harsh observation, yet is important in realizing Chandler s excessive use of simile.

redundancy that Chandler whole heartedly navigates to perilous depths.

deterring readers from finding the more interesting themes, such as truth and loyalty,

addition to this, I will select certain methods of research that I believe will be
applicable to my own dissertation and state why I will use those particular methods to

This approach to research has obvious advantages, namely its objectivity. It cannot
be considered bias or subverted due to the theorisers own predispositions or
opinions and it should therefore be true of itself; it is not subject to change as it
merely categorises a factual state and it provides definitive answers from its research
as opposed to just more questions or debatable theories. It does however have a
number of disadvantages. It is arguable that the scientific method has no place in
political theory as much of it is based in abstract theorising which cannot be
objectively proved one way or the other and as such would be dismissed as
irrelevant by the scientific methods (which is clearly wrong). Further, unlike in the
natural sciences, the scientific method tends to be only descriptive of political
science and does not in fact advance it in any way, rather it merely attempts to
describe the state it is presently in (for example, it would not predict who will win
the next election, but it would say who won the last one). Therefore, the scientific
method is best used if we wish the results of our research to return as objective facts,
empirically provable and repeatable. Whilst this does not necessarily have a major
place in political sociology, it is useful in interpreting quantifiable results that are not
statistical in nature.

period of growth started in Latin America, based on the export of raw materials to
emerging industrial nations. Unlike the ruling classes in other parts of the world, the
so called oligarchic order in Latin America concentrated the resulting large surplus in
the hands of small traditional elites who imitated the consumption patterns of
European upper classes, rather than seeking to enhance their countries education,

1950s and early 1960s, industrialization failed to reach a point at which it was self

consumer goods, only a comparatively small wealthy segment of the population could

market for manufactured consumer durables, and the expansion of manufacturing
employment. Accordingly this did little or nothing to reduce inequality.
Industrialization produced by inward investment and by internal consumption of
expensive products could only be sustained in Latin America in a period when
external funding was easy to obtain. This came to an end with the debt crisis of the

holding time are positively correlated. After performing a simple study to test these
two factors, it was found that they are in fact not correlated at all. Both lung capacity
and breath holding time have many different influencing factors that make them
uncorrelated to each other.
I.Introduction
To begin to understand lung capacity and breath holding, one must fully
comprehend the anatomy and physiology of the two systems involved in
respiration. While all cells in the body receive and use oxygen, it is the
cardiovascular and respiratory systems that collect oxygen, transport it to cells, and
remove harmful carbon dioxide from the body. When we inhale, oxygen enters the
body through the mouth or the nasal cavity and then travels down the pharynx
(throat) and through the larynx (voice box). The oxygen then enters the trachea
(windpipe), a long tube that carries air to the lungs. The trachea branches out into
two sections before arriving at the lungs, one tube per each lung. These two tubes
are known as the bronchi. The bronchi are surrounded with small tubes of smooth
muscle called bronchioles. These bronchioles can either constrict or dilate around
the bronchi to allow more or less air to flow into the lungs. Finally, the bronchioles
attach to thin sacs of air called alveoli. This is where gas exchange occurs. The

published information from the Guttmacher Institute s census of abortion providers
(Finer and Henshaw 2003; Jones and Kavanaugh 2011). Following prior research, I
used the CDC s age distribution for each year to calculate the expected number of
abortions that occurred in the age distribution of Add Health for each year, except in
the years when an age distribution was collected by the Guttmacher Institute s survey

These two stories were written during the Anglo Saxon period. Anglo Saxon was
also the time of Medieval England. Each story gives a good representation of this
time. It is necessary to learn about this period in order to get the full impact of
these stories. To understand that Medieval England was very different compared
to the current time is very important before reading the two stories. In the Anglo
Saxon time they had no rights for animals, they would simply slaughter them for
all the food they could eat. In today s time there are animal rights. For example,
there are animal rights activists. They believe that animals should not be killed for
food or sport. Today s societal views would have been laughed at from the point of
view of the medieval world. Today we have the luxury of being able to drive down
the street, run into the grocery store, and purchase whatever food we need. The
Anglo Saxon s did not have cars nor were there grocery stores. As for the Anglo
Saxon s, they had to get their own food whatever way possible. That meant they
had to go out and kill animals for their meat, have their own gardens in order to
have. The medieval period was one of wars, fighting, and killing. In that time people
were killing other people without the consequences of jail time like there is today.

Everyone grows up wanting to be a college athlete, and have stories to tell when
they are older and at the dinner table with their children about what most would call
their glory days. While this is ultimately true, many young teens don t know the
struggles and hardships that college athletes go through each and every day. There

the person and if they are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to live the glory

When you grow up you admire to be like one of those athletes that went to a big
school, and made it to the pro level. What most teenagers don t understand is it isn
t easy for those big time athletes. There are a lot of benefits that come with being a
student athlete, such as getting free gear, having a free tutor, and other little perks.
The disadvantages that come with it is, missing class, having a lower GPA than
the kid next to you, and not having a real college life. Being a NCAA Div. 1, Div. 2,
Div. 3, and NAIA athlete is a mixture of being treated like royalty and a puzzle
piece. It doesn t matter if you re a top athlete, playing in Div. 1 or an average player
in NAIA, it comes with a lot of hard work and struggles. I as a Div. 1 athlete always
thought it would be fun and games. Coming into college I was a four star recruit
thinking I was going to play every minutes of every collegiate game. I come to find
out that College sports isn t like that. Everyday is a tryout; you have to work hard to
