conversational implicature is a sort of inference that has been derived from speaker's said utterance, to say going deep to abstract what is meant by speaker rather what is being said.
it is like drawing inference with the help of non verbal cues, schemata of the situation as well.An utterance which conveys meaning beyond its proposition.what is said must be understood in terms of what philosophers define as meaning, that is, sense and reference, what is said is the result of a linguistic computation implying the description of a full proposition with a truth value.

Morpheme, morphological analysis and morphemic analysissyerencs
Structure of morphological analysis and morphemic analysis. The morpheme refers to either a class of forms or an abstraction from the concrete forms of language. A morpheme is internally indivisible, it cannot be further subdivided or analyzed into smaller meaningful unit. It is also externally transportable; it has positional mobility or free distribution, occurring in various context.
Morphemes are represented which curly brace { } using capital letters for lexemes or descriptive designations for types of morphemes.

Deixis is a technical term (from Greek) for one of the most basic things we do with utterances (Yule, 1996, p. 9). It means “pointing via” language. Any linguistic form used to accomplish this “pointing” is called a deictic expression. Deictic expressions are also sometimes called indexical.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

3. Definition of Deixis
• D. Alan Cruse (2000):
Deixis means different things to different people. For Buhler
(1934), any expression which located a referent in space or time
was a deictic expression.
• J.R Hurford (2007):
Deitic words is sets of words whose meanings vary
systematically according to who uses them, and where and when
they are used. The general phenomenon of their occurrence is
called deixis. The word deixis is from a Greek word meaning
‘pointing’.
4. • Deictic expressions (Deixis) are based on the idea of
identification or drawing attention through pointing by
means of language. Deictic expression is any expression that
uses deictic word.
• A Deictic word is one which takes some element of its
meaning from the context or situation (i.e. the speaker, the
addressee, the time and the place) of the utterance in which
it is used.
Definition of Deixis
5. Deictic expressions
• Deictic expressions are meaningful in a given context.
• Deictic expressions are words, phrases and features of grammar that have
to be interpreted in relation to the situation in which they are uttered, such as
me ‘the sender of this utterance’ or here ‘the place where the sender is’.
• Our semantic knowledge of the meanings of deictic expressions guides us on
how, pragmatically, to interpret them in context. Thus we have yesterday ‘the
day before the day of utterance’, this ‘the obvious-in-context thing near the
speaker or coming soon’, she ‘the female individual’ and so on.
Patrick Griffith:2006
6. Kinds of Deixis
• Person Deixis
• Spatial/Place Deixis
• Time/Temporal Deixis
• Social Deixis
• Discourse Deixis
7. Person deixis
• Any expression used to point to a person
• Person deixis involves basically the speaker, known as the first person, the
addressee, known as the second person, and other significant participants in
the speech situation, neither speaker nor hearer; these are known as third
person. (J.R Hurford:2007)
Singular Plural
1st Person I/my/me We/our/us
2nd Person You/your You/your
3rd Person She/his/her; he/his/him, it/its They/their/them
8. Examples of Person Deixis
• I am going to the movies.
• Would you like to have dinner?
• She wants to get the best score in the final exam.
9. Spatial/Place deixis
• Concerns itself with the spatial locations relevant to an
utterance.
• Spatial deixis manifests itself principally in the form of
locative adverbs such as here (means something like region
relatively close to the speaker); that (means relatively distant
from the speaker) and demonstratives/determiners such as
this and that.
10. Examples of Place Deixis
• I enjoy living in this city.
• She was sitting over there.
11. Time/Temporal Deixis
• Any expression used to point to a time
• Concerns itself with the various times involved in and referred to in
an utterance.
• Temporal deictics function to locate points or intervals on the time
axis, using (ultimately) the moment of utterance as a reference
point. There are thus three major divisions of the time axis:
(i) before the moment of utterance
(ii) at the time of utterance
(iii) after the time of utterance.
• The most basic temporal deictics in English are now and then
12. Time/Temporal Deixis
• The compatibility of some deictic adverbials with past,
present and future time.
Past time Present time Future time
Last time
Yesterday
Last year
Now
at present
today
nowadays
next year
Tomorrow
in forty-five minutes from now
13. Examples of Time Deixis
• It is raining now, but I hope when you read this will be
sunny.
• I saw him last week.
14. Social Deixis
It is used to point out to a reference based on the class the speaker
refers to. There are two types of social deixis. They are :
• Absolute deictic : Forms attached to social roles. for example: your
honor/Mr.President.
• Relational deictic : Reference to a social relationship between the
speaker and addressee. They are lexical and they make use of
pronouns (my, he, etc).
15. Discourse Deixis
• Discourse deixis refers to such matters as the use of this to
point to future discourse elements
• It is expressed in terms of expressions related to time and
space such as next, subsequently, prior to that and so on.
17. Reference
• What speaker or writers do when they use expressions to pick out
for their audience particular people, things, times, places, events or
ideas;.
• As an act in which a speaker, or writer uses linguistics form to enable
listener, reader, to identify something.
18. Examples of reference
• Look at that book! It has many chapters.
• Jhony has so many books. They are vocabulary, novel,
translation book., etc.
