The U.S. Free-Enterprise Economy Essay
The United States is known for having a free enterprise economy where a business can be conducted
freely without government involved. In free enterprise economies, goods and services are traded
openly and are produced depending on the demand. People who support this type of economy believe
it motivates businesses to make money and welcome new ideas. An important part of the economy is
to have full employment and low inflation. Keynesianism and monetarism are both ways to stabilize
the economy and promote growth when need. In keynesianism, government uses fiscal policy which is
a list of policies that government spending and taxing can be used to improve the performance of an
economy. The government produces stabilization by taxing and ... Show more content on

This policy is results in faster results to speed up the economy for the short term. Fiscal Policy is later
used to develop a plan of yearly actions and is a long term way to stabilize the economy. The next idea
to stabilize the economy is a theory called monetarism which is the belief that if government did not
interfere with the market economy that employment would be high and inflation low. Followers
believe the government is the reason of downturns such as the recent recession. Both of these policies,
keynesianism and monetarism are important and supported by the citizens. These ideas of how
economy should be conducted both want to ensure a stable economy for the people. That s where
comparisons end and differences began. Monetarists want absolute freedom in the economy from
government interference. They insist that Keynesianism causes the downturns because government it
so worried about stabilizing the economy and doesn t let it fully growth. Keynestists believe
government should help aid the economy and can track it s progress. Therefore a more structured
policy is in place to provide aid in keeping stability from outside interferences. Without the
government watching, numerous problem can arise such are large businesses taking over the small
businesses which can lead to businesses closing and loss of jobs and no one wants to start a business
with that as a possibility. Balancing the national budget is one of the

My Papas Waltz And My Father s Song
Every one of us has a childhood, some of us may experience a memorable one, while some of us want
to erase it from our memory. Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father s figure
due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems My Father s Song, by Simon J.
Ortiz, and My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and
child relationship. My Papa s Waltz creates a debate whether the father son relationship is sweet
loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child s point
of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems My Father s Song and My Papa s
Waltz both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory.
The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative
language. Firstly, In My Father s Song, the tone is nostalgia, it s a perfect demonstration of emotion
the speaker feels about his father. My Papa s Waltz, poem s tone is playful and light created by the
pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is promoted through word
choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, My
Papa s Waltz, gives us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as Still clinging to your shirt
this shows that he hangs onto his father s shirt, not wanting to let go after his father waltzing him off
to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough,
he still loves his dad. In My Father s song, the speaker remembers his father s voice. The speaker
describes his experience as His voice, the slight catch, the depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of
emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song (Ortiz 3 7). The speaker remembers every
detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more
tonight Wanting to say things, I miss my father tonight (1 2)
Thirdly, Both writers use a lot of imagery in their poems, they use a big amount of imagination to tell
their experiences. Each poem is developed out of

The Black Via A Push Button And Ldr Using C Code Without...
Objective
The purpose of the experiment is to operate an LED through the BeagleBone Black via a push button
and LDR using C code without libraries besides such as . The pins of the BeagleBone Black will be
operated by exporting pins so they can be read or written to in the C program. A LDR and push button
will be used in conjunction with the exported pins for read and write operations to illuminate the LED
when it s dark and vice versa when it s not. With the use of exporting pins to read and write, the
operation of the LED via the LDR or push button will be determined by opening up the file locations
and checking the state of the LED and the value of the push button and LDR. The push button will be
used to set the system in manual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Use a push button for Manual override. Whenever the push button is pressed, it must allow turning off
or turning on the LED regardless of which state the CdS sensor puts the LED in. Your program should
keep track of the exact time the LED is either on or off. Must output the date and time the LED was
turned on or off.
Lab Setup:
Figure 1: Lab Setup
Conclusion
The result of the experiment was a success. The C program used the BBB kernel via paths to operate
the LED as specified. The push button set the system to manual mode and turned off the light if it was
on and turned the LED on if it was off. The second push of the button switched it back to automatic
mode. The turning on and off of the LED also resulted in accurate time stamps of the LED being on or
off.
The lab was pretty simple, however, the process was a little challenging in the beginning. Unlike the
previous labs, we had to configure each pin for our desired functionality, which made it a bit difficult.
The majority time on this lab was spent on configuration of the pins, rather than writing the code.
Questions and Discussion:
What is Rmax and Rmin for your CdS sensor? What is the required resistance, R, for the other half of
the CdS voltage divider circuit?
The CdS resistance measured in full light was approx. 50 ohms. The resistance measured in a dark lit
area was approx. 350k ohms. The range

Breastfeeding Research Paper
Breastfeeding may be slightly uncomfortable in the early days, but it should never be a painful
experience. If you are experiencing pain that doesn t go away with a correct latch and isn t due to
plugged ducts, you could have thrush. Thrush is a common fungal infection that affects breastfeeding
moms and infants.
What is Thrush?
The same fungus that is responsible for those dreaded vaginal yeast infections (candida) is the same
fungus that is responsible for thrush. This yeast is a normal part of your and your baby s digestive
system. Under certain conditions, this yeast can overgrow, causing thrush to occur.
Though the symptoms of thrush are painful, it is a harmless condition that can be taken care of with
the right treatment. Because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treatment should bring relief for both and your baby within 48 hours. Pain relievers, such as
ibuprofen, can be taken to lessen the pain during breastfeeding until the treatment begins working.
Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after breastfeeding and after applying the
medication in order to prevent the yeast from spreading.
Because breastfeeding can be painful for both you and your little one during thrush, try pumping to
maintain your milk supply and to provide breastmilk for your baby while your nipples heal. Most
insurance providers will cover the cost of a breast pump with no out of pocket cost for you.
Though it may seem like a frustrating (and painful) hurdle in breastfeeding, thrush is a very common
problem that nursing moms and babies experience. With the right treatment, you will soon be pain free
and enjoying the nursing relationship that you have with your baby

Early Childhood Educator
As a future early childhood educator, I took it upon myself to get a better understanding of what my
future would look like. I began working at the Boys and Girls Club in the early childhood education
program, and it has been one of the most beneficial and inspirational parts of my life. While there, I
have worked with children who come from completely opposite sides of the socioeconomic, language,
and development spectrums. My first year gave me my greatest teaching dilemma I have faced yet.
Preschool girl twins were placed in my classroom after moving from Africa just days prior. Neither
girls nor mom could talk English, both girls wore the exact same clothing and hair every day, and they
always needed to be hand in hand. I was overwhelmed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the boy and the girl have developmental differences. The girl is incredibly independent, a quick
learner, but is also highly sensitive and socially resistant. Her brother is especially dependent, slow to
learn, and extremely sensitive. I mostly worked with the boy and tried to understand who he is as a
person. I quickly learned that he will have a meltdown if something is wrong with his clothes like if he
spilt milk on his shirt and was wet or if there was a rock in his shoe and it hurt. I also observed that he
constantly has to be touching something whether it be another child, the pictures on the wall, the rug
on the ground, and anything in between. During a meltdown, I would talk to him on his level face to
face and stay calm when asking what is wrong and what can I do to help him. I continuously reassured
him that he has an extra shirt that is dry and all we have to do is take his shoe off to get the rock out. I
also changed the way that I taught him lessons by giving him physical objects of what we were talking
about to hold on to and feel. When it was circle time, he was given a small ball to hold on to and
manipulate as long as it was not distracting to other children or taking his attention away from the
lesson. My strengths in this experience were understanding his developmental tendencies and adhering
to them in a calm and productive

Social And Cultural Belief On Art Practice
Ouroborus Introduction
The brief for this assignment is as I see it to research more than 8 carving cultures and to explain the
impact of social and cultural belief on art practice. To present research material in the correct form and
record citations and bibliography correctly. This information is based on the question.
Is the Ouroborus relevant to our culture of carving from a personal, local and global view point?
Within this essay I will try to provide information that explains what Ouroborus is, investigate and
include text that links the Ouroborus to many different carving cultures that the Ouroborus has had or
still does have an effect on, and cover some of the many different impacts this symbol has an those
cultures.
(Google.co.nz, 2015) [1]
What is meaning of Ouroborus
The following are two different meanings from different sources.
1. The ouroboros from the Greek (οὐροβόρος ὄφις tail devouring snake) is an ancient symbol
depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail.
The ouroboros often symbolizes self reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something
constantly re creating itself, the eternal return, and other things such as the phoenix which operate in
cycles that begin anew as soon as they end. It can also represent the idea of primordial unity related to
something existing in or persisting from the beginning with such force or qualities it cannot be
extinguished. While first emerging in Ancient Egypt and India, the

A Career As A Law Enforcement Officer
Christopher Meloni once stated, You couldn t pay me enough to be a law enforcement officer. Their
job is a tough job. You have to solve people s problems, you have to baby sit people, you have to
always be doing this cat and mouse game with the bad guys. My respect for them is immense. In other
words, Christopher Meloni speaks about the immense amount of respect that he has towards the
individuals who have made a commitment to working in the field of law enforcement due to their
endless work load that they must do on a regular basis. At a fairly young age, I recall having the same
amount of respect for those individuals as well. It troubled my family that at such a young age I

Reason being that this profession exercises and cultivates the idea of working with other individuals
on the team in order to complete a task and the underlying result ends with usually a positive outcome
whether it comes to an end the day of or in the following weeks. Working within the field of law
enforcement provides an atmosphere of in depth thinkers that gather and share information with one
another in order to conjure up the most effective method in order to solve a case. It seems as though
this field is constantly filled with a new adventure, no two days are ever the same, being able to go to
work and experience a unfamiliar thrill each and every day is an aspect that I believe I would cherish,
feeling the rush of adrenaline as you approach a criminal, or running after one who decides to make a
run for it would be such an ecstatic sensation. Working in law enforcement never has a dull moment
for instance, today s schedule may be as effortless as directing traffic while, tomorrow takes a
different toll and the team is investigating a burglary and determining which tactic will be the most
beneficial to go about pinpointing the whereabouts of a criminal and altering your original thinking
scheme in order to get place yourself into the mind of a criminal to determine the events that occurred.
I realized that today s law enforcement workers are not viewed as highly as they once were, due to an
insignificant number of workers who take advantage of their power. Power and greed never go hand in
hand and for that reason the majority of law enforcement workers are looked down upon. I would
relish in pursuing this career because, I would like to be one of those that possesses their power for
justice, and being able to listen to the click click sound of handcuffs as my day comes to its closure

Attorney General John Ashcroft s Controlled Substance Act
On January 17, 2006 in a 6 3 vote in favor of Oregon, the court declared that Congress intended the
Controlled Substance Act (CSA) to only prevent doctors engaging in elicit dug activity and not to
define the states standards of medical practices. Attorney General John Ashcroft made use of the CSA
to prohibit certain medical practices illegitimate, including the allowance of doctors to prescribe lethal
doses of medication to terminally ill patients (the Death with Dignity Act). The court s ruling in favor
of Oregon was a legitimate decision, because Attorney General John Ashcroft did not have the
authority to declare certain medical practices illegitimate. In 1997, the state of Oregon enacted the
only physician assisted suicide law. The administer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ruling was a reprimand for former Attorney General Ashcroft, who said in 2001 that physician
assisted suicide was not a legitimate medical purpose and that Oregon doctors would be punished if
they helped people die under the law. Justice Anthony Kennedy responded to the ruling saying that the
authority claimed by the attorney general is both beyond his expertise and incongruous with the
statutory purposes and design. The Supreme Court s ruling was not a final definite statement on
federal authority having the power to override state physician assisted suicide laws, it was in its basic
form a declaration that the current federal laws did not allow it and did not give the authority to the
Attorney General to make a decision like he did. While the Supreme Court was correct in their
decision, it could still have repercussions outside of the state of Oregon. Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel
of the American Center for Law and Justice, was one person that did not agree with the court s
decision, he stated that This is a disappointing decision that is likely to result in a troubling movement
by states to pass their own assisted suicide laws. Senator Ron Wyden, a supporter of the physician
assisted suicide law, said that the ruling has stopped, for now, the administration s attempts to wrest
control of decisions rightfully left to the states and

The Plight of Intensive Agriculture
Agriculture has faced some of the most significant challenges in recent years. Major challenges
include: the rapid growth of the human population, and the increased demand for agricultural land and
environmental costs of non renewable resources. The current industrial agriculture system consumes
water, and topsoil at unsustainable rates. It contributes to numerous forms of environmental
degradation, including water pollution, soil depletion, and diminishing biodiversity. The following
environmental problems are associated with prevailing production methods: Synthetic chemical
pesticides and fertilizers are polluting soil, water, and air. Soil is ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
In 1990, It is estimated that since World War II, poor farming practices had damaged about 550
million hectares an area equivalent to 38% of all farmland in use today (Oldman et al.28) . Industrial
agriculture endangers soil health because it depends on heavy machinery that compacts the soil,
destroying soil structure and killing beneficial organisms in the soil food web. Soil conservation is a
key integral part in sustainability since it takes many years for soil to naturally form. Despite the
simplicity of industrial monoculture farming, the practice itself does not provide any measures to
conserve topsoil. If farmers do not take part in protecting soil fertility, more farmable lands will be
lost, resulting in food production decline.
Agriculture affects water resources in two ways: irrigating fields using surface waters or aquifers
diverts water from other potential uses; and when farming practices pollute surface waters and
aquifers, they reduce the amount of water that is suitable for other uses. The US Environmental
Protection Agency has blamed current farming practices for 70% of the pollution in the nation s rivers
and streams. The agency reports that runoff of chemicals, silt, and animal waste from US farmland has
polluted more than 173,000 miles of waterways. Agriculture accounts for about two thirds of all water
use worldwide, far exceeding industrial and municipal use (Spooler 310). In many parts of the world,
irrigation is depleting

How Did Julius Caesar Change
Augustus became Rome s first emperor after Rome changed from republic to empire after Julius
Caesar assassination. Julius Caesar is Augustus great uncle and adopted father. He shrewdly combined
military might, institution building and lawmaking to become Rome s sole ruler, laying the
foundations of the 200 year Pax Romana (Roman Peace) and an empire that lasted, in various forms,
for nearly 1,500 years (History.com).
He was born in 63 B.C. and even his adoption he was known as Octavian. At the age of 16 Octavius
donned the toga because it was the Roman sign of manhood and was taking on responsibilities
through his family connections (History.com). Octavius went to modern day Spain to fight alongside
Caesar even though his shipwrecked, so he had to cross enemy territory to get to Caesar. This act

The Colored Man s Paradise By Mary Churchill
Mary Churchill Terrell, a college educated African American, daughter of former slaves, and activist.
Terrell, also known for great accomplishments such as being the first African American woman of
Washington DC s board of education, the first president of the national association of colored women,
and her most memorable work, the delivery of her speech at the Washington s women club, What it
means to be colored in the capital of the US. This speech is so iconic and memorable because Terrell
speaks on the oppression that blacks dealt with during the time the Jim Crow law s from a personal
perspective, and also because she is a woman who at the time was considered the bottom of the social
ladder. Her mission for this speech is admirable, she presents the realities a colored experience in
Washington DC otherwise known as the colored man s paradise she accomplished this with a strong
use of diction, and a mixture of multiple rhetorical tools to address the problems of unrecognized
racism.
As an educated woman, Terrell s word choice consisted of intellectual and bold words. This in fact
was necessary due to her audience of white women and also the motive of the speech, which was to
promote the African American people as equal and capable of being treated similar to the other races.

Nt1310 Unit 3 Lab Report
Introduction
In this lab we will be studying electric field plotting through the use of various apparatus. The
equipment we will be using includes a digital voltmeter, voltage probes, carbonized acetate sheets,
battery, and other tools of measurement. The goal of the lab is for us is to be able to plot lines for
charge distributions and to create electric field lines by providing an electric current through
carbonized sheets. Once we have completed constructing the electric field lines for the plate charge
distribution, we will continue to calculate for the electric field (E = Vx) and begin to plot for the
dipole charge distribution. When we have collected all the data needed, we then will finish calculating
for all the remaining variables and complete the rest of the lab report.
Procedure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After setting the voltmeter to 20 V, we were able to determine the voltage between the 2 plates to be
2.6 V. After determining the voltage between the plates, we proceeded to record voltage of the next
equipotential point per row and other points on the grid where it has no potential difference starting at
point (8,9). To figure out which points had no potential difference, the voltmeter had to equate to ~0 V
in order to plot the equipotential line. My partner and I repeated this process until we have a total of 7
equipotential line between the parallel plates. After we calculated for the electric field, we proceeded
to plot for equipotentials and field lines of the dipole arrangement. First, we determined the voltage
between the poles to be 2.87 V. Afterwards, we repeated the process as the previous arrangement by
obtaining the voltage for each equipotential line and plotting for its field lines. Once we have obtained
all the data needed, we proceeded to complete the latter portion of the lab

Actual Mechanism of Heat Loss during Exercise
Actual Mechanism of Heat Loss during Exercise
High heat and humidity reduce body s ability to lose heat by radiation or convection and evaporation.
While exercising, the heat production within muscle and it is transfer from the core to the skin. Under
appropriate environmental conditions, excess body heat dissipates to the environment which regulates
the core temperature within a narrow range. During exercise in the heat, the heat loss mechanisms
compete with the active muscles for more of the limited blood volume. Thus, neither area is
adequately supplied under extreme conditions.
Heat conduction is when the heat transferred from one material to another through direct molecular
contact. Heat generated deep in the body can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, exercise in heat can hasten glycogen depletion and increase muscle lactate.
Actual Mechanism of Heat Gain during Shivering
Shivering is a rapid, involuntary cycle of contraction and relaxation of skeletal muscles which can
cause a four to fivefold increase in the body s resting rate of energy production. During shivering the
muscles are cool and this causes it became weaker. The nervous system responds to muscle fiber
recruitment patterns. Both muscle shortening velocity and power decrease significantly when
temperature is lowered.
Sweating Mechanism and the Factors that Influence Sweating Rate.
Sweating increases during exercise in the heat, and this can quickly lead to dehydration and excessive
electrolyte loss. To compensate, the release of aldosterone and ADH increases, causing sodium and
water retention, which can expand the plasma volume. Increased dependence on evaporation means an
increased demand for sweating. The sweat glands are controlled by stimulation of the hypothalamus.
Elevated blood temperature causes the hypothalamus to transmit impulses through the sympathetic
nerve fibers to the millions of sweat glands distributed over the body s surface.
Sweat is formed by the secretory portion of the sweat gland. As the filtrate sweat passes through the
duct of the gland, sodium and chloride are gradually reabsorbed back into the surrounding tissues and
then into the blood. When

God In The Code Of Gilgamesh And The Hebrew Bible
God in The Hebrew Bible is quite difficult to span, often being quite incongruous in nature, as there
are ...odd contradictions and repetitions in the narrative... (The Hebrew Bible 151) especially in
relation to God. However, God is quite similar to the gods from The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Code
of Hammurabi as ...like the humans made in his image... [he is] ... willing to scheme and make deals...
(153). Specifically, in relation to The Code of Hammurabi, ...Moses goes to hear the word of God...
and the Ten Commandments are revealed to him (155), these commandments are ...rules of ethical and
religious conduct (155). The Ten Commandments, God s words, seem to be inspired, at least in part,
by Hammurabi s code, as they both seem to try to ...further the well being of mankind (The Code of
Hammurabi 1). Not only are God s words reminiscent of that of the deities in The Code of Hammurabi
and The Epic of Gilgamesh, God is also destructive in many ways, even excluding the great flood that
appears in both The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Hebrew Bible. God creates the serpent...most cunning

What Makes A One Stop Guide On The Landscape
A ONE STOP GUIDE ON HOW TO LANDSCAPE
It is of utmost certainty that people nowadays admire beautiful and incredibly structured gardens and
home fields and back yards. Not only is it applicable to home grounds and fields but it is also quite
possible to perform landscaping techniques on any outstretched field that you may have in mind.
To the uninitiated landscaping refers to any activity and process that directly alters and modifies
natural, abstract and the living elements alike of an outstretched area of land. That said, landscaping is
an artistic activity that requires highly trained expertise in horticulture.
For living features, it requires modification of the surrounding flora and fauna of the area of land and
such activities lead to growth and nurture of plants with the intention of creating a breathtaking
environment within the intended area undergoing landscaping. This is what is commonly referred to
gardening in simple terms.
Secondly, when it comes to the natural features, this entails making changes to the land s terrain,
elevation and the general landforms. Finally, the abstract features are the elements that relate to the
weather and the lighting conditions of the area of land undergoing landscaping.
The landscaping process need not be a humongous and an overwhelming exercise for it is easy to
manipulate and implement. It basically involves two crucial steps i.e. landscape design and the actual
landscape construction. The landscape design involves a series of

The relationship between the existence of gall on the goldenrod and the development on the plants by
using aspect measurement at the Riverwood Conservatory
Introduction
This study shows that the present of the gall on the stems of goldenrod has a taller height of stems
than the ones that without galls. The averaging about 4 feet (1.2m) in height, goldenrod is a perennial
with clusters of bright yellow flowers. It has been used for centuries in the treatment of kidney stones,
urinary tract infections, a variety of other medical condition. (1) Survival probability depends on gall
size; in small galls the larvae is vulnerable to parasitoid ovipositor, whereas larvae in large galls are
more frequently eaten by avian predators. (2) During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the existing of a gall would not impact on the development on the Goldenrod plants, such
as based on average stem height, which was the stem height is shorter than the ones are normal by the
factor of the presence of a gall. Secondly, the presence of a gall also would not impacted the diameter
of gall and in general that won t be an impact on the plants development. Moreover, based on the
result that have been collected, the Goldenrod stem was thinner than the normal ones also by a factor
of whether there was a gall or not on the plants. The presence of a gall did not significantly affect final
stem height but did slow the growth of ramets during the period of most rapid gall growth. (3)Major
errors that could occurred during this investigation was that groups were not able to give out a
confidence measurement as in a total that nine group might have performed this observation by using
their particular way, which means the data collection might be uncertain due to the groups perform the
experiment differently. On top of it, it is important that whether the performed group used a ground as
a reference point for recording the height of stem from the plant, which would lead to the failed of the
hypothesis and draw an incorrect result at the end of this observation. Suggestion that could avoid this

Animals, such as dogs have been service animals for a very long time, and helped many people that

like reptiles that also can help people that are struggling with diseases and or disabilities. This is how
animals can help us with our everyday lives in many unique ways.

Yes, reptiles! Most service animals that are known to help humans are dogs. But reptiles such as
snakes can also be very helpful for humans. They can also improve people s lives in very unique
ways. In the a newspaper Can a snake be a service animal? by Nancy Bartley she states in the 3
paragraph Redrock the boa, Greene says angrily, is a service snake who alerts him to pending seizures
by giving him a hug. This shows that reptiles such as snakes can be helpful because since he always
has Redrock at his side his seizures won t be so unexpected because Redrock will help him and he
would know not to get close to people. But if Redrock wasn t there his owner his seizures won t be
that painful, which makes a snake a good service animal. Another reason why snakes can be a good
service animal because Nancy states in the The outcry was intense with some 4,500 messages, more
response than has been received for any other DOJ topic in recent memory, spokesman Alejandro
Miyar said. This shows that reptiles can be good or even great service animals because if reptiles can
give medical attention to 4,500 people it shows how useful a reptile can be. After this event the
president himself shut down DOJ before they could stop people to use reptiles as service animals. This
shows how useful not only a snake but any reptile could be a service animal and make a positive

Comparing Plato And Shakespeare s Rage Against The Machine

many different cultures. Music has historical lyrics, political meanings, and emotional support for the
people who ask for it or need it. The ancient hawaiians used musicians as historians and their history

song Renegades Of Funk is a song by Rage Against the Machine which surprisingly talks about
historical and scientific things. The song sounds like a song that is just trying to get people up and to

The pressures of the Cold War made strong nuclear families with breadwinning fathers and
domesticated mothers symbols of a healthy nation. In the film, Edna Turnblad serves to symbolize the
traditional image of the ideal American woman housewife. This is evident by the content of her
stereotypical conversations. For instance, when Edna Turnblad meets Motormouth Maybelle for the
first time, she explains that she could not stay for long because she left the iron on back at home.
Although Maybelle comes from a completely different racial background than her, she automatically
sympathizes with Mrs. Turnblad because as a woman she personally understands what it is like to
leave the iron on. John Water s decision to hold a scene in which these distinct women could share
commonality over an iron was not arbitrarily incorporated into the film, but was built in precisely to
stress that all women tend to housework chores, regardless of race. Although she is a housewife, Mrs.
Turnblad is also in charge of her own laundry business. Although women were discouraged from
getting jobs during this time period, her employment is not controversial because she works at a
stereotypical woman s job. During this period, many women had to work because a majority of
families still needed a second wage to bring the family into middleclass

popping out a second story window. It did not have a porch with steps or garage, but it did have a

Molly, Susan, and Beth greeted the fearless foursome at the front door. Reunited as a family, they all
squealed with delight at their new home. Standing in the entryway, the living room stood immediately

Max planned to remodel the house in stages, beginning on the third bedroom first. All seven children

cramped room had minimal space to walk between the beds. Kate and Millie quickly discovered they

Summary Of Harm De Blij s Why Geography Matters
Harm de Blij s book, Why Geography Matters poses a central theme, which I have heard discussed
multiple times. Blij argues that the American public is the most geographically illiterate society in the
world. Blij blames this decline with the poorly formulated curricula in the American school systems,
which ultimately originates from Washington D.C. and the people that run this country. If I had never
seen this central theme in action in a classroom I would have been dumbfounded. In one short
paragraph Blij summarized how America s illiteracy began, which this then becomes the central theme
of his book that relates to the educational field. Blij writes that professional educators took control of

As every day passes China grows stronger in every aspect and eventually they will be knocking on
America s doorstep in each of those categories. Economically, China is closing rapidly, but even the
sleeping giant as Napoleon Bonaparte called it, has its limits. To be blunt, China is resource hungry
and who knows what their country will do next. With the level of nationalism that their people have,
China could go in multiple directions. For example, let us look at both China attempting to exert
control over the South China Sea and also with the Senkaku Islands. Both of these areas are becoming
more and more hostile, which ultimately could lead to deadly military engagements. With that being
said, Blij also proposes an argument that I have been pondering for a while and that is a potential cold
war between the U.S.A. and China. On the outside it seems as if there is a potential collision course to
that conclusion. However, Blij does offer an interesting solution to this possibility and it is one that I
believe should be the strongest takeaway. Blij suggests that trade, scientific, cultural and educational
links and exchanges can be the solution to this issue. After all, China is responsible for many of the
essential aspects to our life. Therefore, the least we as Americans can do is learn the various
geographical aspects that encircle

Gender And Politics James Joyce s Dubliners
Gender and Politics in James Joyce s Dubliners At the turn of the 20th century, a young Irish novelist,

Life Cycle of a Plant, Dominant and Recessive Traits
Paragraph One: Description of the life cycle of a plant from seed to seed (information about the seed,
germination, growth, development, flower, pollination, fruit, seed; information is accurate)
The life cycle of a plant from seed to seed is not that complicated, it consists of a few steps. This all
starts with a seed. The first step is for the seed to germinate and turn into a seedling. Once the seedling
is formed, it will then grow into an adult plant with petals. These petals will then sprout to flowers,
which will produce fruits. The flowers will go to a process of fertilization called pollination, that s
when the pollen is moved from anthers to stigmas. Since the pollen contains sperm and it is passed on
to the ovules in the ovary, the sperm moves down to an ovule, which contains eggs. Fertilization then
happens when the sperm fuses with the egg in the ovule. The petals and stamens then fall away
creating a fruit. These fruits contain seeds, and once the plant has died, the seeds will fall to the
ground and repeat this cycle. So to summarize, the seed goes through a process called germination and
forms into a seedling, which then grows roots and forms true leaves. This plant continues to grow until
flowers are formed. The next step is a process called pollination and fertilization, which then forms a
fruit. The fruit will release the seeds and the process repeats.

Spoken Language Discourse Essay
Language is a tool people use to communicate with others, it can be both seen and heard and it can be
standard or diverse. It is the way in which individuals share information and encompasses many forms
including written and spoken, body language and signals, visual stimuli and even the use of electronic
devices. Language can be spoken, written or signed and involves many facets. According to Gee
Hayes, 2011, language is influenced by both social and cultural environments, it is often social in that
it can be personalised to a group or individual and cultural whereby the way a person speaks is relative
to the rules of the society they live in and governed by the cultural acceptances of that society.
Our language is heard when we use spoken language and requires an individual to make and
understand verbal cues and it also provides the necessity to be able code and decode both text and non
verbal cues such as gestures and facial expressions. Within society there exist many Discourses.
Discourses determine how people view language, and more importantly, how they practise it. (Green,
D, 2006, p.3) Within a Discourse there may be many discourses that are different ways of speaking
within the overarching Discourse. For example, within a school setting you have an educational

Introduction
For years now economist have been debating about inflation and unemployment whether it is possible
to achieve both of this main macroeconomic goals , which is low inflation and low unemployment in
the economy at the same time without harming the economy. In this case it remains one of the
challenge that face most of developing countries that include Namibia, to sustain the low inflation and
low unemployment rate. Philips curve was emerged in 1960 in United Kingdom, was named after A.
W. Philips the founder of Philips curve. Philips curve suggested that there is inverse relationship
between inflation and unemployment and there are three assumptions of Philips curve: the first one is
that in the short run there is trade off between unemployment and inflation. The second assumption is
that aggregate supply can break the concept of Philips curve because it can cause the stagnation that is
high unemployment and high inflation. And the final assumption is that in the long run there is no
significant trade off between unemployment and inflation. The economist like (McConnell 16th
edition) has best interest to identify their relationship; in the short run there is trade off between
unemployment and inflation. In this view different studies in different countries have found out

Divorce Effects Divorce
How Divorce Affects the Formation of Healthy Friendships and Relationships
Several factors come into play when considering the impact that a divorce has on the child s future
relationships, including age at the time of the divorce, gender, upbringing, etc. For the most part
however, there are a few crucial parts of a relationship that most divorces affect, whether the
relationship be with a friend, family member or significant other.
Parental divorce often decreases the level of trust that a child of divorce finds in a relationship.
Children whose parent s have divorced exhibit a fear of being rejected by those they become close to,
and often distrust that their friends, family members, or significant others will remain loyal and close.
This lack of trust often hampers any deepening in the relationship, and is believed to be the result of
having a dysfunctional example of a marital relationship set before them. Many children of divorce
have reportedly been less trusting of their own or a partner s fidelity, and have had difficulty in fully
committing to or choosing one person.
In addition, studies have shown that those who have had first hand experience of a divorce in their
home are 38% more likely than to go through their own divorce than those who did not. These
children suffer through weakened relationships with nearly all family members, especially those
members with whom the child does not visit frequently. Since 90% of custodial parents are mothers

level of commerce. During this time, the cotton gin, steamboats, power looms, and even the telegraph
were invented (Swen). As these inventions continued to improve the way of life, the nation continued
to spread northeast and west to discover new land. Where a stagecoach may have taken months to
transport goods from east to west, the railroad could transport the merchandise cross country in just a
few days. Lastly, communication through the telegraph simplified the need for the pony express.
Although these inventions changed how these people lived their life, was it all for the best? Were
sacrifices made as individuals, as a family, or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now instead of controlling their own future, the nation will become dependent on other people to
succeed in life. Factories did not just hire the man of the family, it hired the whole family. Children
worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first started at Samuel
Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could get under the machinery
and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young
women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would
leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to
protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with
thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room.
Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet
Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms
they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than
slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory
owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. This created family conflict because
not all factories were on the same schedule.

The Importance Of Functional Family Unit
The amount of functional family units has been decreasing for the last century and it is negatively
affecting humanity. In 1960 the percent of children living with two parents was seventy three percent;
in 2013 the percent decreased to forty six. The family unit is the basic social unit of society. The
family unit helps each member learn about and get used to social roles. Each member holds a specific
function or social role in the family. In a healthy family all members fulfill their functions and
emotional expression is accepted. Also, most healthy families practice a religion. If the family
members fail to fulfill their functions the family unit disintegrates. Dysfunctional families are often
caused by a parent not fulfilling their function or being abusive. A parent might not function enough
and not care enough for the children. The parent might also function too much and not give room for
children to grow. In a functional family unit, the parents give space for their children to grow, but also
have a set of established rules. Establishing a functional family unit is important because they form the
basic unit of society, the functionality of the family affects the mental functionality of the children, it
greatly affects the children s future, and it affects society as a whole.
Although some might argue that the functionality of the family does not severely impact a child s
mental health, studies have shown otherwise. Two large meta analyses, one reported

eStore at Shell Case Analysis Student sample
Case Synopsis
In 2002 Shell Canada, a large Oil and Gas company, launched the eStore software application to
service their price sensitive Agricultural market segment by offering a lower cost service. Calvin
Wright (eProduct manager) helped implement the eStore application, which was geared to service this
Agricultural Segment market. The Agricultural Segment was considered by Shell to be high costs
since local sales representatives were used in order to sell the product. By introducing a cost saving
application, eStore, users would be able to place their orders directly online. However, when the
number of eStore users remained unchanged, Wright headed to the field to determine the ... Show

IT developed an application that was to be used by the Agricultural Segment, however the eStore
design was not created nor considered by the customer user friendly (complex security password
design). Such complex features are more likely to be seen in Intranets. Since this application is
supposed to act as an eStore more security should have been implemented for the invoicing portion,
and less when browsing for a product.
What differences are evidenced in this case between the development and deployment of customer
facing applications versus employee facing applications? How did the type of application affect the
use of eStore?
When developing the eStore, Shell did not seem to adhere too much to the customers needs, but rather
servicing the needs of the company (developed a cost effective system). In the consultant report it is
identified that customers had trouble differentiating which login application they should choose since
they presumed to be presented with two options. The customer had the perception that by using the
left side of the screen they would use an insecure login (Rainer, 2008, pg. 176). The IT development
of eStore was approached as being used by someone that had some application knowledge and
training prior to navigating the

Cruise Ship Advertising For The 1970 s
Cruise Ship Advertising
Advertisements are the main source of communication that companies use to introduce their products
to consumers. We see these advertisements in different forms; such as, an ad on a magazine or
newspaper, a commercial on television, or on a billboard on the side of the road. We are constantly
introduced to many different kinds of ads with various types of appeals that companies believe will
get our attention and suit our needs. Cruise ship companies have been advertising throughout the
decades using different appeals to persuade consumers to try their ships as an option of traveling.
Although cruise ship traveling advertisements have changed through the decades, their appeals have
remained the same.
According to Jib Fowles, author of Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals explains the different kind of

They both have a man surrounded by beautiful young women. The 1970 s advertisement shows an
image of a man who is wearing a nice fitted suit. He is surrounded by two ladies who are gladly
looking at him giving him attention while placing a lei garland around his neck. The consumer can
visualize that if they go on that ship, they can possibly have the same attention by meeting new
people. The headline reads, Cruise to Hawaii on the new lurline which shows people that this
particular ship is new, and new often means good quality. Likewise, the 1990 s advertisement shows
an older male figure and alongside two younger women drinking cocktails and smoking a cigarette
giving him their attention.
All of these different advertisements also share the appeal of psychological needs in their images.
Some of these needs are desired by most people while on vacation. For example, the need to relax and
sunbathe on the ship s deck, poolside socializing with friends, the need of a cold cocktail drink, and
the smell and feel of the sea breeze while enjoying the ocean

In free enterprise economies, goods and services are traded openly and are produced depending on the demand. People who support this type of economy believe it motivates businesses to make money and welcome new ideas. An important part of the economy is to have full employment and low inflation. Keynesianism and monetarism are both ways to stabilize the economy and promote growth when need. In keynesianism, government uses fiscal policy which is a list of policies that government spending and taxing can be used to improve the performance of an economy. Fiscal Policy is later used to develop a plan of yearly actions and is a long term way to stabilize the economy. The next idea to stabilize the economy is a theory called monetarism which is the belief that if government did not interfere with the market economy that employment would be high and inflation low. Followers believe the government is the reason of downturns such as the recent recession. Both of these policies, keynesianism and monetarism are important and supported by the citizens. These ideas of how economy should be conducted both want to ensure a stable economy for the people. That s where comparisons end and differences began. Monetarists want absolute freedom in the economy from government interference. They insist that Keynesianism causes the downturns because government it so worried about stabilizing the economy and doesn t let it fully growth. Keynestists believe government should help aid the economy and can track it s progress. Therefore a more structured policy is in place to provide aid in keeping stability from outside interferences. • 5. My Papas Waltz And My Father s Song Every one of us has a childhood, some of us may experience a memorable one, while some of us want to erase it from our memory. Everyone also has their own personal feelings towards a father s figure due to their personal experiences they have as a child. The poems My Father s Song, by Simon J. Ortiz, and My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, are two similar poems written about a father and child relationship. My Papa s Waltz creates a debate whether the father son relationship is sweet loving memory or a confession of childhood abuse. The two poems are spoken from the child s point of view during a memorable event in their childhood. The poems My Father s Song and My Papa s Waltz both share a theme of admiration each kid has looking upon their father and a warm memory. The writers use a variety of poetic devices such as tone, word choice, imagery, and figurative language. Firstly, In My Father s Song, the tone is nostalgia, it s a perfect demonstration of emotion the speaker feels about his father. My Papa s Waltz, poem s tone is playful and light created by the pleasant rhythm iambic, which makes the poem short and sweet. The tone is promoted through word choice, Both writers use similar word choice to strengthen the theme of admiration. In the poem, My Papa s Waltz, gives us a both and negative feeling, he uses words such as Still clinging to your shirt this shows that he hangs onto his father s shirt, not wanting to let go after his father waltzing him off to bed. His descriptions of the dance give us a fun, playful feeling. Despite the fact the waltz is tough, he still loves his dad. In My Father s song, the speaker remembers his father s voice. The speaker describes his experience as His voice, the slight catch, the depth from his this thin crest, the tremble of emotion in something he has just said to his son, his song (Ortiz 3 7). The speaker remembers every detail about his father. The child misses his father and cared profoundly about him, especially more tonight Wanting to say things, I miss my father tonight (1 2) Thirdly, Both writers use a lot of imagery in their poems, they use a big amount of imagination to tell their experiences. I quickly learned that he will have a meltdown if something is wrong with his clothes like if he spilt milk on his shirt and was wet or if there was a rock in his shoe and it hurt. I also observed that he constantly has to be touching something whether it be another child, the pictures on the wall, the rug on the ground, and anything in between. The ouroboros from the Greek (οὐροβόρος ὄφις tail devouring snake) is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. The ouroboros often symbolizes self reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re creating itself, the eternal return, and other things such as the phoenix which operate in cycles that begin anew as soon as they end. Major challenges include: the rapid growth of the human population, and the increased demand for agricultural land and environmental costs of non renewable resources. The current industrial agriculture system consumes water, and topsoil at unsustainable rates. It contributes to numerous forms of environmental degradation, including water pollution, soil depletion, and diminishing biodiversity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1990, It is estimated that since World War II, poor farming practices had damaged about 550 million hectares an area equivalent to 38% of all farmland in use today (Oldman et al.28) . Industrial agriculture endangers soil health because it depends on heavy machinery that compacts the soil, destroying soil structure and killing beneficial organisms in the soil food web. Soil conservation is a key integral part in sustainability since it takes many years for soil to naturally form. Despite the simplicity of industrial monoculture farming, the practice itself does not provide any measures to conserve topsoil. If farmers do not take part in protecting soil fertility, more farmable lands will be lost, resulting in food production decline. Agriculture affects water resources in two ways: irrigating fields using surface waters or aquifers diverts water from other potential uses; and when farming practices pollute surface waters and aquifers, they reduce the amount of water that is suitable for other uses. The US Environmental Protection Agency has blamed current farming practices for 70% of the pollution in the nation s rivers and streams. The agency reports that runoff of chemicals, silt, and animal waste from US farmland has polluted more than 173,000 miles of waterways. Agriculture accounts for about two thirds of all water use worldwide, far exceeding industrial and municipal use (Spooler 310). In many parts of the world, irrigation is depleting ... While exercising, the heat production within muscle and it is transfer from the core to the skin. Under appropriate environmental conditions, excess body heat dissipates to the environment which regulates the core temperature within a narrow range. Thus, exercise in heat can hasten glycogen depletion and increase muscle lactate. Actual Mechanism of Heat Gain during Shivering Shivering is a rapid, involuntary cycle of contraction and relaxation of skeletal muscles which can cause a four to fivefold increase in the body s resting rate of energy production. During shivering the muscles are cool and this causes it became weaker. The nervous system responds to muscle fiber recruitment patterns. Both muscle shortening velocity and power decrease significantly when temperature is lowered. Sweating Mechanism and the Factors that Influence Sweating Rate. Sweating increases during exercise in the heat, and this can quickly lead to dehydration and excessive electrolyte loss. To compensate, the release of aldosterone and ADH increases, causing sodium and water retention, which can expand the plasma volume. Increased dependence on evaporation means an increased demand for sweating. The sweat glands are controlled by stimulation of the hypothalamus. Elevated blood temperature causes the hypothalamus to transmit impulses through the sympathetic nerve fibers to the millions of sweat glands distributed over the body s surface. Sweat is formed by the secretory portion of the sweat gland. As the filtrate sweat passes through the duct of the gland, sodium and chloride are gradually reabsorbed back into the surrounding tissues and then into the blood. When ... However, Blij does offer an interesting solution to this possibility and it is one that I believe should be the strongest takeaway. Blij suggests that trade, scientific, cultural and educational links and exchanges can be the solution to this issue. After all, China is responsible for many of the essential aspects to our life. Gender And Politics James Joyce s Dubliners Gender and Politics in James Joyce s Dubliners At the turn of the 20th century, a young Irish novelist, James Joyce, released his first collection of short stories on Irish identity and what it means to exist in Ireland. In some of his most well known stories, you can see Joyce building a contrast between the men and the women in Irish society. One of his most well known short stories, The Dead takes a very explicit approach to gender politics as well as the idea of identity and race. • 31. Life Cycle of a Plant, Dominant and Recessive Traits Paragraph One: Description of the life cycle of a plant from seed to seed (information about the seed, germination, growth, development, flower, pollination, fruit, seed; information is accurate) The life cycle of a plant from seed to seed is not that complicated, it consists of a few steps. This all starts with a seed. The first step is for the seed to germinate and turn into a seedling. Once the seedling is formed, it will then grow into an adult plant with petals. These petals will then sprout to flowers, which will produce fruits. The flowers will go to a process of fertilization called pollination, that s when the pollen is moved from anthers to stigmas. Since the pollen contains sperm and it is passed on to the ovules in the ovary, the sperm moves down to an ovule, which contains eggs. Fertilization then happens when the sperm fuses with the egg in the ovule. The petals and stamens then fall away creating a fruit. These fruits contain seeds, and once the plant has died, the seeds will fall to the ground and repeat this cycle. So to summarize, the seed goes through a process called germination and forms into a seedling, which then grows roots and forms true leaves. This plant continues to grow until flowers are formed. The next step is a process called pollination and fertilization, which then forms a fruit. The fruit will release the seeds and the process repeats. • 33. Spoken Language Discourse Essay Language is a tool people use to communicate with others, it can be both seen and heard and it can be standard or diverse. It is the way in which individuals share information and encompasses many forms including written and spoken, body language and signals, visual stimuli and even the use of electronic devices. Language can be spoken, written or signed and involves many facets. According to Gee Hayes, 2011, language is influenced by both social and cultural environments, it is often social in that it can be personalised to a group or individual and cultural whereby the way a person speaks is relative to the rules of the society they live in and governed by the cultural acceptances of that society. Our language is heard when we use spoken language and requires an individual to make and understand verbal cues and it also provides the necessity to be able code and decode both text and non verbal cues such as gestures and facial expressions. Within society there exist many Discourses. Discourses determine how people view language, and more importantly, how they practise it. (Green, D, 2006, p.3) Within a Discourse there may be many discourses that are different ways of speaking within the overarching Discourse. Philips curve was emerged in 1960 in United Kingdom, was named after A. W. Philips the founder of Philips curve. Philips curve suggested that there is inverse relationship between inflation and unemployment and there are three assumptions of Philips curve: the first one is that in the short run there is trade off between unemployment and inflation. The second assumption is that aggregate supply can break the concept of Philips curve because it can cause the stagnation that is high unemployment and high inflation. And the final assumption is that in the long run there is no significant trade off between unemployment and inflation. • 37. Divorce Effects Divorce How Divorce Affects the Formation of Healthy Friendships and Relationships Several factors come into play when considering the impact that a divorce has on the child s future relationships, including age at the time of the divorce, gender, upbringing, etc. For the most part however, there are a few crucial parts of a relationship that most divorces affect, whether the relationship be with a friend, family member or significant other. Parental divorce often decreases the level of trust that a child of divorce finds in a relationship. Children whose parent s have divorced exhibit a fear of being rejected by those they become close to, and often distrust that their friends, family members, or significant others will remain loyal and close. This lack of trust often hampers any deepening in the relationship, and is believed to be the result of having a dysfunctional example of a marital relationship set before them. Many children of divorce have reportedly been less trusting of their own or a partner s fidelity, and have had difficulty in fully committing to or choosing one person. In addition, studies have shown that those who have had first hand experience of a divorce in their home are 38% more likely than to go through their own divorce than those who did not. Children worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first started at Samuel Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could get under the machinery and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room. Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. • 40. The Importance Of Functional Family Unit The amount of functional family units has been decreasing for the last century and it is negatively affecting humanity. In 1960 the percent of children living with two parents was seventy three percent; in 2013 the percent decreased to forty six. The family unit is the basic social unit of society. The family unit helps each member learn about and get used to social roles. Each member holds a specific function or social role in the family. In a healthy family all members fulfill their functions and emotional expression is accepted. Also, most healthy families practice a religion. If the family members fail to fulfill their functions the family unit disintegrates. Dysfunctional families are often caused by a parent not fulfilling their function or being abusive. A parent might not function enough and not care enough for the children. The parent might also function too much and not give room for children to grow. In a functional family unit, the parents give space for their children to grow, but also have a set of established rules. Establishing a functional family unit is important because they form the basic unit of society, the functionality of the family affects the mental functionality of the children, it greatly affects the children s future, and it affects society as a whole. Although some might argue that the functionality of the family does not severely impact a child s mental health, studies have shown otherwise. Two large meta analyses, one reported ...
