A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines Essay
While we all would agree that racism is immoral and has no place in a modern society, that was
not the case in the U.S. in the 1940s. At the time African Americans were treated as second class
citizens, it was made near impossible for them to vote, and they were discriminated in many
ways including in education, socially and in employment. It was a time in which segregation
and racism perforated the laws and society, a time in which African Americans were separate but
equal, segregation was legal and in full force. Apartheid was also everywhere from the books to
in society. Blacks were not truly seen as equal as they were seen the the lesser of the two and it
very much felt that way. Blacks were oppressed in many ways including having... Show more

The stance that is taken in the court to criminalize Jefferson is detrimental because they make
Jefferson lose his dignity as a man. Jefferson is compared to something that is seen as a rodent,
and taking such a stance makes Jefferson lose all the hope that he has. When the defense
referred to Jefferson as a boy and not a man, jefferson was being talked down by the side that was
supposed to be his own. This a Man? No, not I. I would all it a boy and a fool (Gaines 7).
Jefferson is being talked to like a boy, a fool. It is implied that he is inexperienced and he didn t
know what he was doing as much as a toddler wouldn t. While the defense was on his side, it
referred to him as a fool because of the color of his skin. The defense is making out Jefferson to
be an innocent bystander and in the process making jefferson seem to be a manchild. It is not
only making Jefferson seem like he was too idiotic to move out of the way, he is also being
dehumanized. I would just as soon put a hog in the electric chair as this (Gaines ). When the
defense compares Jefferson to a hog, he is saying that Jefferson is just as insignificant. It s
dehumanizing in that Jefferson is made out to be an insignificant low life. Jefferson s defence is
getting a point across, but it s not the right one because I don t want them to kill no hog, she said.
I want a man to go to that chair, on his own two feet. (Gaines 13) In this quote Miss Emma wants
Jefferson to know why he is

Women Are Over Sexualised In The Music Industry Essay
Discussion
To find out whether people believe that women are being commodified in the music industry or not
I created a questionnaire. I asked an equal amount of men and women to get an even opinion from
both genders. The questionnaire had five questions that were:
1.What is your gender?
2.What would you prefer in a music video?
3.When watching a music video, what do you focus on more?
4.Do you think women are over sexualised in the music industry?
5.Do you think men are over sexualised in the music industry?
From conducting the questionnaire I can conclude that 95% of the people I asked believed that
women were being oversexualised. When watching a music video they focused more on the song
and choreography, than how attractive the people in the music video were. The results from the
questionnaire suggest that most people aren t superficial when it comes to the music industry,

Characteristics Of Mangroves Of Roatan And The Bay Island
ECOSYSTEMS CLASSIFICATION OF LIVING ZONES The area around Roatan and the Bay
Islands is considered to be a Tropical Humid Forest. This area of life is restricted to narrow
lowlands and covers coastal plains. The flora that integrates the vegetation of the area has
characteristics and morphological features which include trees, shrubs, and grasses; as well as
an evergreen, deciduous phenology. VEGETABLE ECOSYSTEMS Mangroves estuaries,
coastal lagoons, and Mangrove wetlands are found throughout Roatan and its surrounding
islands. In Utila, this type of ecosystem occupies 37% of the island s surface area. In Roatan, this
type of ecosystem occupies 7.2% of the islands surface area. In Guanaja figures for this type of
ecosystem drop to 6%. Utila Island, which is home to a significant portion of mangrove swamps,
has a large vegetal landscape and a high level of biodiversity. This gives Utila a strong
patrimonial value. THE CHACHALACA For example, this habitat represents a limited shelter
for the Chachalaca (a tree dwelling bird of the guan family Ortalis vetula deschauenseei) of Utila
Island. This bird subspecies is endemic to the mangroves of the island of Utila. The Chachalaca
was believed to be extinct in years past but is now protected and growing. THE GARROBO The
garrobo (Ctenosaura similis) is another example, of a native species on the Island of Utila which
dependent on the local ecosystem of the mangroves and is considered Critically Endangered.

Mission Command In Operation Desert Storm
Operations Desert Shield/Storm took place during the Gulf War, which was a conflict between
Iraq and a coalition force of more than 30 nations mandated by the United Nations, led by the
United States commanded by General Norman Schwarzkopf, who conducted one of the greatest
military campaigns of all times that resulted with the coalition victory. The name Operation Desert
Shield was for the operation leading to the built up of troops and defense of Saudi Arabiaand
Operation Desert Storm for the combat phase to liberate Kuwait. This war included more than
500.000 United States troops, dominated by technological superiority that definitely favored the
coalition forces. The use of missiles, guided bombs and invisible plane made easy to destroy
Iraqi ground targets, being so the first war in history to use the air power to defeat ground forces.

Welfare Recipients Abusing the System
The welfare faults
America spends an annual amount of 131.9 billion dollars on welfare alone (Department of
Commerce). So many facts about welfare are overwhelming, such that over 12,800,000 Americans
are on the welfare system. The entire social welfare system is in desperate need of a complete
reform. In order for a proper reform to ensue, the people of America must combine efforts with the
U.S. government to revitalize the current welfare system. This reform would involve answering
two important questions. First, how has today s welfare system strayed from its original state
and secondly, how is the system abused by welfare holders in today s economy? As of January
1, 2014, roughly 4.1% of Americans are welfare, which is not what the system was designed to
do (Department of Commerce). Welfare was originally created in the 1930 s during the Great
Depression in order to aid to citizens with little to no income (welfareinfo.org). It was a response
to the great number of people without jobs and who desperately needed assistance with money and
basic needs such as food and shelter (welfareinfo.org). For the next 61 years the United States
government would hold control of the welfare system (welfareinfo.org). According to the
Department of Commerce, 46,700,000 Americans are on food stamps (Department of Commerce).
The Department of Commerce divided welfare recipients into categories of race finding that, 39.8%
of welfare holders are African American (Department of Commerce).

The Pros And Cons Of C-Section Births
Description Due to cesarean section, it is proven that c section birth causes infants to be at
greater risk of developing a host of illnesses such as, asthma, type 1 diabetes, as they progress
and grow older; As Australia has one of the highest c section rates in the world with now at 32%
of the population having a cesarean birth (s. McCulloch, 2018). Indigenous mothers are more likely
to experience more long term issues and even perinatal death compared to the 0.7% of non
aboriginal and non Torres Strait islander mothers (The Department of Health, 2011). Researchers at
the University of Alberta have been investigating whether gut bacteria play a role in this issue or
poor procedure and lack of medical equipment in indigenous communities. This... Show more

These social disadvantages directly relate to dispossession and are characterized by poverty and
powerlessness, and are reflected in education, Racism and discrimination are directly associated
with poorer health outcome which again links up with the dangers of c section and even general
vaginal birth (Pharmaceutical society of Australia, 2014). Aboriginal and Torres strait islander
mothers find c section birth to be more preferred as it doesn t risk the mother and child, but this is
not always the case (Baby Care, 2018). About 1 in 12 women get an infection, such as cellulitis,
abdominal abscess, thrush, urinary tract and bladder infection after having a c section birth (D. R.
Wilson, 2018). Indigenous mothers are more likely to develop these infections. These infections
could be easily being treated by the consumption of antibiotics. Communication between researchers
is found to be highly effective, as more and more mothers in indigenous communities and other
communities are being more aware and notified about the effects of c section birth to the child and
mother. The samples collected back up the researcher s statements and provide the public about
how this can be improved. Without communication between researchers, lack of knowledge would
increase and so will the rate of c section births in remote communities and private hospital. Lack of
medical equipment would also increase in remote communities which will indeed result in an
increased rate of deaths in indigenous

Copyright Laws Should Be Legal
Over two centuries ago Congress enacted the first copyright law with the intent that it would
allow authors and creators of works to be the sole profiters and exclusive rights holders over their
work for a specified time. After the specified period of time ended, the works would pass into
ownership of the general public. Since the CopyrightAct of 1790, copyright laws have continued to
evolve and still struggle to keep up with an ever changing, fast paced society. With the use of the
World Wide Web and the ease of downloading, copying, and file sharing increasing, copyright
holders in the United States and those with vested interested in copyright laws are calling for
changes to be made to copyright laws. In more recent years, additional concerns with online
copyright laws have arisen, leading some to call for stricter laws, while others are calling for more
lenient laws, and questions on the legality of the laws continue to surface.
Overtime copyrights have come to hold a significant economic bearing on companies and the
Chamber of Commerce estimated copyright infringement and counterfeiting costs copyright
holders $135 billion each year, making the issue of copyright law on the forefront of a lot of
corporation s agendas (Callander, S. Hoyt D. 2013). One of the more controversial copyright laws
that deals with both foreign and domestic online activity is the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)
that was proposed to the House of Representatives in 2011 (Carrier, M. 2013).

According to a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, athletes reported more
binge drinking, heavier alcohol use, and a greater number of drinking related harms. Along with
these findings, researchers also found that despite athletes drinking heavier than non athletes,
student athletes displayed greater efforts in alcohol prevention and possessed unique motivations to
curb their alcohol consumption. As mentioned before, student athletes are consistently shown to be
an at risk population among university students. In a journal titled Protective behavioural strategies
and their relationship with negative alcohol consequences among college athletes , student athletes
participate in greater alcohol consumption as well as experience more negative consequences of
alcohol abuse. Within college populations, protective behavioural strategies have been shown to
reduce the impact of alcohol related negative consequences, however not much is known about
protective behavioural strategies among the at risk sub population of student athletes. According to
this study, protective behavioural strategies did little to increase the distance from alcohol
consumption and negative consequences. In conclusion, athletes display greater tendencies to

The three Abrahamic religions share not just the same Supreme Being but they also share several

A simple commonality between the Abrahamic religions is that they all have a center of worship

He also says a poem should be silent, wordless, and motionless. This means that the poem shouldn
t have to be so much that it explains every detail, leaving no room for imagination, but yet, the
poem should leave the reader able to imagine for themselves what they think the poem means.
MacLeish says in his last lines that the poem should be so well written that the reader knows
exactly what the poem is, but not what it means. Marianne Moore clarifies poetry as something
that should be original and something that is genuine so that it becomes interesting to the reader.
She states this through out her poem when in the beginning she states that poems become
unintelligible when they are derivative. Then she ends her poem writing that it must be original,
not repetitive to interest the reader. The views and expectations that MacLeish and Moore have
of poetry are somewhat similar because of how their opinions cross. MacLeish thinks poetry
should not tell the reader what it means, but a poem should be so well written that the reader is
able to know what the poem is about. Moore thinks that poetry should be original so that it does
not confuse a reader or leave the reader uninterested half way through a poem. These two views
cross because they both mean originality.

Lewis and Clark Expedition Essay
This paper will explain why Lewis and Clark are two of the greatest explorers in American
history. Some of the distinguishing factors of these explorers and the three main points in this
paper are their exploration of the uncharted west by way of the Missouri river, the many
discoveries made along the way, and the effect they had on the westward expansion of the United
States. In January 1803, Thomas Jefferson sent a confidential message to Congress asking for
approval and funding of the exploration of the Westward part of the continent and was granted

They stayed at the fort until April 1805. So far, Lew and Clark had discovered 108 new plant
species and 68 mineral types. Sacagawea became increasingly important to the expedition as she
showed the men things to eat like licorices, white apples, wild artichokes, and many other edible
plants and roots. She also saved many important tools and artifacts when the boat tipped in a
storm. On June 13, 1805, Lewis reached the great Missouri falls and the crew was forced to
carry all their gear, supplies, and canoes up a seventeen mile trail to the top of the falls. This took
them almost an entire month. On August 8, 1805, Sacagawea recognized Beaverhead rock from
her childhood and knew they were close to Shoshone lands. On August 17, 1805, the expedition

A Report On Woolworths Company
My chosen business that my report will be based on is the Woolworths company, known primarily
in Australia for their supermarket s and retail chains. Woolworths run several high profile
Australian stores such as BWS, Dan Murphys, Big W and the highly publicized Masters. The
reason for my choice of Woolworths was that as they are one of the biggest companies and
employers in Australia, and have recently been in the media spotlight for the closing of one of the
recent projects Masters. Another major reason as to my choice of Woolworths is that there supply
chain would be as interesting and extensive as any other Australian based company. With almost a
thousand supermarkets Australia wide and over 100 thousand staff, Woolworths is one of the
countries prominent employers (Woolworths limited2012).
An added incentive as to why I chose to do my report on Woolworths was that they are my
current employer. I believe that by learning more about the current supply chain structure and
management of the company that I do indeed work for, will give me a more detailed overview
of the job that I am currently doing. By understanding more about the company you re involved
will hopefully keep me motivated and improve my work leading to a happier time whilst I am
working (Gelles 2013 p.37). As a billion dollar company, Woolworths would have to be very
careful and deliberate with who and what there supply chain consists of. With the vast variety of
social media and news sources in the current

Boo Radley Qualities
Scout lives in a neighborhood where everyone s opinions, how they act and their appearances
labels them. This is shown partly through chapters 4 6 of To Kill A Mockingbird. One day, as
Scout is returning from school alone, she notices two pieces of gum in the knothole of a tree on
the Radley s lawn. She takes it, but Jem rebukes her for doing so. On the last day of school, they
discover two coins in the same knothole and choose to keep it. The children and even the
neighborhood labels Boo Radley as a monster just because he doesn t adhere to Maycomb s
orthodox lifestyle. Rather, he stays inside his house. Hence, the neighborhood has a lot of myths
about him which Scout and Jem obviously believe considering they re still children. This is why

Evolution Of Primate Intelligence Essay
The evolution of primate intelligence.
Intro and summary
Inquisitiveness, probably one if the most important trait a human being exhibits. This characteristic
has also extended to our quest to understand own past. One of the most fundamental reasons why
we are interested in the other primates is to obtain a precise view of how our ancestor may have
lived. Trying to get an insight into their environment, food, and social structure. Although there is
no direct evidence to prove that we as human beings have descended from any modern type
monkey or ape, our genealogy does indicate that we have gone through stages, in which we
possibly evolved from a relatively medium sized creature with good binocular vision, hands with
good dexterity the ability to climb trees. An evolutionary trend seen in primates involves the

Another trait seen in primate evolution has been a more elaborate brain. In addition to brain size and
gestation periods, the social organization also demonstrates and plays an important role in primate
evolution due to its complexity and hierarchy.
Brain evolution
The fundamental explanation for the evolution of large relative brain size in early primates remains
undetermined and disputed (Insel). In particular, the neocortex of many primates has undergone
substantial expansion, and has reached its largest in humans (Rilling and Insel, 1999). The
neocortex is generally associated with, cognitive memory, and higher order information processing.
Emotions such as fear, happiness, jealousy and understanding the need for conflict resolution stem
from this part of the brain. Although, many theories have been put forth to account for cerebral
expansion in primates, Epiphenomenal and developmental models have interpreted brain

effects racism, war, etc. effect the society in America. To combat this, the youth created their own
form of counter culture to promote a peaceful change within society. Some of their actions include

East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden , discloses the answer of right and wrong, good versus evil
and overcoming sin with a simple Hebrew word Timshel , meaning thou mayest, allowing us the
freedom to make our individual decisions or choose our path in life; it s actually God s perfect
gift to everyone. In the beginning, God grants us free will so that we have the ability to love and
accept him or not. However, had God not chosen to grant us free will, we would not be human as
we know it today, for the original sinwould never have occurred. Likewise, people s inability to
experience emotions of any kind, whatsoever, would turn us into mere mundane robots, forced to
listen and answer to an authoritarian God. Lee plays an instrumental part in East of Eden, by not
only bringing into focus Timshel and its meaning to the Trask family but through his strength and
character as a whole, for without Lee East of Eden and the concept of Timshel is non existent.
Lee s character in East of Eden commences when Adam and Cathy move to California and Adam
purchases land or his Garden in Eden as Adam refers to it. Lee described in the beginning as a
Chinaman sporting a queue and only speaking in pidgin. However, the more one discovers about
Lee in the book; the more one finds this is not the case at all. Lee is Chinese American, who is
extremely knowledgeable, well spoken, well read, insightful and thought provoking. He was born

How Did Sargent Became An Artist
Following the tremendous fame that Sargent had achieved, he grew tired of the demands of his
patrons and decided to close his portrait studio. Portraiture involves a great deal of interaction
between sitter and artist, and Sargent particularly disliked this aspect of portrait painting, stating
that it was a nuisance to have to entertain the sitter and to look happy. By leaving portraits behind,
Sargent was provided with the opportunity to concentrate on different genres of art, as well as
some new techniques, and the drastic change in his focus provided an entirely new range of
expression. The art that he produced later in his career is some of the most intriguing. Finally,
Sargent could experiment more freely. Moreover, after decades of attempting to please others, he
was finally unrestrained in creating art for his own enjoyment. This did not mean that he entirely
stopped making portraits, but it did significantly reduce the number of portraits he produced in his
later years. Among the most celebrated works of his later career are his Biblical murals in The

The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs And Jews
The conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews is a phenomenon that stems from the struggle
over land defined exclusively as a Holy Land by both groups. Their competing claim to this
territory and the constant struggle for exclusive political control has created irreconcilable
differences. Jewish claim over the land is based on a covenant made between God and Abraham and
the need for haven from the growing anti Semitism in Europe. Palestinian Arabs claims to the land
are based on their continuous residence in the country and the rejection of the notion that ancient
kingdoms constitute claims over land in a modern time. They believe that because Abraham s son
Ishmael is the forefather of the Arabs, then God s promise of the land to the children of Abraham
include them as well. Although the land of Palestinewas inhabited by a range of individuals living
in peace, the growing tension from the Zionist group, as well as the influx of Jewish immigration
created growing anti Semitism, which led to the Jewish push towards finding a haven.
In the late 1800s, a group of extremist minorities of the Jewish population began to colonize what
was then Palestine. Known as Zionists, their goal was to create a Jewish homeland, a haven from
the growing anti Semitism. The Zionist ideology was based on the premise that the only solution to
have a viable Jewish community in modern times would be in Eretz Israel. Eretz Israel was the land
in which the identity of the Jewish people was

The Monster or Beauty of Advertisement Essay
In life, nothing is hardly ever clear, as if there s never just one side over the other, but more
commonly a mix of both. This idea applies to something that appears in almost everyone s life,
advertisements. For every TV owner, laptop user, or shopper, it s nearly impossible to escape the
grasp of advertisements. But a current controversy that catching people s attention is the idea that
advertisements can possibly be manipulative instead of the expected persuasive advertisement. In

When looking at Kilbourne s two premises it is easy to agree with premise one, that commercials
do degrade women, but there doesn t seem to be the connection between women being degraded, to
these commercials being manipulative. In the printed ad Cigarette Women, there is a small picture
with a male and female actress, not very clear, but still noticeable. To the ignorant eye, it would
be viewed as harmless, but in the eyes of Kilbourne it speaks so much more. The position of the
women in the picture could be seen as helpless and dependent on the man who has a powerful
stance. The clothes on these two models could be seen in a similar way with the man being fully
clothed in a business, while the woman is in a short white dress. These are two factors that do show
this picture to be degrading and provocative, but it isn t manipulating.
Manipulation can be seen with having the traits of being forceful, by being tricky, or to falsify for
one owns advantage. This picture of the man and the women is not forceful by any means, is does
not threaten or pump fear in the minds of the audience. There doesn t seem to be anything falsified
to be tricky for the advertisement company s own good. So Kilbourne s idea that by degrading
women these companies are manipulative, is false. They use the factors of persuasion by inducing,

How Beautiful are the Feet from Messiah
George Frederic Handel
As Mr. Handel in his oratorio s greatly excells all other Composers I am acquainted with, So in the
famous one, called The Messiah he seems to have excell d himself. Bishop of
Elphin 1742
George Frederic Handel was born on February 23, 1685, in Halle, Brandenburg (which is now
Germany), into a wealthy, religious family. He spent 4 years travelling in Italy 1706 10, from
where he met many of the finest Italian musicians of that period, such as Alessandro Scarlatti and
Arcangelo Corelli. He moved to London in 1710, where he remained until his death on April 14
1759.
Handel was greatly influenced by the Italian style, with much of his vocal work being written in
Italian, including all of his operas, countless arias and many of his early oratorios.
However, after the release of the satirical Beggar s Opera, by John Gay, in early 1728, the
popularity of Italian Opera began to decline, because Gay s work s prevalent theme ridiculed the
stereotypical plots in Italian opera.
English audiences were also growing ever more dissatisfied with their entertainment being in
Italian, a language they did not speak, sung by singers of whose morals they disapproved. In spite
of all this, Handel continued to compose Italian operas until 1741, even co managing an Italian
opera company in London, until it went bankrupt in 1737.
Oratorios soon began to grow in popularity: large scale concert pieces for solo voices, chorus

Fear Of Spiders Research Paper
Arachnophobia is the all encompassing fear of spiders. If you are like most people, you have at
least a touch of the phobia. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with
the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you
normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any
actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas:
The Black Widow:
You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its
body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow
spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more
often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if
they are guarding eggs or laying eggs.
The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks,
house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces
sharp pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. The pain can
become severe and spread to other parts of the body and be accompanies by tremors and weakness.

Nature Of Revenge In Hamlet
William Shakespeare s Hamlet is characterised as a tragedy, illustrating an abundance of significant
themes, with one of the most important ideas being revenge. Revenge is defined as an action of
hurting somebody in return for something that has been done unjustly wrong. The main character,
Hamlet, continuously reflects on revenge throughout the play, particularly in his soliloquies.
Nevertheless, he has been procrastinating, talking about the situation, but not demonstrating it. In
an honour code, it displays coward like qualities. Revenge is effectively represented in Hamlet, as it
allows to develop a strong understanding of human strengths and frailties. This is because it
represents the different forms of deceptive plots that result in the situation of death. This is clearly
evident in Hamlet s interaction with his father s ghost, convincing him to murder Claudius for
revenge, which extends into the play that is acted out, proving that he is the murderer of his father.
Also, Hamlet s third and most famous soliloquyprovides the reader with a reflection on death in
his melancholic state of mind, and Hamlet also refrains from killing Claudius as he is praying and
decides to killhim at another time.
To begin with, the exploration of human strengths and frailties in Shakespeare s Hamlet
provides a strong understanding of the complex nature of revenge, because Hamlet is
determined to kill Claudius, which is the main reason for his father s death. This is the most
pivotal moment at the end of Act 1 because it leads Hamlet into insanity because it s his primary
mode of interacting with other people later in the play. The idea is used by Shakespeare to further
develop Hamlet s character because the concept of sin must be returned with punishment because
Claudius has committed a sin on his father. The quote Revenge his foul and most unnatural
murder, is used as a motif on the centre of honesty, as it explores the fact that Hamlet would do
something for his father if they had a close relationship. He is rather keen to undertake this task so
that he can get revenge on Claudius. With wings as swift as meditation or the thoughts of love may
sweep to my revenge, uses a simile to express Hamlet s determination

housing represents a significant shift in the response to family homelessness toward a Housing
First philosophy. Increased attention on rapid re housing, accompanied by an influx of resources,
and expansion of programs, elicits urgent need for more rigorous evaluation, some of which is
already underway.
There is a small, but growing, body of evidence on the efficacy of rapid re housing. Drawing on
program data and early findings from evaluations in progress, this brief

Informative Speech On Deafhood
Hi, this is my pro tactile interpreter, (I missed the name, looks like ptpt), we are working
together. Before I begin, I want to thank you and I am honor to be here. My experience and
relationship with Deafhood is different but honestly I am happy to be here. To the board, thank you
for inviting me here and to the community, thank you for inviting me here. I speak for myself, no, I
speak for my various intersecting communities: The Deaf, Deaf Blind, people of color including
Native American, Black, South East Asian, West African, and all of the groups, and the disabled
people. Sometimes when I do presentations, people have given me more information for community
work. I am going to discuss community collective healing, the Deaf history has... Show more

I am not here to benefit the hearing people by speaking. But if a hearing person tells me but you
know I have a deaf friend who says speech is better. That one deaf person does not represent the
whole Deaf community. Each of you represent something, each of you have a story to tell, each
of you have a background, we need to listen to each of you. We cannot say when one has a friend
who is Deaf Blind and make assumptions on what this person needs. We must listen to a person
and provide the necessary accommodations based on this person s needs. Community
Collective means all including people of color, disabled, Deaf blind, all of them. It begins with
LAL, that is, listening for understanding with love. You may become defensive but you cannot
listen and say wait. You must listen to understand in order to love the process itself. Sometimes
people will disagree with you. For example, I have a dialogue with the KKK, do I like it? no, but
I need to understand why. I don t have to agree with them. In a strange way, I do understand KKK
because the KKK members were taught that way by their families and they want to be accepted by
their families. It s human nature. Do I like the concept of KKK, of course

Cognitive Therapy Essay
The stigma of mental illness has led many to suffer in silence. For those afflicted, acceptance or
even treatment is too unrealistic of a notion to seek out the help they so desperately need and
want. In the field of psychology, therapy is a way for experts and patients to collaborate, and over
the course of their relationship, understand and eliminate problematic behaviors and thought
processes that may be affecting their patient s life. There are quite a few different approaches to
therapy; common therapeutic approaches are humanistic, behavior, and cognitive therapies. For
someone in need of a way to rectify a mental disorder or as a method of self improvement,
therapeutic assistance in any of these fields may be a boon. For a non specific... Show more content

Cognitive therapists seek to disrupt the harmful cyclic thinking that fuels many neurotic disorders,
such as generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder (Myers, 2004). Cognitive
therapy focuses on conscious re labeling of negative thought processes in order to help a patient
develop a constructive world view and mental thought pattern (Myers, 2004). Cognitive therapists
work to systematically correct fallacious thought processes such as personalization (attributing
perceived negative events as having to do with oneself), dichotomous thinking (a binary, all or
nothing pattern of thinking), selective abstraction (acknowledging only certain aspects of an event,
usually the most negative), and magnification minimization (misinterpreting the importance of an
event) in order to stabilize the patient s mood (Herkov, 2016). A subset of cognitive therapy is
cognitive behavior therapy, which combines the behavior modifying techniques of behavior therapy
with the conscious thought re labeling of cognitive therapy into a cohesive technique. As David G.
Myers says on page 671 of Psychology, it seeks to make people aware of their irrational negative
thinking, to replace it with new ways of thinking, and to practice the more positive approach in
everyday settings

The Dumbest Generation The Dumbest Generation
A few years ago, I decided to learn sign language. It was not a project for a class, a requirement to
graduate, or a fact that everyone knew. I just wanted to learn sign language, so I did what many
twenty first century millennials do and downloaded an app. The app showed me diagrams to learn
basic phrases, videos to perfect the movements, and lessons to learn more efficiently. The
technology of the app made learningsign language easy, and I could use it wherever I went. I
thought that I was smart for using technology to learn specific things, but Mark Bauerlein, the
author of a 2008 book called The Dumbest Generation, would disagree. According to Bauerlein,
twenty first century teenagers possess low knowledgelevels when compared to past generations
because of the increased use of technology. However, Bauerlein is mistaken. This generation is not
the dumbest generation because we focus on different topics, we write more often, and we know
that every generation has been called the dumbest . Every generation is different, and the
information that is commonly learned in each generation is affected by the events surrounding that
time period. As stated in The Dumbest Generation? Don t Be Dumbarticle written by Sharon
Begley, the reason why people cared more about politics in 1966 than now was because politics
determined whether or not you were going to get drafted and shipped to Vietnam . Today, teenagers
do not care as much about politics because, although it is

Cause And Effect Essay On Intimate Partner Abuse
When you close your eyes and all you can feel is their hands on your body, ripping and tearing at
your clothes, holding a hand over your mouth, you think you re screaming but you re not sure.
Then you feel their hot breath on your neck as you remember the things they said you re
worthless , you re a waste of space , nobody will ever love you like I do , I m the only one who
loves you . Part of your brain shuts down to protect yourself from what s happening, and what s
happened in the past. When you open your eyes you re still alone, there s nobody there, but you re
still shaking like you did that night, wanting to scrub your skin until its raw just to get the feeling
of their touch off your body, feeling the hot tears well behind your eyes as you try to convince
yourself they re wrong about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On average a woman will experience some form of abuse approximately every nine seconds.
This statistic may be higher in areas where women are regarded as property more than human.
Frequently intimate partner violence will follow a cyclic pattern. This pattern begins with an
initial event of abuse such as a physical attack, sexual assault or emotional manipulation, it is
then followed by a buildup of tension from the abused trying to keep the peace and the abuser
trying to keep from lashing out again. The third aspect of the cycle of abuse is a period of
makeup, where the abuser apologizes often promising not to do it again while simultaneously
placing all the blame on the victim. The final part of the cycle is a period of calm, where both
people act as if nothing is wrong. The latter half of the cycle generally lasts a while, but the longer
the abuse phases last, the shorter the makeup and calm stages last. Because of the consistent stress
placed on a victim of intimate partner violence, it is not uncommon for people who are stuck in
this cycle to develop symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder or

What Is Mental Health Normal Or Abnormal
Mental Health Normal or abnormal.
Mental health is described as a state of emotional and psychological well being in which an
individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and
meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. The impairment of behaviour in psychological and
interpersonal disciplines in daily life are some of the aspects that are more likely to be
considered as a sign of abnormality. Another aspect of abnormality in society is that when a
person contrast in behaviour and intelligence from the majority of people, wether good or bad, is
classed under an abnormal behaviour, it is also known as statistical infrequency. One of the well
known case emerged in USA, where 58 year old man from USA, remembers up to half the days of
his own life in shockingly vivid detail (The Telegraph). He was diagnosed with a condition called
hyperthymestia, meaning overdeveloped memory. This rare condition is only discovered in just
four people around the world. Another aspect of measuring mental health is deviation from social
norms and cultural relativism. For example, homosexuality is still considered as a mental illness or
abnormal behaviour in most of the countries, including India and Africa.
The two different form of classification systems are widely used to identify the psychological
disorders in depth. An International Classification of Diseases 10th edition (ICD 10; World Health
Organization, 1992) and the Diagnostic and

First, I would like to apologize for being late. It was entirely my fault, I had confused the 2:30
NSA presentation as being the one I was supposed to write the report on, and I am truly sorry for
causing you and/or Columbus State as a whole any embarrassment in front of the FBI. When I
arrived, David had just begun about bitcoins and then later moved on into the deep web with a
focus on a website called The Silk Road. From this, I am assuming that what I had missed in the
beginning was related to these two things, meaning that the presentation as a whole focused on
internet activity. To start off with bitcoins, this was the more interesting talk to me and I feel very
lucky to have caught it in time. While I did not learn as much as I did the later part of the... Show

David s explanation helped to clear all this up for me, and while I acknowledge there is much
more to learn, I feel like he has given me a stepping stone to go and understand the rest on my
own. What I gathered from him was that the bitcoins are mined through dedicated systems
working to solve complex math problems. From my past experience I know that these problems
are generated by collecting all pending bitcoin transactions and transforming them into a massive
puzzle. What I did not know was that these puzzles were generated every ten minutes, with the
reward for solving each puzzle being twenty five bitcoins. I found this time based system to be
interesting as I would have expected it to be a transaction based system. For example, every one
hundred transactions, or however many is necessary to maintain balance, would be transformed into
puzzle, instead of it just being however many are collected in ten minutes. I also did not realize just
how competitive bitcoin mining had become. Between the student s comment on his experience
attempting to mine a bitcoin and David s

The Vancouver rock band was the first demonstration to sign with Nickelback frontman Chad
Kroeger s 604 records in 2001. Tyler Connolly (lead vocals, lead guitar) apparently slipped
Kroeger a duplicate of the band s demo at a post show party and the two were soon teaming up
on tunes together. One of these melodies, Undetectable Man, was utilized as the B side for 2002 s
uncontrollably fruitful Spider Man topic Legend and the band discharged their first collection,
Hypothesis of a Deadman , soon thereafter. Hypothesis contributed another melody, co composed
with The Exies artist Scott Stevens, called Head Above Water to the Transformers: Dark of the

John Hersey s Hiroshima Essay
John Hersey s Hiroshima
John Hersey s Hiroshima is a factual account about the day the United States government
dropped the first atom bomb on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. John interviewed six survivors and
reported their stories in a factual but interesting fashion. He gives a brief description of each person
and tells of his or her daily activities both before and after the explosion. Hersey s descriptions of
people and events give the reader a feeling of actually being at the scene. He intensifies each
character s need to survive. The sense of survival is deeply rooted in the hearts of most people.
One of the survivors ( hibakusha as they were known), Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura, is described as ...a

Mrs. Nakamura s sense of survival saved her life and the lives of her three children. Even though
her rationality was blurred at times, such as getting overcoats for the children in the middle of
summer and throwing her sewing machine into the water tank, her desire to survive pushed her
beyond her limits.
In comparison, the Testimony of Toshiko Saeki tells of a young woman s struggle to find her
family after the bomb was dropped. The woman s name is
Toshiko Saeki who, at the time of the bombing, was with her children at her parents home which
was far away from Hiroshima. She saw a flash of light then felt heat surrounding her body. She
then heard a loud noise and saw windows and doors being blown away into the air. When she
realized what had happened her first instinct was to go to Hiroshima to find the rest of her
family. On her way she saw a naked man holding a piece of iron over his head. She was
embarrassed and turned her back on him. The man was passing by me, thn, I don t know why,
But I ran after him and I asked him to stop for a moment. I asked him, Which part of Hiroshima
was attacked? Then the man put down the piece of iron and he started at me. He said, You re
Toshiko, aren t you? He said, Toshiko! (Saeki 1). Toshiko couldn t tell who he was until he said, It
s me! It s me, Toshiko! You can t tell? (Saeki 1).
She then realized it was one of her brothers, the second eldest. Toshiko searched for her

The Ethics Of Business Ethics In Industrial Relations
Business Ethics in Industrial Relations
ABSTRACT
Industrial relations study has generally revolved around institutions of workplace governance, and
their effect on the interests of different parties, supplemented on occasion by concern for employee
voice. Business ethics has focused on individuals actions and on policies or rules that ought to
apply to them, but has neglected workplace institutions. Between the two areas there is a gap,
where studies about institutions of workplace governance fail to deal with issues of ethics at work
and where studies of business ethics neglect institutional arrangements. Attempts to bridge the gap
do not seem to have considered the effects which institutions have on individuals as ethical decision
makers, and the way that arrangements like incentive structures or effi ciency requirements can
place individuals in ethical dilemmas or encourage them to ignore ethics entirely. In the design of
workplace institutions, consideration needs to be given not only to the ... Show more content on

adhere to some minimal standards of ethics. Business is a cooperative activity whose very

  • 2. A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines Essay While we all would agree that racism is immoral and has no place in a modern society, that was not the case in the U.S. in the 1940s. At the time African Americans were treated as second class citizens, it was made near impossible for them to vote, and they were discriminated in many ways including in education, socially and in employment. It was a time in which segregation and racism perforated the laws and society, a time in which African Americans were separate but equal, segregation was legal and in full force. Apartheid was also everywhere from the books to in society. Blacks were not truly seen as equal as they were seen the the lesser of the two and it very much felt that way. Blacks were oppressed in many ways including having... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stance that is taken in the court to criminalize Jefferson is detrimental because they make Jefferson lose his dignity as a man. Jefferson is compared to something that is seen as a rodent, and taking such a stance makes Jefferson lose all the hope that he has. When the defense referred to Jefferson as a boy and not a man, jefferson was being talked down by the side that was supposed to be his own. This a Man? No, not I. I would all it a boy and a fool (Gaines 7). Jefferson is being talked to like a boy, a fool. It is implied that he is inexperienced and he didn t know what he was doing as much as a toddler wouldn t. While the defense was on his side, it referred to him as a fool because of the color of his skin. The defense is making out Jefferson to be an innocent bystander and in the process making jefferson seem to be a manchild. It is not only making Jefferson seem like he was too idiotic to move out of the way, he is also being dehumanized. I would just as soon put a hog in the electric chair as this (Gaines ). When the defense compares Jefferson to a hog, he is saying that Jefferson is just as insignificant. It s dehumanizing in that Jefferson is made out to be an insignificant low life. Jefferson s defence is getting a point across, but it s not the right one because I don t want them to kill no hog, she said. I want a man to go to that chair, on his own two feet. I asked an equal amount of men and women to get an even opinion from both genders. The questionnaire had five questions that were: 1.What is your gender? 2.What would you prefer in a music video? 3.When watching a music video, what do you focus on more? 4.Do you think women are over sexualised in the music industry? 5.Do you think men are over sexualised in the music industry? From conducting the questionnaire I can conclude that 95% of the people I asked believed that women were being oversexualised. When watching a music video they focused more on the song and choreography, than how attractive the people in the music video were. The results from the questionnaire suggest that most people aren t superficial when it comes to the music industry, however my research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So many facts about welfare are overwhelming, such that over 12,800,000 Americans are on the welfare system. The entire social welfare system is in desperate need of a complete reform. In order for a proper reform to ensue, the people of America must combine efforts with the U.S. government to revitalize the current welfare system. Aboriginal and Torres strait islander mothers find c section birth to be more preferred as it doesn t risk the mother and child, but this is not always the case (Baby Care, 2018). About 1 in 12 women get an infection, such as cellulitis, abdominal abscess, thrush, urinary tract and bladder infection after having a c section birth (D. R. Wilson, 2018). Indigenous mothers are more likely to develop these infections. These infections could be easily being treated by the consumption of antibiotics. Communication between researchers is found to be highly effective, as more and more mothers in indigenous communities and other communities are being more aware and notified about the effects of c section birth to the child and mother. The samples collected back up the researcher s statements and provide the public about how this can be improved. • 9. Copyright Laws Should Be Legal Over two centuries ago Congress enacted the first copyright law with the intent that it would allow authors and creators of works to be the sole profiters and exclusive rights holders over their work for a specified time. After the specified period of time ended, the works would pass into ownership of the general public. Since the CopyrightAct of 1790, copyright laws have continued to evolve and still struggle to keep up with an ever changing, fast paced society. With the use of the World Wide Web and the ease of downloading, copying, and file sharing increasing, copyright holders in the United States and those with vested interested in copyright laws are calling for changes to be made to copyright laws. In more recent years, additional concerns with online copyright laws have arisen, leading some to call for stricter laws, while others are calling for more lenient laws, and questions on the legality of the laws continue to surface. Overtime copyrights have come to hold a significant economic bearing on companies and the Chamber of Commerce estimated copyright infringement and counterfeiting costs copyright holders $135 billion each year, making the issue of copyright law on the forefront of a lot of corporation s agendas (Callander, S. Hoyt D. 2013). One of the more controversial copyright laws that deals with both foreign and domestic online activity is the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) that was proposed to the House of Representatives in 2011 (Carrier, M. 2013). ... MacLeish says in his last lines that the poem should be so well written that the reader knows exactly what the poem is, but not what it means. Marianne Moore clarifies poetry as something that should be original and something that is genuine so that it becomes interesting to the reader. She states this through out her poem when in the beginning she states that poems become unintelligible when they are derivative. Then she ends her poem writing that it must be original, not repetitive to interest the reader. The views and expectations that MacLeish and Moore have of poetry are somewhat similar because of how their opinions cross. MacLeish thinks poetry should not tell the reader what it means, but a poem should be so well written that the reader is able to know what the poem is about. • 29. East Of Eden By John Steinbeck John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden , discloses the answer of right and wrong, good versus evil and overcoming sin with a simple Hebrew word Timshel , meaning thou mayest, allowing us the freedom to make our individual decisions or choose our path in life; it s actually God s perfect gift to everyone. In the beginning, God grants us free will so that we have the ability to love and accept him or not. However, had God not chosen to grant us free will, we would not be human as we know it today, for the original sinwould never have occurred. Likewise, people s inability to experience emotions of any kind, whatsoever, would turn us into mere mundane robots, forced to listen and answer to an authoritarian God. Lee plays an instrumental part in East of Eden, by not only bringing into focus Timshel and its meaning to the Trask family but through his strength and character as a whole, for without Lee East of Eden and the concept of Timshel is non existent. Lee s character in East of Eden commences when Adam and Cathy move to California and Adam purchases land or his Garden in Eden as Adam refers to it. Lee described in the beginning as a Chinaman sporting a queue and only speaking in pidgin. However, the more one discovers about Lee in the book; the more one finds this is not the case at all. • 32. The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs And Jews The conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews is a phenomenon that stems from the struggle over land defined exclusively as a Holy Land by both groups. Their competing claim to this territory and the constant struggle for exclusive political control has created irreconcilable differences. Jewish claim over the land is based on a covenant made between God and Abraham and the need for haven from the growing anti Semitism in Europe. Palestinian Arabs claims to the land are based on their continuous residence in the country and the rejection of the notion that ancient kingdoms constitute claims over land in a modern time. They believe that because Abraham s son Ishmael is the forefather of the Arabs, then God s promise of the land to the children of Abraham include them as well. Although the land of Palestinewas inhabited by a range of individuals living in peace, the growing tension from the Zionist group, as well as the influx of Jewish immigration created growing anti Semitism, which led to the Jewish push towards finding a haven. In the late 1800s, a group of extremist minorities of the Jewish population began to colonize what was then Palestine. Known as Zionists, their goal was to create a Jewish homeland, a haven from the growing anti Semitism. When looking at Kilbourne s two premises it is easy to agree with premise one, that commercials do degrade women, but there doesn t seem to be the connection between women being degraded, to these commercials being manipulative. In the printed ad Cigarette Women, there is a small picture with a male and female actress, not very clear, but still noticeable. To the ignorant eye, it would be viewed as harmless, but in the eyes of Kilbourne it speaks so much more. The position of the women in the picture could be seen as helpless and dependent on the man who has a powerful stance. The clothes on these two models could be seen in a similar way with the man being fully clothed in a business, while the woman is in a short white dress. These are two factors that do show this picture to be degrading and provocative, but it isn t manipulating. Manipulation can be seen with having the traits of being forceful, by being tricky, or to falsify for one owns advantage. This picture of the man and the women is not forceful by any means, is does not threaten or pump fear in the minds of the audience. There doesn t seem to be anything falsified to be tricky for the advertisement company s own good. So Kilbourne s idea that by degrading women these companies are manipulative, is false. However, after the release of the satirical Beggar s Opera, by John Gay, in early 1728, the popularity of Italian Opera began to decline, because Gay s work s prevalent theme ridiculed the stereotypical plots in Italian opera. The main character, Hamlet, continuously reflects on revenge throughout the play, particularly in his soliloquies. Nevertheless, he has been procrastinating, talking about the situation, but not demonstrating it. In an honour code, it displays coward like qualities. Revenge is effectively represented in Hamlet, as it allows to develop a strong understanding of human strengths and frailties. This is because it represents the different forms of deceptive plots that result in the situation of death. This is clearly evident in Hamlet s interaction with his father s ghost, convincing him to murder Claudius for revenge, which extends into the play that is acted out, proving that he is the murderer of his father. Also, Hamlet s third and most famous soliloquyprovides the reader with a reflection on death in his melancholic state of mind, and Hamlet also refrains from killing Claudius as he is praying and decides to killhim at another time. To begin with, the exploration of human strengths and frailties in Shakespeare s Hamlet provides a strong understanding of the complex nature of revenge, because Hamlet is determined to kill Claudius, which is the main reason for his father s death. This is the most pivotal moment at the end of Act 1 because it leads Hamlet into insanity because it s his primary mode of interacting with other people later in the play. The idea is used by Shakespeare to further develop Hamlet s character because the concept of sin must be returned with punishment because Claudius has committed a sin on his father. The quote Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder, is used as a motif on the centre of honesty, as it explores the fact that Hamlet would do something for his father if they had a close relationship. He is rather keen to undertake this task so that he can get revenge on Claudius. With wings as swift as meditation or the thoughts of love may sweep to my revenge, uses a simile to express Hamlet s determination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. United States Interagency Council On Homelessness In recent years, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have identified rapid re housing as a critical strategy to meeting the national goal of ending family homelessness by 2020 (USICH 2013). As noted in a recent update of Opening Doors, the federal plan to end homelessness, [US Department of Health and Human Services], HUD, [the US Department of Veterans Affairs], and USICH have joined forces to promote expansion of rapid re housing as a part of community coordinated systemsп‚ј (USICH 2013). Rapid re housing, an intervention that helps homeless families exit shelters and get back into permanent housing quickly, provides short term help with housing expenses (e.g., rent arrears, ongoing rent assistance, moving costs) and case management focused on housing stability. Rapid re housing is a relatively new but, as early evidence shows, promising strategy that communities across the country are adopting. The emphasis on rapid re housing represents a significant shift in the response to family homelessness toward a Housing First philosophy. Increased attention on rapid re housing, accompanied by an influx of resources, and expansion of programs, elicits urgent need for more rigorous evaluation, some of which is already underway. There is a small, but growing, body of evidence on the efficacy of rapid re housing. Drawing on program data and early findings from evaluations in progress, this brief ... Before I begin, I want to thank you and I am honor to be here. My experience and relationship with Deafhood is different but honestly I am happy to be here. To the board, thank you for inviting me here and to the community, thank you for inviting me here. I speak for myself, no, I speak for my various intersecting communities: The Deaf, Deaf Blind, people of color including Native American, Black, South East Asian, West African, and all of the groups, and the disabled people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am not here to benefit the hearing people by speaking. But if a hearing person tells me but you know I have a deaf friend who says speech is better. That one deaf person does not represent the whole Deaf community. Each of you represent something, each of you have a story to tell, each of you have a background, we need to listen to each of you. We cannot say when one has a friend who is Deaf Blind and make assumptions on what this person needs. We must listen to a person and provide the necessary accommodations based on this person s needs. Community Collective means all including people of color, disabled, Deaf blind, all of them. It begins with LAL, that is, listening for understanding with love. You may become defensive but you cannot listen and say wait. You must listen to understand in order to love the process itself. Sometimes people will disagree with you. For example, I have a dialogue with the KKK, do I like it? no, but I need to understand why. I don t have to agree with them. In a strange way, I do understand KKK because the KKK members were taught that way by their families and they want to be accepted by their families. It s human nature. • 42. Cognitive Therapy Essay The stigma of mental illness has led many to suffer in silence. For those afflicted, acceptance or even treatment is too unrealistic of a notion to seek out the help they so desperately need and want. In the field of psychology, therapy is a way for experts and patients to collaborate, and over the course of their relationship, understand and eliminate problematic behaviors and thought processes that may be affecting their patient s life. There are quite a few different approaches to therapy; common therapeutic approaches are humanistic, behavior, and cognitive therapies. For someone in need of a way to rectify a mental disorder or as a method of self improvement, therapeutic assistance in any of these fields may be a boon. For a non specific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cognitive therapists seek to disrupt the harmful cyclic thinking that fuels many neurotic disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder (Myers, 2004). Cognitive therapy focuses on conscious re labeling of negative thought processes in order to help a patient develop a constructive world view and mental thought pattern (Myers, 2004). Cognitive therapists work to systematically correct fallacious thought processes such as personalization (attributing perceived negative events as having to do with oneself), dichotomous thinking (a binary, all or nothing pattern of thinking), selective abstraction (acknowledging only certain aspects of an event, usually the most negative), and magnification minimization (misinterpreting the importance of an event) in order to stabilize the patient s mood (Herkov, 2016). A subset of cognitive therapy is cognitive behavior therapy, which combines the behavior modifying techniques of behavior therapy with the conscious thought re labeling of cognitive therapy into a cohesive technique. As David G. Myers says on page 671 of Psychology, it seeks to make people aware of their irrational negative thinking, to replace it with new ways of thinking, and to practice the more positive approach in everyday settings ... • 43. The Dumbest Generation The Dumbest Generation A few years ago, I decided to learn sign language. It was not a project for a class, a requirement to graduate, or a fact that everyone knew. I just wanted to learn sign language, so I did what many twenty first century millennials do and downloaded an app. The app showed me diagrams to learn basic phrases, videos to perfect the movements, and lessons to learn more efficiently. The technology of the app made learningsign language easy, and I could use it wherever I went. I thought that I was smart for using technology to learn specific things, but Mark Bauerlein, the author of a 2008 book called The Dumbest Generation, would disagree. According to Bauerlein, twenty first century teenagers possess low knowledgelevels when compared to past generations because of the increased use of technology. However, Bauerlein is mistaken. This generation is not the dumbest generation because we focus on different topics, we write more often, and we know that every generation has been called the dumbest . Every generation is different, and the information that is commonly learned in each generation is affected by the events surrounding that time period. As stated in The Dumbest Generation? Don t Be Dumbarticle written by Sharon Begley, the reason why people cared more about politics in 1966 than now was because politics determined whether or not you were going to get drafted and shipped to Vietnam . Today, teenagers do not care as much about politics because, although it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cause And Effect Essay On Intimate Partner Abuse When you close your eyes and all you can feel is their hands on your body, ripping and tearing at your clothes, holding a hand over your mouth, you think you re screaming but you re not sure. Then you feel their hot breath on your neck as you remember the things they said you re worthless , you re a waste of space , nobody will ever love you like I do , I m the only one who loves you . Part of your brain shuts down to protect yourself from what s happening, and what s happened in the past. When you open your eyes you re still alone, there s nobody there, but you re still shaking like you did that night, wanting to scrub your skin until its raw just to get the feeling of their touch off your body, feeling the hot tears well behind your eyes as you try to convince yourself they re wrong about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On average a woman will experience some form of abuse approximately every nine seconds. This statistic may be higher in areas where women are regarded as property more than human. Frequently intimate partner violence will follow a cyclic pattern. This pattern begins with an initial event of abuse such as a physical attack, sexual assault or emotional manipulation, it is then followed by a buildup of tension from the abused trying to keep the peace and the abuser trying to keep from lashing out again. The third aspect of the cycle of abuse is a period of makeup, where the abuser apologizes often promising not to do it again while simultaneously placing all the blame on the victim. The final part of the cycle is a period of calm, where both people act as if nothing is wrong. The latter half of the cycle generally lasts a while, but the longer the abuse phases last, the shorter the makeup and calm stages last. Because of the consistent stress placed on a victim of intimate partner violence, it is not uncommon for people who are stuck in this cycle to develop symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder or ... • 45. What Is Mental Health Normal Or Abnormal Mental Health Normal or abnormal. Mental health is described as a state of emotional and psychological well being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. The impairment of behaviour in psychological and interpersonal disciplines in daily life are some of the aspects that are more likely to be considered as a sign of abnormality. Another aspect of abnormality in society is that when a person contrast in behaviour and intelligence from the majority of people, wether good or bad, is classed under an abnormal behaviour, it is also known as statistical infrequency. One of the well known case emerged in USA, where 58 year old man from USA, remembers up to half the days of his own life in shockingly vivid detail (The Telegraph). He was diagnosed with a condition called hyperthymestia, meaning overdeveloped memory. This rare condition is only discovered in just four people around the world. Another aspect of measuring mental health is deviation from social norms and cultural relativism. For example, homosexuality is still considered as a mental illness or abnormal behaviour in most of the countries, including India and Africa. The two different form of classification systems are widely used to identify the psychological disorders in depth. When I arrived, David had just begun about bitcoins and then later moved on into the deep web with a focus on a website called The Silk Road. From this, I am assuming that what I had missed in the beginning was related to these two things, meaning that the presentation as a whole focused on internet activity. What I gathered from him was that the bitcoins are mined through dedicated systems working to solve complex math problems. From my past experience I know that these problems are generated by collecting all pending bitcoin transactions and transforming them into a massive puzzle. What I did not know was that these puzzles were generated every ten minutes, with the reward for solving each puzzle being twenty five bitcoins. I found this time based system to be interesting as I would have expected it to be a transaction based system. For example, every one hundred transactions, or however many is necessary to maintain balance, would be transformed into puzzle, instead of it just being however many are collected in ten minutes. I also did not realize just how competitive bitcoin mining had become. Between the student s comment on his experience attempting to mine a bitcoin and David s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He gives a brief description of each person and tells of his or her daily activities both before and after the explosion. Hersey s descriptions of people and events give the reader a feeling of actually being at the scene. He intensifies each character s need to survive. Even though her rationality was blurred at times, such as getting overcoats for the children in the middle of summer and throwing her sewing machine into the water tank, her desire to survive pushed her beyond her limits. In comparison, the Testimony of Toshiko Saeki tells of a young woman s struggle to find her family after the bomb was dropped. The woman s name is Toshiko Saeki who, at the time of the bombing, was with her children at her parents home which was far away from Hiroshima. She saw a flash of light then felt heat surrounding her body. She then heard a loud noise and saw windows and doors being blown away into the air. When she realized what had happened her first instinct was to go to Hiroshima to find the rest of her family. On her way she saw a naked man holding a piece of iron over his head. She was embarrassed and turned her back on him. The man was passing by me, thn, I don t know why, But I ran after him and I asked him to stop for a moment. I asked him, Which part of Hiroshima was attacked? Then the man put down the piece of iron and he started at me. He said, You re Toshiko, aren t you? He said, Toshiko! (Saeki 1). • 49. The Ethics Of Business Ethics In Industrial Relations Business Ethics in Industrial Relations ABSTRACT Industrial relations study has generally revolved around institutions of workplace governance, and their effect on the interests of different parties, supplemented on occasion by concern for employee voice. Business ethics has focused on individuals actions and on policies or rules that ought to apply to them, but has neglected workplace institutions. Between the two areas there is a gap, where studies about institutions of workplace governance fail to deal with issues of ethics at work and where studies of business ethics neglect institutional arrangements. Attempts to bridge the gap do not seem to have considered the effects which institutions have on individuals as ethical decision makers, and the way that arrangements like incentive structures or efп¬Ѓ ciency requirements can place individuals in ethical dilemmas or encourage them to ignore ethics entirely.
