Medicine for Melancholy , a film by Barry Jenkins, uses the story of a young African
American couple learning about each other to explore how Jenkins himself feels
about San Francisco s reputation for beauty and inclusion. The film starts with the
main characters, Micah and Joanne, waking up the morning after a drunken one night
stand and realizing that they do not know much about each other. Micah manages to
beguile a reluctant Joanne into spending the day together in San Francisco. Jenkins
uses picturesque and diverse communities as backdrops for the couple to celebrate
the superficial beauty and inclusiveness of San Francisco. As Micah and Joanne learn
more about each other, they discover that they have different perspectives about the
same city. Micah defines himself and his experiences in the city based on being
African American, and, although Joanne is conscious of her race, she does not view
race as what defines her or her place in San Francisco. At first the Jenkins focuses on
Micah s perspective, highlighting his passion for proselytizing about how black
peopleare struggling to find their identity in the city. With help from Joanne s more
centrist views and Jenkins artful cinematography, the film shifts focus away from
Micah s race centric perspective of inclusion to reveal that San Francisco, the city of
otherness, is actually forcing lower income people of all races to leave by
redevelopment making housing unaffordable. Through the depiction of a young

I had discovered that my unknown microbe is Escherichia coli (E. coli). After
performing various biochemical tests E. coli seemed to fit my microbe the best with
only having two misguided biochemical tests that had not fit the data. The tests that
were performed included the MRVP test, catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate
slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM test, TSI test, and starch test.
These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests. The first
biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl
Red and Vages Proskauer test. It is a broth containing peptone, buffers, and dextrose

This test is used to see if the microbe can hydrolyzes urea to ammonia and carbon
dioxide. When there is an alkaline environment the color turns to pink. Turning pink
would present a positive result. The SIM test tested negative for sulfur reduction
presenting no sign of the color black, positive for indole production presenting the
color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to differentiate
enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For
testing a wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for
triple sugar iron agar, my results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant
and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was a lactose fermenter. The test is used
to see the fermentation of lactose, glucose, and sucrose. The last test I had done
was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have
been negative. A halo may or may not be seen with the presents of iodine. When a
halo is present it is positive, starch is present. When a halo is not present it means
there is an absence of starch. When the media is positive it means that extracellular

The concept of family has changed in many perspectives throughout the years.
Nuclear families started back in the 1950s also known as ideal families . Today
family comes in many varieties whether it s nuclear, accordion, or extended
families and even same sex marriage. One thing that is undoubtedly true is that
family will always be the one that you have an unbreakable bond with. American
families have evolved in many ways leading us away from what was known as
nuclear families. The image of ideal families has changed and is now looked at
differently compared to years ago. But does technology and devices how to do
with the separation of family? In a short story in Rereading America called Quality
Time Redefined , author Alex Williams executes many interviews to try and see
how media has impacted the lives of family. According to one of his observations
there was one family in particular that stood out. Ms. Vavra a cosmetic industry
executive spoke about an evening with her family: ...Their son, Tom, was

I will have to begin eating more carrots, egg yolk, broccoli, cantaloupe and drinking
milk while doing so, to increase my vitamin A (RAE) percentage. For my vitamin E
percentage, milk and egg yolk will help but I can also increase my whole grain foods
and eat some sunflower seeds and nuts to get it up where it needs to be. For my
lacking vitamin D percentage I need to seriously increase my fatty п¬Ѓsh intake
which is not difficult, due to my love of fish. Whole egg and beef liver will also
both help in getting more vitamin D in my diet.
My calorie intake overall was quite low equaling one thousand. My recommended
intake was two thousand. This wouldn t be as much of an issue if I was getting
adequate exercise to burn the excess calories and the calories I was consuming
were equal to the calories I was burning. To correct this through I will be increasing
my exercise by running and lifting weights and ultimately once I start boxing for a
good period of time. I just recently started so Im looking forward to the
improvements I can make of that. Additionally I will need to watch high calorie
foods and decrease my calorie intake substantially.

He does not loosen the reigns, instead he takes Sgt. Mulcahy s suggestion and
trains them harshly. The next training session was mainly focused on aiming and
shooting guns quickly. Robert decides to watch them practice shooting guns, but
when they take their time to load their guns, he gets upset. He chooses Private
Jupiter Sharts to specifically watch. Pvt. Sharts states that he hunted squirrels so
his aim is up to par. Col. Shaw states that, a good man can fire three aimed shots in
a minute so when, Pvt. Sharts cannot deliver quick load and unload of his rifle
within the minute, Col. Shaw yells at him and shoots a gun in the air to show how
fast he should be able to shoot. After getting flustered by the pressure of Col. Shaw,
Pvt. Sharts drops the gun. Col. Shaw was also harsh on Private Trip. When Pvt.
Trip disappears and is re discovered, he is sentenced to a flogging punishment.
Major Cabot Forbes, a close friend of Col. Shaw, tries to convince Robert to change
his mind about the flogging, because it would make them no better than their past
slaveowners. Colonel Robert Shaw ignores Maj. Forbes comment because he
realizes he needs to be tough on the regiment in order to prepare them for war. He
tells Sergeant Mulcahy to proceed with the flogging. But after the punishment, he
soon realizes that Private Trip disappeared to go find shoes due to his previous worn

Although the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and Texas Education
Code (TEC) provide the basic roles and responsibilities of school counselors, every

The role of a school counselor can be both rewarding and challenging. One of the

I believe attending school at the University of Phoenix I will have more job
opportunities, increased earning power, and learning opportunities, broaden my
perspective, career preparation and most importantly achieving a lifelong dream of
obtaining a college degree. I am a thirty three year old man and new student at The
University of Phoenix; this is where all my goals start. The first goal is to attend a
