1. Gibraltar goes down to Crusaders
by five runs in a last over thriller
JOHN HAZELL’S brilliant
hundred went in vain after Tho-
mas Tobin defended 12 runs in the
last over by giving away 7 runs
and taking 2 wickets.
John Hazell remained un-
beaten on 123 off 91 balls which in-
cluded 17 fours and 2 sixes after he
failed to get the strike in the last
over. Chasing 262 runs Gibraltar
lost 2 wickets in the first 10 overs
for 57 runs. The third wicket part-
nership of 147 runs between Guy
Dumas 54 and John Hazell 123*
brought Gibraltar back in the
game. It looked like Gibraltar
were cruising towards the target
but once Guy Dumas was dis-
missed, Thomas Tobin ripped
through Gibraltar innings by tak-
ing 5 wickets for 55 runs. Gibraltar
lost 6 wickets for 52 runs in the
process falling short by 5 runs in
the end.
Earlier in the day the weather
played an important role for Cru-
saders as bowling first on a wet
wicket was difficult for Gibraltar.
The bowlers couldn’t grip the ball
and the fielders couldn’t hold onto
the catches as Crusaders batsmen
made the best use of it by putting
up a scintillating 166 runs for the
first wicket after Nasir Dar retired
out after scoring 112. Nasir Dar
paced his innings so well with
well timed shots hitting 18 bound-
aries and 2 sixes. He was well sup-
ported by Lee Rickwood who
scored a steady half century with
2 boundaries. Crusaders piled on
runs after the opening pair was
dismissed. Marc Gouws bowled
accurately and his 2 wickets for 22
runs showed his discipline by
bowling the tight off stump line.
Abraham Syam took 2 wickets for
42 runs. Crusaders ended up on
262-7 off 35 overs.
Crusaders 262-7( Nasir Dar
112*, Lee Rickwood 50, Marc
Gouws 2-22, Abraham Syam 2-42)
