The document discusses key theorists and principles of constructivism. It outlines constructivism's focus on student-centered learning through problem solving, research, and critical thinking. Key theorists who contributed to constructivism include John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky, Jean Piaget, and Jerome Bruner. According to constructivism, teachers should facilitate student learning and ask open-ended questions, while students construct knowledge through hands-on activities and interaction with peers.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. Key Theorists
John Dewey (1859 – 1952)
• “Father of American Education”
• University Elementary School (est. 1896)
• Advocate of “Progressive Education”
Lev Vygotsky (1896 – 1934)
• Social Cognition Theory
• Believed in “Anchored Instruction” and
“Collaborative Learning:
4. Key Theorists
All of these theorists held a firm belief that
learning should revolve around students'
research, critical thinking and problem solving
skills. Teaching should reach far past repetition
and memorization. Teachers should become an
excellent resource for the children to have but
should allow students to develop and enhance
their own learning process.
5. Key Points of Constructivism
"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I
understand" - Confucius.
A type of learning in which the learner constructs much of
what is learned or comprehended.
When actively participating by using critical thinking skills to
analyze a problem, students create their own understanding
of the problem from past experiences and cultural factors.
Students learn by doing.
A common misunderstanding of constructivism is that
teachers should always allow students to construct
knowledge for themselves.
6. What do the teachers do in the
constructivist theory?
In the constructionist learning theory, the teacher
guides the students to construct their own
knowledge.
Teachers must recognize the ways in which
students integrate their own experiences and
perceptions into constructing their knowledge.
The activities should be student-centered and
interactive, and the teacher should be there to
facilitate.
Teachers will be able to focus their attention on
weaker students instead of brighter students, so
that all students are able to understand the
material.
7. What do teachers do in the
constructivist theory?
Teachers should ask open ended questions to
encourage critical thinking.
Teachers should use primary sources and raw
data to encourage students to come to their
own conclusions.
Technology is easily integrated into a
constructivist classroom, as teachers can have
students research using online databases,
teachers can interact with students using
blogs, and more.
8. What do students do within the
constructionist theory?
Student’s Role:
Motivation to learn and interest in
understanding the topic on their own.
Students will interact and share their ideas
amongst peers
Students will have shared power over there
they things they do and learn in class.
Students will also feel they are given many
choices.
9. What do students do within the
constructionist theory?
The way it helps them learn!
“ Students will learn best by trying to make
sense of something on their own with the
teacher as a guide to help them along the
way.”
Examples of Projects students Research Projects
could participate in through Discussion Groups

way or voice their own opinion will

instructor. )
10. For my own teaching…
Applying constructivism to science is already
widely practiced with labs. I think these labs take
students through the process of rediscovering
the many facts of the natural world in a very
practical manner. As the world becomes more
technological advance labs can develop in there
complexity resulting in the teaching of technical
skills as well as the knowledge of the physical
world.
11. For my own teaching…
Constructivism concerning math does not seem
as obvious. Though I think it would involve
having the student developing the mathematical
method to solve a particular problem, opposed
to the conventional way of teaching the method
before giving the problem. As a result I think it
would be and has been more difficult to
implement for teachers and harder for students
to understand.
