Motivational Metrics: A Publisher and Library CollaborationDanea Johnson
In response to increasing internal demand for and focus on metrics associated with the work of the National Academics of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in 2015 the National Academies Press and the Research Center launched an institution wide initiative to standardize our data collection processes and create “best practice” guidelines for staff. This ongoing initiative includes: developing a common definition for impact, a standardized taxonomy for data collection, development work on the internal metrics platform, staff training on data analysis, and marketing tools for reports to sponsors and new funding proposals. MacDonald and Willis will present on how their metrics initiative has impacted the work of librarians, researchers, and program staff, what they have learned about the increasing importance of metrics in scholarly publishing, and what they have in mind for the future.
Alphonse MacDonald is currently Acting Co-Executive Director of the National Academies Press. He has more than 20 years experience in the digital media and publishing sectors and has developed electronic publishing and online outreach programs for a broad range of publishers and non-profit organizations including Island Press, Conservation International, and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Colleen Willis is currently the Manager of the Research Center at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. She manages a staff of 4 research librarians who support the Academies with concept development, project proposals, conducting research, report writing and measuring impact.
As part of a webinar series on Open Research in Ireland, the National Open Research Forum (NORF) presented a webinar focused on Infrastructures to support Open Research on 30 March 2021. This presentation on the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) was delivered by Sarah Jones (GÉANT).

OpenUP Final Conference is the final conference of the EU funded H2020 project OpenUP. In OpenUP Final Conference, key aspects and challenges of the currently transforming science landscape were showcased in different interactive sessions, including an Open Science Cafe and Marketplace for new and innovative tools, methods and ideas. Different Motivate and Meet sessions fostered interaction and exchange in the context of Open Science.
It brought together different stakeholders who have a "stake" in the researcher lifecycle and helped them to learn about innovative methods for peer review, dissemination of research results and impact measurement, and get involved in shaping open science policies meeting their needs.

Presentation at IFIP EGOV 2016 Conference. September 5, 2016.
Abstract. The rhetoric of open government data (OGD) promises that data transparency will lead to multiple public benefits: economic and social innovation, civic participation, public-private collaboration, and public accountability. In reality much less has been accomplished in practice than advocates have hoped. OGD research to address this gap tends to fall into two streams – one that focuses on data publication and re-use for purposes of innovation, and one that views publication as a stimulus for civic participation and government accountability - with little attention to whether or how these two views interact. In this paper we use an ecosystem perspective to explore this question. Through an exploratory case study we show how two related cycles of influences can flow from open data publication. The first addresses transparency for innovation goals, the second addresses larger issues of data use for public engagement and greater government accountability. Together they help explain the potential and also the barriers to reaching both kinds of goals.

Do you know how data-driven approaches can influence the policy cycle and the benefits derived from this? Have you ever participated in a policy-lab, collaborating with other stakeholders to develop and test a policy? In this session, Anne Fleur van Veenstra from TNO will delve into current practices, insights and lessons learnt from current policy-lab projects, followed by Francesco Mureddu, from the Lisbon Council, who will look ahead and identify the main challenges and opportunities by presenting and discussing a roadmap for Future Research Directions in data-driven Policy Making.
Topics covered at the workshop address basic questions related to Research Data Management for open data, which include preparing a Research Data Management (RDM) plan, licensing data and intellectual property, metadata and contextual description (documentation), ethical and legal aspects of sharing sensitive or confidential data, anonymizing research data for reuse, data archiving and long-term preservation, and data security and storage.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
