How Do You Get Students To Read?

“The more kids read, the better readers they become”
James Patterson – www.readkiddoread.com
Help Students and Teachers Select Books
That They Will Grab Their Attention…

…Bridge The Gap and Connect Students
To More Challenging Materials
Sports Books

Pairing biographies on sports figures and short novels on
the same subject helps capture the interest and improve
reading comprehension of the student. Using this method fulfills
the student’s leisure and required reading for class.

!
Anime Manga and Graphic Novels
These books are effective because they effectively combine print and visual literacy
in a mutually complimentary manner. In addition they support vocabulary
development, help improve reading comprehension and motivate kids to read.
Mystery and Suspense Books
Reluctant readers begin reading Hi-Low books and
eventually progress to reading YA and adult books
Street Literature/Urban Fiction
These books are very popular with students because they serve as
real life cautionary tales. The stories are interesting, fast paced
and reflect life in urban/inner city enclaves.
