Essay on The Dualism of Joe Christmas
William Faulkner s protagonist, Joe Christmas trajectory and immoral decisions become the
Siren s song that tip him over the stern of the boat that is his life. Christmas path takes turns and
twists that create a taciturn man who has been brought into the world unwanted; then, he
ruthlessly moves forward looking back at his past in order to make decisions for his future.
Light In August parallels Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , when Joe finds that he has
reached a fork in the road and has to plan for kind of life he wants to lead, contradicting factors
jumble his persona. This creates a dualism in Joe s soul, wherein two sides of a man challenge him
to try to make decisions for survival. Faulkner s novel sets up intriguing... Show more content on

Milly maintained that she would be able to free herself and her child from her father, yet her son
s story begins with his struggle even with his first breath. When Joe was born he was pure; a
light from the heavens, but the transposition of his persona becomes apparent as his life is
abridged by the decisions he makes. Joe hung a chair, his murder weapon, over his head. At that
moment he lost all innocence, The course destiny chooses is in a sense superfluous, for we are
not dealing with the kind of fatality which manifests itself in a dramatic progression of events,
from which we cannot add or subtract a single one without changing its entire passage, for to do
so would be like saying that someone has not fulfilled his destiny. Pouillon tells of the belief that
a man finds himself on a path and makes a decision not in order to achieve his destiny or in a pre
determined path, but instead Joe bases his choices when they appear in front of him. He kills
McEachern and after has to think about his next move. Running away with bobby was no longer an
option after she rejected his marriage proposal. He moves towards the road much like in Frost s

During my first semester at college I have had the privileged to be your student. I learned quite a
lot about writing and I hope to fully explain that in this letter. The portfolio that I put together
really showcases who my writing skills have improved. It shows the subjects that I struggled with
and worked on until I understood what I was doing wrong. The first time I did the grammar
exercises I felt dumbfounded by how I had spent four years taking high school english but could
barely complete the exercises. As time went on I really started to understand the rules behind the
way pronouns and their antecedents work which helped improve my writing. The first of the two

The first revision I did was to my first paper. That paper was a process essay in which I wrote
about how to choose the perfect watch. I decided to revise this essay because I could see how
obvious of errors I made with it being my first essay. I decided to reword and rearrange the first
paragraph quite a bit because it sounded too choppy. I also trimmed down any excess words and
sentences that seemed like the did not belong. I added more examples and also tried to explain
why a person should wear a watch. In my first draft I mostly explained the process of picking out
a watch but now I introduced why one would want to wear a watch. I said The watch is an
irreplaceable tool in terms of efficiency when trying to know the time or track the elapsed time
of an event. in my essay to try and explain why one would want to wear a watch. The second
revision I did was to my second paper I wrote. It was a cause and effect essay about the rise in
obesity in America. The main revision I did to this paper was I added a lot more cause and effect
terminology into my arguments. One specific quote from the paper is This attitude shift is
stagnating Americans, as a result, America is seeing a rise in obesity. This quote really drives
home what I was trying to prove with my essay using effective terminology for cause and effect
essays. Throughout my time taking this course I learned

What Does Synchronicity Mean
Synchronicity. What an interesting concept. I ve had several instances of synchronicity in my life,
but never knew what it was actually called. It feels good to actually know there is a term for these
random meaningful connections between things. What happened to you with the book and poem is
insane. The universe was trying to tell you to something important. Dreaminterpretations are
something I am very interested in. I think your dreams often relate to the synchronicity in your
life. I borrowed a friend s book about dream interpretations and it was an interesting read. I even
keep a dream journal so I can remember my dreams. I don t write in it as often as I should,
however, it helps me make connections between my dreams and what is happening... Show more

Tortilla Sun Character Analysis
Many people today have their own ideas and thoughts, these thoughts and ideas produce multiple
points of view. These points of view can clash and lead people to disagree with each other. This is
shown in the fictional passages Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez, and Tortilla Sun by Jennifer
Cervantes. The main characterin Confetti Girl disagree with her father on multiple topics. From her
english class, to her misunderstanding her father s main intentions. However, Izzy from Tortilla
Sun experiences the same misunderstanding with her mother. Both of these characters have their
own point of views and their own misunderstanding of their parents. Many emotions are expressed
from both characters, because of those misunderstandings. These are just some... Show more

There would be tensions created between Izzy and her mother, Izzy sees her mother as leaving
for herself, but however her mother is leaving so she could be able to finish her studies and
research. Which could of course lead her to better job opportunities for Izzy s mother and a
more successful future for Izzy. Because of Izzy s misunderstanding, there is tension created
between the both of them. This is shown in paragraph 34. Izzy replies with Opportunity? For
me? Or for you? . This shows that Izzy is unclear of the opportunities they both will receive if her
mother goes out to finish her research. This of course leads to tension created between both of
the characters. Another way this is shown is in paragraph 45. The text shows I think you re going
to like the village. Her voice became muffled now, like her mouth was pressed right up the against
the door, (Paragraph 45). This part of paragraph 45 show how the tension between the 2 characters
lead to them having conflicts that are draining and saddening. The difference in the point of view
from Izzy and her mother create this tension. This shows that Izzy misunderstands her mother and
because of this, tension is created between the both of them. These misunderstanding leads to both
of the characters not seeing eye to an eye. Which leads to many conflicts throughout both

The Physics Of An Experiment
In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later
more eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could
conceive of an experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by
examining the dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For
example, the hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms
would separate after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would
measure the spin components whose values are anti correlated after dissociation. If we define our
axis of measuring as the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent
measurement. If the measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin up, measurement along the same
axis for the other atom would yield spin down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is
an interesting experiment because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to
position and momentum conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated
paper with plausible instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought
experiment that is discusses the ideas of Bell s inequalities are as follows. Consider two
observers that are initially together and agree that they will be given red or green balls at regular
intervals, from this they conclude that only red or green 4

that Caribbean people know well. Meaning that there s someone for you out there with the same
values who would love you for you.
Marriage is tough! No if s, and s or but s about it, and if you want to make it work, it s something
that together as a couple that you want to work hard towards. There s going to be ups and
downs and you remember those wedding vows you made, whether you made them in a church,
at City Hall or even at a Las Vegas pull up window. Those vows, for better, for worse, for richer,
for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part can sometimes suck the life out of you,
making you wish that the death do us part come a whole lot quicker for that one other person, just
not you. But how do you know when your marriage is truly over and it s time to just part ways?
Most people tend to stay in a marriage because the Lord doesn t believe in divorces , or the
children are going to suffer . Don t you think that the children are currently suffering watching the
only parents they know walk around the house as strangers, not talking to each other, sleeping in
separate room and living the single life? What example are you showing those kids? Wouldn t you
rather be happy and single than miserable and married?
I m not saying that you should just throw in the towel and call it a day. Some marriages can be

What Does Genetic Inheritance May Influence One- Behaviour
Biological level of analysis Explain how genetic inheritance may influence one behaviour, with
reference to one relevant research study. Genetic inheritance is genes that are gain from parents or
ancestors, usually from generation to generation. Genes define characteristics in a person and are
passed down through generations; however, the environment can encourage these characteristics.
Genetic inheritance does play a role in one s behaviour also their environment. Researchers are not
quite sure on whether if genetic influence or the environment impacts one s behaviour the most.
Research done on families and how the family interacted with each other each day shows genetic
influence. The study to aid the relationship between genetic influence and conduct is the Minnesota
Twins study, which meant to watch the impact of environment and genetic influence upon a large
number of variables which included: brainpower remainder, identity and word related/professional
perks, by exploring the connection between these elements in twins raised separated utilizing MZTs
as a control. Regardless of these shortcomings the study does demonstrate a solid connection
between genetic influence and insight, proposing that genetic influence has a generous impact on
conduct. Heston, in 1966, led an examination to test to what degree schizophrenia is because of
hereditary works. The outcomes demonstrated that 10% of the grown ups with schizophrenic moms
were diagnosed with schizophrenia, while

The political landscape, economic climate change and religious beliefs all factored into the Cold
War due the fact that it lasted nearly 5 decades. The Cold Warchanged histrionically from each
administration change that every nation faced during these long time periods. In the Soviet Union
political landscapes went from Stalin to Khruschev then Brezhnev, each impacting the Cold War
with significant actions. In the film Czechoslovakia 1968: We Don t Want to Live on Our Knees

Stalin s Red Army in 1944 45. The same could be seen in Khruschev who shifted from non
aggressive too aggressive in Hungary October 31st 1958 (Zubok, p.117). Next, Soviet leader Leonid
Brezhnev invaded Prague, Czechoslovakia in the spring of 1968, which was dubbed the Brezhnev
Doctrine, which states Moscow has the right to intervene in any country where a communist
government had been threatened. (History.state.gov, 2014). This oppression could be felt in
economical, religious and cultural facets as well and all made subsequent Soviet/American
relations increasingly difficult.
First, through Stalin s aggression over the Eastern bloc after the fall of Nazi Germany, Soviet
communism was seen as the repressor. Then Khruschev sought to de Stalinize, once coming to

Metalloids Lab
Introduction The periodic table is composed of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Each of these
materials have their own properties that are used to define and identify them. Metals are commonly
solids at room temperature, malleable and ductile, they often have high tensile strength, they
commonly have a silver or grayish white luster, and they are good conductors of heat and
electricity. However, there are exceptions; mercury is a liquid at room temperature rather than solid,
gold and copper are yellow and reddish brown rather than silver, and manganese and bismuth are
brittle rather than malleable. Nonmetals as opposed to metals are not good conductors of electricity
and heat, they are gases at room temperature, and nonmetals tend to be brittle. The exemption of
non metals are carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, and selenium are nonmetals however they are solid at
room temperature rather than gaseous. Finally, metalloids have combined properties of both metals
and nonmetals however all metalloids are solid at room temperature.... Show more content on

When a material is conductive, the conductivity probe will have a solid and visible red light.
However if it is not conductive there will be no light and if it is a semi conductor there will be a
dim and possibly flashing light. If an element reacts with acid it will create bubbles when the
sample comes into contact with the acid. Metals will be shiny in luster, malleable, conductive, and
they will react with hydrochloric acid to create hydrogen gas. Nonmetals on the other hand will be
dull in luster, brittle or not malleable, they will not conductive, and they will not react with acid.
Finally, metalloids will will have properties of both nonmetals and

Ironclads Revolutionized Naval Warfare
Ironclads revolutionized naval warfare all around the world, while in other places they were
used to ferry goods from one place to another, this country sought out to build iron plated war
machines. The 3 main vessels I chose to go over is the USS Monitor, the CSS Virginia, and the
CSS Hunley. In my opinion, these naval vehicles stand out the most to me. The CSS Virginia
being the first ironclad to ever engage in a battle sinking 2 ships and close to 3 in its first attack.
The Monitor is a brand new class of warship almost like a raft. Then the Hunley was the first

The public influences the private to the extent that no one can leave the world s ideas or thoughts
that it throws onto them. Over time, their safe haven of their private space changes and just
becomes part of the vast empty world. Men and women can no longer be free to choose the way
they want to act; instead the public eye forces them into certain behaviors like gender roles. These
roles consist of how they should act, how they should speak, and how they should present
themselves. The United States of America s long tradition and definition of manliness has continued

In this story it primarily expresses what the idea of a man is, and how it that idea is extremely
narrow and regularly unfair. To help reinforce this, the author Paul Theroux gives an example in
his essay Be a man! strikes me as insulting and abusive. It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling,
obedient, soldierly, and stop thinking. (Theroux 1). That quote depicts Theroux s view of what
American society wants in men, and how it is exceedingly narrow and doesn t give much room
for anything else. Theroux is stating that that being a man means you have to follow one of these
traits. One of those points leads us that men have a sense of being brash, cold hearted, loyal,
warrior, and most importantly be tough. This sense of being tough is so dominate it allows for a
constant pressure to up hold this in the public eye. Like Theroux, many men have to abide by these
rules in order to within societal conformity. That means for males, they can only be seen as tough
when it comes to everything.
If a boy were to fall and scrape their knee and begin to cry at a young age, his father would most
likely respond to him by saying Stop crying, and be tough . But why would his father do such a
thing? The popular answer to that is because his father once said that to him when he fell and did
the same thing. This common example is exceptionally real and reinforces that men, whether boy or

He believed that minimal role of state in the economy and whether people act out of self interest
will benefit to the society. Invisible hand will regulate the market which at once satisfies self
interest and the needs of the community. Hence Smith s considered political economy as the
study of wealth generation . (Babe 2009: 14) Karl Marx with other economists worked on
Labour theory of Value (Babe: 14) believing that workers have rights to be paid for their work
(labour). This is another important characteristic of classical political economy. But on the other
hand he claimed that (to be in opposition to Adam Smith s theory) free market polarises wealth
where rich people get richer and poor get even poorer. So the public ownership of the means of
production is the only way of equal distribution of wealth. People act out unity and for the good of
society. Neoclassical Political Economy is all about consumers taste and preferences which is
valued and preferred more than labour. Class does not matter at all, but everyone is a consumer and
cultural goods and services became treated as commodity. In this neoclassical period of political
economy the main question is how humans want be most satisfied? And how markets function at
the best? (Hesmondhalgh 2007) Economics became essentially a mathematical deductive system in
stark contrast to classical political economy, which was fully engaged with the

The Importance Of Marine Conservation
Sophie Huggins The role of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) and why marine conservation is
important for saving the ocean for current and future generations. From the air to breathe, water
to drink, food to eat, the need for constant medical advances, and to the products that keep us
warm, safe, and entertained all these can come from or be transported by the oceans for human
society5. As the oceans cover a large expanse of the earth s surface and are huge ecosystems, our
security, economy and survival all require healthy oceans. Whether we live near the coast or far
from it, whether we consume seafood or not, life depends on the marine ecosystem. We need to
devote more energy into research, monitoring and enforcement of laws in order to increase
scientific knowledge, monitor exploitation, protect and prevent degradation and damage to
species and their habitats. There are many reasons why the oceans should be conserved and
protected. For instance, at any given moment in time, more than 97% of the world s water
resides in oceans which means that they make up 99% of liveable space on earth6. The World s
oceans provide a sixth of the animal protein that people eat5. More than 8 million tonnes of
plastic are dumped into the oceans every year, more than 80 percent of marine plastic litter,
comes from land based sources, such as drink bottles and plastic packaging. The remainder comes
from sea based plastics, such as fishing gear that has been dropped or discarded9. This is not

Examples Of Feud In Huckleberry Finn
Feud I have to admit I am a peaceful person. I do not like quarrels or bad feelings. Life is just too
short to waste myself on issues like feud. Feud is all around the world. Feud is an argument that
has been going around for so long between two people or groups (Dictionary,Kate Woodford page
1). Feud can happen in many ways, it can start by just a simple thing, and it can turn to a bad,
dangerous event. A example of feud is on the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, it really
helps us understand what feud is. A lot of feuds used to happen in US too. Countries deal with
fued as well, no matter how hard they try to ignore it, it will still happen. In the book
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, they give us an example of what feud is, and it really creates a
idea in our minds about feud, and how dangerous it is. It all starts by Huck going into this new

Buck and a nineteen year old Grangerford in a gunfight with the Shepherdsons. Both of
Grangerfords are killed. This is an example of feud in the book. Feud happens everywhere, but
people should try to stop them. Feud was a big deal in US, and it used to happen so often between

The Physics of Turbo Chargers Essay
Do you want your car to pick up speed faster? How about adding a turbo booster on that engine

understand the function of this component, lets look at the physics behind it. The Ideal Gas model
has much to do in turbochargers. I will explain the theory and components like the compressor,
turbine, intercooler, wastegate, and the BOV.
Matter is assumed to be composed of an enormous number of very tiny particles which are
indestructible. Gas is a state of matter. These tiny particles are separated by relatively large distances
, which interact elastically. This large space between the particles make it easy to compress a gas.
Which gives low mass to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

engine. Normal aspirated engines work to draw in their intake air. As the intake valve opens, the
piston s downward movement creates a vacuum which sucks in some air through the intake system.
After the work performed by the expansion of the gas in a small space, where the high pressure
creates a push against the piston, most of the heat or energy is dumped into the exhaust. This heated
air is not in the cylinder long enough to convert all the heat into mechanical energy.
We need to get some use out of this other wise wasted energy. What we really want is more
power, and for this unfortunately the engine needs to burn more fuel. The turbine fed by the
exhaust gases connects to a compressor that compresses intake air into the engine, which builds up
pressure in the intake manifold. Now when the intake valve opens, the compressed air is forced
into the combustion chamber. This allows more air to fill the chamber. We will need more fuel to
match the amount of air in the combustion chamber. On computerized cars, computers take care of
this accordingly. What you get is a more explosive force from combustion, and more compression,
about 60 percent better

Summary
The major difference of the natural gas market, which sets it apart from the truly global oil market,
is that the former has historically been developed with respect to the regional supply bases. This
was primarily defined by existing technology for natural gas transportation and availability of other
energy resource: primary oil and coal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Table 1: Natural gas market balance for North America
Source: BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2012 Most of the natural gas transportation in the
USA is done through 305,000 miles of transmission pipelines. Existing LNG degasification
facilities allow for limited international trade of LNG (Table 2). Due to free market pricing when
natural gas cost less in summer period, gas storing facilities are widespread over the country
including more than 400 underground storages and 113 LNG peaking facilities (EIA, 2008). Table

Source: BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2012 With the carbon emission regulations
recently introduced by US government, natural gas is the most likely substitution to coal for
electricity generation for years to come. Latest price reductions made natural gas from a cost
perspective much more attractive than coal. Recent spike in US and Canada shale gas
production have reduced the prices in the region to historical minimum of less than $4/MMBtu, a
half of the price for Europe and five times less the price for China or Japan. This difference in
prices has raised huge interest to export of LNG from USA to Asian market. Out of country s total

Sugar Slavery In African American
Selling Souls for Sugar: Sugar Slavery in the Sugar Islands
Up to 20,000 Haitians were lured into the Dominican Republic in 2016 alone. These unfortunate
people were promised high paying jobs, but when they arrived, they were enslaved to harvest the
crops of sugar cane fields. Sugar slavery has changed the world in many ways. Including the
circulation of sugar, the face of slavery, how slaves were looked upon, and how the world gets its
sugar today. Sugar slavery has had various consequences on both American and World History,
through not only how it changed the face of slavery, but how it circulated sugar throughout the
world as well.

A human slave today would cost about $90. There are more slaves in the world today than ever
before. There is an estimated 27 30 million slaves in the world. An estimated 21 million of those

largest form of modern day slavery. Not all human trafficking is sex trafficking. The annual
market value of human sex trafficking is $32 billion dollars. The annual market value other types
of human trafficking accumulates to around $8 million dollars. Human sex trafficking is
something we hear about a lot but we continue to ignore the problem facing today s society. A
majority of the trafficking victims are women and girls but men and boys can also be victims. In
2014, 223 cases of trafficking were reported in the United States alone. Annually, around 72% of
reported trafficking was related to sex. Some people say that it is possible to end all slavery in 25
years. Everyone has a role to play the government, big and small businesses of all kinds, consumers

The Role Of Eddie s Death In A View From The Bridge
Eddie s death seemed to cause D.R. to realize how lost and confused he was. D.R. was looking

The Importance Of Self Assessment
I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible
jobs and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are
the: Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a
look at my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The
highest themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventorywere the: Enterprising,
Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities,
potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The
assessment picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others.
The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying
attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which
is very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree
with is that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that.
The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. My interests were self expression,
art appreciation, communication and culture. The values were beauty, originality, independence
and imagination. I definitely view the world in color when dealing with most situations. There was

Reasons Behind the Failure of the Provisional Government...
Reasons Behind the Failure of the Provisional Government
The provisional government was brought about after the fall of the Tsarist government collapsed.
This was done purely because of lack of support for the Tsar and being the only major party. They
were in power for 8months and after making five serious errors; they were removed from power by
force. Kerensky ran the provisional government and it was his lack of judgement, just like the Tsars
stupidity and gullibility that let him down.
The first error he made was that he made no attempt to make the provisional government legitimate.
It never held a democratic election for fear of losing status. Even though at the start of their reign ...

This left an army that was majorly weakened and people thought that, like the Tsar he was a loser
of wars. The populations now have an even worse opinion of him and it was not good for his
popularity.
Kerensky underestimated the Bolshevik s and Lenin. Once he had fought off their uprising with
Lenin s plan of Peace for the Army, Bread for the Workers and Land for the Peasants , he thought
sending Lenin to exile was sufficient. After Lenin accepted that he had lost his chance to become
President, an uprising in Petrograd (Kornilov Affair a point I will go onto in my next paragraph)
means Kerensky has to rearm the Bolsheviks in order to retain order. This leaves other countries
and supporters of Lenin with a chance to send him back into the country and to try and push the
country into another revolution (bringing about communism ideally). Lenin s plan to try to please
as many people as possible could come back into effect and this time it had a substantially negative
effect on Kerensky s position in Russian parliament.
Continuing from my last point, Kerensky s lack of judgement about the Kornilov affair was a
definitive error of his. He thought that the Bolshevik s were attempting to take over Russia by means
of a coup, thus he asked Kornilov to send part of his army to protect him. When they got there,

Consequences Of Rules In Candade By Dudley Randall s Candide
Rules are challenged all the time for many reasons. Rules should only be challenged at an
appropriate time like maybe when you don t agree with the rules and your against it. Sometimes
challenging rules can have good consequences and bad consequences. In the poem The Ballad of
Birmingham written by Dudley Randall and the story Candidewritten by Voltaireboth have rules,
but in one story the rules were followed and the other rules were broken.
In the poem The Ballad of Birmingham A girls wants to go to a march but she is not allowed,
instead she is told to go to church she follows the rulers and she gets killed, says in the poem on
lines 31 and 32 ВЁO, here s the shoe my baby wore, But, baby, where are you. In the story
Candide a boy does not follow rules in a castle and gets kicked out of the castle states in the story
on paragraph 8 ВЁBaron Thunder ten Tronckh passed near the screen and beholding this cause and
effect caused Candide from the castle with great kicks on the backside.ВЁ

rules were changed, she thought thinks it s going to be dangerous No baby no you may not go
for the dogs are fierce and wild and clubs and hoses guns and jails aren t good for a little child.
The character Baby was told to go to the church instead of the march, states on lines 13 16 No,
Baby, no, you may not go, for i fear those guns will fire. But you may go to church instead and
sing in the children s choir. Baby followed her mother s orders. She has combed and brushed her
night dark hair and bathed rose petal sweet and drawn white gloves on her small brown hands
and white shoes on her feet Baby was now ready to go to church. The consequences she got for
following the rules of going to church instead of going to the march is that she was killed by an
explosive says on lines 25 28 For when she heard the explosion her eyes grew wet and wild she
raced through the streets of Birmingham calling for her child O, here s the shoe my baby wore,

A Research Project On Christ Calls Us Essay
Research Project Christ calls us to make disciples of all nations, whether that is locally or

an individual like myself reach the 16 29 year olds; those in my age group? Before I begin to

is hostile/ resistant to the idea of Christianity.

In Italy, the humanist educational program won rapid acceptance and, by the mid 15th century,
many of the upper classes had received a humanist education. Some of the highest officials of the
Catholic church were humanists with the resources of a mass important library. The much
humanist effort went into improving the understanding and translations of the biblical and early
Christian texts. According to the American Humanist Association, define humanism as is a
progressive life stance that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead
meaningful, ethical lives capable of adding to the greater good of humanity.
The romantic music movement was an intellectual movement that originated in the second half of
the 19th century in Europe, that strengthened in reaction to the industrial revolution. It was a revolt
against social and political norms of the ages of enlightenment. The romantic music movement was
embodied most strongly in the visual art, music, and literature, but had a major impact on history
and education. In the romantic period, music became more expressive and emotional, expanding to
encompass literary, artist, and philosophical themes. During the romantic period, music often took
on a much more nationalistic purpose. During the late 19th century there was a dramatic expansion
in the size of the orchestra and the diversity of instruments used in this ensemble. The public
concert became a key part of urban middle class society,

After thoroughly analyzing the federal budget from 2012, it is unquestionably evident that a
majority of the money is being put into a few major categories, leaving room for the rest of the
smaller categories to be financially neglected. Is this fair? It seems that the money could be more

To An Athlete Dying Young Analysis
Alfred Edward Housman, or as we all know as A.E. Housman, published poems with themes such
as love, death, loss and success. Many poems often contain irony where one uses language that
normally signifies the opposite. As for A.E. Housman s To an Athlete Dying Young, the poem
presents the death of an athlete in a twisted irony of success. As a whole, people view deathas a
horrible ending to one s life, and nothing could be worse than having one s life cut short by the
hands of time. Alfred Edward Housman, on the other hand, turned tears and sadness expected by
an elegy into shouts of joy for the athlete who died young. In the first stanza, the narrator
remembered the time when the success of the athlete is known by all the townspeople, We
chaired you through the market place (2). As many athletes know, the feeling of success is great
and having a whole town recognize that success is even better. One can easily note that the
success of the athlete was celebrated by many and recognized by all because the narrator stated
that Man and boy stood cheering by (3). In the second stanza, the narrator revealed that To day (5)

Housman s poem, To an Athlete Dying Young indicates that death is ironically such a great
event in an athlete s life, due to the fact that it preserves the high esteem that crowds held for

people gather to gaze the strengthless dead, (26), they will find that the athlete s talent and
success is unwithered (27) for when the athlete s success reached the highest point, the athlete s
death did not allow him to come back down. Many people view death as a tragedy, but the irony
in this poem is that the narrator and the townspeople see death as a blessing to the athlete because

Bad Monkey And The Social Phenomenon Of Crime
Social Science theories in criminology builds frameworks of empirical evidence which are used
to study and interpret the social phenomenon of crime (Callinicos, 1999). Of the many theories
developed over the course of the study of the science of criminology, Robert Agnew s General
Strain and Edwin H. Sutherland s Differential Association theories stood out the most while I
indulged in Carl Hiaasen novel Bad Monkey. In this essay I will be using Carl Hiaasen novel
Bad Monkey to draw out examples of Robert Agnew s General Strain and Edwin H. Sutherland s
Differential Association Theory. In this essay, I will be reviewing Andre Yancy and his newest
lover Dr. Rosa Campesino in an effort to better understand Agnew and Sutherland s theories
respectively. Robert Agnew s General Strain theory expands prior theorist s concepts which
emphasizes that the obstruction of an individual goal or the inability of an individual to achieve
conventional goals through appropriate means causes unlawful innovations, such as crime
(Brezina, 2010). More so, Agnew s expanded the concept of stressors in an effort to make stressors
classless. In addition, Agnew states that the strains that generate strong pressure which tend to lead
to criminal behaviors are chronic strains, strains that are rationalized to unjust or severe, and strains
that can be resolved by crime (Agnew, 2001). Lastly, Agnew believes that criminal response is
most likely to occur when normal coping strategies are absent. General

Where Did The English Evolved Into A Modern Language
English is the official language of many countries all over the world and is spoken more and
more every day( How English Evolved Into a Modern Language. ). Modern English is the product
of the invasions of England over a long period of time( Where Did the English Language Come
From? ). Throughout history English has influenced and been influenced by many different
languages( A Brief History of the English Language. ). Historically, English is divided into three
periods: Old English or Anglo Saxon, Middle English, and Modern English( What Are the Origins
of the English Language ).
Old English began when certain Germanic tribes migrated to Britain in the fifth century A.D.
Although the period of Old English continues up to the end of the eleventh century, there are no
records of it from before the seventh century( What Are the Origins of the English Language ).
There were four distinct dialects of Old English: Northumbrian,
Mercia, Kentish and West Saxon. This is known through differences in spelling. After 900 AD
West Saxon became widely used as a standard written language, and is sometimes referred to as
Classic
West Saxon ( Borrowing in Old English ).
There was a large influx of words into the language during the period of Old English. Old English
commonly used place names from Celtic, religious, army, and educational words from Latin, and
everyday words from Scandinavian. The Germanic tribes that invaded England had been exposed to
Latin before they invaded, so

The Various Forms Of Baroque Art In The 17th Century
Understanding the various forms of baroque art requires knowledge of its historical context. The
17th century could be called the first modern age. Human awareness of the world was continuously
expanding. Many scientific discoveries influenced art; Galileo s investigations of the planets, for
example, account for astronomical accuracy in many paintings of the time. BAROQUESTYLE
emphasized movement, contrast and variety as with the painter Caravaggio who used dark s in
background in contrast to lights in the foreground As in his picture The Three Musicians . The
center figure tunes a stringed instrument while the musician on the right sets down his violin to
study some sheet music. The assistant on the left is reaching for grapes and the third player in
the background holds a flute. All of this dipicts movement in the entire picture and a variety of
different figures doing different things. In the 1700 s, rulers were anxious to show off their power
and wealth. The most powerful of these was Louis XIV of France. Beginning in Louis s court, the
Baroque style under went a transformation. First , it changed from bold and dramic to festive and
decorative and eventually, to a new, lighter and more graceful art style know as the Rococo Style.

Theme Of Foreshadowing In Devil In The White City
Erik Larson uses a skilled combination of rhetorical strategies and syntactical devices
throughout Devil in the White City to not only paint a comparative narrative but also to create
powerfully alluring atmosphere that highlights the juxtaposition of the eriness of serial murders
with the detailed description of the Chicago World s Fair. Through the employment of
foreshadowing, juxtaposition, and deliberate humanization, Larson creates a vividly compelling
account of two stories for the purpose of assembling a story that is rich with complexity and,
when it come to certain characters, controversy as to the nature of certain characters. Larson s
novel, Devil in the White City, is riddled with intricately placed examples of foreshadowing that,
mixed with multiple flashbacks, helps to fabricate a story with a timeline meant to entice the
reader and, in a way, create a puzzle of a story, every chapter adding more and more pieces.
Perhaps the most remarkable instance of foreshadowing is when Larson alludes that Prendergast
not loading the first chamber of his gun will be of importance later on. This simple detail leaves
the reader wondering what will follow and who, if anyone, will be at the receiving end of
Prendergast s trigger. The primary purpose of this specific instance of foreshadowing is to redirect
the attention of the reader from the serial killings of H. H. Holmesto the unexpected turn of events
surrounding the mayor s murder. This, mixed with the overlying

Essay on Sending Your Child to a Day Care Center
Sending Your Child to a Day Care Center

Not all daycare centers do this for the parents but they should, to make it easier on the parents
(Shellenbarger, 2000).
When sending your child to a day care center, you should also keep in mind the requirements of
these centers according to Unites States model building codes. Child day care centers are found
in all kinds of areas whether it is a small or large town or building. Many are commercial ventures
but enough are found inside the homes of your average family. These child day care centers are
licensed by most states and the regulations require approval by the local fire marshal. According
to the model building codes, for it to be considered an education use group day care center, the
center must provide space for more than five people over the age of 2 ВЅ for less than 24 hours a
day. There are many regulations that are going to be found in a day care center that is up to
building code (Corbett, 1998).
Here are some of the things that parents might want to inspect before deciding to send their child

The Tiananmen Square Massacre
b. Tiananmen Square Massacre (June 4, 1989) Commonly known as the June Forth Incident
(е…四事件) or the 89 Democracy Movement (е…«д№ќж°‘иїђ), the Tiananmen Square protests
lead by students, was a bad memory for the protesters in China back in 1989. Student protesters in
Tiananmen Square, Beijing were brutally restrained by the Chinese military eight years before the
handover of Hong Kong to China. Chinese troops violently retook the square in Beijing where pro
democracy protesters had set up camp for weeks. The Tiananmen Square massacre left an unknown
number dead, with some estimates in the thousands, and smothered a democratic movement.

But as its citizenry awoke on July 1, 1997, there was no outward appearance of change apart from
the unnerving lines of People s Liberation Army (PLA) troop vehicles moving through the streets to
take over security responsibilities for the former British outpost. They have remained in barracks.
(Connors, 2015)
d. Anti subversion Act Mothballed (July 1, 2003) Six years after the handover, half a million
marchers questioned if the mantra, one country two systems was going to last 50 years. The
cause of the fear was anti subversion law Article 23 and its possible enactment in the Basic Law,
prohibiting any act of treason, secession, sedition, or subversion against the Central People s
Government, or theft of state secrets . It called for the banning of groups outlawed in mainland
China on national security grounds and gave police wide search and seizure powers without a
court order. By early September, the much maligned secretary for security, Regina Ip, was dumped,
and chief executive Tung Chee hwa was forced to postpone the introduction of the bill indefinitely.

Scoring Atopic Eczema
The Children s dermatology life quality index (CDLQI) is used to measure the impact of
eczema on children s (five years or older) quality of life over the previous seven days (Ben
Gashir et al., 2004). There are two different versions of this, a pictorial cartoon or a word
document version. The total score is calculated by summing the scores from each question, with a
maximum score of 30 and minimum of 0 where a higher score indicates more impairment in quality
of life. There are six dimensions that it measures; symptoms and feelings, leisure, school or
holidays, personal relationships, treatment and sleep. This questionnaire is chosen to be used in this
study as it includes a pictorial version which will allow for a better understanding for... Show more

School age children and adolescents in the control group should have a decrease in self esteem as
well as quality of life as result of going through puberty. However, because of this natural process,
the decline should not be significant. If the results from the factorial ANOVA are significant for
the eczema group, it should indicate a decline in quality of life as the eczema patient matures; this
trend should also be present for self esteem. As a result of this, severity should have a significant
increase. Proxy rating from caregivers in the eczema group should also show the same trends as
child rating. Control group proxy ratings should also show the same trends as child rating.
Hierarchical regression should reveal that quality of life is significant predictor of severity. When
self esteem is added in the second step, it should still be a significant relationship. Overall, if
results agree with the hypothesis it should show that as eczema patients matures, quality of life
will decrease, self esteem will also decrease which will increase the severity of the

Improving Patient Outcomes And Promote Higher Hospital...
In today s medical society, advancements are constantly being made to improve patient outcomes
and promote higher hospital satisfaction. With as much progress that has been made, there are
critical errors that can still be found in the medical field that, in turn, cause the lack of
reimbursement to a hospital. Through thorough research and evidence based practice, hospitals are
able to follow guidelines to prevent issues such as: patient falls, hospital acquired pressure ulcers,
catheter associated urinary tract infections, ventilator associated pneumonia, and many more. As
prevention for multiple poor patient outcomes, quality improvement studies can be implemented to
promote the wellbeing of the patient during the hospital stay, improve... Show more content on

Pressure ulcers are staged rated on severity (stage I stage IV, stage IV including damage to muscle
and possibly joints). The deeper and more severe the pressure ulcer is, the more difficult treating
the ulcer can be, costing the hospital more money per patient case. In one study, conducted in the
United States, it was found that treatment may cost up to seventy thousand dollars per pressure
ulcer in the hospital setting and up to eleven billion dollars annually (Damask, K. 2015).
According to the article Drugs Aging, many patients with severe ulcers, such as a stage three or
four, develop chronic wounds that may even result in death as a complication (Jaul, E. 2010).
Prevention is the key in regard to pressure ulcers. Therefore, quality improvement research can
improve hospital protocols, which may/may not be in place related to pressure ulcers, and improve
patient outcomes.
After considering the multitude of characteristics of the assigned unit, a root cause analysis was
completed to determine how at risk the hospital would be for acquiring another patient pressure
ulcer. Root causes analyses are effective in provid[ing] a tool to identify all the possible causes of
the problem not just the obvious ones which allows for possible solutions that might not have been
previously considered (Phillips, Simmonds 2013).

Smithfield Foods Executive Summary
Consequent to realizing my B.S in Science from Kansas State University I was recruited to work
for Smithfield Foods, Oklahoma Division. I used to work for this respected company for nine
years. During my employment, I realized the food industry invested millions every year in
promoting their brand towards consumers. The marketingdepartment did a phenomenal job in
advertising the Smithfield brand across the world. Smithfield Foods is the No. 1 U.S. producer of
packaged pork products. Their brand encompasses the labels: Farmland, John Morrell, and Eckrich;
just to name a few. Labeling is vital to the success of the corporation. Even though Smithfield
makes John Morrell products, the company does not believe in changing the label to Smithfield
Foods because their customers have product acceptance. Nevertheless, as Smithfield releases a new
foodproduct line customers are more apt to buy the product since they trust the brand. Moreover,
Smithfield does an exceptional job of product identification. Customers can easily identify with the
Smithfield logo without looking at the letters on the package. Therefore, making it easier for people
to buy their products.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals have faith in the brand plus people tend to stay with items they are familiar with instead
of putting time into researching other products brands from other companies, thus creating
shopping efficiency plus risk reduction among brand labels (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Smithfield
promoted awareness of pork consummation in Pork, The Other White Meat campaign with Mega
T.V. Chiefs. In 2006 Smithfield contracted Paula Dean to make commercials advertising their pork
products. Paula Dean proved to be a hit among viewers generating substantial revenue for

The Garden By Andrew Corvel Poetry
The poet who marvelled the readers and critics alike in the last decade of the nineteenth century
through his exquisite handling of subject matter and stylistic devices is obviously Andrew
Marvell(1621 1678).Originally associated with the school of Donne ,that is , the metaphysical
school of poetry which focused on abstruse terminology, dramatic beginning, ratiocinative mode,
colloquial language, wit, pun, paradox, ambiguity and above all, the use of metaphysical
conceit; his is a veritable mosaic where he deals with varied and variegated themes. His poems
like To His Coy Mistress, The Coronet, Mourning, Last Instructions to a Painter, The Fair
Singer, The Picture of Little T.C, The Definition of Love, The Garden, The Mower s Song, An
Horatian Ode Upon Cromwell s Return from Ireland, On a Drop of Dew, Upon Appleton House,
to My Lord Fairfax are unique in matter as well as manner, theme as well as treatment, content as
well as style. In his poems, Marvell treated political, carpe diem, personal, religious and pastoral
themes. His The Garden is obviously the finest poem of the poems of rural solitude (Joseph H.

As Rosalie L. Colie comments in My Echoing Song : Andrew Marvell s Poetry of Criticism:
The Garden itself brings to its height the tradition of Renaissance garden poetry, at the same time
refining and exploiting many other traditions not primarily associated with gardens....| (p.14)
It is significant to note that garden theme is one of the recurring and preponderant themes in
Marvell s poetry. In different poems like The Nymph Complaining, Little T.C, Upon Appleton
House Marvell represents different gardens in different ways. Whereas in The Nymph Complaining
the beautiful garden is created to satisfy the demands of the creator¬¬¬¬¬¬ the heroine,
in Upon Appleton House the garden assumes a paradisiacal stature with its pristine

Final essay Trumps new world order Krysteena Rodriguez Western Connecticut State University
History 149 American history May 12, 2017 With last year being the first election that I could
vote in, I took particular interest in keeping up with politics as much as I could. It was truly sad
to see Obama leave office, being that he was a symbol of hope for so many, regardless of the
critiques on how well he did his job. When our current president, something that is still hard for
me to face the reality of, Donald Trump, announced his campaign I thought he had no chance. I
did not see it possible for a man with no political background, who is only known for being a
wealthy businessman along with reality star to become the leader of... Show more content on

It would be beneficial for the president to meet with the founders of the movement, to discuss
what they are advocating for and how the president can intervene. Let s look back at the early
1900s. Our countries history of slavery is no secret. Although slavery was abolished decades
prior, the mindsets of those who lived during those times were stagnant. While they were freed
from slavery, for long after, African Americans were not privileged with the same freedom of
white Americans. It is common when racism is discussed that people mention when slavery was
abolished however limitations were still put on ex slaves that limited their possibility of
growing and achieving more. Foner stated, Nor could blacks, the majority desperately poor,
participate fully in the emerging consumer economy, either as employees in the new department
stores (except as janitors and cleaning women) or as purchasers of the consumer goods now
flooding the marketplace. It is important that the struggles faced even after abolition be
recognized. When blacks did not abide by Jim Crow laws created to keep black and whites
divided they were met with violence. Foner mentioned a riot that resulted in the death of 39
people, leaving 500 others injured that took place due to a black male accidently overstepping a
line that divided beaches between

Light In August parallels Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , when Joe finds that he has reached a fork in the road and has to plan for kind of life he wants to lead, contradicting factors jumble his persona. This creates a dualism in Joe s soul, wherein two sides of a man challenge him to try to make decisions for survival. Faulkner s novel sets up intriguing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joe hung a chair, his murder weapon, over his head. At that moment he lost all innocence, The course destiny chooses is in a sense superfluous, for we are not dealing with the kind of fatality which manifests itself in a dramatic progression of events, from which we cannot add or subtract a single one without changing its entire passage, for to do so would be like saying that someone has not fulfilled his destiny. • 6. The Physics Of An Experiment In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later more eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could conceive of an experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by examining the dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For example, the hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms would separate after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would measure the spin components whose values are anti correlated after dissociation. If we define our axis of measuring as the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent measurement. If the measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin up, measurement along the same axis for the other atom would yield spin down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is an interesting experiment because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to position and momentum conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated paper with plausible instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought experiment that is discusses the ideas of Bell s inequalities are as follows. Genetic inheritance is genes that are gain from parents or ancestors, usually from generation to generation. Genes define characteristics in a person and are passed down through generations; however, the environment can encourage these characteristics. Genetic inheritance does play a role in one s behaviour also their environment. Researchers are not quite sure on whether if genetic influence or the environment impacts one s behaviour the most. Research done on families and how the family interacted with each other each day shows genetic influence. The study to aid the relationship between genetic influence and conduct is the Minnesota Twins study, which meant to watch the impact of environment and genetic influence upon a large number of variables which included: brainpower remainder, identity and word related/professional perks, by exploring the connection between these elements in twins raised separated utilizing MZTs as a control. The Importance Of Marine Conservation Sophie Huggins The role of Marine Protected Areas (MPA s) and why marine conservation is important for saving the ocean for current and future generations. From the air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat, the need for constant medical advances, and to the products that keep us warm, safe, and entertained all these can come from or be transported by the oceans for human society5. As the oceans cover a large expanse of the earth s surface and are huge ecosystems, our security, economy and survival all require healthy oceans. Whether we live near the coast or far from it, whether we consume seafood or not, life depends on the marine ecosystem. We need to devote more energy into research, monitoring and enforcement of laws in order to increase scientific knowledge, monitor exploitation, protect and prevent degradation and damage to species and their habitats. There are many reasons why the oceans should be conserved and protected. For instance, at any given moment in time, more than 97% of the world s water resides in oceans which means that they make up 99% of liveable space on earth6. The World s oceans provide a sixth of the animal protein that people eat5. I will explain the theory and components like the compressor, turbine, intercooler, wastegate, and the BOV. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A turbine is placed in the path of the exhaust gases which are exiting the engine. These gases are caught in the turbine causing it to spin. This spins a shaft along with another pinwheel called the compressor, which is placed in the intake air s path. This compresses the air on its way into the engine. Normal aspirated engines work to draw in their intake air. As the intake valve opens, the piston s downward movement creates a vacuum which sucks in some air through the intake system. After the work performed by the expansion of the gas in a small space, where the high pressure creates a push against the piston, most of the heat or energy is dumped into the exhaust. This heated air is not in the cylinder long enough to convert all the heat into mechanical energy. We need to get some use out of this other wise wasted energy. What we really want is more power, and for this unfortunately the engine needs to burn more fuel. The turbine fed by the exhaust gases connects to a compressor that compresses intake air into the engine, which builds up pressure in the intake manifold. Now when the intake valve opens, the compressed air is forced into the combustion chamber. This allows more air to fill the chamber. We will need more fuel to match the amount of air in the combustion chamber. On computerized cars, computers take care of this accordingly. What you get is a more explosive force from combustion, and more compression, about 60 percent better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Self Assessment I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible jobs and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are the: Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a look at my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The highest themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventorywere the: Enterprising, Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities, potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The assessment picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others. The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which is very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree with is that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that. The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. Reasons Behind the Failure of the Provisional Government The provisional government was brought about after the fall of the Tsarist government collapsed. This was done purely because of lack of support for the Tsar and being the only major party. They were in power for 8months and after making five serious errors; they were removed from power by force. Kerensky ran the provisional government and it was his lack of judgement, just like the Tsars stupidity and gullibility that let him down. The first error he made was that he made no attempt to make the provisional government legitimate. It never held a democratic election for fear of losing status. The populations now have an even worse opinion of him and it was not good for his popularity. Kerensky underestimated the Bolshevik s and Lenin. Once he had fought off their uprising with Lenin s plan of Peace for the Army, Bread for the Workers and Land for the Peasants , he thought sending Lenin to exile was sufficient. After Lenin accepted that he had lost his chance to become President, an uprising in Petrograd (Kornilov Affair a point I will go onto in my next paragraph) means Kerensky has to rearm the Bolsheviks in order to retain order. This leaves other countries and supporters of Lenin with a chance to send him back into the country and to try and push the country into another revolution (bringing about communism ideally). Lenin s plan to try to please as many people as possible could come back into effect and this time it had a substantially negative effect on Kerensky s position in Russian parliament. Continuing from my last point, Kerensky s lack of judgement about the Kornilov affair was a definitive error of his. He thought that the Bolshevik s were attempting to take over Russia by means of a coup, thus he asked Kornilov to send part of his army to protect him. When they got there, ... Many poems often contain irony where one uses language that normally signifies the opposite. As for A.E. Housman s To an Athlete Dying Young, the poem presents the death of an athlete in a twisted irony of success. As a whole, people view deathas a horrible ending to one s life, and nothing could be worse than having one s life cut short by the hands of time. Alfred Edward Housman, on the other hand, turned tears and sadness expected by an elegy into shouts of joy for the athlete who died young. In the first stanza, the narrator remembered the time when the success of the athlete is known by all the townspeople, We chaired you through the market place (2). As many athletes know, the feeling of success is great and having a whole town recognize that success is even better. One can easily note that the success of the athlete was celebrated by many and recognized by all because the narrator stated that Man and boy stood cheering by (3). In this essay, I will be reviewing Andre Yancy and his newest lover Dr. Rosa Campesino in an effort to better understand Agnew and Sutherland s theories respectively. Robert Agnew s General Strain theory expands prior theorist s concepts which emphasizes that the obstruction of an individual goal or the inability of an individual to achieve conventional goals through appropriate means causes unlawful innovations, such as crime (Brezina, 2010). More so, Agnew s expanded the concept of stressors in an effort to make stressors classless. In addition, Agnew states that the strains that generate strong pressure which tend to lead to criminal behaviors are chronic strains, strains that are rationalized to unjust or severe, and strains that can be resolved by crime (Agnew, 2001). Through the employment of foreshadowing, juxtaposition, and deliberate humanization, Larson creates a vividly compelling account of two stories for the purpose of assembling a story that is rich with complexity and, when it come to certain characters, controversy as to the nature of certain characters. Larson s novel, Devil in the White City, is riddled with intricately placed examples of foreshadowing that, mixed with multiple flashbacks, helps to fabricate a story with a timeline meant to entice the reader and, in a way, create a puzzle of a story, every chapter adding more and more pieces. Perhaps the most remarkable instance of foreshadowing is when Larson alludes that Prendergast not loading the first chamber of his gun will be of importance later on. This simple detail leaves the reader wondering what will follow and who, if anyone, will be at the receiving end of Prendergast s trigger. The primary purpose of this specific instance of foreshadowing is to redirect the attention of the reader from the serial killings of H. H. Holmesto the unexpected turn of events surrounding the mayor s murder. This, mixed with the overlying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
