• Democracy is a system
of running organizations, businesses, and
groups in which each member is entitled to
vote and take part in decisions.

3. Main Points
• People Elected government.
• There is freedom of speech.
• There is no one party government In the country.
• Right to give vote to elect their representatives.
• The common people, considered as the primary
source of political power.
• The principles of social equality and respect for
the individual within a community

4. Principle
• Free elections are used to select representatives of the
people.
• The powers of government are based on the consent of the
governed.
• Public questions are decided by the will of the majority.
• Rule of law guarantees rights and freedoms.
1. Freedom to live or travel anywhere in the country.
2. Freedom to work at any job for which one qualifies.
3. Freedom to marry and raise a family.
4. Freedom to receive free education in public schools.
5. Freedom to join a political party, union, or other legal
group.

5. Merits
• Promotes equality among people
• It ensures to the people freedom of speech,
conscience, assembly and action.
• improves the quality of decision making
• Allow room to mistakes

6. Demerits
• It sometimes leads to establish the majority
view over the minority view.
• It does not encourage individuals to give
their opinions.
• It is a very expensive form of government
because elections have to be conducted
periodically to various office.
• Violence during election.

7. Democracy In Pakistan
• Democracy is one of the ideologies and systems
upon which Pakistan was sought to
be established in 1947
• But unfortunately upto 2013 a good democratic
system can not be established in Pakistan due to
military coups and political uncertainty
• The election of 2013 was the first democratic
election which complete a 5 year term for the
first time

8. Why poor democracy in Pakistan
• Corruption(a corrupt society can never be
democratic)

• Frequent intervention of Non civilian forces into

• Weak Party System.
• Manipulation of election process
• In the west democracy means bundles of freedom
but in Pakistan it is a way to rule

9. Solutions
• Feudalism should be immediately abolished
• Judiciary should be made Independent
• Free and fair election should be ensured
through independent Election Commission
inorder to prevent the rigging.
• Democracy education should be incorporated
in the syllabus at all levels of education
