Social Movement Analysis
However, McLeod (2009) stated that there is very limited discourse when it comes to the media
and the two party systems only hinders the discourse even more (p. 116). People become less
aware of the happenings around them and may even have trouble identifying how they feel about
issues and conflicts when they arise. They could have a point of view outside of the norm but say
nothing about it because people and groups outside of the mainstream are treated as deviants
(McLeod, 2009, p. 116).
McLeod (2009) investigated transcripts of the CNN and Fox News coverage of the conflict over
U.S. policy toward Iraq after the events of September 11, 2001 that lead to the war which began
on March 20, 2003 (p. 117). This conflict was chosen because it ... Show more content on

theorists subscribe to the view that not only should citizens form opinions, but the government has
a responsibility to respond to those opinions (Roth, 2004, p. 9). The government has the tendency
to respond to these opinions, whether the response be in favor of the public opinion or not. The
definition of this theory is, The desires, wants, and thinking of the majority of the people or

Ankle Injury
Ankle injuries are on the most common injuries that most athletes have to deal with throughout
their playing career, some research has shown that an ankle sprain is seven times more like to
occur than other injuries. With this being said a lot of coaches require their athletes to either tape
or have a brace on the ankle to prevent the injury from occurring in the first place, however
evidence has shown that the use of an ankle brace does not always prevent the injury from
happening. So the question becomes does the brace impair the athlete to perform at their highest
level. In this study they took ten healthy D 3 male athletes, and ten female athletes. They used
video analysis to record the kinematics of the lower extremities during a countermovement

Foreign Language And Its Effects On American Society
The foreign language deficit in America serves to be inimical to the future of American society.
America s foreign language curriculum displays a more than lackluster approach in relation to
those upheld in other countries. Unlike our European counterparts, most American school systems
only require that students acquire two foreign languagecredits to graduate. Most of the time, these
courses are either taught by some athletic coach who could really care less if you know how to
conjugate the verb ir correctly, or by an overly passionate foreigner who spends the class time
intensively explaining said conjugations to a class full of seniors who just want to graduate. In
some states, this requirement is even nonexistent.

Most of the tacticians throughout Europe and Asia have procured a mastery of several different
languages, English to be included. In accordance with American history, only half of our presidents
(21 to be precise) had a command on a foreign language, sometimes demonstrating a fluency in
both reading and writing in multiple foreign languages. The majority of these men held office
between the 18th and 19th centuries, when language retained greater value in society. The
presidents of the 20th and 21st century do not have the same qualities.
As stated in David Skorton and Glenn Altschuler s article entitled America s Foreign Language
Deficit , learning a foreign language is necessary...
To prosper economically and to improve relations with other countries, U.S. Secretary of Education
Arne Duncan declared, Americans need to read, speak and understand other languages. ...18% of
Americans report speaking a language other than English, while 53% of Europeans (and increasing
numbers in other parts of the world) can converse in a second language.
Multiple studies exist that display the lack of effort exhibited in America in terms of language
learning. According to the Forbes article, the amount of private elementary schools that offer
foreign language courses dropped from 31 to 25 percent, while instruction in public elementary
schools dropped from 24 percent to 15 percent. Even the percentage of middle schools with foreign
language programs decreased from 75 to 58 percent.

Charles Perrault’s Cinderella
In Cinderella by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of
a mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on
materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty.
Cinderellais a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing
unsuitable personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she
admits that her tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by
her stepsisters. Portrayed with low self esteem and insecurity, she does not respond harshly to their
cruel insults. As a result, the main character relies on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, her true beauty lies within her skin, as Perrault s interprets Cinderella as a hundred
times more handsome than her sisters . He aims to focus more on female recognition and self
fulfillment, rather than provide a base for all readers to understand fully (HuМ€hn). At an
elementary level, this may not influence children to an extent, but other stories that reproduce
this same structure of plot elements could possibly influence children in the future. For instance,
she was not the hero of the story. The Prince isn t the hero until he discovers her lost possession,
a glass slipper, and searched for the person that fits. As told by Perrault, he had done nothing but
look at her all the time, and that most certainly he was very much in love with the beautiful
owner of the glass slipper. This enforces the fact that her beauty prevails over her actual
personality but not behavior, and the appearance and mannerisms surely impressed the Prince.
The Prince stereotypes the role of women being in need of a destined lover. He is the one that
identifies Cinderella as the one in the dress, though excluding behavior, her appearance dazzles
him for two nights at the ball. Most importantly, he s not the hero of the fairytale, but readers can
interpret the fairy godmother as the savior of Cinderella s demise. The role of magic comes in part
with the acceptance of achieving the imagery of an elegant woman, impressing the Prince who
gains interest in her. The

Star-Crossed Lovers In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes/A pair of star cross d lovers take their life. (Prologue,
lines 5 6) This renowned quote is taken from Shakespeare s celebrated play Romeo and Juliet and
for years has introduced audiences to both the beginning and end of this unforgettable tale. It is
the story in which Shakespeare coined the phrase of star cross d lovers and among many of his
other groundbreaking words and phrases, this one has continued with our society today through
literature, music, and other aspects of culture. Star crossed lovers, it essentially explains itself, a
pair of lovers whose loveis doomed to end in only tragedy, as written in the stars. And as the play
moves on from these beginning lines Shakespeare s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still another example is in Act III when Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet s cousin who killed Romeo s
best friend Mercutio. Before entering his duel with Tybalt Romeo says This day s black fate on
more days doth depend;/ This but begins the woe others must end. In this quote, Romeo is
saying that this dark day is the beginning of many to come. After killing Tybalt in revenge,
Romeo realizes that he will have to face consequences for disturbing the peace again, possibly
death. Romeo then blames fate for this instead of his own actions saying O, I am fortune s fool!
insisting that fate has made a fool of him. This pattern of bad decisions made by emotional
teenagers who blame the consequences on a larger force themselves is repeated over and over
again throughout the play up until the very end. At this end, when analyzing the characters
decisions in the play and where and when they blame fate, it is obvious that the stars are not the
reason that so many ends up dead in this tragedy. Instead, it is when Romeo and Juliet decide to
throw themselves into life with the mindset that it is not their fault of what happens, but the fate
that controls them and it is too late to change that. It is when Romeo, Juliet, and the Friar decide to
keep a marriage of two lovers from

Radical Acceptance In The Bluest Eye
Marsha Linehan says, Radical acceptance is the only way out of hell it means letting go of
fighting reality. Acceptance is the way to turn suffering that cannot be tolerated into pain that can
be tolerated (Eifert 69). In the novel, The Bluest Eye , there are characters such as, Pecola, Cholly
Breedlove, and Junior whom all seem to experience a desire for acceptance from someone else
during their adolescence, but they do not receive it. As these characters go on in the story they
change significantly due to their lack of acceptance, and their change is what makes them struggle
throughout the novel as they get older. In Morrison s novel, The Bluest Eye, it shows the characters
Junior, Pecola, and Cholly Breedlove s desires of acceptance

Water Quality and Contamination Essay
Water Quality and Contamination
Water Quality and Contamination
Introduction
Abstract My lab report was based on how ground water could be affected by contaminants that
surround us everyday. Access to safe drinking water depends not only on the quality of water at
source but also on contamination throughout it s way to the user and practices related to
purification and sanitation ( Mishra, S., Nandeshwar, S. 2013).I was very surprised that the
detergent contaminated the water. I thought that the detergent would stay in the soil but it ended up
going through the soil into the water. Which then left the water bubbly and dark. These labs may

I poured the solution back and fourth 15 times. Once the mixture was created I poured 10ml of
the Contaminated water into a 100ml beaker. I then added 10 grams of alum to the 250ml beaker
that is contaminated. I mixed the solution for 1 2 minutes and then let it sit for 15mintues.While I
let it sit I washed out the 250ml beaker then I put a 4 layer cheesecloth in the funnel that was
placed in the 250ml beaker. Then I layered the funnel with 40ml of sand, 20ml of activated
charcoal and 40ml of gravel. Then I poured clean tap water through the filter until the funnel was
full. I poured the clean tap water through the filter 4 more times. After that was done, I poured Вѕ
of the contaminated water into the filter for 5 minutes. After 5minutes I then added a few drops
of bleach to the filtered water and slowly stirred the combination for 1 minute. The third
experiment I did was to see the quality of tap water, Dasani water and Fuji water. I first labeled
250ml beakers Tap, Dasani and Fuji. I then poured 100ml of each water type into there specific
beaker. The first strip test I did was the ammonia test. I placed the strip in each of the 3 beakers
for 30 seconds to see the test strip level. Then compared to the strip color to the colored charts
that were given. I repeated the same steps for chloride except for putting the test strip in for 1
second. Next, I did the 4 in 1 test repeating the same steps besides placing the test strip in the

In addition, the company s Performance with Purpose plan was focused on minimizing the
company s impact on the environment by lowering energy and water consumption and reducing its
use of packaging material, providing a safe and inclusive workplace for employees, and supporting
and investing in the local communities in which it operated. PepsiCo had been listed on the
Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for seven consecutive years and listed on the North America
Index for eight consecutive years as of 2013.
Even though the company had recorded a number of impressive achievements over the past
decade, its growth had slowed since 2011. In fact, the spikes in the company s revenue growth
since 2000 had resulted from major acquisitions such as the $13.6 billion acquisition of Quaker
Oats in 2001, the 2010 acquisition of the previously independent Pepsi Bottling Group and
PepsiCo Americas for $8.26 billion, and the acquisition of Russia s leading food and beverage
company, Wimm Bill Dann (WBD) Foods, for

The Minimum Wage
There have been multiple debates on whether or not the minimum wage should be raised.
Minimum wage can produce an impact on everyday life more than most may think. It is not just
about more money in a person s pocket; it can affect the economy in multiple ways. Many people
think it would be a good idea to raise the average minimum wage, but they do not understand or
take the time to think of the disadvantages. The minimum wageis the least amount a worker can be
paid at a job, by federal law. The present minimum wage is set at seven dollars and 25 cents. The
wage can be determined by votes of the public or the average living cost. Before the Fair Labor
Standards Act, corporations were free to choose any pay rate of their choice. This... Show more

Another disadvantage to a rise in pay includes the possibility that some people may lose their
government benefits due to their new annual income, such as food stamps or health insurance.
The loss of federal and state aids could produce a greater hardship on people and their families
than the preexisting minimum wage. For those who have already earned a higher pay due to
noticeably hard work or time spent working for a company, the raise of minimum wage would
cause the experienced workers to demand more. If the company is already struggling to pay the
difference of the raised minimum wage, there will be no option but to either refuse the request
of an experienced worker or fire employees. Even though workers have dreamed of a pay raise
for years, it has been concluded that the money will not be coming very soon. It is expected to
be a few years until an increased minimum wage could be developed (Mcgeehan). This does not
include all of America due to larger cities usually having higher wages. Some states have more of
a demand due to the different living conditions and different prices of products. Smaller towns
have been known to produce smaller prices for average products due to supply and demand. This
means the ratio of pay to living expenses averages out. The outcomes aren t all bad. There are also
some good

The Importance Of Cultural Imperialism
The Kiowa are a Native American people who have been greatly impacted by cultural imperialism.
They were forced to adapt to western culture, and in this many of the Kiowa people were converted
to Christianity. Christianity is said to be a very important aspect of many Native American cultures
still today, but the way in which Christianity is portrayed and practiced in such societies, including
that of the Kiowa, stays true to both the religion itself and their Native practices. The Kiowa are
said to have kiowanized Christianity. The Kiowa version of Christianity is said to differ from the
white man s way. This means that they believe in God, integrate their culture and lifestyles into
Christianity, and they also relay the importance of their religion in a different manner. They use
their native language in their hymns, and these hymns are comprised primarily of those elements
that pertain directly to Kiowa culture. In the text Lassiter states, Kiowa hymns give life to a unique
Kiowa experience, preserve the language, and affirm and ongoing (and continually unfolding)
Kiowa spirituality. This reveals the effectiveness and importance of the integration of Christianity
and native Kiowa practices. Language has been a central focus of anthropological interest for many
reasons. List three reasons and discuss why they are important. Think about language in broad or
general anthropological sense when addressing this question. What are the connections among play,

Personal Ambition And Self Respect By Mary Jane Ward s...
Personal Ambition and Self Respect in The Bell Jar Inspired by Mary Jane Ward s The Snake
Pit, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath was released in 1963 and discusses a great deal of how difficult
it was to be a woman in the 1960s. The 1960s was a struggling time for women; society set
standards that women felt obligated to follow. Society told women that their only jobs were to get
married, have children, and become homemakers, and if a womandid not fall under all of these
categories, she was considered a social outcast. The main character, Esther Greenwood, fears that
she will not make a good wife because she could not cook, she stood too tall, and danced poorly.
Women also had many restrictions on what they could do. For example, they could not serve on a
jury, get an Ivy League education, and they did not experience equality in the work place. Society
expected women to follow these standards perfectly, without fault. How were women to live by all
of these standards and still think of themselves as strong and independent? Alas, because society
focused so much on what women should do, that they did not appreciate some of the other things
that some women could do. Intelligence, determination, and understanding were not considered
impressive or useful to women in this time. The character Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath s The
Bell Jarreflects the struggle to maintain self respect and personal motivation in a society that
demands perfection. Sylvia Plath starts off The Bell Jar

A Report On The Automotive Industry Essay
1.INTRODUCTION
The automotive industry in India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world, previously
one of the fastest growing markets globally. It started out as a small venture in the 1940s but
witnessed a rapid growth with the entry of some big manufacturers like Mahindra Mahindra and
Maruti in mid and late 1900s. In 2000, this industry became an important sector of the Indian
economy and a major foreign exchange earner for the country.
The Shiv group was one of the largest industrial groups in India at this time established in the early
1900s. With the ownership of 20 companies and a turnover of US $1 billion, they were market
leaders in the sectors like tea, auto parts, electronics, finance, pharmaceuticals etc. In 2000, Shiv
industry was going through a rough phase experiencing a continuous loss. The key reasons were its
inability to cope up with the changing needs and competitive scenario due to internationalization of
this market. The challenges of quality based competition in high tech product market and price
based competition in low tech product market became a big concern for Shiv s management.
2. PROBLEM STATEMENT 1
Globalization of automotive industry
Although Shiv industries excelled in automobile industries, but the changing global trends in this
industry was a key concern for Shiv s management. Due to internationalization of this market, the

Polly Schoyer Brooks Queen Eleanor
In the book, Queen Eleanor by Polly Schoyer Brooks, it discusses the uncanny relationship between
King Henry and Thomas Becket. It starts when Henry appoints Becket to the role of archbishop.
Ultimately, it ends with Henry accidently giving an order to his knights to kill Becket for treason.
Nonetheless, Becket was correct in believing his faithfulness in the church came before the King,
because of how overwhelmingly prominent religionwas to the people s lives, Henry gave Becket
the role directly, and Henry didn t care that it would ruin their friendship because Henry was so
power hungry. To begin with, religion and the church was an extremely important factor in people s
lives in the middle ages. For example, the text states, ...he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To further support this argument, the author states, Becket warned the king that this would lead to
trouble and might end their friendship. which shows that Henry didn t care if he ruined their
close friendship as long as he got control over more. The text also states, Attempts to make up
always ended in failure, for each man now sought to ruin each other. which expresses how even
though Becket warned Henry of disagreements, they could never fix their issues and soon loathed
everything the other one did. This ended both of them seething and never being able to agree or
even work together, which led to them despising one another. On the other hand, one could also
make the argument that Becket should have given his loyalty to Henry first because Henry gave
him the job of archbishop. Others may think that Becket should have stayed loyal to the King
because they believe the church should always come second to the King. However, this is
problematic because although Henry gave him the position of archbishop, Becket had more
integrity and valued his responsibilities to the church more than his friendship with Henry. In
conclusion, although in some ways you could side with Henry, the smarter and better choice is to

Context Is All
The statement context is all states that all truth is dependent on context, where context refers to the
circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, through which the truth can be
understood and assessed. In the Theory of Knowledge for the IB Diploma textbook that was
utilized in our TOK class, Dr. Van de Laagment showed that one cannot purely rely on context to
receive truthsince it does not give the true meaning of what a person is saying. Therefore, context
is all in most cases, except when the context of the knowledge is wrong. The statement, context is
all is demonstrated by the area of knowledge of natural science. In my IB Physics Standard Level
classes, we learned concepts that were often... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Art seems to have a limited amount of context relative to other areas of knowledge and can
refute the statement Context is all . One can argue that there is no context in which to perceive a
piece of artwork since the perceiver may not know the artist s intentions. For example, Italian
renaissance artist: Leonardo de Vinci, had created a painting which he entitled Last Supper,
which would be perceived differently by someone who is of the Roman Catholic faith as
opposed to someone who is atheist and may not be aware of the Last Supper and its significance
to the religion of Catholicism. The intention of de Vinci was to have the perceiver view the
painting as the Last Supper, as the last time that Jesus would have a meal before he was betrayed
and eventually crucified. Alternatively, an atheist without prior knowledge or context of the Last
Supper, this person may be aware that it is Jesus and his apostles, however, he or she would not
understand the true significance of the piece of work and how the previous context of this work
connects with the interpretation. This idea, however, can be countered by saying that the viewer
although does not have the context from the artist has personal context to interpret a work. The
interpretation that the perceiver carries is the context that the interpreter would need to analyze the
painting. Therefore, viewing the painting in the atheist perspective, the significance of the
painting would be contrasted. In the area of knowledge of art, not only visual arts involve some
context in order to obtain knowledge, the musical arts requires context as well. For music, there
are many ways to interpret a musical piece dependent upon the mood and influences that the
perceiver or even the composer has. Listening to a piece that utilizes the music genre of surf would
be overlooked by a person unaware of the context of the music genre,

Forms Of Prejudice And Discrimination
People develop prejudice and basis throughout their lives based on a variety of reasons. Whether
these prejudices are intentional or unintentional, they are something that can persist for many years.
Prejudices and basis manifest thought cultural ideology, stereotypes, and emotions. Once a
prejudice is formed a cycle is created making is almost impossible to change the negative image.
Prejudice and basis are feeling that once acted upon evolve into discrimination. There is no country
in the World that has not experienced some form of discrimination, either as victims or as
perpetrators. Webster s Dictionary defines discrimination as, prejudiced or prejudicial outlook,
action, or treatment. The overall recurring theme in discrimination, is a dominant group seeking to
suppress a group they deem inferior. According to the text, forms of discrimination include; (1)
religious; (2) gender; (3) sexual orientation; (4) national origin, culture, or tribe; (5) racial...; (6)
class and caste; (7) political; and (8) personal characteristics such as disability, age, and appearance

egregious forms of discrimination have been slavery, genocide, and disenfranchisement. Although
events such as slavery and genocide have created an everlasting negative image, society has

segregation of his beloved country. Mandela s long journey and dedication for South Africawas
duplicated by Director Clint Eastwood s Oscar nominated film, Invictus. In novel Invictus by
John Carlin he makes Nelson s Mandela s accomplishment of ending the apartheid more strategic
and political unlike the film but kept to Mandela s character. Clint Eastwood showed Mandela as
powerful, yet approachable and humble leader who strategically used the popular universal
language of sports to unite post apartheid South Africa. Director Eastwood balanced the historical
significance of South Africa s struggles of the time and was yet able to make the film into a classic
hollywood sports drama.
When Nelson Mandela was elected as South Africa s president he did not take any breaks, his
mission and dedication showed in all his actions to remove hate and racial inequality from his
country. During Mandela s first few days of his term he noticed that the cabinet members of the
Apartheid were quickly leaving as the new cabinet members stepped in and he saw this as an
opportunity to remove racial segregation in the workplace. Mandela respectfully asked the
Afrikaner members to join his committee to try and give equality throughout post apartheid South
Africa. Many South African s were shocked by Mandela s forgiveness, even the black Africans of
his own cabinet, who have to work alongside the same Afrikaners who singlehandedly made the
Apartheid. Clint Eastwood included this event in the film because it spotlighted on Mandela s
efforts and his commitment to promote progress in South Africa.
The moment of Mandela s direct leader abilities was captured in the film and novel when he fights
the new Rugby Sport and Clint Eastwood added how separated black and white

Dealing with Learning Disabilities Essay
Dealing with Learning Disabilities
He ll know things one day, but not the next . She is seeing or writing words or numbers

who have classified certain students in their classroom as having the unfortunate burden of a
learning disability. A learning disability is a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological
processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, which may manifest
itself in an imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations
(Metzger, 1983, p7). Students with learning disorders may exhibit difficulty learning in a number of

Researching deeper into the definition, the more specific term adaptive technology means any
item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf,
modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of
individuals with a disability (Braswell, 2001,p1). Assistive technology has been making it
possible for children with disabilities to do more for themselves and become less dependent on
others. For example, a child who cannot use her hands can operate a computer with a switch and
an on screen keyboard. A child with speech problems can communicate using a portable electronic
device that speaks . These are just a few of the examples of the wide variety of adaptive equipment
that is available today.
Fortunately for the disabled students of the new millennium, adaptive technology has greatly
improved. Technological developments have been emerging since the early 1900 s, but looking
back on the past twenty years, adaptive technology has come a long way. In 1988, Retail point
of sale devices began to use picture based keyboards. This technology was originally developed
in the mid 1960 s to enable people to speak using a keyboard, computer, and speech synthesizer
(Jacob, 1999). Today, these picture based keyboards enable retail establishments to employ
individuals, who, for one reason or

The Penang Second Brigde in Malaysia
The Penang Second Bridge is one of the longest in Malaysia and also in the South East Asia
region. It is also known as the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge which is named after
the Sultan of Kedah. The bridge connects from Batu Kawan on the mainland to Batu Maung on the
Penang Island. It has an overall length of 24km and a length over water (displacement) of 16.9km.
It is much longer when compared to the Penang First Bridgewhich only has an overall length of
13.5km. The building of this bridge has cost the government for RM4.5billion.
The planning of building the second bridge to link the mainland to the island has been brought up
back in the year of 1995 by the 4th Prime Minister which is Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad and also
the 3rd Chief Minister of Penang, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon. Later, Malaysian government
unveiled the plan to construct the bridge in August 2006. The project is implemented in the 9th
Malaysian Plan. It is the largest civil construction work carried out in Malaysia in the past 2
decades.
The construction of the bridge officially started in November 2008 after all the planning and
procedure done. The bridge is currently projected completed on February 2014. The bridge is built
under the cooperation between China and Malaysia. The project itself was funded by China
through the Export Import Bank of China as Malaysia signed RM2.7bilion loan agreement in July
2007. Besides that, Malaysia also cooperated with the contractor from China that is China

Comprehensive Sex Education Research
In 2013, a total of 273,105 babies were born to women aged 15 19 years. (CDC). As these numbers
are shocking to many Americans, schools still have not taken the initiative to teach efficient sex
education. Although some teenagers are receiving sex education, most are not being taught it in a
successful way. Sex educationcan be explained in two different procedures: comprehensive or
abstinence only. The difference between the two is that comprehensive sex education teaches
abstinence as a secondary choice, and teens that decide not to wait should be informed on how to
use birth controlwhen participating in sexual activity. Comprehensive sex education is a method

The Importance Of Foreshadowing In The Monkey s Paw
The Monkey s Paw is a supernatural short story by author W. W. Jacobs first published in
England in 1902. In the story, three wishes granted to the owner of the monkey s paw, but the
wishes come with an enormous price for interfering with fate. I agree on how some occasions the
events are giving away as you can see in this sentence, how the friend gives Mr. White a magical
wishgranting monkeypaw, now we all know what happens next something always goes wrong on
granting wishes. It gives most of its story away before it happens such as his son saying something

In conclusion, Hark at the wind, said Mr. White, who, having seen a fatal mistake after it was too
late, was amiably desirous of preventing his son from seeing it.
This quote displays foreshadowing because during this event he makes a mistake and doesn t
realize it until after it s too late. Also I wish for two hundred pounds, said the old man distinctly.
A fine crash from the piano greeted the words, interrupted by a shuddering cry from the old man.
His wife and son ran toward him. It moved, he cried, with a glance of disgust at the object as it lay
on the floor. As I wished, it twisted in my hands like a snake. Well, I don t see the money, said his
son as he picked it up and placed it on the table, and I bet I never shall.
In this quote, when Mr. White wishes for two hundred pounds, Herbert says that he doesn t see the

Finding The Most Effective Insulator Out Of The Metal,...
II. Introduction
Problem: The purpose of this experiment is to find the most effective insulator out of the metal,
polymer, and cotton.
Background: By definition, an insulator is a substance that transfers heat poorly, meaning it traps
the heat of what it contains. (InnovateUs). A material is either an insulator or a conductor, which is
the opposite of an insulator: a material that transfers heat efficiently. What classifies these materials
into these two categories are their specific heats. Specific heat is the amount of heat per unit of
mass required to raise the temperature [of a substance] by one degree Celsius, (GSU). The higher
the specific heat, the more thermal energy must be used to change the temperature. Water, for...

If someone were to touch a metal desk, it would feel much colder than a fabric blanket. This is
because the desk is made of a conductor, so the heat from the person s hand is transferred very
quickly to the desk. The blanket does not conduct the heat as efficiently, which makes in an
insulator. Another example of this can be found simply in a disposable coffee cup. These cups
are made of Styrofoam, which is a polymer, an insulator. Coffee cups are not insulated with metal,
because metals are conductors. In an experiment conducted by Adam Jay, in which two
thicknesses of fiberglass, styrofoam, and no insulation were used to prevent water from
decreasing in temperature over time, 3.5 inch fiberglass was the most effective insulator, with a
loss of 18.9В°C over a span of 120 minutes. The Styrofoam lost 29.7В°C over the same time
period, but the water with no insulation lost 31.5В°C, proving that Styrofoam is a better insulator
than air, (Jay). In another experiment by Grant Bishko, cans were wrapped in a different insulator:
foil, bubble, air, cloth, and cotton. Of these materials, the cotton was the best insulator, with a loss
of only 8В°C over ten minutes. Air, or no insulator, was the worst insulator, losing a total of 12В°C
during those 10 minutes, (Bishko). So, it can be concluded that the cotton and the polymer will be
the best insulators during this experiment because of their high specific heats.

Conuncianitarianism And Confucianism
Confucianism does not explicitly encourage war given its emphasis on humanity. This combination
of moral vision and political realism combined with his advocacy of strong political authorities that
nevertheless rule justly in service of the common good. Xunzi s vision of the good society and how
it fits into a multi state world which undergirds his critique of alternate discourses about warand the
government. Xunzian s vision of politics and war as a source for contemporary Confucian
theory of civilian military relations. The early Confucian figure Xunzi (xunzi, during 310 c. 220
BCE) gives a sophisticated analysis of war, which he develops on the basis of a larger social and
political vision that he works out in considerable detail. This larger vision of human society is
thoroughly normative in the sense that Xunzi both argues for the value of his ideal conception of
society, and relates these moral arguments for the Confucian Dao or Way. Xunzi s led him to
argue about war in ways that look distinctive to Western ethicists, but still his preferred issues are
revealing themselves as suggestive in relation to current debates in military ethics. Judaism does
not regard violence and war to promote justice as always wrong. It accepts that certain kinds of
war will be ethically justified, and that it is sometimes morally acceptable to killpeople. Before
declaring war or starting a battle there must be a genuine attempt to make peace and avoid the
conflict. In much

Complex Adaptive Systems Of Healthcare Organizations Of...
Complex Adaptive Systems
Healthcare organizations of the past century were designed from 17th century ideology of the
universe based on the teachings of Sir Isaac Newton and Sir Francis Bacon. This was a
predictable and reliable world based on the viewpoint that organizations are machines and as
individuals, we are merely cogs in a wheel, fulfilling a role and playing our part. However, this
understanding has be eradicated by the idea that people and organizations are fluid, dynamic and
living organisms. Newton s clockwork universe, in which big problems can be broken down into
smaller ones, analyzed, and solved by rational deduction, has strongly influenced both the practice
of medicine and the leadership of organizations. But the machine metaphor lets us down badly
when no part of the equation is constant, independent, or predictable. The new science of complex
adaptive systems states that in order to cope with escalating complexity in health care we must
abandon linear models, accept unpredictability, respect (and utilize) autonomy and creativity, and
respond flexibly to emerging patterns and opportunities (Plsek Greenhalgh, 2001).

Discuss the Future of Human Geography with Reference to...
Discuss the future of human geography with reference to the approaches that have emerged since
the 1950s.
Geography found its roots during periods of exploration when man s knowledge of the world was
still subject to the imagination. For many decades, Europe and the British Empire in particular
formed much of what cartography is today, and environmental determinism was widely used to
serve imperialist needs. Many ideas and theories were highly influenced and composed by upper
class academics and soon critiques were formed. During the mid 1930s, environmental determinism
lost much of its support and regional geography fell into to favour. Soon however, regional
geography was also criticised due to its limiting scope and constricting ... Show more content on

Pattinson hoped that through a widened willingness to conceive of and discuss the field in terms of
these traditions, geography will be better able to secure the inner unity and outer intelligibility (W.
Pattinson, 1964). This approach to geography aimed to quell the discourse that was prevalent
within geography and tried to pave a clearer way for geographies future. On the other hand, thinking
in such a law based manner, restricts dynamic thinking, which is where human geography draws its
strengths. I felt that Pattinson still asked more how than why but he certainly helped promote the
growth of geography.
Subsequently, The Big Questions was an article written to try and stimulate thoughts of for the
future as well as trying to gain the attention of the media and the public eye. Susan L. Cutter,
Reginald Golledge and William L. Graff wanted to create a dialogue for the future whilst
tackling questions that already plagued the discipline of geography. As for the future of
geography, this article ask some thought provoking questions such as when does geography start
and finish? (S.L. Cutter, R.Golledge, W.L.Graff, 2002) and what are likely to be the major
problems of doing the geography of other planets? (S.L. Cutter, R.Golledge, W.L.Graff, 2002) If
we are to answer or even begin to answer these questions, we must draw upon the past and in
particular what has transgressed over the 60 years.

These lines read, Thy beauty shall no more be found; nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound my
echoing song; then worms shall try that long preserved virginity, and your quaint honour turn to
dust, and into ashes all my lust . The speaker is attempting to appeal to his mistress emotions by
using words that are much more physical than the ones he was previously using. He is also
attempting to persuade his mistress to have sex with him by pointing out that her beauty will
not last forever and that once she is dead she will not be able to hear how much he loves her.
Next, he says that her virginity will go to waste and worms will try to take it if she does not give
it to him. In this section, the word quaint is used. This word is derived from the word cunt . So
the phrase, and your quaint honour turn to dust is the speaker s way of saying that her vagina
will go to waste if she does not use it. He then says that he will have wasted all of his time
pursuing her and that he will not have any sex drive if she does not give herself to him. The next
couplet, lines 31 32, sums up the speaker s argument by stating that the grave may be a private
place, but he does not think that there will be any romance or intimacy there. This couplet has a
somewhat humorous tone to it. He concludes his argument in a slightly more playful tone. The
third and final stanza of Marvell s poem begins with a simile. Lines 33 34 read, Now therefore,
while the youthful hue sits on thy skin like morning dew . This simile helps lighten up the mood
of the poem. He then uses a metaphor in lines 35 36. These lines state, And while thy willing soul

The French Food Waste Bill Essay
Trevino and Nelson define an ethical dilemma as a situation where two or more right values are
in conflict (p. 39). When differing opinions from two separate parties meet often solutions can
only benefit one group, where both cannot be satisfied. A relevant business story with an ethical
dilemma is the french food waste bill, that has come into law earlier this year. This is an
illustration of how one ethical value has overcome another in order for government to deal with
the national food waste. In this report we will be analysing the decisions and actions of the main
actors Arash Derambarsh and Guillaume Garot and how their ethical view s affected the
government s actions on edible food waste. In the early 2000 s, Derambarsh began his law
degree and found it increasingly difficult to feed himself and it was very common for students
who had only four hundred euros a month after rent to find themselves hungry. 2010, Derambarsh
started to grow awareness towards hunger in France, so he started campaigning against the
wastage of food in his local area (Froelich, 2015). He now represents the Paris Commune of
Courbevoie and believes that edible food being wasted is, scandalous and absurd , when there are
still hungry citizens in France needing this such as the homeless, poor and unemployed (Froelich,
2015). Derambarsh often was insulted and abused for having an idealistic mindset over this ethical
dilemma. Although his main focus was helping the people, because

The Cretaceous Er The Last And Longest Segment Of The...
According to a live science, an article written by Mary Bagley, The Cretaceous Period was the last
and longest segment of the Mesozoic Era. It lasted approximately 79 million years, from the minor
extinction event that closed the Jurassic Period about 145.5 million years ago to the Cretaceous
Paleogene extinction event dated at 65.5 million years ago (Mary Bagley, LS). In the cretaceous
period, the continent of Pangea was still breaking away from itself, forming what we now know
as the seven world continents. In the many eras of dinosaurs, the cretaceous era was responsible
for evolving some, but not all the dinosaurs from full land dinosaurs to some who were able to live
both on land and in water, semi aquatic carnivorous dinosaurs. This era had produced some of the
dinosaurs that maybe us non paleontologist are more familiar with like the all mighty tyrannosaurus
rex or the long neck. Well let me tell you, there were a lot more dinosaurs than just those two.
Although the tyrannosaurs rex was an enormous dinosaur, a bigger dinosaur was discovered in
1912, the Spinosaurus. This discovery would change peoples, kids, and paleontologists view on
which dinosaur was bigger than the other. This semi aquatic dinosaur, Spinosaurus, was much
larger than the T rex due to its sail like backbones that stuck out of its back. Furthermore,
spinosaurus had a huge advantage that the tyrannosaurus rex did not.

Revolution, and later the first president of the United States. He symbolized qualities of discipline,
aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy, and persistence in adversity that his contemporaries

Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the eldest son of
Augustine Washington, a Virginia planter, and Mary Ball Washington. Although Washington had
little or no formal schooling, his early notebooks indicate that he read in geography, military history,

who behaved gallantly during the conflict, narrowly escaped death. In August 1755 he was

the Virginia frontier relatively safe.

conscientiously but without special distinction for 17 years. He also gained political and
administrative experience as justice of the peace for Fairfax County.

Life of San Pedro Calungsod
Blessed Pedro Calungsod (c. 1654 April 2, 1672) was a young Roman Catholic Filipino sacristan
and missionary catechist, who along with Spanish Jesuit missionary Blessed Diego Luis de San
Vitores, suffered religious persecution and martyrdom on Guam for their missionary work in
1672. Calungsod was beatified on March 5, 2000 by Blessed Pope John Paul II. On February 18,
2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially announced at Saint Peter s Basilica that Calungsod will be
canonised on October 21, 2012.
Pedro was just one of the boy catechists who went with San Vitores from the Philippines to the
Ladrones Islands in the western North Pacific Ocean in 1668 to evangelize the ... Show more

The victim of all this invasion is the traditional Faith, the traditional moral standards, the cultural
ways of life and behavior which 400 years of Christianity have tried to make part of the Filipinos
way of life.
Against the attacks on Christian life, against the prevailing lack of commitment to anything
beyond material gain in contemporary culture, against the confusion and relativism of post
modernism, the unrestrained struggle for wealth and pleasure of the global culture preached by
the media, we can place before the eyes of the young a role model of commitment to Christ and
to his Gospel. We can invoke the intercession of a 17 year old native Filipino to pray for, inspire
and lead young people to a new understanding and love for Christ and his way, to a willingness to
give witness to what the Gospel teaches, to a readiness by a young person to give his life for
Christ and his Church.
More: in an age when, as Pope John Paul II has said, youth in the Philippines must be willing to
bravely proclaim their Christian Faith, both at home and even in other lands, what more splendid
thing can be done than to give a concrete young person, catechist and missionary who is alive in
the Crucified and Risen Christ today, for our young people to know, to pray to, to imitate?

The Murder Of James Bulger
An Essay On The Murder of James Bulger James Patrick Bulger was born on the 16th of March,
1990, to Ralph and Denise Bulger in Kirkby, Merseyside. When he was only two years old,
James was lured through the village of Walton, led up to the railway track and murdered by Jon
Venables and Robert Thompson, both ten years old. His body found a week later. Now, almost
20 years later, after the divorce of James parents and the release of the boys, the James Bulger
case is still as tragic and atrocious as it was when it happened. Venables and Thompson had
disruptive childhoods, as neither had responsible parent figures. Thompson grew up surrounded by
neglect and domestic abuse in a household of which his mother s alcoholic tendencies and... Show

Venables and Thompson were seen earlier that day shoplifting from several stores as they
observed families with small children. When the boys approached James, they seized him by
the hand and marched him out of the shopping centre in a hurry. This moment was caught via
CCTV cameras set around the location at approximately 3:42 pm. Jon and Robert lead James on
a nearing three mile walk through Liverpool, first, to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The
confused toddler sustained a concussion as the boys joked and jeered over pushing him into the
canal. During this period of time, Venables, Thompson, and Bulger, who was in a distressed
state, crying as he was dragged through the streets were witnessed by nearly 40 people; all who
assumed he was a relative or a lost boy they were taking to the police station. Additionally, they
ended up in Walton, but considering they were stood opposite the Walton Police station, they
panicked and pulled Bulger up a steep bank, leading out onto a nearby railway. This railway was
the exact location of which they began torturing him. The poor, defenseless toddler, petrified as
he screamed in agony and yelled for his mother was battered with bricks and batteries. Moreover,
he d also had paint thrown at him, and was beaten to a pulp with an iron bar. Overall, the little boy
was subjected to so much pain and physical harm that he d sustained 42 injuries. Venables

The Importance Of The Indian Mutiny
The purpose of this lecture was to discuss the importance of the Indian Mutiny which began on
May 10th, 1857. However, before the rebellion began, the British had colonized India, where they
would use citizens as soldiers, and tap into their revenue. In addition, the British changed the ruling
system, where current rulers were disinherited. Then in Meerut India, the rebellion against the
British began. This began when the Meerut troops refused to set down their muskets at an army
base. The troops then proceeded to shoot at their commanding officers, where they were forced to
flee to Delhi. This act represented racial intolerance, white versus non white, and was viewed as a
race war. Furthermore, civilians joined the up rising, and joined the... Show more content on

However, this article elaborates more those ideas than the lecture. The article takes us through the
events that occurred thorough the Indian Mutiny, while using pictures to emphasize, and make
their points clearer. Additionally, the article describes how the British viewed the mutineers, as
murdering shoe keepers . However, the article also goes into detail how the British were not the
only ones massacred. As stated in the article, the casualties among the Indian Christian were far
more numerous. Furthermore, the article also suggests that the paper in the Indian National
archive were not explored properly. If explored properly it would add new insight into the Indian
Mutiny. Equally important, the article Nana Sahib at Cawnpore: 1857 by Christopher Hibbert,
describes the attack on Cawnpore in 1857. The article describes the attack on the British where
most men were killed, and the women and children were taken as hostages. Then Nana Sahib
ordered them to be killed, and thrown in a well. This is when the British acted in vengeance,
stuffing pork and beef down the Nana Sahib s Collector Sprisoner, as well as threatening to kill
Nana Sahib, and his

Primary Angioplasty For Acute Myocardial Afarction
Primary angioplasty for Acute Myocardial infarction
The treatment of myocardial infarction has evolved considerably over the past decades. Reported
mortality rates have fallen as a result of early diagnosis and treatment along with improved
management of its complications. Primary importance has been given to restore antegrade coronary
blood flow in the offending artery of the patient with evolving acute myocardial infarction. The two
methods to achieve this goal are thrombolytic treatment and immediate coronary angiography
followed by primary angioplasty.

performance and results of primary angioplasty both in the acute phase and during follow up. The

Figurative Language In A Devil In The White City
Have you ever known a psychopath who finds pleasure of going around and murdering thousands
of people? In Erik Larson s nonfiction novel, A Devil in the White City, published in 2003, he sets
the scene around the World s Fair in Chicago. During this time, the city preoccupies themselves
with the new construction and excitement of the fair that it draws away attention from the rather
secretive, sly, serial killer, H.H. Holmes. Larson uses figurative language, imagery, and juxtaposition
throughout the entire novel to develop just how sinister natured Holmes truly is.
Throughout his novel, Erik Larson uses figurative language to reference the iniquitous, hidden
personality displayed in Holmes. For example, the office building where Holmes portrays his
work is similar to an empty space, where the gaslight [cannot] reach (Larson 166) it fully, which
evokes the feelings of loneliness and detachment in the reader s mind. Holmes is never bothered
with while working and he often does his work solemnly in the dark, so nobody is able to watch
him, allowing the reader to see just how closed off he truly is. He then continues to show the
reader Holmes more demented side by alluding to Jack the Ripper s killings relating to the strokes
of Van Gogh s paintings. The way Holmes [slashes people s] throat (Larson 70) illustrates how
Holmes sees murder as graceful, like each killing is a new piece of art. By comparing Holmes to
Jack the Ripper, it paints a vivid image in the reader s head

St. Cloud Superman Analysis
Paper One: St. Cloud Superman The argument that has arisen due to the St. Cloud Superman, John
Fillah, is quite unfortunate. Fillah was documented to have been wielding an offensive flag, but
with only the intent of instilling patriotism and pride (Farhat). This flag toting may be considered
hurtful, upsetting even, but that doesn t mean that his right to free speech should be taken away.
Free speech should protect the rights to someone displaying a flag, or any symbol that certain
races, religions, genders, or people in general may find offensive. I will present the First
Amendment, how Fillah s intent should play into this, and how ignoring him may be the best
course of action. Using a few points from a Derek Bok essay and a short quote from Susan Jacoby,
this paragraph will highlight the First Amendment. Bok, a Harvard University President for 20
years, handled a similar situation as the St. Cloud University President. The presentation of two
Confederate flags and then a swastika, aggravated some students who found the symbols... Show

statement, similar to what I ve done with my superman routine for the last 15 years, which is a

being attacked (Qtd. in Farhat). He also goes on to say he meant to instill pride in our country and
respect for our constitution, expressing that even though some perceived hatred, what he was doing
was the exact opposite (Farhat). So, through this interview, we see that his intent was not to harm

  • 2. Social Movement Analysis However, McLeod (2009) stated that there is very limited discourse when it comes to the media and the two party systems only hinders the discourse even more (p. 116). People become less aware of the happenings around them and may even have trouble identifying how they feel about issues and conflicts when they arise. They could have a point of view outside of the norm but say nothing about it because people and groups outside of the mainstream are treated as deviants (McLeod, 2009, p. 116). McLeod (2009) investigated transcripts of the CNN and Fox News coverage of the conflict over U.S. policy toward Iraq after the events of September 11, 2001 that lead to the war which began on March 20, 2003 (p. 117). Many democratic theorists subscribe to the view that not only should citizens form opinions, but the government has a responsibility to respond to those opinions (Roth, 2004, p. 9). The government has the tendency to respond to these opinions, whether the response be in favor of the public opinion or not. Ankle Injury Ankle injuries are on the most common injuries that most athletes have to deal with throughout their playing career, some research has shown that an ankle sprain is seven times more like to occur than other injuries. With this being said a lot of coaches require their athletes to either tape or have a brace on the ankle to prevent the injury from occurring in the first place, however evidence has shown that the use of an ankle brace does not always prevent the injury from happening. So the question becomes does the brace impair the athlete to perform at their highest level. In this study they took ten healthy D 3 male athletes, and ten female athletes. • 4. Foreign Language And Its Effects On American Society The foreign language deficit in America serves to be inimical to the future of American society. America s foreign language curriculum displays a more than lackluster approach in relation to those upheld in other countries. Unlike our European counterparts, most American school systems only require that students acquire two foreign languagecredits to graduate. Most of the time, these courses are either taught by some athletic coach who could really care less if you know how to conjugate the verb ir correctly, or by an overly passionate foreigner who spends the class time intensively explaining said conjugations to a class full of seniors who just want to graduate. In some states, this requirement is even nonexistent. As someone who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the tacticians throughout Europe and Asia have procured a mastery of several different languages, English to be included. In accordance with American history, only half of our presidents (21 to be precise) had a command on a foreign language, sometimes demonstrating a fluency in both reading and writing in multiple foreign languages. The majority of these men held office between the 18th and 19th centuries, when language retained greater value in society. The presidents of the 20th and 21st century do not have the same qualities. To prosper economically and to improve relations with other countries, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan declared, Americans need to read, speak and understand other languages. ...18% of Americans report speaking a language other than English, while 53% of Europeans (and increasing numbers in other parts of the world) can converse in a second language. Multiple studies exist that display the lack of effort exhibited in America in terms of language learning. According to the Forbes article, the amount of private elementary schools that offer foreign language courses dropped from 31 to 25 percent, while instruction in public elementary schools dropped from 24 percent to 15 percent. Even the percentage of middle schools with foreign language programs decreased from 75 to 58 percent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Charles Perrault’s Cinderella In Cinderella by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of a mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty. Cinderellais a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing unsuitable personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she admits that her tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by her stepsisters. Portrayed with low self esteem and insecurity, she does not respond harshly to their cruel insults. As a result, the main character relies on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, her true beauty lies within her skin, as Perrault s interprets Cinderella as a hundred times more handsome than her sisters . He aims to focus more on female recognition and self fulfillment, rather than provide a base for all readers to understand fully (HuМ€hn). At an elementary level, this may not influence children to an extent, but other stories that reproduce this same structure of plot elements could possibly influence children in the future. For instance, she was not the hero of the story. The Prince isn t the hero until he discovers her lost possession, a glass slipper, and searched for the person that fits. As told by Perrault, he had done nothing but look at her all the time, and that most certainly he was very much in love with the beautiful owner of the glass slipper. This enforces the fact that her beauty prevails over her actual personality but not behavior, and the appearance and mannerisms surely impressed the Prince. The Prince stereotypes the role of women being in need of a destined lover. He is the one that identifies Cinderella as the one in the dress, though excluding behavior, her appearance dazzles him for two nights at the ball. Most importantly, he s not the hero of the fairytale, but readers can interpret the fairy godmother as the savior of Cinderella s demise. The role of magic comes in part with the acceptance of achieving the imagery of an elegant woman, impressing the Prince who gains interest in her. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Prologue, lines 5 6) This renowned quote is taken from Shakespeare s celebrated play Romeo and Juliet and for years has introduced audiences to both the beginning and end of this unforgettable tale. It is the story in which Shakespeare coined the phrase of star cross d lovers and among many of his other groundbreaking words and phrases, this one has continued with our society today through literature, music, and other aspects of culture. Star crossed lovers, it essentially explains itself, a pair of lovers whose loveis doomed to end in only tragedy, as written in the stars. Still another example is in Act III when Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet s cousin who killed Romeo s best friend Mercutio. Before entering his duel with Tybalt Romeo says This day s black fate on more days doth depend;/ This but begins the woe others must end. In this quote, Romeo is saying that this dark day is the beginning of many to come. After killing Tybalt in revenge, Romeo realizes that he will have to face consequences for disturbing the peace again, possibly death. Romeo then blames fate for this instead of his own actions saying O, I am fortune s fool! insisting that fate has made a fool of him. This pattern of bad decisions made by emotional teenagers who blame the consequences on a larger force themselves is repeated over and over again throughout the play up until the very end. At this end, when analyzing the characters decisions in the play and where and when they blame fate, it is obvious that the stars are not the reason that so many ends up dead in this tragedy. Instead, it is when Romeo and Juliet decide to throw themselves into life with the mindset that it is not their fault of what happens, but the fate that controls them and it is too late to change that. Water Quality and Contamination Essay Water Quality and Contamination Water Quality and Contamination Introduction Abstract My lab report was based on how ground water could be affected by contaminants that surround us everyday. • 10. The Minimum Wage There have been multiple debates on whether or not the minimum wage should be raised. Minimum wage can produce an impact on everyday life more than most may think. It is not just about more money in a person s pocket; it can affect the economy in multiple ways. Many people think it would be a good idea to raise the average minimum wage, but they do not understand or take the time to think of the disadvantages. The minimum wageis the least amount a worker can be paid at a job, by federal law. The present minimum wage is set at seven dollars and 25 cents. The wage can be determined by votes of the public or the average living cost. Before the Fair Labor Standards Act, corporations were free to choose any pay rate of their choice. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another disadvantage to a rise in pay includes the possibility that some people may lose their government benefits due to their new annual income, such as food stamps or health insurance. The loss of federal and state aids could produce a greater hardship on people and their families than the preexisting minimum wage. For those who have already earned a higher pay due to noticeably hard work or time spent working for a company, the raise of minimum wage would cause the experienced workers to demand more. If the company is already struggling to pay the difference of the raised minimum wage, there will be no option but to either refuse the request of an experienced worker or fire employees. Even though workers have dreamed of a pay raise for years, it has been concluded that the money will not be coming very soon. It is expected to be a few years until an increased minimum wage could be developed (Mcgeehan). This does not include all of America due to larger cities usually having higher wages. Some states have more of a demand due to the different living conditions and different prices of products. Smaller towns have been known to produce smaller prices for average products due to supply and demand. This means the ratio of pay to living expenses averages out. The outcomes aren t all bad. • 11. The Importance Of Cultural Imperialism The Kiowa are a Native American people who have been greatly impacted by cultural imperialism. They were forced to adapt to western culture, and in this many of the Kiowa people were converted to Christianity. Christianity is said to be a very important aspect of many Native American cultures still today, but the way in which Christianity is portrayed and practiced in such societies, including that of the Kiowa, stays true to both the religion itself and their Native practices. The Kiowa are said to have kiowanized Christianity. The Kiowa version of Christianity is said to differ from the white man s way. This means that they believe in God, integrate their culture and lifestyles into Christianity, and they also relay the importance of their religion in a different manner. They use their native language in their hymns, and these hymns are comprised primarily of those elements that pertain directly to Kiowa culture. In the text Lassiter states, Kiowa hymns give life to a unique Kiowa experience, preserve the language, and affirm and ongoing (and continually unfolding) Kiowa spirituality. This reveals the effectiveness and importance of the integration of Christianity and native Kiowa practices. Language has been a central focus of anthropological interest for many reasons. • 13. Personal Ambition And Self Respect By Mary Jane Ward s... Personal Ambition and Self Respect in The Bell Jar Inspired by Mary Jane Ward s The Snake Pit, The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath was released in 1963 and discusses a great deal of how difficult it was to be a woman in the 1960s. The 1960s was a struggling time for women; society set standards that women felt obligated to follow. Society told women that their only jobs were to get married, have children, and become homemakers, and if a womandid not fall under all of these categories, she was considered a social outcast. The main character, Esther Greenwood, fears that she will not make a good wife because she could not cook, she stood too tall, and danced poorly. Women also had many restrictions on what they could do. For example, they could not serve on a jury, get an Ivy League education, and they did not experience equality in the work place. Society expected women to follow these standards perfectly, without fault. How were women to live by all of these standards and still think of themselves as strong and independent? Alas, because society focused so much on what women should do, that they did not appreciate some of the other things that some women could do. Intelligence, determination, and understanding were not considered impressive or useful to women in this time. The character Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jarreflects the struggle to maintain self respect and personal motivation in a society that demands perfection. A Report On The Automotive Industry Essay 1.INTRODUCTION The automotive industry in India is one of the largest automotive markets in the world, previously one of the fastest growing markets globally. It started out as a small venture in the 1940s but witnessed a rapid growth with the entry of some big manufacturers like Mahindra Mahindra and Maruti in mid and late 1900s. In 2000, this industry became an important sector of the Indian economy and a major foreign exchange earner for the country. The Shiv group was one of the largest industrial groups in India at this time established in the early 1900s. With the ownership of 20 companies and a turnover of US $1 billion, they were market leaders in the sectors like tea, auto parts, electronics, finance, pharmaceuticals etc. In 2000, Shiv industry was going through a rough phase experiencing a continuous loss. The key reasons were its inability to cope up with the changing needs and competitive scenario due to internationalization of this market. The challenges of quality based competition in high tech product market and price based competition in low tech product market became a big concern for Shiv s management. 2. It starts when Henry appoints Becket to the role of archbishop. Ultimately, it ends with Henry accidently giving an order to his knights to kill Becket for treason. Nonetheless, Becket was correct in believing his faithfulness in the church came before the King, because of how overwhelmingly prominent religionwas to the people s lives, Henry gave Becket the role directly, and Henry didn t care that it would ruin their friendship because Henry was so power hungry. To begin with, religion and the church was an extremely important factor in people s lives in the middle ages. For example, the text states, ...he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ended both of them seething and never being able to agree or even work together, which led to them despising one another. On the other hand, one could also make the argument that Becket should have given his loyalty to Henry first because Henry gave him the job of archbishop. Others may think that Becket should have stayed loyal to the King because they believe the church should always come second to the King. However, this is problematic because although Henry gave him the position of archbishop, Becket had more integrity and valued his responsibilities to the church more than his friendship with Henry. Context Is All The statement context is all states that all truth is dependent on context, where context refers to the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, through which the truth can be understood and assessed. In the Theory of Knowledge for the IB Diploma textbook that was utilized in our TOK class, Dr. Van de Laagment showed that one cannot purely rely on context to receive truthsince it does not give the true meaning of what a person is saying. Therefore, context is all in most cases, except when the context of the knowledge is wrong. The statement, context is all is demonstrated by the area of knowledge of natural science. Art seems to have a limited amount of context relative to other areas of knowledge and can refute the statement Context is all . One can argue that there is no context in which to perceive a piece of artwork since the perceiver may not know the artist s intentions. For example, Italian renaissance artist: Leonardo de Vinci, had created a painting which he entitled Last Supper, which would be perceived differently by someone who is of the Roman Catholic faith as opposed to someone who is atheist and may not be aware of the Last Supper and its significance to the religion of Catholicism. The intention of de Vinci was to have the perceiver view the painting as the Last Supper, as the last time that Jesus would have a meal before he was betrayed and eventually crucified. Alternatively, an atheist without prior knowledge or context of the Last Supper, this person may be aware that it is Jesus and his apostles, however, he or she would not understand the true significance of the piece of work and how the previous context of this work connects with the interpretation. This idea, however, can be countered by saying that the viewer although does not have the context from the artist has personal context to interpret a work. The interpretation that the perceiver carries is the context that the interpreter would need to analyze the painting. Therefore, viewing the painting in the atheist perspective, the significance of the painting would be contrasted. In the area of knowledge of art, not only visual arts involve some context in order to obtain knowledge, the musical arts requires context as well. For music, there are many ways to interpret a musical piece dependent upon the mood and influences that the perceiver or even the composer has. Listening to a piece that utilizes the music genre of surf would be overlooked by a person unaware of the context of the music genre, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once a prejudice is formed a cycle is created making is almost impossible to change the negative image. Prejudice and basis are feeling that once acted upon evolve into discrimination. There is no country in the World that has not experienced some form of discrimination, either as victims or as perpetrators. Webster s Dictionary defines discrimination as, prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment. The overall recurring theme in discrimination, is a dominant group seeking to suppress a group they deem inferior. Historical Reflection Of The Film Invictus Elizabeth Garcia Perales Professor Williams English 101 10/24/17 Invictus The two segregated fences that separated South Africa were broken down by former South African President Nelson Mandela, who used South Africa s Springboks rugby team as a tool to unite the economically and racially divided country that was suffering by the Apartheid that lasted about 50 years. Yet Nelson Mandela made it his goal to conquer the white supremacy and racial segregation of his beloved country. Clint Eastwood showed Mandela as powerful, yet approachable and humble leader who strategically used the popular universal language of sports to unite post apartheid South Africa. Director Eastwood balanced the historical significance of South Africa s struggles of the time and was yet able to make the film into a classic hollywood sports drama. When Nelson Mandela was elected as South Africa s president he did not take any breaks, his mission and dedication showed in all his actions to remove hate and racial inequality from his country. During Mandela s first few days of his term he noticed that the cabinet members of the Apartheid were quickly leaving as the new cabinet members stepped in and he saw this as an opportunity to remove racial segregation in the workplace. Mandela respectfully asked the Afrikaner members to join his committee to try and give equality throughout post apartheid South Africa. Many South African s were shocked by Mandela s forgiveness, even the black Africans of his own cabinet, who have to work alongside the same Afrikaners who singlehandedly made the Apartheid. Clint Eastwood included this event in the film because it spotlighted on Mandela s efforts and his commitment to promote progress in South Africa. • 26. Finding The Most Effective Insulator Out Of The Metal,... II. Introduction Problem: The purpose of this experiment is to find the most effective insulator out of the metal, polymer, and cotton. Background: By definition, an insulator is a substance that transfers heat poorly, meaning it traps the heat of what it contains. (InnovateUs). A material is either an insulator or a conductor, which is the opposite of an insulator: a material that transfers heat efficiently. What classifies these materials into these two categories are their specific heats. Specific heat is the amount of heat per unit of mass required to raise the temperature [of a substance] by one degree Celsius, (GSU). The higher the specific heat, the more thermal energy must be used to change the temperature. Water, for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If someone were to touch a metal desk, it would feel much colder than a fabric blanket. This is because the desk is made of a conductor, so the heat from the person s hand is transferred very quickly to the desk. The blanket does not conduct the heat as efficiently, which makes in an insulator. Another example of this can be found simply in a disposable coffee cup. These cups are made of Styrofoam, which is a polymer, an insulator. Coffee cups are not insulated with metal, because metals are conductors. In an experiment conducted by Adam Jay, in which two thicknesses of fiberglass, styrofoam, and no insulation were used to prevent water from decreasing in temperature over time, 3.5 inch fiberglass was the most effective insulator, with a loss of 18.9В°C over a span of 120 minutes. The Styrofoam lost 29.7В°C over the same time period, but the water with no insulation lost 31.5В°C, proving that Styrofoam is a better insulator than air, (Jay). In another experiment by Grant Bishko, cans were wrapped in a different insulator: foil, bubble, air, cloth, and cotton. Of these materials, the cotton was the best insulator, with a loss of only 8В°C over ten minutes. Air, or no insulator, was the worst insulator, losing a total of 12В°C during those 10 minutes, (Bishko). So, it can be concluded that the cotton and the polymer will be the best insulators during this experiment because of their high specific heats. VII. Conclusion At the ... Xunzian s vision of politics and war as a source for contemporary Confucian theory of civilian military relations. The early Confucian figure Xunzi (xunzi, during 310 c. 220 BCE) gives a sophisticated analysis of war, which he develops on the basis of a larger social and political vision that he works out in considerable detail. This larger vision of human society is thoroughly normative in the sense that Xunzi both argues for the value of his ideal conception of society, and relates these moral arguments for the Confucian Dao or Way. Xunzi s led him to argue about war in ways that look distinctive to Western ethicists, but still his preferred issues are revealing themselves as suggestive in relation to current debates in military ethics. Judaism does not regard violence and war to promote justice as always wrong. It accepts that certain kinds of war will be ethically justified, and that it is sometimes morally acceptable to killpeople. • 29. Complex Adaptive Systems Of Healthcare Organizations Of... Complex Adaptive Systems Healthcare organizations of the past century were designed from 17th century ideology of the universe based on the teachings of Sir Isaac Newton and Sir Francis Bacon. This was a predictable and reliable world based on the viewpoint that organizations are machines and as individuals, we are merely cogs in a wheel, fulfilling a role and playing our part. However, this understanding has be eradicated by the idea that people and organizations are fluid, dynamic and living organisms. Newton s clockwork universe, in which big problems can be broken down into smaller ones, analyzed, and solved by rational deduction, has strongly influenced both the practice of medicine and the leadership of organizations. But the machine metaphor lets us down badly when no part of the equation is constant, independent, or predictable. The new science of complex adaptive systems states that in order to cope with escalating complexity in health care we must abandon linear models, accept unpredictability, respect (and utilize) autonomy and creativity, and respond flexibly to emerging patterns and opportunities (Plsek Greenhalgh, 2001). Geography found its roots during periods of exploration when man s knowledge of the world was still subject to the imagination. Many ideas and theories were highly influenced and composed by upper class academics and soon critiques were formed. On the other hand, thinking in such a law based manner, restricts dynamic thinking, which is where human geography draws its strengths. He is also attempting to persuade his mistress to have sex with him by pointing out that her beauty will not last forever and that once she is dead she will not be able to hear how much he loves her. Next, he says that her virginity will go to waste and worms will try to take it if she does not give it to him. In this section, the word quaint is used. This word is derived from the word cunt . So the phrase, and your quaint honour turn to dust is the speaker s way of saying that her vagina will go to waste if she does not use it. Lines 33 34 read, Now therefore, while the youthful hue sits on thy skin like morning dew . This simile helps lighten up the mood of the poem. He then uses a metaphor in lines 35 36. When differing opinions from two separate parties meet often solutions can only benefit one group, where both cannot be satisfied. A relevant business story with an ethical dilemma is the french food waste bill, that has come into law earlier this year. This is an illustration of how one ethical value has overcome another in order for government to deal with the national food waste. In this report we will be analysing the decisions and actions of the main actors Arash Derambarsh and Guillaume Garot and how their ethical view s affected the government s actions on edible food waste. In the early 2000 s, Derambarsh began his law degree and found it increasingly difficult to feed himself and it was very common for students who had only four hundred euros a month after rent to find themselves hungry. 2010, Derambarsh started to grow awareness towards hunger in France, so he started campaigning against the wastage of food in his local area (Froelich, 2015). He now represents the Paris Commune of Courbevoie and believes that edible food being wasted is, scandalous and absurd , when there are still hungry citizens in France needing this such as the homeless, poor and unemployed (Froelich, 2015). Washington resigned his commission in 1754, but in May 1755 he began service as a volunteer aide de camp to the British general Edward Braddock, who had been sent to Virginia with a force of British regulars. A few kilometers from Fort Duquesne, Braddock s men were ambushed by a band of French soldiers and Native Americans. Braddock was mortally wounded, and Washington, who behaved gallantly during the conflict, narrowly escaped death. In August 1755 he was appointed (with the rank of colonel) to command the Virginia regiment, charged with the defense of the long western frontier of the colony. War between France and Britain was officially declared in May 1756, and while the principal struggle moved to other areas, Washington succeeded in keeping the Virginia frontier relatively safe. The American Revolution After the death of his elder half brother Lawrence, Washington inherited the plantation known as Mount Vernon. A spectacular rise in the price of tobacco during the 1730s and 40s, combined with his marriage in 1759 to Martha Custis, a young widow with a large estate, made him one of the wealthiest men in Virginia. Elected to the House of Burgesses in 1758, he served conscientiously but without special distinction for 17 years. He also gained political and administrative experience as justice of the peace for Fairfax County. The victim of all this invasion is the traditional Faith, the traditional moral standards, the cultural ways of life and behavior which 400 years of Christianity have tried to make part of the Filipinos way of life. Against the attacks on Christian life, against the prevailing lack of commitment to anything beyond material gain in contemporary culture, against the confusion and relativism of post modernism, the unrestrained struggle for wealth and pleasure of the global culture preached by the media, we can place before the eyes of the young a role model of commitment to Christ and to his Gospel. We can invoke the intercession of a 17 year old native Filipino to pray for, inspire and lead young people to a new understanding and love for Christ and his way, to a willingness to give witness to what the Gospel teaches, to a readiness by a young person to give his life for Christ and his Church. However, before the rebellion began, the British had colonized India, where they would use citizens as soldiers, and tap into their revenue. In addition, the British changed the ruling system, where current rulers were disinherited. Then in Meerut India, the rebellion against the British began. This began when the Meerut troops refused to set down their muskets at an army base. The troops then proceeded to shoot at their commanding officers, where they were forced to flee to Delhi. This act represented racial intolerance, white versus non white, and was viewed as a race war. Furthermore, civilians joined the up rising, and joined the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Figurative Language In A Devil In The White City Have you ever known a psychopath who finds pleasure of going around and murdering thousands of people? In Erik Larson s nonfiction novel, A Devil in the White City, published in 2003, he sets the scene around the World s Fair in Chicago. During this time, the city preoccupies themselves with the new construction and excitement of the fair that it draws away attention from the rather secretive, sly, serial killer, H.H. Holmes. Larson uses figurative language, imagery, and juxtaposition throughout the entire novel to develop just how sinister natured Holmes truly is. Throughout his novel, Erik Larson uses figurative language to reference the iniquitous, hidden personality displayed in Holmes. For example, the office building where Holmes portrays his work is similar to an empty space, where the gaslight [cannot] reach (Larson 166) it fully, which evokes the feelings of loneliness and detachment in the reader s mind. Holmes is never bothered with while working and he often does his work solemnly in the dark, so nobody is able to watch him, allowing the reader to see just how closed off he truly is. He then continues to show the reader Holmes more demented side by alluding to Jack the Ripper s killings relating to the strokes of Van Gogh s paintings. The way Holmes [slashes people s] throat (Larson 70) illustrates how Holmes sees murder as graceful, like each killing is a new piece of art. By comparing Holmes to Jack the Ripper, it paints a vivid image in the reader s head ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. St. Cloud Superman Analysis Paper One: St. Cloud Superman The argument that has arisen due to the St. Cloud Superman, John Fillah, is quite unfortunate. Fillah was documented to have been wielding an offensive flag, but with only the intent of instilling patriotism and pride (Farhat). This flag toting may be considered hurtful, upsetting even, but that doesn t mean that his right to free speech should be taken away. Free speech should protect the rights to someone displaying a flag, or any symbol that certain races, religions, genders, or people in general may find offensive. I will present the First Amendment, how Fillah s intent should play into this, and how ignoring him may be the best course of action. Using a few points from a Derek Bok essay and a short quote from Susan Jacoby, this paragraph will highlight the First Amendment. Bok, a Harvard University President for 20 years, handled a similar situation as the St. Cloud University President.
