Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper
Writing a "Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper" can be a challenging task that requires
careful consideration, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the subjects being compared.
The difficulty lies not only in gathering relevant information but also in presenting it coherently
and persuasively.
Firstly, selecting suitable subjects for comparison is crucial. Identifying two topics that share
similarities and differences, yet are substantial enough to provide meaningful content, can be a
daunting process. Once chosen, delving into extensive research is necessary to gather enough
data to support your points effectively.
Organizing the essay poses another challenge. Establishing a clear structure and deciding on the
most suitable method of comparison—whether it be point-by-point or block style—requires
thoughtful planning. Each paragraph must contribute to the overall argument while maintaining
a logical flow.
Additionally, maintaining a balance between the comparison and contrast aspects can be tricky.
It's essential to provide a fair assessment of both subjects, avoiding bias and ensuring that the
essay doesn't lean heavily towards one side.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement is another hurdle. This statement should encapsulate the
main argument and guide the reader through the essay. Ensuring that it reflects the nuanced
relationship between the compared subjects adds an extra layer of complexity.
Moreover, the essay's language and tone need to be precise and academic. Striking the right
balance between formality and engaging prose is essential for keeping the reader's interest while
conveying a scholarly approach.
In conclusion, composing a "Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper" involves navigating
through the intricacies of topic selection, research, organization, balance, thesis formulation, and
writing style. It demands a meticulous approach to detail and a commitment to presenting a well-
rounded analysis.

The Cleveland Elementary School Shooting
The Cleveland Elementary School Shooting, 1989 Some refer to it as The
Slaughter in a School Yard, The Stockton Massacre, and others as The Cleveland
Elementary School Shooting. Something as horrifying as someone shooting down
innocent children playing at recesses on school grounds was never expected here
in the United States of America. Although there was past cases of school
shootings, this was the first shooting to be televised on national television of its
magnitude (Taining, P et al., 2014). A mass murderer is defined as someone who
slaughters many people at one time. This particular incident unfortunately was not
the slaughter of people, but it was children. It happened around 11:40 AM on
January 17th, 1989 in Stockton, California. A man by the name of Patrick Edward
Purdy opened fire on children ages six through nine playing at recess on school
grounds of Cleveland Elementary School. This tragic case brought questions to
people everywhere in our nation as to why it was so easy for a mentally unstable
individual such as Patrick Purdy to enter a gun store and purchase a semiautomatic
weapon ( Slaughter in a, 2001). Patrick Edward Purdy was born November 10,
1964 in Fort Lewis Washington. His parents divorced at age two. He is described as
an adolescent as quiet but unable to cope with anything. He had a troubled
relationship with his mother and was made to leave his mother s home after an
altercation between the two resulting in him hitting her. He

Politics and history through an alternative path to self rule
Lagaan (2001), through the setting of Hindi cinema and the popular appeal of
cricket, charts an alternative history of India, from the colonised past of 1893 to an
ideal post colonial future. Using elements of pop culture, the director Ashutosh
Gowarikar transforms the singularity of Champaneer s struggle against triple lagaan,
into a microcosm of an Indian nation s ideal path toward self rule. Notably, this self
rule is ideologically centred ex ante on Gandhi s vision of self sufficient village units,
as mentioned in Hind Swaraj . In doing so, Gowarikar is able to (a) tell the historical
tale of colonial rule and oppression in India, and (b) through dealing with
Champaneer s internal struggles toward becoming a self sufficient village unit,
highlight current thorny issues of Indian politics.
Gowarikar uses the popularity of cricket in India as a catalyst for a nationalistic
struggle. Although the wager is based on the amelioration of economic conditions for
Champaneer (namely triple lagaan versus no lagaan), the bet transforms into a
struggle for independence and self rule through the medium of cricket. To the
audience, cricket gives this marginalised, hitherto unknown village a (notably non
violent) medium with which they can resist colonial oppression. While the villagers
fight for the right to pay no tax for three years, the audience is invited to interpret
Essay on My Lai Massacre
My Lai Massacre Soldiers are trained to always follow orders, and to never question
orders. But that belief is somewhat illogical. Soldier s are to obey any lawful order
given. But the training involved, the often chaotic nature of battle, and the need to
follow authority to maintain survival can lead to a very blurred vision of what is
right or wrong. One s animalistic instincts may take over. Sometimes there are such
situations when you ve stepped over the line. Such as the horrendous act that took
place on March 16, 1968 in the village of Son My. The Quang Ngai Province, more
than any other province in South Viet Nam, was suspected by the United States
military officials as being a Viet Cong stronghold. Army intelligence... Show more

On February 25, 1968 Charlie Company walked into a mine field. Three men died,
and twelve were wounded. A few weeks later on March fourteenth, a small squad
from Charlie Company ran into another booby trap, this time killing a popular
sergeant, blinding on GI, and wounding many others. The soldiers of Charlie
Company became demoralized as they lost nearly one third of their troop in two
months. Many in the company had given in to an easy pattern of violence.
Prisoners were systematically beaten, unarmed civilians sometimes murdered,
whole villages burned, and wells poisoned. Rapes were not uncommon. Many
military leaders encouraged and rewarded kills in an effort to produce impressive
body counts that could be reported to Saigon as an indication of progress. On
March 16, 1968. Charlie Company was ordered to enter the Hamlet of My Lai to
clear out the Viet Cong s forty eighth battalion that was believed to be in the
vicinity. The soldier s mission would be to engage the forty eighth battalion and
destroy the village of My Lai. The attack was to begin at seven thirty in the
morning. Military leaders believed the women and children would be out of the
village heading for the local market by this time, leaving only the Viet Cong. The
soldiers were ordered to explode brick homes, set fires to thatch homes, shoot
livestock, poison wells, and destroy the enemy. That plan was that Lieutenant Calley

The Victorian Time Period
Many Victorians thought they were living in a time of great change. Queen
Victoria s long reign occurred during political and social stability. But this stability
was established before Victoria and most of her subjects were even born. Britain
was free of war between Napoleon s defeat in 1815 and World War I in 1914. While
in power, Victoria was queen empress of over 200 million people not living in Great
Britain. At the same time the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century was
expanding. New towns, goods, wealth and jobs for those that were climbing through
the middle class. Middle class and working class politicians were put into power,
allowing all to have a say while still remaining a monarchy. Thomas Babington
Macaulay helped show the middle class attitude of the time government, history,
and civilization. To Macaulay, history was related to progress and progress was
defined as actual improvements that the person could physically see or touch.
Macaulay also wanted the streets of London to be cleaned up, paved, lighted, and
watched over by an actual police force. He had the idea of splitting areas based on
wealth, so the poor did not bother the wealthier. Although all did not agree with
Macaulay, many of those like him did agree. The first decade Victoria was in
power was known as the Hungry Forties . She came into power the very first year
of a depression that left 1.5 million workers and their families on a type of relief.

The Main Purpose Of Alcoholic Anonymous Essay
The main purpose of Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A.) is to help members keep an
open mind on the subject and can stay sober. Using the 12 steps designed by A.A.
assists people to break through their denial and to see the problems alcohol has
caused in their lives. The Twelve Steps are the core of A.A s program of recovery
from alcoholism. They are based on the trial and error experience of A.A s early
members and have worked for millions of alcoholics since then. In recent years,
there are about 1.2 million people who belong to one of A.A. s 55,000 meeting
groups in the United States.
On October 9 2016, after the clinical, I attended the A.A meeting located at St.
Patrick s Roman Catholic Church 9511 4th Ave Brooklyn. The open meeting
started at 4pm and was held with approximately 35 to 40 attendees for one hour.
The room was located at the basement of the building but it was clean, cozy and
bright. There were many chairs and one big C shape desk in the front so some
people could be sitting around the table while most of people were sitting behind the
table. One interesting thing was that there was a person who translated the entire
meeting in sign language for the deaf so the meeting looked more formal and
organized. Unlike my imagination that people would have unkempt, addicting
appearances, and borderline offensive hygiene, the majority of the members had
clean and nice looking, well kempt, and healthy appearances. As soon as we entered
the room, one woman welcomed us and

that I suddenly froze. Being a random Tuesday in April, why was the sun waking
me instead of the Bob Marley s Get Up, Stand Up blaring from my phone at an
ungodly hour? I was late; very, very late. Flying out of my bed like a horse out of
the gates, I yelled out a few profanities while pulling on the first items of clothing
that happened to be lying around and whipping my head around to figure out my
bearings. Time didn t seem to exist in my room; there was no way to tell. My phone,
my clock, my laptop, everything was gone. Somebody was having some fun with me,

Wal Mart As A Research Organization
Introduction For this research paper, I would like to select Wal Mart as a research
organization. Wal Mart was initiated by Sam Walton in 1962. In addition, this is an
American multinational retail corporation that runs chains of large discount
department stores and warehouse stores in approximately 27 countries. Moreover,
the organization operates its business throughout e commerce websites in around
10 countries and in every week about 245 million customers visits these sites.
Furthermore, as per the Fortune Global 500 list, in 2013, Wal Mart was the second
biggest public corporation and the biggest private company in the all over the
world. It is the world s prevalent retailer organization that has about two million
employees to perform all the business activities in an effective manner. In addition,
as per the financial report 2013, the revenues of the corporation were
approximately US$ 469.162 billion. On the other hand, for this paper I would like
to select Wal Mart due to several reasons. For case, the major reason behind it is
that Wal Mart is a modern organization that adopts and implement innovative ideas
as well as methods to perform its all the business activities in an effective and a
more comprehensive manner. Along with this, the company works on an effective
principle: save money and live better. Moreover, Wal Mart is an organization that is

The Theory Of Management Theory And Practice
Conrad Hilton Sr. once said Success seems to be connected with action. Successful
people keep moving. They make mistakes but they don t quit (Our Hospitality
Leaders, 2013). Conrad Hilton attributes his success in business to his management
philosophy of treating people fairly. Conrad was a people oriented person, hiring
and empowering his managers to make important decisions for the hotel. He
encouraged and supported his employees to provide excellent service for the
travelers and customers staying, and doing business in the hotel. This philosophy can
also serve as a simplistic way of defining management: organizing and coordinating
daily business activities to achieve organizational goals. Since the early 1900 s
several methodologies have been used to explain the nuts and bolts , and processes of
management theory and practice. Throughout the evolutionary process of
management theory and practice four major schools and approaches have been
identified: the classical approach, the behavioral approach, the management science
approach, and contemporary approach. The classical approach to management is the
oldest school of thought dating back to the late 1890 s and losing favor by the 1940
s. The contributions to the classic school of management included increasing
productivity of the organization, and that of the worker, as well as providing the
framework for management of diverse organizations. This methodology was a

He and A Jazz-Age Clerk
In He by Katherine Anne Porter and A Jazz Age Clerk by James Thomas Farrell,
two characters who struggle with the aspects of poverty express the significance of
how people view them in their lives; their primary concern is what people say and
think of them. Both characters, Mrs. Whipple and Jack, seem ashamed of their
current lives and continually attempt to impress others. Mrs. Whipple constantly
informs Mr. Whippleof the thoughts or ideas that people might have towards their
simple minded son, whereas Jack characterizes a materialistic and superficial person
whose main goal is to impress others. Furthermore, both characters are extremely
proud and overly self conscious. In He, Porter narrates the already mentioned

Mrs. Whipple clearly becomes uptight about what her own family has to say or
think about Him, to the point where she wishes she were dead: But they can t say
He wasn t dressed every lick as good as Adna oh, honest, sometimes I wish I was
dead! (439). Thus, it is evident that Mrs. Whipple feels stressed and under a lot of
pressure with His situation. After all, it is Mrs. Whipple s goal to make sure that
people understand that her family, including Him, is nothing more than an ordinary
family. Sadly, Mrs. Whipple s excessive concern about what others think or say, her
self consciousness, does not allow her to focus on what really is important: her
family, but more specifically, Him. She finally realized that the way she treated her
son was wrong; towards the end, she at last opens her eyes and sees the world from
His perspective, the cruel, uncaring, and lonely perspective:
Whatever it was, Mrs. Whipple couldn t bear to think of it. She began to cry,
frightfully, and wrapped her arms tight around Him. His head rolled on her shoulder:
she had loved Him as much as she possibly could, there were Adna and Emly who
had to be thought of too, there was nothing she could do to make up to Him for His
life. Oh, what a mortal pity He was ever born. (444 45) Jack in James T. Farrells A

literary tradition and mixed it with the Southern literary form. Flannery O Connor

Themes Of Love In La Belle Dame Sans Merci
How do different Poets express different attitudes to Romantic Marriage in La Belle
Dame sans Merci , My Last Duchess and Sonnet 116
By: David Hu
The theme and idea of the unforgiving tides of love is presented in a range of ways
throughout the poems in the anthology. The poets all choose to build their stories
around this subject while each choose to approach this from different perspectives
and stances. La Belle Dame sans Merci focuses on the idea of unreciprocated love;
reflecting William Keat s personal feud against the pains of love. Balance between
the desires and sacrifices of love becomes one of the central ways Keats tries to
deliver his message whereas Robert Browning s My Last Duchess is associated with

The ballad adopts a unique stanza structure that shortens the last line of every
quatrain which creates an abrupt change in rhythm, helping keep the reader
focused. The result is the first three lines of every quatrain being written in Iambic
tetrameter in which a line contains four feet, with the stress falling upon the first
syllable in each pair as opposed to the Iambic dimeter in the fourth line which
contains two feet with the stress falling upon the first syllable in each pair for
instance, Fast withereth too. , in line 12 . This is intended to help enhance the flow
of the poem by forcing the reader to conform to the rhythm. The differentiation in
the fourth line is used by Keats to create a feeling of emptiness and suspense. This
is used by Keats to emphasize the lovesick and sore feelings of the knight to the
reader. In contrast, Robert Browning s My Last Duchess is written in the form of a
monologue through Iambic Pentameter. The monologue is one entity divided only by
the rhyming couplets. However, the flow and rhyme is partially sacrificed because of
there is so much enjambment. Browning uses this format in order to emphasize the
themes presented. For instance in line 31, Or blush, at least. She thanked men good!
but thanked , where but thanked is a continuation of the phrase she thanked men good
. Browning uses this format in My Last Duchess

THE GREAT CHILEAN EARTHQUAKE The Chilean earthquake was the earth s
biggest earthquake ever recorded in the twentieth century. This earthquake took place
near Valdivia, southern Chile, on May 22, 1960. The magnitude (the measurement of
the peak of the movement) recorded by a seismograph (a device used to find and
record vibrations that comes from an earthquake) was 9.5. It is possible that other
earthquakes were larger; however, the Chilean Earthquake is the largest earthquake
since precise estimates of magnitude were made possible in the early 1900s. What is
an earthquake and why do they happen? : An earthquake is vibrating of the ground

methods of study for accurate and more conclusive results are naturalistic observation

Let s examine Naturalistic observation first. To start, what is naturalistic observation?
This term is defined as the inconspicuous (as much as possible) observation of an
individual/group in their natural (unaltered) environment. The benefit of this (in

is that people always alter their behavior when they are aware they re being watched.
However, being that this question is directed towards children there is a resource

Out...
1)According to Article 15, Health and Wealth, poor people tend to have shorter lives
and more health problems. What are some of the reasons that this is the case? What
can be done about the situation?
Article 15, Health and Wealth, states that some of the factors which led to poor
health are inequality, poverty, and the way we organize out health care system.
Even though all these factors are involved but the main reason leads to poverty.
Poverty seems to be the key reason because everything costs so much. Most of the
Americans are not paid enough to meet their personal need and barely have
enough money to make their ends meet. The struggle of trying to be on the
economic level hurts their health because people tend to take a lot of stress.
Poverty has a lot of dangers like consumption of too much alcohol, tobacco, illegal
drugs and fast foods. This sort of lifestyle can have a great impact on health causing
some dangerous diseases. Some of the other leading diseases that can be found in the
poor are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and untreated medical conditions, because
they cannot afford the health care systems. Even the middle class society worries
about medical emergencies or trips to the doctor s office because they are not sure,
what might be covered in their insurance.
2)Please summarize the ways in which our mainstream media make the issue of
economic class invisible, as discussed in Article 45, Media Magic: Making Class

Modern Political Campaigns
Modern political campaigns, according to the political science community, are known
to not be the only external influence on both public opinion and candidate support
during presidential elections in the United States. Whether campaigns hold a
significant impact on election outcomes or if they influence public opinion is a
debate that continues. Political scientists are currently challenged, when it comes to
campaigns, with the ability to measure their type and the spectrum of their
influence on society. The universal consensus held today acknowledges that at least
a correlation exists between campaigns and public opinion and is supported by
historical trends and a political process composed of liberal democratic values. A
campaign s specific impact on the political process, separate from external variables,
is a relationship that has been extensively researched by political scientists and could
provide insight on creating an efficient strategy to achieve political power. Election
candidates and their teams have strategically constructed their campaigns using this
existing knowledge; and have adapted to recent phenomenon including the rise of
globalization, increased political awareness, and a higher emphasis on external
influences. These conditions have created an environment where the transmission of
information on issues and characteristics, especially as they pertain to the candidate,
can manipulate the momentum of a campaign and ultimately a vote. These external

Christian Worldview Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter one discusses what a worldview is and more specifically a Christian
worldview. A Christian worldview involves believing in God and that he created
the universe which has laws. It also includes finding the ultimate truth in the Bible.
God has written his truth in the Bible for us to read about. Not only does the Bible
tell us truth, it also shows us what ethics we should have. The character of God
shows the moral laws we should believing. Lastly, the Christian worldview states
that God created humans in his image, but due to sin it has been temporarily ruined.
Since Jesus died on the cross, though, humans can be reconciled to God again.
Although, this basic break down of a Christian worldview is helpful, it does not give

theory and since spontaneous generation was disproved the only choice that was
left was that God created life which then evolved. Wright goes on to discuss the
properties, from astronomer Hugh Ross, that had to be just perfect for life to be
attainable on Earth. There are too many stipulations for life that would just randomly
form. One big theory for how life came about is chemical evolution. There is not
sufficient data to prove this
Operating Systems And Software Systems
An operating system is a system software that manages and control all interaction
between a computer hardware and software. There are several types of operating
systems, for example, multi user, multitasking, single user and more. The first
ever created OS date back in the 50 s. As computer and technology progress over
time operating system kept evolving. Among the commonly used operating
systems of today is Linux, a Unix like type of OS. Linux creation begins in 1991 as
a software kernel and part of a small project developed by Linus Torvalds, a student
from a University in Finland. Under GNU (general public license), the software
was available as a free and open source and gave everyone the right to access,
change and modify its original design. Because of the way it is designed it can run
on multiple platforms such has Intel, Alpha and more. Like many open systems,
Compared to more expensive operating systems, Linux was an economical
alternative for cost conscious companies that needed to quickly create Web based
applications. When more developers are able to provide input about a system, it
becomes easier to fix flaws and bugs that hinder performance; roll out improvements;
increase the speed of system evolution; and combine an application s components in
new and exciting ways not intended by the original developer. (Ecommerce) Linux
has three major components the kernel, the system library and the system utility.
Some of the great features of Linux include

Essay about Cirrhosis
Cirrhosis
Cirrhosis is a serious disease of the liver where scar tissue replaces normal healthy
tissue, and affects the function and structure of the liver. Liver, which is the largest
organ in the body, has a vital roles which are important to keep the body functioning
well. Liver makes proteins and enzymes that regulate blood clotting. It also regulates
cholesterol and stores the energy. In addition, the liver removes poisons from the
blood. 30% of cirrhosis s victims are diagnosed will remain alive for 5 years.

Metabolism and genetics also participate in cirrhosis for example abnormal collection
of iron (hemochromatosis) or copper (Wilson s disease) in the liver causing injury,
scarring and cirrhosis. Further cause of cirrhosis is the Autoimmune chronic active
hepatitis that happens when the immune system attacks the liver and causes
inflammation, damage, and cirrhosis. Drugs and chemicals also cause injury of the
liver.
Cirrhosis has a few symptoms varies among patients depending on the degree of
injury.
One of these symptoms is jaundice, which is characterized by yellowish skin and
eyes because of an inability of the liver to remove bilirubin from the blood. Patient
with cirrhosis also suffering from itching, due to deposited bile s products in the
skin. This patient also suffers from accumulation of fluid in legs that is called
edema. As a result of the blockage of blood flow via the liver, fluid accumulation in
abdomen which is worsen by the decrease in protein production. Other symptoms
include fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss and nausea. As the disease
progress, complications may develop ,such as varices that happens with cirrhosis
patient when the blood flow through the liver slows, so the blood from intestine go
back to the vessels of the stomach and esophagus, these vessels are not meant to
carry this much of blood so they dilate (varices), with increasing
Leadership and Ideology in Animal Farm Essay
The Theme of Leadership in Animal Farm
Sub theme: Power Corrupts
The sub theme of power corrupting people is very eminent in animal farm. The
leaders on the farm the pigs, were the brains of the farm. The animals let the pigs
lead the farm, thereby placing them into a position of power. This power corrupted
them as they became more and more greedy and their ideology became more and
more corrupted. Also, the pig s transgressions of the rules of animalism worsen as
they grow in power.
In chapter 2, when the 7 commandments were first written down, there was already a
slight corruption in the pigs. The pigs steal the milk and apples and explain it with the
lie that these foods have nutrients essential to pigs, which need these ... Show more

An obvious example would be Stalin, or Hitler, both who claimed to be helping
their countries to break off from oppression, but they themselves became the
oppressors. Orwell wants to show that if a leader is always allowed to do whatever
he wants, or if he is not kept in check, the leader will start to get corrupted.. This is a
vicious cycle as the more power the leaders amass, the more corrupted they become.
The more corrupted they become, the more power they amass.
This sub theme is treated carefully and crafted well by George Orwell as after all, it is
one of the most important ideas Orwell is trying to convey in the book. The 7
commandments were created by Orwell so that the reader would be able to clearly
see the gradual corruption in the pigs as the got more powerful. Orwell also
crafted many incidents into the story where the reader would be able to catch a
glimpse of the pigs corruption. One example of such an incident is when the pigs
steal the milk and apples. Another incident is the end scene, where there was no way
the animals could tell which was pig and which was man. Also, he uses irony to
convey this theme, as can be seen from the milk and apples incident and also the
incident where Squealer takes the sheep somewhere to re educate them when he was
in fact brainwashing them into learning the new
The And Mausoleum Of The First Qin
Ara Pacis and Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor are two monuments from
different ancient civilizations. Ara Pacis Augustae means the altar of Augustus
peace in English. Augustus is also known as Octavian, he started to use the name
Augustus after he was in power of Rome. Although Augustus was an elected consul
after Actium war, he is literally a dictator according to actions he took during the
period he was in power of Rome. He destroyed the republic Rome, and become the
first emperor in Roman history. The Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor is the
mausoleum of Ying Zheng, the first emperor ever in Chinese History. Zheng, like
Augutus, is also primus inter pares in many people before him. He was the king of
Qin, a vassal state, before he declared to be an emperor of Qin dynasty. Under his
leadership, Qin conquered the other six vassal states, unified China. Soon after that,
Zheng declared himself to be Shi Huang Di, which means the first emperor of the
unified China. Ara Pacis Augustae and Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor share
the similar meanings of showing their power and embedding themselves into history
as well as minds of people who live in and after that time period.Ara Pacis is a
Roman altar built for Augustus, during the time period between 13 and 9 B.C.E
(Armstrong 346), commissioned by the Roman Senate and consecrated in honor of
his return from Spain and Gaul (Armstrong 346). This altar is built in honor of the

The Importance of Safety in Coal Mining Companies
Employee Safety Importance of Safety One of the most vital investments made in any
mining company is to ensure that their people return safe and sound at the end of a
day of work. In the current era of rapid industrial growth, managing the impacts of this
growth on the safety and wellbeing of employees is critical. The impact also extends
towards the mining companies, overall labor pool and the constant threat of mine
closures and job losses. Whenever there is an accident or death in a mine, companies
face routine shutdowns ordered by the government for investigations, and work
stoppages by union members. This causes companies to suffer huge production
losses. Government and the Focus on Safety The government has adopted a strong
stance on Coal Mining Safety and has extended a commitment towards increasing
general safety for mineworkers. It is envisaged that greater cooperation could
contribute to the safety efforts. Government continues to engage in constructive
discussions to engage with both business and labour on how to improve on safety.

The Texas Nurses Association ( Tna )
The Texas Nurses Association (TNA) District one meeting for the El Paso area,
took place on September 20, 2016 at 1845. The President of District one, Paula
Meagher was unable to attend the meeting as she was ill. She did however provide
us with a list of the current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) issues that
TNA is engaged in. The issue that really caught my attention was TexasOccupations
Code, section 157.011 (b 1) which deals with APRN restrictions on writing
prescriptions for Schedule two controlled substances. The TNA website states:
Texas Occupations Code, Section 157.0511 (b 1) states that an APRN may prescribe
Schedule IIs in a hospital. The law does not say that APRNs may prescribe but must
fill the prescription in a hospital. If patient feel more comfortable going to their local
pharmacy to fill their prescription, then state boards should not prohibit them from
doing so (TNA, 2016).
While in the hospital APRNs can prescribe schedule two substances and must be
filled in the hospitals pharmacy. The APRN is restricted in which they cannot write
these prescriptions for patients to fill in an outside pharmacy (TNA, 2016). TNA
states the Following:
TNA recommends that the Legislature clarify this statute to remove any doubt
regarding the interpretation, and allow all APRNs to issue discharge prescriptions for
patients, regardless of the pharmacy the patient chooses (TNA, 2016).
This issue can cause confusion, and in some hospitals without a pharmacy,
Energy Sector Of Sri Lanka
1.0 Introduction
Energy is one of the major inputs of an economy. It directly affects development of
human beings and society. Therefore, safeguarding a cheap and stable supply of
energy is one of the main objectives of any country. However, increasing world
population, high global energy consumption and depletion of global resources has
challenged this objective resulting energy as one of the main concerns today s world.
Accordingly, this report focuses on analysing various issues faced by different
governments related to energy and the strategies they have implemented to minimse
them.

Accordingly, the government has decided to expand its existing energy mix to coal
and non conventional renewable energy (NRE) such as dendro power, biogas and
waste, solar power and wind power. This expansion plan is considered as Long
Term Generation Expansion Plan (LTGEP) and it is their plan to keep remain it in
force until 80% of Sri Lanka s electrical energy supplied to the national grid is from
non oil based fuels. In Addition to that, Sri Lanka has started exploration of oil and
gas in Gulf of Mannar Basin as another strategy of fuel diversification. However, it
is in its initial stage yet and it will take long time to see a result (Ministry of Power
Energy, 2008).
Another main issue faced by Sri Lanka s energy sector is inefficiency of supply and
consumption of energy. When supplying energy, transmission and distribution energy
losses in the electricity sector has been brought down to 13.5% of net generation by
end 2009. Therefore, the actions have been taken to accelerate investments and
management efforts to reduce technical and non technical losses. To uplift the energy
efficiency of demand side, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has introduced
mandatory labelling system for appliances and Energy efficient building code for
building design and construction sector (Ministry of Power Energy, 2008).

Pros And Cons Of Emergency Management
Make the case for retaining an all hazards approach to emergency management that
includes terrorism and its associated hazards as one of many hazards. Discuss the
pros and cons of such an approach as it relates to all four phases of emergency
management: Mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery An all all hazards
approach provides a basic framework for responding to a wide variety of hazards, it
does not mean literally being prepared for everything. However, it does mean there
are things that occur in many kinds of hazards that are addressed in a general plan
and provide a basis from which to start planning for an event.
First, emergency management usually begins mitigation practices through
observations of disasters or hazards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The con side is planners need to wait for an incident to happen in order to evaluate
the method that was used and if it was beneficial. Second, preparedness is of
extreme importance and the program is extremely reliant on the size of the
community that is being supported. The pro to this is that in large communities
there are vast quantities of resources, however, the con side to this is that resources
are limited to the volume of people with whom they are able to supply. With regards
to preparedness in small communities, the pro side of things is resources can be
prorated to last an enormous amount of time. However, the con side to this ability to
reach those resources may be more problematic. Third, the response of stand alone
emergency management programs that need to be set up in communities can be easy
or difficult to obtain. The pro side to this argument is that large metropolitan cities
have the financial backing and multiple resources to have a stand alone program and
should have them implemented. However, a con to this is small cities and towns
cannot financially afford a stand alone emergency management system therefore
limiting their ability to respond to a hazard in a full fledged manner. Finally, recovery
within communities is
Why Did Icarus Lose His Son

descriptions caused him to lose his child, Icarus. Pride and punishment is theme in
Daedalus and Icarus. With this contingency, Daedalus actions caused him to lose
his son. In Ovid s story, one of his actions were that he went first. Instead of letting

I Am A Second Grade English Language Arts Teacher
In my five years of being a third grade English Language Arts teacher, the
implementation of guided reading has been my biggest struggle. My school has
fully adopted the guided reading program within the past 2 years. A guided reading
library and books for professional development have been purchased, but very little
training has occurred. The journey of learning how to successfully teach Reading
using Jan Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a challenge to say the
least. Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing guided
reading in my classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about
guided reading in an attempt to gain further understanding of the process and the
outcomes before the next school year begins. Guided reading is a method of teaching
reading that be used with every reader, whether they are just beginning to read,
struggling to read, or are able to read independently (Iaquinta, 2006). According to
Anita Iaquinta, there are three fundamental purposes for using guided reading. The
first fundamental purpose is to meet all of the ranges of instructional needs of every
student in the classroom. The second fundamental purpose for guided reading is that
it enables students to significantly build and expand their reading abilities. The final
fundamental purpose of guided reading is for students to learn how to read
increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta, 2006). Guided reading lessons are completed in
small groups
Lack Of Risk Of A Disease Based On Health Behaviors
The first component in the HBM is perceived seriousness which is defined as one s
belief of the severity of a disease or health condition (Hayden, 2014). Old people
understand that the consequences from OA are serious. The pain from OA prevents
people from performing their normal activities. Another component in the HBM is
perceived susceptibility which is defined as one s belief of risk of acquiring a disease
based on health behaviors (Hayden, 2014). People believe that aging causes many
chronicproblems. Old people understand that body ache and limit ability to walk
are part of the aging process. Often times, threat leads to positive changes in health
behaviors to prevent and reduce health risks (Hayden, 2014). This is a result of
HBM s perceived susceptibility and seriousness components (Hayden, 2014). The
third component in the HBM is perceived benefits which refers to one s belief of
behavioral changes as advised would prevent disease and bring positive health
outcomes (Hayden, 2014). For example, patient with OA will comply with diet,
exercise, weight management, and medications as advised by health care providers
when they believe that the interventions will help prevent long term complications.
The fourth component is perceived barriers which refer to individual s obstacles that
one needs to overcome to achieve positive health outcomes (Hayden, 2014).
Obstacles that old people with OA might experience are being too weak to perform
physical activities.

Tibial Plateau Fracture With Rehab
A tibial plateau fracture is a break in the top of the bone that forms the bottom of
the knee joint (tibia or shin bone). The lower end of the thigh bone (femur) forms

South And Central Afric An Undeveloped Continent

reasons Africa grew out to be this way. In this period, there were many different
types of currency in Africa; unlike in other parts of the world where one type of
currency was more used than others. For this study have chosen four different types
of currency, which are cloth, cowries, gold and slaves. We will see how their nature
influenced the economy of precolonial Africa. The conclusion reached is that the
nature of the currencies had a great impact in the underdevelopment, their nature
being especially relevant when the external trade started, because of the contrast
between hard currencies with the African currencies, provoking the latter to become

There are difficulties in the study of this topic. The first one is the view of the
historiography. Many economist and historians have considered Africa to be
underdeveloped even before the colonialism period, which recent studies have
proved to be wrong. Africa had a well developed economic system, where the
monetization of the economy had created a class society . There needs to be more
investigation about this topic, which hopefully will bring some light to this
interesting period in time. Secondly, the lack of primary sources is another
obstacle to the study of this topic, many of the ones available are biased because
they are from a European perspective. However, it is possible to find other material
in archaeology, documents and oral stories. Thirdly, the continent of Africa is huge,
and in its study, we should try to avoid generalizations, because it erases the
particularities of each territory. Therefore, as said, we are going to focus on West
and Central Africa, so the study will be more focused and specific.
There were many different types of currency in precolonial Africa. Among them the
most used ones were cowries, copper, cloth, slaves, gold, silver and salt. Different
areas preferred different kinds of currency, however, their value was recognized in all

The purpose of this study was to understand the college students perceptions of slut
shaming discourse. The research indicated that there was a strong correlation between
cultural expectations and slut shaming. According to the results, the perceptions of
slut shaming are influenced by aspects such as: class, culture, media, gender,
feminism, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality. Overall, college students were found to
be on crossfire of slut shaming discourse on a college campus. It was concluded,
based on the research, the participants have significantly identified with judging a
woman by the way she dresses. It is recommended that further research be devoted to

Political and Economic Effect on Mass Media
PAt the beginning of XXI century communication processes perform an important
role in regulation of state and economic interests. The modern world of information
builds its own priorities, based on new types of opportunities of the media and media
content. Media content are messages produced by mass mediasuch as Internet,
newspapers, magazines, books, video entertainments and television. People have
great opportunities of getting information they need in short time. Mass mediaare
important functions of political literacy of citizens and an important channel of
political communication (Louw,2010). Without Internet, television, newspapers and
magazines, even well educated people can not properly navigate the complex mosaic

The Chinese Government blocked access to Google due to the top popularity
among users (BBCnews, 2002). Political actions between specific countries and
the hostile international relations, which later can be a part of the history, are
important factors that can affect media content. As example might be used an
impact of terrorism on mass media. Terrorism is an action of using violence,
danger to fright or to force usually for political interest ( Seib and Janbek, 2011).
The terrorist attack that killed nearly 3000 people at the World Trade Center and
Pentagon on 11th September 2001 and declaration of the war in Afganistan (BBC,
n.d.) influenced media in a whole world. When George W. Bush blamed Al Qaida
terrorist network created by Osama bin Laden about 9/11 attack ( Seib and Janbek,
2011), the media oozed hatred calling for anti Arab and Muslim people. The word
Jidahist was highlighted in newspapers. As P. Bergen and J. Rowland wrote, the
meaning of the word Jidahist is terrorist associated with or motivated by Al Qaeda
(Bergen amp; Rowland, 2012). Sumbul Ali Karamali in the CNN blog wrote a post
about American Muslim s lives in fear after 9/11 2001 (Ali Kamarali, 2012). These
political historical time and religion prejudice became the main motivation in 2010 to
create a Bollywood movie with the famous actor Shahrukh Khan called My name is
Khan (MNIK, n.d.). This movie is about post
What I Learned During This Counseling And
Communication...
Communication and dialogue can be challenging. I learned a lot about
communication and it s subtleties in COUN 506. During this course I worked on
acquiring basic counseling and communication skills, have an awareness of
multicultural differences, awareness of professional identity and have a basic
understanding of the dynamics in psychotherapy. Each week I was asked to hold
counseling sessions with my peers and other week we taped our counseling session
for review and transcription. During these tapings I was asked to demonstrate
communication and counseling skills learned in this course. I was also expected to
transcribe five minutes of taping as well as submit a reflection paper with my
transcription and tape. In this paper, I will discuss some of the things I learned during
this counseling and communications class. My experience coming into this class,
some of the skills I learned, and a few of the things I found helpful.
Experience
Coming into this counseling course I had little practice in the counseling role with
adults. I was nervous and uncomfortable coming into this class. Knowing that I was
to be analyzed and taped during counseling sessions was the source of my
nervousness and discomfort. My counseling skills were minimal and I was
conscious of the fact that I was a complete novice in the counseling role. I needed to
learn basic therapeutic factors (Young, 2013) and gain practice in order to feel
comfortable in my counseling skills with adults. Furthermore,
The School System Of The United States
Against School
In a progressively more globalized world that necessitates more effective educational
practices, the U.S., once the biggest global force in education, has seen its dominance
slowly slip out, and its educational status fall even lower than that of several third
world countries. The decline experienced in American school system academic
achievement is not as a result of lack of funding, but as a consequence of the overall
educational system watering down. According to Gatto, educating children through
the existing public school system of America is crippling rather than helping them.
From his essay, Against School, it is established that the goal of the whole public
school system is to limit people s intelligence in an attempt to create a society that is
manageable. Gatto continues to state that action is needed to change this situation.
He supports his assertions using current and historical information about the
American school system and his personal experience. After reading his article, one
realizes that most of Gatto s arguments are true. It is true that the American education
system is making the students comfort to the government and society norms, which
is why they are easily bored. This essay s goal will, therefore, be to support John
Gatto s beliefs.
To begin with, Gatto utilizes historical information to question the need for getting an
education using the American public school system. Past occurrences show that
people do not need an education

Mr Bunkers Case Study
Mr Bunkers In the recorded discussion, Mr Ben Bunkers stated that the issues with
the worker stemmed from a personality clash between the worker and another
employee, Liam, who the worker alleges made a threat against him. Mr Bunkers
denied hearing any threats made on that day. Mr Bunkers referred to the worker
feeling that he was the butt of practical jokes , such as being locked outside and
having his car vandalised. He stated that the worker had been happy to let those
incidents slide. Mr Bunkers stated that he had had spoken to the team about the
worker while the worker was not present in an effort to prevent further practical
jokes on the worker. Despite this, he stated that the worker would include himself and
he had told the worker that he could not have it both way . Further, Mr... Show more

He told Liam that he could not talk to him like that in the workplace, which he
believed provoked him. The worker struggled to articulate the precise threat made
against him, but eventually stated that Liam had said I ll bash you, I ll take your
wallet if he left the workplace. He referred further threats but upon be pressed for
details, he stated they were same threats and that he was able to tune them out.
Ultimately, the worker told Liam I can t deal with this , and left to get a manager.
On three occasions, the worker repeated that he was not scared, although he stated
he did not want to be in the room with Liam. He admitted that he hadn t taken Liam
seriously at the time, but upon later reflection he thought that if Liam was with other
people, they could easily jump him outside of the workplace. He considered that he
should have called the police. He continued to interact with Liam for the rest of the
day. He noted that a witness who he identifies as Andrew saw the last of the
The Cersei Lannister Of Privacy Invasion
The Cersei Lannister of Privacy Invasion: An Over Controlling and Oppressive
Watchful Government Presence Online In the television show Game of Thrones,
there exists a world called Westeros and in this world, there lives a woman by the
name of Cersei Lannister. At the end of the most recent season she became queen of
the seven kingdoms amidst much controversy. She rules Westeros with power,
control, and an authoritarian air that commands fear from her subjects. Cersei
Lannister is the epitome of a bully government and will stop at nothing to get
exactly what she wants, even if it means assassinating thousands of innocent people
and causing the death of at least two of her children. This sort of bully behavior
may be entertaining on the television screen but what happens when art imitates life
and the entities that oversee governing our nation turn into the Cersei Lannister s of
the world? Government agencies such as the CIA, FBI, and the NSA are turning
into organizations that actively spy on American citizens and they use the same
sort of scare tactics that Cersei Lannister uses when a certain northern family tries
to get in her way. The CIA, FBI, and the NSA use the information that we post
online, what we like on Facebook, and what we tweet about on Twitter to build a
profile of the American citizen. They have access to our private emails, that may or
may not contain sensitive data, to our credit reports, and our medical records. They

Personal Values And Core Values
V. I am completely aware that having my personal values, core values of the
profession, and my social statuses may have an impact on building a professional
helping relationships in social work practice. 5A. Person Values Having strong
personal values may have an impact on my professional status because not every
client will have those values. This can be negative because it will cause me expect
too much from my clients. Giving them these great expectations that they must
succeed and continue to push through it all, even when it s too hard can be
overwhelming for them. It will make me out to be a sergeant rather than a social
worker, and could potentially push my client away from my services. I wouldn t
want that for my clients, I want to give them my best services. My clients will be
going through hard times and may want to give up, they may not see the need to
be dedicated to improving their life due to all the destruction going on. I
understand that it can be difficult to stay dedicated to something when you don t
have all the needs met in life. Without transportation they can t stay devoted to a
job or any service that requires consistency. Even though they may not believe
dedication or improvement is of value to their life, it will be good for them to see
someone that is dedicated to their needs. A social worker should always be
dedicated to their clients and their needs. Core Values As I continue to develop in
the field of social work the core values of this

exotic sports cars and was the only US based manufacturer. Their major
competition, Ferrari and Lamborghini, took up 75% of the market share. Gerry s
idea was to make a car based off of aerospace technology. They created the V8 twin
turbo which was highly advanced and priced. After selling a total of 13 cars, 45
people were employed. Vector built two other models to increase sell volume and
decrease losses. Vector s Board of Directors composed of 3 individuals, Berry with
a background in real estate; John, a financial consultant, and Vector s CFO; and

Djody sent $220,000 to Vector according to this agreement. Then Gerry revoked
the deal by claiming he was under the impression that his option would only be
used as collateral for the loan and not transferred. Djodi conducted business based
on trust and Gerry broke this trust for Vector. He would no longer invest in the
company, but keep Dorpi on the board to protect his previous investments. In 1992
the company s taxes were not paid in time which caused some debate about
disclosures in the 10 K. Also, after hosting a babysitter it was imminent that Gerry
was furnishing his own home with company expenses. They decided to call a
meeting where Gerry was going to be formally asked to resign on March 22, 1993.
If he declined he would be fired by the board. When the day of the meeting arrived
Gerry Wiegert locked himself inside Vector headquarters. The Board of Directors
consisted primarily of Gerry Wiegert, John Pope, and Barry Rosengrant. Gerry was
the President, so it was typical for him to be a part of the board. John Pope was a
financial consultant; therefore, he was adequate to be the financially literate
person on the board. Barry was in real estate, but he was a consultant of Vector Car
which gave him some knowledge of the company. Dan Harnett and George Fencl
were also a part of the board for some point of time; they also had adequate
knowledge to be capable additions to the board with their knowledge of law and

Wine Culture Means A Lot
Wine culture means a lot to people. People can suspend their secular identities
throughout the bottle opening, rituals, wine festivals, wine tastings (Fuller, R. 1996).
Wine has been called a chemical symphony , bottled poetry and a capture sunshine
(Becker 1979)
To start with, wine is produced only once a year, in the fall, when the grapes are
ripen. Grapes contain yeast and when these are compressed into a pot for a period of
time, then yeast ferments sugar in the juice into alcohol and Carbon Dioxide. A few
days later, wine is produced (Stefan, K. 2002)

The first archaeological traces, showing that wine have been made from
domesticated vines comes from a pottery jar. The first clay jars were excavated at
the Neolithic site of Hajji Firuz Tepe (5400 5000 B.C.) in the northern Zagros
Mountains. (Kenneth, F. Connee, R. 2000)

During the Early Bronze Age, there was an establishment of a successful
winemaking industry in the Nile Delta, in Egypt and Palestine, by at least Dynasty
3 (ca. 2700 B.C.), the beginning of the Old Kingdom period. Wine in Egypt was
considered a beverage (drink) for the wealthy people, while beer and water were
consumed by the poorest people, until the coming of the Greeks in the Hellenistic
period (Brothwell, D. and Brothwell, P. 1998). Evidence of winemaking in Egypt,
were found on tomb walls picturizing winemaking scenes and the accompanying

end of the Old Kingdom, five wines all probably made in the Delta constitute a
canonical set of provisions, for the afterlife.
Amphorae were the so called jars, used for storing and transportation of wine. The
discovery of these amphorae in the tombs of Pharaohs at Abydos and those of their
families at Saqqara, confirmed the use of the wine since the ancient years
Reputation, Reputations, And Importanced By William...
Reputations
The reputations as described by William Shakespeare are the immortal part of one s
self. It is also almost all the time based on the person s actions and doings. Take this
quote for an example: It takes twenty years to build a reputation and five minutes to
ruin it. If you think about that, you will do things differently Warren Buffett.
I think now we can all easily agree on what this quote says. Thus, it is believed that
people with good reputations have it better in life than the ones who have bad
reputations. Now, talking about reputations in general, we can safely say that
besides being judged based on what your reputation says about you, it can as well
affect job opportunities, having a life partner and the chances of making friends can
decrease or increase whether in a positive or a negative way. Meanwhile when talking
about reputations in particular it can mean more than just making friends . Some
famous historical figure s reputations precede them in their life and death. You will
be introduced to the very famous figure of the dictatorial Josef Stalin. ... Show more

Was he really good or bad? Was his reputation shaped by the bloody nature of his
leadership and him considered as a war leader? Other famous historical figure s
reputations such as Cleopatra, Saddam Hussein, and Adolf Hitler are shaped by how
the people viewed them, some did not like them and others surprisingly loved them
and still love them until our day, and Stalin of course is one of them. We can easily
figure out how and why Stalin is a myth. I will be pointing out the obvious by
saying that the first metro line of Moscow was constructed under his rule, he won
the vicious was against The Germans with a great leader as Hitler himself and
finally winning The Great Patriotic War. Not forgetting to mention that he was seen
as a creator of a new society as a result of industrialization and economic

To Pin A Butterfly Analysis
For my album review, I chose To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar. It was
released in 2015 as the follow up to his critically acclaimed debut studio album, Good
Kid, M.A.A.D. City. The album exhibits a more socially conscious style of rap than
many other contemporary rappers. The album deals with many heavy subject matters
such as institutionalized racism, police brutality, colorism, and commercialism. The
album is heavily influenced by jazz and funk. It samples various artists throughout the
track list. King Kunta samples James Brown s The Payback and Ahmad s We Want
the Funk. Furthermore, artists involved in the Los Angeles jazz scene played
instruments for the various songs on the album. These artists include Thundercat and

Later, this poem is extrapolated on in the album s final track, Mortal Man. It turns
out the poem heard throughout the album is actually the intro to an even longer
poem. The excerpt deals with his rise to fame and the additional problems it
brought. During the making of the album, he evidently felt that he had been using
his newfound fame for the wrong purposes. By mid poem, he was in a hotel room
contemplating suicide. At the end of the poem he rejects both suicide and the
appeal of Lucy, a reference to Lucifer. Lucy is referenced throughout the album and
the way he permeates through our culture through greed, lust, and pride. Certain
songs on the album deal with certain parts of the poem. For Sale in particular deals
with the appeal of Lucy. The track u chronicles the point in which he was in a hotel
room contemplating suicide. Momma references when Kendrick returns home to
Compton. The final track, Mortal Man , ties the messages and themes of the album
together. After the initial song fades out, he reads the full poem that is read
throughout the album in excerpts. At the end he addresses it to Tupac. The song
samples an interview from when he was still alive in order to make it seem like
Kendrick and Tupac are having a conversation. At the end of the conversation
Kendrick reads yet another poem entitled To Pimp a Butterfly. It reads: The
caterpillar is a prisoner to the streets that conceived

Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper

  • 1. Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper Writing a "Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper" can be a challenging task that requires careful consideration, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the subjects being compared. The difficulty lies not only in gathering relevant information but also in presenting it coherently and persuasively. Firstly, selecting suitable subjects for comparison is crucial. Identifying two topics that share similarities and differences, yet are substantial enough to provide meaningful content, can be a daunting process. Once chosen, delving into extensive research is necessary to gather enough data to support your points effectively. Organizing the essay poses another challenge. Establishing a clear structure and deciding on the most suitable method of comparison—whether it be point-by-point or block style—requires thoughtful planning. Each paragraph must contribute to the overall argument while maintaining a logical flow. Additionally, maintaining a balance between the comparison and contrast aspects can be tricky. It's essential to provide a fair assessment of both subjects, avoiding bias and ensuring that the essay doesn't lean heavily towards one side. Crafting a compelling thesis statement is another hurdle. This statement should encapsulate the main argument and guide the reader through the essay. Ensuring that it reflects the nuanced relationship between the compared subjects adds an extra layer of complexity. Moreover, the essay's language and tone need to be precise and academic. Striking the right balance between formality and engaging prose is essential for keeping the reader's interest while conveying a scholarly approach. In conclusion, composing a "Comparison Contrast Essay Example Paper" involves navigating through the intricacies of topic selection, research, organization, balance, thesis formulation, and writing style. It demands a meticulous approach to detail and a commitment to presenting a well- rounded analysis. For those who find such tasks overwhelming, it's worth noting that HelpWriting.net offers services that extend beyond mere examples. • 2. The Cleveland Elementary School Shooting The Cleveland Elementary School Shooting, 1989 Some refer to it as The Slaughter in a School Yard, The Stockton Massacre, and others as The Cleveland Elementary School Shooting. Something as horrifying as someone shooting down innocent children playing at recesses on school grounds was never expected here in the United States of America. Although there was past cases of school shootings, this was the first shooting to be televised on national television of its magnitude (Taining, P et al., 2014). A mass murderer is defined as someone who slaughters many people at one time. This particular incident unfortunately was not the slaughter of people, but it was children. It happened around 11:40 AM on January 17th, 1989 in Stockton, California. A man by the name of Patrick Edward Purdy opened fire on children ages six through nine playing at recess on school grounds of Cleveland Elementary School. This tragic case brought questions to people everywhere in our nation as to why it was so easy for a mentally unstable individual such as Patrick Purdy to enter a gun store and purchase a semiautomatic weapon ( Slaughter in a, 2001). Patrick Edward Purdy was born November 10, 1964 in Fort Lewis Washington. His parents divorced at age two. He is described as an adolescent as quiet but unable to cope with anything. He had a troubled relationship with his mother and was made to leave his mother s home after an altercation between the two resulting in him hitting her. He
  • 3. Politics And History Through An Alternative Path For Self... Akhil Subramanian Salc 20200 29 May 2008 361411 Politics and history through an alternative path to self rule Lagaan (2001), through the setting of Hindi cinema and the popular appeal of cricket, charts an alternative history of India, from the colonised past of 1893 to an ideal post colonial future. Using elements of pop culture, the director Ashutosh Gowarikar transforms the singularity of Champaneer s struggle against triple lagaan, into a microcosm of an Indian nation s ideal path toward self rule. Notably, this self rule is ideologically centred ex ante on Gandhi s vision of self sufficient village units, as mentioned in Hind Swaraj . In doing so, Gowarikar is able to (a) tell the historical tale of colonial rule and oppression in India, and (b) through dealing with Champaneer s internal struggles toward becoming a self sufficient village unit, highlight current thorny issues of Indian politics. Gowarikar uses the popularity of cricket in India as a catalyst for a nationalistic struggle. Although the wager is based on the amelioration of economic conditions for Champaneer (namely triple lagaan versus no lagaan), the bet transforms into a struggle for independence and self rule through the medium of cricket. To the audience, cricket gives this marginalised, hitherto unknown village a (notably non violent) medium with which they can resist colonial oppression. While the villagers fight for the right to pay no tax for three years, the audience is invited to interpret
  • 4. Essay on My Lai Massacre My Lai Massacre Soldiers are trained to always follow orders, and to never question orders. But that belief is somewhat illogical. Soldier s are to obey any lawful order given. But the training involved, the often chaotic nature of battle, and the need to follow authority to maintain survival can lead to a very blurred vision of what is right or wrong. One s animalistic instincts may take over. Sometimes there are such situations when you ve stepped over the line. Such as the horrendous act that took place on March 16, 1968 in the village of Son My. The Quang Ngai Province, more than any other province in South Viet Nam, was suspected by the United States military officials as being a Viet Cong stronghold. Army intelligence... A few weeks later on March fourteenth, a small squad from Charlie Company ran into another booby trap, this time killing a popular sergeant, blinding on GI, and wounding many others. The soldiers of Charlie Company became demoralized as they lost nearly one third of their troop in two months. Many in the company had given in to an easy pattern of violence. Prisoners were systematically beaten, unarmed civilians sometimes murdered, whole villages burned, and wells poisoned. Rapes were not uncommon. Many military leaders encouraged and rewarded kills in an effort to produce impressive body counts that could be reported to Saigon as an indication of progress. On March 16, 1968. Charlie Company was ordered to enter the Hamlet of My Lai to clear out the Viet Cong s forty eighth battalion that was believed to be in the vicinity. The soldier s mission would be to engage the forty eighth battalion and destroy the village of My Lai. The attack was to begin at seven thirty in the morning. Military leaders believed the women and children would be out of the village heading for the local market by this time, leaving only the Viet Cong. The soldiers were ordered to explode brick homes, set fires to thatch homes, shoot livestock, poison wells, and destroy the enemy. That plan was that Lieutenant Calley would come down from the
  • 5. The Victorian Time Period Many Victorians thought they were living in a time of great change. Queen Victoria s long reign occurred during political and social stability. But this stability was established before Victoria and most of her subjects were even born. Britain was free of war between Napoleon s defeat in 1815 and World War I in 1914. While in power, Victoria was queen empress of over 200 million people not living in Great Britain. At the same time the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century was expanding. New towns, goods, wealth and jobs for those that were climbing through the middle class. Middle class and working class politicians were put into power, allowing all to have a say while still remaining a monarchy. Thomas Babington Macaulay helped show the middle class attitude of the time government, history, and civilization. To Macaulay, history was related to progress and progress was defined as actual improvements that the person could physically see or touch. Macaulay also wanted the streets of London to be cleaned up, paved, lighted, and watched over by an actual police force. He had the idea of splitting areas based on wealth, so the poor did not bother the wealthier. Although all did not agree with Macaulay, many of those like him did agree. The first decade Victoria was in power was known as the Hungry Forties . She came into power the very first year of a depression that left 1.5 million workers and their families on a type of relief. When the government decided to check out
  • 6. The Main Purpose Of Alcoholic Anonymous Essay The main purpose of Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A.) is to help members keep an open mind on the subject and can stay sober. Using the 12 steps designed by A.A. assists people to break through their denial and to see the problems alcohol has caused in their lives. The Twelve Steps are the core of A.A s program of recovery from alcoholism. They are based on the trial and error experience of A.A s early members and have worked for millions of alcoholics since then. In recent years, there are about 1.2 million people who belong to one of A.A. s 55,000 meeting groups in the United States. On October 9 2016, after the clinical, I attended the A.A meeting located at St. Patrick s Roman Catholic Church 9511 4th Ave Brooklyn. The open meeting started at 4pm and was held with approximately 35 to 40 attendees for one hour. The room was located at the basement of the building but it was clean, cozy and bright. There were many chairs and one big C shape desk in the front so some people could be sitting around the table while most of people were sitting behind the table. One interesting thing was that there was a person who translated the entire meeting in sign language for the deaf so the meeting looked more formal and organized. Unlike my imagination that people would have unkempt, addicting appearances, and borderline offensive hygiene, the majority of the members had clean and nice looking, well kempt, and healthy appearances. As soon as we entered the room, one woman welcomed us and

  • 10. The Theory Of Management Theory And Practice Conrad Hilton Sr. once said Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes but they don t quit (Our Hospitality Leaders, 2013). Conrad Hilton attributes his success in business to his management philosophy of treating people fairly. Conrad was a people oriented person, hiring and empowering his managers to make important decisions for the hotel. He encouraged and supported his employees to provide excellent service for the travelers and customers staying, and doing business in the hotel. This philosophy can also serve as a simplistic way of defining management: organizing and coordinating daily business activities to achieve organizational goals. Since the early 1900 s several methodologies have been used to explain the nuts and bolts , and processes of management theory and practice. Throughout the evolutionary process of management theory and practice four major schools and approaches have been identified: the classical approach, the behavioral approach, the management science approach, and contemporary approach. The classical approach to management is the oldest school of thought dating back to the late 1890 s and losing favor by the 1940 s. The contributions to the classic school of management included increasing productivity of the organization, and that of the worker, as well as providing the framework for management of diverse organizations. This methodology was a marriage of scientific, administrative, and

He and A Jazz-Age Clerk In He by Katherine Anne Porter and A Jazz Age Clerk by James Thomas Farrell, two characters who struggle with the aspects of poverty express the significance of how people view them in their lives; their primary concern is what people say and think of them. After all, it is Mrs. Whipple s goal to make sure that people understand that her family, including Him, is nothing more than an ordinary family. Sadly, Mrs. Whipple s excessive concern about what others think or say, her self consciousness, does not allow her to focus on what really is important: her family, but more specifically, Him. She finally realized that the way she treated her son was wrong; towards the end, she at last opens her eyes and sees the world from His perspective, the cruel, uncaring, and lonely perspective: Whatever it was, Mrs. Whipple couldn t bear to think of it. She began to cry, frightfully, and wrapped her arms tight around Him. His head rolled on her shoulder: she had loved Him as much as she possibly could, there were Adna and Emly who had to be thought of too, there was nothing she could do to make up to Him for His life. The poets all choose to build their stories around this subject while each choose to approach this from different perspectives and stances. La Belle Dame sans Merci focuses on the idea of unreciprocated love; reflecting William Keat s personal feud against the pains of love. The ballad adopts a unique stanza structure that shortens the last line of every quatrain which creates an abrupt change in rhythm, helping keep the reader focused. The result is the first three lines of every quatrain being written in Iambic tetrameter in which a line contains four feet, with the stress falling upon the first syllable in each pair as opposed to the Iambic dimeter in the fourth line which contains two feet with the stress falling upon the first syllable in each pair for instance, Fast withereth too. , in line 12 . This is intended to help enhance the flow of the poem by forcing the reader to conform to the rhythm. The differentiation in the fourth line is used by Keats to create a feeling of emptiness and suspense. This is used by Keats to emphasize the lovesick and sore feelings of the knight to the reader. In contrast, Robert Browning s My Last Duchess is written in the form of a monologue through Iambic Pentameter. The monologue is one entity divided only by the rhyming couplets. However, the flow and rhyme is partially sacrificed because of there is so much enjambment. Browning uses this format in order to emphasize the themes presented. Modern Political Campaigns Modern political campaigns, according to the political science community, are known to not be the only external influence on both public opinion and candidate support during presidential elections in the United States. Whether campaigns hold a significant impact on election outcomes or if they influence public opinion is a debate that continues. Political scientists are currently challenged, when it comes to campaigns, with the ability to measure their type and the spectrum of their influence on society. The universal consensus held today acknowledges that at least a correlation exists between campaigns and public opinion and is supported by historical trends and a political process composed of liberal democratic values. A campaign s specific impact on the political process, separate from external variables, is a relationship that has been extensively researched by political scientists and could provide insight on creating an efficient strategy to achieve political power. Election candidates and their teams have strategically constructed their campaigns using this existing knowledge; and have adapted to recent phenomenon including the rise of globalization, increased political awareness, and a higher emphasis on external influences. These conditions have created an environment where the transmission of information on issues and characteristics, especially as they pertain to the candidate, can manipulate the momentum of a campaign and ultimately a vote. These external

Orwell wants to show that if a leader is always allowed to do whatever he wants, or if he is not kept in check, the leader will start to get corrupted.. This is a vicious cycle as the more power the leaders amass, the more corrupted they become. The more corrupted they become, the more power they amass. This sub theme is treated carefully and crafted well by George Orwell as after all, it is one of the most important ideas Orwell is trying to convey in the book. The 7 commandments were created by Orwell so that the reader would be able to clearly see the gradual corruption in the pigs as the got more powerful. Orwell also crafted many incidents into the story where the reader would be able to catch a glimpse of the pigs corruption. One example of such an incident is when the pigs steal the milk and apples. Another incident is the end scene, where there was no way the animals could tell which was pig and which was man. The issue that really caught my attention was TexasOccupations Code, section 157.011 (b 1) which deals with APRN restrictions on writing prescriptions for Schedule two controlled substances. The TNA website states: Texas Occupations Code, Section 157.0511 (b 1) states that an APRN may prescribe Schedule IIs in a hospital. Secondly, the lack of primary sources is another obstacle to the study of this topic, many of the ones available are biased because they are from a European perspective. However, it is possible to find other material in archaeology, documents and oral stories. Thirdly, the continent of Africa is huge, and in its study, we should try to avoid generalizations, because it erases the particularities of each territory. Therefore, as said, we are going to focus on West and Central Africa, so the study will be more focused and specific. There were many different types of currency in precolonial Africa. Among them the most used ones were cowries, copper, cloth, slaves, gold, silver and salt. Different areas preferred different kinds of currency, however, their value was recognized in all West Africa. The multiplicity of currency indicates a lack of centralization, as well as many connections between zones. One important characteristic

The modern world of information builds its own priorities, based on new types of opportunities of the media and media content. People have great opportunities of getting information they need in short time. Political actions between specific countries and the hostile international relations, which later can be a part of the history, are important factors that can affect media content. As example might be used an impact of terrorism on mass media. Terrorism is an action of using violence, danger to fright or to force usually for political interest ( Seib and Janbek, 2011). The terrorist attack that killed nearly 3000 people at the World Trade Center and Pentagon on 11th September 2001 and declaration of the war in Afganistan (BBC, n.d.) influenced media in a whole world. When George W. Bush blamed Al Qaida terrorist network created by Osama bin Laden about 9/11 attack ( Seib and Janbek, 2011), the media oozed hatred calling for anti Arab and Muslim people. The word Jidahist was highlighted in newspapers. As P. Bergen and J. Rowland wrote, the meaning of the word Jidahist is terrorist associated with or motivated by Al Qaeda (Bergen amp; Rowland, 2012). Sumbul Ali Karamali in the CNN blog wrote a post about American Muslim s lives in fear after 9/11 2001 (Ali Kamarali, 2012). During this course I worked on acquiring basic counseling and communication skills, have an awareness of multicultural differences, awareness of professional identity and have a basic understanding of the dynamics in psychotherapy. Each week I was asked to hold counseling sessions with my peers and other week we taped our counseling session for review and transcription. During these tapings I was asked to demonstrate communication and counseling skills learned in this course. I was also expected to transcribe five minutes of taping as well as submit a reflection paper with my transcription and tape. In this paper, I will discuss some of the things I learned during this counseling and communications class. My experience coming into this class, some of the skills I learned, and a few of the things I found helpful. Experience Coming into this counseling course I had little practice in the counseling role with adults. I was nervous and uncomfortable coming into this class. Knowing that I was to be analyzed and taped during counseling sessions was the source of my nervousness and discomfort. My counseling skills were minimal and I was conscious of the fact that I was a complete novice in the counseling role. I needed to learn basic therapeutic factors (Young, 2013) and gain practice in order to feel comfortable in my counseling skills with adults. Furthermore,

The School System Of The United States Against School In a progressively more globalized world that necessitates more effective educational practices, the U.S., once the biggest global force in education, has seen its dominance slowly slip out, and its educational status fall even lower than that of several third world countries. The decline experienced in American school system academic achievement is not as a result of lack of funding, but as a consequence of the overall educational system watering down. According to Gatto, educating children through the existing public school system of America is crippling rather than helping them. From his essay, Against School, it is established that the goal of the whole public school system is to limit people s intelligence in an attempt to create a society that is manageable. Gatto continues to state that action is needed to change this situation. He supports his assertions using current and historical information about the American school system and his personal experience. After reading his article, one realizes that most of Gatto s arguments are true. It is true that the American education system is making the students comfort to the government and society norms, which is why they are easily bored. This essay s goal will, therefore, be to support John Gatto s beliefs. To begin with, Gatto utilizes historical information to question the need for getting an education using the American public school system. Past occurrences show that people do not need an education

This can be negative because it will cause me expect too much from my clients. Giving them these great expectations that they must succeed and continue to push through it all, even when it s too hard can be overwhelming for them. It will make me out to be a sergeant rather than a social worker, and could potentially push my client away from my services. I wouldn t want that for my clients, I want to give them my best services. My clients will be going through hard times and may want to give up, they may not see the need to be dedicated to improving their life due to all the destruction going on. I understand that it can be difficult to stay dedicated to something when you don t have all the needs met in life. Without transportation they can t stay devoted to a job or any service that requires consistency. Even though they may not believe dedication or improvement is of value to their life, it will be good for them to see someone that is dedicated to their needs. A social worker should always be dedicated to their clients and their needs. Core Values As I continue to develop in the field of social work the core values of this
