• 1. Appearance. Look smart. Dress
professional. Not fashionable!
• 2. Communication skills in English. Hotel
industry developed in Europe & America. The
syllabus in all the hotel management colleges
is imported from West. Best books, hotels and
top spending customers, all come from Europe
and America. English is the language of
hospitality.
6. Requirements of the hospitality
career?
• 3. Professional knowledge & skills. The
subjects in hotel management may not be very
advanced, like medicine & engineering, but, it
does have a deep knowledge base, that is
centuries old. Skills are highly refined and take
years to master.
There is a 10,000 hour and 21 days rule to
mastering a skill. Practice a skill for 10,000 hours
to become world class. If you want to change a
habit, practice the new habit for 21 days.
7. Requirements of the hospitality
career?
• 4. Attitude. Used much, understood not so
much. Attitude is your thinking and your
motive in doing some work. It is your
approach towards people and life. Remember
that man is a social animal. Maximum good
for maximum people, is the desired attitude in
hospitality.

Exams are held twice a year.

• What is service aptitude?
• The Customer Service Aptitude Profile (CSAP)
is an adaptation of the Sales Achievement
Predictor, and measures personality traits that
are critical to success in customer service and
customer service-related positions.
22. Personality Traits
• Psychometric tests are often used as part of the
recruitment process, and are a way for employers
to assess your intelligence, skills and personality.
Recruiters use the results from these tests to
determine, whether you would be a suitable match
for the company, to which you are applying.
• The tests are structured to accurately evaluate
your capacity to work with others, process
information and cope with the stresses of the job.
The vast majority of psychometric tests are now
taken online, though very occasionally an employer
may use a paper test.
• An example of psychometric test is Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator (MBTI).

• Transactional Analysis: it is a theory of human
behaviour, based on the idea that, we all are a
composite personality, with three
components, Parent, Adult & Child. Every
interaction between two persons is called
“transaction”. A successful transaction is when
the two persons behave, as expected.
Otherwise, it is a crossed transaction. Try to
