reader that calculus isn t as evil as everyone makes it seem, and to show its uses in
everyday life. This happens expertly by using relatable topics such as gambling in
Vegas, how to lose weight, and how to survive the zombie apocalypse. Ouellette
makes it a key point that anyone can understand and apply calculus, even those who
dread even hearing the term. In addition, since every chapter has a new topic the
characters around her vary, but she remains the narrator of the story. One explanation
about why she does this is because she describes calculus as being on par with a story
where the main character and viewpoint can change the entire meaning of the story....
One weakness this book has though is the fact that it sometimes strayed too far from
the main purpose of the book that the reader could become bored before the author
reaches her main point. For example, on many occasions throughout the book
Ouellette dives too deep into the history of the people who came up with theories,
hypotheses, or equations and this distracts from the main purpose of the book, which
is to make calculus more engaging for the readers. Finally, this book was enjoyable
because it allowed for a better understanding of a complicated topic by using a variety
of interesting examples where calculus is important. Also, since the longer chapters
where broken up into smaller sections it was easier to read it faster and making the
book more pleasurable. I would recommend this book highly to other students who
want to go into a career that will deal with a bunch of calculus because it
intelligently shows you the basic concepts, but in an easy to understand way. This
book challenges the reader to take a step back and look at the more interesting side of
calculus to gain a more solid understanding. For the mechanical engineering major,
one must complete Calculus I, II, and III, so having a strong foundation of knowledge
makes these easier in the long run. Also, the test this book puts on its readers is to

Diamonds to signify anonymity and confederacy, and the library card which
symbolizes a mundane reality.
In the story the Ace of Diamonds is something that the author and his friends use to
show their gang. A bit like a gang patch or gang colours. They wear hankies with
red diamonds painted on them when they do their pranks, and leave an Ace of
Diamonds card at each of their crime scenes . To the members of The Ace of
Diamonds Gang the Ace of Diamonds represents more than just a gang. It
represents a brotherhood, a confederacy, a clear exception to approved society .
These boys see themselves as outlaws a bit like Robin Hood or Ned Kelly. This is
apparent with the author in particular. He saw the gang as an escape from being
thirteen years old in a provincial town which shows that he saw his ordinary life as

On March 26, 2014 I visited a one artist photography exhibition held in the Thomas
F. Riley terminal at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California. This exhibition
featured photography by Kevin Warn. The type of work on display varied from
black and white and color prints to very large prints, 16x20 or larger and smaller
8x10 prints. Most of the photos were printed on canvas and the others did not

I liked the composition of this photo. It was taken from underneath, looking down
the length of the pier. What I loved about this photo is that the pillars closest to the
lens are much distorted and the Pacific Ocean has soothing yet eerie radium like
glow to it. It s a very strange photograph and I absolutely loved it. The second photo
was titled The Coffee Shop. Photo is a black and white print taken in Italy 2010. It is
of a group of men (I think) and they appear to be walking in the middle of a road or

with high school students, but also with younger generations. Drinking is all over the

The Pirates of Penzance was an opera performed by the Southwest Texas Opera
Workshop. The Pirates of Penzance, composed by Gilbert amp; Sullivan, is a light
hearted parody of the traditional opera. This opera takes place somewhere in the
British Virgin Islands. It is about a boy, Federic, who is to be apprenticed by his
nurse, Ruth, to become a pilot. Ruth mistakes the word pilot for pirate and
apprentices him to a band of pirates. She, too, remains with them as a maid of all
work.
Act I opens with the celebration of Frederic s coming of age. He is planning to
leave the pirates and devote his life to the eradication of piracy. Now that Frederic has

While this goes on, the Pirate King and Ruth discover Frederic was born on February
29, leap year. This discovery leads them to realize that Frederic has only had 5
birthdays, making him well short of the 21 years he must serve the pirates. Upon
learning this, Frederic rejoins the pirates and tells them of the Major General s
deception he practiced upon them. The Major General is once again seized by the
pirates, only to be rescued by the police. Ruth, however, explains to the police and
Major General Stanley that the pirates are truly noblemen gone wrong and gets them
pardoned. They are in turn permitted to marry the Major General s many daughters.
The Friday, January 29 performance that I attended contained many extraordinary
performances, especially that of Frederic, Mabel, the Major General Stanley and the
Pirate King. Although the entire cast was good, these performances stood out the
most.
Matthew Kendrick did a wonderful job as Frederic. His voice was smooth and
clear, though a bit soft. His quieter voice made it difficult to understand most of the
words he was singing, especially when his back was to the audience. He seemed a
little uneasy on stage by himself, but his chemistry when on stage with Pam
Brumley, who played the part of Mabel, was outstanding. What Kendrick lacked in
sound she made up for with her strong, crisp voice. Their voices blended together
