3. MONTAGE
DESCRIPTION: A spiritual poster for a Christian company.
DATE: October 19, 2016
COURSE: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
INSTRUCTOR: Joel Judkins
PROGRAMS USED: Adobe Photoshop
OBJECTIVE: Design a spiritual poster for a Christian company
that features pixel blending.
PROCESS: First I had to find a quote. I didn’t have one in mind,
so I just googled until I found one that inspired my design!
Once I found the quote, I knew I wanted to find a picture of kids
or a family. Once I found this one and the wooden background,
I started assembling everything in photoshop.
I looked on dafont.com for some cute fonts, and then used the
eyedropper tool to match joy with the girl’s shirt.
To blend the images together, I used the brush tool.
I knew something was missing, so I added a butterfly to match
the girl’s shirt. After some thought, I decided to add another
one so that I could incorporate more blending and also to hope-
4. MAGAZINE
description: A magazine cover featuring the creator.
date: September 28, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
objective: Create a magazine cover that represents you and
your interests through a photo and headings.
process: I knew right away that I wanted to make a new mag-
azine for this project. The image of flowers around my face and a
title that had to do with the word “flower” were my initial ideas,
and I went from there! The flowers I picked kind of set my color
theme up for me, and I was lucky enough to have picked a shirt
that created a split complementary color scheme that I loved.
Once I started putting everything together, I realized I wanted a
lot of white space and for the picture and color scheme to be the
focus. For this project I also used photoshop to create a white
background to work off of.
5. PREZI
description: A Prezi presentation about hidden gems in Paris, France.
date: October 5, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Prezi Presentation Software
objective: Create a presentation on a topic that interests you to prove
to a client that Prezi is a viable software for a future project.
process: Since I have never made a Prezi, I first had to play around
with the tools and options it provided and get familiar with the program.
Next I decided on my topic. I knew I wanted to do something Paris re-
lated, and finally settled on secret spots in Paris.Once I chose my topic
I had to do a bit of research to decide what I wanted to focus on in my
presentation. After that I made a rough sketch of what I wanted the Prezi
to look like.At this point I began formatting everything on Prezi. I chose
a picture that worked as the background, picked a complementary color
scheme of indigo and gold, and decided to use clouds as the slide back-
grounds. I wanted some visual flow, so I placed the clouds accordingly.
After the basics were decided, I started looking on pexels.com for any
other Parisian pictures I would need to use. I also browsed the symbols
supplied on Prezi. The last step was to sort of put all the elements togeth-
er and move things around a little bit so that everything was in it’s ap-
propriate place.
6. BUSINESS
CARD
Description: A business card for Flo’s Gelato.
date: October 26, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
objective: Create a business card for a business of your choice.
process: I switched back and forth between a few different designs on for this
project. For the front of the business card, I tried to keep things simple, so I started
by just inputting the information and choosing a font, then awaited further inspi-
ration. Next, I put the logo on the other side and decided to go for a simple black
backround. From that I decided to incorporate the heart I used on the letterhead on
the front side.
7. LETTER-
HEAD
description: A letterhead created for Flo’s Gelato.
date: October 26, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
objective: Create a letterhead for the company of your choice.
process: I first knew that I wanted to incorporate the watercolor ef-
fect of the logo within the letterhead itself. To do that, I used Illustrator
to create shapes of various colors and sizes. Next, I dragged everything
into InDesign and started arranging to my liking. Then, I just put my
logo in the upper right corner and added my information below it.
8. coding

Date: November 9, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Adobe Photoshop
objective: Create a webpage using HTML and CSS.
process: First, I worked a bit on the HTML, lining everything up un-
der headings and creating some of the text. Next, I worked on the CSS. I
added my logo and started coordinating colors with it. The hardest part
for me was creating the background and adding it in. I used Illustrator to
create the sprinkles, and matched them to the logo color scheme. One of
the final steps was changing the fonts. I picked ones I thought were simple
and modern, and that matched the theme of my logo. Once my fonts were
picked, I finalized my text in HTML and was done!
9. web
page
description: A homepage design for Flo’s Gelato website.
date: November 16, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Adobe Photoshop
objective: Design a website page on a grid.
process: The first thing I did was sketch out some ideas,
and also look for inspiration on the internet. I knew I wanted
an image as my header, and to gather some beautiful photos
for the page in general. Before filling in the details, I created
a shape map on Photoshop so that I could put my ideas into
action. I mainly used the rectangle and ellipse tool, and then
filled in information with text. The funnest and hardest part of
this project was finding images for a gelato website. I had little
to choose from, and had to do some digging, but I ended up
being happy with the ones I could find. The last thing I had to
do was organize all of my elements into something cohesive. I
added in my text and pictures and moved things around until I
was happy with the final product.
10. INFO-
GRAPHIC
DESCRIPTION: An infographic about fruit across the world.
DATE: November 2, 2016
COURSE: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
INSTRUCTOR: Joel Judkins
PROGRAMS USED: Adobe Illustrator
OBJECTIVE: Create an infographic that incorporates a data graph.
PROCESS: My first idea for my infographic was to do something cen-
tered on New York. I started sketching that out and beginning to work
on that topic, but eventually trashed it because I couldn’t find a solid
enough theme. After that fiasco, I decided to go simple, and the topic
of fruit popped into my head. I researched some statistics and decid-
ed to go with a global theme. My first color scheme was green, purple,
and orange. After starting to put things together, I decided to change
those colors to something more simple: green, teal, and blue. The most
time-consuming part of this project was the transferring of icons. A lot
of my time was spent going through the simple but extensive process
of downloading, transferring to Illustrator, transferring to my project,
reformatting, and coloring in the icons. Once I had everything on the
page, I just reorganized some things and added some finishing touches
and I was done!
11. BROCHURE
description: An informative brochure for Friendly Paws
animal shelter.
date: November 30, 2016
course: Comm 130 Section 4 - Visual Media
instructor: Joel Judkins
programs used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
objective: Create an informative brochure on the subject of your
choice using your collective knowledge and skills.
process: The first thing I did was the title side. I played around
with a few different logos and titles and eventually ended up with this
design. Next I played around with placing pictures and text where I
wanted it. What I think really pulled everything together is when I
created some designs in Illustrator and placed them throughout the
brochure. After that, I added some final touches with the titles and
and then was done!
