Purpose, Users, Themes <ul><ul><li>To provide access to free Internet sources such as full-text documents, news and events </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Target audience is the global community of professionals: researchers, policy-makers and students working in the field of the portal theme </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Specific portal themes are selected to reflect focal areas of the different KIT departments </li></ul></ul>

Content & Structure <ul><li>KIT portals link to resources available elsewhere on the Internet: </li></ul><ul><li>there is access from the KIT site, no availability </li></ul><ul><li>The portals contain a record for each resource with a short bibliographic description, and the link </li></ul><ul><li>The Smartsite content management system is used for news and events, and M2L/Minisis for the other resources </li></ul>

Updating <ul><li>The portals are updated with news, events and other content additions on a weekly basis </li></ul><ul><li>e-newsletters, RSS and e-mail alerts provide the bulk material for selection; </li></ul><ul><li> accounts are used to manage the workflow </li></ul><ul><li>RSS & E-mail alerts are generated for each portal </li></ul>

Present & future <ul><li>The portals are well known among the target audiences, and portal users appreciate the service </li></ul><ul><li>Future plans include raising the level of interactivity: more feedback and input from users </li></ul><ul><li>The portals may be connected to communities of practice </li></ul>
