Conditional sentences discuss known factors or hypothetical situations and their consequences. There are four types of conditional sentences that express different meanings and require paying attention to verb tense. The four types are: zero conditional for general truths using simple present tense; type 1 for possible conditions and probable results using simple present and future tenses; type 2 for hypothetical conditions and probable results using simple past and present conditional tenses; and type 3 for unreal past conditions and probable past results using past perfect and perfect conditional tenses. Mixed conditionals discuss unreal past conditions and probable present results using past perfect and present conditional tenses.
