This document provides an overview of different types of conditionals in English grammar. It defines four main types of conditionals using different combinations of tenses: Type 0 conditionals use present tense verbs; Type I use present and future tenses; Type II use past tense verbs and modal verbs like "would" or "might"; Type III use past perfect tense verbs and modal verbs like "would have". It also discusses inversion of Type III conditionals, mixed conditionals, and other conditional connectors like "unless", "provided that", and "in case". Examples are provided to illustrate the different conditional types.

6. INVERSION 3RD CONDITIONAL
• Had I known about Mr Smith’s behaviour
sooner, I would have fired him immediately. (If
I had known…)
• We use this type of sentences in more formal
English.

(mixing types II and III)
Yesteday I went to bed early . I’m not tired
today.
If I had gone to bed late, I would be tired
today.
Yesterday, I heard a French song but I didn’t
understand anything.
If I could speak French, I would have
