Macrophage Pathogen
The success of a pathogen is not to kill its host but to infect the host in a way that it helps to transfer
and hence propel the pathogen further. The host has its own mechanisms to contain the infection, like
low pH (acidic pH in the phagolysosomes is crucial for the hydrolytic activity of the enzymes),
temperature (fever is a common symptom due to a lot of infections), and inflammation. All this is well
mediated by the host immune system.
As Mtb is inhaled by a healthy individual, it is phagocytosed by the macrophages and dendritic cells
in the lung alveoli. Macrophages, a part of the innate immunity, play a major role in killing and
containing Mtb. Of the many bacteria inhaled, macrophages are able to kill some, while the others

A pro inflammatory response triggered by infected macrophages causes recruitment of the
mononuclear cells at the site of infection. The T cells interact with the macrophages and activate them
by releasing the cytokine, IFN . Activated macrophages are more efficient at killing Mtb. At this
stage of infection, antigen presentation also activates B cells which produce antibodies against Mtb. A
consolidated mass of infected host cells and immune cells forms a granuloma. The granuloma consists
of infected macrophages, foamy macrophages that contain stored oil droplets which serve as the
bacterial nutrition, T cells, B cells in the earlier stages. When the bacillary load becomes static, the
infection is said to be latent . Early stages of granuloma formation also witnesses vascularisation and
supply of blood through newly developed blood capillaries. The granuloma is lined by epithelial cells
and fibrous tissue in the later stages. The core of the granuloma is hypoxic (Vandiviere et al., 1956;
Via et al., 2008). Granulomas can be resolved due to the action of immune system. With suppression
of the immune system due to ageing, HIV infection or malnutrition, the containment of the bacteria

Fall Of The Romanov Dynasty Essay
The Romanovs were a dynasty that reigned Russia for three centuries between the years of 1613 to
1917. The Romanovs had a prominent role in Russia ruling as any other would following custom
however, once the last tsar took over the empire things began to take a turn for the worst. There are
several factors that could take responsibility for the fall of the Romanovs which include: resistance
from the people, incompetent rulers, political and economic complications that began to arise.
The tsars were no longer able to satisfy the desires of the people. The people had high expectations of
the dynasty that Nicolas was just not able to deliver. Conferring to the text The tsar s government had
lost touch with the people not the 120 million peasants but with the few thousand in the immediate
entourage of the dynasty and the essential bureaucrats (). To be quite specific it was members of the
duma who were dissatisfied with the way things were being handled. They were an advisory body
who sought great changes in the Russian empire.

Taking on the responsibility of ruling an empire is a task that requires someone who is passionate and
willing to adjust to change. One must be able to take advice from others in areas that they may need
assist with because they may not be as experienced. However, Nicolas II refused to take on those
actions or even display those characteristics. The two factors of the decline of the empire: resistance
from the people and incompetent rulers pretty much go hand and hand; when there is not a competent
ruler the people will not be happy. Being a ruler means that people look up to you to make changes
and address issues as they come. As individuals began to grow weary of Nicolas ability to rule them,
they started to protest and

Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And The Sweet...
The book, The Sweet Revenge of Celia Door contains similarities and differences to F. Scott
Fitzgerald s book, The Great Gatsby . Both books present the theme of identity and gender and
individuality throughout their story. One similarity both of the books have is how the two characters in
the books represent the holder of power, control, and the desire to have popularity and fame to make
their lives worth living. In relation to the similarity, a difference that as well exists which is the hold of
power in Great Gatsby is Jay Gatsby whereas the hold of power mainly in the book is Sandy
Firestone. For example, in Great Gatsby, again women are basically dependent on men, men are
earning and making money for women or better as how men are in charge of everything and . In in the

Theme Of Social Norms In The Tempest
Whether one realizes it or not, the world we live in is governed by certain expectations and unwritten
rules that our society creates. These expected behaviors are called norms. When one establishes the
role that they play in society, they are governed by the expectations that society places on that specific
role. Norms give order to a society, but is that enough to say that they are good for citizens? Are these
norms needed to govern our behavior in a way that our government cannot? Social norms and the
effect that they can have on a person or group of people is shown through Shakespeare s The Tempest.
The characters in The Tempest are negatively affected by the unwritten social norms that they are
expected to follow, and today these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He encouraged two other men to join him, Stephano, a butler, and Trinculo, a jester. All three of these
men shared one thing in common: a low place in society. In an effort to free themselves from society s
pressure, the men plotted to murder Prospero. Stephano says, Monster, I will kill this man: his
daughter and I will be king and queen, save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself shall be viceroys (Act
3 Scene 2 Lines 106 108). Before they got the chance to kill, Prospero caught them, proving society s
power, once again, to be too strong. Many times, Stephano and Trinculo talked about how they would
break from their low place in society. At the end of the story, however, they find themselves stuck
under King Alonso s power, just as they were before the shipwreck. Despite all of their efforts,
Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban all were stuck in their low place in society. In the same fashion,
Prospero had also been told by society that the only way he could live a good and prosperous life was
to get his dukedom back. Without this fancy title, society convinced Prospero that he was unimportant.
Prospero had the whole island to himself, a slave, a magical spirit, and his daughter, but yet, society
tells Prospero that this was not enough. During the play Prospero said, Now my charms are all o
erthrown, And what strength I have s mine own, Which is most faint (Act 4 Scene 1 lines 320 322).

Case based essay-Phillips Seafood
In this case, Ron Birch, product manager for the new pasteurized king crab of Phillips Foods, needs to
make a decision for the phase II of launch of king crab. He planned to continue the magazine strategy
used in phase I, but Cherry Stockworth, vice president of marketing of Phillips Foods, recommended
him to use the budget to support half of cost of International Boston Seafood Show. According to the
information given in this case, I don t think this is an either or choice, and my recommendation for
Ron Birch is to decrease the cost of ads in trade magazines, change the content of ads in magazines
before and after the IBSS, and support the IBSS in March
SWOT Analysis of King Crab of Phillips related to Trade Show
Before analyzing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The king crab of Phillips belongs to fresh seafood, which means it has huge market potential.
Customers tend to buy food that is easy cooked and fresh, which is a feature of the king crab product.
The IBSS is a nation wide trade show which could attract a lot of exhibitors and attendance. Making
use of this platform could help Phillips to build its reputation and promote its products at the same
time.
Threat: Just because the IBSS could attract a large amount of exhibitors, the competition during the
trade show is fierce. Though there are so many potential customers would appear at the trade show,
how could Phillips beat the competitors and attracts enough customers to its booth. Another threat for
king crab is the possible rejection of the retailers because they would feel risky to replace an old
product with a new product.
Pros and Cons of Alternative Strategies
Trade advertising strategy
Pros: Trade magazine is one of the most important sources for decision makers and they will spend
relatively long time in reading magazines. This strategy would cost less than trade show strategy and
would reach broader potential customers.
Cons: Effectiveness for brand building and lead generation of ads on magazines are 50.2% and 47.4%,
lower than effectiveness of trade show, which are 60.9% and 62.6%. The rate of readers call Phillips

Chemtrails Conspiracy Theories
Chemtrails is a conspiracy that everyone has been thinking about, and has been getting more and more
paranoid for. Conspiracy theorists have been coming up with theories ever since the late 1900 s, and
are still coming up with them today. These theorists have come up with many different theories about
this conspiracy, Chemtrails, some think that they are chemicals sprayed to help the human race
survive, some say that Chemtrails are to help protect the earth from global warming, and some say that
they are a gel like substance that makes people ill, and the government would do this to help with
depopulation, and to test a new bioweapon for war, but it could, and most likely is just airplane

Dr. Cole had allegedly analyzed the substance and discovered that it contained human blood cell and
psuedonomas fluorescens an experimental bacterium for bio warfare. This town received even more
attention when the people started to report anonymous officials had arrived in town claiming to be
intelligence personnel from fort hood, Texas, the citizens said that they were frequently visited and
asked about their health. They were told not to contact any broadcasters, which they immediately did.
(Burnett 128) Another accident happened in the same year, William Wallace from kettle falls,
Washington, claimed that he was sprayed with a mist while ploughing his fields, and fell ill. Wallace
had become so sick that he lost his job, and his cat died. Wallace apparently also tried to sell his story
to CBS. The military might have conducted these experiments, but there is no definite evidence to
back up these stories. On December 8, 2000, Terry Stewart, the manager for planning and

of circles and grids, being formed over the British Columbia capitol. Stewart left a message, which
was later heard by more than 15 million people listening on the radio. The message said It s a military

The Struggle for Power in The Yellow Wallpaper, Daddy,...
American Literature
9 March 2013
The Struggle for Power in The Yellow Wallpaper, Daddy, and Editha Charlotte Perkins Gilman s
piece, The Yellow Wallpaper (written in 1890, published in 1892), is a semi autobiographical piece
that, although believed to be a result of her severe postpartum depression, illustrates the difficulties
faced by women during the Women s Movement. These difficulties are further illustrated by the
similarly semi autobiographical poem, based on Plath s father and husband, Daddy by Sylvia Plath
(written in 1962, published in 1965). These gender roles are then reversed in Editha, (written in 1898,
published in 1905) which has been said to be William Dean Howells s response to the Spanish
American War. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initial description of this woman is of her stooping down and creeping about. The woman in the
wallpaper is a direct reflection of the narrator s confidence and feelings of inferiority, and the change
they undergo. Initially, the woman in the wall symbolizes the narrator s fear of presenting herself and
her opinions, and being her husband s equal. She begins to display a building confidence in herself,
and an almost amused view of John s orders. When John tells her that she seems to be doing well, in
spite of the wallpaper, she has to stop herself from openly laughing. It is at this point, where she is
building confidence in herself, that she begins to see the woman in the wallpaper more clearly. She
states, I think that woman gets out in the daytime! And I ll tell you why privately I ve seen her!
symbolizing her confidence beginning to emerge. Finally, she allows herself to be fully confident; she
allows her mind to fully explore the wallpaper. The lines, then I peeled off all the paper I could reach
standing on the floor. It sticks horribly and the pattern just enjoys it, symbolizes the destruction of that
which limits her. One may argue that she has had a psychotic break, but the intention of these lines is
to show the narrator gaining confidence. As Gilman says herself in an article submitted to the October
1913 issue of The Forerunner regarding her treatment: then, using the remnants of intelligence that
remained [...] I cast the noted

Sixteen and Pregnant with My Son
I was 16, pregnant, on my own. In just 1 week I was expected to give birth to a baby boy that would
change my life forever. I had no family, was on my own but somehow still found the strength in me to

I have birth to our son. When he got to my house I gave him a mean look because he was 20 min late
then he said he was. Sorry I had a huge argument with my mom before I left the house. Damontre

The Opposition to Polish Immigrants in the US
Reflective Essay
Introduction
Triggering Event: Immigrants in the United States from Polish ethnicity have not been warmly
received in many instances, and in fact immigrants from Poland often struggle with issues like
language and legal status. While much of the focus of the news media zeros in on the issues and
problems related to immigrants crossing the border from Mexico, there are other immigrants like those
from Poland that also have their problems and issues. As a result of the problems many Polish
immigrants experience, there seems to be a movement wherein many of these immigrants are
returning to Europe.
Transition Paragraph
Thesis: I have first hand knowledge of these issues and problems that confront Polish immigrants
because I am an immigrant from Poland. I personally have struggled with the language (English), with
some discriminating actions against me, with my own status in the United States, and I fully realize
that without an education I will be like many Polish immigrants and return to Europe where conditions
and benefits are better for me. Moreover, the economy in the United States is in a downturn and that
has negatively impacted immigrants from many parts of the world, including Poland. In Poland, I will
not have to be embarrassed by assertions that Polish immigrants don t pay taxes, or don t deserve a
good job because they are not native born Americans.

Essay On Mentoring
These last two weeks of mentoring have been going very smoothly for me. I feel as if my peer
mentoring gears are finally revving up as I m starting to understand how to be a successful peer
mentor. The reason, I think, for my recent success as a peer mentor and the collaboration with the peer
mentoring team is due to the weekly articles. With the weekly articles, I m able to realize what made
previous collaborations in my life so successful and what made the more unfavorable groups
unsuccessful. This has allowed me to focus more on the successful traits by having the knowledge of
it in my mind and steer away from the bad traits. These successful traits would be the three ingredients

In all of my past successful collaborations, each member had a mutual respect for each other, enjoyed
each other presence, and worked together in an appropriate manner. To contrast this: in a previous
group that performed not successfully, it was due to internal conflict between my partner and me.
There was an obvious tension between us that made me want to disprove or reject any idea they would
suggest, even if it was good. Although we managed to put aside our differences to finish the project,
not many positive memories remained from that collaboration other than the negativity and
awkwardness between us. I understand how tension in a group could harm the collaboration as it may
lead to the rejection of positive ideas or worse case scenario, sabotaging the project. Working in an
atmosphere of stress definitely does not promote insightful and efficient learning. To summarize my
second reflection, I have learned the importance of the three ingredients for a successful collaboration.
Through elaborating on how each ingredient relates to an event in my life, I believe it further
strengthened my appreciation for both the article and collaborating in general. I plan to enforce these
ingredients in future group projects as it ll allow me to truly collaborate and

Extraterrestrial Life Exist Essay
Imagine that out of the infinite stars and planets in the vast universe, only one solitary planet can
sustain life. Heavily disputed arguments have arisen about whether humans are the sole intelligent
beings in the universe. Scientists continuously search for the answer, but the search has not as yet
yielded positive results. Billions of dollars have been spent in research, causing controversy about
whether scientists should invest in the hunt for extraterrestrial beings. Due to inadequate technology,
humans cannot currently identify whether extraterrestrial life exists, leading to arguments that
scientists should refrain from searching for them. Findings on Earth and other planets suggest
extraterrestrial life could live in outer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since odd creatures are found in environments similar to Europa s on Earth, then life can possibly
survive on the moon. Experts cannot rule out life under the ice on Europa, because of the similarities
to the Earth s environment. Therefore, they must carry on researching. Even though finding similar
environments to inhabitable areas on the Earth is helpful, it may hold little importance when
discovering life. Open University s Preston says, Most of the environments we used to think were
sterile are proving to have life. Every time we think we ve found somewhere on Earth that life can t
survive in, we go and find a part of life that can (Fecht). This could be true on other planets as well, so
scientists do not have to look for planets with similar environments to Earth. Aliens may have adapted
to a different environment than Earth s. Scientists have discovered living beings in places on Earth
which seemed unlivable, so if humans look at planets that seem uninhabitable they may find life as
well. Once again, with this new knowledge, scientists should proceed in searching for extraterrestrials.
Although some evidence suggests that extraterrestrial life exists in outer space, some evidence proves
otherwise. Lack of valid evidence and economic consequences associated with the search for
extraterrestrials discourages scientists to continue with the investigation. It is possible that if humans
ever find aliens, it could be

In space, outside of the protection of the Earth s magnetosphere which blocks 99.9% of damaging
radiation17, large amounts of radiation from solar flares and coronal mass ejections can reach
astronauts. The damaging effects of radiation varies depending on the amount of exposure. Radiation
can either ionize water inside cells and these ionized water molecules can react with DNA or radiation
can directly hit the DNA molecules. Either way damage is done to the DNA. Damaged DNA, if not
repaired, can lead to mutated cells that can result in cancer. Higher levels of radiation can lead to
radiation sickness and death13. Radiation can also cause central nervous system damage which can
cause neurological disorders, Alzheimer s disease, motor function damage and even behavioral
changes. Effects of radiation can also be similar to rapid aging14. Of the physiological effects of space
travel, damage from radiation can cause the longest term and most deadly harm. Currently limits are
set on the levels of radiation an astronaut can get in their lifetime based on how their chance for cancer
will increase. But for deep space missions, it won t be possible to follow the current guidelines15.

Before the American Civil War began in 1861, a number of northern states also allowed or required
segregated schools. However, throughout the 19th century more than ninety five percent of all blacks
lived in the South, so segregation there affected an overwhelming majority of America s black
population. After the Civil War ended in 1865, and especially after the end of Reconstruction in 1877,
the South continued to segregate its schools and other facilities. In the influential case of Plessy v.
Ferguson (1896) the Supreme Court upheld the practice of segregation as long as the separate facilities
were equal. By 1900, the South was an entirely segregated society. In 1909 blacks and whites, led by
W. E. B. DuBois and Arthur and Joe Spingarn, formed the National Association for the Advancement

segregation. The NAACP challenged segregation through its Legal Defense and Education Fund.
From 1936 to 1950 the organization won a number of cases leading to the desegregation of law
schools and other professional schools at segregated universities in Mississippi, Maryland, Oklahoma,

to pay teachers in black schools at the same rate as those in white schools. But throughout the South,

early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same job. This shows the
difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market; The primary market being
which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also had an impact on the workforce by
immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women would, sometimes being rejected from any
job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so closely supervised because women women who were
closely supervised were not able to organize. Also, they were supervised since that idea appealed to
many parents who would send their daughters to the mills. Some parents would send their daughters to
the mills because they could barely provide for their children. Not many jobs were for women at the
time, especially those that paid a so called good wage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The economy and industry has grown a lot in the United States since the 1800 s, examples such as
blacks being able to have a wide range of options for job seeking along with women who gained the

different ways of looking at things and have different needs/wants. Overall, I believe the union
membership will fluctuate as the economy does. For example, during a depression in the U.S.
economy the unemployment rate goes down and people lose jobs, which will cause more people to
want to join the labor union as a part of hopefully gaining their job back or influencing

Ovid And Tibullus
How and Whom Do We Love?
Roman poets Ovid, Catullus, Propertius, and Tibullus, all define love in a similar way. All four poets
describe love as being unrequited and sexual, with Ovid, Catullus and Tibullus being more erotic.
Though they all are in love with their mistresses, they describe verbal and physical signs of abuse
within the same timeframe of describing their passions. How can the two be connected when so vastly
apart? Ovid writes about the same type of puella as Catullus, Propertius, and Tibullus. Ovid, Catullus,
and Propertius make us question if the puella they describe is their mistress or just a fantasy. What
makes them a real person? What keeps them a fantasy?

As Catullus talks about Lesbia s beloved pet dying, we are led to believe that Lesbia is his girlfriend.
He speaks in great detail about her relationship with her pet sparrow. Surely Lesbia is as least his
girlfriend, if not his wife. We soon learn that Catullus is making a fool of himself. Though at some
point is appears that Lesbia returned his love, it is clear now that she does not as she tells him no. He
is left to prepare himself to be rigid against Lesbia. Propertius heart burns for Cynthia. He leads us to
believe that she returned his love at some time in which he was amongst those who are happy in love.
Cynthia then makes it clear in a formal letter that she does not share his feelings of love.
Each poet, Ovid, Catullus, Propertius, and Tibullus, has a puella that they are in love, or lust with.
Their puellas share similarities with each other. Some of them more than others. The similarity that
they all share is that each puella is described as a mistress. Or are they a fantasy? One cannot help but
envision the beauty these women bestow. Ovid talks of Corinna s hair tumbling down on each side of
her neck. He also goes into detail to describe her perfect body to us. Propertius also talks about
Cynthia s hair when he discusses forming curls with her loose hair. Is the visualization of hair enough

Analysis Of Doublespeak By William Lutz
language. Lutz begins the persuasive essay with a sarcastic tone. He distinguishes the use of
doublespeak with quotation marks. He starts off each sentence without the use of doublespeak and
ends with how doublespeak perceives the situation to be rather than the reality. Lutz states, The
Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s
fees. (Lutz line 1 3) He shows how taxes was changed to something different in order to mislead the
public. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different
situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz
continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He
states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its
real or purported meaning. (Lutz line10 11) This shows that it is at a whole other level that has to be
deciphered to be able to understand and also suggests that can be difficult to capture. Lutz also uses
repetition to give the definition. He states, It is the incongruity between the word and referent,
between seem and be, between the essential function of language... (Lutz line 15 16) This emphasizes
the length of the effect doublespeak can have. Lutz begins to structure his essay into subsections to
further explain doublespeak. The first subsection focuses on How to Spot Doublespeak. He

Hansson Private Label, Inc.:
Evaluating an Investment in Expansion
Introduction
On a frigid Sunday night in late February 2008, Tucker Hansson pored over a proposal developed by
his firm s manufacturing team. It called for investing $50 million to expand production capacity at
Hansson Private Label (Hansson or HPL). For Hansson, a private company, this would be a significant
investment. The company had not initiated a project of that magnitude for more than a decade, and the
expansion wasn t without significant risk. It would be likely to double HPL s debt and to greatly
increase customer concentration. This was a critical juncture for the firm Tucker ... Show more content

Hansson was seeking to capitalize on what he saw as the nascent but powerful trend of private label
products increasing their share of consumer products sales. Although the concentration of his wealth
into a single investment was risky, Hansson believed he was paying significantly less than
replacement costs for the assets and he was confident that private label growth would continue
unabated.
Hansson s assessment of private label growth prospects proved to be prescient, and his unrelenting
focus on manufacturing efficiency, expense management, and customer service had turned HPL into a
success. HPL now counted most of the major national and regional retailers as customers. Hansson
had expanded conservatively, never adding significant capacity until he had clear enough visibility of
the sales pipeline to ensure that any new facility would commence operations with at least 60%
capacity utilization. He now had four plants, all operating at more than
90% of capacity. He had also maintained debt at a modest level to contain the risk of financial distress
in the event that the company lost a big customer. HPL s mission had remained the same: to be a
leading provider of high quality private label personal care products to America s leading retailers.

How History Has Shaped The World
From the beginning of time, humans have been developing physically and mentally into the brightest
and most successful beings on earth. We ve discovered lands, invented medicines and technology, and
endured through catastrophic episodes. Everything we use in our daily lives has evolved from its
original state. Some life changing events occurred last year, or maybe centuries ago. Most people
couldn t care less how, why, when, and where occasions were taken place and think learning about the
past is useless, but I have to disagree. As a student who has been taking social studies classes since the
1st grade, I believe learning about historical people and events that have shaped the world into being
what it is today, is important. History is very important to me because it dwells within the past and
tells its events so thoroughly that you can almost imagine yourself living in that period. Plus, knowing
the tragedies and mistakes made in the past had and still helps us build a fair and just lifestyle.

Essay On Health Disparity In African American Men
The higher incidence of prostate cancer in African American/Black men compared to other
racial/ethnic groups is a major health disparity. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are
scary, with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and
a prostate cancer incidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African
American men s incidence of prostate cancer is a huge problem from a public health perspective
because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare field
than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men
because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. One behavioral influence ... Show more content

A biological influence on this health disparity is a genetic predisposition seen in African American
men. Several studies have shown a chromosome that is more common in African American men that
increases the risk of prostate cancer. The chromosome is 8q24 variants, which is the most commonly
seen, as well as, BCL2 and EphB2 linking to a higher incidence of prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012).
The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate cancer to be a more aggressive
disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality rates. The behavioral influence of
being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a genetic predisposition interact to
influence the health disparity. There is no way of changing the genetic predisposition so that already
puts African American men in a place for higher incidence. Being they already have that higher
incidence due to genetics, adding into the equation African Americans being less likely to be screened

England Throughout History
England. What is the first word you think of when you hear, England? You may think of their history
and its effect. Another thought that could be is London. London is the capital and heart of England
that has its own history. Throughout history England has contributed so much, good and bad. With that
contribution England is one of the well most known country that is known for poise, history, and
tradition.
English history began in 500,000 BC with a boxgrove man from West Sussex. He was the first human

Roman control lasted for 400 years. From 449 550 Jutes, Angles, and Saxons arrived in England and
took control. In the beginning of the ninth century the Vikings came and invaded England. The
Vikings controlled North and East England. In 897 Alfred the great defeated the vikings living in
England. Another important date in England s history is 1067 when the Tower of London began being
structured. (England. China: CTSP, 2010. Print) In 1154 Henry II becomes the king. The next king,

Ex Machina Analysis
As technology rapidly advances, the notion of artificial intelligence is becoming less of a science
fiction pipe dream, and more of a reality for our future. In his film, Ex Machina, Alex
Garland takes a thoughtful approach to the question of what it is to be an artificially conscious being.
Throughout the movie, Ava demonstrates many human like behaviors, yet nothing to indicate that she
is clearly conscious.
Nathan s ultimate test for Ava s sentience is whether she develops any actual feelings for
Caleb or attempts to manipulate Caleb into letting her escape. Nathan explains that to do either of
these she must use self awareness, imagination, sexuality, and empathy to get Caleb to like her
(Ex Machina 1:15). While Ava did demonstrate many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, Ava explains to Caleb her first drawing is of what she sees when she closes her eyes (Ex
Machina 0:26). While Pollock s painting was created through emotion and feeling with no actual
thought going into it, Ava s painting was entirely pre visualized; she painted exactly what she sees
when she closes her eyes. While seemingly inconsequential, Garland uses the paintings to convey the
idea that the human mind and artificial mind are very different and ultimately do not function in the
same way. While the conscious mind can act on emotional sensation, the programmed mind can only
act on observation. Garland further emphasizes this point through the film s setting. Nathan s house is
a sleek, futuristic laboratory in the middle of a lush forest. Garland uses this stark contrast in setting to
represent differing origins, the forest where humans evolved and the lab where AI was created. Once
again, these completely different settings gave rise to two very different forms of intelligence, the
innate, sentient consciousness of the human mind, and the programmed, unfeeling intelligence of Ava.
Alex Garland demonstrates in his film what he believes it means to be a conscious

Mascot Analysis
Rationale, explanation of interest, or area of focus
This analysis will focus on the importance of mascots for the selected institutions and how they relate
to the normal livelihoods of the students in both universities. The term mascot is used to refer to an
animal, a person or object that is believed to bring some sense of good luck in various perspectives. It
is a term and phenomenon that has been consistently used through history to relate to the success of
various institutional activities, especially in the sports arena. Institutions with mascots tend to have a

Since then, the institution has passed a joint ideology about the nocturnal bird to its students with

goddess Athena, who is mythically known for her wisdom, knowledge, arts, skills and precision in
warfare. From nature s perspective, the owl is deemed a resourceful, perceptive, courageous and fierce
fighter. These attributes have been prescribed to the university students for years with an objective of
building a learning culture in the institution. The main problem noted with the perception created for

James Cone Essay
A Black Theology of Liberation
By James H. Cone
Christian theology is a theology of liberation. It is a rational study of the being of God in the world in
light of existential situations of an oppressed community, relating the forces of liberation to the
essence of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ. (pp. 1) James H. Cone stresses the idea that theology is
not universal, but tied to specific historical contexts. In A Black Theology of
Liberation James, Cone explains what Black theology is and uses the Exodus story, found in the
Old Testament and the life of Jesus Christ, New Testament, to give examples of the oppression and
liberation. Cone believes both stories are vital and necessary in understanding God and
God s relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be able to attain true freedom they must destroy all of their whiteness, become black, and try with
every means possible to bring about the liberation of their new community. The oppression African
Americans have felt through slavery and discrimination have made them God s chosen people, so
understanding God and his will cannot be done independent of understanding their community. In
fact, understanding the God of Black theology, the only true theology as Cone sees it, is not possible
by white people as they are oppressors and it is not possible for them to understand the oppressed
community and their condition or to understand the nature of God, as he is the God of the oppressed.
In Cones discussion on Black theology he critique White theology, the theology of oppressors because
even the historic Black church has been controlled by White theology and the wrongs of this theology
must be shown and realized so that the true Black theology can be followed. Cone frames a theology
of liberation from within the context of the Black experience of oppression, understanding the central
core of the Gospels as Jesus identification with the poor and oppressed and the resurrection as the
ultimate act of liberation.
In Chapter 6, Cone digs deep into the New Testament and uses the New Testament as evidence on
Jesus relationship to the oppressed. James Cone believed that the New

The Legality And Morality Of Abortion
The legality and morality of abortion is a huge topic in today s society. Are there ever times when it is
justified? Who has a say in the matter of whether or not it is justified? How does one know how to
justify abortion? Given a particular pregnancy, who should decide whether or not it ought to be
terminated? (Jaggar, 218) People argue over whether or not the unborn child has the right to life or
does the woman have the right to her own body. Other party s possibly involved are the state, medical
practitioners performing the abortion, and, of course, the father. There are clearly several parties that
have a stake in being involved in the decision.
In this paper I will be analyzing an article written by one woman that believes that there do exist
conditions under which the termination of a pregnancy could be justified. Furthermore she believes
that the right to that decision making belongs to the woman bearing the unborn child. In her article she
choses not to include utilitarian arguments for two reasons, first because, according to her, most of
them support her argument. Her second reason was that the main opposing utilitarian argument would
likely result in the involuntary termination of pregnancies by the state for reasons of population
control in todays society. Not only are there many people that might have a say in whether or not an
abortion should be performed but also there are many circumstances that could have an impact upon

Special Considerations for Branch Office Deployments
Microsoft has identified a number of special considerations for deploying Active Directory in branch
office environments. The characteristics of a branch office environment include:
• A large number of physical locations that need to contain replicas of Active Directory data. • A
small number of users per location. • A hub and spoke network topology where many branch offices
rely on connectivity to a centralized hub site for communications to other parts of the organization. •
Slow network connectivity between the branch office locations and the hub site.
Because of the ramifications of these requirements, Microsoft has developed additional content
focused on deploying Active Directory in branch office environments. The Active Directory Branch

Newton s Accomplishments
Newton was a scientist who worked independently to explore and invent new things in relation to
science and mathematics. He is the one who uncovered the law of gravity and assorted the three laws

math known as calculus. Newton was also the first scientist to come up with an accurate and proper

In 1666, Newton got inspired to find out about gravity when he saw an apple fall to the ground from a

Obviously, Dee s family is not who is actually oppressing her. Dee oppresses herself in many ways by
the limitations that she puts on herself with her family and new lifestyle. All of the choices she
decides, to make herself a more well rounded person, to better fit into society, end up making her a
deplorable person because of the harm that it has on her family. Literary critic Mary Helen
Washington believes Dee is an example of a stereotypical assimilated women who alienates them self
from their roots, and cuts them self off from real contact with their own people and their inner self

Aicpa s Code Of Professional Conduct Analysis
Holly, your thread aligns with much of what Jacob and I also covered. Ironically, such agreement is
alignment with I Corinthians 1:10 which says, Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord

professionals, but the code also sets boundaries for accounting professionals interactions with the

of integrity which encompasses courage, honesty, trust, and confidentiality (Keller, Smith, K., Smith,

in the AICPA s code which attest that Integrity is measured in terms of what is right and just (2014, p.

Transition To Adulthood In The 1970 s
Despite lowering the age to vote and drink in the 1970 s, Australia continued the practice of giving a
key too 21 year olds on their birthday, symbolising their coming of age , and with it, the underlying
expectation of respect and the adherence of social norms, just as how to act appropriately in public.
Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to adulthood was defined by, and adult
identity rooted in, the attainment of spousal status with the formation of a family to follow (Kenyon
Heath 2001b). Adulthood was steeped in the achievement of material symbols; marriage, houses and
children (McNamara Connell 2007). While it was evident in my interviews that the attainment of such

75% of my respondents that despite their desire to travel, even if they wanted to, they wouldn t be able
to afford to buy a home before they reached 30. After the second World War, Australia was
overwhelmed by policies that encouraged home ownership and families as individual units (Sharman
1984). Since such a time when housing was booming, home ownership, particularly in Sydney, has
become gradually unattainable (McNamara Connell 2007). Since the 1980 s the percentage of young
people aged 20 24 in Australia living in shared arrangements doubled (Burke, Pinkey Ewing 2002),
making apparent that other forms of household were inaccessible. This, I believe, reflects escalated
housing prices, interest rates and land value. Furthermore, in 1980 26% of young people aged 20 24 in
Australia lived alone, and by 2000, only 9.3% were living alone (Burke, Pinkey Ewing 2002). Thus,
despite Australia s economic geography, shared living has since become an attractive and viable
option for not only economically constrained students but also young single professionals with the
promise of friendship and mutual support (economic or otherwise) (Clark Tuffin 2015). Half of the
participants had moved into a shared household with a person or people they had met before, though
60% of the group hoped that they would make new

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of Senior Citizens
We live in a world where stereotypes tend to affect the way society sees some people. There are many
stereotypes about every ethnicities characteristic. What is a stereotype? Well a stereotype is an idea
that people have about a group or thing that may be untrue or true. Many confuse the word cliché and
stereotype since they have a bit of similarities. They both come from French and have a negative
meaning to its definition. Cliché is used as an expression that is overly used with no originality to it
and stereotypes tend to be the same but have more negativity towards its phrases. In America, I have
heard plenty of stereotypes whether it being about Mexicans, Asians, or African Americans. I have
recently started to hear stereotypes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hassell and Pamela L. Perrewe who both work in the department of Management. This article
examines the beliefs about older workers and focuses more on the relationship of the individuals.
Their study considered the interactions, demographic variables (gender, educational level, ethnicity,
income level) and the position of the individual who looks over the employees towards the older
workers. This article mentions how older people hold a positive outlook when applying for a job but it
did also say that the younger people have a much more outlook on the older people. Numbers show
otherwise since older workers have filed lawsuits due to the discrimination that some have
encountered when applying for a job. The numbers have continued to rise but since the average age
has increased in the work industry many companies will realize that employing older workers is key
due to their experiences and knowledge they have gained from previous jobs. The author makes a
claim that the more experienced older workers may overcome the stereotype that is labeled on them. If
more companies tend to hire older workers and not fall into the stereotypes that many employers
believe in, then it will be outdated. The stereotype being outdated can lead to a more truthful
perception about older workers. There have been three studies from Britton and Thomas that
perceived older workers to be less

A New Form Of Inhumane Exploitation
Human rights organizations, as well as political and social ones, are condemning what they are calling
a new form of inhumane exploitation in the United States, where they say a prison population of up to
2 million mostly Black and Hispanic are working for various industries for a pittance. For the tycoons
who have invested in the prison industry, it has been like finding a pot of gold. They don t have to
worry about strikes or paying unemployment insurance, vacations or comp time. All of their workers

The notorious Parchman plantation existed until 1972.
During the post Civil War period, Jim Crow racial segregation laws were imposed on every state, with
legal segregation in schools, housing, marriages and many other aspects of daily life. Today, a new set
of markedly racist laws is imposing slave labor and sweatshops on the criminal justice system, now
known as the prison industry complex, comments the Left Business Observer.
Who is investing? At least 37 states have legalized the contracting of prison labor by private
corporations that mount their operations inside state prisons. The list of such companies contains the
cream of U.S. corporate society: IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT T, Wireless, Texas Instrument,
Dell, Compaq, Honeywell, Hewlett Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, 3Com, Intel, Northern
Telecom, TWA, Nordstrom s, Revlon, Macy s, Pierre Cardin, Target Stores, and many more. All of
these businesses are excited about the economic boom generation by prison labor. Just between 1980
and 1994, profits went up from $392 million to $1.31 billion. Inmates in state penitentiaries generally
receive the minimum wage for their work, but not all; in Colorado, they get about $2 per hour, well
under the minimum. And in privately run prisons, they receive as little as 17 cents per hour for a
maximum of six hours a day, the equivalent of $20 per month.

The Importance Of Censorship Of Music
Music is a form of art. An art that has been around ever since the beginning of time. It is arguably
considered to be the universal language of this world. Music is what connects the hearts and feelings
of one another regardless of race, color, and religious backgrounds. Art is used to express oneself. It
also has the power to motivate and influence others. Throughout the years, music has evolved and
transformed in many ways. However, there are restrictions in today s music, otherwise known as,
censorships. There is a large crisis occurring regarding these censorships. This argument consists of
two possible stances: one, supporting the continuation of the censorship of music, and two,
eliminating the status quo of censorships in the music industry. There have been countless debates and
arguments regarding the issues of censorship since 1927 when the U.S. Congress passed the Radio Act
(The History). The time has come for the censored in today s music to be disable. The government
should release their grip on the censorship of music for the following reasons: censorship restricts an
artist s ability to convey his or her message toward the listeners, it limits an artist s capacity for
creativity, and it diminishes the audience s appreciation of the content in the music.
First of all, the concept of censorships severely limits an artist s ability to fully express his or herself
through the art of music. Musicians typically sing about their values and issues. For this reason,

Naval Officer Research Paper
Naval officer is an Honor that not many get to claim. Becoming one would bring a never ending Joy
to me and my family. While I was younger I would have grown ups in my family always asking, What
do you want to be when you grow up Akin? my answer was always I don t know yet. As I began to
mature, I started researching what I wanted to do as in after high school. I definitely had college in my
plans because, I knew what I was capable of doing, but as for a career, a life path, that was still
uncertain to me. All members of my family being positive, active members of society, I knew the
precedent that they set and what I was expected to achieve. After several months of researching via
College Board and student testimonials and other sources I knew I wanted to do something with
political sciences, but career paths for social sciences are very broad there are many options and not
necessarily a specific career you have to pick. Not too long ago they called a few members of my

Erasmus Influence On Religion
Absolutely, the role of religion in the last thousand years of human history cannot be overstated. The
wager of wars and the builder of kingdoms, religion has been responsible for many great occurrences.
Nonetheless, religion, too, has nefarious potential. The rise of the Humanist movement meant the rise
of laicism, which also meant religion and its institutions were constantly challenged Christianity and
the Catholic Church largely came under fire due to mass corruption within the institution. Among
Christianity s critics was Desiderius Erasmus, arguably the first to oppose the Church and one of the
most influential writers of the Humanist period; his criticisms of the Catholic Church in The Praise of
Folly were derivative of his desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being an educated, Catholic man of piety himself, Erasmus could not be swept aside as a heretic, but
was acknowledged and instigated a great deal of distrust toward the Church from the middle class.
Though an intellectual, Erasmus struggled while attending the University of Paris because, as a
scholastic institution, he found it stifled his imagination. His Praise of Folly was first written in Latin,
not unusual given the period in which it was written, and Erasmus was recognized as having
considerable skill in writing Latin. Since many of the texts that come from antiquity are written in
Latin, a great deal effort is put into maintaining the integrity of the original text during its translation
to English. The narrative of The Praise of Folly may be divided into three main segments: firstly, Folly
introduces herself as the only she...whose divine influence makes gods and men rejoice, and the crude,
satirical nature of the work is established. She explains her fundamental role in all relationships,
reasoning that no one would be able to stand one another without her aid. The second section is where
the foolish banter ends and the criticisms begin; Folly chastises doctors, lawyers, grammarians, and
artists for their lack or excess of her essence, but above all she expresses her contempt for theologians.
Thirdly and finally, Folly addresses the idea that Christianity is a faith by and for fools, with Jesus
being the biggest fool of

Purge America Research Paper
The Purge America and your Mom Desperately Need
The amount of blood shed on United States soil is enough to shower all of the dirty children in Africa.
The rate at which the amount of blood falls onto our land, increases faster than the speed of your
obese mother reaching for a bag of gluten free potato chips. Murder has reached a pinnacle, crimes are
committed left and right. Family backstabbing family, friends killing friends, your mom shoving Big
Macs down her throat. America has evolved into a nation filled with bloodbaths.
Go big or go home. I believe we can solve the high murder rates and high cholesterol by holding all
citizens of the United States to a purge. It would be cheaper to kill everyone in a day and move on,
rather than spending an entire year filing homicide cases, crying over one dead person at a time. The
annual purge will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number of people per capita is rapidly increasing like the size of your mother s belly, and she s
not pregnant this time. If you are tired of your neighbour running over your lawn, stealing your mail,
and/or being noisy, you can annihilate them on March 14, with no legal consequences! With .003
percent of the world s water being usable left, we have to compete for our lives. To reduce the number
of people on Earth, kill them. Make it a game even, who can slay the most people?
The purge is great for so many reasons, not only does it help end overpopulation, but it would also
help relieve citizens of their sinful desires (regarding murder) and your mother s will to devour
hamburgers. Relieving the inner rages of citizens, would ultimately contribute to a society of lower
crime rate and stronger economy. It is projected that after the purge, unemployment rates would
plummet to 1%! Of course, the less people alive, the better possibility for jobs. For a small sacrifice of
purging once a year, you can prevent tens of thousands from dying in the near future, 364 days a

Marketing Principles For A Successful Business
In a world where we always want more, and what we have never seems to be enough. One desires
more, once basic needs are fulfilled. Human needs are basic requirements for maintaining life, such as,
air, food, water, shelter, and clothing. Wants are comforting and pleasurable. Wants are the desires that
are not essential to life, but makes life a little more enjoyable. Both are unlimited and endless. The
economy devotes business to satisfy one s wants, because one s basic needs are fulfilled. Although, a
person needs has been fulfilled one desires more. Needs, wants, and demands are a part of marketing
principles businesses use to obtain data. In order for businesses to make a profit, consumers must
spend. A successful business, pays attention to market research, surveys, reviews, and feedback. To
reinvent and improve the business, meeting consumers expectations and wants. From marketing
strategies, racy advertising, colorful bright billboards, to repetitive commercials. All intended to catch
one s eye and desire it, desire the need to have it, and most importantly buy it. US is the largest
producer of goods and services in the world, leaving us Americans as the leading consumer.
Businesses thrive when their products are sold, and that is how the economy flourishes. Consistently
creating a demand through superficial items, that consumers love. Why buy or drink plain filtered
water when one can drink Evian water? Why buy regular, plain toothpaste when one can have

The Causes And Effects Of Animal Abuse In The World
We are living in the world that everybody tries to have a better life. We try to have the comfortable
and convenient life for us. We are watching the circus and using them as the therapy to release stress
and depress. However, we don t know the fact that in order to make the circus become more complete,
they have to take away many animal s freedom. All those things is an example of animal abuse.
Animal abuse is the term that describes all the harmful acts toward animals which are harmed by
people either by intentional or unintentional. Other than our general understanding of animal abuse,
we will go through types of animal abuse, why human should care about it, and what should we do.
When people think of animal abuse, they often think of the video they saw where somebody harms a
dog, cat... In fact, animal abuse comes in many forms. Animal abuse includes eating the animal, circus
animal, producing cosmetic from inside the animal. We eat meat, that s the fact. However, the more
the technology grows, the more we seem to kill the animal in such a violent ways that people always
say: If you let all the kids go to the slaughter house, we will have a whole vegetarian generation. ( Wu
Ji Yiang). Circus or aquariums are also another form of animal abuse. We go there and see all types of
animals doing tricks, we have fun; but to train the animals to do that, they d have to go through a stage
where they are left starving. Trainers use whips, muzzles, tight collars, electric prods,

The Metamorphosis, By Bartleby, The Scrivener, And...
The Importance of Identity Identity plays an important role in a person s life. It determines how a
person lives, acts, communicates, and defines themselves in the world around them. During this
semester, we have read a handful of short stories that have to do with an individual s identity. Three of
those stories include, The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka; Bartleby, the Scrivener, by Herman
Melville; and Orientation, by Daniel Orozco. Each of these short stories gives examples of how your
work can influence a person s identity and attempt to remove the personal factor from everyday life.
Identity is established in a number of ways throughout each of these stories. In the first story, The
Metamorphosis, the main character, Gregor, has a moment where his identity changes in a literal
sense. Gregor is a hard working son who provides for his family as a traveling salesman, but suddenly
he wakes up one morning to find himself turned into a slimy, and horrifying insect. As his life is
dramatically altered, Gregor can only think of one thing; work. Even as Gregor is trying to force his
shell like figure out of his bed he says, Before it reaches a quarter past seven, I must absolutely be out
of bed without fail. Besides, by then someone from the office will be sent here to ask about me, since
it opens at seven (Kafka). Even though he has transformed into a hideous monster, he is only
concerned about the trouble he will be in at work, rather than his unique situation.

What Is The Frontier Hero In James Fenimore Cooper s Last...
The key traits of the frontier hero are simple, the frontier hero, represented by Hawkeye in James
Fenimore Cooper s Last of the Mohicans, is characterised by his ability to exist both in the realm of
nature and civilization, thus allowing him to master the wilderness and expand the frontier further,
creating America. In James Fenimore Cooper s version of the frontier hero, the element of race is
important and highlight exactly what Cooper believes a hero should be. In Cooper s literary reality
race dictates the opportunities and abilities of each of his characters, to firmly establish where these
traits originate and their place within civilization. On the lower end of the civilized spectrum is the
indigenous people that exist within the novel. Cooper provides the reader with ample description of
the Indian through Uncas and his father, who are characterised by Cooper to be the noble savages.
They are unable to participate within white settler society, but do possess a deep understanding of the
wilderness. Cooper regularly emphasizes their savage appearance that has an air of neglect , but also
characterizes them as individuals who can move noiselessly through the wilderness, like they are a
part of that uncivilized world (24). This characterization is contrasted with the representation of the
other end of the civilization spectrum Major Duncan Heyward. Major Duncan Heyward is depicted to
be a man of great civilized ability, but when cast into the wilderness is

  • 5. Macrophage Pathogen The success of a pathogen is not to kill its host but to infect the host in a way that it helps to transfer and hence propel the pathogen further. The host has its own mechanisms to contain the infection, like low pH (acidic pH in the phagolysosomes is crucial for the hydrolytic activity of the enzymes), temperature (fever is a common symptom due to a lot of infections), and inflammation. All this is well mediated by the host immune system. As Mtb is inhaled by a healthy individual, it is phagocytosed by the macrophages and dendritic cells in the lung alveoli. Macrophages, a part of the innate immunity, play a major role in killing and containing Mtb. Of the many bacteria inhaled, macrophages are able to kill some, while the others replicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A pro inflammatory response triggered by infected macrophages causes recruitment of the mononuclear cells at the site of infection. The T cells interact with the macrophages and activate them by releasing the cytokine, IFN . Activated macrophages are more efficient at killing Mtb. At this stage of infection, antigen presentation also activates B cells which produce antibodies against Mtb. A consolidated mass of infected host cells and immune cells forms a granuloma. The granuloma consists of infected macrophages, foamy macrophages that contain stored oil droplets which serve as the bacterial nutrition, T cells, B cells in the earlier stages. When the bacillary load becomes static, the infection is said to be latent . Early stages of granuloma formation also witnesses vascularisation and supply of blood through newly developed blood capillaries. The granuloma is lined by epithelial cells and fibrous tissue in the later stages. The core of the granuloma is hypoxic (Vandiviere et al., 1956; Via et al., 2008). Granulomas can be resolved due to the action of immune system. With suppression of the immune system due to ageing, HIV infection or malnutrition, the containment of the bacteria ... The Romanovs had a prominent role in Russia ruling as any other would following custom however, once the last tsar took over the empire things began to take a turn for the worst. There are several factors that could take responsibility for the fall of the Romanovs which include: resistance from the people, incompetent rulers, political and economic complications that began to arise. The tsars were no longer able to satisfy the desires of the people. The people had high expectations of the dynasty that Nicolas was just not able to deliver. Conferring to the text The tsar s government had lost touch with the people not the 120 million peasants but with the few thousand in the immediate entourage of the dynasty and the essential bureaucrats (). One must be able to take advice from others in areas that they may need assist with because they may not be as experienced. The two factors of the decline of the empire: resistance from the people and incompetent rulers pretty much go hand and hand; when there is not a competent ruler the people will not be happy. Both books present the theme of identity and gender and individuality throughout their story. These expected behaviors are called norms. When one establishes the role that they play in society, they are governed by the expectations that society places on that specific role. Norms give order to a society, but is that enough to say that they are good for citizens? Are these norms needed to govern our behavior in a way that our government cannot? Stephano says, Monster, I will kill this man: his daughter and I will be king and queen, save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself shall be viceroys (Act 3 Scene 2 Lines 106 108). Before they got the chance to kill, Prospero caught them, proving society s power, once again, to be too strong. Many times, Stephano and Trinculo talked about how they would break from their low place in society. At the end of the story, however, they find themselves stuck under King Alonso s power, just as they were before the shipwreck. Despite all of their efforts, Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban all were stuck in their low place in society. In the same fashion, Prospero had also been told by society that the only way he could live a good and prosperous life was to get his dukedom back. Without this fancy title, society convinced Prospero that he was unimportant. Prospero had the whole island to himself, a slave, a magical spirit, and his daughter, but yet, society tells Prospero that this was not enough. Customers tend to buy food that is easy cooked and fresh, which is a feature of the king crab product. The IBSS is a nation wide trade show which could attract a lot of exhibitors and attendance. Making use of this platform could help Phillips to build its reputation and promote its products at the same time. Threat: Just because the IBSS could attract a large amount of exhibitors, the competition during the trade show is fierce. Though there are so many potential customers would appear at the trade show, how could Phillips beat the competitors and attracts enough customers to its booth. Another threat for king crab is the possible rejection of the retailers because they would feel risky to replace an old product with a new product. Pros and Cons of Alternative Strategies Trade advertising strategy Pros: Trade magazine is one of the most important sources for decision makers and they will spend relatively long time in reading magazines. • 12. The Struggle for Power in The Yellow Wallpaper, Daddy,... American Literature 9 March 2013 The Struggle for Power in The Yellow Wallpaper, Daddy, and Editha Charlotte Perkins Gilman s piece, The Yellow Wallpaper (written in 1890, published in 1892), is a semi autobiographical piece that, although believed to be a result of her severe postpartum depression, illustrates the difficulties faced by women during the Women s Movement. These difficulties are further illustrated by the similarly semi autobiographical poem, based on Plath s father and husband, Daddy by Sylvia Plath (written in 1962, published in 1965). These gender roles are then reversed in Editha, (written in 1898, published in 1905) which has been said to be William Dean Howells s response to the Spanish American War. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial description of this woman is of her stooping down and creeping about. The woman in the wallpaper is a direct reflection of the narrator s confidence and feelings of inferiority, and the change they undergo. Initially, the woman in the wall symbolizes the narrator s fear of presenting herself and her opinions, and being her husband s equal. She begins to display a building confidence in herself, and an almost amused view of John s orders. When John tells her that she seems to be doing well, in spite of the wallpaper, she has to stop herself from openly laughing. It is at this point, where she is building confidence in herself, that she begins to see the woman in the wallpaper more clearly. She states, I think that woman gets out in the daytime! And I ll tell you why privately I ve seen her! symbolizing her confidence beginning to emerge. Finally, she allows herself to be fully confident; she allows her mind to fully explore the wallpaper. The lines, then I peeled off all the paper I could reach standing on the floor. It sticks horribly and the pattern just enjoys it, symbolizes the destruction of that which limits her. One may argue that she has had a psychotic break, but the intention of these lines is to show the narrator gaining confidence. • 14. The Opposition to Polish Immigrants in the US Reflective Essay Introduction Triggering Event: Immigrants in the United States from Polish ethnicity have not been warmly received in many instances, and in fact immigrants from Poland often struggle with issues like language and legal status. While much of the focus of the news media zeros in on the issues and problems related to immigrants crossing the border from Mexico, there are other immigrants like those from Poland that also have their problems and issues. As a result of the problems many Polish immigrants experience, there seems to be a movement wherein many of these immigrants are returning to Europe. Transition Paragraph Thesis: I have first hand knowledge of these issues and problems that confront Polish immigrants because I am an immigrant from Poland. • 15. Essay On Mentoring These last two weeks of mentoring have been going very smoothly for me. I feel as if my peer mentoring gears are finally revving up as I m starting to understand how to be a successful peer mentor. The reason, I think, for my recent success as a peer mentor and the collaboration with the peer mentoring team is due to the weekly articles. With the weekly articles, I m able to realize what made previous collaborations in my life so successful and what made the more unfavorable groups unsuccessful. This has allowed me to focus more on the successful traits by having the knowledge of it in my mind and steer away from the bad traits. In all of my past successful collaborations, each member had a mutual respect for each other, enjoyed each other presence, and worked together in an appropriate manner. To contrast this: in a previous group that performed not successfully, it was due to internal conflict between my partner and me. There was an obvious tension between us that made me want to disprove or reject any idea they would suggest, even if it was good. Although we managed to put aside our differences to finish the project, not many positive memories remained from that collaboration other than the negativity and awkwardness between us. I understand how tension in a group could harm the collaboration as it may lead to the rejection of positive ideas or worse case scenario, sabotaging the project. Working in an atmosphere of stress definitely does not promote insightful and efficient learning. To summarize my second reflection, I have learned the importance of the three ingredients for a successful collaboration. Through elaborating on how each ingredient relates to an event in my life, I believe it further strengthened my appreciation for both the article and collaborating in general. Heavily disputed arguments have arisen about whether humans are the sole intelligent beings in the universe. Scientists continuously search for the answer, but the search has not as yet yielded positive results. Billions of dollars have been spent in research, causing controversy about whether scientists should invest in the hunt for extraterrestrial beings. Due to inadequate technology, humans cannot currently identify whether extraterrestrial life exists, leading to arguments that scientists should refrain from searching for them. Since odd creatures are found in environments similar to Europa s on Earth, then life can possibly survive on the moon. Experts cannot rule out life under the ice on Europa, because of the similarities to the Earth s environment. Therefore, they must carry on researching. Even though finding similar environments to inhabitable areas on the Earth is helpful, it may hold little importance when discovering life. Open University s Preston says, Most of the environments we used to think were sterile are proving to have life. Every time we think we ve found somewhere on Earth that life can t survive in, we go and find a part of life that can (Fecht). This could be true on other planets as well, so scientists do not have to look for planets with similar environments to Earth. Aliens may have adapted to a different environment than Earth s. Scientists have discovered living beings in places on Earth which seemed unlivable, so if humans look at planets that seem uninhabitable they may find life as well. Once again, with this new knowledge, scientists should proceed in searching for extraterrestrials. Although some evidence suggests that extraterrestrial life exists in outer space, some evidence proves otherwise. Lack of valid evidence and economic consequences associated with the search for extraterrestrials discourages scientists to continue with the investigation. The damaging effects of radiation varies depending on the amount of exposure. Radiation can either ionize water inside cells and these ionized water molecules can react with DNA or radiation can directly hit the DNA molecules. Either way damage is done to the DNA. Damaged DNA, if not repaired, can lead to mutated cells that can result in cancer. Higher levels of radiation can lead to radiation sickness and death13. Radiation can also cause central nervous system damage which can cause neurological disorders, Alzheimer s disease, motor function damage and even behavioral changes. Effects of radiation can also be similar to rapid aging14. Of the physiological effects of space travel, damage from radiation can cause the longest term and most deadly harm. After the Civil War ended in 1865, and especially after the end of Reconstruction in 1877, the South continued to segregate its schools and other facilities. In the influential case of Plessy v. In 1909 blacks and whites, led by W. E. B. The NAACP challenged segregation through its Legal Defense and Education Fund. From 1936 to 1950 the organization won a number of cases leading to the desegregation of law schools and other professional schools at segregated universities in Mississippi, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Texas. Race Ethnicity And Gender In The Lowell Factory While reading the assigned article, I was immediately interested since I am currently learning about the foundation of women s rights in History. Race ethnicity and gender shaped the workforce in the early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same job. This shows the difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market; The primary market being which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also had an impact on the workforce by immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women would, sometimes being rejected from any job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so closely supervised because women women who were closely supervised were not able to organize. Lutz states, The Reagan Administration didn t propose any new taxes, just revenue enhancement through new user s fees. William Lutz provided various examples to show that doublespeak can sugarcoat different situations. He then goes on to supply a definition of doublespeak through diction. William Lutz continues to classify doublespeak as a language and explains how it is used to mislead others. He states, Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its real or purported meaning. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are scary, with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and a prostate cancer incidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African American men s incidence of prostate cancer is a huge problem from a public health perspective because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare field than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity. Throughout the movie, Ava demonstrates many human like behaviors, yet nothing to indicate that she is clearly conscious. Nathan s ultimate test for Ava s sentience is whether she develops any actual feelings for Caleb or attempts to manipulate Caleb into letting her escape. While seemingly inconsequential, Garland uses the paintings to convey the idea that the human mind and artificial mind are very different and ultimately do not function in the same way. While the conscious mind can act on emotional sensation, the programmed mind can only act on observation. Garland further emphasizes this point through the film s setting. Nathan s house is a sleek, futuristic laboratory in the middle of a lush forest. To be able to attain true freedom they must destroy all of their whiteness, become black, and try with every means possible to bring about the liberation of their new community. The oppression African Americans have felt through slavery and discrimination have made them God s chosen people, so understanding God and his will cannot be done independent of understanding their community. In fact, understanding the God of Black theology, the only true theology as Cone sees it, is not possible by white people as they are oppressors and it is not possible for them to understand the oppressed community and their condition or to understand the nature of God, as he is the God of the oppressed. In Cones discussion on Black theology he critique White theology, the theology of oppressors because even the historic Black church has been controlled by White theology and the wrongs of this theology must be shown and realized so that the true Black theology can be followed. Cone frames a theology of liberation from within the context of the Black experience of oppression, understanding the central core of the Gospels as Jesus identification with the poor and oppressed and the resurrection as the ultimate act of liberation. Who has a say in the matter of whether or not it is justified? How does one know how to justify abortion? Given a particular pregnancy, who should decide whether or not it ought to be terminated? (Jaggar, 218) People argue over whether or not the unborn child has the right to life or does the woman have the right to her own body. In her article she choses not to include utilitarian arguments for two reasons, first because, according to her, most of them support her argument. Her second reason was that the main opposing utilitarian argument would likely result in the involuntary termination of pregnancies by the state for reasons of population control in todays society. Not only are there many people that might have a say in whether or not an abortion should be performed but also there are many circumstances that could have an impact upon the morality of and ... Through the eyes of two daughters, Dee and Maggie, who have chosen to live their lives in very different manners, the reader can choose which character to identify most with by judging what is really important in one s life. In Dee s case, she goes out to make all that can of herself while leaving her past behind, in comparison to Maggie, who stays back with her roots and makes the most out of the surroundings that she has been placed in. Dee oppresses herself in many ways by the limitations that she puts on herself with her family and new lifestyle. All of the choices she decides, to make herself a more well rounded person, to better fit into society, end up making her a deplorable person because of the harm that it has on her family. Literary critic Mary Helen Washington believes Dee is an example of a stereotypical assimilated women who alienates them self from their roots, and cuts them self off from real contact with their own people and their inner self (22). This concept explains why Dee rarely makes trips home, and shows that she is really disowning a part of herself by not accepting her family and past. On the other hand, the younger of the daughters, Maggie, is portrayed as a more homely and loyal daughter who is deeply in touch with her heritage. On a personal level, Maggie does not contain the strong willed personality of her sister, but is very content with her family s past, and the direction that her life is taking. Maggie is so accustomed to her strong family ties and the family history that surrounds her everyday in the house, that it is not a priority to have the quilts passed along to her. Since such a time when housing was booming, home ownership, particularly in Sydney, has become gradually unattainable (McNamara Connell 2007). Since the 1980 s the percentage of young people aged 20 24 in Australia living in shared arrangements doubled (Burke, Pinkey Ewing 2002), making apparent that other forms of household were inaccessible. • 43. The Importance Of Censorship Of Music Music is a form of art. An art that has been around ever since the beginning of time. It is arguably considered to be the universal language of this world. Music is what connects the hearts and feelings of one another regardless of race, color, and religious backgrounds. Art is used to express oneself. It also has the power to motivate and influence others. Throughout the years, music has evolved and transformed in many ways. However, there are restrictions in today s music, otherwise known as, censorships. There is a large crisis occurring regarding these censorships. This argument consists of two possible stances: one, supporting the continuation of the censorship of music, and two, eliminating the status quo of censorships in the music industry. There have been countless debates and arguments regarding the issues of censorship since 1927 when the U.S. Congress passed the Radio Act (The History). The time has come for the censored in today s music to be disable. The government should release their grip on the censorship of music for the following reasons: censorship restricts an artist s ability to convey his or her message toward the listeners, it limits an artist s capacity for creativity, and it diminishes the audience s appreciation of the content in the music. First of all, the concept of censorships severely limits an artist s ability to fully express his or herself through the art of music. Musicians typically sing about their values and issues.
