How Did Cleopatra Rise To Power
Cleopatra s rule over Egypt was gained by her influence on male leaders to gain power. Cleopatra is
one of the most remembered if not revered leaders of history due to her sheer intellect, passion, and
persuasiveness. Her ability to make allies and grow her empire into something large and vast shows
her vision and work ethic. The influence she had on people is what helped her gain power over Egypt,
but it is what ultimately led to her unfortunate downfall. Cleopatra comes from a Ptolemaic
background. The Ptolemaics were of a Macedonian Greek background and ruled over Egypt during
the Hellenistic period. This time period was from around 305 BC to 30 BC. The Ptolemaic dynasty
was the last dynasty of ancient Egypt. Her father, Ptolemy XII, ruled from 80 BC to 58 BC due to his
exile to Rome in 58 BC to 55 BC. During the restoration period from 55 BC to 51 BC is where
Ptolemy wrote in his will that Cleopatra and her brother Ptolemy XIII would have joint rule of the
throne. Her Legacy was passed down onto her by her father, Ptolemy XII, after he died in March of 51
BC. Cleopatra and her brother Ptolemy XIII were made joint monarchs, they shared the throne. The
first years of the joint monarchy were difficult. There was much economic failure, political unrest,
famine and flooding of the Nile. Nothing was getting done due to the ... Show more content on

This gave her an open window to take advantage of Caesar s anger towards Ptolemy s actions.
Cleopatra was still in need of a plan to get to Caesar. Still in exile, Cleopatra had to find a way into
Alexandria in order to obtain an audience with Caesar (Jones 33). When Cleopatra was requested by
Caesar she was then able to have a meeting. To gain entry to Caesar s quarters, Cleopatra wrapped
herself in some bedding, which Apollodorus then secured with a leather strap and carried into the
palace (Jones 33). At the time Cleopatra was 21 year s

Sartre s Existentialism And Existentialism
As a continuation of the course assignment, in the following paper, I shall examine Sartre s
Existentialism is a Humanism and give a framework of concepts and reasons as to why it is
existentialist in nature. Whereas the last paper chronologically organized Sartre s life and experiences,
this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and interpretation of
his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German occupation,
Existentialism is a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where questions about
morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any many other) people.
Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean
Paul Sartre s work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term
Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After
rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify
just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian
detractors.
Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism, the
first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker of
Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept

Latest Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a form of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and
behavior. AD typically involves the development of a progressive neuropsychiatric disorder that is
characterized by gradual memory impairment, loss of acquired skills and emotional disturbances (Lee,
Y. J., Han, S. B., Nam, S. Y., Oh, K. W., Hong, J. T.). Every 67 seconds an individual in the United
States develops AD. AD is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. There are 5.3 million
Americans diagnosed with AD (Latest Alzheimer s Facts and Figures). AD is one of the few
degenerative diseases that cannot be prevented, stopped, or cured (Latest Alzheimer s Facts and

2010). The neuroinflammation is an early, non specific immune reaction to tissue damage or pathogen
invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) is characterized by
increased glial activation, pro inflammatory cytokine concentration, blood brain barrier permeability,
and leukocyte invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Microglia are cells that support and protect neuronal
functions (Lee at al. 2010). They act as the first and main form of active immune defense that
orchestrate the endogenous immune response of the Central Nervous System. The microglia play a
central role in the cellular response to pathological lesions such as Aβ. Aβ can attract and activate
microglia, leading to clustering of microglia around Aβ deposits sites in the brain (Lee et al. 2010).
Even though microglia have neuroprotective functions, neurotoxic mechanisms which involves
continuous activation of microglia and toxic factors are released by microglia, which may lead to
neuroinflammation (Lee et al. 2010). Astrocytes (star shaped glial cells) are the most abundant cells in
the brain and are located in the brain and spinal. Astrocytes have various functions such as:
biochemical support of endothelial cells of the BBB, supplying nutrients to the nervous tissue,
maintenance of extracellular ion balance, and healing the brain and spinal cord following traumatic
injury (Lee et al., 2010). Chemokines are released by astrocytes which attract microglia and they
further express proinflammatory products, thus increasing neuronal damage in the pathogenesis of AD
(Lee et al., 2010). Astrocytes play a critical role in Aß clearance and degradation, and they also
provide trophic support to neurons forming a protective barrier between Aß deposits and neurons
(Wyss Coray et al., 2003). Neurons contribute to the production of

Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Is Beyond Physical For Many Patients
Cosmetic plastic surgery is beyond physical for many patients. Notably, people will consult with a
plastic surgeon in efforts to reshape and improve the appearance of a number of things such as their
breasts, abdomen, facial features, hair, the list goes on. Ultimately, the end goal for both the patient
and the surgeon is for the recipient of the cosmetic procedure to have an improved appearance.
Granted that plastic surgery is used to improve one s appearance. self esteem is directly linked with
how one feels about their physical appearance. Therefore, undergoing plastic surgery to improve one s
appearance will help their self esteem. Communication throughout the entire surgical process is
essential. In order for both parties to be satisfied with the end results, communication should most
definitely be a priority. Plastic surgery has been used for over 4,000 years, and continues to be
improved today. India had some of the very first recorded reconstructive procedures, which included
skin grafts and nose reconstructions. In ancient India, these surgeries were used to repair those who
were injured in battle or had their nose cut off as punishment. For instance, Indian physician,
Sushruta, who wrote the encyclopedia Sanskrit, provided instructions on performing procedures such
as an earlobe or nose reconstruction using a skin graft from a cheek or forehead (DocShop, 2015).
Reconstructive surgery techniques continued to improve, many great advances in medicine were made

Handwriting Recognition Essay
The one feature that got the most attention and strongly influenced its demise was its handwriting
recognition capability. In all message pads, handwriting recognition was the basis of data input to
many of the built in applications and functions. According to Professor Luckie, this handwriting
recognition depends solely on Paragraph International Inc. s Calligrapher recognition engine.
Calligrapher technology was limited by the dictionary of words to which it has access (Luckie, n.d.).
This shows that if you write a word that doesn t exist in the dictionary, then Calligrapher is not going
to recognize it correctly and often suggests funny but incorrect phrases as the user wrote.
Even though the limitation of the Calligrapher recognition partly contributed to the demise of
MessagePad, Apple was able to rescue Newton during the release of the second generation OS
(Newton 2.0 OS). This software brought the MessagePad back to the technology it was intended to be
by introducing the new printed handwriting recognition engine. Professor Luckie, in his website that
documents the evolution of Newton OS describes how the engineers at Apple had developed a letter
by letter handwriting reorganizer that could only recognize printed text (Luckie, n.d.). The printed text
recognizer in OS 2.0 requires no dictionary or handwriting learning period. It only requires separated
printed characters to analyze.
Both handwriting recognition engines were innovative systems that adapted to the

Essay on Stanford Auditing Case
Allen Stanford was, at one point, a successful entrepreneur whose investment company s accounts

Stanford essentially ran a massive Ponzi scheme; he issued certificates of deposit at an offshore bank
that he controlled and illegally used the investors funds. These CD s were appealing to investors due
to their high returns of nearly twice the average rate of return of investments in U.S. banks. Investors
were led to believe that these CD s had such high returns because they were being invested in

How Water Is The Water Of The Future Essay
Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water. A.H ADUEN. There cannot be life
without water. Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up fifty percent
to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink eight glasses of
water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is obligatory to the world;
in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life without water. But what if one
day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care about the water of the future, and what
can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read through any science textbook and you ll read
that water is renewable, that although it is used, it is never used up. But water usage is increasing.
Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97 percent of it is salt water, and more than two
percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means less than one percent of all water on this earth is
usable, while water usage per person averages 100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion
citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows
that by 2025, The researchers expect 5 billion (52 percent) of the world s projected 9.7 billion people
to live in water stressed areas by 2050. They also assume about 1 billion more people to be living in
areas where water demand exceeds surface water supply. A large portion of

Jane Eyre Essay
Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre can be linked to many fairy tales. Some of these tales such as
Charle s Perrault s Bluebeard, Arabian Nights, and many more are actually cited in the text. Others are
alluded to through the events that take place in the story. Jane Eyre has often been viewed as a
Cinderellatale for example. There is also another story, however, that though not mentioned directly,
can definitely be linked to Bronte s novel. This tale is none other than Beauty and the Beast, which
was part of one of Perrault s compilations. Bronte uses the ideas and themes of Beauty and the Beast

extremely vain and long for wealth. They beg their father to buy them fancy dresses and jewels before
his return home. Beauty at first claims she wants nothing. Yet when her father will not take no for an
answer she simply asks for a rose, not because she wants one but because it is something simple that
her father will not have to buy. Unfortunately the old man s business deal falls through, and on his
way back home he gets lost in the woods. At the point of almost freezing to death from cold he finds
himself at a castle. He goes inside and finds a warm meal and bed to sleep in, yet no host ever appears.
After waiting to see if anyone will come he sleeps in the castle for the night only to find his clothes

garden for Beauty. All at once the Beast of the castle reveals himself and claims the man will die
because he offered him food and shelter only to find him stealing one of his prized roses. When the

The Evolution Of Music And The Evolution Of Music
The evolution of music, how it started, and how composers create music is phenomenal nowadays, the
equipment used such as technology plays a great important role in how music is created and produced
for clients who want the music. Music composers are the main reason that music most people hear
today are available to be heard; thanks to composers, they provide the entertainment for consumers
and, like other employees that work, have to make money and earn a living for themselves. Music
composition is important in the music field, because without it people wouldn t be able to teach it or
learn from it, or music probably would not exist. History in this field is significant to the development
of music, as well as the job requirements, description of the job, and how it will affects one s life are
also important. Music has been around for years, decades, and centuries; as far back as 4000 BCE
(before common era) and even earlier was when the first drum based instruments came around (The
Method Behind the Music). No notation or writing of music in any way was done at the time as the
sounds made from simple natural sources (sticks and rocks) were used in religious ceremonies (The
Method Behind the Music). As time went on, various kinds of people experimented and created new
instruments such as the Greeks creating the natural trumpet and Egyptians creating flutes and harps
(The Method Behind the Music). For many years since then music theory has evolved from era to era

Boys And Girls Munro
Mother Versus Father: A Thematic Analysis of Boys and Girls Alice Munro developed the theme Be
yourself, and do not let others change that in her short story, Boys and Girls with the use of characters
and the setting. At the beginning, the narrator sees herself as a daddy s girl who enjoys helping out on
the farm, but as the story continues she is shaped into a character more like her mother. Together,
Munro s characters and the setting of the story influence the theme in a variety of ways. The narrator
influenced the theme as she was being shaped into a person she did not want to be. Her mother
continuously pushed her to be less like a tomboy and more like a typical girl. The narrator viewed the

Laird was getting older. The mother was against the idea of women helping out with a man s job, such
as working in the barn or helping out with the pelting operation, for she was plotting now to get me to

displeasure due to her daughter always running off when she asked for help in the house, she said, I

direct characterization, Munro released small hints about the mother s emotions through her daughter s
dialogue and thoughts. The girl did not realize that [her mother] could be lonely, or jealous (5).
Additionally, when the mother walked into the barn she looked out of place (4). This statement used
the character s actions to show how the mother disliked participating in outdoor responsibilities.

The National Infrastructure Protection Plan Essay
Introduction The private sector plays a vital role in carrying out the objectives within all 16 sector
specific plans. The Emergency Services Sector includes but is not limited to first responding services
such as; public work, fire, medical or police services. The goals and objectives of ESS specific plans
are to provide first responder services as one of their main missions is the prevention to life. This
sector is extremely important as they are the first responders to any type of incident that may even be
impacted to other sectors. The National Infrastructure Protection Plan for this sector describes the
tasks, duties and responsibilities that the private sector has in order to effectively and successfully

Red Violin Reflection
A Take on The Red Violin The Red Violin, a movie written by Don McKellar and François Girard, and
directed by François Girard, was released on September 10, 1998. It follows a special, and, in a sense,
cursed, fictional violin through its long and tragic life, culminating a modern era auction where it is
being sold. Everything begins with the violin makers, Nicolò Bussotti, and his pregnant wife, Anna
Rudolfi. While Bussotti worked in his shop, Rudolfi met with one of their servants, Cesca, and asked
her to tell her unborn child s future. Cesca tells her that she cannot, siting that the humors are all
balanced until someone is born, and offers to tell Rudolfi hers instead. There is some hesitation on
Rudolfi s part before she reluctantly agrees and Cesca lays out her tarot cards. Rudolfi selects five and
Cesca began telling her fortune, which is how the real story begins.
Her first card, The Moon, Cesca says means Rudolfi would have a long, rich, full life. Despite that,
Rudolfi expresses her nervousness toward the delivery to Bussotti when she met him in his workshop,
saying that Cesca told her the delivery would be difficult and painful. When Bussotti tries to comfort
her, telling her that they always were, she expresses her nervousness again, saying that she was old to
be having a baby. Bussotti ignored her concerns, going to work the next morning as always, only to be
interrupted by one of his workers telling him a boy sent by the doctor was there as he was about to

A Peasant s Life The peasant has always been looked upon as an object of pity, an underclass citizen
who worked to provide for the higher classes. A passage from Pierce the Ploughman s Creed gives the
perfect description of a day in the life of a peasant: As I went by the way, weeping for sorrow, I saw a
poor man hanging on to the plough. His coat was of a coarse stuff which was called cary; his hood
was full of holes and his hair stuck out of it. As he trod the soil his toes stuck out of his worn shoes
with their thick soles; his hocks on all sides and he was all bedaubed with muck as he followed the

Behind each house was a garden or small plot of land. The common fields surrounding the village
were some distance away, divided into strips and separated by twigs and pieces of unplowed land. Past
the open fields was the waste, the uncultivated land which provided grazing land for the cattle, sheep
and pigs and also fuel and timber for building.11 Bread was the staple item of the peasant diet. Eating
meat was either a rare or nonexistent occurrence. Peasants ate whatever they grew: grains and a small
percent of vegetables and potatoes. Barley and oats were made into both food and drink for
consuming. The good grains, the meat from the animals, and the tasty fruits and vegetables went to

straw supported by wooden frames. The roofs were thatched and animals were free to wander in and

Leitmotif In The Romantic Opera
The leitmotif that can be heard in the opening of the opera can be described as longing. The notes are
drawn out and sound unhappy and there is this sense of anticipation. Through my skipping about in
this opera I have deduced that this leitmotif can be found through the entire opera, at least the drawn
out and unhappy notes can, especially towards the end. The romantic era style operas differed from
that of the baroque style in that the romantic operas emphasized emotions in a far superior way. This
emphasis on emotion is what makes the romantic era stand out from the rest. Some of the instruments
that can be heard, that I could tell in certain parts anyway, in this opera are string instruments such as
violins and violas and woodwind instruments

Rent Control Advantages
As a landlord or tenant, they should know what rent control is and the advantages and disadvantages
of it. Rent control is a government control of the amounts charged for rented housing
(Dictionary.com). It regulates the maximum rent price, how much rent can go up, and what options are
available to tenant who love in rental properties that need repairs (Apartment Ratings).
The goal of rent control is to make affordable housing available for lower income residents (Ink Niche
Insight + Analysis). Rent control limits the amount a landlord can freely increase rent. A landlord can
only raise rent once a year and the percentage of increase is not very high (Enlighten Me). This helps
the tenant ease having their rent go up more quickly than their income. Tenants are protected from
being evicted. The landlords of apartments and houses saw rent go up and the tenants stayed, so they
tried to find a way to evict the tenants in order to raise the rent for the next tenant. Now, cities with
rent control have regulations that require a long complicated process to evict a tenant. For a landlord,
rent control can be a better deal to their tenant, increasing them to be motivated to hold on to where
they are living. This can make a building full of tenants that will not cause much trouble and tenants
who always pay their rent on time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Housing quality is major disadvantage of rent control. Since their income is limited due to rent
control, landlords have little motivation to make improvements or upgrades on their property.
However, a landlord has a specific time period to make repairs and if they do not make the repairs fast
enough the tenant can pay for the repairs and take the amount they paid out of their rent

rent costs, which allows them to make a profit

How Technology Has Changed Copyright
The Creative Commons by Lawrence Lessig discusses how freedom to create has drastically changed
ever since its origin. I think this was the most interesting article I have read about copyright. Lessig
discusses the era of creativity and freedom of using one s work to create and imagine something
completely knew. The author uses Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and comics examples to address his
views regarding how the art of creativity and freedom has changed upon the era of digital media. How
technology has changed the freedom to created? One thing I was surprised by was how many times
the copyright law has been altered. It used to be where copyright material had limited time until it
ended up in public domain for others to uses. However, changes to copyright law throughout the years
has keep on increasing the year of ownership, which gives big companies to monopolize. This lives no
room for others to uses one s material. Automatically, copyright law regulates essentially any creative
work reduced to tangible form. (pp.6). Another point I found interesting was how technology itself
enforcing the copyright law, not the court. In addition, technology enforcing the copyright law has its
own copyright law. It is technology which determines what your freedom is (pp.7). Even the software
codes are copyrighted to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Copyright Act, it is forbidden (pp.8). That s another thing, how many copyright laws and regulations

Similarities And Differences In Sylvia Plath s Forgiving...
When comparing any two types of writing, one must begin with finding the differences and
similarities between the two. A variety of differences and similarities can be found throughout any
types of writing. The poems Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, have some differences but they also
have numerous similarities that stick out to their readers. Lucille Clifton s, Forgiving my Father, and
Sylvia Plath s Daddy, are two unique poems, both based on different scenarios, however, both share an
assortment of noteworthy similarities.
One similarity between Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, is the obvious hatred towards a father figure,
shared between both authors. In the poem Forgiving my Father, Clifton describes her father as an old
lecher old liar, (9 10). Then in Sylvia Plath s Daddy she says this statement about her father But no
less a devil for that, no not, / Any less the black man who, / Bit my pretty red heart in two. (54 56).
Both these quotes illustrate the hatred surrounding the authors fathers. Clifton also says this statement
about her father daddy old pauper old prisoner, old dead man (20). By using these harsh words, she
reveals to the reader the strong hatred that she feels toward her father. Throughout Plath s poem
Daddy, she calls her dad brute multiple times also revealing how, like Clifton, she felt hatred toward
her father. In both the poems the reader is referring to their dead fathers; revealing to the audience that
even after these men have passed away the authors are still unable to forgive their fathers for the pain
they caused in the lives. These are just a few examples of how both Clifton and Plath shows the
audience the hatred they feel toward their fathers.
Hatred toward a father figure is one similarity shared between both Forgiving my Father, and Daddy.
However, the tone both the authors use in their poems are particularly similar. Anger is a strong
feeling and can take over someone s mind if they do not take control of it. Throughout both poems the
authors tone seems to be strongly surrounded around anger, which is shown to toward their father
figurers. Plath says, I have always been scared of you, / With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygook. (45

How Cheer Should Be Changed
Short skirts, loud voices, air heady personalities, and tons of energy is the typical definition of
cheerleaders that most people have in the world today. Along with being the blondes of the school,
cheerleaders are also seen as wanna be athletes (Thomas). This comes from a long line of stereotypical
people who may not know what cheer is exactly about. Although there are individuals who do not
agree with the change of cheer becoming a sport, many people s attitudes have developed over time.
Changing cheer to a sport should change with society s views on it. One problem that many people do
not realize is that all cheer teams are not on the same page. ...most teams participate in multiple
competitions throughout their year long season. Both high school and all star cheerleading teams are

The U Curve Model Of Adaptation
The analysis examines the process of adapting cultural values among Africans migrants in China. The
results of the analysis points out the process of adaptation followed by the influencing factors of
adaptation and finally the challenges faced in the process of adaptation. By using the U curve model
of adaptation, which explained the four stages of adaptation (honeymoon, crisis, recovery, and
adjustment), the study is based on the assumption that Africans migrants follow the same process
and/or stages of adaptation. The U curve model by Sverrelsyaard (1955) applied to many different
migrant groups; the main idea is that migrants go through fairly predictable phases in adapting to a
new cultural situation. The model consists of four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Changing Motor Oil
Changing the oil for a vehicle s engine can be as painless as changing pants. In most cas es, changing
oil and maintaining a vehicle can be quite relaxing. Changing one s oil is a very im portant task.
Without motor oil a normal vehicle would only be able to drive for about five minutes until
experiencing major engine damage. Changing an engine s oil normally will also pro long a vehicle s
life due to the lubrication and heat distributing qualities of fresh motor oil. The process of changing
one s motor oil will be broken down into three simple steps. Step one to changing motor oil is to
gather tools and jack up the vehicle. The optimal tools for jacking up a vehicle include jacks, jack
stands and wooden blocks; these tools can easily be found at any auto parts store within 10 miles of

Essay on The Art of Horror Films
Horror movies generally are all the same. They all have been based off of something that has already
happened or a previous movie. Society has paid to be entertained by these gruesome stories that we all
truly fear. Before movies, people would purchase books of similar tramatic events to read in their
spare time for amusement. Writters such as Bram Stoker created graphic novels that grabbed peoples
attention for years to come. But the horror movie, The House Of The Devil(1896), was noted as being
the first ever horror movie. And as the years pasted, the industry grew and became stronger. The artist

the creation of The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari was the making of The Golem. This film continued to be
remade over the years. It started with a man by the name of Paul Wegener. He was fascinated by the
legend of the Golem. The story spoke of a giant clay monster that saved Pragues Jewish citizens for an
emperor that believed they were ritually killing children. Gothic Horror has to be one of the best forms

Colonial Empires Of The New World
Colonial Empires of the New World

4th Period Abstract
In my paper I will be discussing the different colonies in the new world. I will talk about the main
settlers in the new world including; the Europeans, the Spanish, the Dutch, the French. How these
settlers interact will be the main topic of my report. I will also discuss the effect these settlers had on
the Indians that lived in the territories they claimed.
Empires and Colonies in the New World The first foreign settlers that came to the new world were the
Spanish. Many countries seeked trade with Asia but had to go around the tip of Africa to get there. In
1492 the king of Spain at the time King Ferdinand funded the voyage of a Christopher Columbus to
sail across the ocean to find a better rout than what was being currently used. While he never set foot
in North America he opened the door for English exploration.
By the time the English made it over to the new world the Spanish had already explored a lot of North
America and encountered three major groups of peoples; the Incans in present day Peru, and the
Mayans and Aztecs in present day Mexico and South America. With their exploration they found
wealth in the form of gold and silver. They brought guns, horses, and armor that made the local
peoples view them as gods. But along with foreign technologies they brought illness. Smallpox,

Introduction

Third, I want them to feel cared for in every situation.
I want suffering patients to feel the comfort of a compassionate presence. If they need to talk to
someone, I want to be able to help them think of the things that bring meaning to their lives. Fourth, I
want my patients to feel that I am a competent nurse. When I come into the room, I don t want them to
wish it were someone else. I want them to feel they are in good hands. I want to give them a sense of
hope that the other staff and I will do everything we can and do it well.
Fifth, I want to have good relationships with my colleagues. I want to be known as a hard worker and
someone the patients like. I want my work to be an example to others.
I know I can t accomplish these goals on my own. I will need to work together with others. I will not
be able to accomplish them all the time. I need to remember that, because I get discouraged when
things do not go as planned.
I will have to keep myself healthy if I want to have the energy to attempt these goals. I want to keep

David Hume s A Treatise Of Human Nature
The argument I shall address for this paper is found on page 385, from David Hume s A Treatise of
Human Nature. In Book 1, he takes a skeptic view on the philosophy of personal identity by making
the claim that there is no such thing as a self. According to Hume, for there to be a self it must be
constant and stable, yet all of our knowledge comes from impressions (perceptions that come from
sensory experience) that are only fleeting: pain and pleasure, grief and joy, passions and sensations
succeed each other, and never all exist at the same time, (Hume 385). His first argument is structured
as follows:
(1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from impressions, or experience.
(2) Thus, if an idea of a self exists then it must be derived from impressions.
(3) For any impression to bring about the idea of a self, that impression must persist, unchanged,
throughout our entire life.
(4) Because our perception constantly changes, we are unable to experience all the impressions at the
same time.
(5) Thus, there is no impression that meets the criteria set forth in (3).
(6) Thus, the idea of a self cannot be derived from impressions.
(7) Therefore, there is no such thing as an idea of a self.
I do believe that Hume s argument is valid because the premises entail the conclusion. However, I do
not think his argument is sound due to issues I find with the premises. My objection below specifically
challenges his sixth premise:
(1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from

I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died, By Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was and is one of the most prominent, female lyric poets. A recluse for nearly her
entire life, Dickinson had plenty of time to become the distinguished prolific poet she is commonly
recognized as being in present day. Dickinson wrote hundreds upon hundreds of brilliant poems in her
lifetime, but I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died stands out as unique among them all. The speaker s
point of view coming from an after death perspective is but one of the many details that makes this
poem so intricately distant from the rest. Along with that detail, Dickinson uses multiple other poetic
devices, like similes, metaphors, and personification, to develop her viewpoint of life surrounding
death, establishing an overarching theme of death being simple. As alluded to in the poem, Faith is
fine a invention , Dickinson had a wary conception of the afterlife and spirituality in general.
Furthermore, descriptions of Dickinson portray her as a consistent agnostic, although she was also
described as being heavily influenced by Puritan religious beliefs. Through this character trait readers
can begin to develop the background story behind I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died as well as begin to
understand how Dickinson s viewpoints on faith and death could have helped shaped the poem in it s
entirety. Within the very first line of the poem, readers are already asked to question the importance of
a fly s presence juxtaposed to the death of the speaker. In this opening line the

A Comparison of Arthurian Legend in Various Stories
Arthurian legend was a genre many writers used in Chaucer s day. It is a story made of romances,
heroism, and ballads mostly about Arthur s chief knight Sir Gawain who was mainly a man of social
and ethical virtue. Often time s Arthurian legend is a story of a knight who fights the bad guy, learns a
lesson, saves the day and get s the girl. Although sometimes the knight may start off as the bad guy as
he did in one of Chaucer s famous tales The Wife of Bath. Although Arthurian legend was used in
many stories of that time, often the details were changed around to make the story unique but all in all

A young lustful knight rapes a young maiden one day in Arthur s courts and is threatened to be put to
death. The queen offer s him a second chance by offering a challenge. The challenges was that he was
given a year to figure out what women truly want from their husbands and come back and present his
findings. A year pasts and he doesn t find his answer. As he s heading back to Arthur s court to face
certain death he meets an old hag. This old hag makes a deal with him that she will give him his
answer and help him if he pledges himself to her. He agrees and heads back to the courts and presents
his answer. When his life is saved the old hag comes up and asks the knight to marry him. Of course
he is forced to say yes and on their wedding night the old hag finds him rather upset with the whole
situation. She then offers him another deal. She gave him the choice to pick between having an
unfaithful but young and beautiful wife, or a faithful and true older, uglier wife. The knight tells the
old hag she can choose and when he says this, she turns into a young beautiful woman and promises to
always stay truthful to him because he rendered himself to her. This is another story presented with a
situation that would never be able to happen in real life. The question raised is why these authors
would add these supernatural stories into their literature when their audience was clearly protestant. I

Pleistoina Hypothesis
Through the Pleistocene, the human race witnessed a remarkable integer of extinctions of huge earthly
species. In this extinction Australia nineteen genera while the Americas lost over seventy genera.
Almost all of these were animals of virtually large sizes (Donald, 1991). The North America witnessed
the loss of elephants, camels, horses ground sloths, pronghorn, ovibovids, peccaries and the giant
beaver. On the other hand, South America lost ground sloths, elephants, horses, and a numbers of
camels, rhinoceros sized giant rodent species and glyptodonts. Australia lost herbivorous marsupials
larger than modern day kangaroos The extinction of this mega fauna is largely linked to two main
hypotheses. The first hypothesis is linked to the worldwide climate changes that took place during the
Pleistocene resulting to environmental pressures that forced the extermination of several megafaunal
species. The second hypothesis puts it forward that the worldwide spread of humanity and hunter
gatherer survival practices were accountable for these deaths. Nevertheless, a close examination of
these two theories discloses that neither climate changes nor human overkill was likely to be
independent to blame for the Pleistocene exterminations. The two were intertwined thus a synthetic

Forgiveness In The Novel Disgrace
Disgrace is a novel by the Nobel prize winning writer Coetzee set in the post apartheid period in South
Africa, a period when people were trying their best to learn to forgive the past wrong done by the
oppressive, ethnic government. The question of what it means to forgive is raised in the novel.
Forgiveness is seen in the South African society as something conditional, the wrongdoers have to do
something so that they can be forgiven. The Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act 34 of
1995 established a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to help those victims who were
uncomfortable to forgive. It forged a new relationship among amnesty, trust, and forgiveness in
forgiving, people are not being asked to forget, but to remember, so that such atrocities will not
happen again. In this essay, I will first talk about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission so as to
criticise its presumption of the significance of truth revelation. I will support my notion with reference
to some scenes in the novel Disgrace and point out some characteristics of forgiveness. Then I will put
forward what I think it means to forgive a past wrong and finally question the necessity of the
existence of the Commission.

Argumentative Essay On Baroque Music
Baroque Music The word Baroque was derived from the word barroco, which is used to mean the
period in which western region widely used music especially in the nineteenth century to express how
the European artist practiced the art. When the historical happenings of the music in well explored, the
critics who applied the musical knowledge made it look strange and majorly sounded exaggerated.
Furthermore, ornamentals were initially used during the era of Bash and Handel. After the brand of

dollars in the 2012 election cycle. Most of that money was donated to the Republican party. For 2016,
the Koch brothers are planning to spend even more money nearly a billion dollars. So, who are the
Koch brothers? What do they stand for?* And how powerful are they in the world of politics?
Well, the Koch brothers both tie for 6th richest person in the world, with a net worth of 42 billion
dollars each. They are both the CEOs of Koch Industries, mainly based in oil and petroleum
production. (no relation to coca cola) Worth about $115 billion dollars, Koch Industries is the second

Quilted Northern, Dixie and Lycra. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charles Koch draws inspiration from history s free market champions like Alex de Tocqueville and
Adam Smith. He says the principles of a free society... have shaped [his life] and America itself .
David Koch, too, shares these ideals, and ran as the Libertarian Party s Vice President nominee in
1980.
Reporters speculate that their political beliefs were shaped by an anti Communist upbringing during
the McCarthy Era. Their father worked abroad with Soviet engineers in the 1930s, some of whom
were later brutally purged by Stalin. As a result of the violence, the elder Koch returned to America
staunchly anti communist, which undoubtedly contributed to his sons suspicions of big government.
The Kochs libertarian interests don t strictly follow either the Republican or Democratic ticket. The
brothers have contributed modest sums of money to liberal organizations, and voiced support for
things like gay marriage, abortion rights, and marijuana

Were The American Colonists Justified Dbq Essay
Before the American Revolution in 1775 the British were in major dept so they decided to tax the
colonists. This made the colonist very furious so they started to protest against the Britains like
dumping 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor, loyalists were being tarred and feathered, and many
more horrible things. The colonists were justified in waging war and breaking away from the Britains
for many reasons for example the Britain s enforced many taxes like the Stamp Act, tea act, and the
Townshend Act. The colonists were also justified in breaking away from the British because the
British were very tyrant towards the colonist like the quartering act, the intolerable act, and the Boston

Analysis Of Benjamin Franklin s God Helps Those Who...
Autobiography Essay on Benjamin Franklin God helps those who helps themselves is a famous quote
by Benjamin Franklin. He exemplifies this in The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. In this book,
Franklin gives an account of his personal life to show others how he improved throughout his life. He
first started writing the autobiography for his son, but eventually turn it into a story for others to
imitate. He describes his life, virtues, and public service to others. The Autobiography opens with a
letter to Ben Franklin s son, William Franklin, who was the royal governor of New Jersey at the time.
Franklin writes the letter while on vacation in Twyford. Franklin says to William, Imagining it may be
equally agreeable to you to know the circumstances of my life, many of which you are yet
unacquainted with... I sit down to write them to you (5). His purpose of writing his son would be to
tell him personal accounts of his life that could benefit him in ways of motivation, wisdom, and
simply to show him how far he has improved in his life. He wishes to tell him how he rose from
poverty and obscurity to a higher degree of reputation in the world. Furthermore, this would not be his
only purpose, which changes with the tone and style of his writing Franklin decides to write a
complete autobiography to exemplify his self improvements. He shares with him how he enjoyed his
life, and if the opportunity to live the exact life arose he would change some errors. Ones which were

Impassioned Love In Spain, By Neruda s War
The Way Spain Was expresses impassioned love for Spain as well as anguish for its abjection at the
hands of Fascist forces. The poem is part of the Third Residence, published in 1947, which expresses
Neruda s artistic camaraderie; his love for Spanish poetry which he believes unites the coloniser with
its colony. It was written as an outraged reaction to the civil strife and political murders in Spain. It
was inspired by Ruben Dario (1867 1916), a Latin American poet who wrote politically charged
verses. Neruda was livid and pained at the death of his friend, Garcia Lorca and a number of other
Republicans at the hands of anti democratic Fascist forces. He tells us: The most intense memories,
perhaps, are those of my life in Spain... destroyed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The First line of the poem Jaut and dry Spain was sums up the poet s suffering without any succor.
Through a series of pictures and images the poet captures the atmosphere of those days. In the second
stanza of the poem the poet records his personal attitude towards Spain: How unto cry out, unto the
very soul I love your barren soil and your rough bread, Your stricken people Deep inside his heart the
poet can still feel the life that has disappeared. He still finds the essential Spain to be timeless which
no political turmoil can ever change. He remembers the mineral wealth of the country. Somehow, he
feels, all this has been undone by a cruel and unfeeling god. The poem presents a picture of Spain,
historically rich and glorious but torn by strife at that time. The poet mourns the glorious past but at
the same time emphasizes with the suffering of its stricken people. Silence and isolation are reiterated
in the poem. The contrast inherent in the situation has been brought out by the description of the wine
that is both harsh and sweet, and again in the reference to the vineyards which are both delicate and

Welcome To The Monkey House Analysis
Kurt Vonnegut wrote during the postmodern literary period which breaks free from many ideas created
in the modern period and describes the literature that follows World War two. This period is
characterised with the technology becoming part of life, paradox, and fragmentation. Authors also hold
true the idea that all stories have already been told and works of this era are new methods of telling
them.(Klages np) These techniques are used throughout the short stories of Vonnegut s Welcome to the
Monkey House and influence can be seen due to his past in the military which may be seen through
his storytelling. Vonnegut ties almost all of his short stories to an ending that is not expected nor
reasonable to the common onlooker. This can be seen in The Foster Portfolio when Herbert Foster
continues to live the same lifestyle of his father out of view from his wife and family.Herbert pretends
to hate his weekend job and the personality of his late father, where in reality he is going to the bar on
the weekend and living it up playing the piano away from his family;the account describing him as
clearly, breathin smoke, and drinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader only learns the small things. Vonnegut also takes into account the postmodern thought that
every story has already been told. He just has a new way of writing them as in Long Walk
Forever, where a woman falls for a man who she hasn t seen for years before her marriage. This story
has been told before and continues to be told in film and literature throughout the postmodern

The Effectiveness Of Non Enzyme Soap On Cleaning Red Stamp...
Investigate the effectiveness of non enzyme soap on cleaning red stamp ink at different temperatures
Rebecca (Jiawen Hu) Introduction: United States of America is the first foreign country that I have
been to. I was surprised to find out people there prefer to use washing machine to clean every cloth,
when I was living in a campus s dormitory for a summer camp. However, in my homeland, China,
people are used to washing clothes by hands. For my mother, she always washes clothes by hand. The
sad thing is there is chilblain on her hands during each winter and she insists to wash clothes in cold
water. I told her for many times that washing clothes in warmer water would alleviate her pain. But
she insisted that it was better to wash clothes in cold water because hot water would hamper the right
function of soap. I was very confused because in my chemistry class, we only talked about the limit of
enzyme laundry soap that it cannot be used at too high temperature. However, I am sure the soap my
mother used did not contain enzyme that is special for cleaning certain stain. So a question came into
my mind that how does temperature influence the cleaning function of non enzyme soap? Will the non
enzyme soap clean up more stain if it is used in water at high temperature? At the same time, I want to
convince my mother by experiment that soap can clean more stain if we use it at higher temperature. I
will use effectiveness to refer to the extent of red stamp ink stain on cotton

9. Health care workers are at risk of being exposed to blood borne pathogens through needle stick and
other sharp object injuries. The pathogens of primary concern are the human immunodeficiency virus,
hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus. When a needle stick injury occurs, workers report the incident
to their supervisor. This information is forwarded to county health departments and ultimately to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A CDC researcher used these data to compare
needle stick injuries in community hospitals and tertiary care hospitals. Is this a paired or independent
comparison? Explain your answer.
Paired comparisons may be from one individual before and after samples or from different individuals
who have been matched for some characteristic, e.g. sex, age, height etc. In this question, we are
looking at healthcare workers . The needle stick observations of healthcare workers share a link that
makes them similar to one another and allows the researcher to compare needle stick injuries in
various settings, e.g. all healthcare facilities including in community and tertiary care hospitals.

  • 2. How Did Cleopatra Rise To Power Cleopatra s rule over Egypt was gained by her influence on male leaders to gain power. Cleopatra is one of the most remembered if not revered leaders of history due to her sheer intellect, passion, and persuasiveness. Her ability to make allies and grow her empire into something large and vast shows her vision and work ethic. The influence she had on people is what helped her gain power over Egypt, but it is what ultimately led to her unfortunate downfall. Cleopatra comes from a Ptolemaic background. The Ptolemaics were of a Macedonian Greek background and ruled over Egypt during the Hellenistic period. This time period was from around 305 BC to 30 BC. The Ptolemaic dynasty was the last dynasty of ancient Egypt. Her father, Ptolemy XII, ruled from 80 BC to 58 BC due to his exile to Rome in 58 BC to 55 BC. During the restoration period from 55 BC to 51 BC is where Ptolemy wrote in his will that Cleopatra and her brother Ptolemy XIII would have joint rule of the throne. Her Legacy was passed down onto her by her father, Ptolemy XII, after he died in March of 51 BC. Cleopatra and her brother Ptolemy XIII were made joint monarchs, they shared the throne. The first years of the joint monarchy were difficult. There was much economic failure, political unrest, famine and flooding of the Nile. Nothing was getting done due to the ... Still in exile, Cleopatra had to find a way into Alexandria in order to obtain an audience with Caesar (Jones 33). When Cleopatra was requested by Caesar she was then able to have a meeting. To gain entry to Caesar s quarters, Cleopatra wrapped herself in some bedding, which Apollodorus then secured with a leather strap and carried into the palace (Jones 33). • 3. Sartre s Existentialism And Existentialism As a continuation of the course assignment, in the following paper, I shall examine Sartre s Existentialism is a Humanism and give a framework of concepts and reasons as to why it is existentialist in nature. Whereas the last paper chronologically organized Sartre s life and experiences, this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and interpretation of his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German occupation, Existentialism is a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where questions about morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any many other) people. Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean Paul Sartre s work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian detractors. Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism, the first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker of Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

AD typically involves the development of a progressive neuropsychiatric disorder that is characterized by gradual memory impairment, loss of acquired skills and emotional disturbances (Lee, Y. J., Han, S. B., Nam, S. Y., Oh, K. W., Hong, J. T.). Every 67 seconds an individual in the United States develops AD. AD is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Inflammation of the central nervous system (CNS) is characterized by increased glial activation, pro inflammatory cytokine concentration, blood brain barrier permeability, and leukocyte invasion (Lee et al. 2010). Microglia are cells that support and protect neuronal functions (Lee at al. 2010). They act as the first and main form of active immune defense that orchestrate the endogenous immune response of the Central Nervous System. The microglia play a central role in the cellular response to pathological lesions such as Aβ. Aβ can attract and activate microglia, leading to clustering of microglia around Aβ deposits sites in the brain (Lee et al. 2010). Even though microglia have neuroprotective functions, neurotoxic mechanisms which involves continuous activation of microglia and toxic factors are released by microglia, which may lead to neuroinflammation (Lee et al. 2010). Astrocytes (star shaped glial cells) are the most abundant cells in the brain and are located in the brain and spinal. Astrocytes have various functions such as: biochemical support of endothelial cells of the BBB, supplying nutrients to the nervous tissue, maintenance of extracellular ion balance, and healing the brain and spinal cord following traumatic injury (Lee et al., 2010). Chemokines are released by astrocytes which attract microglia and they further express proinflammatory products, thus increasing neuronal damage in the pathogenesis of AD (Lee et al., 2010). Astrocytes play a critical role in Aß clearance and degradation, and they also provide trophic support to neurons forming a protective barrier between Aß deposits and neurons (Wyss Coray et al., 2003). Notably, people will consult with a plastic surgeon in efforts to reshape and improve the appearance of a number of things such as their breasts, abdomen, facial features, hair, the list goes on. Ultimately, the end goal for both the patient and the surgeon is for the recipient of the cosmetic procedure to have an improved appearance. Granted that plastic surgery is used to improve one s appearance. self esteem is directly linked with how one feels about their physical appearance. Therefore, undergoing plastic surgery to improve one s appearance will help their self esteem. Communication throughout the entire surgical process is essential. In order for both parties to be satisfied with the end results, communication should most definitely be a priority. Plastic surgery has been used for over 4,000 years, and continues to be improved today. India had some of the very first recorded reconstructive procedures, which included skin grafts and nose reconstructions. In ancient India, these surgeries were used to repair those who were injured in battle or had their nose cut off as punishment. For instance, Indian physician, Sushruta, who wrote the encyclopedia Sanskrit, provided instructions on performing procedures such as an earlobe or nose reconstruction using a skin graft from a cheek or forehead (DocShop, 2015). • 6. Handwriting Recognition Essay The one feature that got the most attention and strongly influenced its demise was its handwriting recognition capability. In all message pads, handwriting recognition was the basis of data input to many of the built in applications and functions. According to Professor Luckie, this handwriting recognition depends solely on Paragraph International Inc. s Calligrapher recognition engine. Calligrapher technology was limited by the dictionary of words to which it has access (Luckie, n.d.). This shows that if you write a word that doesn t exist in the dictionary, then Calligrapher is not going to recognize it correctly and often suggests funny but incorrect phrases as the user wrote. Even though the limitation of the Calligrapher recognition partly contributed to the demise of MessagePad, Apple was able to rescue Newton during the release of the second generation OS (Newton 2.0 OS). This software brought the MessagePad back to the technology it was intended to be by introducing the new printed handwriting recognition engine. Professor Luckie, in his website that documents the evolution of Newton OS describes how the engineers at Apple had developed a letter by letter handwriting reorganizer that could only recognize printed text (Luckie, n.d.). The printed text recognizer in OS 2.0 requires no dictionary or handwriting learning period. It only requires separated printed characters to analyze. Both handwriting recognition engines were innovative systems that adapted to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up fifty percent to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink eight glasses of water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is obligatory to the world; in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life without water. But what if one day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care about the water of the future, and what can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read through any science textbook and you ll read that water is renewable, that although it is used, it is never used up. But water usage is increasing. Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97 percent of it is salt water, and more than two percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means less than one percent of all water on this earth is usable, while water usage per person averages 100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows that by 2025, The researchers expect 5 billion (52 percent) of the world s projected 9.7 billion people to live in water stressed areas by 2050. Music composers are the main reason that music most people hear today are available to be heard; thanks to composers, they provide the entertainment for consumers and, like other employees that work, have to make money and earn a living for themselves. No notation or writing of music in any way was done at the time as the sounds made from simple natural sources (sticks and rocks) were used in religious ceremonies (The Method Behind the Music). As time went on, various kinds of people experimented and created new instruments such as the Greeks creating the natural trumpet and Egyptians creating flutes and harps (The Method Behind the Music). Together, Munro s characters and the setting of the story influence the theme in a variety of ways. The narrator influenced the theme as she was being shaped into a person she did not want to be. It follows a special, and, in a sense, cursed, fictional violin through its long and tragic life, culminating a modern era auction where it is being sold. Everything begins with the violin makers, Nicolò Bussotti, and his pregnant wife, Anna Rudolfi. While Bussotti worked in his shop, Rudolfi met with one of their servants, Cesca, and asked her to tell her unborn child s future. Cesca tells her that she cannot, siting that the humors are all balanced until someone is born, and offers to tell Rudolfi hers instead. There is some hesitation on Rudolfi s part before she reluctantly agrees and Cesca lays out her tarot cards. Rudolfi selects five and Cesca began telling her fortune, which is how the real story begins. Her first card, The Moon, Cesca says means Rudolfi would have a long, rich, full life. Despite that, Rudolfi expresses her nervousness toward the delivery to Bussotti when she met him in his workshop, saying that Cesca told her the delivery would be difficult and painful. When Bussotti tries to comfort her, telling her that they always were, she expresses her nervousness again, saying that she was old to be having a baby. Rent control is a government control of the amounts charged for rented housing (Dictionary.com). It regulates the maximum rent price, how much rent can go up, and what options are available to tenant who love in rental properties that need repairs (Apartment Ratings). The goal of rent control is to make affordable housing available for lower income residents (Ink Niche Insight + Analysis). Rent control limits the amount a landlord can freely increase rent. A landlord can only raise rent once a year and the percentage of increase is not very high (Enlighten Me). This helps the tenant ease having their rent go up more quickly than their income. Tenants are protected from being evicted. The landlords of apartments and houses saw rent go up and the tenants stayed, so they tried to find a way to evict the tenants in order to raise the rent for the next tenant. Now, cities with rent control have regulations that require a long complicated process to evict a tenant. I think this was the most interesting article I have read about copyright. Lessig discusses the era of creativity and freedom of using one s work to create and imagine something completely knew. The author uses Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, and comics examples to address his views regarding how the art of creativity and freedom has changed upon the era of digital media. How technology has changed the freedom to created? One thing I was surprised by was how many times the copyright law has been altered. It used to be where copyright material had limited time until it ended up in public domain for others to uses. However, changes to copyright law throughout the years has keep on increasing the year of ownership, which gives big companies to monopolize. This lives no room for others to uses one s material. • 19. Similarities And Differences In Sylvia Plath s Forgiving... When comparing any two types of writing, one must begin with finding the differences and similarities between the two. A variety of differences and similarities can be found throughout any types of writing. The poems Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, have some differences but they also have numerous similarities that stick out to their readers. Lucille Clifton s, Forgiving my Father, and Sylvia Plath s Daddy, are two unique poems, both based on different scenarios, however, both share an assortment of noteworthy similarities. One similarity between Forgiving my Father, and Daddy, is the obvious hatred towards a father figure, shared between both authors. In the poem Forgiving my Father, Clifton describes her father as an old lecher old liar, (9 10). Then in Sylvia Plath s Daddy she says this statement about her father But no less a devil for that, no not, / Any less the black man who, / Bit my pretty red heart in two. (54 56). Both these quotes illustrate the hatred surrounding the authors fathers. Clifton also says this statement about her father daddy old pauper old prisoner, old dead man (20). By using these harsh words, she reveals to the reader the strong hatred that she feels toward her father. Throughout Plath s poem Daddy, she calls her dad brute multiple times also revealing how, like Clifton, she felt hatred toward her father. In both the poems the reader is referring to their dead fathers; revealing to the audience that even after these men have passed away the authors are still unable to forgive their fathers for the pain they caused in the lives. These are just a few examples of how both Clifton and Plath shows the audience the hatred they feel toward their fathers. Hatred toward a father figure is one similarity shared between both Forgiving my Father, and Daddy. However, the tone both the authors use in their poems are particularly similar. Anger is a strong feeling and can take over someone s mind if they do not take control of it. Throughout both poems the authors tone seems to be strongly surrounded around anger, which is shown to toward their father figurers. Plath says, I have always been scared of you, / With your Luftwaffe, your gobbledygook. (45 46). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. David Hume s A Treatise Of Human Nature The argument I shall address for this paper is found on page 385, from David Hume s A Treatise of Human Nature. In Book 1, he takes a skeptic view on the philosophy of personal identity by making the claim that there is no such thing as a self. According to Hume, for there to be a self it must be constant and stable, yet all of our knowledge comes from impressions (perceptions that come from sensory experience) that are only fleeting: pain and pleasure, grief and joy, passions and sensations succeed each other, and never all exist at the same time, (Hume 385). His first argument is structured as follows: (1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from impressions, or experience. (2) Thus, if an idea of a self exists then it must be derived from impressions. (3) For any impression to bring about the idea of a self, that impression must persist, unchanged, throughout our entire life. (4) Because our perception constantly changes, we are unable to experience all the impressions at the same time. (5) Thus, there is no impression that meets the criteria set forth in (3). (6) Thus, the idea of a self cannot be derived from impressions. (7) Therefore, there is no such thing as an idea of a self. I do believe that Hume s argument is valid because the premises entail the conclusion. However, I do not think his argument is sound due to issues I find with the premises. My objection below specifically challenges his sixth premise: (1) All knowledge and ideas are derived from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died, By Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson was and is one of the most prominent, female lyric poets. A recluse for nearly her entire life, Dickinson had plenty of time to become the distinguished prolific poet she is commonly recognized as being in present day. Dickinson wrote hundreds upon hundreds of brilliant poems in her lifetime, but I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died stands out as unique among them all. The speaker s point of view coming from an after death perspective is but one of the many details that makes this poem so intricately distant from the rest. Along with that detail, Dickinson uses multiple other poetic devices, like similes, metaphors, and personification, to develop her viewpoint of life surrounding death, establishing an overarching theme of death being simple. As alluded to in the poem, Faith is fine a invention , Dickinson had a wary conception of the afterlife and spirituality in general. Furthermore, descriptions of Dickinson portray her as a consistent agnostic, although she was also described as being heavily influenced by Puritan religious beliefs. Through this character trait readers can begin to develop the background story behind I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died as well as begin to understand how Dickinson s viewpoints on faith and death could have helped shaped the poem in it s entirety. Within the very first line of the poem, readers are already asked to question the importance of a fly s presence juxtaposed to the death of the speaker. In this opening line the ... On the other hand, South America lost ground sloths, elephants, horses, and a numbers of camels, rhinoceros sized giant rodent species and glyptodonts. Australia lost herbivorous marsupials larger than modern day kangaroos The extinction of this mega fauna is largely linked to two main hypotheses. The first hypothesis is linked to the worldwide climate changes that took place during the Pleistocene resulting to environmental pressures that forced the extermination of several megafaunal species. The second hypothesis puts it forward that the worldwide spread of humanity and hunter gatherer survival practices were accountable for these deaths. Forgiveness In The Novel Disgrace Disgrace is a novel by the Nobel prize winning writer Coetzee set in the post apartheid period in South Africa, a period when people were trying their best to learn to forgive the past wrong done by the oppressive, ethnic government. The question of what it means to forgive is raised in the novel. Forgiveness is seen in the South African society as something conditional, the wrongdoers have to do something so that they can be forgiven. The Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act 34 of 1995 established a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to help those victims who were uncomfortable to forgive. It forged a new relationship among amnesty, trust, and forgiveness in forgiving, people are not being asked to forget, but to remember, so that such atrocities will not happen again. The Theme of Hawthorne’s The Minister s Black Veil Essay The Minister s Black Veil The Theme In Nathaniel Hawthorne s tale, The Minister s Black Veil, the dominanat theme is obviously one man s alienation from society. This essay intends to explore, exemplify and develop this topic. Hyatt Waggoner in Nathaniel Hawthorne states: Alienation is perhaps the theme he handles with greatest power. Insulation, he sometimes called it which suggests not only isolation but imperviousness. It is the opposite of that osmosis of being that Warren has written of, that ability to respond and relate to others and the world. . . . it puts one outside the magic circle or the magnetic chain of humanity, where there is neither love nor reality (54). ... Few could refrain from twisting their heads towards the door. . . . . . . more than one woman of delicate nerves was forced to leave the meeting house. On this first day of wearing his black veil there is some peculiar difference in Hooper s sermon: But there was something, either in the sentiment of the discourse itself, or in the imagination of the auditors, which made it greatly the most powerful effort that they had ever heard from their pastor s lips. It was tinged, rather more darkly than usual, with the gentle gloom of Mr. Hooper s temperament. The subject had reference to secret sin. . . . Hawthorne himself was preoccupied with the problems of evil, the nature of sin (Swisher 13). The psychological impact of the veil is that each parishioner feels that the preacher had crept upon them, behind his awful veil, and discovered their hoarded iniquity of deed or thought ; and with every tremor of his melancholy voice, the hearers quaked. Perhaps the rationale behind the black veil is with regard to the impact which it has on their moral lives; each one becomes more aware of the secret sin within himself and thus more morally cautious. Regardless of the reason behind it, the veil causes the congregation to want to get out of church: At the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Effectiveness Of Non Enzyme Soap On Cleaning Red Stamp... Investigate the effectiveness of non enzyme soap on cleaning red stamp ink at different temperatures Rebecca (Jiawen Hu) Introduction: United States of America is the first foreign country that I have been to. I was surprised to find out people there prefer to use washing machine to clean every cloth, when I was living in a campus s dormitory for a summer camp. However, in my homeland, China, people are used to washing clothes by hands. For my mother, she always washes clothes by hand. The sad thing is there is chilblain on her hands during each winter and she insists to wash clothes in cold water. I told her for many times that washing clothes in warmer water would alleviate her pain. But she insisted that it was better to wash clothes in cold water because hot water would hamper the right function of soap. I was very confused because in my chemistry class, we only talked about the limit of enzyme laundry soap that it cannot be used at too high temperature. However, I am sure the soap my mother used did not contain enzyme that is special for cleaning certain stain. So a question came into my mind that how does temperature influence the cleaning function of non enzyme soap? Will the non enzyme soap clean up more stain if it is used in water at high temperature? At the same time, I want to convince my mother by experiment that soap can clean more stain if we use it at higher temperature. I will use effectiveness to refer to the extent of red stamp ink stain on cotton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The pathogens of primary concern are the human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus. When a needle stick injury occurs, workers report the incident to their supervisor. This information is forwarded to county health departments and ultimately to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A CDC researcher used these data to compare needle stick injuries in community hospitals and tertiary care hospitals. Is this a paired or independent comparison? Explain your answer. Paired comparisons may be from one individual before and after samples or from different individuals who have been matched for some characteristic, e.g. sex, age, height etc. In this question, we are looking at healthcare workers .
