Walmart Stores, Inc.
Walmart Stores, Inc. was founded by Sam Walton at Rogers, Arkansas in 1962. The business has
experienced tremendous growth ever since achieving an annual turnover of one billion dollars
seventeen years later. In January in 2002, Walmart was recognized as the largest retailer in the
world with a sales record of US $218 billion. This huge growth has enabled the store to penetrate
the global market. The global operation of Walmart was marked by the establishment of its first
international store in 1991 at Mexico City. Currently, Walmart has also opened stores in other
countries including, Brazil, Canada, and Britain. Through its global penetration, an estimated of

Walmart has redefined the art of online marketing, using techniques at grand and impressive scales
to become one of the top company s in the wide history of corporate America. Walmart is a
powerful retail brand that represents value and quality. It offers value for money and convenience
by offering a wide range of products. Through its associates, the company has developed the one

Reproductive Rights as a Historical and Feminist Issue
Reproductive Rights as a Contemporary and Historical Feminist Issue
Essay #1 / Final Exam
American Women s History
H. June Laves One of the biggest issues facing women in American society today has been an issue
bouncing around in politics for decades: reproductive rights. Women can never have equal
opportunity to men without equal opportunity to make their own decisions about their bodies.
Reproductive rights for women not only include the right to abort a pregnancy, but it also involves
any choice a woman may make concerning her body. She must have the right to choose when she
wants to get pregnant, choose when she wants to have sex, have easy access to information about
her body and reproductive system, as well as access to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many women of color in low economic standing were pressured into having sterilization
procedures. These women were forced to make the life altering decision usually while they were
on the table just after delivering their child. Female sterilization of colored women at this time was
equated to racial genocide, as it drastically cut down the predicted birthrate. Repugnant as this was,
many states were chastised because they would fund these sterilizations but they would not support
welfare programs to support these same families. Women should be able to make their own
decisions about their bodies, especially when it comes to their sexual identity. Women should be
able to decide whether or not they want to carry a child, and those who argue that women who
deny motherhood are not listening to the women who argue for reproductive rights. Women need
the power to control their bodies because that is the epitome of owning the power to be considered
an equal in society. Women would not end up in abusive situations concerning their bodies if
information and prevention were more readily available. With knowledge comes power, and that is
proven in every argument through history. Argument for reproductive rights becomes a national
topic every time the presidential race rolls around.

Forbidden Lies By Norma Khouri
The history of publishing has been plagued with literary hoaxes from the somewhat harmless Ern
Malley hoax to the most recent Belle Gibson scandal. Unfortunately literary hoaxes will continue
to happen, unless publishers begin to fact check manuscripts before publication. Publishers claim
they are unable to do this due to the financial cost of the procedure and this is a believable claim.
If you spoke to an average person they would say that the print industry is dying, thanks to the rise
of digital technology, and there has been a downturn in profits.
However, regardless of whether the print industry actually is dying or not, a publisher is
responsible, both legally and ethically, for every manuscript they put onto our shelves. This essay
argues that publishers need to make fact checking part of the standard publishing procedure to
uphold their legal and ethical responsibilities to the public. Forbidden Lies by Norma Khouri will
be used as a case study throughout the essay. First, this essay will give a brief overview of the
Norma Khouri hoax, then move on to discuss why fact checking is not commonplace in the book
publishing industry. Next, it will assess where the legal and ethical responsibilities lie with the
author or publisher. After this, it will examine the financial repercussions and damage to a publisher
s reputation after the publication of a literary hoax. Then, it will begin to examine the ethical
damage literary hoaxes cause to the readers who are

Ascorbic Acid Concentrations Were Determined By Iodometric...
Ascorbic acid concentrations were determined by iodometric titrations of mango juice after being
exposed to increased heat for different durations of time, 3 minutes and 5 minutes, to determine if
the duration of heating of a juice sample increases the rate of decomposition of Ascorbic acid.
Results showed that ascorbic acidconcentrations after being exposed to increased heat for 5 minutes
were lowest. This demonstrates that an increased exposure to heat increases the rate of ascorbic
acid degradation.
Introduction:
Ascorbic acid, better known as Vitamin C, is a water soluble vitamin that is important for the well
being of humans and has the ability to inactivate radical compounds (Righetto and Netto, 2006).
Ascorbic acid is a cofactor that is present in many enzymatic reactions that occur during biological
processes such as digestion, absorption, anti carcinogenicity, collagen formation, cataract
prevention and detoxification (Vikram et al, 2004). Processing of fruits, into fruit juice, often
involves a form of heat treatment which reduces the nutritional (vitamin C) content of the product
(Mercali et al, 2012). Therefore, the purpose of this experiment was to investigate how prolonged
exposure to heat leads to an increased degradation of ascorbic acid in mango juice. The juice was
exposed to three treatments; 0, 3 and 5 minutes of being placed in a boiling water hot bath, and the
concentration of ascorbic acid was determined via titration with potassium iodate.

Out-Of-Hospital Research Paper
The practice of out of hospital emergency medical care has changed considerably over the last 120
years [1]. Started in the early 1900s, ambulance services in the Commonwealth countries were
originally small teams of volunteers trained by charitable organisations such as St John Ambulance
who mostly responded to and provide transportation for work traumatic and environmental injuries
caused by increasing industrialisation [2]. In the majority of countries all over the world especially
in the western countries nowadays, emergency medical systems have evolved into an organized
healthsystem that provide the very first emergency medical response to members of the community
who are in an acute health crisis [3]. Resulted from this organisational model of pre hospital
emergency medical care are different paramedical roles in clinical practice requiring different
educations and trainings as well as experience and competency of the clinical skills. One of the
most highly skilled paramedical roles in this organisation of emergency medical services, intensive
care paramedic, is what most paramedics aspire to.

Why Did the Discoveries of the Renaissance Make Little...
Why did the discoveries of the Renaissance make little practical difference to medical treatment
between c1500 c1700?
During the renaissance there were 3 significant figures, who were Andreas Vesalius who was
famous for his knowledge in anatomy, Ambroise ParГ© who was famous for his advances in
surgery, and William Harvey who was famous for working out how the body worked (physiology).
These three made extremely big and definitely important discoveries, but for different reasons never
really at the time came about to have an importance.
Andreas Vesalius published a book entitled The Fabric of the Human Bodywhich was published
around the time that printing first came about. His specialism was anatomy, and in the book that he

William Harvey published the book called An Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart
and Blood in Animals which was officially published a fair time after the other two s books. He
proved that the heart acts as a pump by recirculating the blood, and showed that the blood flows
around the body and is carried away by the arteries and is carried back into the heart by the veins.
This had a limited impact because likewise to Vesalius, it did not make anyone healthier at the
time, and it made more of a long term impact on medicine. He had not found a way to practically
cure people because he had just made a book to further people s knowledge on how the body
works. Although his book is very useful for us nowadays, at the time people would not know how
to approach it, and really wouldn t make much of an impact on the people s health.
In conclusion, the main reason that I believe is the answer to not having much of a change in the
Renaissance is the people s attitude to change. For example, even though they knew deep down
that something wasn t working, they would still go ahead and use it because of the fact that it
was what they were used to. The great discoveries that were made by Vesalius, ParГ© and Harvey
did not improve people s health day to day, but instead made a serious impact in the general history
of medicine. They showed that the only persons attitude that was going to change was those of the
rich and the

The World s 10 Largest Firms And Their Sources Of Economies
Name Tutor Institution Course Date 1. The world s 10 largest firms and their sources of
economies of scale The two conventional financial clarifications for the development of firms
have been economies of scale and economies of degree. Economies of scale emerge when a firm
brings down its every unit generation expenses of a specific item by creating in more prominent
amount. Division of work through specialization is one reason every unit expenses diminish as
generation increments. Adam Smith depicted in the eighteenth century how a pin plant can
expand its yield essentially if every specialist over and over performs a particular undertaking in
the creation prepare as opposed to having every laborer freely make complete pins without any
preparation (Ayyagari,2011). In current MNCs, economies of scale exist in view of division of
work as well as by consolidating, and regularly supplanting, human work with automated generation.
Interest in substantial scale creation gear and the most recent innovations is by and large
exceptionally extravagant. Organizations that have substantial economies of scale have solid points
of interest over their rivals in light of the fact that they have logistic or value preferences, and in
this way pull in more clients and set their size preference considerably more. It makes a criticism
circle of achievement that adversaries have a troublesome time managing. Organizations that

The Importance Of African American Literature
African American literature transformed society for those who suffered from racial inequality. In
the 1800 s, writers focused on enforcing antislavery for black Americans through poetry, short
stories, and ballads. James M. Whitfield was one of those highly recognized individuals. Frederick
Douglass, William Wells Brown, and his community honored him due to his accomplishments as a
poet (Gates and Smith 422). Many believed that Whitfield would become the next Edgar Allan Poe
or John Greenleaf Whittier, the leading white antislavery poet during that time, because his works
were so successful (Gates and Smith 423). James M. Whitfield s poem America expressed
antislavery through the utilization of different genres, styles, and themes. Furthermore, Whitfield
was born free in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1822 (Gates and Smith, 423). He began writing to
demonstrate his support for African Americanrights by age 16 ( James Monroe Whitfield ). In 1853,
he published his collection of America and Other Poems, which received a fair amount of
attention (Gates and Smith 423). However, this did not lead him to end his barbering business, as
many thought it would. Whitfield also issued numerous poems and letters in San Francisco
newspapers supporting African American civil rights and citizenship ( James Monroe Whitfield ).
James Whitfield was closely affiliated with Frederick Douglass and Martin R. Delany because of
their shared views on slavery. Additionally, Frederick Douglass

Research Paper On Beetroot
Fruits and vegetables are often credited as powerful performance enhancers that are completely
natural and help people increase their performance levels. Beetroot is among those natural
ingredients that are packed with power. According to many researchers, Beetroot juice can act as a
serious energy drink because it contains nitrates.
Beetroot juice is a low cost solution that triggers the body into action. It produces nitric oxide in
the body which causes vasodilation. This allows the body to get more blood to the muscles
therefore increasing the athletic performance. Some experts also suggest that it improves the
function of mitochondria therefore allowing it to produce more power by using less available
oxygen.

A single cup of beetroot contains around 58 calories. It also contains a lot of 13 grams of
carbohydrates while having 2 grams of protein. It also has trace amounts of VitaminA, Vitamin C,
calcium and iron.
Beetroot also contains folate, Vitamin B6, choline and miners such as magnesium, potassium and
zinc. The additional elements of thiamine, riboflavin and betaine all have excellent health benefits.
Many of these ingredients contain nitrates which are the main chemical responsible for most of the
amazing health benefits adhered to the beetroot juice.

Workplace Diversity Essay
Corporate America is seeing a shift in workforce demographics, with the terms workplace diversity
being thrown around in meetings across many large organizations. There are many definitions and
interpretations of workplace diversity, but the this paper will define workplace diversity as an
environment that maximizes the potential of all employees by not discriminating against age,
ethnicity, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race, sexual orientation, educational background,
geographic location, income, marital or partner status, military experience, parental status,
religious beliefs, work experience or job classification (Futon). Managers of this era have to work
alongside individuals who not only come from different ages and educational backgrounds, but
also individuals who are of different origins and have roots in many parts of the world.
Organizational leaders are convinced that diversityefforts need to be an organization wide effort in
order for it to succeed (Roosevelt 23). The reality is that the American workforce is changing
very rapidly and steps have to be taken to adapt to this new environment. This paper will focus on
(1) the growing importance of workplace diversity, (2) the benefits associated with having a
diversified work environment, (3) methods of increasing workplace diversity and (4) effective
strategies for managing a diverse workforce.

What Is Polygamy A Subculture
If you have never heard of polygamy you will and if you had in the past it was most likely due to
the hit reality series Sister Wives about a polygamist family in the state of Utah. Polygamy is
defined as the practice or condition of having more than one spouse at a time. Polygamy is
nothing new and has been practice for hundreds of years but it is now seen as an immoral act, and
a criminal act in a large majority of the of the world. Now even though polygamyis wide known in
certain areas like Africa (South Africa, Kenya), Asia (middle east), etc. Still there are rules that
they must abide by and it frowned on in an obese manner in areas like the United States,
Australia, and China, because as a society we see it as an unjust act that can not be upheld by any
justification but it is permitted in the bible. I support polygamy because I see no fault in the act of

Some things are so meaningful to us that we do not have the courage to share it with other, and
would rather keep it our own secret. I believe that what Hazel means when she says there are
books so special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like a betrayal (Green

special for us that if we were to tell anyone about it, everyone would eventually know about it.
Letting people in on your rare and special secret means telling people about your rare possession,
which would no long be rare as everyone would know about it. An Imperial Affliction holds a

Scout Finch Real Courage
Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird at a small town of Maycomb, Alabama, after The Great
Depression. The novel talked about racism, prejudices, and social rules which caused society to
be unfair. Scout Finch is a little girl who is the main character in the novel. Her characteristics are
courageous, equal, and emotional by nature, which make her get many troubles when she first goes
to school. However, she gradually grows up and becomes more mature and understandable through
each chapter by learning and overcoming many troubles in her life. In particular, although Scout s

For example, white people and black people cannot be categorized two different types of people
when white people bring many disadvantages on black people because they only have different

Power Pole Essay
A 2014 bush fire in Parkerville, Western Australia has left some residents battling a power
company after it was discovered the power pole that caused the blaze was affected by termites.
Did you know that as a land owner you are responsible for maintaining the health of power poles
on your property? If you never inspect your power poles for termites before, now is the time to
do so before the summer hits, the ground dries up and the fire risk increases. Visual Inspection
There are two main ways you can tell whether your power pole has been visited by termites and
the first option is to do a visual inspection yourself. Some facts you should know when you are

the interior of the power pole. If you can easily shred the wood in your hands, your power pole
may be infected. Professional Inspection Because not all types of termite leave a visible trace
of wood damage, a professional inspection is the second way you can confirm whether these
insects have weakened your wood poles. Professional termite inspectors use echo equipment such
as sonar to determine whether a wood pole has been hollowed out by termites. Sound waves
move through the pole and indicate which parts of the pole are still solid and which parts are now
hollow. This allows the operator to form a virtual map of how much of the pole has been eaten by
termites and this can be used to determine whether the pole has been weakened to a point of being

The Strategy Adopted By Samsung

Strategy comes from the ancient Greek work Strategos that combines army to lead (Mintzberg

prepares them for future. In business perspective, it means developing an edge over competitors in
order to secure current customers capture more new customers. In other words Strategy is creating
Competitive Advantage. Organizations have their own ways to achieve Competitive Advantage
(Scott 2005, pp. 191). Samsung chose leading in Design to achieve its Competitive advantage.
Until 20 years ago, Samsung manufactured cheap, imitative electronics for other companies. Its
leaders valued speed, scale, reliability above all. Its marketers set prices introduced features
according to what original manufacturers wanted. Its engineers built products to meet prescribed
price performance requirements. At end of the process designers would make a product looking
nice. The designers were only following engineers orders in a company led by engineers (Yoo Kim

Evidence Led Crime Reduction Project to Reduce Shoplifting
Shoplifting, once described as something committed by individuals who are too afraid to take
other criminal risks (Egan Taylor, 2010); is a widespread problem across England and Wales,
which is slowly becoming known as a common method of consumer product acquisition (Cox, Cox
Moschis 1990). There has been many methods introduced in order to tackle this growing issue, yet
there is a lack of official crime reduction guidelines to allow an effective and unanimous approach
towards the successful reduction of shoplifting.
The scale of shoplifting in the United Kingdom in the past few years has changed to worrying
levels, this is also true of the scope of shoplifting as well. The Office of National Statistics have
reported 321,008 police recorded shoplifting incidents from April 2013 to March 2014 (See
Statistics 2010,), along with this articles have shown 34 of policed forces across the UK have
presented a 6% increase in shoplifting (Pidd Collier, 2014). Such academics as Klemke (1978)
have claimed that shoplifting significantly reduces with age (See Egan Taylor, 2010), it seems to be
a so called hobby that is popular amongst the younger generations, particularly adolescents.
Furthermore, official government crime statistics have shown that shoplifting rates were around
three times higher in urban and city areas than in rural areas with supermarkets experiencing
shoplifting more than other retailers (Home

Analysis Of Do The Right Thing
There are many films in this world that tackle the topic of race. It is an unfortunate truth that leads
to many options when choosing a film to show to the students of Coe College. With a large
majority of the students at Coe being white, choosing a film that addresses the themes of racism in
the 20th century is something that can be a sensitive subject. It is the reason that a film that
addresses tension among different raceon a block in Bed Sty is the most appropriate for the
audience at Coe College. The film Do The Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee, challenges the
characters in the film, along with the audience viewing the film to form opinions on sensitive
subjects and to do the right thing in a difficult situation.Spike Lee uses the film, Do The Right
Thing, to address racial tension in the 20th centurythrough his use of color, camera framing and
narrative. One of the most striking scenes begins in the first forty minutes of the film. The scene
starts off with the music becoming slow and haunting, a difference from the high beat music that
was playing before, while a police car slowly drives down the street in the neighborhood of
mostly people of color. The camera then cuts to the three black men who sit on the corner, Sweet
Dick Willie, Coconut Sid, and ML. The camera pans across the three faces, all showing critical
glares at the police car. The policeman in the passenger seat is then shown, displaying a similar
glare to the black men. The tension can be felt in

Artificial Intelligence Is The Dominant Theory
Artificial intelligence is intelligence exhibited by machines or software. Artificial intelligence also
studies how people create computers that are capable or preforming an intelligent behavior, like a
human (Business Dictionary). To back up artificial intelligence, there is functionalism. Hilary
Putman developed functionalismin the 1970 s, which is still the dominant theory in todays society.
Functionalism states that having a mind does not require a brain and mental states can be realized
by other kinds of substances. Mental states are also defined by their functions. In other words,
functionalism is where ones causes and effects define the views of their mental states. An example
can be defined as being in pain, which can cause... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dualism is just a substance and it stated that the mind is made up of other things rather than just
atoms. Where materialism states the opposite. It showed that there were no such things as
immaterial substances, which meant there were no souls. Materialism was the simpler theory
because there was no mystery and it assumed the least. For that, Ockham s razor denied the
objection to the mind body dualism because it assumed too much. Along with that, materialism was
able to prove that without having a soul, computers can still be intelligent like a human.
Functionalism was an influence that made people believe in the possibility that machines can be
intelligent. It also identifies mental states by what they do rather than what they are made of and
there in that statement, the mind body dualism is denied by functionalism. Perhaps mental states
are more a matter of software, like running a program on your computer (Rosen et al., 355). It is
denied not only because there is not enough information to back it up, but because functionalism
says that beliefs, desires and emotions fit into the larger system since those types of mental states
must be realized by something else other than by what it already is.

A Brief Note On Germ Free Water And The Ganges River
The Ganges River is 1,560 miles long, this river runs through about 48 towns. the ganges river
flows through China, India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The Ganges river basin is one of the most
fertile and densely populated in the world and covers an area of 400 000 sq miles (1 000 000 sq
km). Hindus respect the Gangesriver with the holiest of regards. This holy river was named after
the goddess Ganga, who is believed to be the daughter of the mountain god Himalaya. now, think
about all the people in those towns and just how many of them have to drink this holy water. the
ganges is home to the hindu who believe it is a spiritual cleansing waters, they call it the holy river.
We are proposing cleaner water. there is a way to have this cleaner water if you want it, we can
help. we will make things better. We propose water tanks filled with germ free water. to start, there
will be one in every town along the river.
As Jyoti Thottam said in her article How India s Success is Killing its Holy River all the way from
the himalayas to the plains, the rampant growth of the Ganges River is turning it into a toxic
sewer. She also lets us know that it isn t too late to fix if we start now with a solution (2010). The
source of the pollution is all of the many people who live along the Ganges river. This solution is
needed in the Ganges river because the Ganges river is almost irreversibly polluted. The people of
india are affected the most by this pollution. India is drinking and

Mars Delusion On Mars
Blayne:
Mars: What is the evidence that water once flowed on Mars?
In last couple year s evidence of water on mars has grown exponentially. The geography of Mars
suggests that water was once there. This is because they have found runoff channels in the southern
highlands and outflow channels that are almost exact to how they are on Earth, which obviously
does have water. The Mars Reconnaissance Observer and Mars Express found deposits of clay in
the southern highlands that some researchers say is a strong sign that water was there. Some
others argue that the clay could be formed by other elements on Mars, such as wind. Also, the
Mars Express detected hydrated chemical compounds in the surface of rocks over large areas,
which means it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Critique of the Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales
There are six sections in the response/summary forms (Jarosewich, Pfeiffer, Morris, 2002). Section
one is for identifying information of the student; while section two is where the assessor records
the student s raw scores. Section three plots the results of the GATES in a clear illustration to show
the student s performance against other gifted and talented students. Section four, five, and six all
further detail the raw score of the student by converting the raw score into percentiles, etc. Once the
scores are completed they can be assessed against the individual scales. Based on the student s
scores, a comparison is made against the ranging standard scale to estimate the likelihood of
giftedness and talentedness of the student... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reflects that the number of items between the maximum score and the average are
consistent and reliable. Test retest reliability, in the short term of one week, on all scales except
artistic talent were fair to good (r .59 to .79) for gifted students and excellent (r .80) for average
students and students with handicaps (Jarosewich, Pfeiffer, Morris, 2002, p. 329). Inter rater
reliability measures the test s reliability and consistency across raters (Jarosewich, Pfeiffer,
Morris, 2002). GATES does not provide any information regarding inter rater reliability. Validity
Validity is the assessment of the test s informational construct, content, and criterion (Jarosewich,
Pfeiffer, Morris, 2002). Despite the fact that GATES does not reference any giftedness theory or
theory of support, content validity is confirmed for GATES since the test was developed based
on literature reviews, critiques of existing rating scales, and academic and test construction
experts of the field (Jarosewich, Pfeiffer, Morris, 2002, p. 330). A combination between federal
guidelines on giftedness and a confirmatory item analysis is the basis of GATES creation.
Construct validity is an additional way to provide support for GATES construction by examining
its factor structure (Jarosewich, Pfeiffer, Morris, 2002). Through a discriminant analysis, GATES
findings incorrectly classified some students as being gifted in leadership (60% of the time) and

Academy Ratio Essay
With the original motion picture format, each frame as tall as four perforations with an aspect
ration totaling 1.375:1. It was originally designed by Thomas Edison and was used for years by
film companies. When sound became common in movies, the image ratio was changed to 0.860
inches by 0.820 inches.
The History of Academy Film
Originally, silent films used a 1.33 aspect ratio. This meant that every frame had negative space
accounting for four perforations. The frame line was extremely thin, so this had to be changed to
account for the soundtrack. In the 1920s, studios created a stripe next to one of the perforations for
sound recordings. Meanwhile, the image was cut to 1.19, which made it appear taller. For
audiences who were used to the previous films, the new size was disorienting. More importantly,
exhibitors had problems using the new frame with their screens and projectors.
To keep up with the changes, each studio changed their ratio to different levels. These conflicting
changes were unique to each movie theater change and created problems for theater owners.
Finally, the major studios met in November of 1929 to figure out a solution. They decided to
create a set size of 0.800 inches by 0.600 inches for an aspect ratio of 1.33:1.

Four Functions of Management
There are four functions that a manager must be able to do in order to run a successful company;
planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Each of these elements is equally important. If
even one of these elements is looked over the management process is incomplete and a mangers
effectiveness and efficiency will diminish. The business world of today is drastically different
than that of years before, most importantly because of the advancements of technology. Even
though the daily tasks that a manager will perform today are different than the tasks a manager in
the 1950 s would perform, the foundation is still the same. In the same way an owner of a small
business will have the same fundamentals as a manager for a large corporation.... Show more

The fourth function of management is controlling. This is the management function of monitoring
progress and making needed changes (Schermerhorn, 2003, p. 16). IF a manager does not
monitor what his/her employees are doing, he/she will not have any clue as to what the progress
of that project might be. Employees might not be working at all, or might be going in the wrong
direction. IF this is the case a manager would need to step in and either help the employee get
back on track or change that person s assignment. If deadlines are to be met, it is important for
someone to be looking over the entire project to be certain that all aspects come together correctly.
This is the most important function of management, yet at my company this is the one focused
on the least. We are all asked to complete certain tasks, but are only given vague instructions and
very often go in the wrong direction and what we end up working in is not what was needed at
all. When things are turned in this way, the employees are told they are at fault. If we were not
given any guidance, how are we to be expected to do anything accurately? There have been times
when on a project, I will go to my boss and ask for some more instruction. When I do this my boss
gets frustrated, gives me short answers and doesn t seem willing to help at all.
There is much room for improvement at my company, starting with the management process. If

A Meeting At The First Congregational Church
I went to an AA meeting at the First Congregational Church in New London, Connecticut on
Monday February 22, at 7 pm. It was located in a larger room in the basement of the church. There
were around fifteen members that attended. The individual s came from an array of different ages
and ethnicities, both men and woman. There was no one race or ethnicity that dominated another in
the meeting, it was a very warm, accepting atmosphere. I noticed right away that there was more
young adults around the age of thirty than elderly members. There was also around the same
number of males and females in attendance. The meeting began with the appointed leader asking if
there were any new members in the group, and gave them a chance to introduce themselves. I also
introduced myself at this time, and explained my role as a student. They then transitioned into
reciting the serenity prayer and having a moment of silence, allowing them to give thanks to their
higher power. The leader then had different individuals recite the week s motivational phrase and
reflect on the quote. The quote talked about forgiving yourself as an alcoholic, and the concept of
letting go of the guilt that they have over hurting themselves and the people that they love when
they were under the influence. This topic was very triggering for the members, and lead them into
a very power discussion around the different people in their lives that were directly affected by
their drinking. One woman spoke about losing the

Reasons For The French Revolution
There were many causes that led to the French Revolution. Class, money, and philosophes were
three major factors that contributed to the French Revolution. The most important cause was
money. These factors resulted in Louis The Sixteenth and Marie Antoinette being executed, and the
reign of Napoleon to begin.
Class conflicts are a huge component of the French Revolution. The French Revolution began as a
result of the lack of the people s happiness over how they were told to live their lives. There were
three estates. The first estate being the clergy, the second estate being the nobility, and the third
estate being the bourgeoisie (commoners). The first and second estate consisted of very few people,
but was given most of the money, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the first and second estate voted that the bourgeoisie should pay all the taxes, the
bourgeoisies was outvoted and was forced to keep paying all of the taxes. The nobility and
clergy were very greedy, especially the clergy. Their morals were supposed to be more focused
on the word of god, instead of being focused on the material aspects of life on Earth. The clergy
was supposed to be kind and helpful, instead of selfish. Since the clergy was greedy, it lead
France to be in even more debt and have more conflicts. There were many privileges only given to
the upper classes, which made it unfair. At the beginning of the French Revolution, the bourgeoisie
became very fed up with the inequalities within the classes. To deal with the inequalities, the estates
decided to gather in the tennis courts and take an oath called the Tennis court Oath. The Tennis
court Oath stated that they would not leave until a new constitution was created. In the end, a new
constitution was created and a new form of government was put into place. The new government
was called the national assembly. The national assembly lasted from 1789 1799 but was then
abolished as it upset many people in France because the priorities of the National Assemblies
decisions did not meet the people s needs.
Money was also a major factor to the French Revolution. Once Louis The Sixteenth and Marie
Antoinette became absolute monarchs in 1774, they lavishly spent money. The couple

Kidnapped Character Analysis
Kidnapped, the first book in a two part series by Robert Louis Stevenson, follows a recently
orphaned seventeen year old as he attempts both mentally and physically to survive the time after
his father s death. He first attempts to go to Ebenezer Balfour s home, and he is met by an uncle
who had a falling out with his father over his mother. His uncle gives him an old, destroyed
room to stay in with broken windows; he then tricks him to board Captain Hoseason s ship while
in town shopping so that he can sell David into slavery. Aboard the Covenant, David is treated
poorly until he becomes the new cabin boy for the ship. The ship wrecks onto the Isle of Earraid
in Scotland; he and Alan Stewart are the only survivors, but he does not realize this until happening
upon a house on an island nearby. They meet up and journey whilst encountering many problems
along the way. Eventually, David makes his way back to the town of Queensferry, his uncle s
home. Throughout Kidnapped, he is met with hostility and violent situations from place to place
along his journey whether his change in location is intentional or forced. Setting affects the
emotional and physical wellbeing of David Balfour in Kidnapped as shown through his response to
his multiple changes in environment, location, and caregivers. One way in which the settings

The Similarities Between Fahrenheit 451 And Our Society
Introduction:
There are many differences between Fahrenheit 451 and our society. There society is different
from ours in ways like the way they ve been governing themselves, their houses, and mental
stability. There are many similarities as well as differences between our modern day society and
the society in Fahrenheit 451 .
Topic one government: In our society we have government, it may not be anywhere near as strict as
Fahrenheit 451 s government it is still very strict. There similarities are how we have to keep a
strict structure to our society s. he walked out of the fire station and along the midnight street

and our society keeps us in a nice neat structure that people like to bend and break, unlike 451. In
451, when someone breaks the book law they get there house put up in flames, while the books
went up in sparkling whirls and blew away on a wind turned dark with burning. (bradbury, 2) That
is a difference and a similarity between our governments.

Fernando Dutra. The council members are Bob Henderson, Owner Newcomer, and Cathy Warner.
The meetingstarted off with a lot of public attendance, but a lot of people left after recess. There
was not a lot of public participation because the part of the agenda to discuss issues and decisions
wasn t discussed until after recess. This particular meeting wasn t really affected by public
participation. This meeting was not very healthy in the terms of democracy. The meeting started off
with Public Comments which allowed the public to address the City Council and others on any
issues or comments they needed to discuss. Each person got only three minutes to speak, that was

In Journey s End , one of the main characters who plays the main role in creating the plot, climax

Stanhope s character much more captivating, enchanting and sophisticating.
Sherriff sets the scene with a trench dugout with the conversation between Osbourne and Hardy
discussing about Stanhope s behaviour. This encounters how we visualise Stanhope, whom we
haven t even met. He seems to be a guy whom Osbourne admired as a long way the best company

This demonstrates the true supremacy qualities which even with Raleigh, his girlfriend s brother,
as a commander of the company, he would still do his job rightfully like when Raleigh outlined
Stanhope as hero worships like a man worthy of admiration. The domination of both Hibbert and

Furthermore, during the outrage for Raleigh s letter, the playwright uses the stage direction

free of unfairness rather than based on personal and private relationships.
In conclusion, multiples techniques have been used to characterise Stanhope in such a compelling

between soldiers of Stanhope s company has differentiate him from others. To summarise, Sherriff

I conducted 5 one on one interviews with students who have completed their first year in college.
The idea was to find out how well they were prepared for the financial decisions that would be put
before them. Unlike the general survey, the interview allowed me to ask for individual input.
The first topic was preparedness. I asked if there was anyone who trained them about finances or
talk to them about money. They all answered they had received a little instruction from family and
nowhere else. An interesting fact was that the majority learned their skills from their mothers.
Next they were asked a question that was similar to the survey in the aspect of what are some

Analyzing Carper s A Good Death
A Good Death by Carolyn Adams talks about being present while assessing a patient. Carolyn
Adams sits on the side of the patient s bed to talk to them so they feel like she is not in a rush to

somewhere else. In this story is it expressed that palliative care nurses are not miracle workers,
they are there to allow the palliative patients to have a good death(SOURCE, PICARD, 2000). The
purpose of this assignment is to effectively reflect on a nurse s story, identify the themes that are

The nurse has to do research in order to know which method would be the best for each patient,
and to learn all the new strategies to keep the patients comfortable. The nurse s knowledge is
also up to date on all the kinds of new equipment such as mattresses that help prevent the patient
from getting bedsores. The nurse is aware that the only physical pain that is hard to treat and
control is neuropathic, this is determined through research. The nurse has gained knowledge
through their own person understanding and empath which is part of Carper s (1978) ways of
knowing through their experience of when their own grandfather was a patient before they were
in palliative care. They had an experience that they would never want a family to go through
when their loved one is dying. Through this experience it made the nurse want to go into
palliative care so they could use their new knowledge to try their best to make a family with a
dying loved one witness a good death . The nurse uses knowledge and attitudes built by an ethical
framework. The nurse listens to what the patients want allowing them to be in control of their life,
respecting their life, and doing what is right for the patient s well being. The nurse knows what the
patient wants in order to die a good death even if it means stopping treatment so that there is no
more pain but possibly a shorter life span. The nurse shows knowledge through the awareness of the

Essay about The Impact of Music Piracy
The Impact of Music Piracy
According to the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) the record industry loses $4.3 billion
dollars, worldwide, due to music piracy (RIAA, 2003). The American Federation of Artists claims
that on line music piracy has caused some record store sales to drop by 20% and that 20.6 billion
illegal downloads occur every month (AFM, 2004). Many experts believe that music piracy is
currently the number one threat to the music industry. RIAA sources claim 278 million people,
worldwide, use peer to peer networks such as KaZaA and Grokster to trade music files. RIAA and
AFM are fiercely fighting music piracy and enlisting government support to put and end to this
crime. Congressional committees are currently addressing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Consumers and record producers also suffer the effects of music piracy. Consumers will feel an
increase in concert ticket sales and legitimate album sales to compensate the artists for lost revenue
due to internet music theft. Record producers will have less revenue to work with which is needed
to scout and produce new talent. So, ultimately the consumer is hurt again because less money is
available to buy new talent, so the music pool does not grow and music becomes stagnant.
Measures Taken to Stop the Piracy
The RIAA represents many major recording labels and they are taking lead in the fight against
music piracy. The RIAA feels as if educating the public of the consequences illegal music sharing
has on the industry will be key to decreasing the crime occurrences. The RIAA along with other
groups has launched a major public awareness campaign.
The RIAA is also working together with Congress to enact new bills which would specifically give
legal power to prevent music piracy.
HR 2517, the Piracy Deterrence and Education Act is being considered in the House Judiciary
Subcommittee on Intellectual Property. This act would mostly attack peer to peer networks and
force the FBI and the U.S. Copyright office to develop anti piracy programs (AFM, 2005). Since
2003 the RIAA has aggressively pursued music pirates on the internet who have committed a
substantial amount of illegal downloading. They have won hundreds of

In some situations female workers earn more than their male counterparts in areas that lack
women as workers (McGregor). As stated previously, the wage gap is a result of choices women
have made in their careers, either to take time off to care for children, or just accepting more
benefits as compensation. The only way the wage gap would be considerably linked to
inequality would be if women and men worked the same hours with the same benefits offered.
There is simply too many variables for the claim of a wage gap to be reasonable ( The Wage Gap
). As for women being targeted for sexual assault, that is true, but for valid reasons. Those who
would target males for sexual assault would be males and females who are attracted to men.
Male aggression is linked to presence of testosterone, which women have less of (cite

woman sexually assaulting an individual. A man can also assault a man, but 95% of men consider
themselves straight (cite livescience). The amount of those who would act sexually aggressive

Deep Neck Space Infection Essay
Deep neck space infection (DNSI) means infection in the potential spaces and fascial planes of the
neck, either with abscess formation or cellulitis. Before the antibiotic era, infections of the deep
fascial spaces of the head and neck were fairly common and were a source of considerable morbidity
and mortality. The advent of antibiotics has reduced the overall number of deep neck space
infections but the same still occur in the general population, with a definite potential for significant
morbidity, and even mortality, with improper or delayed treatment. DNSI are found more
commonly in individuals of specific groups such as, immunocompromised individuals recovering

Treatment of DNSI includes antibiotic therapy, airway management and surgical intervention.
Management of DNSI is traditionally based on prompt surgical drainage of the abscess followed by
antibiotics or nonsurgical treatment using appropriate antibiotics in the case of cellulitis. The
advent of modern imaging techniques has made it possible to diagnose these complications earlier
and to localize them exactly. Proper diagnosis and prompt management can effectively overcome
the disease and provide a cure without complications. The main aim of our study was to share our
experience in terms of presentation, clinical trends, common sites involved, bacteriology,
management, complications, and outcomes. The study also emphasizes the importance

Examples Of Bad Habits In Relationships
What are Bad Habits in Relationships?
By Mike McTait
Mar 5, 2010
Possibly not everybody has bad habits but definitely the majority of people have some form of bad
habit. The problem is when an individual brings their bad habits into a relationship that creates
problems or conflicts. Although they have got good purposes for making the relationship work,
sometimes the bad habits are so entrenched that it stops them from relating. Below are some of the
many bad habits within a relationship that could cause it to not succeed.
Jealousy
Distrust can frequently plague a lot of fine relationships. Here we aren t talking about when a
person feels jealousy because they have got every reason to believe that their partner is having an
affair. The bad habit of jealousy in a relationship is when, for instance, a boyfriend might at all
times believe his girlfriend is fooling around with other men. A woman... Show more content on

Many people do not take note of their partners wishes as they purely don t listen. One person might
be trying to explain something that is significant to them, and the other will only say, Yes, yes, but
they will not actually hear.
When the partner with the selective hearing bad habit hears something that interests them, rapidly
they are all ears and very much part of the discussion. Evidently this can cause a lot of antagonism
and quickly wear down a relationship.
Dependence
Certain people who are in long relationships can exploit the bad habit of relying on their partner
for everything. This reliance on another person could cause them to become powerless to take
care of themselves. Frequently they won t take any interest with their job because they believe
that it doesn t matter a whole lot as they are looked after by their partner. This sort of bad habit is
particularly harmful as it might take over every aspect of their

Batman Vs. Superman Compare
In the 1930s two characters appeared in comic literature that became icons of pop culture.
Batman and Superman are the golden boys of DC comics and are considered the most popular
of all superheroes. Being around for over seventy years these two have acquired a near endless
fan base of all ages. The two kings of comics have often been portrayed as allies, though they have
different views on situations. The argument of who is truly the better hero has been around since
their creation. To compare these two juggernauts we must look at their defining traits; origin of the
hero, their alter egos, and of course their strengths and weaknesses. First let us look at the man of

The Leadership Of The Liberal Democratic Party Of Japan
Introduction
While it is a parliamentary democracy, Japan, through 1955 to 1993, maintained a government
led by one party. The leadership of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) closely
resembles a single party dictatorship, as in Japan s geographically close neighbor, China. In fact,
the political situation in Japan was referred to by Chalmers Johnson as soft authoritarianism
(quoted in Lim 2014, p.46). However, unlike China, all of Japan s lawmakers were democratically
elected to the National Diet. Under such a system, LDP managed to dominate the Japanese
parliament for 38 years. During the 1960s and 1970s, Japan experienced rapid economic
development, known as the economic miracle, while LDP was continuously in leadership. ... Show

The nation as a whole seemed to be focused on economic recovery from the ravishes of war, and
achieving annual goals of economic growth, which is well reflected in their savings rate of over
20% during this era (Kim 2009). LDP s utmost task was to respond to such a national trend with
satisfying economic results in order to maintain the party s dominance in the Diet. The 1955
System In post World War II Japan, elected legislators were on a mission to revitalize Japan s war
ravaged economy. With the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, demand for production of
military equipment skyrocketed, which ignited an early manufacturing boom in Japan. The US,
which had already been aiding Japan, allowed Japan to assume a role as a major site of
manufacturing for the military equipment it required for its war efforts in East Asia. In turn,
Japanese exports increased by 26% (Carpenter 2015, p.47). Even after the Korean War ended, the
US continued to give its demand for military equipments to Japan, to the extent that it had spent
$7.2 billion in offshore procurements and other military expenditures in Japan (Lim 2014, p.71). It
was tremendously important for Japan s relationship with the US to remain intact, as it played an
essential role in Japan s economic growth, and enabled Japan to reestablish its regional economic
dominance (Lim 2014, p.71). For this reason, businesses in Japan, which had been enjoying such an

My Best Friend Is My Friend
Everyone has a best friend. Most people have been through multiple best friends within their
lifetime. A best friend is your closest friend, someone to talk to, the first person you think about
when you want to do something, someone to help you with things and they are so much more
than just those qualities. In my case my best friend has helped me become a better person,
helped me to understand certain situations from a different point of view rather than just my
own. She has taught me how to be nicer to people, even people who are not nice to me. She is
there for when I need her and I am there for her when she needs me. It s what best friends do for
each other. I believe that people have best friend soulmates. And I have mine. My best friend,
Natalie, has an incredible impact on my life. Natalie s importance in my life is at a very high
level. I don t know what I would do without her. We have only been friends for a short period of
time compared to my other close friends. We ve only been friends for one year and ten months,
although it feels like it has been centuries. I absolutely adore her. She is one of my favorite people
in my life. She has helped me through some of the worst times in my life and I am so thankful for
her friendship. I would do anything I possibly could to keep her happy. I promised to love her,
advise her, protect her and be there for her when she needs me. When most people say best friends

Environmental Management System and Business Efficiency
Environmental Management System and Business Efficiency
A printing company has various environmental and environmental management issues to deal with.
For Marks Printing Company, the main environmental and business concern is the volume of
business and printed paper from the five year contract. The contract is awarded to the company on
condition it has a proven commitment to environmental management. The expectation is the
company has an operational environmental management system (EMS). Key concern for the
contractor is the ability for Marks Company to manage and dispose the huge amounts of waste
generated inform of paper, the recycling and use of recycled paper. This also includes the
management and proper disposal of waste high in ink, since printing ink has heavy metals or oil
products like the petroleum based printing ink. The third environmental concern is the management
and disposal of sludge from pulp paper with de inked paper. This is with the removal of unused
ink, waste paper, and contaminated waste, the storage of damping alcohol, solvents, liquid waste,
and blanket wash at the car park, creating health, and safety concerns.
Fourthly, the contractor expects the EMS plan to handle energy consumption, since printing
companies are huge consumers of power. This is especially from the use of a 12 year old press,
computer monitors using traditional CRT, and the installation of the conditioning and extraction
system. This goes along with the efficient management

Prohibition Of The United States
Alex Klintworth Prohibition in the United States Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason
in that it attempts to control a man s appetite by legislation and makes crimes out of things that
are not crimes. Even though Abraham Lincoln lived about a half century before Prohibition took
effect in the 1920s, he described it quite well. The legislation essentially took alcohol, which had
been a part of people s lives since history of cultures were reported and made it illegal overnight.
While Prohibition did see some positive effects like a lower consumption rate, other major issues
arose that could have definitely been avoided. Legislators failed to take into account the fact that
taking something away from the public will not stop them from finding loopholes and creative
ways to conceal ways to consume alcohol. While the 18th Amendment may have seemed like a
good idea on paper, its many underlying changes eventually led to a repeal and became known as
a reflection of the United States during the 1920s. When the United States entered World War I in
April of 1917, President Woodrow Wilson implemented a temporary alcoholic ban during wartime
in the hope of saving grain. This ban, however, lasted much longer than anticipated. Groups like the
Anti Saloon League and the Women s Christian Temperance Union dramatized the evils of alcohol
claiming that it can ruin lives. Because recent legislation had been passed like women s suffrage,
these groups received widespread publicity

In the case of drone technology, it is continuously changing from military use to entertainment and
commercial use. Firstly, drones are also known as UAV which stands for unnamed aerial
vehicles. The reason behind them being called UAV s is that they do not have pilots or crew
members and can be controlled with computers on the aircraft by someone else on the ground.
The first use of a drone was for military purposes; it was introduced after the first World War in
1916. On November of 1917 they showed the first UAV; it was so successful they wanted to

The Age Of Exploration By Christopher Columbus
The fifteenth to seventeenth century is known as the Age of Exploration . Europe began to
colonize the countries they had discovered . A major part of the world that they colonized was
Latin America. Spain was the first to colonize, and the United States started to take interest in Latin
America towards the 19th century. Europe and The United Statesboth took interest in Latin
America, but for different reasons.
Spain was the first European nation to colonize Latin America, beginning with Christopher
Columbus voyage in 1492. Columbus conquered Hispaniola, an island in the Caribbean Sea. A few
decades later, Spain sent Hernando Cortez to conquer the Aztec Empire in 1519. In 1535, the
Spanish moved deeper into South America and conquered the Incan Empire with the help of
Francisco Pizarro.
When Europeans explored the world during the Age of Exploration , they colonized areas for a
number of reasons. One reason was to spread Christianity. The Spaniards believed it was their God
given duty to convert people to Christianity. A second reason was to acquire wealth through trade
and exploitation of other countries peoples and natural resources. Colonizing and acquiring the land
in Latin America also led to an increase in geopolitical power over other European countries.
The United States took interest in Latin America for economic and political reasons. The banana
appears to be a distinct reason as to why the United States went over to Latin America according to

Core Functions of Case Management
The case management process consists of five parts: assessment, treatment planning, linking,
advocacy, and monitoring. It is not a linear process and does not follow the order it is written up.
There may be some back and forth and returning to certain points.
Screening
Contact between an addictions counsellor and a client is usually initiated by the client referring
him/her self, an outside agency refers them, family physician or the addictions counsellor initiates
contact through outreach or other agencies. Assessment can be seen as the beginning of treatment
and it becomes an opportunity to encourage the client to begin to move towards change. The initial
assessment involves a mutual investigation and exploration between the client ... Show more content

Although the main goal of the assessment is to refer clients to treatment, many clients refuse
treatment. However, they are willing to accept referrals to non addiction agencies to resolve
problems that have either been caused by addiction or that led to the problems. This assessment
may be an intervention that the client needs. You will want to use the appropriate research based
screening tools that may be applicable to the client s individual circumstances.
Treatment Planning
The treatment planning process helps the client select the level and intensity of treatment that
works best for them. When planning treatment the counsellor can consider preferences and the
services available. The treatment plan may change over time but it provides a focus for ongoing
support. The treatment plan comprises of two main functions, it allows for a negotiation between
the client and assessor for specific interventions to address the identified problems as well as allows
them to develop a manageable plan. It is important when negotiating with the client that the
counsellor listens to what the client wants and is capable of undertaking with agreement to
implement. Each client is unique and every treatment plan should also be tailored to meet his or
her needs. The client must agree to all aspects of the plan. The treatment involves four stages,
prioritizing problem areas and exploring options with the client, matching services available to the
client s

Clark and Feldon (2005) concluded that a facilitator who participates and interacts with students
prevents them from abandoning their course. Better cognitive outcomes occur when students
engage and form a virtual community of learners. The development of a community depends on
online interaction with their peers and the facilitator. Learner satisfaction, perseverance, and
cognitive outcomes characterize the formation of a virtual learning community. Some contest
participation as a prerequisite to learning, claiming students learn sufficiently by observation
(Beaudoin, 2002; Sutton, 2001), and lobby for leniency towards lurking or read only participation.
This article responds to Beaudoin s (2002) article Learning or lurking? Tracking the invisible online
student. He reasoned that students sometimes engage and learn even when not taking part in online
discussions with faculty and other students and showed that low profile students: spend a
significant amount of time in learning related tasks, including logging on, even when not visibly
participating, and they feel they are still learning and benefiting from this low profile approach to
their online studies. (p. 147) We investigated the importance of student online visibility apparent in
the quantity and quality of participation. We explored as a case study the successful completion of
a postgraduate online course by asking the following research questions. (1) How did online

Persuasive Speech On Vaccines
In this speech, I will explore how vaccines relate to increased health issues, how the vaccination
industry has failed to ensure vaccine safety protocols, and what we can do to create a safer and
healthier environment in the future for all of us. Ultimately, the goal is to open a space in which
people can decide to accept the message shared, which is that vaccinationcould be a serious issue
that truly exists, affects us directly, and needs to be resolved.
First, I introduce the problem by providing factual information that supports the proposition that
vaccines could be the reason for serious health issues. The first example from Dr. William Torch
gives official study results which show that two thirds of the babies who received the DPT vaccine
died shortly after from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Miller). The second example of the pilot
study report in the Journal of Translational Science comparing unvaccinated and fully vaccinated
children shows how vaccines negatively influenced the health of the vaccinated children (Bigtree
13 14). For the third example, Dr. Harris Coulter explains that the military accepts only diabetes
free people. Since many US Navy individuals contract Diabetes I after enlistment, the numerous
vaccines these individuals are required to take during their service are considered responsible for
the autoimmune disease (Coulter). The last example reveals that, according to a study conducted
by Harvard Medical School, the Vaccine Adverse Events

  • 3. Reproductive Rights as a Historical and Feminist Issue Reproductive Rights as a Contemporary and Historical Feminist Issue Essay #1 / Final Exam American Women s History H. June Laves One of the biggest issues facing women in American society today has been an issue bouncing around in politics for decades: reproductive rights. Women can never have equal opportunity to men without equal opportunity to make their own decisions about their bodies. Reproductive rights for women not only include the right to abort a pregnancy, but it also involves any choice a woman may make concerning her body. She must have the right to choose when she wants to get pregnant, choose when she wants to have sex, have easy access to information about her body and reproductive system, as well as access to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many women of color in low economic standing were pressured into having sterilization procedures. These women were forced to make the life altering decision usually while they were on the table just after delivering their child. Female sterilization of colored women at this time was equated to racial genocide, as it drastically cut down the predicted birthrate. Repugnant as this was, many states were chastised because they would fund these sterilizations but they would not support welfare programs to support these same families. Women should be able to make their own decisions about their bodies, especially when it comes to their sexual identity. Women should be able to decide whether or not they want to carry a child, and those who argue that women who deny motherhood are not listening to the women who argue for reproductive rights. Women need the power to control their bodies because that is the epitome of owning the power to be considered an equal in society. Women would not end up in abusive situations concerning their bodies if information and prevention were more readily available. With knowledge comes power, and that is proven in every argument through history. Argument for reproductive rights becomes a national topic every time the presidential race rolls around. ... • 4. Forbidden Lies By Norma Khouri The history of publishing has been plagued with literary hoaxes from the somewhat harmless Ern Malley hoax to the most recent Belle Gibson scandal. Unfortunately literary hoaxes will continue to happen, unless publishers begin to fact check manuscripts before publication. Publishers claim they are unable to do this due to the financial cost of the procedure and this is a believable claim. If you spoke to an average person they would say that the print industry is dying, thanks to the rise of digital technology, and there has been a downturn in profits. However, regardless of whether the print industry actually is dying or not, a publisher is responsible, both legally and ethically, for every manuscript they put onto our shelves. This essay argues that publishers need to make fact checking part of the standard publishing procedure to uphold their legal and ethical responsibilities to the public. Forbidden Lies by Norma Khouri will be used as a case study throughout the essay. First, this essay will give a brief overview of the Norma Khouri hoax, then move on to discuss why fact checking is not commonplace in the book publishing industry. Next, it will assess where the legal and ethical responsibilities lie with the author or publisher. After this, it will examine the financial repercussions and damage to a publisher s reputation after the publication of a literary hoax. Then, it will begin to examine the ethical damage literary hoaxes cause to the readers who are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ascorbic Acid Concentrations Were Determined By Iodometric... Ascorbic acid concentrations were determined by iodometric titrations of mango juice after being exposed to increased heat for different durations of time, 3 minutes and 5 minutes, to determine if the duration of heating of a juice sample increases the rate of decomposition of Ascorbic acid. Results showed that ascorbic acidconcentrations after being exposed to increased heat for 5 minutes were lowest. This demonstrates that an increased exposure to heat increases the rate of ascorbic acid degradation. Introduction: Ascorbic acid, better known as Vitamin C, is a water soluble vitamin that is important for the well being of humans and has the ability to inactivate radical compounds (Righetto and Netto, 2006). Ascorbic acid is a cofactor that is present in many enzymatic reactions that occur during biological processes such as digestion, absorption, anti carcinogenicity, collagen formation, cataract prevention and detoxification (Vikram et al, 2004). Processing of fruits, into fruit juice, often involves a form of heat treatment which reduces the nutritional (vitamin C) content of the product (Mercali et al, 2012). Therefore, the purpose of this experiment was to investigate how prolonged exposure to heat leads to an increased degradation of ascorbic acid in mango juice. The juice was exposed to three treatments; 0, 3 and 5 minutes of being placed in a boiling water hot bath, and the concentration of ascorbic acid was determined via titration with potassium iodate. ... • 6. Out-Of-Hospital Research Paper The practice of out of hospital emergency medical care has changed considerably over the last 120 years [1]. Started in the early 1900s, ambulance services in the Commonwealth countries were originally small teams of volunteers trained by charitable organisations such as St John Ambulance who mostly responded to and provide transportation for work traumatic and environmental injuries caused by increasing industrialisation [2]. In the majority of countries all over the world especially in the western countries nowadays, emergency medical systems have evolved into an organized healthsystem that provide the very first emergency medical response to members of the community who are in an acute health crisis [3]. Resulted from this organisational model of pre hospital emergency medical care are different paramedical roles in clinical practice requiring different educations and trainings as well as experience and competency of the clinical skills. One of the most highly skilled paramedical roles in this organisation of emergency medical services, intensive care paramedic, is what most paramedics aspire to. • 7. Why Did the Discoveries of the Renaissance Make Little... Why did the discoveries of the Renaissance make little practical difference to medical treatment between c1500 c1700? During the renaissance there were 3 significant figures, who were Andreas Vesalius who was famous for his knowledge in anatomy, Ambroise ParГ© who was famous for his advances in surgery, and William Harvey who was famous for working out how the body worked (physiology). These three made extremely big and definitely important discoveries, but for different reasons never really at the time came about to have an importance. Andreas Vesalius published a book entitled The Fabric of the Human Bodywhich was published around the time that printing first came about. His specialism was anatomy, and in the book that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William Harvey published the book called An Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals which was officially published a fair time after the other two s books. He proved that the heart acts as a pump by recirculating the blood, and showed that the blood flows around the body and is carried away by the arteries and is carried back into the heart by the veins. This had a limited impact because likewise to Vesalius, it did not make anyone healthier at the time, and it made more of a long term impact on medicine. He had not found a way to practically cure people because he had just made a book to further people s knowledge on how the body works. Although his book is very useful for us nowadays, at the time people would not know how to approach it, and really wouldn t make much of an impact on the people s health. In conclusion, the main reason that I believe is the answer to not having much of a change in the Renaissance is the people s attitude to change. For example, even though they knew deep down that something wasn t working, they would still go ahead and use it because of the fact that it was what they were used to. The great discoveries that were made by Vesalius, ParГ© and Harvey did not improve people s health day to day, but instead made a serious impact in the general history of medicine. They showed that the only persons attitude that was going to change was those of the rich and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The World s 10 Largest Firms And Their Sources Of Economies Name Tutor Institution Course Date 1. The world s 10 largest firms and their sources of economies of scale The two conventional financial clarifications for the development of firms have been economies of scale and economies of degree. Economies of scale emerge when a firm brings down its every unit generation expenses of a specific item by creating in more prominent amount. Division of work through specialization is one reason every unit expenses diminish as generation increments. Adam Smith depicted in the eighteenth century how a pin plant can expand its yield essentially if every specialist over and over performs a particular undertaking in the creation prepare as opposed to having every laborer freely make complete pins without any preparation (Ayyagari,2011). In current MNCs, economies of scale exist in view of division of work as well as by consolidating, and regularly supplanting, human work with automated generation. Interest in substantial scale creation gear and the most recent innovations is by and large exceptionally extravagant. Organizations that have substantial economies of scale have solid points of interest over their rivals in light of the fact that they have logistic or value preferences, and in this way pull in more clients and set their size preference considerably more. It makes a criticism circle of achievement that adversaries have a troublesome time managing. Organizations that contend with bigger opponents have cost and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of African American Literature African American literature transformed society for those who suffered from racial inequality. In the 1800 s, writers focused on enforcing antislavery for black Americans through poetry, short stories, and ballads. James M. Whitfield was one of those highly recognized individuals. Frederick Douglass, William Wells Brown, and his community honored him due to his accomplishments as a poet (Gates and Smith 422). Many believed that Whitfield would become the next Edgar Allan Poe or John Greenleaf Whittier, the leading white antislavery poet during that time, because his works were so successful (Gates and Smith 423). James M. Whitfield s poem America expressed antislavery through the utilization of different genres, styles, and themes. Furthermore, Whitfield was born free in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1822 (Gates and Smith, 423). He began writing to demonstrate his support for African Americanrights by age 16 ( James Monroe Whitfield ). In 1853, he published his collection of America and Other Poems, which received a fair amount of attention (Gates and Smith 423). However, this did not lead him to end his barbering business, as many thought it would. Whitfield also issued numerous poems and letters in San Francisco newspapers supporting African American civil rights and citizenship ( James Monroe Whitfield ). Beetroot is among those natural ingredients that are packed with power. According to many researchers, Beetroot juice can act as a serious energy drink because it contains nitrates. • 11. Workplace Diversity Essay Corporate America is seeing a shift in workforce demographics, with the terms workplace diversity being thrown around in meetings across many large organizations. There are many definitions and interpretations of workplace diversity, but the this paper will define workplace diversity as an environment that maximizes the potential of all employees by not discriminating against age, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race, sexual orientation, educational background, geographic location, income, marital or partner status, military experience, parental status, religious beliefs, work experience or job classification (Futon). Managers of this era have to work alongside individuals who not only come from different ages and educational backgrounds, but also individuals who are of different origins and have roots in many parts of the world. If you never inspect your power poles for termites before, now is the time to do so before the summer hits, the ground dries up and the fire risk increases. Visual Inspection There are two main ways you can tell whether your power pole has been visited by termites and the first option is to do a visual inspection yourself. The History of Academy Film Originally, silent films used a 1.33 aspect ratio. This meant that every frame had negative space accounting for four perforations. The 1955 System In post World War II Japan, elected legislators were on a mission to revitalize Japan s war ravaged economy. With the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, demand for production of military equipment skyrocketed, which ignited an early manufacturing boom in Japan. Better cognitive outcomes occur when students engage and form a virtual community of learners. The development of a community depends on online interaction with their peers and the facilitator. Learner satisfaction, perseverance, and cognitive outcomes characterize the formation of a virtual learning community. Some contest participation as a prerequisite to learning, claiming students learn sufficiently by observation (Beaudoin, 2002; Sutton, 2001), and lobby for leniency towards lurking or read only participation. This article responds to Beaudoin s (2002) article Learning or lurking? Tracking the invisible online student. He reasoned that students sometimes engage and learn even when not taking part in online discussions with faculty and other students and showed that low profile students: spend a significant amount of time in learning related tasks, including logging on, even when not visibly participating, and they feel they are still learning and benefiting from this low profile approach to their online studies. First, I introduce the problem by providing factual information that supports the proposition that vaccines could be the reason for serious health issues. The first example from Dr. William Torch gives official study results which show that two thirds of the babies who received the DPT vaccine died shortly after from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Miller). The second example of the pilot study report in the Journal of Translational Science comparing unvaccinated and fully vaccinated children shows how vaccines negatively influenced the health of the vaccinated children (Bigtree 13 14). For the third example, Dr. Harris Coulter explains that the military accepts only diabetes free people. Since many US Navy individuals contract Diabetes I after enlistment, the numerous vaccines these individuals are required to take during their service are considered responsible for the autoimmune disease (Coulter). The last example reveals that, according to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School, the Vaccine Adverse Events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
