The Long Profile Of A River
Introduction
In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order to do
this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river; the
upper course, the middle course, and the lower course.
The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is a
river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The source of
the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into
Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary
of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the
river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition.
The sites which I will be investigating on are:
Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109
Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006
Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124
The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it
moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of the
river and its characteristics.
The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course to
the lower course. A quicker and easier way to present this idea is through a Bradshaw Model (see the

The Importance Of Volunteering At The Bakersfield Spca
I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Bakersfield SPCA. Volunteering here was very rewarding as I
was able to provide care for cats and dogs who may never get adopted. My responsibilities consisted
of cleaning the cats kennels and making them presentable to any potential adopters. This consisted of
wiping the outside of the kennels and replacing the cat litter boxes so the cats would have a clean
place to use. I also cleaned the inside of the kennels and provided them with water and food. Through
this process I began meeting the cats as they would approach me to see what was going on. I realized
that most of the cats were either grey with black markings or entirely black which meant that they had
a less of a chance of getting adopted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such as climbing structures, scratching post or a place to run (2/26/17). In an attempt to meet the cat s
telos I got to spend time grooming and socializing the animals in an effort to make them more sociable
which would make them more adoptable.
I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the grass
underneath their paws. While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do not get to
come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they depend a lot on
the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact amount of people that
will help perform the necessary duties but they lack the extra help that can help with taking the dogs
out or grooming the cats. For this reason, they depend greatly on the community to go in and
volunteer.
Animal shelters and the community The Bakersfield SPCA is one of the smallest shelters within
Bakersfield. They depend greatly on the community to help sponsor animals. This means that the
community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which include food,
bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the community are
cats that are older or have been at the shelter longer than the rest. This is a form of trying to save as
many animals as possible by defining the animal as a shelter mascot (3/28/2017). Which will give
those animals

Comparing Christina Rossetti’s Goblin Market and William...
Comparing Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market and William Wordsworth s The Thorn
On the surface, the poems Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti and The Thorn by William
Wordsworth appear to be very different literary works. Goblin Market was written by a young woman
in the Victorian period about two sisters who develop a special bond through the rescue of one sister
by the other. The Thorn was written by the Romantic poet William Wordsworth about a middle aged
man and his experience overlooking a woman s emotional breakdown. Material to understanding the
works Goblin Market and The Thorn is recognizing the common underlying themes of sex and gender
and how these themes affect perspective in both poems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So another situation is created in which the fallen woman must rely upon her sister to provide strength
and health through self sacrifice until the addiction can be overcome. Also reinforced are Rossetti s
warnings to her reader that men are dangerous, and that women serve as the only strength for one
another.
The ideas of feminism and oppression also determine Rossetti s point of view throughout Goblin
Market. The first and most present throughout is the perspective of Lizzie. She is portrayed as the
wiser more mature sister. Lizzie is standing outside of the oppressive situations of first, Jeannie and
most importantly, her sister Laura. Both troublesome situations are caused by the Goblin men, and
Lizzie can somehow see straight through their evil ways. Lizzie comes to Laura s rescue with bravery
and diligence just in time to save her sister from the ultimate doom of the illness : She brings the fiery
antidote, and she is the fiery antidote, and ...she brings back the forbidden fruit without tasting it
herself, quotes Mermin (112.) Both Lizzie s maturity and Laura s childishness are indicated by the
strength they have against the temptation of the forbidden fruit.
Laura represents the younger sister, who is naïve and less wise to the ways of the evil Goblin men and
the male dominated world. She relies heavily on her older sister to save her from the personal
consequences of the Goblin

Antimicrobial Infection Paper
Effective treatment of infections depends on selecting the source, site, complete medical history, also,
conduct a physical assessment to identify the signs and symptoms consistent with the current
infection. Other factors include patient s age, weight, present health condition and the severity of the
infection should be put into consideration (Arcangelo Peterson, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to
describe the categories of antimicrobial agents, also, description of the differences between viral and
bacterial infections will be reviewed. In addition, explain why proper identification of viral and
bacterial infections is the key to selecting the proper antimicrobial agent. Categories of Antimicrobial

Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis
Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading Australian artist
through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist renderings of Australian scene
to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks highlight both genres. His work features
humanitarian issues and many themes such as love, loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic
family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters
and painters while his brothers were both artists, one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic
influence helped lead him into becoming an artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His
humanitarian influences and social conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka.
Boyd was exposed to these writers by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at
Melbourne night classes, which Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. After this time
his talent was nurtured by his grandfather who was a landscape artist. ... Show more content on

His work then moved into a distinct period of depictions of fanciful characters in urban settings after
moving to the inner city where he was influenced by his contact with European refugees. After this he
was conscripted where he did not enter active duty but did create expressionistic wartime artworks.
these artworks were considered powerful and painful images of the outcast as they pictured those not
fit for service and the crippled. An example of this is Cripple in smoke from factory chimney. This
artwork pictures a crippled person created out of the smoke from a nearby chimney. After the war

The Application of Erik Erikson s Theories Essay
Erik Erikson was a researcher of the Psychodynamic perspective who lived through the years 1902 to
1994. He developed a theory that dealt with the stages of human development and was referred to as a
Neo Freudian. A Neo Freudian are those who have revised Sigmund Freud s theory (Massey, 1986).
His theory argued that both society and culture challenge and shape us (Feldman, 2011). Erik Erikson
s theory of psychological development does not specify specific ages, so the age categories can only
be guessed upon. It is my personal thought that this was a smart move due to different age milestones
for different cultures. The essay titled Erik Erikson: Ages, stages, and stories argues that the stages are
organized into a system of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the individual s needs are not met in this stage the individual will most likely develop a mistrust that
will hamper relationship in the future. The relationship between parent and caregiver is vital. It is
during the first months of life that the baby comes to trust or not, to have faith or not. Whether trust
and faith are developed has direct implications for identity formation (Goodwin, 1998) The goal of
this stage is to gain Hope .
Our subject Belinda was born prematurely on May 23, 1990. During the early part of life the subject
was very sickly as an infant. This did not seem to effect Belinda s formation of Trust. According to the
subject s mother, Patricia Hickman, Belinda was a very trusting and happy baby, besides being colic.

Early Childhood: Autonomy v. Shame.
Early Childhood is roughly from 18 months to 3 years. During early childhood, the second stage of
Erikson s theory manifests; this stage is called Autonomy v. Shame. In this stage, the psycho social
theme of autonomy shame and doubt is manifested during toddlerhood and leads to self will or will
power. (Ginsburg, 1992) If all the needs of the individual are met at this stage they develop a feeling
of self control and power over themselves. If the individual s needs are not met in this stage they tend
to develop feelings of shame and doubt in themselves. If individuals

Hebrew Wisdom on Diligence and Laziness There is a great deal of Hebrew wisdom in the Bible in
regards to the subjects of diligence and laziness. Throughout the book of Proverbs the words of lazy
and diligence can be found in many different forms. Sluggish, sluggard, and idle describe laziness.
The word diligence can also be considered as, thorough, attentive, and persistence. Each of these
words, found in the Bible, can reference diligence, and laziness within Hebrew Wisdom in many
cases.

A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies (Proverbs 14:24 25). Being a diligent
man does not mean to hoard what the Lord has given you, but to share the knowledge and wisdom of
God with all he comes in contact with. Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be
like him (Proverbs 26:4). This is a warning to those who walk with the Lord in their hearts. Do not
answer a fool in a foolish manner; answer them with the wisdom that God has given you. Share the
wisdom of God so they might change their ways.
The Bible paints us the picture of being diligent as one of being thorough, persistent and works hard.
They keep the ways of the Lord in their heart. Those of folly lack the sense to know the difference in
what they are doing is not the ways of the Lord. As for those that are speaking of as lazy, they are lost
and doomed to a life of strife, hardship, and ultimately final judgment to the fiery depths. Only the
wisdom of a diligent man can help save those of folly and lazy, and guide them toward God.

How To Read Literature Like A Professor Analysis
In the novel How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, the value in reading
William Shakespeare s works is displayed. Shakespeare s works enables readers to help understand
literature and pick up references in modern day entertainment. For example, Foster states [William
Shakespeare is] everywhere, in every form you can think of. And he s never the same: every age and
every writer reinvents its own Shakespeare (30). This statement depicts that Shakespeare s legacy
lives on to today and even though he is dead, he continues to impact lives today. All authors create
their own form of Shakespeare and if you know Shakespeare, it ll make understanding literature so
much easier. This is because authors based their works off of

What Role Did British Colonisation Play On Developing...
: What role did British colonisation play in developing Indian cricket? The Imperial Officers of the
British East End Trading Company introduced cricket to India through colonisation in the 18th
century. The British considered cricket to be more than just a sport. They regarded it as a gentlemen s
game that embodied key values of English Victorian Society, such as, sportsmanship, strength, good
temperament and polite conversation. The British, therefore, had ulterior motives for introducing
cricket into India. That is, cricket became a symbol of racial and social superiority and was used by
the British Imperial Officers as a tool to spread civilised values to the uncivilised Indians. Initially
cricket was only introduced to Indian aristocracy so they could be regarded as racial equals to the
British. However, some of the richest and most ambitious men from the Parsi and Hindu business
communities in Bombay, and princely rulers elsewhere in India, also wanted to have the same prestige
that the British attached to the game of cricket, so they taught themselves by watching the British play
cricket (Bagehot, 2014). Cricket, therefore spread throughout India and became a game of the Indian
elite . The first cricket club was founded in 1792 in Calcutta. However, the Calcutta Cricket Club was
restricted to European members only (ESPN Sports Media, 2014). Five years later, Bombay hosted its
first cricket match and it was here that Indians first began to play

Analysis Of The Second Sex By Simone Beauvoir
Another thing that womanhood or motherhood encapsulates in this novel is the choice to choose
between staying in a polygamous marriage or walk out, without being seen as weak or revolting.
Ramatoulaye is portrayed as an example of individual identity and choice. She chooses to marry
Modou against her family s wishes (Letter 16); And when confronted with the same dilemma as her
friend Aissatou a polygamous husband, she chooses a different path she looks inward, cut her loses

years of marriage and twelve children, putting herself on the dating scene would be a waste of time.
She knows according to the woman in Simone Beauvoir s book, The Second Sex, her flesh is no

the mirror. My eyes took in the mirror s eloquence. I had lost my slim figure, as well as ease and
quickness of movement...I could not delude myself: youth was deserting my body (Letter 41). I see
the internalized patriarchal value that a woman needs a man to survive in this portion of the letter. If
remarriage is not the priority of an abandoned woman, the society has no right to force her to, or
berates her for choosing to stay single.

Analysis Of The Article The New ( Old ) Case For The...
Introduction An article written by Gregory Wolcott, in the Journal of Business Ethics in 2015, portrays
an argument for business ethics centered on the approach that business processes may represent a
calling or natural ability to contribute to an overall goodness, or good.
Summary
The article The New (Old) Case for the Ethics of Business, describes Wolcott s views on how business
students are educated in the belief that business professionals must acquire additional ethical
requirements in their field. Students are also taught the field of business may be considered my some,
if not most, as untrustworthy. Wolcott provides a debatable justification on the intrinsic worth of
business vocations (Wolcott, 2014, p. 128). He defends the attempts of those that wish to build up the
happiness or good fortune of others, along with the products or goods that are already provided. He
states how the ethics of business bank on more important beliefs, and that a person s calling may or
may not always help promote the happiness of others. Wolcott s article speaks mostly to students,
colleagues, and those in business whose main goals in business are for monetary profit making
reasons. His goal is to enhance their knowledge of principle based business practices for the good of
all rather just for profit for business sake. He does not judge businesses that choose to forego success
when it is morally crucial to do so. Also, he states he is not against businesses that help

Essay On Juvenile And Juvenile Justice System
Throughout the 18th century, juveniles and adults were subject to the same criminal justice system.
Children and adolescents were regarded as adults and treated as such in court and correction. In the
19th century, a reform took place which aimed at addressing the issue of juveniles being incarcerated
in adult jails. A new perception of juveniles surfaced. They were no longer regarded as adults, but
instead as persons who have not yet reached adult cognitive and moral development. This new
perception has led reformers to create a new system, one that focuses on child and adolescent
offenders exclusively and that viewed adolescents and children as more open to rehabilitation. The
first juvenile court was established in 1899 in Cook County, Illinois. It shifted the focus away from
punishment and instead aimed at identifying the underlying causes of the delinquent behavior ... Show

How Does Sediment Build Up Affect The Heater
DRAINING NOW PREVENTS FUTURE PROBLEMS Draining your hot water heater is just as
important as changing oil in your car or keeping the correct air pressure in your tires. Properly
maintaining your hot water heater can prevent many problems in the future. Why is draining the water
so important? Regardless of where you live, your water has minerals in it, including calcium
carbonate. The mineral content in water will vary from one place to another, and the concentration
level varies as well. As the water enters the hot water heater, the heat causes the minerals to precipitate
out from the water causing the sediment to settle in the bottom of the tank. This settling builds up over
time and causes serious problems. How does sediment buildup affect the heater? ... Show more

During the Egyptian campaign, Napoleon s army suffered from what was probably infectious
jaundice. Infectious jaundice occurred among troops during the American Civil War.It was also
reported among troops at Gallipoli and other battles of World War I, where the sodden conditions of
trench warfare favored infection. Terms used in early 20th century descriptions of leptospirosis
include the pseudo dengue of Java, seven day fever, autumn fever, Akiyama disease, and marsh or
swamp fever. L icterohaemorrhagieae was identified as the causative agent in Pre World War II
outbreaks in Japan, which were characterized by jaundice and a high mortality rate.
In October 2010 British rower Andy Holmes died after contracting Weil s disease.
Causes
Leptospirosis is caused by a spirochaete bacterium called Leptospira spp. that has at least 5 serovars of

Taking a Look at the Internet of Things (IoT)
1. INTRODUCTION
Recently, the concept of the Internet as a set of connected computer devices is changed to a set of
connected surrounding things of human s living space, such as home appliances, machines,
transportation, business storage, and goods etc. The number of things in the living space is larger than
the number of world population. Research is going on how to make these things to communicate with
each other like computer devices communicate through Internet. The communication among these
things is referred as Internet of Things (IoT). Till now, there is no specific definition or standard
architecture of IoT. Some researchers define the IoT as a new model that contains all of wireless
communication technologies such as wireless sensor networks, mobile networks, and actuators. Each
element of IoT is called a thing and should have a unique address. Things communicate using the
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and work in harmony to reach a common goal. In
addition, the IoT should contain a strategy to determine its users and their privileges and restrictions.
Smart connectivity with existing networks and context aware computation using network resources is
an indispensable part of IoT. With the growing presence of WiFi and 4G LTE wireless Inter net access,
the evolution towards ubiquitous information and communication networks is already evident.
However, for the Internet of Things vision to successfully emerge, the computing paradigm will need

like part of him is gone and left behind in the War. In Facing It Komunyakaa memories from the War
are coming to him and the memories are affecting his life style in the sense of haunting him/ hurting
him with the use of imagery, metaphors, similes and personifications throughout the poem. To begin,
in the poem there is a lot of use of imagery, as the speaker wants the readers to see the same things as
him rather than told. Komunyakaa is visiting the Vietnam Veteran s Memorial, where the names are
engraved of those soldiers that have passed away, or were never found as they have been missing
during the Vietnam War. The granite where the names are on is black. Komunyakaa himself, is an
African American so he see s that his face is disappearing, My black face fades,/ hiding inside the
black granite (1 2). He is experiencing a loss of identity, for the fact that there is no contrast between
his face and the black granite because he see s that he blends in. Another image is that Yusef
Komunyakaa had in mind that he will not cry or be emotional as he is acknowledging the black
granite, but he ends up crying I said I wouldn t,/ dammit: No tears (3 4). He saw himself as a strong

Thesis Statement On Job Satisfaction
Pearson and Seiler (1983) found in their research on 336 faculty members from 24 universities in
Unites States, predictors for job satisfaction were tenure, teaching load, gender, institution type as in
private or public, and age. Salary and ranking on the other hand surprising did not play a big role in
influencing perceived job satisfaction. In comparison, it was found that those in professional colleges
reported higher job satisfaction than those in general college. Those who reported higher job
satisfaction were those with higher salaries, lower teaching loads, and speedier promotion rate. The

According to Olsen, work stress or job related stress were related to time management conflicts,
compensation issues such as salary, feedback and job security. The level of job stress will play a role
in determining job satisfaction level as suggested by the research done by Usman and colleagues in
Punjab in 2011. The researchers posited that the higher work stress experienced by the faculty
members, the lower will be their satisfaction with their job. High job stress will also lead to lower
organizational commitment (Usman, Ahmed, Ahmed, Akbar, 2011). The researchers suggested that by
minimizing role ambiguity, it will directly reduce the role stress experience by the teaching members
and indirectly lower job stress as a whole. Thompson and Dey (1998) found that sources of stress for
African American college and university faculty were time constraints, promotion concerns, and
overall stress. Thompson and Dey also found that stress regardless of sources negatively affecting job
satisfaction. The most prominent evidence in the researchers finding was the negative effect of stress
in regarding of promotion towards the level of job satisfaction. In fact the researchers found that the
more stress the respondents were about promotion, the least satisfied they were about aspects such as

Retail Location Strategies
Retail Location Strategies
Learning the New Rules for Site Selection Will Keep You Ahead of the Game.
Nationwide, the retail sector enjoyed robust growth during the first half of the decade, due in great
part to the continued expansion of big boxes. The excitement, however, is dying down, as several
category killer retailers experience slowing sales. The once zealous players are becoming more
cautious, and once again the rules of the game are changing for developers and commercial brokers.
New Development Drivers
Traditionally, retail centers have been defined as either regional, community, or neighborhood, with
standard tenants for each of these categories. Recently, though, the lines have blurred, as discount

Many of the nation s retailers are discovering the substantial dollar volumes that are largely untapped
in the major urban markets. Obsolescent industrial buildings in A locations are making way for new
supermarkets, Wal Marts, and Home Depots across the country. In fact, Wal Mart is considering
obsolescence in its new prototype by designing stores that can be converted into multifamily housing
in the future. Communities with enterprise zones and other economic incentives are getting a second
chance as retailers rediscover downtown in more affluent markets. A shining example is the Circle
Centre redevelopment in Indianapolis.
B locations, or those neighborhood centers once anchored by supermarkets, are getting a breath of
new life from Rite Aid, Walgreens, and CVS as consumers yearn for service and convenience.
In addition, the surviving supermarkets and large discount department stores are anchoring regional
malls. K mart now focuses on its superstore concept in metropolitan locations, with Wal Mart
continuing to identify gaps in suburban markets. There are fewer active big box players; therefore,
opportunities for regional mall locations, as they become repositioned, will become more prevalent.

The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed
Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of
hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality
where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an
issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Lee
statue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of
White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all
throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate
slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began
the American Civil War and endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union
won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states
honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the
Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and
learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of
Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed
from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in
remembering our infamous racial past.
To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is
given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for
a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space
for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning
of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a man who believed
and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own, infamously named the
Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality and discrimination

Positive psychology is a relatively new, yet rapidly expanding field of study. It is the study of the
positive facets of humanity focused heavily around well being and happiness. Through the studies of

The essence of gratitude is acknowledging and appreciating the good in your life and doing so
surfaces endless benefits that contribute to well being. While this hypothesis seems rather indisputable
there is evidence and research to further convince the sceptics. Emmons and McCullough garnered
their conclusions through an experiment in which different groups documented their lives in different
manners. Through daily and weekly journals the participants were asked to record negative
occurrences, neutral events, or things they were grateful for respectively. The findings were
conclusive; the group that kept tabs on things they were grateful for consistently reported a greater
sense of well being (Sansone and Sansone, 18 22). The methods Emmons and McCullough used to
conduct this experiment were very professional and free of any bias. By tailoring the experiment to
allow for as much participant control as possible there is little room for influence on their part.
Additional research from Froh and Sefick in partnership with Emmons echoes these sentiments. The
trio conducted a study in which 221 adolescents were tracked and those who routinely counted their
blessings experienced enhanced life satisfaction and overall well being. (Froh, J., Sefick, W. J.,

Health is everything 1 is what CVS believes in. Being a pharmacy company under control of CVS

The idea is brilliant, but the execution is not very well planning. For instance, I am a non smoker and a

selling tobacco products. For many of them, going to a different convenience stores to grab a pack of

The issue is whether or not Donald acted lawfully in his actions of shooting the hijackers. Donald did

Welfare Spending During The United States
Welfare spending in the United States of America has been realizing negative effects on the economic
standing of American society as a whole, more specifically in terms of long term growth in poverty
rates and high levels of unemployment.
As of the report for fiscal year 2011, the total funds spent for the federal welfare programs amounted
to roughly $ 1.03 trillion. . . This excludes entitlement programs to which people contribute (e.g.
Social Security and Medicare) , according to Sessions, J. (2011, p.1). SS expenditures in 2011 was
$725 billion while for Medicare, it amounted to $ 480 billion. The analytical findings of Brady, D.(
2009, p.81) stated that As countries devote a larger share of their economy to welfare, poverty declines
steeply. This happened to Scandinavia, Finland, and Sweden, and European continental countries like
Netherlands and Belgium. USA was identified to have high poverty and low welfare expenses. He also
made clear that poverty is not necessarily increased by higher welfare generosity.(p.84) and further
says that it benefits all rather than just the elderly or men (p.87). The 5 features of welfare state were
historically proven to reduce poverty through greater generosity with (1) social welfare expenditures,
(2) expenditures for public health, (3) social security, (4) government expenditures, and (5)
decommodification (p.91). Brady, D. (p.92) also contends that public employment is less effective

Country Living and Better Homes and Gardens have a small town, country style. The articles and

The Theory Of The Existence Of A God
Theodicy of God
Men always wonder about their own existence. They ask questions that hinted an existence of a God.
Like the common questions that was probably asked by all men; who created me? , what am I? , who
am I? These questions lead to the topics on how Plato and Aristotle came up with their different
theories that supports the idea of the existence of a God. The problem here is that we cannot know the
existence of a God if there really is a God by just thinking by ourselves because we may have the
mind to think but we may also not have the capacity to think like Plato and Aristotle from which they
are the main philosophers that the Medieval philosophers like Saint Bonaventure based their work not
just by simply agreeing on the works of Aristotle or Plato but by commenting on their works and
continuing or extending what their works are. The theory of forms by Plato indicates that there is a
Primary Being that can be perceive through the use of the mind wherein reason is the main instrument
being used in order to see what you cannot perceive using your external senses. The external sense
cognition by Aristotle from which uses the five senses of a human person which are the sight, touch,
smell, hearing, and taste. The world that we perceive by the use of our external senses make us believe
that there is a God that created all that we see, smell, touch, hear, and taste. I propose to assimilate

Angelman Syndrome and Prader-Willi Syndrome Essay
Angelman Syndrome Prader Willi Syndrome
Introduction
Prader Willi and Angelman Syndrome are two genetic disorders with vastly differing phenotypes
linked by missing genetic imprints on the 15th chromosome s q arm between regions 11 and 13 .
While both orders result in mental deficits, their symptoms are otherwise segregated from the other in
their entirety. The differences in the disorders are the result of differing DNA methylation patterns
present in maternally and paternally inherited DNA. If the deletion occurs in the mother s DNA, then
Prader Willi Syndrome appears. When the deletion occurs in the father s DNA, Angelman Syndrome
is the result.

The Nature of the Disease Angelman syndrome is thought to be caused mainly by the deletion of the
maternally inherited copy of UEB3A. A small number of cases are also caused by failures in
imprinting or, very rarely, monosomy 15 in the egg and disomy 15 in the sperm. The profound mental
effects are caused by this gene due to the fact that, while UEB3A s protein is active in various bodily
tissues, only the mother s copy of the gene is active in the brain. The phenotype of Angelman
Syndrome is not overt enough to be detected unless it is being specifically looked for. EEG scans are
capable of detecting the disease at early ages, before it is otherwise possible to detect.
Prader Willi
Prader Willi is caused by either deletions, failure in imprinting, or monosomy/disomy 15 from the
father s side. The genes involved are known to include, but are not known to be limited to SNRPN and
NDN. NDN odes for the protein Necdin, which, in rodents, interacts with neurotrophin receptors in a
way that is not completely understood to promote normal cognitive development. SNRPN codes for
several products, including small nucleolar RNAs, a splicing factor involved in RNA processing, and a
polypeptide known as SNURF. The precise role of this gene is unknown.

Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced
and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her
once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a
silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two
princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing
student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a
deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the
course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that
need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore
with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I
have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to
accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the
driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen.

Social Construction Of Childhood
Childhood, in the 21st century, has become the center of attention because of the highly influential
book Centuries of Childhood published in the year 1960. In the book, Aries (1960) argued that the
concept has been created by the modern history and further indicated that children were considered as
mini adults before the 17th century. According to Dr. Montgomery (2013), the childhood in 1970s and
80s have enormously transformed in terms of their treatment and their lives. Moreover, Dr.
Montgomery revealed the contemporary and historical differences in the terms childhood. For
instance, children in the 21st century have fewer responsibilities and their lives are characterized by
school, play, consumption and family instead of paid labor, work, production and public life. This
implies that the standards of childhood differ on the basis of economic setting and traditions of the
societies. The purpose of this assignment is to describe the changes in childhood over the years, while
determining the role of difference in views and perspectives on childhood in creating different

This does not mean that the children were despised, neglected or forsaken; but what was meant here
was that the concept of childhood is based on social construction. Social construction, in simpler
words, is a theoretical perspective of exploring the negotiation of reality in everyday life, which is
done through the interaction of the people and discourses (James James, 2008). Moreover, James and

A Report On New Zealand Essay
Background Overview New Zealand is an island country with a population of 4.4 million. Auckland is
the country s largest city with a population of 1.4 million people. It is one of the fastest growing cities
in Asia Pacific, the on going population growth in the region will continuously generate economic
growth over the short /medium term. Statistics suggest that Auckland requires between 9000 and
11000 new dwellings every year to meet the latent demand due to population growth. Auckland has a
particularly significant issue on housing affordability because land supply is tightly confined by a
strict urban/rural boundary, development rules and consents are restrictive, and immigrants (inward

price inflation have been reflective of a demand supply imbalance. 1.Introduction Auckland is New

Design And Creation Of Buildings
Architecture is considered to be the design and creation of buildings that reflects their culture,
religion, environment and technology used in its time period. The mastermind behind any type of
architecture is the architect itself. Two well known and respected architects in modern history are
Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Both known for their amazing architectural
thoughts, and the inspirations that affected many other architects. Both, Wright and Rohe, created new
schools of design for their abilities which brought about techniques that are still used today. These
architects were both involved in exploring the relationships of spatial distribution, form and function,
materials used, reflecting their current time through their design, and creating buildings and houses
that were both artistically beautiful as well as beneficial. Both of these architects have many common
attributes to each other s designs as well as ideas, but also the many differences that set apart these
architects as few of the many renowned architects in modern history.
Frank Lloyd Wright is an American architect who designed many houses and inspired the work of
hundreds of scholars.4 Wright believed in designing structures that were in synchronization with
humanity and its environment; a philosophy he called organic architecture .1 He read a broad array of
architecture books and thought that architecture had been pushed too much into modernization.4 He

the Divine Comedy in the early 1300s in his early 30s. In the beginning of the book Dante mentions
being midway through his life. Now, Dante is a religious man, and has read the entire Bible. In the
book of Psalms within the Bible, God says that a man s life is three score and a decade, or seventy
years. Using this information, we can gather that Dante is 35 years old at the start of Inferno.

(as they are dead already, they survive this process) or crushes them under his massive weight.
As mentioned earlier, each circle holds sinners that are considered worse than others. In this case, that
means that God weighs poor habits as worse than Lust. Many people do not share this opinion, and by
this time, few people consider Gluttony a sin at all. The circle of Lust is higher than the circle of
Gluttony, which would give the impression that Gluttony is worse than Lust. Both sides can be argued,
however.
Seeing Lust as Gluttony makes sense, as, at first glance, it would seem that Lust would take over
someone s life much easier than bad habits. However, it is also understandable to

Kant s Duty To Become A Dishonest
Looking at this movie from Kant s viewpoint, We can say Campbell is morally wrong, by allowing
himself to become a spy, he betray his duty for his country. Honesty if I remember is one of the
categorical imperatives which needs to be followed, at situations. By being a spy, Campbell
committed a dishonest act to his country to which he has a duty to protect. It must be noted that
Campbell was indifferent to the views of the Nazis and the destruction and oppression of lives that
was causing. Of course if we look at it in a different light he could have agreed to become a spy since
he shared the plight of the subjugation of the Jews, I think Kant would have viewed his situation as to
have no moral value. As Ackrill out it His being a spy is also

Germany was the last European nation to ban the insider...
Germany was the last European nation to ban the insider trading which were the consequences of the
EC directive and subsequent infringement action for failure of non compliance. Hence Germany
passed Promotion Act.
The scope of the insider trading prohibition under the Promotion Act is set forth in the Act s
definitions of three key concepts: (1) the insider, (2) insider information, and (3) insider transactions.
The Insider according to German law classifies into two (1) Primary (2) Secondary. Primary is an
person/persons who by virtue of their relationship with the corporation have access to vital and
strategic information which are confidential in nature and are not suppose to disclose to the public.
Section 13 of the said act gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Section 12 of the German Insider Trading Law provides a fairly complex, and arguably cumbersome,
definition of insider securities, the insider trading prohibition basically extends to all securities traded
on an exchange or through a transaction otherwise covered by the Insider Trading Law, this insider
securities includes stocks, shares, stock options, debt instrument, it even goes on to clarify that
Derivatives to fall within the purview of the definition in order to stop circumvention of the law.
Section 14 of the act defines the prohibition of insider dealing; the prohibition as said earlier
distinguishes into two primary and secondary. The object of this section is to prohibit the person from
utilizing, recommending and passing the vital information to the third party.
The German law specifies that the one of the method of preventing the insider trading are the statutory
publication requirement for the listed company. This comprises the ad hoc disclosure requirement and
the requirement to publish changes in major holdings of voting rights.
As far as punishment is concerned, if the person fails to comply with the regulation he would end up
in prison for five years or imposition of fines.
On 1 July 2002 the WpHG was amended and a new provision concerning the disclosure of dealing by
corporate insiders was introduced (directors dealings). Section 15a of the WpHG stipulates that

What Extent Was Andrew Carnegie A Robber Baron Or A...
Were these powerful industrialists trying to get rich and powerful no matter what strain it puts on their
workers and competitors? Or were they an example of the American dream, an industry leader who
improved the nation and helped his people? Industrialists like Andrew Carnegie and John D.
Rockefeller were sometimes criticized and said to be Robber Barons. However, they were not, both
men increased the economy drastically, created millions of jobs for Americans, and donated large
amounts of money to charities like The Carnegie Institution and various Philanthropic causes. Andrew
Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were Captains of Industry, not Robber Barons.

Rockefeller was a great Captain Of Industry; he reshaped and converted the oil industry and became a
philanthropist. Rockefeller grew up in an above average home with his Mother and Father. After being
graduated from High School in 1855, the family sent him to a Cleveland Business School. (The New
Tycoons: John D. Rockefeller) Rockefeller s parent s support as a young man was a great contribution
to his success. Many people argue that Rockefeller didn t deserve his great accomplishments, but just
as many other successful people; he too worked very hard for his achievements. Young John
Rockefeller entered the workforce on the bottom rung of the ladder as a clerk in a Cleveland shipping
firm (The New Tycoons; John D. Rockefeller). Rockefeller went from being a clerk in a small firm to
building up one of the greatest and largest industries in the U.S. As products such as automobiles were
becoming more popular, the demand for oil grew. John D. Rockefeller was also known for being a
Philanthropist, Rockefeller wrote one of his partners, let the good work go on. We must ever
remember we are refining oil for the poor man and he must have it cheap and good (Folsom, John D.
Rockefeller and the Oil Industry) Rockefeller knew that there was a need for oil, he gave the best oil
he could at the lowest price, his customers were his main priority and they were in his best interest.

Ghost Singer By Anna Lee Walters
Ghost Singer by Anna Lee Walters is a tale of the historical injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples
and the modern consequences of those injustices. Although it is clear that the spirit people in the novel
serve as the most outwardly fearsome people in the novel, it is important to take into account the
overall systemic injustices that the characters of Native American heritage suffer under throughout the
histories presented in the novel. Walters addresses fearsomeness and sympathetic characters through
the use of dangerous characters and situations presented directly and indirectly to the characters. The
fearsomeness of the characters and the sympathy felt for the characters is dependent upon the
perspectives of the readers since these fearsome figures are a cultural construct and a projection of that
cultures fears (Cohen 1). The fearsome figures in the novels are presented to initially be the spirits
haunting the artifacts, but upon closer examination the larger more entrenched issue of outdated
models of thought in relation to Indigenous peoples appear to be the most important fearsome figure.
The protagonist of the novel is dependent upon the views taken, and the fearsome figures that the
historians, such as David Evans, and characters are attempting aid the spirits, such as George
Daylight. Walters addresses the fearsome nature of a system dependent on examining and judging
indigenous societies based on white values, which is problematic since both cultures do not

  • 2. The Long Profile Of A River Introduction In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order to do this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river; the upper course, the middle course, and the lower course. The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is a river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The source of the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition. The sites which I will be investigating on are: Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109 Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006 Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124 The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of the river and its characteristics. The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course to the lower course. Volunteering here was very rewarding as I was able to provide care for cats and dogs who may never get adopted. My responsibilities consisted of cleaning the cats kennels and making them presentable to any potential adopters. This consisted of wiping the outside of the kennels and replacing the cat litter boxes so the cats would have a clean place to use. I also cleaned the inside of the kennels and provided them with water and food. Through this process I began meeting the cats as they would approach me to see what was going on. Such as climbing structures, scratching post or a place to run (2/26/17). In an attempt to meet the cat s telos I got to spend time grooming and socializing the animals in an effort to make them more sociable which would make them more adoptable. I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the grass underneath their paws. While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they depend a lot on the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact amount of people that will help perform the necessary duties but they lack the extra help that can help with taking the dogs out or grooming the cats. For this reason, they depend greatly on the community to go in and volunteer. Animal shelters and the community The Bakersfield SPCA is one of the smallest shelters within Bakersfield. They depend greatly on the community to help sponsor animals. This means that the community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which include food, bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the community are cats that are older or have been at the shelter longer than the rest. This is a form of trying to save as many animals as possible by defining the animal as a shelter mascot (3/28/2017). Which will give those animals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market and William Wordsworth s The Thorn On the surface, the poems Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti and The Thorn by William Wordsworth appear to be very different literary works. Goblin Market was written by a young woman in the Victorian period about two sisters who develop a special bond through the rescue of one sister by the other. The Thorn was written by the Romantic poet William Wordsworth about a middle aged man and his experience overlooking a woman s emotional breakdown. So another situation is created in which the fallen woman must rely upon her sister to provide strength and health through self sacrifice until the addiction can be overcome. Also reinforced are Rossetti s warnings to her reader that men are dangerous, and that women serve as the only strength for one another. The ideas of feminism and oppression also determine Rossetti s point of view throughout Goblin Market. The first and most present throughout is the perspective of Lizzie. She is portrayed as the wiser more mature sister. Lizzie is standing outside of the oppressive situations of first, Jeannie and most importantly, her sister Laura. Both troublesome situations are caused by the Goblin men, and Lizzie can somehow see straight through their evil ways. Lizzie comes to Laura s rescue with bravery and diligence just in time to save her sister from the ultimate doom of the illness : She brings the fiery antidote, and she is the fiery antidote, and ...she brings back the forbidden fruit without tasting it herself, quotes Mermin (112.) Both Lizzie s maturity and Laura s childishness are indicated by the strength they have against the temptation of the forbidden fruit. • 7. Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading Australian artist through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist renderings of Australian scene to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks highlight both genres. His work features humanitarian issues and many themes such as love, loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters and painters while his brothers were both artists, one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic influence helped lead him into becoming an artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His humanitarian influences and social conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka. Boyd was exposed to these writers by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at Melbourne night classes, which Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. Whether trust and faith are developed has direct implications for identity formation (Goodwin, 1998) The goal of this stage is to gain Hope . Our subject Belinda was born prematurely on May 23, 1990. During the early part of life the subject was very sickly as an infant. This did not seem to effect Belinda s formation of Trust. The Bible paints us the picture of being diligent as one of being thorough, persistent and works hard. They keep the ways of the Lord in their heart. Those of folly lack the sense to know the difference in what they are doing is not the ways of the Lord. The Imperial Officers of the British East End Trading Company introduced cricket to India through colonisation in the 18th century. The British considered cricket to be more than just a sport. They regarded it as a gentlemen s game that embodied key values of English Victorian Society, such as, sportsmanship, strength, good temperament and polite conversation. The British, therefore, had ulterior motives for introducing cricket into India. That is, cricket became a symbol of racial and social superiority and was used by the British Imperial Officers as a tool to spread civilised values to the uncivilised Indians. Initially cricket was only introduced to Indian aristocracy so they could be regarded as racial equals to the British. However, some of the richest and most ambitious men from the Parsi and Hindu business communities in Bombay, and princely rulers elsewhere in India, also wanted to have the same prestige that the British attached to the game of cricket, so they taught themselves by watching the British play cricket (Bagehot, 2014). Cricket, therefore spread throughout India and became a game of the Indian elite . The first cricket club was founded in 1792 in Calcutta. However, the Calcutta Cricket Club was restricted to European members only (ESPN Sports Media, 2014). Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Lee statue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil War and endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past. To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. Like the common questions that was probably asked by all men; who created me? , what am I? , who am I? These questions lead to the topics on how Plato and Aristotle came up with their different theories that supports the idea of the existence of a God. The problem here is that we cannot know the existence of a God if there really is a God by just thinking by ourselves because we may have the mind to think but we may also not have the capacity to think like Plato and Aristotle from which they are the main philosophers that the Medieval philosophers like Saint Bonaventure based their work not just by simply agreeing on the works of Aristotle or Plato but by commenting on their works and continuing or extending what their works are. The theory of forms by Plato indicates that there is a Primary Being that can be perceive through the use of the mind wherein reason is the main instrument being used in order to see what you cannot perceive using your external senses. The external sense cognition by Aristotle from which uses the five senses of a human person which are the sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste. While both orders result in mental deficits, their symptoms are otherwise segregated from the other in their entirety. The differences in the disorders are the result of differing DNA methylation patterns present in maternally and paternally inherited DNA. The Nature of the Disease Angelman syndrome is thought to be caused mainly by the deletion of the maternally inherited copy of UEB3A. A small number of cases are also caused by failures in imprinting or, very rarely, monosomy 15 in the egg and disomy 15 in the sperm. The profound mental effects are caused by this gene due to the fact that, while UEB3A s protein is active in various bodily tissues, only the mother s copy of the gene is active in the brain. The phenotype of Angelman Syndrome is not overt enough to be detected unless it is being specifically looked for. EEG scans are capable of detecting the disease at early ages, before it is otherwise possible to detect. Prader Willi Prader Willi is caused by either deletions, failure in imprinting, or monosomy/disomy 15 from the father s side. NDN odes for the protein Necdin, which, in rodents, interacts with neurotrophin receptors in a way that is not completely understood to promote normal cognitive development. SNRPN codes for several products, including small nucleolar RNAs, a splicing factor involved in RNA processing, and a polypeptide known as SNURF. The precise role of this gene is unknown. Symptoms. In the book, Aries (1960) argued that the concept has been created by the modern history and further indicated that children were considered as mini adults before the 17th century. According to Dr. Montgomery (2013), the childhood in 1970s and 80s have enormously transformed in terms of their treatment and their lives. Moreover, Dr. Montgomery revealed the contemporary and historical differences in the terms childhood. Auckland is the country s largest city with a population of 1.4 million people. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Asia Pacific, the on going population growth in the region will continuously generate economic growth over the short /medium term. Statistics suggest that Auckland requires between 9000 and 11000 new dwellings every year to meet the latent demand due to population growth. Auckland has a particularly significant issue on housing affordability because land supply is tightly confined by a strict urban/rural boundary, development rules and consents are restrictive, and immigrants (inward and external) are attracted to the jobs and natural amenities in the region. Rapidly rising rates of house price inflation have been reflective of a demand supply imbalance. 1.Introduction Auckland is New Zealand s largest residential property market. There has been a physical shortage of houses, particularly in Auckland. Design And Creation Of Buildings Architecture is considered to be the design and creation of buildings that reflects their culture, religion, environment and technology used in its time period. The mastermind behind any type of architecture is the architect itself. Two well known and respected architects in modern history are Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Both known for their amazing architectural thoughts, and the inspirations that affected many other architects. Both, Wright and Rohe, created new schools of design for their abilities which brought about techniques that are still used today. These architects were both involved in exploring the relationships of spatial distribution, form and function, materials used, reflecting their current time through their design, and creating buildings and houses that were both artistically beautiful as well as beneficial. Both of these architects have many common attributes to each other s designs as well as ideas, but also the many differences that set apart these architects as few of the many renowned architects in modern history. In the beginning of the book Dante mentions being midway through his life. Now, Dante is a religious man, and has read the entire Bible. In the book of Psalms within the Bible, God says that a man s life is three score and a decade, or seventy years. Using this information, we can gather that Dante is 35 years old at the start of Inferno. In the second circle, we have those who were lustful in life. The punishment for these sinners is to be constantly, violently tossed around by a massive storm, which prevents them from getting in the mood. Here we also see the ruins of Hell below the storm, the ruination caused by the coming of Jesus. When he came, it created a massive earthquake in Hell, which destroyed and damaged many parts of it. The third circle houses those who are guilty of Gluttony, or being so focused on habits and focusing on the wrong things in life that they ignored God. These people are forced to live in a very cold, very gross, putrescent slush. They are also constantly hunted by Cerberus, who either eats and digests them (as they are dead already, they survive this process) or crushes them under his massive weight. As mentioned earlier, each circle holds sinners that are considered worse than others. In this case, that means that God weighs poor habits as worse than Lust. Many people do not share this opinion, and by this time, few people consider Gluttony a sin at all. The circle of Lust is higher than the circle of Gluttony, which would give the impression that Gluttony is worse than Lust. Both sides can be argued, however. Although it is clear that the spirit people in the novel serve as the most outwardly fearsome people in the novel, it is important to take into account the overall systemic injustices that the characters of Native American heritage suffer under throughout the histories presented in the novel. Walters addresses fearsomeness and sympathetic characters through the use of dangerous characters and situations presented directly and indirectly to the characters. The fearsomeness of the characters and the sympathy felt for the characters is dependent upon the perspectives of the readers since these fearsome figures are a cultural construct and a projection of that cultures fears (Cohen 1). The fearsome figures in the novels are presented to initially be the spirits haunting the artifacts, but upon closer examination the larger more entrenched issue of outdated models of thought in relation to Indigenous peoples appear to be the most important fearsome figure. The protagonist of the novel is dependent upon the views taken, and the fearsome figures that the historians, such as David Evans, and characters are attempting aid the spirits, such as George Daylight.
