There are four major
 institutions that distribute
 magazines these are IPC, Bauer
 consumer media, the National
 Magazine Company and Conde
 Naste. These are all large
 magazine publishers who publish
 a wide variety of magazines.
 IPCis a large publisher which publishes a
wide variety of magazines from Nuts to TV
and satellite. It primarily published in the UK
before being taken over to become an
 international company who publishes
different media products. They also publish
the magazine NME which is one of Britain’s
 biggest selling music magazines. Therefore
this company may not want to publish my
magazine as it is in direct competition with
NME. The genre for NME is relatively similar
so IPC would not want a magazine that is
pretty much a carbon copy of NME.
 Bauer media group are another large publishing
company based in Germany who distribute to
Europe as well as china. They publish magazines
such as Empire to Q. As a large international
company who distribute to 15 countries
worldwide they would be good to get a big
distribution but due to them having Q and
Kerrang, which are already two very popular
music magazines and both are for a similar
target audience. My magazine genre of rock is
similar to these magazines genres and therefore
it would be a bad idea to be published by this
institution as they already have a similar type of
    media product.
 The National Magazine Company is a UK distributor of
magazines which distributes 20 magazines throughout
the UK. These magazines are more fashion based
magazines aimed at the middle class such as esquire
and cosmopolitan. This company would be a possible
choice to distribute my magazine as they do not have
a magazine similar to mine. This means that I am
opening up a new market for them and also means I
will be the main competitor in the music market on
their behalf. The disadvantage though is that my
magazine would not be distributed world-wide
instead it would only be distributed in the UK and
therefore I won’t get as many sales and could not
compete with the high sales other magazines such as
NME and Kerrang get from their world-wide
    distribution
 Conde Naste is an international publisher who distribute all
over the world. They mostly publish fashion and lifestyle
magazines such as GQ and Vogue. I have chosen Conde
Naste to be my magazine distributor for a couple of key
reasons. Firstly they do not have a similar or a big music
magazine which they publish meaning that I will be there
international leader in the music market representing
Conde Naste. This would also lead to bigger promotions for
my magazines where as if I was published by IPC I might
not get as much advertising as they would not want me to
take away customers from there other music magazines.
The second reason is that I would get worldwide coverage
for my magazine. This would expand my target audience
and increase consumers as well as profits. The third reason
is that Conde Naste is a world-wide respected publishing
company and with their label this again would increase
    sales.
