Congress is made up of two chambers - the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House has 435 members with 2-year terms representing districts, while the Senate has 100 members with 6-year staggered terms representing entire states. Most of Congress's work is done in committees which are used to divide up work and study legislation before it reaches the floor for debate and votes. There are various leadership positions within each chamber and committees that help control the legislative process.
