Pinatar Pirates win T20 series at Cártama Oval
THE highly anticipated T-20
series was played at Cartama
Oval on March 25 and 26 as two
home teams took on the visting
Pinatar Pirates.
There was a lot of excitement
as players were set to face
Spain’s national team cricketer
Ravi Panchal who is regarded as
one of the best bowlers in the
country
.
The matches were played
within the spirit of the game
and the umpires made some ex-
cellent decisions on the field.
Matches were officiated by two
of the best umpires, Bill Gaynor
and Roger. A huge thanks to
both.
Costa del Sol Crusaders
Vs Pinatar Pirates
1st T-20
Cricket was arguably at its best
on March 25 at Cartama as the
Pirates won the toss and elected
to bowl first. Costa Crusaders
opening batsmen were in good
form and both opening batsmen
Nasir Dar (53 runs) and Sam
Boden (38 runs) scored briskly
with a partnership of 115 runs
for the first wicket.
Chris Batten took over from
where the openers left off and
scored a quick fire 34. Crusaders
scored 179-4 off 20 overs. Paul
Hennessey was pick of the
bowlers with 2-20.
Pirates had to chase a stiff
target with 9 runs per over. They
started poorly and lost wickets
at regular intervals as batsmen
succumbed to the pressure and
only one batsman reached
double figures. Paul Hennessey
was the top scorer with 19 runs
to his name. They were bundled
out for 111 of 19.4 overs. Tom
Boden took 2-27, Ian Higgins 2-17
and Harry Scott 2-5.
Nasir Dar was declared Man
of the Match for his brilliant 53
and 1-1.
2nd T20 Pinatar
Pirates won by 7 runs
The Crusaders were confident
of sealing the series after they
won the first match but things
didn’t go the way they expected.
Pirates opening batsman Paul
Hennessey(50) and Ravi Panchal
(43) learned from their mistakes
from the first match as both
batsmen scored quickly and
amassed a partnership of 79
runs.
Once Ravi Panchal was dis-
missed Crusaders bowlers
pulled it back as the Pirates
ended up with 130-4, Ian Higgins
taking 1-7. Crusaders started
with some big hits chasing a
tricky target and lost Sam
Boden and Egan Steven Dantis
quickly as the middle order
failed to capitalise and lost
quick wickets against the Pi-
rates attack.
Nasir Dar looked in control
but was dismissed when the
run rate went up to 10 runs per
over. Captain Jesper Hensen
tried to take Crusaders over
the line but was dismissed in
the penultimate over.
Needing 11 runs to win,Ravi
Panchal took 3 wickets for 3
runs in the final over and took
the game away from the Cru-
saders. Crusaders scored 123-7
and lost the match by 7 runs.
Ravi Panchal was named
Man of the Match for his all
round performance of 43 runs
and 3-17.
1st T20-Malaga CC Vs
Pinatar Pirates
(Pinatar won by 9
wickets)
This was expected to be an ex-
citing contest, Malaga CC did
not look comfortable against
Pinatar bowlers as Malaga cc
batsmen played questionable
shots and couldn’t score runs
at will. Waqas Ali was the top
scorer with 11 runs as Malaga
CC were held up to a score of
87-9 off 20 overs. Bittu Singh and
George took 2 wickets each for
11 runs.
Pinatar Pirates chased the
target with ease as Paul Hen-
nessy(25) and Bittu Singh(45 n.o)
took Pirates over the line with 8
overs to spare.
Bittu Singh was awarded
Man of the Match for his all
round performance of 45 n.o
and 2-11 ,
2nd T20 Pirates won
by 6 wickets
The 2nd T20 had everything in
the box for a T20 match. Paul
Hennessey who was consistent
in every match he played took 5
wickets in an over including a
hat-trick, he could have got a
second hat-trick but he has no
one to blame but himself for
dropping a catch off his own
bowling which denied him the
2nd hat-trick. Malaga CC were
reduced to 81-9 and were in
danger of being bundled out
below 100 runs. But the last
wicket partnership of 58 runs
between Asim Zia(32) and Awais
Cheema(23) took Malaga CC to
139 all out. Paul Hennessey took
6-18.
Pinatar started off well with
the openers adding 19 runs for
the first wicket which was then
was taken over by Gopi
Singh(38) and Ravi Panchal(35
n.o) both played a mature in-
nings as Ravi and Bittu Singh(14
n.o) took them over the line with
3 overs to spare.Naveed took 2-32
off 4 overs. Paul Hennessey was
named Man of the Match for his
brilliant 6-18.

FUENGIROLA was the place for
the Ranking Andalucía cadet
meeting. An event all cadets
wanted to be, to try and gain
points towards the National
Championships later in the year.
For Lisa it was her first at-
tempt. Going into this unaware
of what she would come up
against.
Who was there to fight, 5
strong, older, higher graded
and much more experienced
Andalusian fighters to do battle
with.
But this was Lisa, our Lisa,
Lisa Lindberg who never says
never. Wow she didn’t waste any
time. Determined to prove her-
self Lisa did everything right,
winning on full points in her
first fight. Then came the second
and the same again, full points
to put her in 3rd place.
She continued this winning
streak throughout, but not just
winning, but winning every

fight on Ippon ( full points ).
Amazing. Her attitude and ma-
turity was brilliant.
Needless to say she took first
place and full ranking points at
this event. A big step up the
ladder on the leader board.
A very proud moment for
coach Karen Barkby who was
there with Lisa and her mum.
Sensei Rodd Barkby was with
the boys at a training day in La
Linea CAI Club. A busy but re-
warding weekend of judo.
