• Creativity simply means being able to come up
with something new. Therefore, creative
thinking is the ability to consider something –
a conflict between employees, a data set, a
group project – in a new way.
• A way to look at and solve problems from a
different perspective, avoiding orthodox
solutions.
• Merging of ideas which have not been merged
before. Basically, connecting things.
Types of Creative Thinking
• Used for construction
of walls, floors etc.
• Can be used as a
weapon
• Can be used as
weight
• Can be used to build
a pathway.
• Can be used as
hairbands
• Hold multiple objects
together
• Can be used as an
alternative food clip
• Make some
accessories.
• Play may be conceptualized as a process involving
the positive affects of interest, enjoyment, and
surprise. Creativity appears to be more of a
descriptive attribute characterizing the primary
affect processes of play.
• Play fosters creativity. Play allows individual to
deliver the creativity in a certain way. It allows
person to discover why and how things are done
within a certain framework or finding new,
different solutions to it.
Children have a lot of ideas when they play. This is only because
they are not afraid of the judgment + they lack knowledge of
social norms
Picasso said “Every child is an artist, the only
problem is how to keep that artist alive when
you grow up!”
How to be playful?
Do something you did as a child that
you don’t do anymore!
Motivation
Extrinsic Intrinsic
Money, Reward,
Social Status,
Promotion
More External
Reinforcement is
needed overtime to
provoke same results.
This makes you less
creative because you
are dependent on
external factors
Curiosity, Interests,
Pleasure, Competence
You do the activity
because it’s either
internally rewarding or
it’s fun, enjoyable, and
satisfying. Creativity
flourishes when we are
motivated by the
personal enjoyment of
the work itself.
Myth: Creativity cannot be learned or exercised.
Truth: Creativity is learned and can be exercised, like every other muscle
in your body
Myth: Creativity is linked only with arts. Some people have a creative
gene and some don’t.
Truth: Creativity isn’t a gift bestowed upon the fortunate few. Everyone is
capable of contributing a good idea.

Myth: Right brain thinkers tend to
be more creative.
Truth: A equal balance of both
right brain and left brain leads to
creative thinking. Creative Thinking
needs a holistic approach.

Editor's Notes

  • #5 What ideas pop in your mind when you hear the term Brick? Another word Rubber band!
  • #10 Creativity requires efforts to overcome the constraints that gets it killed. Much of what we do in terms of creativity is affected by our own motivation.
  • #11 It can be affected by your practices, how you expose yourself to old ideas,  trigger the combination of those ideas into new ones, and relax to let it happen.  A skill like drawing depends on the brain’s left side to depict & recognize symbolic imagery. The right side helps with elaboration, imagination and drawing from life.
