Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Course: COMM130 Visual Media Section 6
Instructor: Vanessa Godfrey
Programs Used: Adobe InDesign // Adobe Photoshop
Objective: Create a full bleed folded brochure that contains
text wrapping, a logo, and high quality images.
Process: I first created the logo in Illustrator. Then I went into
InDesign and started to design my brochure. I created box-

scheme, added images, and added text. I then exported
the brochure document as JPEGS.

ing the blend of images and type.
Date: October 20, 2016
Course: COMM130 Visual Media Section 6
Instructor: Vanessa Godfrey
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Objective: To learn the abilities of blending images, using mask
and filter.
Process: In photoshop, I combined all three photos together.
I then added a filter to make the background photo darker,
and used the brush tool to blend the photos together so that
it looked better.
I then chose a quote that I liked, which is from Henry B. Eyring
about the uphill climb of life, which I felt fit the image I had
made.

Process: I first created a sketch of what ideas of layouts that I
could use. I knew that I wanted it to be sports themed, and
chose to do Sports Illustrated. Originally, I had chosen anoth-
er photo and color scheme, but when I decided to re-do my
magazine color, I switched the photo to a an action shot,
which created more flow. I then switched my color scheme
to navy blue and white. It’s simple but but grabs your atten-

than with my first.

Date: October 13, 2016
Course: COMM130 Visual Media Section 6
Instructor: Vanessa Godfrey
Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop
Objective: Use layers and adjustment layers to coordinate de-
sign and color.
Process: I took photos of my sister and her family for this proj-
ect, and was very happy with how they turned out. To better
emphasize the color scheme that I was going for, I adjusted
the levels, increased the vibrance, and used selective col-
or to add more yellow to the photo.I created a new 8.5×11
document in Photoshop. Then I pulled my photo on top of it to
start creating my design. I added the bars, which matched
my color scheme and then I added text, simply using white
for the text color, which made it pop, but didn’t make it too
much to look at.

trator.
Process: I began sketching some ideas for my layout, and af-
ter sharing my ideas with classmates, they helped me come
up with the idea of using a chocolate river and more of a
Willie Wonka theme After making some sketches, I opened
up Illustrator and began putting my ideas to the computer. I
found vectors on websites online, such as pixabay.com and
freepik.com, which was very helpful. I also created a pink
and brown color scheme.
8. Description: Design a letterhead, using consis

Course: COMM130 Visual Media Section 6
Instructor: Vanessa Godfrey
Programs Used: Adobe InDesign // Adobe Illustrator
Objective: Create a letterhead and business cards that keep a
consistent theme, color scheme and logo.
Process: I began the process by sketching out ideas on a
piece of paper. I then put the ideas to the computer, and
created three different logos. I chose one of the logos that
I especially liked. This logo evolved in a lot of ways. It wasn’t
until the end as I continued to make changes that I final-
ly found a color scheme that I liked. I created wave type
shapes at the bottom to keep with my “beach” theme, and
added the shadowing of the palm tree logo in the back-
ground of the letterhead.

Process: This project was one of the hardest ones for me, as
it took awhile for me to get the hang of coding and CSS.
