Communication is defined as the transfer of information from a sender to a receiver, with the understanding that there are various types of communication including verbal (oral and written) and nonverbal (body language, gestures, etc.). Effective communication is important for organizations to achieve common goals and objectives by linking people, developing plans, organizing resources, and motivating individuals. However, there are also various barriers that can interfere with effective communication such as faulty planning, semantic issues, status effects, poor expression or listening, and distractions. Building relationships is key to communication and can be done by paying attention, valuing others, understanding their perspective, following up, and listening actively.
