Interclub match
There was no officially competi-
tive cricket at the Cártama Oval
last weekend but the Crusaders
took the opportunity to play an
inter-club match.
Twenty two of the club's
members turned up on the day
ready to do battle but not abso-
lutely certain who with. The
usual captain and vice captain
(Jesper and Matt) sat down with
pen and paper and sorted out the
teams. Jesper the Viking won
the toss and elected to bat on a
turning track. The batting team
got away to a flyer with Rob and
Jonas doing good work against
the opening bowlers.
The first bowling change of
the innings saw Shah bowling a
great spell of off spin from the
carp lake end. It wasn't long be-
fore he picked up a couple of
wickets which brought Jesper to
the crease. He played a captain's
innings (apart from one dubious
umpiring moment)and having
been well supported by Egan
Steven Dantis the first innings
closed on a score of 210 after the
allotted 30 overs.
The fielding team was re-
duced to 10 men at half time fol-
lowing the departure of one of
their players following a close
encounter between Harry's foot
and a part of a man's anatomy
that shouldn´
't be kicked!
The second innings began
after a food, cigarette and beer
break (well it was supposed to be
a friendly despite of the kicking
incident!)
Matt's team were soon be-
hind the run rate but following
the loss of the first wicket Matt
came out into the bright Febru-
ary sun (ably assisted by a few
cans of Stowfords) to smash the
bowling around the park.
He managed to get the in-
nings back on track but it was
only really Chris, who carried
his bat and remained unbeaten,
that was able to keep out the
bowling. The game finished
with the second innings closing
well short of the required total.
Victory for the captain's team
but a great day had by all except
the recipient of Harry's boot!
