Summary Of Los Angeles Notebook By Joan Didion Santa Ana...
In Los Angeles Notebook , Joan Didion introduces Santa Ana, a dry wind that is characteristic of Los
Angeles region. She emphasizes the severity of Santa Ana by depicting the influence it brings to
people and the environment. The visit of Santa Ana stirred up people and causes fire, leaving people
and the environment vulnerable to such weather. Didion provides details and vignettes that depicts
people s nervous and anxious reactions to underscore how significantly Santa Ana influences Los
Angeles. She concludes by pointing out the fragility of human in front of the nature.
Didion feels that Santa Ana is coming because the baby frets , the maid sulks , and she shows
uneasiness (21). She then recalled the unusual scenes and people s reactions ... Show more content on

Specifically, Didion provides the year of the huge fires caused by Santa Ana and the exact date of
events during the longest Santa Ana period. Moreover, numbers like 25,000 acres and 100 miles an
hour are presented to underscore the scope of the severe fire and intensity of the wind (22). In
addition, instead of briefly stating that some people died during this period, Didion clarifies the causes
of these tragedies, making a seeming connection between the deaths and Santa Ana. She also specifies
the crimes and accidents, using words like murdered , killed , shot , and injury (22). Such words
generate an terrifying and alarming image of Santa Ana. Furthermore, by listing a complete timeline
of big events, Didion makes the essay more informative and assertive. More importantly, instead of
simply listing events, Didion depicts the details of every event with her dramatic imagination so that
readers can have a explicit and vivid picture of what have happened. The abundant details embedded
in the factual evidence not only underlines the strength of Santa Ana, but also makes Didion s

The Constitution And Freedom Of The United States
The Constitution and Freedom The process of debating the guiding document of the new nation,
provided the opportunity for 55 delegates to reflect on a national argument. The key issue of strong
central government verses strong states provided the dividing line between Federalists and Anti
Federalists and would be seen as the underlying theme for many of the debates. Writing as Brutus,
Robert Yates stated it succinctly, The most important question that was ever posed to your decision, or
to the decision of any people under heaven, is before you... (1787). The Anti Federalists were
concerned with maintaining freedom. The states had just fought a battle to remove themselves from
the tyranny of English control. To give up significant amounts of power to a centralized entity would
undermine what they had accomplished in winning their freedom. The states were individually named
in the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Paris recognized them as free sovereign and
independent states. Several steps were taken to ensure the new federal government would not become
simply a replacement for Britain as the ruler of the states. Representation The first step towards
ensuring their freedom was to establish how the states would be represented in the new Federal
government. Some form of elected or chosen representation was needed to ensure that the states
would have a direct hand in determining the laws of the new country. The original plan proposed by

The Wages For Equal Wages
Mind the (Pay) Gap Men in Travis Country, and all over the United States, are almost always paid
higher wages than their female coworkers for doing the same work. Women have been fighting for
equal rights and equal pay since the 19th century and it is about time women and men doing the same
job are paid the same amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal wages for
equal work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are fighting for. Census
data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is approximately $10,000 higher than for
women (kxan.com). Freda Bryson, a Texas State doctoral student and equal pay advocate said, When I
go to buy food or groceries, I don t get a woman s discount, I pay the same thing as a male pays. So
why shouldn t my wages be the same? This quote should send a message: by paying women less than
men, many women simply cannot afford the same basic living expenses as men can. One in four
households with children is headed by a single woman (austincf.org). If a single mom is making
significantly less than a man doing the same work, it is almost impossible to provide a child with a life
above the poverty level. Many women in Travis County are living more than 100% below the line of
poverty, and over half of these women have children to take care of as well. How can you take care of
a child if you cannot even afford to take care of yourself? The gender pay gap is unacceptable and

The Impact Of Tohoku On Japan
Tohoku caused a lot of damage to not only the land, but to the buildings and people that inhabited the
land. Because there was also a tsunami that followed tohoku, there was an increased amount of
damage. Areas of Japan were being flooded, buildings were deteriorating, nuclear plants posed a risk
and released a lot of radiation and many lives were taken. Tohoku affected Japan s entire ecosystem,
and they are still recovering to this day. With reference to the image shown to the right, you can see
the main areas where people as well as buildings were affected, mostly by the tsunami that occurred.

epicentre approximately 70 kilometres east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tōhoku. The earthquake is also
often referred to in Japan as the Great East Japan earthquake and also known as the 2011 Tohoku

powerful earthquake in the world since record keeping began in 1900. The earthquake triggered
powerful tsunami waves that reached heights of up to 40.5 metres (133 ft) in Miyako in Tōhoku. In
the Sendai area, the water travelled up to 10 km inland. The earthquake moved Honshu (the main
island of Japan) 2.4 m east, shifted the Earth on its axis by estimates of between 10 cm and 25 cm and

Gloria Anzaldúa Research Paper
Writing Assignment #1B Gloria Anzaldúa s theory of borderlands is one with a vast number of
concepts and ideas. Her unique writing style, incorporating poems and metaphors to convey her
message, along with the use of her native language provide the reader to fully grasp the content. While
there are many interpretations of what Anzaldúa s theory is, for simplicity s sake, it will be defined as
followed: we must reexamine our definition of borders and their formation so that we can start the
decolonization of our rhetoric, lifestyles, and ideologies; all in hopes of either finding our identity, or
giving our identity meaning and empowering the New Mestiza . This paper will examine this theory
through five key concepts: her methodology, borders, la facultad, hybridity, and cultural conflict.
Following the key concepts, I will apply Anzaldúa s theory to my own lived experiences. Before

She notes that there is a lot of hurling of accusations from both sides of the river (Anzaldúa 100).
White and non whites are in a constant racial conflict. Anzaldúa writings were a reflection of the
society in the 80s, but they paint a similar picture of today s society. Racial tensions are as high as
they have ever been and partisan lines are being drawn in the sand, with opposing sides refusing to go
near the middle. Anzaldúa laments that while people of colors cry for help are legitimate, but engaging
in hostile communication will not result in any change. She suggest that gringos, or white people stop
arguing about past wrongs and admit they happened and take full responsibility, and then ask what
they need from people of color. For people of color, she suggest that we stop debating past harms and
voice our needs (Anzaldúa 107). By doing this, Anzaldúa hopes that will help with dissolving loyalties

Obtaining A Degree In Interdisciplinary Studies
Benefits of Obtaining a Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies Interdisciplinary studies is defined as the
combination of more than one academic discipline being used or studied simultaneously. As our world
and technology continue to build and expand it is paramount that we accept the increased need for
interdisciplinary learning. This form of learning is key to solving future problems as well as
preventing them. By combining two very different areas of study students are able to learn and think
outside of the traditional academic setting. The world of technology today is much different than it
was thirty years ago, along with these changes has come a change in how teachers instruct students.
The changes have also created influence in the way students learn and process information. It is
understood within the college culture that choosing a major is equally as important as attending
college. Many college students struggle with the selection of choosing one subject matter that they
best identify with. When naturally most people do not identify with one select subject matter. It is
clearly beneficial for students to obtain an interdisciplinary studies degree because of the subject study
flexibility, the complete understanding of two majors taught throughout obtaining this degree and
endless job qualifications. Schedule flexibility is offered within an interdisciplinary studies degree
because of the mix of two majors. When working to obtain a degree in interdisciplinary

Essay on Ancient Roman Laws
Ancient Roman Laws
Although the history of Rome s regal period is based in large part on legend, and was so in antiquity,
tradition was strong, and many of Rome s laws and customs, committed to writing much later, have
their roots in the distant past. Ancient Rome had many different types of law in government. Out of all
of the ancient Roman laws, the Julian Marriage laws, the laws of the kings, and the Justinian Codes,
are some of them.
The Julian Marriage laws were very specific and determined. Emperor Augustus notice social

Romulus. Romulus forced the citizens to harsh every male child and the first born of the females, and
he forbade them to put any child to death under three years of age, unless it was a cripple or a monster
from birth. He also made other laws, like one that which does not let a wife divorce her husband, but
gives him power to divorce her for the use of drugs or magic on and for her children. He also made
another law which was more severe, and said that if a daughter in law strikes her father in law, she
shall be given as a sacrifice to his ancestors god/s. Numa Pompilius made other laws to add on to the
Roman government too. One of the laws he created included a royal law which forbade the burial of a
pregnant woman before the child is taken out of from the mothers womb. On the Vestal Virgins he
gave high honors, which gave them the right to make a will while their father/s lived and of doing all
other righteous acts without a guardian. He also made another law which said that a concubine shall
not touch the altar of Juno. If she touches it, she shall sacrifice a lamb to Juno with her hair open and
spread out. The twelve tables were very important. Each of them were about : I A man may bring
another man to court, and may have witnesses, II If someone needs

College Football Playoff Rankings Report
The latest version of the College Football Playoff rankings has been released. We re one week closer
the National Championship, and virtually nothing is any clearer than the previous weeks. The top four
teams in the rankings remained unchanged Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Michigan and most
experts agree that Alabama is a virtual lock to stay at the top. The rest of the party, especially the Big
Ten representative (s), is very much up in the air. We ll skip past the Crimson Tide, as they re expected
to get past Auburn in the Iron Bowl this weekend and coast through the SEC Championship game.
Although, Auburn has won two Iron Bowls since 2010. Ohio State hosts Michigan on Saturday in
what could be a play in game for a spot among the top four playoff teams. In the muddled mess that is
the Big Ten East Division, an Ohio State win coupled with a Penn State win over Michigan State

scenarios play out, the new rankings would likely have Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Wisconsin

becomes a game of wait and see , halted until the championship games play out. Of course, if
Washington wins this weekend and Alabama, Clemson or Wisconsin loses, it could set up mass chaos
for the championship games on Dec 3. New teams could enter the fray, as Penn State could still have a
shot with a win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship. Meanwhile, the Big 12 is the dark horse

Analyzing Paul Robert s Speech Communities
Do you ever think about the way you speak and why? Well, Paul Robert does an excellent job
explaining why people use the dialect they use in Speech Communities. He discusses that people
change their use of language throughout their lives to conform to either society or to what kind of
person they want to be, or to just conform to who they need to be at a particular moment, in which I
agree. People s choice of language, including myself, are affected by many of their surroundings, such
as where they live and grow up at, their peers, and a person s work place. I was born and raised in

Who Is St. Thomas Aquinas Determinants Of Natural Law
St. Thomas Aquinas interpreted Aristotle s philosophies to be read in a Christian lens. His view
demonstrates that moral obligations are determinants of a natural law, one that is acquired from each
individual s God given nature and is knowable by [all] (McBrayer Markie 2014, p. 241). Aquinas
emphasized morality being crucial for everyone, and that God s plans for his creations include being
good. Although, he knew that not everyone was informed of God s moral rules; so, he theorized that
God created the world in accordance to natural laws in which his creations have an innate sense of
knowing what is good for themselves. From our intuitive desires, some inclinations are natural, while
others are unnatural. According to Aquinas, the natural proclivities occur from eternal law, which
states that the whole community of the universe is governed by divine reason (McBrayer Markie
2014, p. 242), and sharing eternal reason for rational beings lead to natural law. ... Show more content

Therefore, natural laws are those that would exist, even if government did not. Natural law consists of
discerning what is good and what is evil (McBrayer Markie 2014, p. 242), such as the prohibition and
positive injunction aspects of a basic good. A basic good includes having a survival instinct to value
life, and a person can reason that others have valuable lives as well, so killing is a violation of natural
law. The prohibition in this scenario is to not kill, while the positive injunction is to promote life. This
natural inclination based on the basic good of life will enable a person to aid others and themselves,
through charities or healthy lifestyles. In contrast, not all virtuous acts are prescribed by natural law

Technical Decision Questions On Programming The Fms And...
The first decision discussed in programming the FMS and ACARS will be choosing the correct
runway to request data for. Choosing the runway is an analytical decision, as information needs to be
analyzed correctly. An airport s ATIS will list the active runways in use for departures. If multiple
runways are being used for departure, pilots will need to anticipate the runway they will use. Pilot will
use their location relative to the runways, direction of departure, and previous experience to decide on
a runway. Pilot s previous experience can be heuristic as certain airport conditions lead to specific
runway operations. It is sometimes referred to as tribal knowledge when anticipating the correct
runway. Sometimes airports will use a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There can also be a runway change after the initial assignment, which leads to the task starting all
over. Time is the biggest stressor in this decision. A pilot always wants to anticipate the correct runway
so that it will reduce their workload during taxing. If they picked the wrong runway they then have a
lot of work starting the request task over in a short period of time.
The second decision looked at will be deciding if the received data is correct and valid to accept and
use. This decision can be either intuitive analytical. Analytical is the correct way to make the decision
however. The decision is analytical because pilots are supposed to verify all the information that was
used to compute the takeoff data such as wind, altimeter, flap setting, and runway. That takes
additional time but is the correct method. Most pilots make the decision using intuitive decisions
making. Pilots receive preliminary takeoff data during their preflight. If the v speeds on the final
takeoff data received is within a knot or two of the preliminary takeoff data v speeds pilots will use
that as their check. They can accomplish that much quicker and use it as a shortcut. If any of the
information isn t correct for the situation it is important pilots catch it or it can lead to invalid data
being used. Time is the biggest pressure in this decision. This decision is generally made while taxing
which is a high

The Concept Of Critical Care Nursing
The concept of critical care nursing has transformed intensely since its origin in the 1960 s. The
discipline of nursing and the specialty of critical care nursing are expected to advance and transform,
just the way health care delivery system has reformed over the last few decades (Morton Fontaine,
2013). Never before have there been significant advancements in technology, surgeries, therapies,
imaging alternatives, diverse procedures, pharmacology and innovative research modalities being
delivered to patients (World Health Organization, 2009). As a result, critical care nurses are being
challenged to explore their knowledge in order to integrate these sophisticated technologies and
interventions to deliver competent, evidence based and holistic care to critically ill patients (Morton

Reality Television and The Negative Impact on the...
With a sense of voyeurism millions of Americans tune into reality television every night without much
thought of the negative message these show project. Since 1948 with the inception of Candid Camera
viewers have been able to select between scripted television and reality television changing the nature
of at home entertainment. The Millennium marked a change with the Academy of Arts and Science
adding the reality genre to the Emmy Awards, celebrating ordinary people in unscripted situations.
However with more and more of theses shows glamorizing negative behavior and social situations as
well as taking away from scripted television and rewarding bad behavior it is no wonder the
Millennial and next generations are said to be doomed.
In recent years there has been an evolution in television networks that focus the majority of their
programing on reality television. Bravo which is owned by NBC originally focused on performing arts
and independent films shifted to a focus on pop culture, fashion and celebrities in 2003. The original
content of these shows was ways to better ones self with makeovers, however the birth of the Real

annihilated by a cluster of swine, weighing in at a hefty 300 pounds each and armed with razor sharp
tusks. Within minutes, the rowdy pigs turn a beautifully manicured lawn into a scene fitting of the
apocalypse, a yard with numerous piles of de rooted sod, broken fence posts and mangled bushes. In
the state of Texas, feral pigs are considered one of the most destructive species of animals ever
introduced to America. The amount of destruction feral pigs produce on a yearly basis in Texas is
alarming; almost half a billion dollars in damages to property and crops are estimated every year as a
result of the pigs actions. Feral pigs are responsible for causing widespread agricultural damage,
spreading diseases in the food supply, and harming the state s ability to feed needy people with their
meat.
Agricultural ranchers in the state of Texas have to deal with feral pigs on a daily basis in order to keep
them from tearing up the food produced by their crops. One of the problems that are causing this to
happen is poorly designed fencing systems used to keep the pigs out of the crop area. In most cases,
the pigs will figure out ways to exploit weakened parts of the fencing systems and gain access to a
feast of forbidden fruits and vegetables. Some ranchers might create traps littered with food bait in
order to capture the wild hogs and have them processed for food. The issue with this

The Color Purple And Ovid s Metamorphoses
In the heart breaking novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker, we read about the protagonist and
narrator, Celie who is a victim of rape and abuse. She is caught in this vicious patriarchal society
where women have no voice. In this novel we see many similarities to Ovid s archetypal rape
narrative. I will discuss the similarities in full detail and explain how the men in the female
protagonists lives hurt and betrayed them. I will be looking at the book The Color Purple as well as
Ovid s Metamorphoses.
When looking at The Color Purple we read about Celie s tragic life, and you feel her pain and
suffering by just reading the words on the page. Her father beats and rapes her and by the looks of
things, it seems that she is forever doomed with eternal heartache, abuse and rape. It seems that she
will never be happy. She is controlled and manipulated by the men in her life that she should be able
to trust. Her father Alphonso has complete control over her and uses her to his advantage and she
suffers from it.
Alice Walker vividly portrays the sad but apparent reality of life in the black rural communities of
America during the mid twentieth century. It is a time when the impacts of slavery are still ... Show

Rendered unable to speak because of her injuries, Philomela wove a tapestry that told her story and

turn them into birds and the gods transformed Procne into a swallow and Philomela into a nightingale.
Coincidentally, in nature, the female nightingale is mute and only the male of the species sings. But

Analysis Of Beowulf s Beowulf
Dane Chelcun
Mrs. Schroder
English IV
21 September 2017
Battle Comparison Beowulf is a story about the quests and battles that the main character, Beowulf,
endures. Though he faces many challenges, he is able to overcome them because of his superhuman
strength and braveness. During the story, Beowulf fights three beasts: Grendel, Grendel s Mother, and
a Dragon. With the strength of 30 men in each hand grip, magical weapons, and the support of Wiglaf,
his right hand man, Beowulf is able to defeat all three beasts, but suffers a fatal blow in his last battle
against the Dragon. In the first of Beowulf s three battles, he challenges Grendel, a disgusting monster

She retaliates by attacking the city, just as Grendel did before he was defeated. Beowulf, realizing this
was going to be a similar beast to Grendel, was going to have to fight her alone. This time, Beowulf is
going to go on the offensive and attack Grendel s mother in her lair underneath the lake. Grasping a
breath of air, Beowulf dives into the lake and spends a day swimming to the lair. Upon his arrival,
Beowulf is immediately attacked by Grendel s mother but his armor protects him. He is pulled further
into the lair and realizes that she is much tougher than Grendel was and that he won t be able to defeat
her with his bare hands. He spots a sword in the lair and grabs it. In one big swing, Beowulf severs her
head, and she falls to the ground. Another victory for Beowulf and the people of Heorot. Beowulf then
spots Grendel s body on the ground and in a rage, severs his head too. Beowulf then returns to Heorot
and is crowned the ruler of the city and the Danes. Shortly after the defeat of Grendel s mother, a 50
foot dragon began attacking the city of Heorot. The dragon flew all over the land, burning and
destroying everything, because someone stole his golden cup. The city of Heorot was almost
completely destroyed and Beowulf yet again, realizes that he is going to have to step up and take
down this beast. Beowulf does exactly that and says he will be taking down this dragon, but he is

As with any business, the typical stakeholder groups for the Monsanto Company include board of
directors, employees, supply chain members, consumers, management, regulatory bodies,
environmentalists, and the agricultural community (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2015). On a more
modern note, Monsanto and Bayer have been attempting to buy out or merge as a company during
2016 to 2018 and it appears that Bayer will be the purchasing agent and Monsanto will be a subsidiary
of Bayer (Varela, 2016). With Bayer being a German based chemical and pharmaceutical company

activities and solutions for collages to add tp their campus that will give students the motivation they
need to live a happier life, this includes easy sport, cheaper healthy meals, and an easy A class about
healthy living. Collages should have activities where you don t have to be on a team, like zumba,
yoga, cross fit and other activities that encourage young people to get out and get active. Some kids
don t want to be in a team, so this is perfect. Other activities like paintball, obstacle courses, and
rollerskating, are fun for people to do, and most don t even realize the are exercising while they do

Restorative Justice In Canada
Restorative justice is an alternate to plain criminal justice processes, with roots in ancient and
autochthonous types of justice. It focuses on repairing the damage caused by crime, inside the context
of relationships and communities. There is a growing interest in restorative justice as a crucial side of
criminal justice reform in several elements of the globe. Public Safety Canada is at the forefront of
analysis and development during this field.A restorative justice program aims to induce offenders to
require responsibility for his or her actions, to grasp the damage they need caused, to offer them a
chance to redeem themselves and to discourage them from committing additional damage. For
victims, its goal is to offer them a full of life role within the method.Restorative justice is based on an
alternate theory to the standard ways of justice, which regularly specialize in retribution. However,
restorative justice programs will complement ancient ways.Academic assessment of restorative justice
is positive. Most studies recommend it makes offenders less probably to reoffend. A 2007 study

21 Day Challenge Research Paper
The 21 day challenge was a great experience for me, and I think it overall made me a happier person.
It was easiest for me to just set apart a time each night to journal about a positive experience, write
down three things I am grateful for, and pray. For me writing three things I was grateful for each day
was the aspect of this challenge that increased my happiness the most. It is easy for me to just think
about all the negative aspects of my life and not really think about all the positives, so by writing them
down each day it made me realize how much I have to be grateful for. I realized that most of the day I
would focus on the bad things that happened, so it was nice to focus on all the good parts of my life.
When I started the challenge, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time there are million things going on, so a few minutes to not think about things like
work and school was very relaxing or me. Overall I don t think praying made me much happier, but it
did help me because it was a time to just be alone with my thoughts. Completing a random act of
kindness each day was somewhat challenging at first because I would forget about doing it, and I
would remember later at night and have to do something before going to bed. However later in the
challenge I found it much easier to remember to complete these random acts of kindness. After
completing these acts of kindness, I felt much happier because it is a good feeling knowing you have
helped someone. I felt good knowing that I helped someone or made their day a little better. Overall, I
think this challenge increased my level of happiness because it made me realize I have a lot to be
thankful for, and there are many more positives in my life than what I realized. When I looked through
my notebook consisting of the positive experiences and the 3 things I was grateful for it was very nice
that instead of just remembering the bad things that happened those days I now can remember the
good things. I have a lot more to be happy about than I thought I did going into this challenge. I now

Obesity And The Infant Body Weight
Parents can calculate their children s percentile to see if the baby is growing well. Percentile is a
number that tells parents directly if their baby s body weight is in the normal by comparing the baby s
weight to other children in the same age group and the baby s weight history. 50th is the midpoint,
75th indicates overweight while 25th means underweight. However, it is not a big problem if a baby s
percentile keeps being high or low. In other words, if the infant s body weight fluctuates too much in a
certain period of time, parents should be aware that something is wrong. The amount of nutrition that
a baby takes in can be one of the causes for the dramatically change on the infant s body weight. It
could be too much, while also could be not enough. The outcomes of nutritional deficiencies could be
both short term and long term. Nutritional imbalance can cause long term influences on a child s
growth. The malnourished children s growth would be stunting, which refers to the failure for the
baby to grow to the regular height compared with the same age group. Because of the insufficient
nutrition that the baby took in during the growing process, bone density would be lower than other
children, which will further impact on the child s height when s/he grown up. After that, when an
infant s body weight is two standard deviations lower than the standard weights, they are wasting.
Personally, I think wasting can damage a child more than the level of stunning can in

Essay on The Main Obstacles to Peace
The Main Obstacles to Peace There has been violence in the Middle East for the past 60 years, and
there still seems to be no hope of a compromise between the Palestinians and the Israelis. In order for
a peace settlement to work, both sides must agree to it, and must overcome the four main barriers
which stand in the way. They must reach a compromise over the city of Jerusalem, showing it should
be controlled by both peoples because of the joint history between them, the attitudes and expectations
should try to be fulfilled, which would destroy the extremist movements on both sides of the conflict,
but more importantly, it has to see a solution for the refugee crisis in this area of the world, ... Show

The Jews recently have begun settlement building in the West Bank, encouraged by Ariel Sharon, (he
was the housing minister in the 1970 s but now the Prime Minister). Today around 400,000 Israelis
live illegally on the Palestinian lands, despite Resolution 242 passed 30 years ago making the
occupation of the West Bank and Gaza strip illegal. This is why most terrorism happens in these areas,
in order to scare the Israelis into defeat. A Recent example of this was in October 2003 when the
Israelis launched a tender for the construction of 550 new homes in the Jewish section of the West
Bank there was much protest from the moderate Palestinians but very soon there was a huge increase
in the violence on the West Bank. Therefore, since any compromise involves one side giving up or not
getting enough of the land they both see as rightfully belonging entirely to them, any peace deal will
inevitably leave both the Israelis and the Palestinians unhappy. The Second barriers to peace are the
extremists on both sides in this conflict. These people want 100% of the land and wouldn t be happy
with anything less than the whole of Palestine to themselves. Both the Palestinian and Israeli Prime
Ministers have hoped that with this new Road Map to Peace would satisfy the

Critique of a Research Article about Incarceration in the...
Background In a study of children that had a family member or family associate incarcerated prior to
their 18th birthday, Loper Nichols (2012) attempted to address the impact that such incarceration had
on such children. It was expected, consistent with previous literature, that household incarceration
would have an impact on academic outcomes. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the
relationship between household incarceration and two outcomes: failure to graduate high school and
extended school absence. Loper and Nichols (2012) examined three factors:
1. If youth with incarcerated household members experienced more social and economic adversity and
worse school outcomes than the rest of the sample.
2. Whether household member ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, this influence is not only related to the parents influence, but is extended to other close
relationship s in the child s household. Other theories that may explain how incarceration has an
impact on children are strain, attachment, social control, and stigma.
Loper and Nichols hypothesized that household incarceration would have a great impact on academic
outcomes of the children in the household.
Methods
There were several relevant variables used in this study. The control variables used were demographic,
socioeconomic, and other adversity variables such as sex, ethnicity, poverty status, mother s
educational attainment, cognitive ability, and home environment quality. The dependent variables in
this study were related to academic outcomes such as extended absences and failure to graduate from
high school. The independent variables used were parental incarceration, sibling incarceration, and
other household member s incarceration (Loper and Nichols, 2012). The study by Lopers and Nichols
was a longitudinal, study design using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, Child
and Youth survey (NLSY 2010), which included women and their children. According to Lopers and
Nichols, Out of the sample, 585 met criteria for the household incarceration status, to be compared to
2,753 individuals who did not experience household incarceration (p. 5). Furthermore, it

Modern Art Research Paper
Painting today is pure intuition and luck and taking advantage of what happens when you splash the
stuff down. Francis Bacon. However when I learnt more about history of art and the way each
movement and happenings in the world inspired artist to make new works, I was able to see much
more than just a canvas with random paints and sketches. The interesting part about this concept is
that each piece of art could be interpreted in many different ways. In contemporary art there isn t right
and wrong, each of us view and find different meanings and connections with artworks. The beginning
of 20th century was a time of drastic change. New developments were made in the arenas of the
classical sciences, social science, psychology and philosophy each challenging traditional thought.
Industrialization and the introduction of many new, challenging concepts in the fields of politics as
well as the development of new technologies gave artist more freedom to innovate and break the rules
of traditional art. By using new materials, techniques and the new approach artists were pushing
boundaries of what has previously been accepted art practice in order to invent radically new styles.
Modernism was a broad period surrounding many movements. It covered from 1860 to 1970. This
movement challenged the traditional thinking with the aim to change the way artists represented the
world. Modernism refers to this

which she can behave; a calm way when involving fine motor skills and energetic way when
involving gross motor skills. Hilary showed her demanding and quiet jealous personality when her
younger sister would come over and try to join in with the activity that I was doing with Hilary. Her
temperamental side showed when she slouched off with her arms folded, I then had to go and

Theories Of Motivation And Motivation
2.2 Motivation
Kressler (2003, 1 2) defines motivation as a rationale behind human behavior; anyone who has
motives is motivated and has reasons and causes for their actions and inaction. Rationale to work is
generally a combination of necessity to work, to satisfy individual needs and to avoid frustration.
However motivation is highly personal and people react differently to motivational factors. Armstrong
(2006, 317) continues that motivation has three dimension; direction that tells what person is trying to
do, effort which explains how hard persons is trying and persistence that clarifies how long person
keeps on trying. Motivation shortly is a goal directed behavior where actions lead to a valued reward

Distracted Driving Capstone Project
For my capstone project, I chose to focus on distracted driving. The reason I chose this topic is
because I feel that this is a very well known issue that people do not think about. Many people may
look at their phone, change their radio station, or program GPS systems without thinking of the
dangers of it. I chose this topic in order to try and make people think about what they are doing, and
this may prevent accidents and fatalities in the future. Prior to researching my topic, I knew that
distracted driving was a serious matter, but I never thought too much of it. As a passenger in the car
with adults and friends, I always saw them changing the radio station, talking on the phone, or texting,
but never saw it as that big of a deal. As I watched the news, I used to see inventions and software
come up all the time that is supposed to prevent drivers from driving distracted. Things such as cars
with Bluetooth connectivity, and voice enable calling or texting were recently put into cars, and at first
I felt it made sense. After I conducted my research, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Being able to locate physical evidence from a civilian must be done with some sort of search and

to be able to flee, lastly to prevent the destruction of evidence or concealment. There is also consent

part of not having to obtain a warrant by a judge or magistrate. Thus without these steps of illegal

The Creation Story Of The Lakota Indians
For the Lakota Indians, stories were passed down through the generations as a way of teaching
lessons. Their creation story places an emphasis on maintaining a balance between man and nature.
This balance was broken for the Indians when, after violating the Dawes Act, a treaty that gave them
full rights to their sacred land, white men pushed them out of their homeland and forced them into a
society that they never wanted to be a part of. In doing this, their culture was greatly diminished, along
with their hope of a better future. Today, the Lakota Indians face poverty and other challenges that all
stem from a time when their rights were violated, peace broken, and stories forgotten. Stories are
central to the Lakota way of life, specifically their story of how the world came to be. The Lakota
Indians believe that the Great Spirit created everything. They say that there was once another world,
but the Great Spirit was upset with those people because they had lost the sacredness of the land, so he
destroyed it and made a new one. To bring water, he sang a song, but by the fourth song, the Earth was
flooded. The flood killed all of the animals except the crow, Kangi, illustrating the necessity of
balance in life. Kangi begged the Great Spirit for a place to rest, so the Great Spirit called forth four
animals that could survive under the water, they were an otter, beaver, loon, and a turtle. The Great
Spirit then asked them to go and retrieve some mud from under the water.

  • 2. Summary Of Los Angeles Notebook By Joan Didion Santa Ana... In Los Angeles Notebook , Joan Didion introduces Santa Ana, a dry wind that is characteristic of Los Angeles region. She emphasizes the severity of Santa Ana by depicting the influence it brings to people and the environment. The visit of Santa Ana stirred up people and causes fire, leaving people and the environment vulnerable to such weather. Didion provides details and vignettes that depicts people s nervous and anxious reactions to underscore how significantly Santa Ana influences Los Angeles. She concludes by pointing out the fragility of human in front of the nature. Didion feels that Santa Ana is coming because the baby frets , the maid sulks , and she shows uneasiness (21). Specifically, Didion provides the year of the huge fires caused by Santa Ana and the exact date of events during the longest Santa Ana period. Moreover, numbers like 25,000 acres and 100 miles an hour are presented to underscore the scope of the severe fire and intensity of the wind (22). In addition, instead of briefly stating that some people died during this period, Didion clarifies the causes of these tragedies, making a seeming connection between the deaths and Santa Ana. She also specifies the crimes and accidents, using words like murdered , killed , shot , and injury (22). Such words generate an terrifying and alarming image of Santa Ana. Furthermore, by listing a complete timeline of big events, Didion makes the essay more informative and assertive. More importantly, instead of simply listing events, Didion depicts the details of every event with her dramatic imagination so that readers can have a explicit and vivid picture of what have happened. The abundant details embedded in the factual evidence not only underlines the strength of Santa Ana, but also makes Didion s following statements about the its influence more ... • 3. The Constitution And Freedom Of The United States The Constitution and Freedom The process of debating the guiding document of the new nation, provided the opportunity for 55 delegates to reflect on a national argument. The key issue of strong central government verses strong states provided the dividing line between Federalists and Anti Federalists and would be seen as the underlying theme for many of the debates. Writing as Brutus, Robert Yates stated it succinctly, The most important question that was ever posed to your decision, or to the decision of any people under heaven, is before you... (1787). The Anti Federalists were concerned with maintaining freedom. The states had just fought a battle to remove themselves from the tyranny of English control. To give up significant amounts of power to a centralized entity would undermine what they had accomplished in winning their freedom. The states were individually named in the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Paris recognized them as free sovereign and independent states. Several steps were taken to ensure the new federal government would not become simply a replacement for Britain as the ruler of the states. Representation The first step towards ensuring their freedom was to establish how the states would be represented in the new Federal government. Some form of elected or chosen representation was needed to ensure that the states would have a direct hand in determining the laws of the new country. The original plan proposed by Virginia ... • 4. The Wages For Equal Wages Mind the (Pay) Gap Men in Travis Country, and all over the United States, are almost always paid higher wages than their female coworkers for doing the same work. Women have been fighting for equal rights and equal pay since the 19th century and it is about time women and men doing the same job are paid the same amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal wages for equal work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are fighting for. Census data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is approximately $10,000 higher than for women (kxan.com). Freda Bryson, a Texas State doctoral student and equal pay advocate said, When I go to buy food or groceries, I don t get a woman s discount, I pay the same thing as a male pays. So why shouldn t my wages be the same? This quote should send a message: by paying women less than men, many women simply cannot afford the same basic living expenses as men can. One in four households with children is headed by a single woman (austincf.org). If a single mom is making significantly less than a man doing the same work, it is almost impossible to provide a child with a life above the poverty level. Many women in Travis County are living more than 100% below the line of poverty, and over half of these women have children to take care of as well. How can you take care of a child if you cannot even afford to take care of yourself? The gender pay gap is unacceptable and changes needs to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her unique writing style, incorporating poems and metaphors to convey her message, along with the use of her native language provide the reader to fully grasp the content. While there are many interpretations of what Anzaldúa s theory is, for simplicity s sake, it will be defined as followed: we must reexamine our definition of borders and their formation so that we can start the decolonization of our rhetoric, lifestyles, and ideologies; all in hopes of either finding our identity, or giving our identity meaning and empowering the New Mestiza . This paper will examine this theory through five key concepts: her methodology, borders, la facultad, hybridity, and cultural conflict. Anzaldúa writings were a reflection of the society in the 80s, but they paint a similar picture of today s society. Racial tensions are as high as they have ever been and partisan lines are being drawn in the sand, with opposing sides refusing to go near the middle. Anzaldúa laments that while people of colors cry for help are legitimate, but engaging in hostile communication will not result in any change. She suggest that gringos, or white people stop arguing about past wrongs and admit they happened and take full responsibility, and then ask what they need from people of color. For people of color, she suggest that we stop debating past harms and voice our needs (Anzaldúa 107). We re one week closer the National Championship, and virtually nothing is any clearer than the previous weeks. The top four teams in the rankings remained unchanged Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Michigan and most experts agree that Alabama is a virtual lock to stay at the top. The rest of the party, especially the Big Ten representative (s), is very much up in the air. We ll skip past the Crimson Tide, as they re expected to get past Auburn in the Iron Bowl this weekend and coast through the SEC Championship game. Although, Auburn has won two Iron Bowls since 2010. Ohio State hosts Michigan on Saturday in what could be a play in game for a spot among the top four playoff teams. • 13. Who Is St. Thomas Aquinas Determinants Of Natural Law St. Thomas Aquinas interpreted Aristotle s philosophies to be read in a Christian lens. His view demonstrates that moral obligations are determinants of a natural law, one that is acquired from each individual s God given nature and is knowable by [all] (McBrayer Markie 2014, p. 241). Aquinas emphasized morality being crucial for everyone, and that God s plans for his creations include being good. Although, he knew that not everyone was informed of God s moral rules; so, he theorized that God created the world in accordance to natural laws in which his creations have an innate sense of knowing what is good for themselves. From our intuitive desires, some inclinations are natural, while others are unnatural. According to Aquinas, the natural proclivities occur from eternal law, which states that the whole community of the universe is governed by divine reason (McBrayer Markie 2014, p. 242), and sharing eternal reason for rational beings lead to natural law. ... A basic good includes having a survival instinct to value life, and a person can reason that others have valuable lives as well, so killing is a violation of natural law. The prohibition in this scenario is to not kill, while the positive injunction is to promote life. With a sense of voyeurism millions of Americans tune into reality television every night without much thought of the negative message these show project. Since 1948 with the inception of Candid Camera viewers have been able to select between scripted television and reality television changing the nature of at home entertainment. The Millennium marked a change with the Academy of Arts and Science adding the reality genre to the Emmy Awards, celebrating ordinary people in unscripted situations. In the state of Texas, feral pigs are considered one of the most destructive species of animals ever introduced to America. Feral pigs are responsible for causing widespread agricultural damage, spreading diseases in the food supply, and harming the state s ability to feed needy people with their meat. Agricultural ranchers in the state of Texas have to deal with feral pigs on a daily basis in order to keep them from tearing up the food produced by their crops. One of the problems that are causing this to happen is poorly designed fencing systems used to keep the pigs out of the crop area. Percentile is a number that tells parents directly if their baby s body weight is in the normal by comparing the baby s weight to other children in the same age group and the baby s weight history. 50th is the midpoint, 75th indicates overweight while 25th means underweight. However, it is not a big problem if a baby s percentile keeps being high or low. In other words, if the infant s body weight fluctuates too much in a certain period of time, parents should be aware that something is wrong. The amount of nutrition that a baby takes in can be one of the causes for the dramatically change on the infant s body weight. It could be too much, while also could be not enough. The outcomes of nutritional deficiencies could be both short term and long term. Nutritional imbalance can cause long term influences on a child s growth. The malnourished children s growth would be stunting, which refers to the failure for the baby to grow to the regular height compared with the same age group. Because of the insufficient nutrition that the baby took in during the growing process, bone density would be lower than other children, which will further impact on the child s height when s/he grown up. Her temperamental side showed when she slouched off with her arms folded, I then had to go and convince her to play another game so she would be happy again. Also after we had been playing for a few hours she became a bit irritable and tired, and started to be bossy and greedy telling me that she can do it herself . that made her become easily bored and distracted as well. By this time it was time for me to go home, I told Hilary that I had to go so she cam and gave me a hug. That showed that even though she was irritable and tired she was still affectionate enough to give me a hug before I went. Family Background Hilary is one of two siblings, her younger sister is called Chanella. Hilary is 1 year and 2 weeks older than Chanella. Because there is such a small age gap between the two children they get on very well. Hilary is like a role model to her younger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Theories Of Motivation And Motivation 2.2 Motivation Kressler (2003, 1 2) defines motivation as a rationale behind human behavior; anyone who has motives is motivated and has reasons and causes for their actions and inaction. Rationale to work is generally a combination of necessity to work, to satisfy individual needs and to avoid frustration. However motivation is highly personal and people react differently to motivational factors. For that rewards like incentives, promotions, praises and appraisals are created. It is how ever argued whether rewards affect to work motivation or just the quality of working life since it is commonly agreed that monetary rewards like bonuses or incentives have only short time effect on human behavior and motivation is a long run matter. Cam eron Pierce (2002, 11) even claimed that money or other high rewards can be harmful or lead to negative motivation if they are frequently used since employees might get used to it and when monetary rewards are being discontinued it can make them do less and more importantly enjoy less of their doing since there is no reward ... • 36. Distracted Driving Capstone Project For my capstone project, I chose to focus on distracted driving. The reason I chose this topic is because I feel that this is a very well known issue that people do not think about. Many people may look at their phone, change their radio station, or program GPS systems without thinking of the dangers of it. I chose this topic in order to try and make people think about what they are doing, and this may prevent accidents and fatalities in the future. Prior to researching my topic, I knew that distracted driving was a serious matter, but I never thought too much of it. As a passenger in the car with adults and friends, I always saw them changing the radio station, talking on the phone, or texting, but never saw it as that big of a deal. As I watched the news, I used to see inventions and software come up all the time that is supposed to prevent drivers from driving distracted. Things such as cars with Bluetooth connectivity, and voice enable calling or texting were recently put into cars, and at first I felt it made sense. After I conducted my research, I ... Seeing that there was illegal actions being taken and hiding of contraband being heard it cleared the part of not having to obtain a warrant by a judge or magistrate. Thus without these steps of illegal activity and making ones presence be known by a police officer of entering one, a police officer would have to have a warrant or the consent of one waiving their Fourth Amendment to be able to have a search or seizure be conducted. Consent A consent search is one waiving their Fourth Amendment right to have a search or seizure be conducted and still be taken with any penalties if found anything. Jacinta A. Gau explains in Consent Searches as a Threat to Procedural Justice and Police legitimacy: An Analysis of Consent Requests During Traffic Stops, how there are many traffic stops every year and within those traffic stops many searches and seizure are being conducted, but from those searches and seizures they are mainly from giving consent. Many of the consent searches and seizure are given from either the fear of saying no will indicate hiding something or the fact that many do not know their rights to be able to say no, or an officer not being able to make it clear from one being able to not give consent. Police officers are not required to inform citizens of their right to withhold consent and refuse a search, though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Creation Story Of The Lakota Indians For the Lakota Indians, stories were passed down through the generations as a way of teaching lessons. Their creation story places an emphasis on maintaining a balance between man and nature. This balance was broken for the Indians when, after violating the Dawes Act, a treaty that gave them full rights to their sacred land, white men pushed them out of their homeland and forced them into a society that they never wanted to be a part of. In doing this, their culture was greatly diminished, along with their hope of a better future. Today, the Lakota Indians face poverty and other challenges that all stem from a time when their rights were violated, peace broken, and stories forgotten. Stories are central to the Lakota way of life, specifically their story of how the world came to be. The Lakota Indians believe that the Great Spirit created everything. They say that there was once another world, but the Great Spirit was upset with those people because they had lost the sacredness of the land, so he destroyed it and made a new one. To bring water, he sang a song, but by the fourth song, the Earth was flooded. The flood killed all of the animals except the crow, Kangi, illustrating the necessity of balance in life. Kangi begged the Great Spirit for a place to rest, so the Great Spirit called forth four animals that could survive under the water, they were an otter, beaver, loon, and a turtle. The Great Spirit then asked them to go and retrieve some mud from under the water. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
