Three-point lighting is a basic cinematography technique that uses three key types of lights - a key light, fill light, and back light. The key light is the dominant light that creates shadows. The fill light softens those shadows. And the back light separates the subject from the background by lighting the edge. Together these three points of light can be used to enhance moods or create dramatic lighting effects for cinema.
