A number of teacher resource requests were fulfilled and classes were signed up for a free math website trial. A reference wiki was distributed and the media center website was remodeled. Future plans include collaborating on units, professional development on wikis, and rearranging the non-fiction section.

Research shows that children, on average, lose one month of reading skills over the summer. A major contributing cause for this slide is that many children simply don’t have regular access to books during the summer months. As a result, when kids return to school in September, teachers find themselves re-teaching skills and concepts that students had mastered the previous spring. Our team partnered with Hedberg Public Library in order to help them expand their outreach efforts to students in the summer. Our project was to find and repurpose a vehicle into a bookmobile; the library would then sustain the project after our graduation. Research revealed that many cities use repurposed buses as their bookmobile vehicle of choice. However, we were able to get a decommissioned ambulance donated from the City of Janesville Fire Department at no cost. Our team worked to transform it with bookshelves and, with the help of Fetch Graphics and our sponsors, a wrap for the outside of the vehicle. We also coordinated a book drive to collect books for the project. After our presentation today, we will turn the bookmobile over to Hedberg Public Library. Librarians are increasingly focused on incorporating outreach, engagement, collaboration, and innovation into everyday tasks such as programming, collection development, instruction, and reference support. Many libraries are turning their attention to what is happening outside of their spaces to improve services and resources inside their spaces. Some institutions are moving away from traditional models of reference, instruction, and collection development and toward creating active mobile spaces where communities can come together to collectively produce, curate, and consume information.
The Rutgers University Art Library looks outside its walls to connect with the local campus and New Brunswick communities with the goal of providing innovative programming that engages a wide range of patrons while highlighting the library’s collections and local scholarly research.
This paper will look at outreach and engagement and examine how these activities affect collection development and highlight library collections. Six case studies from the Rutgers University Libraries will be used as examples: The Rutgers Art Library Exhibition Spaces (RALES), the Rutgers University Libraries Coloring initiatives, button-making, LEGO play, an Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, and Banned Books Week.

The school library, known as "The Hub" was praised by the judges for giving students "ownership of their own space and their own place. Funky furnishings, a bold colour scheme, creative space planning, natural and artificial lighting, effective acoustics and ever changing, motivating signage and graphics make The Hub a destination like no other."
Kevin Crossley Holland, author and chair of the SLA, in praising the finalists for the awards said: "Make no mistake about it! School libraries and school librarians are under real pressure – political apathy, cuts in their budgets, threats of redundancy, status within their schools. But all over the country, individual librarians are doing imaginative and valiant and, frankly, quite crucial work, inspiring a love of reading within their schools and communities. Enatai Elementary Library- January 2013
Karinn Figdore, the new librarian at Enatai Elementary, gave a presentation to the PTSA about the current state of the school library and her vision for improvement. She discussed research showing school libraries positively impact test scores. Enatai's collection is below state recommendations with only 15 books per student and many books over 14 years old. Figdore's goals are to increase the annual budget to $14,000-$17,000 to add new materials each year and modernize the collection. She asked parents to help by donating books or funds to improve the quality and quantity of resources available to students.

Enatai Elementary Library- January 2013
Karinn Figdore, the new librarian at Enatai Elementary, gave a presentation to the PTSA about the current state of the school library and her vision for improvement. She discussed research showing school libraries positively impact test scores. Enatai's collection is below state recommendations with only 15 books per student and many books over 14 years old. Figdore's goals are to increase the annual budget to $14,000-$17,000 to add new materials each year and modernize the collection. She asked parents to help by donating books or funds to improve the quality and quantity of resources available to students.

The Prescott Library 2011-2012 report summarized the library's activities and initiatives over the school year in 3 main points:
1) The librarian attended a national conference and learned about new resources, four iPads were added for student/faculty use, and one-on-one research assistance was provided to 10th graders.
2) Over 3,000 items were circulated, hundreds of print and e-books were added, and a weeding project removed over 900 items from the collection.
3) Statistical highlights included 292 class sessions, over 12,000 hits on subject research guides, and goals for the next year including expanding e-reading options and database evaluation.

2010 september montly report
The ARHS Library renewed subscriptions to several research databases and will continue providing others through the Washington State library system. It was also awarded a grant to support students' completion of a required history class project by providing primary and secondary sources as well as research guides. The library hosted orientations for 9th graders and held the first meeting of the book club while creating additional book lists and displays. It also hosted a visit from a Congressman to discuss education issues.

We know that many students have difficulties meeting faculty expectations for college-level research. Basic search strategies, critical thinking and evaluation skills are often lacking. Increased dialogue between academic librarians, school librarians and teaching faculty could begin to address some of these problems in a proactive manner. This presentation is a small step in that direction. Chris Sweet, Information Literacy Librarian at Illinois Wesleyan University, will introduce this topic from an academic librarian’s perspective. Dana Convery, English and Literature instructor at Prairie Central High School, will discuss high school research from the trenches. What research skills are being taught in the classroom? What role do Illinois Learning Standards play? What barriers are holding high school teachers and librarians back? Finally, an Illinois Wesleyan student will give us insights on his/her personal transition from high school to college researcher.
