead. Therefore this market segment may not grow as fast as the
younger generations. Furthermore, a market segment that has declining potential is the busy working
professionals. Because of their busy schedule, these working professionals, males and females alike,
may just brew their own coffees in the office space. Another discouraging factor is the much higher
price of Starbucks coffee products. As a general rule, Starbucks does not offer promotional prices on
its products, which tend to be higher than those of competitors (Wikipedia, 2006). As people grow
older, they may be more conscientious to their spending. Regardless of continued future growth
potentials, Starbucks faces some drawbacks. In an effort to increase sales, Starbucks started to print

Dota 2 is a free to play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed and published

is played in matches between two five player teams known as radiant and dire, each of which occupies
a stronghold in a corner of the playing field. A team wins by destroying the other side s Ancient
building, located within the opposing stronghold. Each player controls one of 111 playable Hero
characters that feature unique powers and styles of play. During a match, the player collects gold,

League of Legends was one of the first standalone MOBAs, and it was able to transform the spirit of

My Last Duchess And Arnold Diction
Through the use of diction, poets Robert Browning, Matthew Arnold, and John Donne characterize the
speaker and, in one case, the person to whom the speaker addresses. In My Last Duchess and Dover
Beach, Browning and Arnold depict the nature of their speakers. While Browning exposes the Duke as
pompous and controlling, Arnold portrays his speaker as pessimistic. Donne s A Valediction:
Forbidding Mourning also characterizes the speaker and his wife as having an emotional love. These
characterizations help the poets to create a story involving multiple characters, although only one
character speaks. Therefore, they use diction to tell a story from a single point of view.

two will stretch until they are together again. Through diction, Donne creates metaphor and conceit so
as to characterize the speaker and his wife as having an emotional love. As such, the speaker illustrates
what he predicts their separation will be like in narrating how they are to act when separated .

patient outcomes, as well as the association between supportive managers and patient outcomes. Other
areas that were examined were collaborative relationships with physicians, supportive relationships
with peers, staffing and decentralization, patient centered climate and busyness.
The findings of this systematic review suggest that evidence supporting a positive relationship

Loss Of Innocence In Tears By Harper Lee
Loss of innocence can be a sad and depressing moment for children and their family. Nowadays, drugs
and pregnancy are often a big sign of loss of innocence in a person, and can cause a person to live a
negative life. However, others react differently to their loss of innocence, and with the right support
someday they can be an influence in the world. The poem, Tears by Jason Yu investigates the theme of
loss of innocence through multiple symbols and similes. The image of the two leaves is also a great
example of loss of innocence, but the imagery and characterization used by Harper Lee that shows
Jem and Dill s loss of innocence is the most influential symbol in this theme. In particular, Jason Yu
and Harper Lee both use the same imagery and symbolization to describe the loss of innocence in a
child. Both authors use the idea of crying as a symbol of loss of innocence. After the main character
witnesses all the horrifying discrimination acts, Yu simply states, She cries (Yu 2014). From this
quote, we can conclude that by the end of her journey she understood that segregation was immoral.
As she realized the darker world around her it caused her mass amounts of internal pain, causing her
to cry. Yu said that she cries at the end of his poem to symbolize the girl s loss of innocence after her

discrimination and segregation he has to witness to grow up and better understand the

World War II Essay
World War II World War II was a pivotal event of the 20th century and a defining moment for America
and the world. It shifted the borders of the globe. It forever changed those who lived through it, and
shaped generations to come. It has been called the last great war. Nothing could have prepared
the soldiers at Omaha Beach for the battle they are about to wage. Filled with hope and resolve, none
of them knows if they will survive the small strip of beach ahead of them. As his eyes scan the
Normandy coast, Captain John Miller (TOM HANKS) believes that getting himself and his men

Some recoiled at the graphic violence, others praised the realism, while some questioned whether war
is really like that at all. The percentage of an audience who can accurately comment is surely small.
What is abundantly clear is that in the massive body of films that deal with World War II, this is one
that pulls no punches. It consistently explores the unpredictable and random violence that engulfs and
blinds the men within it. The plot serves only to drag a squad of characters through uncharted peril
with few fitting the normal pre determined hero tag of war films. They re off on a PR mission to find a
Private James Ryan and take him home to his mother, who is shortly to learn that her other three sons
are dead.
While the men are constantly under threat from the Germans, they are not engaged in a key battle that
will help win the war. Without a major event to eclipse proceedings, a greater examination of each
man s personal fears is allowed to shine through. This is not a film that will please everyone and quite
rightly so. But no movie about any war can seek to provide answers to every question. What Spielberg
does is create a world of frightening carnage in which a small story is played out. As such, this is an
important film that deconstructs

The Electronic Health Record Information
The Electronic Health Record, or EHR, is used throughout the medical field. The EHR systems are a
collection of patient health information that is stored in digital format, and can be shared electronically
with all health care settings. The Electronic Health Record contains information regarding a patient s
health visit; everything that has been done during that visit is recorded in the EHR system along with
the patient s health insurance information. A patient s lab test results, there is also a medication list
that shows what is currently being prescribed and what medication has been taken in the past,
immunizations, medical histories and demographics are also stored in the EHR system

Personal Health Records are in many forms; you can get them in paper form, or on the personal
computer using the internet there are even PHR applications that can be bought and be applied to a
phone or tablet (www.sharecare.com, 2016). The PHR system is a way that the patient can keep track,
and share past or present health information with their healthcare provider. Some of the information
that is contained in a Personal Health Record that is given to a patient from a health care office will
contain an identification sheet; this has the patient s personal information, like name, address, phone
number, and the type of insurance that the patient has. Often a medication list is included; this
contains a list of current and past medication that the patient is taking. The patient can also receive any
progress notes that have been done by the health provider with any information that contains physician
s orders, like imaging or further blood tests that are required and even follow up visits that may be
needed. Some of the benefits of the Personal Health Records would be that patients can better manage
their own care when they have access to the past and current health records; this, in turn, helps to
coordinate and combine previous care with a new health provider so that they can coordinate care with
either the patient s previous provider or other current

Taming Of Katherina In Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew
Material culture significantly impacts the taming of Katherina by Petruchio in William Shakespeare s
play, The Taming of the Shrew. Katherina begins the play constantly defending herself against the
insults of her society and matching wits with the men in her life. Because her father and all potential
suitors in Padua view her rebellious spirit as curst and shrewd, Petruchio s wit and interest encourage
her acceptance of his proposal (Shakespeare 1.1.179). However, following a wedding in which her
new husband arrives late to the ceremony, dresses poorly, and forces her to leave the celebration early
against her will, the formerly outspoken Katherina feels embarrassment and a loss of dignity.
Petruchio then builds on her insecurities and shock as he takes Katherina to his taming school in their
new home to teach her to hold her tongue and mind her husband (Shakespeare 4.2.55). Petruchio
accomplishes his plan while at the same time, by withholding food, sleep, and clothing, he becomes a
greater shrew and devilish character than Katherina ever was before her taming process began.
Petruchio s taming school is a place in which Katherina receives training to become a wife who
follows the social conventions of the time which values quiet tongues and spirits in women. Petruchio
compares Katherina to an untrained falcon, who merely requires tough love to follow the directions of
its master. He plans to train her as a man would train a falcon to respond to his voice alone

Voltaire Rationalism
Voltaire was a rebellious and radical thinker, whose sharp wit and pointed satire drew the ire of critics
who say he disrespected the orthodoxy of church and state, and won the respect of a growing
rationalist movement that had emerged out of the public sphere in Europe between the 17th and 18th
centuries. Although Voltaire is known today for being a philosophical powerhouse, whose writing is
the stuff of legend, for most of his life he only wrote plays, poems, and novels. It wasn t until he was
almost forty in 1733 that he published his first major philosophical work, Letters Concerning the
English Nation. This was a series of letters that describe the customs, cultures and great men of
England, and even though his praise for England, a country where all the arts are honored and
rewarded, and where one could think free and nobly without being held back by any servile fear, may
be overblown, they are important nonetheless, because it highlights the virtues that an Enlightened
society should strive for. (114) In many ways these were not so much love letters to England, as much
as they were a call for the rest of Europe to progress in the rationalist movement that England had set
the tone for. Voltaire had suffered many setbacks in life before his trip to England in spring of 1726
that had shaped his mindset, and made him skeptical to authority. He was born Francois Marie Arouet
to a French aristocratic family in 1694 during the reign of king Louis XIV. When Voltaire

Effects Of The Great Depression Essay
The Great Depression and the effects of World Conflicts Have you ever thought about the end of the

Sedgwick s Homosocial Continuum Of William Shakespeare s...
Sedgwick s Homosocial Continuum in William Shakespeare s Othello Where does it end? Where did
it begin? On a continuum, it is impossible to distinguish. Eve Sedgwick coined the idea of the
Homosocial continuum. Her argument involves gender, class, and hierarchical relationships. In
William Shakespeare s, Othello, many character pairings can be analyzed in relation to Sedgwick s
theories. The relationships that most interestingly relate to the homosocial continuum are Desdemona
and Emilia, Iago and Roderigo, and Iago and Othello. First, Desdemona and Emilia have a homosocial
relationship that is easier to understand by today s standards based on Sedgwick s assertions.
Sedgwick states, The apparent simplicity...of the continuum, [for women], would not be so striking if
it were not in strong contrast to the arrangement among males (506). Emilia and Desdemona s
relationship, while certainly blurring the lines at points, would not be questioned even today based on
Sedgwick s claim that women are so much more free to move along the homosocial continuum. It is
typical for women to care for one another and desire one another s company, including physical touch
and intimate dialogue. At Desdemona s death bed, Emilia arrives to discover the situation and cries
out,
Emilia. Out, and alas! that was my lady s voice. Help, help, ho! help. O lady, speak again! Sweet
Desdemona! O sweet mistress speak! (Act V, Scene III, Line 119) In this moment it is clear that

As 1967 drew to a close, it appeared that the U.S was gaining the upper hand in the Vietnam War. The
Tet Offensive of early 1968, however, began the steady decline of U.S fortunes in Vietnam, despite an
undeniable military victory. The Tet Offensive of early 1968 denoted the demise of American
confidence about the course of the Vietnam War. In the second half of 1967, General Westmoreland
made three treks home to the United States to brief President Lyndon Johnson on the advancement of
the war. He made a progression of open and private comments which painted an idealistic picture of
the circumstance in Vietnam. American troops were adjusting to the conditions, Westmoreland said;

Ares and Athena, the god and goddess of war, were influential religious figures for the Ancient Greek
military. They were especially important during rituals and ceremonies prior to soldiers going to war.
Ares and Athena are important in the warriors or soldiers lives because of what role they play in battle
and in rituals. Athena and Ares weren t as important to the soldiers as you would think, but in some
places of battle they were very significant. When men went into battle they were disciplined and
treated roughly so they could make the cut. They were also cared for by the leaders and two on Mt.
Olympus.
Ancient Greek Military
War and Rituals The soldiers that participated in the Greek military were always nervous before they
went into battle, but there weren t many rituals to the god and goddess of war. You would think that
they would be bombarded with all these prayers and wishes, but the men didn t pray to them as much
as would have thought. On the other hand there were of course some rituals performed by newcomers
or new additions to the military. These men performed raging rituals to help them in battle. Athena and
Ares are important in war and battle, but not a necessity. Ares and Athena have some weird pasts, but
they are important.
Only men were allowed to be apart of the Greek military. The men were taken as boys to

The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today
ABSTRACT
Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and
negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of
concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a
gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based
on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal
is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior.
INTRODUCTION
In the Entertainment Software Association s 2013 report, information on the video game industry can
summarized as: 1) 59% of Americans play video games, 2) Consumers spent $21.83 billion on video
game hardware/accessories and video games, 3) 48% of all gamers are women, and 4) 51% of US
households own a dedicated console, and those that do own an average of two. (theesa.com, 2014).
The facts speak for themselves: video games have become a significant part of our culture today, and
can also be seen internationally. I personally worked for gaming retailer GameStop for almost 8 years,
and utilizing that knowledge base, I intend to be a part of the growing industry. However, it is
important to understand that the past time so many enjoy can have adverse effects, as legal battles over
the violent content of games have attempted to argue. Various school shootings

The Horror And Thematic Thrill Of The Zombie
As a public discourse, popular narrative engages with social issues expressing a collective critique
encouraging or discouraging social conformity. As Drezner states, pop culture can have an informing
effect of calling attention to and framing a particular problem. Popular culture can also have an
enabling effect of providing shorthand references that trigger awareness of a problem (Drezner 831).
Beneath the horror and thematic thrill of the zombie film franchise, the zombie as a figure in popular
culture has an enabling effect in providing awareness to society on a mass level. On the figure of the

The narrative of McDonald s film, Pontypool, displays the power of linguistics and opinion within the
public sphere. The vehicle of the illness is unorthodox and unique for the zombie genre but does not

challenges the legitimacy of the public opinion. In commonality with the genre, in McDonald s film,
they share a sense of unconsciousness, which as stated by Drezner, Both informing and enabling

Explain The Four Stages Of The Antiwar Movement
Four Stages of the Antiwar Movement in Vietnam The Antiwar movement in Vietnam was a social
movement that occurred from 1960 1970. It was the first mass movement against a war in American
history. This movement consisted of many interests and concerns that eventually led to unification
over the opposition of the Vietnam war. Although one may not visually see different stages in a
movement, often because there is so much happening, but there are four stages within almost every
movement. Emergence, coalescence, bureaucratization, and decline are all seen in the Antiwar
movement against the Vietnam war. The first stage, emergence, occurred in 1964 and 1965. This stage
was led by two different groups: left wing activists and college students. When the war began to grow
in 1965, there were two goals that were set in place: to give activists enough knowledge about
Vietnam to be able to draw others into action, and to normalize opposition, since many Americans
were hesitant to go against their own country in a time of war (Zimmerman 2017). The peace groups
educated the press and the public. The students invented a new way to train activists, the bizarrely

Americans had turned against the war but they felt unable or unwilling to join because the military

The Legacy Of The Civil War
Times of war often debut new technology that shapes the future. Seeing as how the Civil War was
known as the first modern war, it is appropriate to say that much new technological advancement was
made. Behind every piece of new technology or idea, there is a person or team that dedicated their
time to the development. When it comes to the Civil War aeronautics and much other future
advancement, Thaddeus S. C. Lowe is the man behind it. Lowe was an integral part in the success of
the aeronautics division of the war and paved the way for the world s future success in many other
fields.
Thaddeus Lowe s work was greatly under appreciated. He and other aeronauts proved time and time
again just how useful balloons could be, but, the work of Wise, Lowe, Steiner, and other aeronauts as
observers should have stirred up enthusiasm for balloons as military weapons, but neither the Army
nor the American public properly appreciated the potential of aeronautics (Scamehorn 9). This never
stopped Lowe from pursuing his dream. He fought to make ends meet by taking odd jobs so he could
finance his education in physics and other subjects that would eventually set him up for his success in
aeronautics. Through his persistent work, at thirty years of age, Thaddeus Lowe had organized an
aeronautics corps for the Union Army something that only a handful of people wanted to see happen at
the time (Military Intelligence Corps Hall of Fame). Having gained the support of a few key figures,

Speech On Stuttering In School
As a child I suffered from severe stuttering. I came to America at the age of five therefore, English is
not my primary language. This made it difficult for me to learn English. I had the capacity to develop
abstract ideas and understood what was being told to me. I could not articulate what I wanted to say. I
didn t not have the ability to communicate with others around me. My stuttering was so severe that it
stunted my progress in learning English. The bullying I received in school caused me to become mute
for sometime. My perspective at that time was detrimentally negative. In my mind if I am being
bullied for the way I talk than why talk at all. My elementary school ended putting me in ESOL and
special needs classes. I did not apply myself in school at all and had a lot of unpleasant behavioral
incidents. People don t talk about this much, but I whole heartedly feel like my school kept me in
special needs classes because they receive funding for the amount of special needs children they have.
When I reached fourth grade my ESOL teacher looked at my FCAT scores and fought for me to be put
in a regular class. She motivated me to apply myself, which I did. They eventually took me out of
special needs, gave me more hours of ESOL and made me work with an SLP. Overtime, my stuttering
decreased tremendously. Now, when I get nervous my stuttering comes through but not as much as
before. In general the clip from A fish Called Wanda some what shows an accurate depiction of how

  • 2. Reflection On Math Math has many different categories within itself and for this project, we had to observe and solve problems on certain college placement tests. There were many college placement tests to chooses from but I wanted to choose the college I want to go to and the test that I wanted to answer. I chose the Monmouth Mathematics Placement Test and Barton College Practice Placement Test. For each one, we had to categorize how many questions were in each type of math whether it was algebra, geometry, or calculus. The Barton test had 64 geometry problems and 16 trigonometry problems while the Monmouth test had 50 problems which were all algebra. I answered the Barton test because I liked the different variety of algebra problems it was consisted of. The Monmouth test I will do at a future date because that is where I wanna go and it will help me practice math and help me pass their placement test. I was actually surprised about both of their tests because I thought they were gonna be a lot harder. Most of the problems seemed like Algebra 1 and I believe I have excelled in that since freshman year. They both had problems on their tests that were very easy and I did them fast and efficiently. A couple problems were hard since I haven t had a refresher on that section of trigonometry, but if I studied, I would have easily gotten them right. I felt confident with these tests because even if i had only gotten a couple wrong, I would have still easily passed. Also, it was even easier since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Apple Stereotyping In Steven Levy s article The new iPods: Random sampling or not?, he postulates that Apple s mechanism for shuffling songs is not entirely random. Apple popularized its shuffle feature in 2004 with the slogan Life is Random. However, Levy finds this difficult to believe. He consistently gets songs by Steely Dan and nothing by Aretha Franklin, despite the supposed randomized shuffling feature. Yet, Apple maintains that its shuffling process is randomized. Ultimately, the problem is because of Apple s coding, user error, or due to random sampling error. Apple describes its process of shuffling like a Vegas dealer shuffles a deck of cards. The effectiveness of this process is dependant upon the code that Apple uses. If there is any bias ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ethos And Pathos In The Achievement Habit By Bernard Roth Ethos, Logos, and Pathos If one was told they could fly without wings or on an airplane, would they believe it? Or if they were promised they could walk on water, would they still try? Probably not, correct? Knowing a person s creditability is key before you make the decision to put faith in them or to trust them or not. In the novel The Achievement Habit written by Bernard Roth, while still showing emotion towards his audience, Roth makes sure to have reliable credentials and logic behind his reasoning. Roth has a passionate attitude and strong morals about what he preaches in chapter two, Reasons are Bullshit that is reassuring and fitting to the reader. His communication is established through personal relations and stories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He knows everyone in life struggles. He simply is encouraging the reader to stop finding excuses and continue improving themselves by stop handing out excuses and reasons. A wise man once wrote You can t do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth. Evan Esar. Justifications in life simply set one back from becoming great; which is what Roth does a stellar job explaining it in this chapter. Roth s appeal of pathos initially rubs the reader to be a little angrier, seeing that he believes that every reason is just an excuse. However, it s the disciplinarian theory he is using to do two things. One, it wakes up the reader and grabs their attention and two, to make the reader think and question the excuses or reasons they have been dealing with in their personal life. Everyone needs a reason to do anything, but there s no logic behind every reason. The reason behind going to the grocery store, is to buy food so one doesn t starve in the middle of the week. The reason behind a person going to the hair salon is to feel better about their personal image. The reason of going to the gas station is to fuel up a car with gasoline. Roth agrees with reasons controlling everything by saying Our society loves reasons. Perhaps the illusions that there is a single known reason for each thing we do is comforting. (Roth 41.) ... • 5. A Gaping Hole On Generations A Gaping Hole in Generations No Dad its CRTL + ALT + Delete not Escape a hundred times. No don t text that, Aunty. I promise you it doesn t mean what you think it does! More and more I feel I have to teach my older family how to live today than they taught me how to live. They taught me the basics but they just do not get how to live in the modern world. Most of this is because of the generation gap as explained in Nancy Gibbs article Generation Next. I hugely agree that the generation gap is at an all time high between my generation, the millennials, and that of my parents and grandparents. Young Americans are forced to be more educated, they feel technology bridges a gap, and while still being conventional the way they are conventional makes the gap even larger. Gibbs states Young Americans are now more educated... and [yet] less likely to have a job than previous generations. I agree that Millennials are certainly more educated then previous generations but as a result not having the right education makes it difficult to find a job. My uncle, who is currently 82, was able to quite school in eighth grade in order to find a job to help his father. When he was ready for a career he didn t need to have a GED or high school diploma to become a pipefitter, he simply interviewed and then learned on the job. Now not only is it required have some sort of official training in order to obtain a career, but the job market is slightly smaller because machines are making doing ... • 6. Bead Game Essay Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other. Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Child Labor Rights Mother Jones, Cesar Chavez, and Malala Yousafzai all fought for the rights that they believed in. They all were leaders part of a big picture. Although these three individuals used different methods to get their point across, they all had courage to speak out about injustice and improve human rights. Mother Jones was a lady who stood up for all of the children who were mistreated because of child labor. When trying to get her point out, Mother Jones went to newspapers for public articles on what was happening to these working children. Unfortunately, the factories owned the newspapers so they wouldn t publish her position on the subject, so she made her own form of publicity by forming a march of children and parents. (Josephson). She was an activist for the abolishment of child labor. Mother Jones had a lot of courage to speak out even though not a lot of people listened. Commodity In Chemistry Economic Investigation The economic classification of a substance that is vital for the existence of humankind is an important notion to understand in order to utilize it both efficiently and effectively. This necessary liquid solution, comprised of a specific arrangement of hydrogen and oxygen atoms, is known as water (What is Water Made of?). It is difficult to go through a day without the use of this liquid; whether it be satisfying your thirst on a hot summer day, washing dirty dishes after dinner, or taking a nice long hot bubble bath at the end of the day. Due to the limited supply and growing demand, several countries such as Brazil, Iran, and India are experiencing a shortage (Reig, Maddocks, Gassert , 2013). Nowadays, drugs and pregnancy are often a big sign of loss of innocence in a person, and can cause a person to live a negative life. However, others react differently to their loss of innocence, and with the right support someday they can be an influence in the world. The poem, Tears by Jason Yu investigates the theme of loss of innocence through multiple symbols and similes. The image of the two leaves is also a great example of loss of innocence, but the imagery and characterization used by Harper Lee that shows Jem and Dill s loss of innocence is the most influential symbol in this theme. In particular, Jason Yu and Harper Lee both use the same imagery and symbolization to describe the loss of innocence in a child. Both authors use the idea of crying as a symbol of loss of innocence. Taming Of Katherina In Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew Material culture significantly impacts the taming of Katherina by Petruchio in William Shakespeare s play, The Taming of the Shrew. Katherina begins the play constantly defending herself against the insults of her society and matching wits with the men in her life. Because her father and all potential suitors in Padua view her rebellious spirit as curst and shrewd, Petruchio s wit and interest encourage her acceptance of his proposal (Shakespeare 1.1.179). However, following a wedding in which her new husband arrives late to the ceremony, dresses poorly, and forces her to leave the celebration early against her will, the formerly outspoken Katherina feels embarrassment and a loss of dignity. Petruchio then builds on her insecurities and shock as he takes Katherina to his taming school in their new home to teach her to hold her tongue and mind her husband (Shakespeare 4.2.55). Petruchio accomplishes his plan while at the same time, by withholding food, sleep, and clothing, he becomes a greater shrew and devilish character than Katherina ever was before her taming process began. Petruchio s taming school is a place in which Katherina receives training to become a wife who follows the social conventions of the time which values quiet tongues and spirits in women. • 25. Voltaire Rationalism Voltaire was a rebellious and radical thinker, whose sharp wit and pointed satire drew the ire of critics who say he disrespected the orthodoxy of church and state, and won the respect of a growing rationalist movement that had emerged out of the public sphere in Europe between the 17th and 18th centuries. Although Voltaire is known today for being a philosophical powerhouse, whose writing is the stuff of legend, for most of his life he only wrote plays, poems, and novels. It wasn t until he was almost forty in 1733 that he published his first major philosophical work, Letters Concerning the English Nation. This was a series of letters that describe the customs, cultures and great men of England, and even though his praise for England, a country where all the arts are honored and rewarded, and where one could think free and nobly without being held back by any servile fear, may be overblown, they are important nonetheless, because it highlights the virtues that an Enlightened society should strive for. (114) In many ways these were not so much love letters to England, as much as they were a call for the rest of Europe to progress in the rationalist movement that England had set the tone for. Voltaire had suffered many setbacks in life before his trip to England in spring of 1726 that had shaped his mindset, and made him skeptical to authority. • 28. Sedgwick s Homosocial Continuum Of William Shakespeare s... Sedgwick s Homosocial Continuum in William Shakespeare s Othello Where does it end? Where did it begin? On a continuum, it is impossible to distinguish. Eve Sedgwick coined the idea of the Homosocial continuum. Her argument involves gender, class, and hierarchical relationships. In William Shakespeare s, Othello, many character pairings can be analyzed in relation to Sedgwick s theories. The relationships that most interestingly relate to the homosocial continuum are Desdemona and Emilia, Iago and Roderigo, and Iago and Othello. First, Desdemona and Emilia have a homosocial relationship that is easier to understand by today s standards based on Sedgwick s assertions. Sedgwick states, The apparent simplicity...of the continuum, [for women], would not be so striking if it were not in strong contrast to the arrangement among males (506). Emilia and Desdemona s relationship, while certainly blurring the lines at points, would not be questioned even today based on Sedgwick s claim that women are so much more free to move along the homosocial continuum. It is typical for women to care for one another and desire one another s company, including physical touch and intimate dialogue. At Desdemona s death bed, Emilia arrives to discover the situation and cries out, Emilia. Out, and alas! that was my lady s voice. Help, help, ho! help. O lady, speak again! Sweet Desdemona! O sweet mistress speak! (Act V, Scene III, Line 119) In this moment it is clear that Emilia ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the second half of 1967, General Westmoreland made three treks home to the United States to brief President Lyndon Johnson on the advancement of the war. They were especially important during rituals and ceremonies prior to soldiers going to war. Ares and Athena are important in the warriors or soldiers lives because of what role they play in battle and in rituals. Athena and Ares weren t as important to the soldiers as you would think, but in some places of battle they were very significant. When men went into battle they were disciplined and treated roughly so they could make the cut. They were also cared for by the leaders and two on Mt. Olympus. Ancient Greek Military War and Rituals The soldiers that participated in the Greek military were always nervous before they went into battle, but there weren t many rituals to the god and goddess of war. You would think that they would be bombarded with all these prayers and wishes, but the men didn t pray to them as much as would have thought. On the other hand there were of course some rituals performed by newcomers or new additions to the military. These men performed raging rituals to help them in battle. • 34. The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today ABSTRACT Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior. As Drezner states, pop culture can have an informing effect of calling attention to and framing a particular problem. Popular culture can also have an enabling effect of providing shorthand references that trigger awareness of a problem (Drezner 831). Beneath the horror and thematic thrill of the zombie film franchise, the zombie as a figure in popular culture has an enabling effect in providing awareness to society on a mass level. The vehicle of the illness is unorthodox and unique for the zombie genre but does not take away from its society commentary expressing the importance of counter public discourse that challenges the legitimacy of the public opinion. In commonality with the genre, in McDonald s film, they share a sense of unconsciousness, which as stated by Drezner, Both informing and enabling effects highlight the positive ways that the living dead can be expropriated as a metaphor to spark interest in new ideas. The moment zombies are added into the, a dry public policy problem suddenly becomes a rollicking argument accessible to ordinary citizens. (Drezner 833). Through the representation of the zombie in McDonald s film, the mind of private opinion masses into the public sphere as radical thought causing the victim to reform their behavior to that of commonality with the social structure of the zombies. • 37. Explain The Four Stages Of The Antiwar Movement Four Stages of the Antiwar Movement in Vietnam The Antiwar movement in Vietnam was a social movement that occurred from 1960 1970. It was the first mass movement against a war in American history. This movement consisted of many interests and concerns that eventually led to unification over the opposition of the Vietnam war. Although one may not visually see different stages in a movement, often because there is so much happening, but there are four stages within almost every movement. Emergence, coalescence, bureaucratization, and decline are all seen in the Antiwar movement against the Vietnam war. The first stage, emergence, occurred in 1964 and 1965. This stage was led by two different groups: left wing activists and college students. When the war began to grow in 1965, there were two goals that were set in place: to give activists enough knowledge about Vietnam to be able to draw others into action, and to normalize opposition, since many Americans were hesitant to go against their own country in a time of war (Zimmerman 2017). The peace groups educated the press and the public. The students invented a new way to train activists, the bizarrely successful campus teach ins, and over 120 ... Seeing as how the Civil War was known as the first modern war, it is appropriate to say that much new technological advancement was made. Behind every piece of new technology or idea, there is a person or team that dedicated their time to the development. When it comes to the Civil War aeronautics and much other future advancement, Thaddeus S. C. Lowe is the man behind it. Lowe was an integral part in the success of the aeronautics division of the war and paved the way for the world s future success in many other fields. Thaddeus Lowe s work was greatly under appreciated. He and other aeronauts proved time and time again just how useful balloons could be, but, the work of Wise, Lowe, Steiner, and other aeronauts as observers should have stirred up enthusiasm for balloons as military weapons, but neither the Army nor the American public properly appreciated the potential of aeronautics (Scamehorn 9). This never stopped Lowe from pursuing his dream. He fought to make ends meet by taking odd jobs so he could finance his education in physics and other subjects that would eventually set him up for his success in aeronautics. • 40. Speech On Stuttering In School As a child I suffered from severe stuttering. I came to America at the age of five therefore, English is not my primary language. This made it difficult for me to learn English. I had the capacity to develop abstract ideas and understood what was being told to me. I could not articulate what I wanted to say. I didn t not have the ability to communicate with others around me. My stuttering was so severe that it stunted my progress in learning English. The bullying I received in school caused me to become mute for sometime. My perspective at that time was detrimentally negative. In my mind if I am being bullied for the way I talk than why talk at all. My elementary school ended putting me in ESOL and special needs classes. I did not apply myself in school at all and had a lot of unpleasant behavioral incidents. People don t talk about this much, but I whole heartedly feel like my school kept me in special needs classes because they receive funding for the amount of special needs children they have. When I reached fourth grade my ESOL teacher looked at my FCAT scores and fought for me to be put in a regular class. She motivated me to apply myself, which I did. They eventually took me out of special needs, gave me more hours of ESOL and made me work with an SLP. Overtime, my stuttering decreased tremendously. Now, when I get nervous my stuttering comes through but not as much as before. In general the clip from A fish Called Wanda some what shows an accurate depiction of how ...
