This portfolio document contains summaries of 14 design projects Deon Miller completed for a communication design course. Brochure

Description: A trifold Chinese resteraunt menu.
Objective: To create a folding brochure.
Process:
In our town, we have a new chinese resteraunt that needed
some help with their menu. One of the most difficult
processes was actually getting the photos for the menu. I
used a combination of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDe-
sign to complete this design. I used Photoshop to create
the tri-photos in the waves, and created the full design in
InDesign and the logo in Adobe Illustrator.

Description: Webpage for a neighbor
Objective: To create a webpage mockup
Process:
I used Adobe Photoshop to edit the photos and create the
folder of layers for header, body and footer. We did this
in a way that the coders would have each section and the
elements in that were in that section to make it easier for
them to code the page. I used Illustrator to create the
frame work and then used the frame to create the actual
page. The final design was completed in Photoshop.

Description: A Prezi presentation
Objective: To create a presentation using Prezi
Process:
This was one of my favorite projects. I was able to use all
kinds of media with this presentation including: video, music
and pictures. The presentation was done on Prezi, which is a
multimedia slide creator, many of the graphics like the circle
and brakets came from Prezi. The photos were all brought in
using Google and the remaining items were edited in Illustra-
tor. This project shows how visual communication is essen-
tial to any business.

Description: To code a webpage using HTML and CSS
Objective: To create a webpage using our business identity
Process:
For this project, I used a logo and company which I had
previously created and made a web page using HTML and
CSS. I was given the skeleton of the page in HTML but had
to add the CSS to create an interesting design. I created the
background in Photshop, and used Google Fonts to make
sure the fonts would be displayed online. I used Illustrator to
choose the colors and create an outline for the webpage.

Description: A infographic about autsism in children
Objective: To create a infographic about any topic.
Process:
For the most part, I used Adobe Illustrator, with the ex-
ception of the photo, which I modified in Photoshop. All
of the graphics and icons were created in Adobe Illustra-
tor. I used many tools with this project including, the pen
tool and anchor point tool which I used to create my little
men, and the shapes tool to create the icon and part of
the final graphic. I also used Adobe kuler to create a more
interesting color scheme.

Description: The logos that I created for my company
Objective: To create multiple logos for a company
Process:
For the logo, we created a few designs using Illustrator
and then tested out our ideas with our classmates and also
with our friends. I was able to post my designs on social
media, Facebook, and got excellent feedback. I learned
that my friends love to give their opinion. I later added the
light turquoise background, on the logo and other
business identity projects. The overall favorite from the
research was 2 b.

Description: The letterhead and card for our business
Objective: To create a business letterhead and card.
Process:
Using InDesign and Illustrator, our class was to create a
business card and a letterhead for the company that we had
created a logo for. In Photoshop I learned about opacity and
the use of it in design. I pulled the logo from Illustrator and
implemented it into the letterhead and business card. It was
challenging to keep out extra elements in the business card.
The keys for me were simplicity and color, and making sure
that my colors were not too dark.

Montage

Description: A Christian Montage
Objective: To create a montage for a Christian company
Process:
This was such a fun project. I actually enjoyed this project
so much, I redid it. The whole project was done in
Photoshop. I used the masking tool and feather tool to
create the blended image. Another key to this project was
the focus on the message, trying to make it clear and
choosing a solid font.

PhotoDesign

Description: PhotoDesign showing color scheme
Objective: To take an original photo and create a design.
Process:
For this project, as a class, we were to take a photo using
the color scheme of our choice. After the photo was taken,
I used the color scheme and picked colors out of the photo.
I then added the color choices with blocks and labels using
the RGB color scheme. With this project, I learned that the
screen colors are no where near the print colors and had to
lighten the final colors considerably for the final project.

Objective: To create a magazine cover about ourselves
Process:
This was the first project that we did in this class. The
photo was an original selfie, and the idea was to define
who we were in a few titles/articles on the page. The
photo was edited in Photoshop and the remainder was
created in Illustrator. I chose a purple and green color
scheme.
