What is computer memory ?
A memory is just like a human brain.
Computer memory is the storage space in computer.
It is used to store data and instruction.
The memory is divided into large number of small parts.
Each part is called cell.

MemoryTypes ?
Memory is primarily of three types :
1. Cache Memory.
2. Primary Memory/Main Memory.
3. Secondary Memory.
7/31/2014Presentation on computer memory....... 3
Cache Memory :
High speed.
Act as a buffer.
It consumes less access time.
It stores data for temporary use.
Limited capacity / very expensive.
7/31/2014Presentation on computer memory....... 4
Primary Memory (Main Memory) :
Primary memory holds only those data and instructions on which
computer is currently working.
Limited capacity.
Working memory.
Faster than secondary memories.
A computer cannot run without primary memory.
7/31/2014Presentation on computer memory....... 5
Types of Primary Memory :
RAM :
-Volatile.
-RW memory.
ROM :
-NonVolatile.
-Ossnly R memory.
7/31/2014Presentation on computer memory....... 6
Secondary Memory :
These are used for storing Data/Information permanently.
External memory or non-volatile.
Backup memory.
These are magnetic and optical memories.
Slower then primary memory.

Types of Secondary Memory :
MagneticTape :
Used for recording analogue or digital data.
Transfer data a bit slower than hard drives.
Cheaper.
Floppy Disks :
Very small and portable.
Floppy disks comes in 3 sizes: 8-inches, 5.5-inches and 3.5-inches.

Hard Disk Drive :
HDD is the main, and usually largest data storage device in a computer.
It is a non-volatile, random access digital magnetic data storage device.
Optical Disk :
Electronic data storage medium.
Two main types of optical disks are:
CD’s.
DVD’s.
7/31/2014Presentation on computer memory....... 9
Flash Drive :
A flash drive is a small external storage device.
Flash drives are removable and rewritable reads and writes to flash memory.
Flash Memory Cards :
Flash memory is a EEPROM non-volatile computer storage chip.
Flash memory cards are Flat and have a size of about 1 inch * 0.75 inch with a
thickness of about 2mm.
