,discomfort,tension & anxiety OR Comfort is
defined as a contented enjoyment in physical &
mental well being, freedom from pain or
trouble”.
• Pain.
• Restriction of movement due to weakness.
• Wrinkled, soiled and wet sheet.
• Lack of exercise .
• Tempreture extreme.
• Too bright light and glares.
• Fear and anxiety due to illness.
• Insecurity feelings.
• Lack of sleep.
Mechanical services or comfort device- are invented
articals which would add to comfort of patient when in
appropriate manner.these devices relieve the discomfort
and help in maintaining correct posture.

• Sand bags
• Air matresses
• Rings
• Bed cradle
• Bed blocks
• Air cushion
• Pillows are used to give
comfortable position to
patient these are the
mostly use to support
various part of body .
• To maintain a proper body aligment.
• To support body parts.
• Help to reduce pressure .
• It is a mechanical device
which provides a
suitable support and rest
for the back of the
patient in sitting
position.
• To support a back.
• To facilitate easy breathing .
• It is given is specially for heart patient and asthma
patient even in post opreative period .
• Hand rolls are made of
clothes that roll into a
cylinder about 4-5
inches long and 2-3
inches in diameter and
stiffed firmly.
• To keep the fingers free being held tight first .
• In case of paralysis.
• To give support fracture of the femure or hip
surgery .

device used to give rest
to feet. sand bags or
foot board may be used.
• To maintain the normal position of feet .

used to immobilize part.

thin and obese patient
and those who are prone
to get pressure sore. it
help in equal distriution
of the pressure exerted
on the body.
• To improve circulation.
• To provide comfort.
• To prevent pressure sore .
• Use for very thin and obese patient.
• Air cushion are made of
rubber it place under the
hips and in such way
the valve is on one side
and not in contact with
the body .
• To lift the hip form the bed to prevent the bed sore .
• To improve circulation .
• These are widely in size
and material. these
wooden metal and
electronic. this is use for
take of the wight of top
bedding .
• To prevent the top cloth if coming in contact with
the patient especially with the burn patient.
• To apply heat in case of drying plaster casts.
• This are made up of
wood, it can be low or
high. these are place
under the foot of the bed
for various reasons.
• To prevent shock.
• To aresst haemorrhage.
• To retain enema.
• After spinal anesthesia.
• To provide traction.
• They are round in shape
and made up of rubber,
cloth. These can be
inflated with air these
are used to take of the
body weight .
• To relive pressure on certain part of the body.
• To promote comfort to client .

Comfort Devices

  • 2. “Comfort is a state of freedom from pain ,discomfort,tension & anxiety OR Comfort is defined as a contented enjoyment in physical & mental well being, freedom from pain or trouble”.
  • 3. • Pain. • Restriction of movement due to weakness. • Wrinkled, soiled and wet sheet. • Lack of exercise . • Tempreture extreme. • Too bright light and glares. • Fear and anxiety due to illness. • Insecurity feelings. • Lack of sleep.
  • 4. Mechanical services or comfort device- are invented articals which would add to comfort of patient when in appropriate manner.these devices relieve the discomfort and help in maintaining correct posture.
  • 5. • Pillow • Back rest • Hand rolls • Foot rest • Sand bags • Air matresses • Rings • Bed cradle • Bed blocks • Air cushion
  • 6. • Pillows are used to give comfortable position to patient these are the mostly use to support various part of body .
  • 7. • To maintain a proper body aligment. • To support body parts. • Help to reduce pressure .
  • 8. • It is a mechanical device which provides a suitable support and rest for the back of the patient in sitting position.
  • 9. • To support a back. • To facilitate easy breathing . • It is given is specially for heart patient and asthma patient even in post opreative period .
  • 10. • Hand rolls are made of clothes that roll into a cylinder about 4-5 inches long and 2-3 inches in diameter and stiffed firmly.
  • 11. • To keep the fingers free being held tight first . • In case of paralysis. • To give support fracture of the femure or hip surgery .
  • 12. • These are mechanical device used to give rest to feet. sand bags or foot board may be used.
  • 13. • To maintain the normal position of feet . • To promote comfort . • To prevent foot drop.
  • 14. • These are canvas rubber and plastic bags filled with sands. these are used to immobilize part.
  • 15. • To relive discomfort. • To support the body . • Immobilize the body part . • Support to fractured bone. • To prevent foot drop and wrist drop.
  • 16. • This are use for very thin and obese patient and those who are prone to get pressure sore. it help in equal distriution of the pressure exerted on the body.
  • 17. • To improve circulation. • To provide comfort. • To prevent pressure sore . • Use for very thin and obese patient.
  • 18. • Air cushion are made of rubber it place under the hips and in such way the valve is on one side and not in contact with the body .
  • 19. • To lift the hip form the bed to prevent the bed sore . • To improve circulation .
  • 20. • These are widely in size and material. these wooden metal and electronic. this is use for take of the wight of top bedding .
  • 21. • To prevent the top cloth if coming in contact with the patient especially with the burn patient. • To apply heat in case of drying plaster casts.
  • 22. • This are made up of wood, it can be low or high. these are place under the foot of the bed for various reasons.
  • 23. • To prevent shock. • To aresst haemorrhage. • To retain enema. • After spinal anesthesia. • To provide traction.
  • 24. • They are round in shape and made up of rubber, cloth. These can be inflated with air these are used to take of the body weight .
  • 25. • To relive pressure on certain part of the body. • To promote comfort to client .
