WHAT IS CYBERGOGY?
PEDAGOGY & ANDRAGOGY
- The study of methods and
practices of teaching.
- Usually refers to formal
education.
- Structured, based around
a sequenced curriculum.
- Learners are dependent
on instructors.
- The study of self-directed
learning.
- Propounded by Malcolm
Knowles
- A more fluid conception
of learning where learners
are responsible of their
own learning.
- Learning as per needs,
and based on experiences
- Goals-oriented.
CYBERGOGY?
- Trying to bridge between Pedagogy & Andragogy.
- Creating learner-centred, autonomous and collaborative virtual
learning environment.
- In Cybergogy, instructors need to understand that methods and
strategies for F2F may not work in virtual environments. The
‘culture’ is different.

CYBERGOGY?
- In Cybergogy, learning becomes ubiquitous. Educators need to
understand that his/her students already have access to the plethora
of knowledge via the Internet.
- Their thinking, behaviours, and emotions are deeply connected to the
‘culture(s)’ of computers, technology, and the Internet.

CYBERGOGY?
- The roles of teachers/instructors have changed/has to change:

Infusing the triad: Thoughts, Behaviours, and Emotions
If we teach today’s students as
we taught yesterday’s, we rob
them of tomorrow

HOW?
CYBERGOGY HAS BEEN AROUND
SINCE AS EARLY AS 2006.
SO WHY THERE’S NO TRACTION?

“What makes a lesson interesting

HOW CAN CYBERGOGY CHANGE
OUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE?
CYBERGOGY?
- We need to understand what makes a -gogy ticks.
- We need to understand the culture of learning in cyberspace.
- We need to understand the potential impact of cybergogy in our
classroom.
- We need to understand the enablers and barriers of cybergogy.

CYBERGOGY VS PEDAGOGY:
FINDING A BALANCE AMONG
EDUCATORS
FROM THE FRONT LINES OF CYBERGOGY
PRACTITIONER: LESSONS LEARNED
- Require a certain degree technical knowledge.
- Took my time to understand my clients.
- Modelled from famous YouTubers.
- Practice, Practice, Practice.
- Leap of faith.
- People will start recognise your expertise.
- Engage/Creating a Community of Practice.
- Sharing knowledge.
GOING FORWARD:
CHALLENGES AHEAD
We will see a dichotomy of
learning trends: the need for a
greater educational reach, and
calls for a more personalised
learning. This introduces a layer of
complexity, and is an opportunity
for educational researchers to
build intelligent and adaptive
system and contents.
